I just need to ramble for a minute, but I think it's all little bit of a shame that so many constructiprowl fics (which is already not many 😭💔) really only seem to use the dynamic from the early stages of their relationship where Prowl was still pushing the constructicons away and resented them. And on the one hand, I understand the appeal bc an antagonistic relationship is fun to explore, and I LOVE fics where they start off that way and then develop a closer relationship out of it.... but, I also come across a lot of fics where he hates them way more and for much longer than he ever did in canon, or where that's the only dynamic they'll ever have. There's a sentiment, I think, that it would be impossible for him to ever warm up to them and continuing to hate them is the only realistic option?

And that's alright if it's your preference, like far be it from me to get in the way of people's toxic yaoi hdbsbds, but they DID move past that in canon and it feels like a shame that's not really acknowledged as much? Mostly bc I wish there was more stuff that explored the dynamic they had later on once he decided he wanted to be in control of Devastator and was keeping them around willingly..... idk just that specific period of time in their relationship was so funny and endearing to me djsbhs, I need more of him being their boss and bringing them everywhere with him to everyone else's dismay lmao

They still had some issues at that point, Prowl was power tripping like crazy and injuring himself by pushing an unstable gestalt bond too much/too fast, with the nosebleeds and the Scrapper moments, so they still had a long way to go. But what I'm getting at is mostly just that by then he was long past hating them or trying to make them go away, he seemed to consider them an extremely valuable asset and was actually trying to keep them around and make things work. In the end he was only forcibly separated from them against his will too, and he never actually wanted to leave them.

((There is a lot about Prowl's combiner wars storyline that I don't love, but I'm putting that all aside for now 😪))

I think he was essentially neutral on the constructicons as individuals/on a personal level... he was mostly just treating them like all the subordinates he'd had before. THEIR devotion and adoration of him was definitely very different to anything he'd experienced before though (and extremely gay lmao), I always feel sad that canon didn't give him the time to notice or react to that.

Just going off on a little side tangent but actually (as a shipper lmao 🤧) I like to think he could have become fond of them over time. Actually I think Prowl and the constructicons have a lot more in common than was ever really explored?? Especially if they had been allowed to have distinct personalities and demonstrate their intelligence a bit more lmao. I don't mind them being himbos (affectionate) or the way they spoke or anything, but I feel like they were just really underutilised in IDW1... like we never saw any fun chemistry stuff from Mixmaster or any of Hook's medical skills for example. Speaking of Hook in particular, I think it's interesting he usually has a bad temper and a very perfectionist, prickly and stubborn personality that makes him very Prowl-like in a way that would have been fun to play around with...

*** Coming back to add a point here about whether he blames them for the mind control and non-consentual modifications that were done to him, and honestly I don't think he does? I think he blames Megatron for that (which makes some sense since they were only doing it on his orders), I think it is a very large part of why he doesn't want to be near them at first bc they remind him of it and bc they took part in it, but it's definitely not something he continues to hold against them. It's similar I think to how he feels about Soundwave's involvement which he also seems willing to forgive after a while. Meanwhile his anger at Megatron never goes away, and at the trial he listed forced combination as one of the crimes Megatron was directly responsible for (which I think is interesting bc Starscream forces the constructicons to combine with Scoop later on against their will too, but never really faces any consequences for that? Anyway sjdbdhs)

I think it probably means something to him to be able to take control of the constructicons after they were involved in a trauma he went through where he had no control over himself, and to be secure in the certainty that they won't turn against him again... plus I think it says a lot about their relationship that Prowl (who already has trust issues anyway) is eventually able to trust them so fully? He even trusts them to stay loyal to him on a mission where they're working against other decepticons, which is a huge gesture really.

Anywayyy..... I guess this whole ramble was just to say I wish there was more happy/endgame constructiprowl content bc it could be so good and I'm yearning for it jsjsjds 😭😭

I have also seen a few people say this ship is inherently one-sided and depicting it any other way is ooc, and I disagree!! I think it CAN be one-sided, but it doesn't NEED to be in order to be true to canon.

So The Chosen is a series by dallas jenkins, an adaptation the four gospels as well and as faithfully as possible, if not to the text then to the spirit of the text with the expressed goal to make the gospel more accessible, enjoyable, and its just a service to the faith in hopes it would bring in more converts and strengthen the faith of christians who already believe, as jenkins is a christian himself.

Now i mentioned that if not faithful to the text, then to the spirit thereof. And that's the first root of issue with The Chosen imo. Bcs the spirit of the text to the show is just... the christian doctrine that they believe in. They add non-canon characters and plotlines, sure, but its still used to further themes and messages that go along the evangelical ideas.

So to begin, The Chosen starts with Jesus picking and converting each of his disciples one by one. It follows the beat of: disciple is at the lowest point of their life and had nowhere else to go, disciple meets Jesus by "happenstance", disciple becomes enamored as Jesus tells them the exact words that they needed to hear and it immediately convinces them to drop their life to follow Jesus. Now this, to me, smells like the evangelical daydream on how to convert someone. It also happens to smell like manipulation and cultish, and it only gets worse from here.

Im just gonna breeze through The Chosen here and get to the point where all the disciples have been gathered, theyve seen a miracle or two that they witness with widened tearful eyes as their hearts grew three sizes for jesus, but gradually they just start fighting each other? Like all the time? The Chosen is really going the All My Disciples Don't Understand My Teachings route and it gets frustrating, but for certain christian demographic im sure its exactly what they want.

To make matters Worse, Every Single Interaction between two characters in The Chosen, whoever it is, is about Jesus. Oh my god these people never talk about anything other than Jesus its like they dont have a life or thoughts outside of Jesus. And they don't, bcs Jesus has isolated them from all their families, all their belongings and lives before him, and now all they have is each other and they highkey hate it. Also bcs its a show for christians so of course all they talk about is Jesus. AND, they keep reciting scripture out of nowhere?? To show that theyre devout religious people i guess? Its not a fun time if you're not a christian.

As the show went on, the disciples just keeps bickering, and Jesus hardly does anything about it. He's stripped them of their lives and friends and belongings, asking them to follow him blindly wherever he goes and whatever he does and says, and i'll be frank their needs and feelings are being neglected. Of course they keep fighting one another and miserable, and yet its angled like it's the disciples' fault for not finding Jesus enough for them.

The last season, they killed off a character who's engaged to Thomas. They handled it so poorly it makes me sick. Instead of helping Thomas grieve, they all pile on him telling him his fiancee's death was part of god's plan. Except Jesus was perfectly able to bring her back, and he didn't bcs its not part of God's plan. And THEN they made Thomas watch as Jesus allowed Lazarus to die and then bring him back. Its the most blatant and gross christian propaganda i've ever seen.

I can cover more but this post is already so long as it is, like i haven't even touched on how everyone in this show speaks english with a hebrew accent like theyre trying to aim for vibes but it just feels weird culturally speaking. If all that isn't enough, they also are pro Israel.

as someone who never really interacted with the ouran fandom i have to know, do you guys just pretend the whole kyoya scene in the beach episode/chapter (both manga & anime) doesn't exist? cuz back when i read the manga i hated his character for the rest of the series bc i couldn't forget how creepy that scene was, and also couldn't figure out why everyone else was so crazy about him knowing he did that. some ppl act like it was an anime only issue when the scene was just as bad in the manga (or worse considering he laughs at her afterwards like it was funny), so bisco fully intended it to happen anyway. how do you guys go about this? sorry if this ask is kinda random, you're one of the few popular ouran blogs i know so i wanted to get mass opinion lol

I think of the beach episode as the chekov's gun that never fires because it is infinitely hilarious to me to think of Haruhi just casually bringing it up 4 years later, like it was a non-event, and causing WW3 among the hosts.

Anyway I don't actually understand myself why women find Kyoya hot because I'm a lesbian and he's not my type of soggy wet man anyway. I'll have to hand that question over to the floor of Kyoya Y/N girlies. People definitely do find the scene attractive, but I can't say it does anything for me.

As for taking issue with it, I guess my issue is more with the framing of the scene than the scene itself and that more comes down to the framing of the episode than that particular scene. I don't have an issue with Kyoya doing it, so much as the "moral of the story" itself that justifies it in this weirdly regressive way that seems out of tone from other episodes.

Buuuuut I think there are a lot of younger people experience this slightly "political" dude bro phenomenon so I kind of want to walk them through it. So Dawntrail the most recent ff14 expansion. Is actually pretty good. Now if you listen to some aspect of the community you are going to get some other........."perspectives" on that. Dawntrail is flawed, of course it is. This is the expansion that would have been in development during mid to post 2020 AND it's the expansion that needed to come around after Enwalker to build up the new story. Endwalker that spent YEARS building up to a climatic finish. What does this have to do with the first paragraph? Well, I'll tell you.

Dawntrail focuses on the story of a coming of age of a nontraditionally feminine woman lead Wuk Lamat (who is voiced by a trans voice actor) and we, the heroes of the world, are now going to help and take a back seat to this person. Who she and the entire expansion is based on Indigenous people from various parts of "America" so you know, they should be front a center and our out-of-town asses *should* take a seat in the back (some of you will read this and immediately go "oh that's why it's getting extra hate") If you do not know and was lucky enough to not be a woman or non cis het white male in the 90s trying to play video games or enjoy nerd culture....All of what I just stated is a big problem. Dude bros as I like to call them, (aka someone who you will always be curious if they were or would be part of Gamer Gate. Also please note a dude bro doesn't have to be a man...trust me on that) hate this kind of shit. They naturally feel threatened when the media's focus is not about them. So what do they do? let me preface this by saying, bear with me, because although i gave this a lot of thought, it lowkey reads like a random cluster thoughts lmao. anyway, i came to the conclusion that if i ever were to potentially expand on this concept more 👀👀👀 that in my head, the boys are split into two crime families, with chan and minho being the two bosses. think of their dorm arrangements (3racha/hyune + minho and the minhoettes; if those are still their arrangements ? lol). i would also say the two families are on fairly decent terms.

chan, or should I say, chris, is the stereotypical mob boss who chooses to shield his lover from the violence and drug side of his work—but has no issue showering them with the drug and violence money. if you haven't seen goodfellas, there's a scene where karen asks henry for money to go shopping before he leaves, and he gives her half of this thick stack of cash before she drops to her knees and well... yeah. not sure why, but it gives channie vibes, imo. like he hates to be pulled away from his work, but if his baby needs him for a few minutes, even an hour or two, it isn't a problem.

i'd say as a mob boss, he's one that lurks in the shadows—he likes to protect his peace, to an extent. he'll pop out and show his face every once in a while to remind others of his territory. he's always going to get his lick back, but he plays things strategically as he's not someone who makes brash decisions; it might not happen now, but it will happen. he also tries to give back to his community and those who raised him within his neighborhood, etc. he's all about strong family bonds and despite him being feared; despite all the blood and threats, the violence and damage; he craves to be loved.

changbin, strikes me as someone who is eternally faithful to the family. maybe..even to a fault (if this were a scorsese film, i feel he'd be one of the last to be murdered; and it probably happens off screen lol). but because he is loyal, he is most definitely chan's second in command, a real right hand man. if anything has happened to chan, then changbin knows that he must not hesitate, he must not mourn or act out—but to learn from chan and play things strategically. he must assume the role of the don. off topic, imo, he's someone that might show off his partner. bringing them to poker nights so all the others can drool over them. his lover is his prize and he'd go above and beyond for them. (has definitely been set up by a lover so he doesn't trust easily, but when he does, whew, he falls head first)

hyunjin is in it for the moneyyyy.. feel like he just wants to show off and get girls (and the mens...👀) and do drugs. he just wants to have fun, most importantly. life is like a video game to him; he's kinda just doing a bunch of side quests—but he knows everyone and everything, a real socialite. kinda perceive him as a friend of the mob who has serious drug connects. since he's everywhere all the time, just being in others business feeling like the cops would be trying for yearsss to pin him on murder or intent to distribute charges but they've only got him for possession once.

now jisung confuses me just a bit. originally i wrote this paragraph about how jisung and felix remind me of lenny from shark tale (another scorsese classic, sorta). they don't seem to be cut out for the life of crime and would rather just leave and be their true selves. but them mfs r not sharks!! leaving can be potentially dangerous and often has consequences (and those two would like to keep their fingers and well, their lives).

that being said, i had been internally debating on whether or not jisung would be perceived as someone who could potentially squeal if pressured heavily—which definitely would affect his rank/status.... but I think he's dedicated to prove himself in the life he was given. likely starts of simple; he's selling drugs n stuff. then, he's even handled a couple hits—so now he's looked at with respect when around everyone. and if he's honest, to be accepted and respected means a lot to him. he almost wears his murder count with such pride. has been told time and time again, not to act irrationally.

minho, is ruthless, and would like for his other half to be equally as ruthless. for that reason, he doesn't care to shield any of his work from you, and often asks for your opinion on things. if you're in the club and somebody hits on you or tries to start shit he wants you to be able to handle yourself; thus he recognizes you are your own person and not his property. i feel like minho would want to damn near fear his lover. yet I also view him as someone who is nowhere near ready for a relationship (doesn't have the time, he says) but is always at the right longitude and latitude to fuck yk?

because min is a scorpio I am also inclined to say that he is also a boss that lurks in the shadows—pulling strings behind the scenes. he's not a show off and he's not much of a talker either so but you better believe his actions speaks volumes. he fears no one and will more than definitely make sure he makes an example out of those who fuck up. low-key god complex; everything works out in his favor, especially if he's the last one standing.

nobody knows felix is apart of a crime family and he likes to keep it that way. he flies under the radar and because of it, he's made things that seem impossible happen. he gives a very trustworthy vibe, people feel comfortable around him—he deceiving them. but it's gotten him certain connections, through certain doors, and he's learned heavy secrets (blackmail champion). his kill count is unknown. no like he flies so far under the radar, not much is known about him. still, he says a lot about himself without saying too much.

thinking that seungmin is minho's right hand—his MOST trustworthy. yet I can also see seungmin as someone who may have ulterior motives: he's making his own moves and plays behind everyones back and can be perceived as untrustworthy if anyone knew simply due to the nature of what he's doing (building his own empire maybe who knows) honestly gives hitman vibes if im real (I think there's a very thin line between hitman and serial killer yk and well...hitmen don't take trophies...) seungmin is fr someone who shouldn't be crossed. isn't into dating but he might fuck around once or twice

Oh boy. This is a simple question with a complicated answer, so buckle up.

First thing I need you to understand is how personal beetlebabes is for me. It was my childhood comfort movie. My mother tells the story of how I used to cry when the wedding was interrupted. Beetlebabes was the first fanfiction I ever read/wrote. Lydia was the first character I ever attempted to roleplay in my Myspace days when I was a preteen discovering fandom and the internet. The Burton fan chat I was apart of in those days (full of assumed beetlebabes shippers bc back then, if you were a fan, people just assumed you shipped it bc why else would you even be there?) was my first online friend group. Beetlebabes fanfiction is where I learned how to write and earned my first taste of clout. Beetlebabes made a heavy resurgence in my 20's with the release of the musical and the consequential fallout, and taught me hard lessons about who I want to be and who I want to surround myself with.

It has permeated every area of my life from infancy to adulthood. It's not like my other ships; easily forgotten, a passing fancy to entertain myself. Beetlebabes is an allegory. Lydia is every damaged little goth girl. Lydia is me.

And I had a rough childhood. I've had a rough life period. Things have been better the last 5+ years and are looking damn near perfect now, but overall it's not been a picnic. Name an abuse and I have endured it: physical, sexual, psychological, financial. Details aren't necessary or wanted here I think, but the context matters to answer the question.

The next important concept I need you to understand is what a "puritanbabe" is. They existed pre-musical and were just as annoying then but with BJ2 their numbers have grown along with their volume and stupidity. They're basically just antis in a beetlebabes hat. To me, an anti is someone who follows a certain morally bankrupt code of ethics, not someone who dislikes a ship. I dislike plenty of ships and I'm not a fucking anti.

Antis believe that fictional taste can be used to weed out and persecute thought criminals: people who think the wrong way. These people believe that it is not only acceptable, but necessary to disrespect, bully, and ostracize anyone who makes beetlebabes content that they find distasteful i.e. non/dubcon/underage.

So. Canon-based content.

This impossibly stupid demographic has made it their mission to normalize the erasure of the canon universe because it offends their delicate sensibilities. To be perfectly clear, I have no issue with vanilla aged up content. Some of my favorite beetlebabes fics meet that criteria. My beef is with the hypocrisy. It's about the attitude. These people think they're better than me on the basis of skewed morals, but I think they're fake fans who don't even like Betelgeuse and have deluded themselves as to who these characters are, who created them, and what the story is even about.

This is the type of person who typically hates dreamverse theory because it invalidates their platonic Betelgeuse in movie one headcanon, as well as the possibility of BJ3 ever happening. The amount of harassment I've gotten over a fan theory is staggering.

And let me remind everyone that no matter how badly you want it, Tim does not want to make BJ3 and there's a good reason for that. I see the constant pleading for it as disrespectful at worst, mentally lazy at best. Everything we could ever need to be happy forever exists in BJ2, and we didn't deserve any of it, but these bitches are un-fucking-grateful. They really think that if they beg enough and are annoying enough, there's going to be a BJ3 where Lydia and BJ get married for realsies and live happily ever after...and I can't work with that kind of delusion. There's no communicating with that.

I believe the drama that this uppity, self-righteous sector of fandom brings is part of why Tim used "MacArthur Park" to break up with us. He doesn't want anything to do with us and I don't blame him. This is a man that holds grudges. He has been known to lash out artistically. If studios force him to make BJ3 against his will, it will not be pretty for anyone, especially the shippers who were not grateful for the bounty that was BJ2.

It's also important to understand that I read a lot. My time on the internet is relegated to discord, AO3, and sometimes Tumblr. That's it. So when I say that the majority of beetlebabes fic kinda sucks, it's coming from someone with incredibly high standards. I'm not trying to hurt feelings(unless you're an asshole anon), I'm just giving the honest assessment of someone who spends all their downtime reading. There are younger monsterfucker ships with oodles more interesting, in-character content than beetlebabes, and if there were less puritanbabes spouting holier-than-thou bullshit, maybe more people would feel safer creating canonically accurate, quality content.

I'm also not taking any musical content into consideration because I don't like the musical and don't read it. As far as I'm concerned, it's an entirely separate fandom.

In closing, I've been here a long time. You spend enough time sitting still in the same place saying the same controversial thing and you'll amass plenty of friends and enemies both. They come and go. There are interpersonal beefs spanning years. There are people out there crying over hurt feelings I've forgotten, things I said to them while they were harassing me on anon that were wiped from my brain as soon as I clicked "post."

It's just the way it is. When it comes to other babes, I return the energy I am given.

Evelyn is not okay.

It’s so obvious, so why is Drew Stiles the only one who sees it?

Sure, everyone had been a little worried when she first came back - from the dead, from Bastogne, wherever - but when she didn’t explode into tears or break down, when she didn’t faint or swoon because of her head wound, they all miffed and frowned and moved on.  The vets all grumble about how it seems she must not have ever really cared about her friends anyway, and the replacements gawk at the Reaper who brushes off death like an annoying bug, seemingly unfazed.

But this isn’t Evelyn.  This is the ghost of Evelyn, for lack of a better expression.  Or maybe just a vacant shell.  Her body’s here, trudging through snow, leading the platoon with her new promotion, but her heart is just gone.  One night, when the two of them were sharing a foxhole, she had been so still and silent after she fell asleep, Stiles had reached out to feel for her pulse, visions of finding her death-like body strewn across the pavement of the airbase filling his head.  He still swears to this day that he hadn’t been able to find her heartbeat in that foxhole, but her chest had been rising and falling, so he had chalked it up to numb fingers and moved on.

He tried talking to Aiello about it once, in that first week or two.  Frosty and bitter, Aiello was angry, pissed that Eve was moving on, unaffected by their recent losses.  That she didn’t seem to care.  Stiles argued back - something’s wrong, something’s really wrong - but it wasn’t until Evelyn had Aiello sent off the line to act as a runner that the New Yorker started to thaw, peering through his own grief to see what Stiles has been seeing.

Stiles still doesn’t know exactly why Evelyn sent him off - something about a red bird - but he does know Aiello needed it.  The constant shivering, the bitter remarks, the faraway look in his eyes, how it was taking longer and longer to drag him back into conversations and out of his own mind.  He argued with her about it, but when he came back, there was an undeniable lightness to his shoulders, his eyes a bit more clear.

“Thanks, princess,” Stiles heard him mutter to the still-then sergeant when he checked back in.  She reached out, squeezing his arm tightly.

“Gotta get ya to the end, Aiello,” she said back, something vulnerable peaking through her mask. “I’m not losing anybody else.”

So now Aiello sort of agrees with Stiles, and will occasionally keep an eye out on their newly appointed lieutenant, trade glances with the bespectacled man whenever she does something worrisome.  If Pierson is keeping an eye out as well, Stiles can’t tell.  He’s just as abrasive as ever, arguing with Evelyn whenever he can, and it’s a coin flip over whether she argues back or not.  Sometimes, she snarls and snaps right back, both of them with raised hackles like feral dogs, and sometimes she doesn’t rise to the bait, instead just refusing to argue with him, leveling him a glare.  Sometimes, still, she’ll stop, pausing enough for Pierson to quiet down, and then she’ll agree with him, let him continue on with his idea or plan as long as he isn’t barking it at her.

While Pierson gets a varied response from Evelyn, Dickson and the new lieutenant from third platoon are not so lucky.  Whatever patience Evelyn had before is long gone and she’s blunt as ever when dealing with Dickson.  He’s started containing himself solely to second platoon, to Aiello’s relief.  Stiles just rolls his eyes as the New Yorker talks about being free of that “brown-nosing bag of dicks”.

The lieutenant from third platoon, however?  Stiles and Aiello both have a bet on how Evelyn is going to injure him first.  Aiello’s torn between a broken nose or a kick to the balls - both very typical of their friend.  Stiles has a pack of Lucky Strikes down for a bite.  With how much she’s been snarling lately, he wouldn’t put it past her.

If you trigger her or hit a sore spot it doesnt matter if I really wanted the fluff or smut the whole thing's now derailed bc Katherine is busy reacting to what your muse said or did. ok so. my original idea for The Rotting of the Lamb was that Lacey would sacrifice her time n safety n comfort to help all the bishops make up and live happy mortal lives. she'd sort of expose them to the good abt mortality and help them thru their emotions w unconditional positive regard. she also helps Camilo almost be at peace.

then one day there's a new realm where the doors to darkwood and such should be. n it's Rin, in the purgatory Camilo put her in. So they do the whole defeat-and-spare thing but Nari is adamant that they need to kill her and she's going to destroy them n Camilo is just so overwhelmed that they dip. Lacey puts Rin in jail to put off the decision until Camilo comes back.

Eventually they do, and they want Lacey's happy dream world to be realized, so they let her try to help Rin. But Rin isn't like the others. Lacey doesn't know how to begin to make her better. n later on she realizes that Rin's been hurting Camilo again and Lacey is actively enabling it by letting her be there. She has a huge fight with Rin where she does an act of divine wrath--sending Rin to a purgatory where she lives out Camilo's old life as her vessel, dying again and again and again. That's what makes her ascend. ofc there's more but that's a summary of the relevant parts.

Here's the problems with that. It feels off to have a second party be the one to 'resolve' the abusive situation between Camilo and Rin. It makes that situation into a plot device. But w Lacey's character, Rin's continued abuse toward her mirror--who she understands more than anyone n the only one who rly understands her--is the only thing that would make her have that act of wrath. Like Rin is a ticking time bomb for Lacey. Everything Lacey hates. And Camilo isn't going to resolve things w Rin themselves--they're going to keep destroying themselves until something gets in the way. Back when they killed her the first time, they hadn't seen what their life could be like. Now seeing Nari and Lacey (and the rehabilitation of the bishops) makes them hold onto hope that Rin will change.

Another problem is that her retaliation isn't rly "rotting of purity," and feels off for the name of the au. It's just retaliation against an abusive party. She does go crazy w it (finally saying she doesn't want Rin there, something she's felt but never said nor acted on, and making her 'disappear') but it still feels off bc she's just putting her feelings ahead of everyone else's for once. That could add to the unfairness of the situation (like godhood doesn't care abt cruelty vs retaliation, u ascend anyway) but idk.

BUT!!!!!!!!!

i thought of a second option. Lacey actually does sacrifice something for Camilo's happy ending. Her powers, or something like that. Maybe she sacrifices her mortalhood. But she gives something huge that she actually doesn't want to give to bring Camilo a "good end" version of Rin(?) Something like that--a good ending for Camilo. Maybe thru the mystic seller. And over time, she gets more and more resentful, but she shoves it down. Eventually she kills Rin for taking her happy ending, and that causes her ascension (if she's not ascending already.) it's still an act of divine wrath and a rotting of purity. N if she's already ascending, it's an act that officially 'rots' her. Slippery slope type deal.

The only issue is that Camilo would still have memories of Rin's abuse n it feels kinda off to resolve that thru adding in "non-abusive version of abuser." N it feels a little like Lacey just suddenly turning evil, instead of a twist of her normal psyche. BUT she would be rotting AND she would have actually sacrificed too much, instead her sacrifice being more of a metaphor.

Anyway Simeon is my favorite guy ever and has been since the beginning I'm completely obsessed with him bc he's literally perfect tell my WHY on gods green earth he's always getting swept under the rug. Why does this man never get any attention and when he does why is he mischaracterized. He's got it all. He's tall and handsome in kind of an ethereal effeminate way, he's sweet and kind but not a pushover, he's one of the most tragic characters in the game, he's the perfect muse for a religious trauma arc, a corruption arc, a "the calm collected one who's always having a good time finally snaps and goes apeshit" arc, I mean come on. Come on. Every time I remember that his main sin is wrath despite him being SO chill and gentle on the outside I want to giggle a little bit. My beautiful princess with identity issues and slutty waist I'm so sorry everyone ignores you

Solomon though. I don't remember how I felt about him at first (other than lots of gender envy) but he wasn't a favorite until I came back to the fandom after being absent for ages. Like damn this man is everything. He's so complicated /pos that I cant even articulate why I love him so much but he's so well written (maybe one of the only ones who are written halfway decently) and SO tragic. The way he's so desperately in love with the mc and is forced to watch them go for literally anyone else but would still do anything for them and ask for nothing but a little bit of loyalty in return is scrumptious. Also the way immortality just kinda fucks you up after a while when you're only human. I've been very tempted to put him in a poly ship with my mc and Simeon bc he deserves it but for now he just has to watch from afar as the man he loves endlessly makes out with his best friend that he also kinda sorta has a little crush on bc making the gays suffer brings me copious amounts of joy. He's also the "always totally calm and collected no matter what but actually has really strong feelings that he works to keep in check" type like Simeon and I love that for him. One of the fics I'm reading has him once become so panicked over the MC's wellbeing that he completely loses his composure. Yelling, trembling, the whole nine yards and it was fucking glorious, I love seeing characters like him break.

Also I have to talk a little about Lucifer. He's not generally a favorite but I just think it's funny how I went from hating his guts bc I thought he was an asshole to to liking him a lot bc I have a weak spot for big brother characters. He loves his family so so so much and just has trouble showing it properly!! He's still an asshole and an uptight prick but I like that about him now. My mc had the same development with him as I did, he went from "I hate this motherfucker I wanna kill him also he kinda scares me" to "this is my big brother we are holding hands :)" in the span of like a year and a half and it's really funny. Lucifer thought he was finally getting a sensible housemate and friend but ended up getting another insufferable, headache indicung little brother figure instead. Also I kinda have a non canon ship between him and my MC's father bc the idea is SO funny but also a little cute bc they compliment each other real well. My mc would become homophobic so fast if he found out and thinking about it is incredibly entertaining

i hate elves.

i say this, having played an elf before so i know why powergamers like them. there is nothing wrong with enjoying the aesthetic of 'twink with a sword' or 'elven accuracy go brrrr'.

but having read the 'elf book' (i think it was the same book as them releasing all the new variants of tieflings? i cant remember now) i was underwhelmed.

Elf lore is that they are basically No Name brand Tolkien elves with none of the interesting, ethereal bits and all of the xenophobia. Which - wanna preface this - there is nothing bad about exploring themes of discrimination in ttrpgs. It just. has to be handled with something other than misinterpreting or straight up copying Lord of the Rings?

I cannot for the life of me find the book it was in, but i remember reading that elves want to travel back to their homeland or feel a call to the beyond or something like that. Which is just. LotR elves but less interesting.

My main issue is that elves in WotC worlds offer nothing new to the genre. They are generic, easily digestible, bland ass creatures. I'm not as familiar with Pf2e lore but at least they actually bring up the problem of different lifespans in their description. Also! Elves change in appearance in pf depending on where they live. so we don't NEED 700 different kinds of elves.

Doing a cursory glance at a wiki (which is sad that only Fandom has info on WotC. one would think they would care more about their lore.) I get this.

This is everything they have on the general culture for elves. If i click into the lore sections for Sun Elves, it provides me with a little bit more - which is nice.

anyone who knows me irl has gotten the Drow Rant before; but recently I changed my mind. I don't hate Drow for what they do - but rather how it is presented.

Drow are an 'Evil Race' - although not Naturally Evil like Orcs (which was wild to read and i have a bone to pick abt that)

Yet their lore emphasizes that 'all' drow have a massive superiority complex, a lack of conventional morality, are vengeful, taught to be power hungry, and mistrust everyone around them - even the ones that don't want to be 'evil'. And you know what?

Thats rad! I like that!

There is a non-perfect society that doesn't always get along with itself. Granted the reason they provide as to why Drow haven't just killed each other is kindof a cop-out but with very minimal tweaking you might actually have something. The only thing i don't really like abt drow is that there is no 'good' or redeeming traits about them. Culture is 2 sides of the same coin; for every horrible policy, there was something relatively good. Maybe their judicial system is tight. Maybe they have great infrastructure. Idk but I want to know more.

Anyways TLDR: Elves deserve better. I find them bland because they are just empty husks stolen from Lord of the Rings, and half their lore no longer applies to modern dnd. Drow are the only semi-fleshed out elves and that scares me bc they are a spider sex cult. ;/

I am admittedly a little anxious getting these two because typing this up I realized almost all my thoughts on them are extremely unpopular lol so I need everyone to prommy not to kill me 🙏

How I feel about this character

Ngl I hated his ass in 1-2 haha I was mourning Kazuma so bad, but he grew on me quickly like some kind of fungus. I was routinely laughing but cringing at the shit this guy did on screen. I do have qualms with how he handled the Iris situation (like. A Lot of them...he needlessly caused her so much more anguish by letting her think any parent of hers was still alive and by keeping her at arms length because he didn't think he was worthy to assume the role of dad even tho she imprinted on him like a duckling, not to mention the whole parentification she went through due to his issues) but I find him to be a fascinating flawed individual with a really fucking good design, I want his clothes so bad, also his theme is great. He lies but he wants to do what's right but he's manic but he's got a delicate ego but he's hilarious

Also round of applause to Herlock for giving us the Dance of Deduction, sure it dragged on at times but it was fun, extra applause for the dance around a bomb that one case

Vanlock. I don't vibe with him x anyone else for a variety of reasons, none of them being "it's problematic" (short of like. Something actually illegal) so much as "I don't like that age gap" or "I don't like that ship because it makes one or both of them kinda scummy if they were fucking around" etc (like he knew Kazuma was alive, it would make him such a jackass if he was with Ryuu while Ryuu was grieving Kazuma y'know?)

He and Barok have bitter exes energy the few times they interact which is already hilarious but also post canon everything wrt Iris would result in a ridiculous co-parenting situation. I think there's a lot of interesting angst & healing potential between the little family dynamic there and I have written & read a lot on it, they're just really funny. It can be wholesome or toxic!

My non-romantic OTP for this character

I do think that maybe back in the day Herlock had unrequited feelings he never acted on that Yujin politely pretended not to notice

*prepares myself to get shot* hm/mk. I know they're the Sherlock Watson duo, but they are an iteration of it where I love their weird platonic friendship and not the romantic/sexual angle. They are inarguably important to each other and I think being platonic makes it more interesting the way they connected and kept in touch the entire time since they separated. Herlock brings out a levity & silliness in Yujin that's funny to see, and was almost certainly a major catalyst in Yujin healing from the loss of Ayame

My unpopular opinion about this character

I know some shippers think it's romantic that Herlock considered Yujin to be Iris's real dad but I think it was irresponsible and selfish of him to do that, considering Yujin did not seem to feel that way himself and poor Iris suffered for years from it. Like bro YOU'RE her dad! (He gets there eventually tho)

Ryuu should've punched him in the face when he realized his involvement in Kazuma's "death"

My poor little meow meow, the saddest wettest prosecutor. He's hot and his theme fucks really hard and he sucks so much but it's soooooo funny for the most part. It's interesting how difficult he is interpersonally to Ryuu & Susato (bc he's a racist bitch) while also being one of the most helpful prosecutors in the series from the gate. He's such a bitch about it the entire time tho but he really does indulge any stupid argument as he genuinely cares for justice (EXCEPT with Soseki he just wants to ruin that poor guy's life)

I get a bit defensive of being a bvz fan because like, yes he is racist, but also he's a British noble from 1899-1900ish he realistically would've been so much worse irl (almost every British char you interact with is racist 😔). I guess it's just like, this is the setting of the game, and it's completely understandable that's a deal breaker for people!!, but the fandom at large back in the height of when the duology localization came out was extremely aggressive against anyone even vaguely amicable to him. He's supposed to be a flawed yet sympathetic antagonist, he's the main prosecutor that's how the entire series has operated!! He also does show genuine remorse and dedication to change by the game's end, and I think it's important to let flawed characters get better because we need to let flawed people get better. He's realistic in an ugly way

To go a little more after my comments above, vanlock just drove me absolutely insane right after I finished the games, and some of my favorite fanfic I ever read was a series about their growing relationship post canon. I left comments so long I went over word count, which is as impressive as it is embarrassing! I also wrote a lot of fic for them, at one point I had the most posted by 1 author haha

Barok & Ryuu, they have the funniest rapport. I actually didn't realize "learned friend" was lawyer slang when I originally played the games, I thought Barok was just being a cunt and Ryunosuke decided "fine I'll be cunt too, bitch" when he started saying it back. Bvz pal he just wants to be your friend but you're so mean and intimidating haha! The way Ryunosuke just approaches him in 2-3 and is like "Soooooo heard your brother got murdered" and then later that same day shows up at his office with Iris, calls Barok ugly and Klint hot in the same sentence, and the two of them just harass him until he finally runs out of things to say, god it was so fucking hilarious.

The only way that entire scene would've been better was if Barok's desk was smashed and poorly reassembled like in the concept art

One thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon

I always wished he cared a bit about his sil, especially because his ass is not beating the incest allegations with how heartbroken he was about Klint & being British nobility in the 1800s 😭 it's difficult being a fan of this loser

I understand why Klint would be most important, but I prefer baskerzieks being genuinely in love and Lady B as another doting older sibling to Barok, so I wish he had acknowledged the tragic death of her too. I do wonder if part of why they kept her so far from any bit of the story is because Iris looks SO MUCH like her to the point it would make him look extremely foolish not putting 2&2 together when he first met Iris

Oh also Shu Takumi please. Please tell us how he got his facial scar. You told us how Enoch had white hair which isn't even that weird for aa why did you not tell us how a main character got a facial scar that he has an animation where he touches it? Please
