yes yes yes okay!! tbh i rlly hate when people try to discredit their relationship bc like they DID like each other. they cared about each other they went through so much together and sometimes shit just doesnt work out. like i will not lie i was SUCH a huge makorra shipper when i was watching s1 because!! the chemistry!! the love!! it was there!!

i think if you think abt it in the original context makorra makes sm sense - tlok was originally intended to be a miniseries/the show wouldve ended after s1. it made the most narrative sense to yes give them relationship drama but also end the series with them together, but then the show got a s2 and they suddenly had to explore the relationship between and the truth of the matter is that honestly. it makes perfect fucking sense that they didnt work out.

theyre both too hotheaded and too stubborn and unwilling to compromise and while they clearly did love each other they were also very young and didnt know how to properly navigate a relationship enough to set aside their differences - nor did they really have the time to, considering everything that was going on.

i think the biggest thing standing in their way was that they purely just did not have enough time to explore their relationship in the way that two normal teenagers would. if they'd been anyone else i honestly think they might've lasted for longer - but korra was the avatar, and mako was a part of the team, and they both had responsibilites and things that Came First. it was also becoming very apparently clear that situations like what happened in s2 were going to keep popping up, and i don't think either of them had the emotional capacity or mental space to deal with all of that PLUS a very new, VERY convoluted relationship. i think it was just the easier thing for both of them to break up and focus on everything else.

also i love the breakup scene!! not the first one obviously where korra goes ham at the police station, but the actual one, with the final kiss - i think it gives both them and the audience some sort of closure, and it establishes that yes, the love is still there, but it's not enough to keep trying to make the relationship work.

i guess it also begs the question of whether or not they wouldve worked as a couple later when they were older and knew how to balance everything better, but in all honesty i dont think they would have. they grew up into different people with different goals for themselves. they work great as teammates and as friends, but a romantic relationship wouldve thrown their entire dynamic out of whack. imo they would've turned into something akin to lin and tenzin if they dated again later.

plus, yknow, asami. in the later seasons i think it was pretty fucking clear what they were going for tbh, and i think they complement each other better than makorra ever did. i could probably write a dissertation on korrasami but this has gotten long enough as it is lmaoo

anyways!! i think makorra gets unwarranted hate i think it was a relationship that they both needed for the character development and to solve a what-if and it really was just a case of teenagers being teenagers. never wouldve been endgame nor did they need to be

i’ll give you two answers (and then an answer to something you didnt even ask) bc im not sure if by confirmed you mean to the audience or to mike and will.

if they both establish their feelings to each other in volume 2 then i think next season will be them dating in secret but will wants to come out to everyone and mike doesnt. they might get in a fight about it. i think mike has way more internalized homophobia than will ever did and the idea of people knowing really scares him. in the first episode when they reunite again i think they’ll be all cute and happy in private and then will asks “are we telling them this time” and mike clearly gets anxious and will might say something like “you said next time we see each other you’d be ready” and mike denies it or something.

i also think dustin might be on to them and a little side story will be dustin talking to lucas about it and lucas wouldnt believe him at all but dustin totally does. i also hope mike has a wholesome coming out moment with nancy. i just would love to see that. but overall i think next season would be them dating but mikes struggle with being openly himself might make their relationship a little rocky. but will knows its not his fault so it doesnt lead to any huge fight or break up or anything. its just hard that theyre not on the same page with that.

if mike and wills feelings are confirmed to the audience in volume 2 but not to each other then i think next season will be painful mutual pining that neither recognize or act on because theyre both scared the other doesnt feel the same way. i think they might figure it out halfway through the season because if they saved it to the end there wouldnt be much room to show their coming out. honestly i think if this is the case i think people might find out accidentally because 1) i dont want them to just jump right into coming out with just a couple scenes and not express how serious that moment is to them and 2) i dont think mike would be ready to come out immediately after starting to date will.

it would make a lot more sense for them to establish their feelings to each other at the end of this season but im honestly not sure they will because they havent shown that much of mikes feelings. nothing they showed indicated that he doesnt have feelings for him, but what they did show was very subtle and when i have conversations with stranger things fans that love the show but dont follow up with theories or cast interviews as heavily, they all have never even considered mike being gay. most know that will likes mike but they dont suspect mike likes will. and i know thats probably what the duffers were going for but honestly i dont think it was the best move because now i think if they push it all in volume 2 it’ll feel to casual fans like it came out of nowhere. they should have implied it the way they implied nancy and steve getting back together.

though i do think thats what theyre doing based on everything the cast and crew has said. the duffers said finn plays a more emotional mike this season. we havent seen much emotion from mike at all, at least none that i would describe as more emotional than previous seasons, so that means that he’ll be a lot more emotional in volume 2. finn has said multiple times that mike learns a lot about himself and how he sees his relationships with people so i think he does figure out he’s gay and likes will but im not sure about him confessing to will.

from what we’ve seen already it would make more sense for mike to just realize his feelings this season but not admit it to will, but when you consider what that would lead to next season and how they would have to kinda rush their coming out, it makes more sense for them to get together this season. theres pros and cons to each.

i ended up answering lots of questions you didnt even ask but i just wanted to talk about that cuz i dont see a lot of people debating whether the characters will confirm it to each other or if theyll just confirm it to the audience this season. but yeah thats what i think will happen next season with mike and will in either scenario.

i didnt rlly mind the THOUGHT of kira and odo: i was actually rlly welcome to the idea of them sort of ending up together, somehow, but then realising they rlly werent a right fit. it made sense- with bareil passing, and odo still trying to learn to navigate human relationships, and them being very close friends but somehow reading the wrong things into it, but its just.... idk they left it on the back burner way too long and that it really doesnt even make sense to do that now so this entire episode i was jsut like. :/ ok? bc its not offering much of anyhting any more to me, my love, im afraid and tht makes me go -_- bc now youvrjust ... kind of wacked them both together and i hope u arent insufferable with it, but when that happens and relationships are made between core chars with little intention then . well thats honestly the case. i mean i guess maybe theyre trying to go for like... them literally being endgame, he really has been there and she just needs to open her eyes- but god it jsut doesnt work for me..... i dotn think they make a good couple that would stay together liek tht. like i said i think they could have easily grown together much earlier on in some way and then parted ways amicably as besties but idk this just feels off to m now

furthermore with regards to shakaar and bareil... like honestly i dont mind kira having offscreen boyfriends- sorta like how sisko has kassidy , where shes more lowkey, but shes STILL a fully formed character its just shes sorta not the main focus like. im kinda fine with tht you know like.... again i feel like. hm.

i feel like as a general rule of thumb for me . if a character in question is motivated a lot or if a truly significant part of their life is defined by their dynamic with another, more minor character... then that other character does have to have some significant substance and agency. like if u want me to actively give a shit when ur char does i have to actually.... see a another char there, and not a cardboard cutout. its why i rlly rate them for fleshing out jake: lots of parent characters are just given flat, meaningless kids (or vice versa) just to endanger them or to pull on the heartstrings whenever which. really just kinda feels hollow. sisko being a father is a defining part of him- and so its really good tht they have jake fleshed out properly...

meanwhile then im just infuriated by the absolute disservice done to keiko and molly on the REGULAR when o'brien is supposed to be the family man. always presenting keiko in the way they do- its beyond unfair- and at this point in the show theyve literally forgotten abt her for seasons and shoved her elsewhere. and im like. -_- ok.

the thing about baiting

look: baiting only gets you so far. You either have to end up giving the people what you’ve promised, or you will end up with very, very frustrated viewers. They have baited us with Bellarke since season 1, and it has been intense this season. And if theyre truly meant to be forever platonic, have always meant to be platonic, then this baiting is just so fucking dumb.? Like its just not a smart move, you know?? Ppl want to see romantic Bellarke. Why the fuck waste that much S5 screen time on hints so in-your-face u can see it 10 miles against the rain? “She is”; “hostage taker and his girlfriend”, jealous Clarke TIMES FUCKIGN 2; “traitor who you love"? Like.. I get if over half the fandom ships something, which you do not want and have no intention of giving them, baiting them and taunting them with it is a way to keep your audience watching. But... IF they are rly not gonna make them canon, and keep baiting forever, they are gonna lose viewers. Its just a fact. Baiting can take a dramatic turn for the worse when ppl just stop fucking watching bc theyre tired of it. 

SO my firm belief is: if u dont plan on making a heavily shipped couple canon, you, as a showrunner and as a team of writers, have to keep the baiting light. emphasis on light. U concentrate on writing interesting romantic relationships with other ppl that the viewers can get invested in. Done right, you dont necessarily have to lose following. Bellarke was the shows number 1 ship, then Clexa came along. People jumped ship. People shipped both. Clexa was a well written and interesting love story; I still ship it. It can be done. Not only that, but the 100 has done it before. So just start like.. writing them platonically, you know? Keep the Bellarke light, give us some Becho background, they have some great history! You could sell that ship, if you really wanted.

Which brings me to my last point. They didnt want it. They didnt spend jack shit on Becho OR Echo. Even though they had the material to do so from previous seasons. INSTEAD, they spent almost the entire season with “that Bellarke shit”. And frankly, I think if it were just baiting, it would just be too damn stupid? Like a stupid ass hot fucking mess kind of dumb. You cant get the entire god damn fandom riled up just to be like “lol jk”. Not like this. There are smart people in those writing rooms. If Bellarke was never meant to be endgame, they could have minimised the damage long ago. By, you know, not baiting the fuck out of it. In the long run, it would have been the best choice when it comes to numbers and viewers, simple as that. They didnt. They didnt, which is why I am still so so sure its gonna happen. And soon. This isnt Klaroline.

- im writing a lot i guess but im not as passionate lmao, when i was finishing the season i was kinda,,,,,, uninterested

- ezor and zethrid?? bad...... i thought it was weird?? to just bring them in and make them villians for one episode and then murder them? i guess they wanted to make sure we werent like “what happened to them?” but idk that was lame and the whole “homicidal lesbians!!” tweet was fucking gross and they murdered them so!! 

- axca having feelings for keith? bitch where.... MAYBE shes had a crush on keith this whole time... why does she have a crush on him?? who fucking knows theyve been. enemies the whole time they dont have any chemistry. and then she was only in a few episodes before just going and coming back in the end. like. i see no reason to address and tease axca abt her crush at this point unless her and keith are endgame and that makes me super fuckin mad!! i hate rushed and shallow relationships!! 

- i heard keith was ooc and mean this season but personally i didnt think it was that bad and it wasnt as bad as i thought itd be. him being mean when they were stranded in space?? i felt like that was... a little over the top but that situation was super stressful and all the characters were sorta ooc. the two main parts i thought were weird and unusually rude of keith were when he was like “i chose lance bc i dont want to spend eternity w/ him” instead of like... telling lance that hes valuable to the team like hes done in the past, and when keith said “dont miss” to lance on earth?? that felt.... weird.. like keith just suddenly didnt have faith in his abilities 

- not a fan of how they picked on lance again with the whole “the dumb paladin” stuff and never really resolved it again?? lance is?? smart?? he can be a bit of an airhead but no one even reassured him that they didnt think he was ‘the dumb one’ and lance was obviously upset about it hmm

- i thought the story delivered this time?? the season 6 story was shitty and i really didnt like it, but the story this season felt a lot better and less random n stuff. im really into griffins team?? or idk if youd call them veronica’s team since shes their handler--- but i really love them!! idk they were... refreshing

- uhhh so i felt like they put james and keith together a lot? even though they didnt actually end up interacting or talking that much? i hope they interact more in season 8 and like... resolve their conflict with each other, cause i felt like it was there?? theyre not really ignoring that keith and james are indifferent to each other or showing that theyve let go of their conflict so i think that means they want to show them resolving but.... who knows im shitty at analysis stuff

- adam. my thoughts? gross! killing him for like, no reason was bad enough but when i started watching it i was only aware of the plaque or whatever honoring adam?? i didnt know that they fucking showed him die and that made me super upset!!!! that was!! so fucking shitty!!! uhg i fucking. hate that. and then shiro was barley shown grieving?? just a bit after he saw the plaque and then in the last ep..... barley...... idk it was just. ick. 

- i just really didnt like how they killed adam and then all the het relationships are?? okay?? and new het relationships were introduced and developed like lance and allura and keith and axca!! fuck those relationships lmao, hunk even saw shay fucking hell, like, thats great!! i missed seeing them interact but holy shit, they really couldnt even keep adam alive?? they didnt even have to have adam fucking get back together w/ shiro but i just. cant believe they killed him and destroyed even the idea of them making up and becoming lovers again?? they cant even be friends now or anything and thats just. idk i still feel so gross about this lmao! oh and..... yeah you would never ever guess that shiro and adam were anything more than friends if you werent told they were lovers outside of the show thats fucking. bullshit. 

- i hate.... allura and lance.... i really really hate that theyre def gonna be endgame, theres no doubt in my mind that theyre gonna become a couple but!! i hate it!! theyre supposed to be crushing on each other this season actually but you cant fucking tell lmao, they didnt have any in depth scenes or were behaving differently towards each other except for when allura said goodbye to lance and they both were blushing or whatever-- and then obviously i dont like the whole ‘keep pursuing a woman until she says yes’ trope going on. idk, i def think that allurance and kaxca are going to become canon but both of them are so rushed and shallow?? i thought allurance was random and rushed but.... kaxca is even fucking worse holy shit

i think no matter what, the ending will be very emotional so they might not be referring to a main character death but that does sound like someones gonna die. i think the “not everyone will be satisfied” part could be referring to the endgame couples. not even just byler but jancy too.

also i forget her direct quote but millie said that the duffers are too attached to their characters to kill any of them and honestly shes right thats why they keep adding new characters that are written to die from the start instead of killing the og gang. maybe it’ll be different this time since its the last season and its not like theyre killing off an actor and wont be able to work with them again but idk. heres what i think:

will dying honestly just wouldnt make sense at all. they need the satisfaction of this character whos been suffering from the very first episode to get his happy ending or honestly just ANY ending/closure thats not death. i cant see them having this character suffer alone in the upside down, be possessed, be ignored by his friends and feel behind in growing up, fall in love with someone he assumes could never love him back, and then DIE???!! that’d be insane. it would be a very incomplete character arc. i unfortunately think he would be more likely to die than any of the other kids just because he has such a big role next season and killing say lucas or dustin would be so random but i do think it would just not be great writing if they killed him. for so many reasons. like there are deaths that i absolutely did not want but do make sense and are well written in the grand scheme of things, eddie being one of them. i think every death in the show so far abides to that actually, whether i wanted them to die or not but that just wouldnt be the case for will at all.

theres also the fact that every single death in the show has played a big role in the next season so if someone were to die in s5 we’d never see how that affects the characters they were closest to making THEIR character arc incomplete as well. so because of that i dont think it would be jonathan or joyce because we’d never see will cope with that, i dont think it’d be any of the og party kids for the same reason (and i honestly just dont think the duffers would kill the og boys), i dont think itd be hopper bc we wouldnt see el cope, plus she just got him back so thatd just be plain mean. and i dont think mike or will would die bc byler will happen. they wouldnt have SO much queercoding for both of them only to have them kiss maybe once and then one of them dies. itd be a waste of all the time they spent building them up. but i do believe mike will have a near death experience.

i dont think it will be el at all because like millie said, theyd never have the balls to do that, but also this would almost completely ruin byler for me. it objectively wouldnt be wrong because mike has had feelings for will this whole time but i would actually understand those who would be mad at mike for just dating will “out of nowhere” after his gf dies. it’d look so bad and like will, we need to see el truly happy to satisfyingly finish her character arc and that involves being happily single and have a very healthy wholesome friendship with mike. she and will probably would be willing to sacrifice themselves but i dont think anyone would let them go through with it.

i also think a lot of characters are just too random to die. robin, nancy, argyle, murray, lucas, dustin, erica, these are all characters that do play a big role but not one big enough that i think they may die.

then theres max. i dont think she’d die but im not as confident in this one. im not saying she wont wake up. they would have just killed her this season if they werent planning on having her wake up. she will definitely play a part in next season and i think a lot of it may be related to the state shes in. like if shes blind, she will notice things the other characters dont because theyre focusing on what theyve seen whereas max would pay more attention to what theyve heard or touched. it could be a really interesting point of view if shes blind. but it could be a situation where shes still very weak and her body hasnt fully recovered yet so shes more at risk than the others but the reason im hesitant to say she could die is the same reason i dont think hopper would die. like el, lucas is currently mourning the loss of her. she’s not dead but he did lose her and to bring her back only to lose her again for good would just be so brutal.

this leaves one last person and believe me i am just as upset as you are but fuck i really think it might be steve. every season he is seen as a hero to these kids, hes always putting himself first before any of them and protecting them in every way he can, he always ends up getting his shit rocked, he is a fan favorite. it would be a very impactful death, much more than any of the random characters i mentioned earlier like dustin or erica. it’d have such an impact on people that i think a big reason why it hasnt happened already is because there are people who would literally stop watching if he died. ive NEVER seen a fictional character so universally loved like this so if they were ever going to kill him it’d definitely be the last season. and if they want a super emotional death that gets everyone talking, he is 100% the one to go with.

going back to how we would never see the characters cope with the loss, i think they could get away with it for this one. it would be fucking devastating for dustin especially bc he just lost eddie but steve might have helped him a lot with his death and he could take his advice for steve’s as well. and for robin it would also be so sad but i think she and dustin could find comfort in each other about it.

like i said earlier there are deaths that i really really wish didnt happen, but from a narrative perspective are well written and do make sense. steve makes sense because of how much of an impact hes had on EVERY other character. even if we dont see much interactions with some of them theres still little things that show us how close their relationship is with steve, the kids especially. we know hes closest with dustin, but mike, will, lucas, and max all still have a wholesome relationship with him and one way they showed us that was him regularly letting them into free movies through the back door of scoops ahoy. another one was him giving max and el ice cream and knowing el shouldnt be out. he also was the only one who went to lucas’ game even tho he didnt seem thrilled about his date and couldnt even sit with robin cuz she was in band. also the fact that max wrote him a letter. she didnt write any of the other older kids a letter which shows that she had a closer relationship with him than any of the older kids and one that goes beyond just being with them whenever the worlds going to shit again.

since most people would be on the same page with how close they were with him, this avoids the problem i mentioned earlier of a single character having an unresolved character arc because we never see them mourn. theres not another character i can think of that has this big of a relationship with almost everyone on the show. like robin dying would be so sad for steve but mike wouldnt be that affected. nancy dying would be so sad for mike but lucas wouldnt be that affected. erica dying would be so sad for lucas but will wouldnt be that affected, you get the gist. steve’s death would affect everyone.

i HATE to say it but it checks so many boxes on why it would objectively be a well written death for both the characters and the audience. BUT ID LOVE TO PROVEN WRONG!!!!!
