friendly reminder that you are allowed to be both happy that Buck is officially bi and angry that they’re not making Buddie canon. those two things can coexist. by being angered you are not dismissing the importance of his sexuality storyline. you’re allowed to be angry, you’re allowed to be sad, and you’re allowed to be upset with the writers. you’re also allowed to be happy because of the representation. AND you’re allowed to feel like it’s a cop-out and be disappointed in the representation. am i happy Buck is canonically bi? abso-fucking-lutely. is there a part of me that’s even more upset than when i thought we would never get bi buck confirmation? also yes.

I'm gonna be a little bit cryptic here, but stay with me for a sec.

I just read something that got my hackles up a bit. I'm not trying to call anyone out or bash anyone for their beliefs, so I'm not reposting their comment or anything like that. And that comment was not the first to dig at me, it just happened to be the catalyst to me writing this.

The subject of my annoynce: polyamorous relationships and the very misunderstood nature of them.

For those that don't know, I identify as bi and poly. What does that mean? Well, being bisexual means I find both men and women attractive, and being polyamorous for me means that I believe that there is more than one "soulmate," if you will, out there for me.

Here's the thing though. Polyamorous relationships are so vastly misunderstood. Do not confuse polyamory with polygamy! They are not the same thing! Polygamy is 1 person deciding they want multiple spouses married only to them. Polyamory is multiple people being in a loving ethically non-monogamous rationship and usually consists of all parties loving each other.

I'm not gonna sit here and pretend to be an expert on either. However, I hate it when people involved in the fandoms I follow and love say that putting certain characters in polyamorous relationships is lazy writing. To me, reading a fanfic someone spent their time writing and pouring themselves into with a polyamorous relationship between characters is a type of representation I don't find in the media. It's so hurtful to call that lazy! Someone poured their soul into writing that scenario and you wanna call their hard work lazy?!

The only reason that a polyamorous relationship is seen as a lazy answer in writing is because societal norms dictate that a relationship is between 2 people. Do you know how hard it is to have more than 1 partner? Can you fathom how difficult it can be to navigate normal relationship problems when you have multiple partners? It's definitely not lazy! Any relationship is hard and takes work and amazing communication and commitment to work, but when you have multiple partners, you have to ramp all of that up. Your communication has to be stellar or feeling get hurt more easily than normal relationships.

(I had to put this down for a sec because I got real heated...)

Look, relationships of all flavors are hard. They require work. They have their ups and downs. None of them are cookie-cutter or one-size-fits-all.

I'm mad at people for seeing a fic with a poly relationship as "lazy writing," but I'm even more mad at the fact that, as a writer, you would call something written by another lazy. Writing is hard, no matter what genre, relationship style, or whatever [insert details here bc my brain has stopped working] you write for! Can we all just agree on that?

So, to the fanfic writers out there, if anyone has called any of your work lazy, fuck them. You poured your time, effort, and soul into your work. The people that read your work can see it and appreciate it. And if you need me to, I will go all fucking mama bear on anyone that says otherwise! I will put the verbal beatdown on some fools that wanna start shit! If you need support in any way, whether it's someone to talk to or help editing or someone to bounce an idea off of or just to chat and brighten your day a bit, please know I'm here. I love scrolling through my dash and seeing all of the new fits suggested to me. I have probably about 100 of them bookmarked at the moment, and I plan to read all of them. Please keep writing, and tell the haters to fuck off.

And, finally, to all the critics and haters previously mentioned, fuck you. If you're a writer calling others lazy, go fuck yourself. If you're a reader calling someone's writing lazy, write it better if you can. If not, go fuck yourself. And if you're just a troll looking for a fight, you are so not a vibe, you are hereby cancelled, and you can kindly go fuck yourself.
