Finally got around to writing the Apollo fic I'd planned on. The lore is long and convoluted, but I'm in too deep, and this is probably about to become a series.

Anyway, here's an excerpt:

“Oh dear,” the voice coos, resonant and girlishly gentle. “Hera will not touch you here.” It is a pitiful reassurance. There are few who can truly stop her, and none who would do so, not even Zeus. Especially not Zeus. Not when he is father and infidel all at once, a lover to a titan and a traitor to his wife. “You do not need Zeus. I am here.” “He sent Boreas to help me,” Leto says, outraged and defensive, still in love. The island laughs. It is a bitter thing, born of sorrow and hysteria. Leto puts her hand over her swelling belly, frightened at the change. “Oh sister,” it croons again, “do you not know?” Know what? Leto knows nothing, has known nothing save rejection and pain, and miles and miles of land passing beneath her weary feet, none of it a place to rest. The wrongness itches in her head, harder to ignore. The air congeals, choking her; a face emerges – as familiar as her own. The woman bends towards her, titaness and island all at once. Her skin, dark as Nyx’s dread night, is dotted with stars, her eyes glow bright and cold. Leto gapes, horrified. “Asteria…?” “She comes.” Asteria touches her chest and Leto wakes up gasping.

Oh, too many.  One category I have a special love for  is Ukrainian treasure lore. 

Ukrainian steppe, being a land of Cossacks and nomads, has many a story of hidden treasures. What most of them have in common is protection. The place can protect itself, there can be a spirit or a demon guarding it, or one may have to follow certain conditions in order to gain the riches.

Once upon a time, in a steppe, there was a mill, and a man was a miller in it. One dark night a very old man came to that miller, and said:

- Look, there in the distance is a fire. It is a hidden treasure, you should go and take it. 

The miller was afraid; seeing this, the old man spoke again: 

- If you are afraid, let us go there together. 

So they went together towards the fire. The moment the miller touched it, coins rained from the flames! The man gathered the gold into a sack and brought it back to the mill, and the old man warned him not to spend a coin for three years, - and vanished into thin air. 

A year passed; after that the milled forgot the old man’s words, started bragging about his riches, and even bought a cow. Suddenly, he started fearing for the treasure. He hid it in his barn under a pile of chaff. After a while the man went to check on the gold, and found a large viper resting on it. 

After that the miller got sick. Some old man nobody knew would come to his house, too - he would sit for a bit, looking around as if searching for something, and leave without saying a word to anyone. The miller remained ill, and soon died.

Your astral self is reminds me of Saber from Fate/Stay Night. They have blonde hair, tall, slender, pale skin and red eyes.They have a sword to protect them as well an armor and shield. Very old fashion type. They are in “fight or defend” mode and it almost feels like when you play a game and the character gets in their fighting position. Not much else I’m getting.

a  general  run  down  of  asteria’s  bio.  not  because  i  don’t  have  info  on  my  doc  but  what’s  there  is  more   ...  poetic ?  this  is  the  nitty ,  gritty.

she considers her specific age to be ‘old as dirt’. and that’s exactly what she tells people when they ask. she only looks about 27-33, so nobody ever really believes her. however, a bitch is closer to 700.

full blooded witch. in that sense, she’s nothing special. she was born into witch royalty. raised to be the next great leader of her coven. her parents went to great lengths to secure her a prosperous marriage. one that would put an end to one of the great magical wars. but she ruined that when she “accidentally” set her fiancee on fire.

long story short, her antics ended up making the war even worse. and it wasn’t the first time she had provoked the war. been the cause of more bloodshed by what she called harmless, childhood pranks. (seriously, what’s the harm in turning someone’s hair to snakes? it worked for medusa.) and after long, careful deliberation by the council, she was shunned from her coven.

at the tender age of 14, she’s on her own. living on the streets. doing all she can do to survive. by the time she’s 18, she’s got it down. until a group of hunters catch wind of her and set to burn her to the ground. in swoops a Boy to save her life.

they spend 4-5 years happily in love. but nothing lasts forever. the hunters are able to track her down Again. but this time, they go for her love first. only to add insult to injury. she doesn’t take this well, at all. she kind of snaps. and their death is not pretty.

not being able to handle his death,  she makes a deal with a demon to bring him back. but she has to offer up her soul. and bc her soul is tied to her magic / the earth, she has to perform a spell to vacate it. the spell goes wrong. the demon dips. and she ends up with half a soul. and she’s just… nasty and violent. she tries desperately to cling to the softness she once had but, it doesn’t work. she’s prone to these horrible moments of hysteria where all she does is kill everyone in sight, same as she did the night she lost him.

being ‘immortal’ doesn’t bother her. she’s pretty sure she could figure out a way to die / could be killed if someone Really made an effort. which is part of the reason why she is such an asshole to people. she wants to test their limits, as well as her own. see how far she can push them and if she pushes just enough if they have what it takes to end her life.
