A few highlights from 2020 - 2021, sketchy portraits of animals from the Black Creek Group. Largely outdated, but some may still see use.

Missouri might be a terrible place, what with the extreme and wildly unpredictable weather patterns, corrupt and sometimes literally criminal state politics, including Republicans routinely fucking over their constituents by slapping down democratically-passed progressive legislation, the high tax rates and below-average wages, the long and damning history of racism and discrimination, the deliberate sabotage of public education and healthcare, the COVID-19 case spikes that’re among the worst in the nation, and also Mormons, but at least I live in one of 14 states in the union that has an official state dinosaur.

hows everybody here feleing ab the missouriensis parrasourus now known as the hypsibema missouriensis
The name “Utahraptor” always makes me feel as though I’m living in a world where each American state has its own raptor species. I want to see what a Connecticutraptor looks like.

Hypsibema crassicauda, H. missouriensis

Name: Hypsibema crassicauda, H. missouriensis
Name Meaning: High Step
First Described: 1869
Described By: Cope
Classification: Dinosauria, Ornithischia, Genasauria, Neornithischia, Cerapoda, Ornithopoda, Iguanodontia, Dryomorpha, Ankylopollexia, Styracosterna, Hadrosauriformes, Hadrosauroidea, Hadrosauridae
Hypsibema is a Hadrosauroid (potentially Hadrosaurid) that is mainly famous because it is the state fossil of Missouri, a state where fossils are certainly few and far between, as Hypsibema is based on very fragmentary and partial material. It, like many early described dinosaur genera, has two species for some reason. H. missouriensis was found in Bollinger County, Missouri, specifically the Ripley Formation; where as H. crassicauda was found in North Carolina. They lived in the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous, approximately between 83 and 72 million years ago. Bothare only based off of some vertebrae.
