IDK if anyone will care about this but I've spent so much time thinking about wardrobe so here's some popular 90s clothes and brands I think Stu would have worn

One of those hypercolour shirts that change colour with different temperatures

guilt: What is your OC guilty about? How do they handle their guilt? Do they try to avoid guilt, or do they accept it?

Lisbeth feels really, really guilty about letting Amelia wander off after she found the weird bag with all that paper in it, because in her mind thats the moment things went all wrong.

she tends to try and avoid all her guilt, but it effect her so much, and because of it she's often a really smothering prescence to anyone shes grown properly attached to, often refusing to let them go out of her sight for days, or, on a couple notable occasions, weeks, at a time.

fear: What is your OC's greatest fear? What do they do when confronted with it? Are they open with their fear, or do they hide it away?

Breach is terrified of going back to level 404, as much as it belongs there. it dosent know what the consoquences of going back are, but it knows for a fact that it will not be leaving again. and it knows it will hurt.

if Breach was ever confronted with the possibility of going back, it would likely shut down and then send the surrounding enviroment into hypercolour, before fleeing. it's not looking like anything remotely resembling humanity for at least a few days.

Breach dosen't really talk about it's fears much with anyone besides the umbrella quad, and even if it did have the chance to form a closer bond with someone, it would take multiple years before they would be willing to be that vunerable with them.

secret: What's one secret your OC never wants anyone to know about them?

Breach will never willingly tell anyone about what happened to make it hate a-sync. it'd be most comfortable with the umbrella quad finding out, but would much rather that that tearing pain stay hidden.

I’m starting to think that describing my work to myself on a conceptual level is maybe not the right way to go...

The thought was that if I had a clear view of the mechanics of the story, I could then layer over it the details, the dialogue, imagery and symbolism.

But all writing is equivalent in that it means what it says: if I describe an idea, I merely have a description of the idea and not the idea itself; if I describe something metaphorically, then its meanings are multitudinous... it suggests to me that layering meaning into fiction is a more complicated process than I assumed. It isn’t like I can construct an undercarriage for this work and then write the actual work over it, or maybe I can but is that extra work necessary?

Perhaps it is good to have a sense of the narrative arc, but the real meat of it for me is in the details of the present moment, scene and dialogue, and that is what I am struggling the most with these days.

I turned to the conceptual in order to escape what I felt was a blockage in the sensory/dramatic - it is easier to write about my ideas than to write my ideas into images, dialogue, and scenes...

Ultimately, it was about capturing the sense of what I want from this story, to use as a motivator. And then questioning do I want the right thing? See, if I want to write the best possible version of this book, I first have to know what that is, so my desire shifts from the ideal of the book itself to the desire for more information, to know what is the optimal form/object of desire.

I had an easier time writing this story back when I thought I was nobody; I wanted to disappear behind the world I created. But since I transitioned, my relation to the world has changed and I’m less keen about disappearing. It became less about drowning an uncomfortable reality under hypercolour fiction and more about speaking to and around reality... I think this is a better goal overall but it comes with the responsibility to seriously consider how the fiction interacts with the real world.
