Soooo I feel like people are going to want to praise this as like the best TV show that’s ever been made just because it has Markiplier, so I want to get my opinion out now. Spoilers ahead

Edge of Sleep (TV) is fucking terrible

I mean, I watched it because I want Mark to be successful, but holy shit. That was the worst TV show I have ever willingly watched.

The pilot is fucking atrocious. The writing was abysmal to the point of being embarrassed that the actors had to perform it.

Mark in the first episode…not good. Middle section was okay to good. Final episode was bananas but the acting was good.

Not a single human person has ever acted the way some of these characters act. There is not a planet where the character of Dave and the character of Matteo, as we see them for the rest of the show, would make the choice to randomly abandon their jobs. I have no idea what age the show thinks any of the characters are. They talk about the party at the beginning like they are a max of 25, but then the rest of the show makes them out to be in their 30s.

Thinking about anything that occurs for a single moment makes your head hurt. They are pictured to be in a pretty big city. Yet Linda says they have ONE hospital in 30 miles. Also thousands and thousands of people work night shift, so the idea that there are 5 survivors, 3 of whom know each other, is the wackiest shit of all time. They hype up the medication and then that comes to literally nothing but renewal bait, and I guarantee this will not be renewed even if it reaches no. 1

Everything that comes out of Dave/Mark’s mouth about the “elephant monster” and “dream people” is goofy as fuck (not his fault). They seriously couldn’t come up with a better name? Seriously?? Even just “The Elephant” would’ve been better. Why the fuck did they make them fly to an island 17 hours away??? First, a private jet that small would under no circumstance be able to do that flight without refueling. But like, WRITERS YOU CONTROL THE SCRIPT MY GUYS. If you are gonna make up a mystical island, have it be randomly off the west coast or something. I also can say with 100% certainty that Matteo being a veteran was added at the absolute last minute. It does not jive with literally anything else about his character. They only added it because they needed a reason someone would know how to fly a plane.

Just imagine trying to pitch this show!

“Hey Boss, great tv show concept for you. So this guy Dave, he has really bad nightmares. Everyone around him starts dying from going to sleep. So he goes to sleep to commune with the dream people and talk about the elephant man who’s haunting him. This leads him and 4 other survivors to take a private jet 17 hours away after 50 hours of not sleeping. After his psychic battle with the elephant monster, it’s revealed he’s a chosen one to fight in the battle against the nightmare monsters.”

HOW ON EARTH DID THIS GET GREENLIT??

My final negative note is everyone’s names. Dave, Ruth, Linda, Matteo, and Katie. It feels like they put in stock names and forgot to change them. I do not know a single person under the age of 40 who is a “Dave” or a “Ruth”, certainly not a “Linda.” It just soundsweird. Each name on its own is fine, but all together they sound very cookie cutter

Okay my couple of positives

I thought the dynamic between Katie and Dave was good. I wish Katie got more of a personality than recovering addict, but her actress, Lio Tipton, did a great job.

Eve Harlow as Linda was probably the standout of the film acting wise. She was pretty believable all things considered.

I thought some of the visuals were really cool, and the little pill mascot was well animated.

I wish I could give more praise to Mark but he got the REALLY short end of the stick when it came to the script. He was stuck with most of the clunky exposition. His physical acting was really fantastic and he should be proud of that. His acting ticks are great. If he didn’t have to deliver the script, his acting performance in here would be on par with Eve Harlow.

Edit: Adding a little note that I completely forgot this was a podcast first. I have never watched it but I will ASAP because I want to see if it’s any better.

Connor and Lio hyping them up

In Lio and Savannah’s condo, four adults sit in the living room, getting ready for the latest and greatest fashion show as presented by the Wood and Meier children. Pump up music plays through the sound bar from DJ Woody. Savannah and Lucie settle into their front row seats with a glass of wine. The fashion show director, Sir Lio Meier, is standing with his wooden spoon microphone, slapping it against his palm.

“The show will begin in 30 seconds.. 29 seconds… 28 seconds…” Lucie starts to laugh at his robotic count down. Her and Savannah share a look before Savannah starts digging in her pocket for her phone. She pulls it out, flipping through her apps to get to her camera.

“Ma’am… MA’AM!” Lio directs at his wife. Connor pauses the music. “Hold girls.” Lio calls to the giggling children in the hallway.

“What?” Savannah asks, looking over at Lucie with confusion.

“Can you put your phone down? This is a closed show.”

“Oh, I just want to take pict-”

“No ma’am. Not allowed.” 

“Lio….” Savannah laughs. “You’re kidding?”

“I am not. This is confidential.”

“Oh my god.” Savannah mutters, making a show of clicking her phone off and putting it to the side.

“I don’t know. She doesn’t look trustworthy. You better grab that.” Connor interjects.

“Con!” 

“Ten! Nine! Eight!” Stella begins to yell into Gracie’s karaoke machine. She has been dubbed the MC for the night. All the adults in the room shudder at the high pitch. Connor reaches over, turning it down about four turns. “Uncle Lee go sit down!” Stella demands. Lio crawls over to his wife’s legs, tossing an arm over her knees. Savannah rests her hand on his opposite shoulder, leaning down to his ear.

“Sass me again and see what happens.” She says while kissing his cheek.

“Will do.” He murmurs back with a smirk.

The music changes to a TV show’s opening theme song that Stella is in love with right now. It’s a bop and has everyone’s heads jiving in rhythm as Winnie and Gracie come rounding out from the hallway.

“Winnie! Gracie! Winnie! Gracie!” Connor mimics like he is a photographer.

“Oh! Oh! He can have his phone!?” Savannah slaps Lio’s shoulder.

“He is a professional. Ma’am, don’t make me ask you to leave.” Lio quips. Lucie howls with laughter, clapping as Connor gets on his stomach and moves his phone in various wild angles while the flash goes off with each awful picture.

“Over here! Strike a pose!” Connor calls. 

The girls both pop a hip, trying to keep serious faces that turn into squinty eyes and pursed lips. 

“We call this princess high fashion! So chic. So glamorous! Absolutely gorgeous colors coming to a store near you!” Stella shrills into her microphone. “Go change!” Stella yell-whispers at Winnie and Gracie, who then scurry from the room, holding hands, laughing the whole way down to Winnie’s room. 

“Stelly, why aren��t your participating?” Lucie asks.

“I’m too old for this.” She rolls her eyes. She may be too old for dressing up, but Lucie is thankful she isn’t too old to participate in a different way.

“Okay, okay!” Stella yells when Winnie waves her hand out. “Next up, our final look, is Sporty WAG era.” 

“WAG!?!” Savannah shrieks with laughter.

Sure enough, Gracie comes dressed out in one of her mom’s blazers with her hair in a sloppy bun Winnie obviously threw together and Lio’s cell phone in her hand. 

“I can’t. Lio has hockey!” She shouts into the phone while stepping cautiously in the high heels from her mom’s closet.

Winnie comes out in one of the old Devils WAG jackets, feet stuffed in Lucie’s Nike she wore over here while clutching two stuffed animals. 

“Babies! Let’s go see daddy at the glass!”

“Awwww!!!!!” Lucie giggles. “Baby come here!!” Lucie opens her arms.

“Hey! No touching the models!” Lio laughs, trying to intersect. 

“Prevent me from hugging my kid and I will end you.” Lucie growls playfully, then snatches Winnie up into her lap. She smothers her face with smooches. Gracie hops over to Savannah and Lio, diving into their open arms. 

“Did I do good!?” Gracie yelps out excitedly.

“Perfect, baby. Did you have fun?” Lio asks. She nods excitedly.

“I’m gonna be a model when I grow up!”

“Ah yes… how full circle would that be for your daddy.” Lucie jokes.

“Yeah, kinda like your captain kink?” 

“Ah!” Lucie yells, hiding her face in Winnie’s bun. “Fine you win.”

7 movies 7 tags!!!

I got tagged by @toadstool32 hi tiny! When I first saw this I was thinking Wow i have Never seen a movie in my life but I've had several hours to marinate and I've dug up some memories

The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T (1953) - This is the most recent movie I watched, it does show its age in like. The casual racism in the supporting cast but otherwise it was very charming and very fun.

Super Mario Bros. (1993) - I unironically love this movie it's so fun I want to play in this space I want to explore this worlddddddd. Also they destroy the twin towers

Promare (2019) - That shit was SO HYPE and very stupid but it knows what it is and it is so fun as a result. Embrace it! Also fun fact for about a year before I actually watched it I somehow thought both Lio AND Galo were girls. I think he/him lesbians Lio and Galo would rule actually just make sure not to change anything else about them

Watership Down (1978) - I love bunny war. As far as animals fiction goes this is really up there it's top notch stuff. I actually did go back and read the book after watching it the first time and I love it a lot

The Thing (1982) - I watched it for Bakura reasons you have to understand the Bakura thought process yourself though. Also for Jed the Best Dog. I liked it! I'm glad to have watched it. I cannot watch it again.

Joshua and the Promised Land (2003) - So if you want to see a movie based on a biblical story. Don't watch this one. Genuine props to the guy for making this thing almost entirely on his own but idk maybe watch veggie tales or something

Fly Me to the Saitama (2019) - This thing is so fucking funny but I think the bulk of the humor is completely un-localizable idk the entire premise is a whole bunch of petty interprefecture drama played up for laughs. Also I didn't know it had yaoi when I watched it blind with my mom. SHE knew it was yaoi. Can you give me a heads up so I don't have to play the "IS MY PARENT COOL WITH THIS" roulette

New Japan Cup final preview

David Finlay vs. SANADA - This is the final match of the 2023 New Japan Cup tournament. There is no time limit; there must be a winner. Whoever wins will receive a big trophy and earn a title shot on April 8 against IWGP world heavyweight champion Kauzchika Okada.

Finlay qualified by defeating Tomohiro Ishii, Great-O-Khan, Shota Umino, and NEVER champion Tama Tonga. Sanada got here with wins over Taichi, STRONG champion KENTA, Tetsuya Naito, and Mark Davis. As far as I can tell, these two have never met in a one-on-one match before.

What really makes this match so hype is that both men made shocking changes in their allegiances during the tournament. Finlay showed up for his first-round match with Gedo's endorsement as the new top guy in Bullet Club. In the quarterfinals, Sanada defected from Los Ingobernables de Japon to Taichi's faction, which is now Just Five Guys. Either of those angles would set up a big push that demands a tournament win and a title chase. But they can't both win the cup, so something's gotta give.

It's super hard to pick a winner here. I've been impatient waiting for each of these guys to get off the treadmill and actually move forward in their careers. It'd be huge for Finlay to suddenly go, in the span of a year from also-ran tag team guy to getting his first crack at Okada. It'd also be huge if Sanada finally overcame the long-simmering "Okada has his number" storyline, and chip away at his 1-8 record against the champ when the gold is on the line. I guess if I had to pick one of those stories to save for later, it'd be Sanada's. But seeing either of them choke right now is going to be tough. I'll go with Finlay to win, but this one could easily go either way.

Hiromu Takahashi vs. Lio Rush - Takahashi is defending the IWGP junior heavyweight title. Lio would be the first American champion 2012, and I believe he'd be the first ever Black titleholder. Oh, also Rush is from the Washington, DC, area, and New Japan is doing a show there on April 15, so that'd be cool if he could bring the belt to that event.

Hiromu is basically a cat and he is ecstatic that Lio is all quick and agile like another cat, so we've got ourselves a real cat battle. Big kitty cats slappin', uh, toebeans, I guess. This should be pretty crazy to watch. Hiromu likened his opponent to Will Ospreay, hearkening back to their epic rivalry, which is a mighty tall order. I sure hope they can live up to that.

I'm not convinced New Japan will do the obvious thing and put the belt on Rush for the show in his hometown. They're not dicks who would never do that, but they're also not Santa Claus doing nice things like that all the time. But if you ask me the junior division needs a little shaking up so I'm 100% down with making Lio Rush the man to beat for a while.

Kazuchika Okada & YOSHI-HASHI & Hirooki Goto vs. Mark Davis & Kyle Fletcher & Jeff Cobb - They're clearly setting up Bishamon (Yoshi/Goto) vs. Aussie Open (Davis/Fletcher) for the IWGP tag title. Fletcher pinned Yoshi during the tournament but then got eliminated by Goto, so that's kind of a wash. I'd have the Aussies pin one of the champs here to properly set up the title bout.

Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito vs. Aaron Henare & Great-O-Khan - Henare eliminated Shingo from the New Japan Cup in pretty big upset, so now he's gunning for Shingo's KOPW championship. I'm not even sure what the direction is for Naito (which is surprising) or Khan (which is not that surprising). I guess Takagi pins Khan here? Maybe?

Ren Narita & El Desperado & Toru Yano & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. EVIL & SHO & Yujiro Takahashi & Dick Togo - In February Narita, Despy, and Minoru Suzuki won the NEVER trios titles from Evil, Sho, and Yujiro. My hunch is that they're going to do a rematch, seeing as Evil eliminated Narita from the New Japan Cup. I'm not sure why Suzuki isn't in this match. If Narita's team can beat House of Torture here, I think that'll finally end the feud, but I get the feeling it's not over, so I'm picking House of Torture to ruin everyone's day.

Tama Tonga & Tomohiro Ishii & Tomoaki Honma vs. KENTA & El Phantasmo & Chase Owens - I though they were setting up Kenta vs. Ishii for the STRONG title, but apparently Minoru Suzuki is Kenta's next challenger. So now I'm not even sure why this match is booked. Maybe somebody on the Bullet Club side will challenge Tama for the NEVER title? Unless Finlay loses in the main event and settles for chasing Tama, I guess. No idea what happens here.

Zack Sabre Jr. & Kosei Fujita vs. Shota Umino & Ryohei Oiwa - Shota beat Sabre in the New Japan Cup, so they should be doing a match for the television title soon. Oiwa will probably lose here.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & Yuto Nakashima vs. Taichi & DOUKI - Oh man, I totally forgot Douki was in Taichi's new group. You'd think with a name like Just Four Five Guys I wouldn't lose track of how many guys are in it. Nakashima is a young boy so he really out to lose the match, unless they think Douki is a total joke, and actually that may be what they think really.

Anyways w Cinnyx I've dumped pretty much everything I can w them lmao and it's kinda ironic that Nyxper isn't getting as much development (though POE as a whole hasn't gotten much updates lately), I do have the temptation to recreate their dynamic through other chars thou but that's a thing for another day

Onto the real question lol, ngl literally a while ago I thought abt Lio and Truffs lmaooo, it's actually on my mind quite a lot as an alt ship considering it is pretty much a Cindy/Nyx equivalent esp when considering the Lio + Cindy and Truffs + Nyx parallels, essentially the protagonist ™ x the first of the ancient wretched bloodline that chooses their own destiny, and said ancient bloodline is what the protagonist eventually defeats in the end so there's some sorta cinematic poetry to be found here, and w Truffs being Lio's first friend throughout their journey in the main arc it only makes sense that there's gonna be ppl that will ship them lmao esp w how friendly Truffs is towards them from the get go, pretty much their No. 1 hype man rlly, though in my head it's still more compelling as a platonic bond but I'm also biased cuz I've always saw them this way lmao, they're best friends in the cliche main guy and the sidekick way but also much more layered ofc, cuz usually the sidekick is played off as comic relief but obviously Truffs is much more than that, in some AU scenario where Jingle refuses to be redeemed and is actually too far gone I can imagine Lio/Truffs to be quite compelling cuz they already have a solid friendship but alas my enemies to lovers suckerass will always have extremely specific tastes lmao a man can only dream

Rei/Truffs is a funny one thou cuz I just knowwww it's the kinda ship that ppl will assume to be canon at a first glance, cuz if sidekick isn't gonna end up w the main guy then sidekick is gonna end up w the girl™ lmao, which is again another overdone trope that I didn't bother w, though the two couldddd have an interesting dynamic as a ship esp w Truffs being very go w the flow and Rei being a stubborn ass lol, unstoppable force and immovable object ordeal but also I feel like they're both unstoppable forces in extremely diff directions they end up butting heads more than they agree on a plan, it's pretty much a common scenario for Truffs to do things onna whim when he feels like it cuz he's known to have spontaneous bursts of energy whilst Rei usually has the one goal™ she's seeking and she will do anything to do the thing without giving way to any other alternatives, basically in a romantic context they rlly aren't gonna work lmao, which is ironic cuz Rin and Jun while being similar in demeanor pair better w each of them cuz Rin whilst seemingly stoic is very free spirited and adventurous at heart that being w Truffs doesn't feel like tying her life down to a single spot, and Jun is literally knownnn for being the meticulous planner of a single thing to the point of overthinking and not executing it except now Rei is gonna steal the plan and execute it flawlessly with no fear in the world lmao

Jingle and Jun is funny in this regard having dumped that previous paragraph cuz Jingle in my head always reeked more like a Truffs core guy, there's a reason they get along so much, this is also why Jingle and Rin were rlly close during their childhood to begin w, and why Jingle butt heads w Rei pretty much during every single encounter in the earlier arcs of the story lmao, Jingle complains abt Jun being too overbearing in a sense and while they care deeply abt each other and actually have a rlly funny ass dynamic when they bicker I can't imagine them being w each other long term esp romantically when they're such total opposites, I know opposites attract™ and many ppl can interpret the bickering as an old married couple thing like a Skyble core thing lol, ig it can work but they will have to compromise a shit load, which is also funny cuz Lio and Jun are actually also very similar except Lio is a lotttttt more lenient when it comes to miniscule things and Jun is the exact mf to hinge on a small detail and never put it down lmao, they need a Pepper to dilute the contrast and funnily enough in my head Jingle/Jun/Pepper is more likely to happen in an AU than pairing any of them individually w each other LMAO, but Pepper is too gay for this shit you will never pry that lesbianism from her cold dead hands, that is unless I trans beam the other two, the rest is up for imagination, you can add Mallow in there too Pepper has at least three limbs + a tail

Tuned into last nights Collision which started off with the Blackpool Combat Club vs TMDK, Lio Rush & Rocky Romero. It was a good match but there was no build and no doubt as to who was going to win. Danielson, Yuta and Claudio don’t even have matches at Forbidden Door for Christs sake so it’s not like this was even building to anything. Since Naito and Moxley are going to fight at the pay per view could they not have had BCC vs LIJ while Mox and Naito watched on? Anywho the big story coming out of the match was afterwards Moxley got on the mic and cut a promo with a big booger on his nose. The referee at ringside signalled to Claudio Castagnoli to alert him about the booger and Claudio reached over, picked the bugger off Moxley’s nose and wiped it on his own tights. Now that’s friendship. I won’t sit in a chair after Kevin Craggs has sat in it much less pic  as it off his nose and use my own clothes as a hankie. I have to say I’m really not that hyped for Forbidden Door this year, it already feels like they’re just doing it because it’s that time of the year rather than because there’s potential for big time storylines and to generate a lot of interest in the company. I think the major reason why the pay per view feels pointless is because most of the big former New Japan names are now IN AEW so it feels like it’s the big AEW names and the big former NJPW guys vs what’s left of the NJPW roster.
