I can’t believe I had my emergency hydrocephalus vp shunt surgery number 2 Newley 5 years ago now seems like yesterday still haunts my memory. Blacked out for 3 days didn’t eat didn’t drink slept day and night until we realised something wasn’t right. My shunt from birth had blocked and my brain was full of fluid. By the time I arrived to hospital on day 3 I was dying according to doctors and they said if I didn’t come in when I did I would of been dead the next day and that just scares me. It started off as a migrain I have had before can’t stand without throwing up head throbbing so hard you want to pass out you need total darkness. No panadole or any meds will work… I was like that for 3 days but didn’t know it was 3 days. So I had to have emergency surgery and they were not sure I was going to make it and if I did make it I might come out disabled well I showed them. I came out alive knew everyone’s name still no loss besides some memory and my handwriting was actually better? So have had 2 surgery in my life time for hydrocephalus. I hope I won’t need anymore in my life time but my head sure does remind me that it can happen at any time. #hydocephalus #hydrocephalusawareness #hydrocephaluswarrior #vpshunt #vpshuntsurgery #vpshuntlife #melbourne #australia #blogger #scar #stvincenthospital thank you @stvincentsmelbourne for saving my life in 2018 without you I wouldn’t be here today (at Camberwell, Victoria) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn_7_x9PYMs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

NIKA NEEDS HELP
I work for an animal shelter which helps disabled animals and we have a new kitten in our care, Nika. And she needs help.
When you look at Nika you immediately know something is different. Vet first diagnosed her with Hydrocephalus, which means she has only 20% of brain and rest is cerebrospinal fluid.  However, a second veterinarian (an expert for hydocephalus) is suspecting that she might not be suffering from hydrocephalus at all, but that her condition is remnant of Feline panleukopenia which she might have suffered before.
This vet needs to do two MRI scans, which costs 40 000 KČ (about 1841 $ ). And in case hydrocephalus is confirmed, she will need a surgery which would cost around 50 000 KČ (about 2 300   $ )
Aside from having only 20% of her brain, Nika is a perfectly normal kitten and with help, her chances of survival are very high. She loves playing, cuddling, naps, and eating like any other cat. After being healed she will be up for adoption like all of our animals. You can watch a video of Nika being super adorable here! If would you like to help us raise money for Nika you can donate to paypal  [email protected] with a note “Nika” or  bank account 2500405636 / 2010, VS 1716. Every dollar helps. And even if you cannot send money please consider reblogging. She will need to get her MRI next month.
If you want more information about animals in handipet rescue we have a english FB page or main czech FB page.
Thank you all.
I recently made a KOFI for the shelter!  Just please add note that you are sending for Nika :)

Something I have never mentioned once on here is that I have a neurological disorder called Hydocephalus. Basically it’s too much fluid by the brain when you’re born. And I lucked out with all the symptoms, like really it’s only ever caused a major problem.
Basically the thing that you do to drain that fluid s that a small plastic tube has to get put into your body, leading from your brain to your abdomen.
In third grade, it knotted at the bottom, but we had no way of knowing that. So when my parents and I were none the wiser, I got crippling headaches and abdomen pain. I could barely focus in school, and by 6pm every night I would be near doubled over in pain from what I thought was just extremely bad gas. And it happened so often that after a while, the school nurse basically thought (and told me to my face once) that I was lying. Granted she had no way of finding out what was going on, but because I just had those constant symptoms fuck me, right? I’m a shy, nerdy third grader who has nothing else better to do with my life than skip class. Like, on three separate occasions, maybe the three before we found out the actual problem, I would walk in and she’d snap at me and tell me not to bother, get out of the office, go back to class.
We found out the shunt was knotted, and got a surgery to de-knot it. I had to be out of school for two weeks. So I got a shitload of “feel better soon” stuff from teachers and classmates and friends.
I just went through some of that this year, now what, 16 years later? I waded through like, two big boxes of the “get well soon” nonsense. And, mind you, I have never seen this one before/if I did somehow I forgot about it, but that nurse was one of the people who sent me a card, ending with some “can’t wait to have you back in school” bullshit.
Yeah, I’ll bet you did, you fucking bitch. I hope you still remember me, my situation and you at least learned that maybe you’re not right all the time and if someone has repeat symptoms there might be a way bigger issue.
