“Oh jeez,” Shelby exclaims, “Not again, let's get you guys inside.” She leads the others into her house through the rain where she explains the situation to Shrub and Katherine.”

A Superhero AU of Empires SMP/Hermitcraft/The Life Series

Lizzie climbs up the fire escape on an apartment building in her new and improved vigilante outfit. She reaches the top of the building and climbs onto the roof, she pushes herself into a standing position and sees someone flying around the city towards the GFHA headquarters. “Weird…”

She starts heading over to the building and sees someone darting through the alley way below her. She dashes over to the edge of the roof and uses the glider sewed into her outfit to get down safely. Quietly landing on the ground next to the person she takes in their details. White hair, red and black sweater, light green overalls, a deer mutant, holding a staff so they’re likely a witch. These features all feel very familiar, she lightly places her hand on the person's shoulder. Since they’re an animal mutant there’s a chance that Lizzie could read their mind. Within a second they see who this person is, “Hi Gem!” Lizzie shouts.

Gem jumps and screams something that Lizzie doesn't catch however she does end up frozen in place. Just work your way out of it, she just has to figure out a solution. Her mind control powers could work but she’s frozen and can’t do anything. Gem looks down at her, “How do you know who I am?” Lizzie rolls her eyes as if to say she can’t talk, “Right…” Gem says and releases the spell.

Lizzie looks at her, “My one power is mind controlling animal mutants and hybrids, and to some extent if I get close enough to them I can read their minds. So,” she explains, “I essentially was able to tell that you’re Gem, or as you’re currently calling yourself, Slay.”

“Okay…”

“So,” asks another person from a nearby roof, “What exactly are you two doing out tonight?” Lizzie looks up and sees The Time Witch standing on the roof with their wand in hand.

“I saw someone flying to the GFHA headquarters while on patrol,” she says, “I was going to go check it out but then I found Gem.”

Gem glares at Lizzie, “Stop revealing my secret identity!” She yells, “that’s private information.” 

Lizzie giggles, “No.” 

The Time Witch sighs, “Good to know who you two are, by the way have either of you guys seen The Red Witch?” 

Lizzie shakes her head while Gem nods. “I’m out tonight because I’m pretty sure she’s trying to infect Cuteguy with her weird mushroom again…” she sighs,”I- I know who she is…”

“I was gonna debut as the newest hero soon when we got her in custody. I had Hotguy leave the room and I questioned her but then she stopped answering… I used a spell to make her tell me the truth… when I removed it she broke out of her prison and I got a nasty cut on the forehead…”

“I wasn’t happy with what I’d done so I stitched myself up and used a spell to remove myself from the GFHA database, and to learn who the others are-“ Her next words can’t be heard over the sound of an explosion in the distance.

The Red Witch lunges at Cuteguy while throwing off an avian who keeps cursing at her. Behind them Mycelium frantically tries to put together a mushroom spell while Psudoshroom and Story hold off Lazy Cat and Bard, who just arrived at the scene. Cuteguy tumbles out of the way and Scar stands in a dark corner watching. He doesn’t quite understand what’s happening, he’d just been outside getting some fresh air when Cuteguy had shown up to talk to him but then they got stuck in mycelium together and the next thing he knows The Red Witch shows up.

In his panic he’d ended up standing as still as possible in a corner. He tentatively pulls out his bow and starts firing arrows at The Red Witch, out of the corner of his eye Scar sees an avian land on a nearby roof and starts firing their own arrows at Mycelium and Psudoshroom. He watches as one of the arrows pierces Mycelium’s shoulder and they slump to the ground. Soon after,  Psudoshroom sweeps Lazy Cat’s legs from under them and tires them down with mycelium threads.

Scar turns his attention back to The Red Witch and Cuteguy who dodges a blow from the witch and ducks even lowers as the mushroom spell thing is thrown to The Red Witch and lands in her hands. Scar realizes what’s going to happen and fires a regular arrow through one of The Red Witch’s wings. He runs over to Cuteguy and frantically tells him that they need to leave. Cuteguy holds onto Scar and flies them both down into the alley between two random buildings where they see three people dash away into the distance.

Scar stares at the avian in front of him as his ears tune out the sounds of the battle on the roof next to them, “Cuteguy are you okay.”

The man nods slowly, “I’ll be fine… Hotguy there’s something I need to tell you.”

He nods frantically but doesn’t really pay attention, “Yep! Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep! I’m sure it’s important but it can probably wait till later!”

Cuteguy shakes his head, “It really can’t, I- Hotguy you need to know that-“ He’s cut off as a pouch of mushroom and herbs hits his back and he collapses onto the brickwork ground. Scar leans down to try and help while The Red Witch sits and watches it unfold. Cuteguy looks at Scar directly in the eyes, clearly afraid. “I think we both know what this is gonna do…” he says, “You know when I first heard about you I hated your guts, you’re not too bad though.”

Cuteguy grasps Scar’s wrist, “When you were at the Arian Griandae concert I saw you… I feel bad admitting it like this but I know your identity…” he turns and watches mycelium crawl out of the small bagged spell and drops Scar’s hand, “Run Scar…” it spreads further, “Run Scar! Scar run.” So he does, Scar runs away to the only place he thinks can deal with the mushroom spell to the only other witch he knows the location of. Into the woods and to Shelby’s house. He doesn’t look back.

Shelby walks off the well trodden path through the woods she lives in with her sister and girlfriend, she has to find the cave that leads into the mines where the moss in the vial she holds in her purse originated. She’s been doing some tests, sure she’s a witch but science and magic aren’t that different when it comes to basic theory. Her boots slosh in the mud that starts getting thicker and covering more ground the closer she gets to the clearing where the caves start. She’s going to be out for a while, at least four hours if she had to guess, after all the caves go on for hundreds of miles underground. She rounds a clump of trees expecting to be in the clearing but instead finds that the area which used to be a sunny glade is overgrown with giant mushrooms of all types and infested with chickens, Okay that’s odd.

Shelby pulls her scarf over her mouth and nose and pushes through the fungi. When she reaches the entrance of the cave she sees that it's completely blocked with a thick layer of mycelium threads. She pulls out her wand and aims it at the fungal threads, “ᒷ ̇/!¡ꖎ𝙹ᓭ╎𝙹リ! ʖ𝙹𝙹ᒲ!” The threads are blasted to bits and she steps through the flaming remains and into the cave. Cool air hits her face along with a large number of tiny spores. She walks through the cave system, keeping track of where she’s been with a glowing paint line on the wall. 

Eventually the witch ends up at a deepslate gate with a glowing carving of a warden in the center. She pulls out her spellbook and flips to a page on skulk which includes how to enter the ancient cities. Shelby shakes her wand while muttering a spell and it lights up so she can read a part of the passage, “In order to enter the an ancient city insert whatever you use to cast spells into the slot at the center of the gate and cast the spell ‘tenebris aperire’ in enchanter.” She breathes out and starts humming while putting the book away.

Shelby ends the light spell on her wand and slides it into the center of the gate she closes her eyes, “ℸ ̣ ᒷリᒷʖ∷╎ᓭ ᔑ!¡ᒷ∷╎∷ᒷ.” The witch opens her eyes and pulls her wand back right before it would have been broken by the retracting doors. In front of her lies a nearly pitchblack expanse with the shimmering skulk covering the floor and most of the walls. In the distance she can see deepslate buildings rising in front of an ancient portal. She isn’t here for any of that, all she needs is a tiny bit of the strange moss that grows this deep down. She pulls a small vial and an exacto-knife out of her bag and scrapes off a small amount of skulk which she deposits in the vial. She places it in the bag and quietly walks out of the deep dark, closing it off with a spell. 

The witch walks back up through the cave system erasing the line that she’d placed on the wall as she goes. When she reaches the upper levels she can hear rain drumming through the forest. Shebly reenters the main cave and sees the rain coming down through the mushrooms and picking up the spores as it does. She walks to the edge of the cave and holds her wand up to the sky, “⚍ᒲʖ∷ᒷꖎꖎᔑ.” A canopy shoots up and out of it shielding her from the rain that manages to get through the forest canopy. Shelby sloshes through the high mud which soaks her socks as it lands in her boots.

She walks for a little while and can see the lights from her house. As she walks up to it she sees someone in the woods a few feet outside of the opposite side of the clearing. She walks to the other side of the clearing and the person backs up, “Who’s there?” Shelby waves her wand through the air, “ᓭ⍑𝙹∴ ||𝙹⚍∷ᓭᒷꖎ⎓.” Out of the woods emerges a beaten and very shaken up Hotguy along with The Mayor, Slay, and The Time Witch. “What the-” the witch runs over to the group and raises her wand into the air again, “ʖ╎⊣��ᒷ∷ ⚍ᒲʖ∷ᒷꖎꖎᔑ.” An even larger canopy covers the group and Shelby looks at them with confusion. “What happened to you guys?”

Hotguy coughs a bit, “It’s a long story.”

“Not really” The Mayor says while rolling her eyes, “The Red Witch got Cuteguy possessed by a mushroom. Again.” She explains.

What's your inkfish ocs opinions on water, given how wet your AU is? Any of them wish they could swim without getting melted into a pool of goop?

To most Inklings the opinion on water is similar to asking people what their opinions are on hurricanes. But because a lot of my ocs are from different zones theyre all gonna have different opinions.

If you ask an Inkadian their answer would either be “it’s water, whatever!” (Inksports Inklings who have probably fallen in water before during competitions and assume that’s what it’s like ((it’s not))) or “not messing with it” (inklings who have seen floods and have heard or have been affected by them, and understand the danger)

Respawners outside of watered areas(such as salmon run grounds or turf war stages, or even public areas) are extremely well made, they are perfected, a lot of young inklings who fall into the water get swept up so efficiently into the respawner the effects of water damage has zero time to settle in, nowadays Artificial Ink usually gets spat out around respawners, too, usually in Stages / Running Grounds, lessening water damage even more by diluting the water— so many inklings don’t think water is too scary since they don’t understand how quick water damage is if you fall into respawner-less waters.

July’s nervous around water wasted territory in a typical Inkling Fashion. They’re probably so nervous around water they’d splat ankle deep out of sheer anxiety.

Alligator grew up far east, which is primarily flooded farm land so she’s well versed in the wreckage and death that comes with that, so she’s not as afraid around water, she knows what’s dangerous and what isn’t. Alligator is a tad older too, so she grew up in a time where Inklings were still figuring out how to combat homerunning salmonids who would blaze trails through their farmland— and sometimes dig up paths that lead more water into Inkling territory as they seek places to lay eggs. Her family is born her so her skin is naturally tougher, anyway.

Saint grew up in the south-western Salmonid Territory, it’s an awkward ink and water wasted zone that’s pretty lawless due to frequent feuding between salmonids and the inkling clans that live there. Saint— due to growing up along-side salmonids, doesnt fully understand the danger of water, but knows how to be safe around it. Maybe their ease around water-wasted zones makes them seem reckless, I think a bad slip would make them far more skittish— but otherwise they’re safely wrapped up and ready to go.

Fido is an ex-grizzco employee who grew up far east, much like alligator, a farm boy. Half of his family is krakened since they work in water wasted fields that reach knee-deep. So he’s pretty adjusted to the injuries and aches water can leave, he lost his leg at grizzco— surprisingly, not due to falling into water, but years of water damage finally got to him, and his leg collapsed in on itself sometime during a salmon run, and his skin was too damaged to reform. He still works on water fronts but I think that’s just because he has a weird fascination with water now. He likes that he has an excuse not to tread around on water, though, and his boots stay mostly dry on the boat. He’s probably the only one who would wish to go for a swim.

Samah and Valentine— Despite being Inkfish, are Octarian, meaning they are a species who is united with Salmonids. They understand the dangers of water since their brother species is extremely reliant on it, and Octarians have a higher water tolerance, being submerged is dangerous for Octarians, but otherwise— treading through knee or even waist deep water provides no real danger to Octarians unless they get splatted by some other outside force, forcing them to submerge completely.

Of course, Octarians aren’t gonna go for a dive, but they’re not as skittish since they have less to be afraid of. Samah even more so than Valentine, Samah— despite being from the domes as well, is a Salmo-Octarian. They’re not a hybrid species (that’s not possible) but rather a species of Octarian who grew up along side Salmonids. They’re speculated to have a higher water tolerance but there’s no real scientific basis on that statement, chances are they’re just better versed on how to navigate water.

Girl Help I became possessed and wrote over 1000 words for the Viking-Piglin AU I came up with the other day. I don't know how this happened and I'm slightly scared that it will happen again. Enjoy

Part Two

It all started off so simply. Joy was trying to make a potion that would allow her to speak with piglins. She was always needing Nether materials and it would be nice to have the ability to trade again since the villagers still hadn’t forgiven her for the incident that had taken place oh so long ago. It was hopefully in its final stages, she just needed some help testing it. That’s where Legundo, the server’s resident piglin hybrid, came in. She would drink the potion, ask him to say some things in his native tongue and see if it was properly translated. Then, she would say some things and he would let her know what language he heard them in. They both decided it would be best to test this at Joy’s house to keep any mishaps contained since her more customized potions could be a bit wild. It wasn’t until they were walking up the path that Legundo noticed something strange.

“Hey hey hey! Wait a second, did you see that?” Legundo asked as they approached. “Seems you have a bit of a haunted house!” There’s a laugh in his voice as they both stop and peek through the window at what was clearly Viking, rummaging through Joy’s rather unorganized potion collection. 

“Oh! Maybe he needs more fire resistance? The poor guy keeps running out. Maybe he’d be interested in testing my newest potion out with us! I’ll go ask and-”

“Wait!” Legundo stopped walking and put a hand on Joy’s shoulder. He gave her a mischievous grin. “Viking’s always scaring people by just showing up out of nowhere, right? I say we give him a taste of his own medicine! He’s got his back to us right now so as long as we stay quiet and take it slow… Oh yeah, this is gonna be great!”

The two nod at each other and carefully make their way to the door. Legundo took the lead as they snuck through into the sitting room area that had been taken over by Joy’s latest project. Surprisingly, Viking still hadn’t noticed them, too focused on all of the potions that had been haphazardly pushed to the side. Legundo took a deep breath as Joy did her best to stifle her giggling. 

Just as it looked like Viking was going to turn around, Legundo screamed, “BELL NOISES!” causing Viking to jump and let out a high pitched screech, almost seeming to phase out of the physical world for a second.

Legundo and Joy shared a laugh at Viking’s shriek. They were quick to stop when they heard the shattering of glass. The shimmering red cloud that had escaped the potion bottle was instantly drawn towards the phantom, mingling with his semi corporeal form. 

“Guys,” there’s a tremble in Viking’s voice, ”I don’t- Something doesn’t feel riGH- AH!” He’s suddenly clutching his chest as the potion properly takes hold. He grits his teeth, trying to keep from screaming as it suddenly feels like he’s burning from the inside out. His knees give out as tears begin streaming down his face, the only thing keeping him from bashing his head on the floor are the sudden arms around him. He’s not quite sure who caught him, but he doesn’t have it in him to care as he curls into them and screams. The noise tears its way out of his throat as he feels as his spine almost seems to twist. He vaguely thinks he hears someone mention milk and someone else say it’s too dangerous and the thought would almost be funny if his mouth hadn’t just been filled with blood as something forces its way out of his gums. There’s a weird sensation in his chest, like someone has pushed two observers together and set off a piston with them. If he wasn’t in a constant state of almost dead, he’d think it was a heartbeat and that it was dangerously high. His screams reach an impossible volume and the arms around him just hold tighter, seeming to not care how the hand that isn’t glued to his chest is practically clawing into theirs. Through the pain and confusion he thinks he can feel leather, a belt of sorts, thinks he can fit a face to the arms but then the agony crescendos and all he can think is that he’s dying again and he’d never get the answers he was looking for. He thinks someone tells him to breathe. He wants to laugh, say that he’s not needed to do that in a long time, has only been doing it lately to keep the others from freaking out more. His lungs are burning. That can’t be right though because he doesn’t have any, shouldn’t have any. In a haze he sees what he thinks is his hand but it’s not right, it’s a pale but no longer transparent with thicker, almost claw-like nails on the end and that’s not right. He’s not alive, not really so why isn’t he transparent anymore? The burning has stopped but he still feels warmer than he has since he died. That weird pounding is still going on in his chest as well. He sucks in a breath, and then another. Noise starts filtering back to him and he realizes he’d stopped screaming at some point. The chest he’s leaned against rumbles as the person speaks.

“That’s it, just like that. Keep breathing, you’re doing great.” A calm and gentle mantra, the tone almost unfamiliar when coming from Legundo. This close to him and the man almost seems to purr. They’ve started gently swaying, rocking side to side as the tears finally slow. “Hey bud, you seem to be coming back, that’s great.” His voice stays at an almost whisper and he starts rubbing circles on Viking’s back.

On first attempt to speak, all that comes out is a hoarse croak, leaving him coughing until Joy comes over with both a bottle of water and a clearly labeled healing potion. Viking alternates sips of each until he feels like trying again. “G-guys? What just happened-” a cough escapes his throat, making him wince. “What happened to me?” There’s still the weird movement in his chest but it’s slowed, he’s starting to think that it actually is a heartbeat but still doesn’t know why.

“That potion you dropped,” Joy starts, looking nervously around the room, “That was a highly experimental project I was working on. I was calling it a Nether Potion for now. It turns things into their Nether counterpart.” She nods at some crimson roots sitting in the corner. “Those used to be beetroots. It’s been two weeks since I dropped some of that potion on them and there’s been no sign of changing back. I never even thought about what it might do to a person but,” She pauses for a second, looking between him and Legundo, “It seems you two now have some things in common?” She cringes a bit at her attempt to make light of the situation.

“Wha-” before he could finish asking, Legundo cut him off.

“What she’s trying to say is that, you’re a piglin hybrid now. You’re alive again, Viking.”

Once Alt is done describing outside, the others have reached the secret hidden research lab holding Jack. The boys and Zara all come into another tank of water- which seems to be an observatory aquarium facing the lab.

Curled up on the sparse white floor is Anti. He’s lying on top of a few of his tails, idly watching the view into the lab. His ear twitches as he hears people enter and then blinks in surprise at seeing all his brothers. “O-Oh… hey.” He smirks and looks at  reaper Jackie and Henrik. “Did those weird humans get eaten yet? I hope so-“

His eyes then widen as the human-hybrids enter and then they quickly narrow as he bares his fangs. “What the fucking hell?! Is this a joke?! Is this a white suit trick?!” He hisses as his back fin puffs up.

“Anti please- try to stay calm.” Henrik says gently. “It is strange I know but… this is not a trick. We’re trying to help them get home.”

Anti doesn’t seem convinced as he curls up more and growls at them. “How do you know this wasn’t just a-a elaborate plan to get to Jack?! You all just lead them straight here!”

“Cuz we trust them dude!” Mer- Jackie says. Marvin and Chase kinda grumble but Jackie ignores them. “I don’t think they could lie about all this- not even Alterra could make up some of the shit we’ve heard!”

“Look man, if we wanted to get into this place we wouldn’t bother with some fucking elaborate trick,” Jackie says, trying not to snap. “We’d be plenty capable of getting in here without any trickery.”

“I do not think that’s as reassuring as you want it to be,” Schneep mutters, hanging back.

We understand that this is strange, and you don’t have to trust us, JJ says calmly. But we really don’t mean you any harm. If there’s anything we can do or say to prove that, we would.

“As long as you don’t tell us to do something we can’t,” Jackie mutters. He leans to the side. “So… this is some kind of lab space. Or, it is on the other side.”

“Anything interesting?” Schneep asks curiously.

Anti bristles and growls at Jackie, bunching up like he might lash out. But Jamie comes over and shakes his head at him and touches over his heart. This seems to give Anti pause. Then, hearing JJ use the same robot as Jamie has him relaxing even more. But, he still on edge.

Behind Anti and through the glass is the lab space. Seems to be open air at the moment as a couple people in blue and black suits are walking around, typing stuff in on holo screens or checking on the main subject of the room. Which of course is Jack. He seems to be asleep, set mostly upright on a lab table with wires and things tucked under brown armor-like plates on his arms and upper torso. He has 5 similarly armored tails that are submerged in a small tank of water below him. They seem to have glowing bits of blue underneath like suction cups. He seems to have a breathing mask on his face but filled with water that also filters over the gills on his neck.

“Ya wanna prove yourselves to me? Okay- I wanna hear what Jack has to say about this.” Anti growls.

His brothers all balk and look at each other. “Uh… I dunno how that’s gonna happen Anti…” Chase says quietly. “You’re really the only one here that talks to him… r-regularly in your dreams…”

“He’d know if these bitches are a threat or not.” Anti glares at the newcomers. “I’m not letting them near him otherwise.”

“Anti please be reasonable!” Zara tries to say, “We just need to talk to Danan and you know she’s-“

“No!” Anti growls sitting up to spread out his tentacles in a defensive stance. “Don’t get any closer…”

JJ backs up, hands raised. We’ll stay back, he promises. He looks at the others. Won’t we?

Jackie looks up and nods. While this exchange has been going on he’s been describing the lab—and Jack—to Schneep. Now he looks at Anti warily. He doesn’t want to fight him, but if it comes down to it he’ll defend himself.

“Jack… is the one outside of the glass?” Schneep asks slowly. That soul feels strange. Like his Jack, but… there’s something about it. Like the magic he senses in JJ, Alt, and Bro. “A-and he speaks in your dreams? How? A-and… how are you going to get advice from him? You are not asleep.”

“He can hear us,” Anti says eerily. “If he’s as worried as I am… he’ll do something…”

“Like.. what exactly?” Alt says with a raised eyebrow. “Look I-if you let me closer I could talk to him for you- I could go into minds and-!” He attempts to swim a bit closer but Anti snaps his jaws and lunges forward. But not to attack just to keep Alt back. And Alt glitches back and Bro catches him.

“Don’t test me ya fucking fake humans! I’ll tear you to ribbons!” Anti growls. Jamie hugs his neck and tries to hold him back but- Anti is bigger and stronger than him.

Jackie tenses, glaring at Anti, the mandibles on his back instinctively snapping. JJ holds his hands out, a shield starting to form. Schneep backs up, scleras turning black, getting ready to leap out of the way of danger.

However before the situation can get anymore tense- the human-hybrids and Anti feel a sudden pull in their guts- and their eyes fill with cyan. And then… it’s like they’re pulled into sleep and they all sink to the floor as their consciousnesses get pulled somewhere else.

When they open their eyes, they seem to be in the deepest reaches of the ocean- almost pitch black around them. It still feels like water- and they’re still in their hybrid forms. But it also feels… floaty. Like a dream.

And… Schneep finds he can see.

A bit before them is… the hybrid they saw in the lab. But he’s awake now, staring at them with startling bright cyan eyes. He regards them with a neutral expression, tilting his head as he studies them.

“Huh?” Jackie looks around. “What? Huh?! Huh?!”

“W-Woah…” Alt whispers.

“T-The fuck is this place?” Bro asks.

JJ backs up. Is this an illusion?

“Ah!” Schneep presses his hands to his eyes, closing and opening them several times. He expects them to hurt from the sudden influx of imagery… but they don’t. Confused, he looks around.

Alt startles and goes over to Schneep, “A-Are you okay Schneep?”

Bro sees him seemingly looking around and gasps, “Can you see?”

“Oh! I can see! I can see!” Schneep laughs in amazement. 

“What?!” Alt and Bro both shout in delight.

Alt smiles. “This is the mind I guess… like you being able to see in dreams.”

Schneep looks at the others, starting with Alt and Bro. “Oh! I can see the resemblance, but you two look less like my friends than I was picturing.” 

Bro and Alt look at each other then laugh. “It’s the freckles I bet.” Alt snickers.

Then Schneep looks at JJ. “You look very much like my Jamie, though—except for the mouth of course.” Then he looks at Jackie. His eyes widen in shock for a moment. But he doesn’t say anything. He looks down at Jackie’s tail. “Oh—you have a lobster tail.”

“Wh—no I don’t!” Jackie protests.

JJ laughs. Lobster boy.

“Shut up!”

Bro laughs too, “Oh my god! He is a lobster!” Alt hides his laugh behind his hand.

Anti shakes out his head then gasps and spurs up towards Jack, “Jack!!”

The other hybrid smiles at Anti and open his arms and Anti hurries over and gives him a quick hug. Then he seems to protectively hang over Jack’s shoulder as he glares and growls at the visitors.  Jack keeps his face neutral but there’s a bit of warmth radiating from him.

“Sorry to just… pull you in. I didn’t want Anti to hurt you… if you’re as innocent as you claim.” He says with a bit of authority. 

“U-um…” Jackie stares at Jack. It’s a bit… strange… to hear his voice, so similar to the Jack he knows. When was the last time he heard Jack’s voice?

It’s fine, it seemed like an emergency, JJ says. 

Jack tilts his head, “Anti said you were …fake. And… I can sense you are not Alterans but also… so strange… were you really.. human?”

“We were indeed human,” Schneep says. “A-and we can be human again. It is unusual, I know, but it’s true. We mean you no harm. You or any of your family.”

JJ glances around. So… this isn’t an illusion. It must be some sort of… mental landscape.

Jack nods, “Yeah we’re… I dunno exactly where but I have like… telepathy I think it’s called. The hybrid part of me is sea emperor and they have that too… I think the doctors here think I can do a bit more cuz of you know- having a human mind.” He laughs. “It’s weird but… I can talk to people like this… least until they figure out how to wake me up.”

Jack separates himself from Anti, much to the younger brother’s dismay and appears in front of the group in a flash of blue. He studies them closer.

“Alt… Chase… Schneep… JJ and… Jackie huh?” He says slowly looking at all of them. He then smiles and nods. “…yeah I… I think you’re good.”

“What?! You trust them just like that?!” Anti yells.

“Mmm yeah. I can see… bits and pieces of where they come from. This isn’t their home… and it seems like they all have a lot to get back to… family and people they really love.” Jack smiles sadly and holds a hand over his chest. “…I know the feeling…”

Jackie backs up a little as Jack appears closer. “O-oh. You can like—read our minds?” he says. “Can you um—n-not do that? There are things in my brain that I-I don’t want people to see.”

“Not fully,” Jack laughs, answering Jackie, “I just get… feelings and snippets. Flashes of things that are important or like..  really strong feelings. I can talk in the mind more than see it. I won’t pry I promise…”

Jackie lets out a sigh of relief. "I-I know you won't. Still... thanks."

“You’re like… an enchanter almost…” Alt mutters.

Jack blinks, “…I dunno what that word means but… thank you?”

JJ also looks a bit uneasy, but he pushes through that, knowing Jack means no harm. We would very much like to get home, he says. I sort of left my friend waiting.

Jack looks to JJ with sympathy and nods, “Unfortunately me and my brothers don’t have the kinda powers you guys have… but I’m sure my brothers will do what they can to help. Even Anti.”

Anti makes a noise of protest but Jack gives him a look and Anti crosses his arms and grumbles. “…yer sure they’re not with Alterra?””

Jack nods, “I’m sure.”

There’s a beat of silence before Anti groans, “Finneeee!”

JJ laughs a little at Anti's attitude. He can't help but be reminded of his friend. Thank you, Anti. I'm sure there's a lot you could do to help us.

"You know, Jamie, if this is the mind, why are you still signing?" Schneep asks. "Shouldn't you be able to talk if I can see?"

JJ shrugs. I suppose I'm more used to this by now.

"Ah. Well, in any case, thank you, Jack." Schneep nods at him. "Now we have to figure a way out of here."

Jack laughs and shakes his head, “Don’t worry. I got that. It was… nice to meet you all. I wish it could have been in person but… keep my brothers safe if you can, okay?” He smiles sadly and then his eyes turn cyan before the space around the boys turns white.

"Bye Jack!" Jackie shouts, a bit desperately, as the space starts to fade.

"Nice to meet you too," Schneep adds.

Your brothers will help you, I know it, JJ says.

Jack smiles at them all before everything goes white.

Then, they’re back in the lab observatory. Alt shakes himself out and blinks as the merboys have surrounded the passed out visitors.

“Are you guys okay?!” Mer Jackie asks.

Anti pushes himself up and shakes his head out like a dog. Jamie hugs his head with Anti lets him do so begrudgingly.

Schneep blinks. "Ah, back to reality."

"We're okay." Jackie pats himself down. "Jack just wanted a word with us—well, kind of? He wanted Anti to know we were safe to trust."

Which we are! JJ says cheerfully.

Chase's eyes widen. "Y-You talked to Jack??"

"Yeah... and they're all good." Anti sighs.

"Now. Is Danan out here?" Schneep swims up to the wall of the tank, facing out. "I can tell there are people, is she one of them?" Anti lets Schneep pass with a huff. 

At the window, an older black woman with bouncy black hair and bright green eyes is writing notes on her own PDA. She blinks as Schneep comes forward and smiles. She touches a button on her jacket and her voice comes from a speaker on their side. "Oh Henrik I-!" Then, she blinks and takes notice of how different Schneep looks and seems confused.

Jackie chuckles. "I think you've been spotted, Schneep. And she looks really confused."

"Ha! I can imagine." Schneep grins.

"Yeah just- hang on-" Henrik says and goes to push the button for the comms as Alt and Bro come over to meet her. "Hello Danan? Is there a way for you to meet us in here? We have... many things to discuss with you."

Danan looks surprised but then she nods and touches the button again. "Of course. Lemme just get finished up in here."

It takes a few minutes but soon the door to the observatory opens and the woman swims in. She smiles at everyone but she can't hide her surprise. "Oh well! Hello there... I did not know we had so many new people on my base."

JJ waves at Danan. Hello! This must be very surprising. Well you're going to be even more surprised when we tell you where we came from.

"We're not from here," Jackie says. "To the point where we haven't even heard of Alterra. I'm Jackie, this is JJ, Schneep, Alt, and Chase. We're from another universe."

"Nice to meet you!" Schneep waves cheerfully. "The others speak highly of you."

“Do they now?” Danan says with a smirk. “I’m glad my reputation precedes me! Well I’m Dr. Kendra Danan and…I’m sorry did you say another universe?”

“Insane, right?” Zara laughs. “Have you ever heard of traveling to different universes?”

“Well… it was a theory I remember being vaguely interested in for a bit…” Danan says, crossing her arms.  “Alterra was very interested in the possiblity of it off planet but… not here.”

Alt deflates a bit, “Oh well… we were hoping you might know if it’s.. possible to maybe reprogram a… what were they called?”

Marvin’s eyes flicker pink, “Alien Arch.”

“yeah that!”

Danan hums and then thinks. “…I’m not sure we have the tools but..  if they were maybe connected to architect technology somehow…?” She looks at Marvin.

Marvin shakes out himself then looks at Danan with wide eyes. “M-Me?!”

“You are the only warper around that can possibly understand technology like that…” Danan says with an encouraging smile.

“Oh I.., I don’t k-know…”

“Well… it’s either we try this out or… we just wait for the rifts to find us again… which is not ideal…” Alt mutters.

Danan and Zara blink, “Rifts?” Danan asks.

"They're what sucked us here in the first place," Jackie explains. "See, the three of us—" He gestures at himself, Schneep, and JJ. "—were actually from a different universe than those two." And he gestures at Alt and Bro.

"Three separate universes, actually," Schneep says. "But then we were pulled to their world through these rifts, and all five of us were pulled from that one to this one some time later."

They look like black cracks or tears, JJ explains. Like the air itself has been ripped. And they pull at people nearby. Like... when you open an airlock and all the air goes rushing into the vacuum.

"How do you know what airlocks do? You've never been in space!" Jackie says. "H-have you?"

No, but I've seen movies! You ever seen a movie where someone got ejected into space?

"...I've played Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed, does that count?"

"Ayyy SBA2! That's me and Alt's favorite!" Bro says excitedly. Alt slaps his tail with his own. "Focus-"

JJ blinks. Sorry, I've never played a Sonic game.

"Really?" Schneep says. "Even I have played a Sonic game--the classic sidescrollers, though, none of the 3D games."

"We're getting so distracted." Jackie shakes his head. "God—I've probably missed my time to take my ADHD meds. Anyway. The point is. You really think that we might be able to mess with these alien gates to open up a way to another universe? That seems... complicated."

"... I'm sorry I don't know anything about these rifts...." Danan says.

"They also have like- magic and stuff." Mer Jackie says excitedly. "So- maybe that could help?"

"Well... what the architects could do was nothing short of magical... so- who knows? It's still a mystery to us but... maybe it just needs the right touch." Danan smiles. "Us scientists believe there's nothing wrong with trying something out. They should be safe to look at, at the very least."

Alt sighs, "... It at least gives us a goal for now... and if it works, great! If it doesn't then... gotta wait for the rifts then... honestly it could be worse."

Bro grins at the merboys, "You guys up for taking us on an adventure?"

"I wanna! I wanna!" Mer Jackie says excitedly. Jamie claps and swims around his brothers in a couple big loops. Henrik chuckles, "I am quite curious what we could find." Anti and Marvin grumble a bit but Chase nudges them and they get quieter. "If Jack trusts you all then... yeah. I'm willing to help you guys get home." Chase smiles.

"Awesome!" Jackie whoops. "Let's see more of this place! It's the strangest fucking place I've ever been, so might as well enjoy it while it lasts."

"I am getting better at swimming, I swear I am," Schneep says.

"Y'know, if might actually be better if you took off your shirt," Jackie suggests. "Less drag. More maneuverability. I mean--the fish'll still be there, but still."

"Huh. You might be right, actually," Schneep says, tilting his head thoughtfully. "Okay, might as well try. This is not time to be modest." He starts taking his shirt off.

JJ frowns at Jackie. Did you just want him to join the rest of us in some weird peer pressure thing?

"No, I don't care what he wears or doesn't," Jackie shrugs. "But I really do think it might help. Here, put it in the bundle. Also, do you guys have a bag or something for all our clothes?"

"Of course," Danan laughs. She swims over to the wall and there seems to be a fabricator in here too. After clicking a few buttons it starts to create a large flexible bag. She swims over and hands it to Jackie. "There! That should work right?"

"Ah sweet, thanks!" Jackie grins and takes the bag, putting all their clothes inside. "I hope one of you two know how to dry stuff for when we get out," he says, looking at Alt and JJ.

Oh, of course, that's easy, JJ says.

Then, Danan seems to think and looks over to Marvin, "Marvin... how did you know about the alien arches? Most of them are on land where you all can't reach..."

Marvin quickly looks away and holds his arms. "Um well... I... one it's this... f-fucking chip in my head... but um... I also found one in the lost river...? I... I think the forcefield that kept the water out got d-damaged by a Ghost Leviathan."

"The Lost River?!" Chase shouts, "T-That place with the brine that poisons you guys??"

"...I mean the new Schneep guy is a river prowler- he'll be fine." Marvin says shortly. "And JJ.. he's a ghost ray. And I-I can... self-repair... apparently."

"Ghost leviathan?" Jackie repeats, raising an eyebrow. If that reaper thing was also a leviathan—and there was poisonous brine— "This doesn't sound like a good place."

"Oh! I think there's another forcefield that got damaged in the one by the mushroom forest though!" Zara says happily. "I'm pretty sure I came across that recently but- wasn't really sure how to use those things still..."

"They need an ion cube to work usually," Danan explains. "Most of them that need ion cubes in the main gates are down in HQ but... I think those are still intact...? hm... the mountain base is probably one that needs one."

"...the Lost River one was active." Marvin says quietly.

"...that's really dangerous though! Last time you and me went there you nearly lost your arm and I got bitten to death by mesmers!" Mer-Jackie explains.

"We didn't die Jackie-" Marvin snaps at him. The two glare at each other the way siblings always do when they fight and want to be right.

"W-well, don't fight about it," Jackie says, voice trembling a little. "Don't—don't fight about it.” 

"What the fuck happened that nearly lost you an arm?" Schneep mutters.

And... what was that? Mesmers? JJ repeats, spelling out the word. He's visibly uncomfortable with the implications of that name.

Marvin looks to Schneep, "...a Ghost Leviathan attacked me and bit my arm. ...and it was just a baby too." He shudders and grabs his arm, where the others can see what looks like bite marks. "And uh.. m-mesmers are fish that can... pull you in with colors on their fins and they can s-speak in your mind."

"They majorly suck." Reaper Jackie says and Henrik nods in confirmation.

Hypnotizing fish, JJ comments. Great. He signs the word slowly, making the fish robot say it in a drawl that's clearly meant to be sarcastic.

Alt bursts into giggles. "Oh my god- that was great JJ. But also- mood."

"Also… uh, The brine is easy enough to avoid. It's only on the bottom of things and like... the falls and pools." Marvin mutters.

"Since when do you know so much about it?" Mer Jackie asks with a growl.

"Since I was trapped there for a month, asshole!" Marvin snaps back. Henrik quickly goes to push them aside. "Enough you two!"

Jackie cringes while looking at mer-Jackie and Marvin. He knows that they're siblings, bickering is probably normal, but—why is he thinking of fights with his Marvin? He doesn't like thinking about him— “We can—maybe we can grab one of those cube things from the lost river base and take it to the mushroom place?"

If we're going there anyway we might as well just stay there, JJ points out.

"Can you not make an ion cube with your machines?" Schneep asks, confused. "Or... do you need the design or something?"

"The ion cubes are architect tech so... we don't know how to make them." Danan explains, "They seem to grow in these places though and there's a self-replenishing supply in HQ. But that one is one you all cannot reach... or my boys can't at least."

"Plus uh- Alterra." Zara points out.

"Yes that too."

"Huh. I suppose even machines that can rearrange matter have a limit," Schneep says thoughtfully. "But that limit is not helping right now."

Alt looks at Jackie with a bit of concern and lightly touches his tail against his. Then he sighs and says, "... if the one in this lost river is the only one you all can take us to that's active... then we'll just have to take our chances."

When Alt touches him, Jackie jumps a little, then quickly shakes himself off. "Yeah. And we have safety in numbers, too."

"Besides! We got tons of natives here to help us!" Bro tries to say positively. The merboys either smiles at him or snort and look away.

Danan smiles and nods, "It shouldn't be a long trip. Marvin should just be able to warp you straight there. Unless you all are eager to explore. It is an eerily beautiful place down there."

JJ smiles at Danan. Perhaps we can explore a little bit, but we should do this quickly, I think. Messing with these arches might take a while.

"So we are leaving right now, then?" Schneep asks. "Or—should we prepare? I would be fine with leaving now, in either case."

The merboys all look at each other. Anti shrugs, "I say lets get this over with. I'm eager for things to... be less exciting." He grumbles.

Marvin nods and then opens up a warp gate in the middle of the room. "This should take us straight there." He says, "Everyone swim on through."

"Hmm. Swim through? So you open up a portal," Schneep muses. "Like a small wormhole. Or like a portal from the game Portal." He giggles to himself at the repetition of the word.

"Yeah, actually, it does look a bit like a portal," Jackie says. "But you can't see through to the other side and it's this swirling... pink and purple and blue—"

"Oooo, my favorite colors," Schneep says, grinning. "As my Jackie would say, bisexual lighting."

Jackie and JJ both burst into laughter at that. A little less intense, but you got the idea! JJ says.

Alt studies the warp gate curiously. "... I wonder what would happen if I tried to glitch through this..."

"I dunno if now is the time to play around like that Alt." Bro chuckles.

Marvin makes a face then shrugs, "If it's similar to warping... hm... I can't say I'm not curious too..."

Alt's eyes sparkle a bit and he grins and then glitches through. From their end- nothing seems to have happened- except a tiny spark of green across the surface. And a bit of green reflecting in Marvin's eyes and a barely noticeable twitch in his hands. Bro hurries after Alt.

JJ frowns as Alt glitches through. Not sure that was a good idea.

"Well, it's too late now." Jackie shrugs, making sure that he has the bag on securely. Then he swims on through.

Schneep frowns. He swims forward hesitantly, then passes on through.

JJ lingers nervously at the back. He probably shouldn't be worried. Probably nothing happened. But still, he can't stop the anxiety as he approaches and slowly goes through the warp gate.

Mer-Jackie doesn't look excited to go in the warp gate but Jamie grabs his hand and starts to lead him through. Henrik and Chase laugh a bit at this and follow after. Anti gives the others a neutral glance before he shuffles through.

Once everyone is through, Marvin follows and the gate closes. Zara and Danan wave goodbye. "You have your radios if you need us boys!"

Beastars AU time hi. Sulemio beastars

(yes im using their canonical school outfits but they arent in space, theyre on earth and there isn't any space conflict but THERE is still cooperate clashes.) Asticassia is the name of the school as opposed to Cherryton, well known for recruiting the world's most famous Beastars, it's pretigious Suletta transfered to school finally, after being deprived of an education for years. (Though it's unknowingly to be Prospera's pawn, to be groomed into the Beastars position, to give Prospera power for her vengeance) Asticassia keeps a few things, the main funder of the school is a snow leopard by the name of Delling Rembran. And considering he has massive influence due ot keeping the school alive, and formerly being a Beastar himself - he can decide the school's rules and has massive political influence. Fights between carnivores are encouraged, in these little duels, to see who could prevail upon top and also to settle matches. Herbivores are rarely allowed to partipcate in these duels, as it could lead to an increase of herbivore predation (and also it's believed that they cannot handle the fighting conditions and are seen as 'lesser' and 'weak').

Delling's support of the dueling system is that every animal must embrace being an animal, and conquer that insticintual part of them, to show true and utter restraint. RAAH REJECT MODERNITY BE ANIMALS RAAAH. It's still a very odd and weird system regardless. Delling is a Sublime Beastar himself so yknow. MEGA loser L

Miorine is the daughter of Delling, and is also a hybrid. Her late mother, Notrette Rembran, was an arctic hare. Miorine looks more snow leopard, but she has these subtle herbivore features (duller teeth, duller claws, softer eyes, shorter tail, taller ears) that make it obvious to others that she is simply not the same as them. Especially to her father, she feels like a complete object. It annoys her, she's not taken seriously by either Herbivores or Carnivores. So she pushes others away, focusses solely on herself because there is no one else to distrubte her focus to. Carnivores will only see the prey in her, and herbivores will only see the predator in her. So why waste her time? Instead, she wanted to escape this school and run away from the Rembran name completely. Try to find solace, live a simpler life.

And she was going to, until Suletta Mercury came upon the scene. MIorine had tried to escape the facility of the school, one day, by crawling out her window and sliding along the sides of the wall. Perfect, dangerous, subtle explain plan. If Suletta had no noticed someone up so high, in such a dangerous place-- and not sprung into action. Somehow managing to 'save' Miorine- and MIorine was livid! Unfortnately school staff caught hold of their ruckus, and escorted them into their dorms.

Suletta's never been to any type of school before, she's been with her Mother as long as she could remember. Just her Mother. But she's excited! Excited to prove herself-- but so nervous at the same time. Absolutely terrified of the unknown... but if you run, you gain one. If you move forward, you gain two! She tried to keep that moto, to keep herself motivated. Aforementioned mother being Prospera Mercury, owner of a small yet rather high-ranking company. Prospera Mercury has... slight ulterior motives. Other than fulfilling her daughter's wishes. Being a Beastar, it holds such unpresented power. A title that solidifes a leader, unites herbivores and carnivores together. It wasn't her intention fully at first, but when the oppurinity arised and Suletta was simply at the right time and place. She couldn't help her investment.

and as you can guess. Being titled a 'young beastar' is a bit differently than in the original series, you gotta DUEL FOR IT BITCH!!!!! For the chance of position

The former holder of potenital 'Young Beastar' was Guel, until Suletta came in and kicked his ass!! For Miorine! And as per Dellings little set you, you'll never guess what being 'Young Beastar' also meant. LOL get ENGAGED LOSER!!!

hey sorry if this is weird but this is @chip-and-the-bastards (it's a sideblog so I can't ask with it) and since we're up against each other for the jrwi au showdown I wanted to ask about Blood in the Deadwood‼️ it seems like a cool au but tumblr search function isn't showing me if you have anything for it on this blog! So here take this as an opportunity to ramble about it and also maybe give some propaganda!

Oh HELLL YEAHHHHHH!!!!!

well first of all @tobeywobey was also very involved in making it so make sure you also give them creds ! ! He worked on a LOT of the lore so i really wanna give them proper creds lol. Also the search didnt work because both toby and I haven't post much of anything publicly about it LMAO

BASICALLY its the prime defenders characters but in a kind of Galloway/Deadwood hybrid place if that makes sense. Each character fills the role of another character(s) in blood in the bayou (for example cantrip basically plays the role of Becky in this au.) its pretty cannon compliant to the events of blood in the bayou, except for a few changes, like things happening for different reasons and events being changed. Also there is no superpowers in this au :)

the thing Toby and I changed most was probably the events leading up to the main three going back to deadwood. In this AU Dakota is the one that knows Ashe the best, Will and Vynce are less acquainted with her. This is because she fills the role of Rachel so we wanted it to closer match the relationship that Kian and Rolan had with her when they were younger. so basically Dakota introduces Ashe to the other two a couple years before the events of this AU take place in deadwood, and they all eventually leave for w own reasons. Will dies like in PD canon, is resurrected as a bug sorta like how Rolan is, except he knows that he's a bug and keeps it secret. Ashe goes missing suddenly and Mark immediately starts investigating. The boys talk to mark about any leads or information, and it all leads to Deadwood. Also somewhere along there Williams "parents" die. Some more noatable things that happen in these few years is that vynce and cantrip have a relationship thats more like a situationship, and the three of them start a dnd campaign but never finish it.

They all go to Deadwood Because of Ashe's disappearance but vynce and will also have other reasons. Vynce really wants to finish this fuckin dnd campaign, and will felt the most obligated to go because he's part of the hive (and also his parents funeral was happening there anyways.) Will is also the one that is the most hesitant to go in the first place.

Then the BITB cannon stuff happens! They greet Doug (who plays the role of rat in this AU,) go to quickstop, see The Horrors, all that stuff. They obviously react in different ways and do different things than the BITB pcs, but it all still leads to them going to points of interest and having the big events happen to them the same. One notable change is that Will sees doug in the alley, pasteified, but is really curious about what actually happened to him instead of being horrified of the human sludge (Will is so fucking insane in this au.) Another is that will convinces Dakota that they need to leave (like how kian does) but while they are driving away will and dakota get into an argument wich leads to dakota grabbing the wheel from him and they end up swerving into the membrane wall.

Mark and tide have a perry and doofenshmirtz dynamic. They both have radically different theories on what is happening to the town and argue constantly, but when they aren't being crazy people they get along

okay so grians species is actually kinda complicated

he was born as game watcher, an animus nightwing working under his mentor, secret keeper. he helps to organize tournaments between tribes on the mainland, tournaments that frequently end up going to death, a bit like scarlet's battle arena. though, one day, he got too attached to a participant in the game, which is a big no no and secret keeper cursed him to become a "lazy, bumbling rainwing for the rest of his days"

he moves permanently to the mainland and into the rainforest, plotting his vengeance and trying to find out how to cure himself.

since he looks like a very. weird rainwing though jimmy and joel end up finding him and trying to recruit him to their little hybrid clique.

jimmy is a rainsea hybrid named canary and joel is a rainmud hybrid named leaf. they're kinda the weirdos of the rainwings and, because grian is 1. generally bad at "acting like a rainwing" and 2. looks like a weird sort of hybrid of some kind, they take him under their wings for a while.

while out one night, trying to find that portal to the nightwing island, grian is ambushed.

when he wakes up hes in the scorpion den, ran by cleo, a skysand hybrid named cobra. she gets to be nicknamed king cobra cause I think its it's fun. turns out theres a small bounty on his head, but cleo will spare him (for now) out of good faith, them both being hybrids and all.

scar is the one who kidnapped him. formerly named sahara, scar was renamed after gaining all his battle wounds. hes like the quibli to cleos thorn. scar doesnt exactly appreciate cleos generosity, but he doesnt do anything further. hes just tasked with showing grian around, hes essentially his assigned best friend. neither of them care to much for it.

one day the skywings raid the scorpion den, lead by martyn, who is named general mars. grians wing gets injured in his and scars escape, cleo is captured.

scar wasnt able to fly anyway, but he refuses to leave grian, carrying him away on his back.

they are left stranded in the desert and become closer, grian still trying to find a cure for his curse. jimmy and joel are still looking for him.

tango is an overcooked skywing with too much fire, though he isnt with the skywing kingdom, hes actually imprisoned there. his name is blaze. also gay rancher love

lizzie is the seawing queen who's name is axolotl. she and jimmy are half siblings and shes been searching for him since his egg was stolen from the hatchery. his egg was yellow, btw, so shes looking for a yellowy seawing. his name was going to be cod. she and joel meet and fall in love at first fight.

scott is one of her ambassadors and friends, helping her try to find jimmy. his name is seafoam.

pearl is grians sister, her name is, of course, pearlescentmoon, named that mostly just because she was born on a bright bright night. she can see into the future and she desperately wants to return her brother to a normal life.

cub is an icewing named polar (last name bear lol. cuz. cub.) and he and scar met when they were both taken as prisoners. they're besties but dont talk often. etho is also an icewing, his name is icicle.

ren is the skywing king, his name is just red. they call him the red king.

Hello and welcome to finally explaining what the hell this AU’s name is. c!Sam realizes that he may’ve messed up a little bit, and gets some advice from c!Ponk which he proceeds to ignore 90% of.

Sam found himself... on edge. After the incident with Ranboo, Dream had refused to do the stretches again, and Sam hadn’t been willing to push the issue.

At the time, Dream had been so on edge that Sam was worried he might bolt. He kept glancing back towards the closet suspiciously, muscles tensed up and ready to run at any point. It was understandable, Sam was also nervous about the entire incident, but it was fine? Right? Sam took care of it.

If nothing else, when Dream got up to walk to the bathroom, he was doing quite a bit better. He still wasn’t balancing well enough to walk on his own, but he was wobbling a lot less and Sam was only supporting some of his weight rather than almost all of it. That was good.

Sam held onto that little bit of progress, gripping that close to his chest.

When Ponk messaged him that evening, Sam was proud to be able to report that Dream was doing better. He didn’t exactly mention the whole Ranboo thing, but that’s because it was already taken care of and fine.

The next day, things got... complicated.

Or maybe things had been complicated the entire time, and Sam hadn’t realized it.

The problem was when Sam tried to get Dream to do the stretches the next morning, the rabbit hybrid agreed to do them but refused to allow Sam to help. Which was reckless and dangerous, and almost lead to Dream slamming his head against the dresser when he lost his balance. Even after that, he refused any help.

Sam didn’t get why. Hadn’t Ponk said that Dream had let him help already? The rabbit hybrid clearly wasn’t hurt from the touch. Nothing was broken anymore (most likely, Ponk hadn’t actually been able to assure that none of the inner ear bones were broken, but he was hopeful it was just inflammation which healing potions couldn’t fix).

At least part of it appeared to be that whenever Sam had to touch Dream to help him move around, Dream got oddly tense. His muscles moved stiffly, hell, half the time it was like they were in splints. Sam had thought it was just a side effect of his condition, but that didn’t appear to be the case.

The trend continued after lunch, and after a very frustrating second attempt at stretching, Sam decided to take drastic measures.

‘Dream isn’t doing his stretches correctly. I think something’s going wrong. He keeps getting all tense and won’t let me help. He almost hurt himself. Do you know what might be wrong?’

The message was sent to Ponk 15 minutes ago. About halfway through a “Ponk is typing...” had popped up. Something that Sam hadn’t seen in nearly a year. Ponk must’ve turned that back on for some reason. Weird. Well, it was nice to know he saw the message. Maybe there was a good medical reason for all of this?

Eventually, he got a message back.

‘Sam, do you know about how rabbits & prey hybrids can have freeze instincts?’

It was... shorter than he expected. Also a little bit insulting. Of course he’d done his research! Even before that he was well aware of freeze instincts. Everyone did, unless they never met a prey hybrid. What did that have to do with this?

Unless the freeze instinct had something to do with the inner ear trauma? That was possible.

‘Yes, I’m aware.’

He kept his reply short, but there was still almost 10 minutes before he got reply. Ponk was probably busy.

‘Okay, so prey hybrids tend to freeze and tense up when they’re scared. So that’s likely what’s happening. That would make stretching hard. Just have him do what he can while you’re there, and I’ll message him some adaptations he should be able to do on his own.’

Sam took the time to read that over twice, and then tried to make sense of it. He understood it in theory, but in context, it was... missing a piece that his brain wasn’t clicking into place.

‘Why would he be scared?’

Another pause. Long and painful.

‘Sam, he’s scared of you. I can’t tell you exactly why, but I feel like you should be able to guess.’

Oh.

Sam hadn’t wanted to think about that. Somewhere inside himself he knew it was a possibility, but it didn’t... That shouldn’t count. Dream killed him. Sam wasn’t- they had a truce.

Dream had saved him, had gone up against a Warden when he could’ve just run. There was no reason for Dream to be scared of Sam. 

Sam found himself going around in circles before another texted interrupted his thoughts.

‘Prey hybrids very rarely like being around people when they’re injured. Unless it’s someone they’ve known a long time and trust completely, that person will stress them out.’

It was easier to deal with.

There was a time quite awhile ago when Sam probably would’ve been in that category for Dream. Not anymore. He could- he could understand that. They were- different. New people several times over.

He could work with this. Although some advice couldn’t hurt.

‘Is there anything I could do? To make it easier?’

This time, the reply came quickly.

‘Give him space. Give him time. Don’t try to force him into anything.’

Only a second later, a second buzz.

‘Maybe bake him an apology cake or something. Idk.’

That was... that was something Sam could do. It was an idea for sure. Baking wasn’t his strong suit, but he could follow a recipe. It couldn’t be that hard?

The apology part of it made him feel... he didn’t want to even attempt to talk about any of that with Dream right now. But maybe he could write something on the cake? That felt a lot easier than trying to talk about it.

The more he thought about Ponk’s advice, the more he liked the sound of it.  This was a way forward.

Mind made up, Sam checked the time and headed for the kitchen. He only paused for long enough to send a quick text back.

‘Thanks, Ponk. I think I’ve got it figured out now.’

Our poor baby was neglected by his owners, not feeding him enough or taking care of him in the slightest. This lead to him looking dull and sickly and his owners degrading him for being ugly :(

His owners would leave him in his tank all by himself for days at a time with nothing to do..except watch the TV that they forgot to turn off. Colorful shows would come on and the main characters would dance around and sing about friendship and love. Two things that he desperately craves and needs.

Why doesn't he get that? Surely it's his fault. He isn't good enough. His tank is smelly, he's not colorful enough, his scales are shaped weird. Especially because the owners have a butler demon pet that can be out of a tank full of water for more than a few hours at a time without getting dehydrated or suffocating! His only job is to swim in circles and look pretty and he can't even do that right!

He's a freak!

That's what he's told as he's sold to some cruel pet store, they make an attempt to handle him but they put him in fresh water! They didn't know how to care for him and didn't want to have to wait around for him to die because that would be a waste of money.

So they call you!

Poor lil Levi struggling to comprehend why you think he's so pretty. He is so confused when you gently pet his hair or when a pebble gets lodged in his gills you pull them out! It isn't long before you let him out of the house to see the ocean, something he had only seen on TV. He still stays with you, but when you let him out of the tank in your house to go to the beach he's buzzing happily as he brings you shiny rocks he found under water.

The only downside (which I could never punish him for) is when he wants to snuggle your clothes get a bit damp and he cries easy if he feels like he did something wrong.

Levi getting so insecure because he feels like he doesn't deserve love.... I can definitely see Levi trying at first to "fix" the things that are "wrong" with him. He tries to clean his tank, and slowly peals off all the scales that look misshaped, and be more like their other pet. But nothing works and he believes that being worthless is just what he is. Why even try when he's just going to be gross no matter what?

Also, I saw you sneak Barbs into there! (Or at least, I think you're taking about Barbs when you mention a "butler demon"?) I can definitely see Barbs as someone who wants to help Levi, but he's been so conditioned to be Good and Obey that he can't force himself to.

So it's no surprise to Levi when he owners tell him that they're getting rid of him. It was only a matter of time before they get sick of him, Levi thinks. It doesn't surprise him when the pet store employees put him in the wrong tank. He doesn't even look like the demon hybrid he's supposed to.

When you show up he honestly thinks you're there to put him out of misery, though he can't deny the thought of death shakes him to his core.

So he's extremely surprised when you don't ditch him on the side of the round to rot. Instead you take him to your house and place him in a tank that's waaaaaay bigger than the one he was in at his old house. This must be some kind of mistake, right? You're surely not expecting him to go in *there*, right? Levi is afraid that he's going to somehow dirty up the tank just be being in it, and it takes some convincing before he actually goes in it.

Since his last tank was filthy Levi is probably covered in algae and grime. So you bring out a special brush and bring Levi into a smaller, special cleaning tank. Levi can hardly believe you're being so gentle as you scrub his tail with the brush. You don't even bother with your clothing, kneeling behind Levi as your clothing starts tonget wet. Everything feels so soft and warm that Levi momentarily relaxes, leaning into the feel of the brush.

It's a slow process to get Levi to be more comfortable around you, and it takes even longer for him to believe that he isn't unworthy of love.

Anime helps though, it look awhile but eventually Levi asks you what channel the "colorful pictures" are on, and now you two watch them together. What really helped was explaining to Levi that sometimes characters go though hardships, but they always meet with their friends and everything turns out ok, right? Now Levi keeps referring to his old owners as his "tragic backstory".

Fox AU Assorted Ideas:

● One thing changed about the AU is that the village is actually full of Zoroarks and Zoruas is a sanctuary of sorts where they can be themselves without unwanted human judgement. (Though many take humans as mates, it doesn't really matter because those people are accepting of hybrids.) A few of the family lines in the village actually come from Ingo and Emmet, but also because of another retcon where s/o died in the past because of humans. Their reincarnation returns to the village and loves the fox boys again.

○ Also Emmet hated humans because of their death and Ingo also did (but stopped because literally half the village has human mates). It's customary for those descending from the fox gods to bring their children to be blessed by them. (The entire village does this in general, but the gods actually appear for their descendants rather than doing it silently.) Ingo cries at every grandchild, happy his family is so large. Emmet holds the human babies like a sack of potatoes, though. It's extremely mournful whenever any family member passes away.

● Ingo doesn't let any Zorua hybrid children leave the village until after a certain age as their illusion abilities are unstable and likely to fail. It's an old practise that he's become more lenient on as the years go on, originally out into place as a defence of the kits and the village as a whole. It's not uncommon for a kit trying to wander out of the village without a parent to meet Ingo at the gates, who leads them back home with a long, scolding speech. Ingo is uniformly known as the village 'dad' because of this.

○ Emmet shadows any unknown humans that enter the village as his distrust towards them has not lessened despite the years. Visitors often claim they feel a cold chill down their spines alongside a feeling of being observed. If they try anything shady, they're quickly apprehended by a strange, smiling man who asks if they would like to die. It's a terrifying visage and most people are quick go depart after encountering him.

● Ingo's favourite offerings are that with high sentimental value, while Emmet prefers sweets of any kind. Money is nice, yes, but those items will always allow your prayers to be heard by them. They socialise during festivals in their masks, with only the locals knowing that they're the gods of the village. Emmet is playful around the event, taking to battling and playing games. His determination to win is a bit unsettling. Ingo speaks quite a bit and takes to helping children understand customs and traditions. Emmet complains that Ingo is lame.

○ Ingo and Emmet are personal, human names. As gods, they're referred to as Lord Nobori and Kudari. It's a way to distinguish themselves from the godly duties and human interests.

● They plead for their mate to go to the nearby city and record them travelling on a train. It's not often they can leave their home, and they dearly love the rail system. Its a bit distressing to see them pine for it, but it doesn't hurt to indulge them.

○ The moment their mate's reincarnation entered the village, they were rushing to make contact. Centuries without them left them desperate and needy. You get greeted by two strange men who proceedingly take you to specific parts of the village in an attempt to jog your memories. In the end, they reveal themselves as the fox gods they are and hope you'll forgive their weirdness and stay with them. (You do, as a free place to live and loving boyfriends is a nice trade-off.)

He also likes to tease you a lot but you know he’s just joking because if he was serious, his tail wouldn’t be so related

You try not to tell him because then he’ll start working harder to hide his tail swishes

The moment he hears the sound of the bedroom door opening, he’ll lift his head and peek out from the top

Yk I wanna say he’d be some cursed Dwaekki hybrid the skzoo dwaekki haunts me in my sleep

But I genuinely feel like he’d be something really threatening like a wild animal

So if Chan’s a husky and Minho’s a maine coon

I’m gonna throw Changbin in as a grizzly bear because he’s a tank of a man and I love him for that

His ears are dark brown and rounded, poking out from the top of his head

His eyes are super dark brown and sometimes you can’t even tell if you’re able to see the white in his eyes bcs his pupils are just that big

His hands have these huge black claws that could claw someone apart if he wanted to

Also has a cute brown tail that he often hides underneath his clothes because it’s small enough for him to sit on

He gives THE BEST CUDDLESSSS!!!!!

Sometimes shifts into bear form just to cuddle you because it’s cold and relying on the heater might make it too warm

So Binnie likes to use his own fur to warm you up if he notices you shivering

Also would not hesitate to bear his teeth at anyone who tries to hurt you

Changbin doesn’t really tell anyone this

But one of his proudest bear traits is his ability to vocalise like a bear

Which means that whenever he feels the need to protect you or whoever’s around him

He will growl like a bear

And it’s terrifying

You didn’t even know that Changbin could roar until one night when a stranger wouldn't take your ‘no’ as an answer and your boyfriend almost lost his mind

He pulled you behind him and grabbed the collar of their shirt and just roared at them

The stranger being a hybrid of a smaller bear species immediately scrambled off

But Changbin also immediately switches back into sweet, cuddly boyfriend the moment he turns back to you <3

Hyunjin

A sphynx hybrid

Very dramatic

Very loud

He has pink cat ears sticking out of the top of his head with a little black splotch on his left ear

He also has this naked pink tail that sticks out from underneath his shirt

Every minor inconvenience and Hyunjin’s meowing and whining to you about it and you think it’s funny every time he does

Like the time he misplaced his sock and was crying all over your shared home looking for it until he found it underneath the bed

His claws are retractable, so he usually hides them because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone on accident unlike Minho

He’s VERY cuddly both in human form and cat form

Hyunjin likes to do the ‘kneading the dough’ thing whenever you’re cuddling

And ends up leaving holes in your clothes because his claws would accidentally grab onto the fabric

Would also feel really bad afterwards because now he’s ruined your shirt

You reassure him that it’s fine

But Hyunjin’s dramatic also kinda wants an excuse to go shopping with you

So he cries about it and it leads to him dragging you to the mall so that he can buy you a new one

Ends up getting distracted at a cat cafe because he’s made conversation with one of the cats there

And he’s basically talking to them like he’s a middle aged wine mom talking about their weird husbands

You have to remind him what the goal is

But he’s so immersed in the conversation with the orange tabby that you can only watch in amusement

Hyunjin’s talking to it in English while the cat nods with it’s tail swishing every time he asks it a question, mewling every once in a while as a response

You watch with a smile on your face, chin resting against the palm of your hand as you listen

You can only gather that Hyunjin’s telling the cat about why you’re at the mall

And the cat turns to you with a bored expression on its face before meowing

“She says good luck on finding a new shirt”

You nod and reach out to pet the cat’s head as thanks

You and Hyunjin leave after a while

And soon, the trip to get one shirt turns into a shared shopping spree

Jisung

Kinda obvious but he’s a squirrel hybrid

He has a pair of rounded, light brown ears on the top of his head

A bushy light brown tail that bumps into everything whenever he’s in cramped spaces

And the CUTEST pair of brown eyes EVERRRRR

His squirrel trait is where he gets the habit of stuffing food into his cheeks whenever he eats

Ji’s really good at climbing

So he has this long ass piece of wood that he keeps in the living room of his home so that he can still climb something in squirrel form if he can’t go outside

He also has tiny black claws that he uses mainly for practicality when he's in human form

So stuff like cutting into plastic, through strings and to open mail

He just slides his finger across the top of the envelope and boom

Jisung’s quite clumsy

It doesn’t help that he has this huge, bushy tail behind him

He bumps you with it a lot and he’s always so apologetic over it

But it’s fine because it’s his tail and it’s soft and cute and it’s part of Jisung UwU

There were a couple of times where you would wake up and his tail would be tickling your sides

So you’d wake up giggling

And it would wake him up too

He’d turn around and immediately wrap his arms around your waist to cuddle into you

You love playing with his ears

Jisung’s really responsive whenever you pet his squirrel features

So if you touch his tail in public

He’s jolting forward like AHHH

And you like to gently rub his ears whenever you’re cuddling

Jisung usually ends up cuddling into you more because he really likes it whenever you play with his ears

He has a habit of making those squirrel squeaks whenever he’s uncomfortable

So in public, if he feels like he’s overwhelmed or wants to leave

He’ll cling onto your arm and start squeaking softly so that only you’re able to hear

And it’s an easy way for you to know that he wants to leave without him actually telling you

Felix

Horned owl hybrid

He has two sets of white and brown feathers that poke out from the top of his head and curls to the back

He does, however, have talons at his fingertips that he doesn’t really like because it gets caught on a lot of things

Has feathers running down his arms, but can’t actually fly in human form

His eyes are this beautiful amber colour

He also has a lot of hanging stuff in his house that he likes to fly back and forth to whenever he shifts into owl form

Absolutely loves doing the head spinning trick because you freaked out the first time you saw him do it as a human

Felix also has really light footsteps

So sometimes you don’t even hear him coming into a room and suddenly he’s beside you

Which scares you sometimes

Overall, Felix is just unintentionally scary.

Buuuut

Because he has really good eyesight at night

And because he’s nocturnal

He sleeps in the day

Which means that all of his work is done at night while you’re asleep

His hearing is intense which means that he could hear the smallest pin dropping in the kitchen from the bedroom

So when he hears something strange coming from the kitchen

He’s immediately crawling out of bed and peeking out of the bedroom door

That’s when he sees a spider crawling out from behind the fridge

A huge spider

Now, Felix does NOT like spiders

But he knows that if you wake up in the middle of the night to get a drink, then you’re going to be freaked out by too

But he should be able to toss it out the window in owl form

So Felix pops open one of the windows and shifts

His silent flying and sharp night vision make it a quick mission that’s executed without much hassle

He manages to grab the spider with his talons and just tosses it straight out of the window

By the time Felix has returned to the bedroom

You’ve woken up because you realised he wasn’t beside you anymore

So he climbs back into bed and lets you hold onto him while you fall back asleep

Seungmin

Labrador hybrid

Has a pair of golden ears flopping over the top of his head

Also has a golden tail that he usually hides because if he gets over excited then it’ll wag all over the place and might bump into things

Is a relatively quiet person and is also a quiet dog

He doesn’t say or bark that much

But you’ve come to learn how to read his body language

Because his posture both in human form and dog form speak his thoughts

Like whenever he’s standing tall then you’ll figure that Minnie’s probably uncomfortable or feels threatened

As quiet as he is

He’s extremely attentive to your needs as well

Seungmin’s able to catch your body language way quicker than you are at reading his

Which means that the moment you look uncomfortable, he’s immediately moving to stand beside you with an arm wrapped around you

Think of it as that TikTok trend that’s like ‘using my scary dog privilege’

In this case

Seungmin’s more than happy to be the scary dog that lets you walk around alone

He’d bark and bite at anything or anyone who would try to hurt you

Even in human form, he’d growl as a warning to other animal hybrids that are around you

Whenever you’re out in public, Seungmin tries to stay by your side just in case anything happens

But when he has to part from you to talk to another group of your friends

He keeps you in his line of sight

He’d always angle himself in conversations so that the person he’s talking to has their back facing you so that he’s able to see you

And when a cat hybrid suddenly approaches you

Seungmin’s more on the attentive side but he hasn’t gone into protective mode because you don’t look uncomfortable

But then your frame starts to shrink

He immediately changes his posture

Which scares the people around him because suddenly, Seungmin looks so scary

He waits a moment longer and the moment you start looking around the room for him, he’s shoved his drink into the hands of Hyunjin so that he can make his way over to you

He slings his arm over your shoulder and glares at the cat hybrid who’s now extremely intimidated by the presence of the labrador hybrid

Seungmin leans close to the cat and growls at them until they run off

He stays with you for the rest of the night and the way he stays in protective mode makes you feel safe

Until you get home and Seungmin’s back to this ball of cuddle fluff that you absolutely love (｡♥‿♥｡)

Jeongin

Fennec fox hybrid

Has a big pair of white fluffy ears that poke out of his head

Has a fluffy white tail that blends into a more golden colour that’s long enough to poke out from underneath his shirt

He has super insane hearing

Even if he has headphones in, he can hear the outside world

Bodes well for him because whenever you walk into his apartment, he’ll walk out immediately to greet you

He never actually feels hot or warm because his body heat radiates off of his ears

Is always cold in human form

In fox form, his fur insulates his body instead so he doesn’t feel much of a difference

Has a habit of not drinking for hours because he can get stuck in his fox form

Also has a habit of chewing on your desk plants if he deems them edible

Unfortunately for you, that means you’ll come home to your beautiful plant babies half eaten and munched away because your fox boyfriend wanted a snack

To solve this problem, you filled the fridge with berries and vegetables for whenever he feels like snacking

But sometimes he goes overboard and he pretty much eats everything he can find when he forgets to eat for a while

He’s a fox hybrid that doesn’t know how to shift on command

Usually he has this big urge to shift but he’ll be stuck in one form for a while before being able to switch

He doesn’t know any other fox hybrids

So Jeongin has to learn to control his animalistic instincts with the help of you!

Minji’s sudden movements wake Changbin instantly. She sits up straight, body rigid. He quickly picks up the approaching voices, sensitive ears picking up their footsteps. 

“We slept too long.” She whispers, eyeing the light through the gap under the door. 

The voices get closer to the shed, Changbin moving to a crouch in front of Minji. 

“They’re in here. I can smell them all over the yard.” 

“That’s weird...it almost smells like-”

“Felix no!”

Both occupants of the shed blink as bright light blinds them for a moment. Changbin keeps Minji behind him, ears standing straight up as figures move into the light. He can scent predator hybrid, his animal brain telling him to run far and fast but he can’t. He knows Minji can’t run anymore, and he knows he won’t make it far either. . 

“I’m sorry if we startled you.” One of the voices that had been speaking earlier says. Changbin glances up at the human male in the doorway. “That wasn’t our intention.” The human lowers himself to their level, keeping his distance. “Felix smelled you this morning and we wanted to see if you were still here. Offer you something to eat. And maybe a change of clothes.” 

“Why?” Changbin asks, tightening his grip on Minji. 

“It’s what we do. This is a safe place for hybrids. We get a lot of strays out here so we offer help when we can. You don’t have to stay. But you look like you could use a good meal.” 

“Changbin...” Minji grips his arm tightly. “I’m hungry...” 

“We’ve already wasted too much time. We have to keep going.” 

“I can’t keep going, Changbin. I’m tired.”

not only does it act as a protective measure it's just far enough that it emits a nice heat that keeps you and sap warm

he probably tells you home much he loves you and kisses your forehead nd stuff when you're asleep

your guys height difference isn't much but it's still enough to make you look a bit smaller in comparison to him

doesn't tease often since he knows you can tease him right back, but that doesn't stop him from asking dream to put things just out of reach for you so he can grab them

you somehow don't catch on and dream is salty that he got caught with putting things out of your reach so early on and george still does it

ANYWAY

whenever you guys cuddle he sprouts mushrooms nd flowers

more specifically dandelions, so when you guys cuddle you can pick the flowers and make flower crowns

teaching george to make flower crowns :((

he likes laying on your chest so you can play with his hair but he equally enjoys you laying on his chest so he can play with your hair

you guys have like,,,a 1-4 inch height difference (again I don't know his canon height)

he's still teases the hell out of you and you tease him back, but you have to give him kisses after since it bruises his ego

another boy and who likes cuddling with you on his chest

wraps his wings around you to keep you warm and protected :((

whenever he's having a bad day or he's having a nightmare he likes to just curl up into your chest while you gently run your fingers against the feathers of his wings

probably likes to lend you his jackets because they're just big enough for you to have the little sweater paws but not big enough to get in your way when you're doing anything

whispers sweet things in spanish when you're asleep

also enjoys giving you kisses when you're sleepy/asleep

random hc, let's pretend you're part of SBI, you were probably the first person out of the feral boys he asked to preen his wings, so one night you and the other boys sat around quackity as they watched and you taught them how to preen wings :]

his favorite thing to do with you is cuddle while watching movies or shows you two enjoy

will take you on a picnic date and cuddle with you on the grass :(( [or on the picnic mat if you're like me nd don't like the itchy feeling of grass]

he prefers being little spoon but he doesn't really care, as long as you guys are holding eachother

he's like,, stupidly warm????

he's so warm that a majority of the time when you guys cuddle the covers end up tossed on the floor

it normally starts off with "mmmm let's all cuddle, it would be very nice"

the quickly leads to *incomprehensible yelling*

arguing over who gets to cuddle with who

it normally ends with you getting annoyed, pouting and tell them all to shut up

nothing really ever gets decided, there's no system and normally days like that just end in a cuddle pile of five happy boys and their slightly suffocating partner

but, in long days where you all just wanna crash into eachothers arms and sleep, it's very soft and sweet

you normally crash on the chest of whoevers already in bed which is normally dream

then quackity and karl come in and lay on either side of you while sapnap crashes on your chest/tummy

you all quietly chat and play with eachothers fingers and hair until you all eventuate fall asleep

you guys probably have like, seperate rooms (that rarely ever get used) and one room with a giant bed that you all normally sleep in together

over all, feral boys? 10/10 cuddle partners
