So, we watched episodes 6 & 7 of Wheel of Time
I think my husband has struggled a little with hearing some names pronounced, I mean, I know it's thrown me off a couple of times, when we're both so used to seeing the names written. Even with the guides at the back of the books we sometimes develop a preferred (incorrect) pronunciation. Anyway watching the opening about young Siuan and he's like, wait, who is she? 'Cause I don't think he quite caught the way her name was pronounced at first.
It's all starting to blur together a bit, which things happen in which episode, which I didn't expect to happen quite so soon, for me in the books I'm pretty good at remembering things up through tFoH and then it gets blurry. At least being 8 episodes if I want to rewtch it's easy enough to do so.
I am way more interested in the white tower polical stuff these days, so that's all very interesting to watch, and I feel I've got to watch it again to catch all the various interplays. Logain was very tragic, and I want more of him. Moiraine was very dramatic with the public displays of humiliation.
The blue sister talking about ships disappearing in the west filled me with dread. That's some bad, bad news right there.
I was right, when we got to the scene where Moiraine and Siuan are alone and they kiss, husband was like, I don't remember that from the books. I had to remind him RJ had some odd ideas about women being "pillowfriends" as novices but usually growing out of it. Which, yes, let's ignore that.
It was interesting how Moiraine kept Mat & Rand separated from Egwene & Perrin, not even telling them they were all in the city. I know part of it was trying to keep the tower from noticing what she was doing, but I can't help but think little things like that will fuel the distrust in her, especially with some of her other choices later.
Loved the scene of Egwene and Nynaeve meeting Siuan, and the way Nynaeve refused to be impressed or cowed, haha.
If I have one complaint, they sent the horses away before entering The Ways and had Mat dramatically hang back before ditching them, I just think him holding on to the horses and noping out of going with them would have made more sense. But uhh, I'm also worried about him being alone, weaponless and horseless and Padan Fain showing up to follow the others.
My husband had left the room just before the openjng for episode 7, so I paused it, and when he came back he was like, you didn't have to do that, and I was like, excuse you yes I did. You'll want to see this. Rand's mum fighting all those men while in labour, that was some badass shit. It's an awesome fight sequence which he agreed was worth watching.
So the Ways were creepy, but I liked the moment that showed Perrin's vision has changed when he could see further in the dark than the others. And then the black wind with everyone's fears hurled at them, for yet another moment of Nynaeve blazing with power.
I saw Uno! Hiiiiii Uno!
And Min was introduced, hi Min. She seems ok so far. She is kinda special that she's the first person Rand is willing to admit to the possibility he is tDR.
Liked Nynaeve getting to meet Lan's family and have her time with him.
Not sure what else to say about the episode. There were a lot of conversations, some awkward moments, a moment that seemed to be unintentionally unrequited Perrin/Rand while they tried to sell us on unrequited Perrin/Egwene, but all of it leading to the moment where Rand and Moiraine ditch everyone to head to teotw.

Episodes 4 & 5 of Wheel of Time
Well, @markantonys was right, I DO like Show!Logain. He is incredibly charismatic and compelling. I definitely hope we get more of him in later seasons.
I doubt we'll get it in a show, but I would love to see him trailing after Nynaeve like a puppy. Especially if we get scenes of her Healing his gentling and if they decide to have her Healing him of madness instead of the asha'man I've forgotten. Even if he's like, She's not the dragon but she's the only Aes Sedai I'll respect, I just kind of want him low key devoted to her.
I really liked getting to observe the warders and aes sedai and the various dynamics. The casual intimacy, and the teasing but also the careful watching of each other, it was all quite fascinating. I used to hate the political stuff when I first read the books but now I find it quite interesting.
Liandrin is so very creepy and punchable, and so much of her scenes with Moiraine my internal monolog is "you want to fuck her so bad it makes you look stupid"
God, but the conversation between Lan and Stepin when Stepin says something to the affect of "When you lose Moiraine, talk to me about how easy it is to give your bond to another woman" that made my heart clench.
Having to remember to bite my tongue a bit when watching with my husband, because while he's read the books, he doesn't know the show spoilers I know. I am wondering how he will react to Siuan and Moiraine in the next ep. He knows they're good friends despite the reputation with the other Aes Sedai that they're not. But does he remember they were pillow friends, I don't think so.
I am glad that the other kids are now all in Tar Valon and we can have them all united soon, however briefly. Poor Mat has deteriorated so much. And Rand is so concerned for him. I kind of miss that we haven't got the book scenes of dagger-affected Mat looking after chanelling-sickness Rand, but still they are looking out for each other.
I knew Egwene and Perrin needed to run into the white cloaks again, but oooh that was tough. Their treatment of the tuatha'an was rough. And knowing what other tortures are in Egwene's future my heart was breaking all over for her. Kind of laughing at Perrin's wolf stuff happening and the reaction he has is rather like, "welp, we don't have time go unpack all that" which is so very Perrin, isn't it.
Oh, also Loial was introduced! He seems nice. I never really formed a picture in my head of what Ogier look like, so his appearance is strange without clashing with my imagination.

We got through episodes 2 & 3 of Wheel of Time last night. I have a feeling I'm going to need to rewatch because a few times I was looking at something on my tablet and missed moments. That's on me for not giving it my undivided attention.
I don't know if it's intentional or not, but it feels to me like Rand stands out from the other kids (and EF ppl in general) not just because of the red hair, but he seems more... tidy? The clean-shaven, close cropped hair, even his clothes seemed less disheveled that the others. It's a little thing but it makes him more noticeable to me.
My biggest take-away was that episode 2 sets up the specialness of Egwene channeling, Perrin's wolf stuff, and Mat's emotional support cursed dagger. Oh and of course, the White Cloaks suck forever.
And then at the end there's the beautiful moment of "What's this? A ranger warder caught off his guard?" where my beloved Nynaeve gets the drop on him. I love that for her.
I am absolutely down for the courtship ritual of "you actually tried to kill me" not to mention "how did you track me?" Basically I just like Lan all 馃槏馃槏馃槏 because Nynaeve keeps surprising him. But theirs is also one of my favourite romances from the books, so it's a dream to see it acted out.
Also I want to congratulate them on the casting for Liandrin, because she has the most punchable face and I am going to enjoy despising her.
I feel like Thom might take a few more eps to grow on me, his intro hasn't really grabbed me.
I couldn't help but notice Rand's line to Mat about the darkfriend girl that she seemed a bit young for him, and Moiraine was more his type. I can't help but feel like that's potential foreshadowing for a more consential Tylin romance (and maybe Melhindra before that?) followed by his prophesied marriage. We'll see how that plays out if we ever get there.
Oh, did things happen with Perrin and Egwene in the third ep? I'll be honest, their part of the story was not really holding me at all. I was way more invested in the Mat-Rand Road Trip. (Also, not sure how much of the "If I wanted a man, I could do better than Mat" line had my husband laughing because it was quite the burn, or because he Knows my multi-shipping tendencies)
Anyway, Logain has shown up and I would like to see how that goes, I feel like the fanon version I built of him in my head is way more interesting than the book canon we got and also Androl stole his limelight so hopefully Show!Logain will be more interesting.

Ok, despite the eps dropping at midday my time, we had stuff going on so I didn't get to start watching until this evening. Only got the first episode down, I'm tired and will have to wait until tomorrow to watch the next two eps.
So!
Egwene staring at the outfit, ohhhhh the feels there.
Nynaeve is just my favourite, absolutely. I love her stubbornness. Making eye contact while downing the water was just beautiful.
Love seeing characters from the first book that hadn't been introduced yet. Hi Elyas! Hi Bayle!
Also, hi Adeleas and Verin!
I still get thrown a bit by Perrin talking about his wife, but I'll get over it. I like to see him bonding with Loial and them teasing Uno.
The changing dynamic between Lan and Moiraine is so heart-wrenching already. His sword practice that reminded me so much about that scene where Egwene meets up with him post tFoH.
Loved the Beltine moment to give us a better sense of how much time has passed for them, and also the Mat angst. Liandrin is a right piece of work. I love to hate her, she has such a punchable face.
I feel like I need to watch it again already because there was so much to take in and I'm sure I didn't catch it all.

So we shelled out for amazon prime the other week, breezed through S1 & 2 of Picard, and decided to wait for a few more eps of 3 to come out before beginning. Which means trying somethjng else. Like, say... the Wheel of Time!
I haven't avoided spoilers for the show at all, but it's one thing to try to absorb the show through gifsets and another to watch it.
My husband's two main comments on changes he didn't understand was the women's circle ceremony with the river, and that they gave Perrin a wife. But other than that he's been enjoying it, as have I. I definitely like the symbolism of the river and the foreshadowing of channeling it entails.
I liked that Rand and Egwene were properly established (& their parents ever so conveniently assigned them a chore that left them alone together) even if they also promptly broke up.
The Nynaeve-Moiraine dynamic was on point. And Lan looks so good.
Padan Fain was appropriately sus.
Mat, oh my Mat. It's going to be very interesting to watch things play out and then readjust come season 2 (???? whenever that will be). I like how much of a darling big brother is.
Perrin. Well, even knowing what was coming that was still very shocking. And I can see how it will drive his angst. Faile is going to have her work cut out for her trying to get him to open up to her.
Visually also, the myrdraal and trollocs looked amazing and terrifying, so kudos to them on that.
It is late and I have to drag myself off to bed, but if I'd started it earlier in the evening I'd probably watch another ep or two.
