Inspired by the post I saw the other day, my version of the Gävlebocken made of lego

This is my earliest memory. I was about 18 months old. My mum needed to hang up the washing, and I was a clingy baby, so she set me down in the basket with the washing.

What I remember distinctly is thinking, "I don't want to be here. If I cry, I'll get picked up." So I cried. Mum took a picture instead of picking me up.

now I'm curious

this isn't about where you think your continuous memories start, but rather what you think is the earliest thing you can remember (even if it's only a few seconds or a quick image)

That reminds me of a high school friend with his yearly school pics. One year he had a beard and looked like a terrorist. The next year he shaved and looked like a baby FBI agent.

Long ago when I saw the first lego Millennium Falcon, I wanted one, but I could not get my head around the price. Of course, the set retired, and I kicked myself that I never bit the bullet and indulged myself. Since then, several more incarnations have been released, that either I couldn't afford at the time, or were small simple versions that weren't going to satisfy my itch.

I really love imperial/dark side ship designs even more than the rebel/resistance designs. So imagine my eyes when I saw they were releasing a Dark Falcon shortly after my birthday. My husband was fine with indulging me for my birthday, and so I waited for the set to be available from a local store. Their first shipment was a limited number and sold out before I had a chance to order mine. I waited some more for them to be restocked, and finally this week I got mine.

I went looking for some old gridded exercise books, that I used to draw floor plan layouts in of various daydream houses, or ones that I would then plot out in sims games. Some of them are so old, I got them when I was a preteen and held on to because they still have plenty of blank pages.

I wanted to be clear this wasn't being used in maths class.

But I also found these gems:

Maze of Excitement

Make your way to the middle of the maze to defeat the spider before you complete the obstacles towards the exit. What an adventure!

I always prided myself on my spelling and would have been mightily embarrassed about 'obsticles' and especially 'sorwd'. Clearly I hadn't got the hang of it's and its.

But wait, there's more!

Maze of Tracking:

Get the board to cross icy water, then get the key, get to the Sorcerer's tome for him & the King's crown jewel. Steal the treasure chests for yourself from the bandits.

Apparently I didn't see fit to note the thich walls on this one.

I have no recollection of what I drew my inspiration from.

Finally had the time and energy to rearrange the kiddo's bedroom. Here's hoping he likes it.

I moved his bed out from the corner where the white shelves now are, because when we'd go to tuck him into bed, he'd put his pillow like a quarter of the way from it and then hunch into a little ball. Yet, when we were on holiday and the beds were angled out into the room like his now is, he slept fine and laid out in the middle of the bed.

By moving things around, I was also about to rearrange the toys that he likes on display, so they're on the shelves and not spreading across the floor where they become tripping hazards. I also moved some out that he hasn't played with in ages, and hopefully I'll be able to donate them to an op shop in the lead up to Christmas.

He still has so many toys, but he loves his collections and I don't want to pare down too much of his things.

We went to the zoo! There were plenty of cool animals to see.

The safari zone, with giraffes and zebras and ostriches.

This meerkat that came right up to stare at me. One of its friends came over too bit I didn't have my camera ready.

So many tortoises

Pretty birds

Lions

Their lone elephant, who will be moving soon to another zoo so she won't be lonely anymore.

Cheetah. There was another one sleeping on a perch further away.

This kea was sleeping/resting in sich an odd position, haha.

When I tell you the unholy squee I made when they came around close enough to photograph...
