Part of the problem, at least in the Pacific Northwest, is that the highways that go through the mountains are very narrow and twisty, and high speed rail needs wider, gentler turns. The existing rail lines have tighter curves than high speed rail needs also. Building a tunnel through the mountains in order to accommodate high speed rail has been discussed, but because it would be the longest rail tunnel in the US to date, it would be both highly experimental and prohibitively expensive. It would likely take decades and tens of millions of dollars to build, money which we could be using to improve existing infrastructure and public transit systems. I wouldn't say it's completely off the table, but the people who are against it have some valid points.
Just a reminder. One of, if not the main reason that many people dont want highspeed rail in the United States is the same reason many are opposed to affordable housing and healthcare.
Equality.
A highspeed rail system that ran along the Interstate would allow millions of people economic freedom and opportunities that comes with choosing your employer and housing from essentially anywhere in the country.
The control freaks would absolutely hate it and is why they fight against its construction.

Insane bird day!!!
We visited William L Finley National Wildlife Refuge off Hwy 99 in Oregon.
On a previous day trip in September we saw muskrat, Great Blue Heron, and a few various shore birds.
This week’s trip proved to be a treat, migrating Cackling Geese arrived in droves and we were lucky to watch a large flock circle and land!
Allaboutbirds.org describes them as “A compact, small goose, with short neck, rounded crown, rather long wings, and short legs. The small bill is short and meets the forehead at a steep angle.”
I describe them as “The cuter Canadian Goose”.
Enjoy our shots of these goose landing!

Take a hard look at how Twitter is doing, and honestly ask the higher ups why trying to emulate that is a good idea. Look at how bad Twitter is these days. I am mobile 99% of the time, but when I hop on on PC, I don't want to look at Twitter 2, I want to look at Tumblr. If I want to look at twitter, I'D HOP ON TO TWITTER. Change it back, or watch this Ship of Theseus sink even faster.

For pet-lovers like me, I'm satisfied with the pet-friendly policy. So, if you prefer the same, book a tour by calling (833) 366-0101.

Third Christmas on the International Space Station
Oregon native Don Pettit spent his third Christmas on the International Space Station (ISS). He was launched into space on the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-26 spacecraft on September 11, accompanied by cosmonauts Aleksey Ovchinin and Ivan Vagner. His fourth trip to the ISS is a six-month mission, which is expected to conduct science experiments and maintain the space station. Pettit previously spent over five months on the ISS that was from November 23, 2002, up to May 3, 2003, and returned on the Space Shuttle Endeavour from November 14 to November 30, 2008. His third trip started on December 21, 2011, and lasted until July 1, 2012. Pettit is the second-oldest NASA astronaut, after John Glenn, who was the oldest when he rode on Discovery at age 77 in 1998.
