MISSION CROSS
GENRES: Action, Comedy, Police Procedural
SUMMARY: Just because the household roles are reversed doesn’t mean you can’t work as a kickass team.
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Driving parking lot donuts in the community Preschool van, impeccable housekeeping, wallet theft, Olympic sharpshooting, assumed identities, hidden lives, trust, teamwork, supportive colleagues, black market bitcoin, and soft-serve ice cream.
HOT TAKE: I love how quickly and yet with such detail the writers set up the domestic life of the two main leads and their work lives. They are so well developed and instantly adored that the rest of the plot was just icing on the cake.
This was a great quick-watch and a great addition to a streaming shortlist.

Revolutionary Love. 7/8
Story: 7
Acting: 9
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Office Girls (twainesse drama) ; Cunning Single Lady (kdrama) ;
The kdrama takes the classic rich elite ceo family storyline to the next level. It surrounds itself about the injustices of society's issues and Korean labour laws. Just don’t take it too seriously at times, while switching off your brain and enjoy the ride. It’s over the top and the main leads character played by Super Junior’s Siwon, dials up the ham, maybe sometimes overly too funny with the naive dumb awe shucks act being a bit too annoying in the beginning episodes. His character does get a much needed character growth in the mid to later acts. Overall it’s a nice romantic romcom with a great bromance subplot too.

You like thrillers? You like politics? You like military fiction? Go into this blind and enjoy the ride. Also, a rare story where the villain is the protagonist.
12.12: The Day (Korean: 서울의 봄; RR: Seoul-ui bom; lit. Spring in Seoul ) is a 2023 South Korean historical action drama film directed by Kim Sung-su, starring Hwang Jung-min, Jung Woo-sung, Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon and Kim Sung-kyun.

Kill Boksoon
Tumblr media
Kill Boksoon    [trailer]
A single mother who is a renowned hired killer finds it difficult to achieve a balance between her personal and work life.
The official summary is much more accurate than the action heavy trailer which can be considered misleading. This is slightly more social drama than action movie, even if Boksoon's indeed a contract killer and there are a number of fight scenes. Which explains the presence of character actress Jeon Do-yeon.
But because the movie spends considerable time with her problems of raising her kid it has the effect that it makes you think about the implications of Boksoon's profession. Movies like John Wick firmly take place in movie land, which makes it considerably easier to accept the violence. But once that illusion is broken, it gets more difficult to "enjoy" the killings. The opening sequence with the samurai still feels "cool". But then, for example, the later meetings of the killer organisation were difficult for me to take seriously in light of the social conflict.

열한번째 엄마 | My 11th Mother (2007)
Tumblr media
Jae Su leads a cruel life for an 11-year-old. His father is an abusive, gambling and jobless wreck of a guy, so the little boy has learned to survive on his own, carefully spending his food stamps and running a string of part-time jobs.
One day, his father shows up with yet another woman, who once she removes her make-up and wig turns from a bar girl into a tired and disheveled woman that eats up all the food in the house when she's not in deep hibernation.
Jae Su seems to have dealt with all sorts of women, but this one is the worst by far. But even enemies join forces when a mutual opponent threatens, and Jae Su and the woman bond together against the violent abuse of Jae Su's father. But, just when the two lonely souls begin to accept each other as kindred spirits and their deep empathy blooms into familial love, things change.

Year of Lists
September Films
She a really long one
Gravity (2013) *6 - took me long enough to get to this. Would have been better in the cinema.
She Said (2022) *6.5 - I love a true story journalistic pacy movie - and Carey Mulligan. Thought Keira Knightley was in this, she's not.
Wonderland / 원더랜드 (2024) *6 - plane watch. This was cute, and emotional.
Okja (2017) *7.3 - I LOVE STEVEN YEUN and a lot of other things about this movie that I will not elaborate on.
The Wailing / 곡성 (2016) *8.5 - I wish I had the words right now, but I don't. This movie is superb, nothing like anything I've seen before. Korean cinema continues to amaze and delight.
Quiz Lady (2023) *6 - new comfort movie alert. This was fun!
The Client (1994) *5 - I don't remember too much of this, just that I thought I'd like it more than I did, and that Susan Sarandon is a delight, as always.
True Romance (1993) *7 - some of it is uncomfortable but yeah, I get it, I get why people are obsessed.
Blink Twice (2024) *7 - this was loud, fun, cool, distressing; just not life-changing.
Cocaine Bear (2023) *7 - SO MUCH FUN, great stuff, absurd.
His House (2020) *5 - I didn't really like this, I didn't think it worked, had a bit of promise with the concept.
Spinnin Man (2018) *5 - what? Like a dream, any memory of this is gone. Could watch again; it's not great, whatever really.
Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) *7.9 - (rewatch) what to say, it's great.
