Reaction to Ep 464

SPOILERS ALERT

In this episode, we finally discover how Jinyoung Park's drug works: two obsessions came to the forefront of three different, bitter scenarios among old friends.

Zack was left baffled as Johan completely ignored his calls and his intentions to help him and salvage whatever left of this damaged friendship.

Yisoo told him that no pleading would work, since Johan was drugged to oblivion and rage.

The only way out for Zack was to knock Johan out. Zack had his moments of doubts, but Gongseob's beastly training took over and he landed a critical hit on Johan...

...which unfortunately fueled Johan's drug-induced fury because Zack's powerful punch reminded him too strongly of Gun, the enemy that the drug made his mind focus on.

Meanwhile, with Vin completely beaten unconscious, Jake challenged Taejin. Taejin refused, however, and hinted that someone else somewhere was waiting for Jake, and he only cheered for "the son of Gapryong Kim".

Taejin's words worked wonders, because Jake was shocked as he realized that Taejin was talking about... Samuel.

When Jake finally found Samuel, the latter had beaten Alexander to unconsciousness while repeating the name of Gapryong Kim.

All that the cute ex Workers Fourth Affiliate director wanted was to mend his friendship with Samuel, but in Samuel's drug-addled mind, Alexander was his disappointing biological father.

Jake said while looking completely cool in the merch that Allied designed that it was not cool for Samuel to hurt Alexander like that.

After all, Jake asked, wasn't he the only son of Gapryong's since he had no other son of Jake's age? Didn't Samuel say that his own father was a gangster too? Yet was the man actually an AC technician?

But those last words were the final blow for drugged Samuel. And he decided that Jake must be executed on the spot. And here comes Samuel looking like he was a character in the horror film Suspiria.

Overall, the episode offers no new surprises but provides what readers have been waiting for: for Jake to finally discover the root of Samuel's insecurities and for Zack to see the long hateful obsession for Gun that Johan had been concealing.

jung jewon . nonbinary. he/they . i would steer clear of hwang min-jun if i were you. a vampire from the nosfantu clan , they’ve been living in the hidden kingdom of sibiuia for ten years. apparently they're thirty-five, but will always look twenty-five. i’ve heard they’re quite curious, though they’re known by their clan to be rather irreverent. guess that’s why they call them the pan. they weren't vrajiit before their death, and often they remind me of a curious head tilt and eyes that gleam too bright; blood on snow while wind whips through tattered banners; a tightly clenched fist, willpower and determination to see justice burning in your chest with a fire that becomes obsession . i’ll be interested to see what happens when they’re introduced to the humans …

———   HISTORY

once he’d been a middle child— third born to the hwang family, there hadn’t been much expectations laid on him growing up. his elder brothers and father spearheaded the campaign for hand of the king, their eyes set on political goals and when his younger brother developed vrajiit abilities, his focus turned towards the academy and the army. court politics had never interested min-jun and he liked the idea of military service even less ( thanking any god that listened for not ‘blessing’ him as bogum had been blessed ). for a time, it looked as if he might pursue a position as one of the king’s scholars but then almost as soon as everyone grew used to the idea, his focus swapped— which was something anyone who knew min-jun knew to expect. 

he grew bored quickly with one focus, all too eager to try new things, develop new knowledge, and experience new experiences. he was as flighty as any bird in spring, bouncing from focus to project to career to lover— whatever else caught his interest for that time. his parents urged him to settle, to find some sense of stability in the ever changing journey he seemed to be the hero of. it was only when news that his younger brother had been killed on the battlefield that min-jun took a moment to stop and consider where his life was going. bogum had known what he wanted for his life and had pursued it to the end; in the end it was the overwhelming feeling of ‘i wish i wish i wish i had been there, that i could have helped, that i could have healed’ that gave him a path to walk. 

a healer he would be, eager to finish training with the purpose of traveling to danruba to work alongside army healers. there was no going back in time to be there to save his brother but there were others he could help in bogum’s memory. 

i wish i could tell you that the night had been extraordinary— that there would have been some indication or precursor to the hell that would follow— but no. it had just been any other night, except for the silence. oppressive silence that stole screams even as vocal cords strained and rattled in their throats, that deafened ears and left the entire family defenseless against the shadow that ushered their doom. he’d been stabbed from behind, the bloodied sword blade reflecting his own horrified expression and the shadowy figure behind him before the blade was withdrawn and he fell. no one heard as he dragged himself from the massacre, desperately trying to escape before the shadow came back and finished the job they had started.

he hadn’t gotten but a few yards from the house, trailing blood behind him before he collapsed silently in the snow. consciousness fleeting, he felt hands turn him and unfocused eyes fought to make out the figure, a soundless plea for help slipping from numb lips. the figure had moved so quickly and when fangs punctured his throat, the feeling had all but slipped from his body. the last thing he remembered before darkness overtook him was the feeling of something coursing down his throat, coating his tongue with copper. 

then he died. 

—— but then he woke up with new eyes that saw clearer and sharper than he’d ever seen before, senses that felt so much more and an unbearable thirst. her name was silaqui and she had saved him, created him into something so much more than he’d ever dreamed he could be capable of being. and with silaqui’s help, they could become even more- could learn to focus those powers that now raced through him. it was surprisingly easy to accept and he did so without fuss—he’d follow silaqui wherever she may lead; he owed her that much after all, didn’t he? 

his mind scrambled to clearly remember every detail of the night of his death— of the ghost that had murdered his family in silence— but traumatized by the brutal attack and his own death, so much of it was clouded over. as a mortal man his mind had been a busy and distracted place but as a vampire, that distraction was easily compartmentalized— they had nothing if not time to unravel all the mysteries he wanted, including who had taken everything from him. ( though he suspects, in the back of their mind, a small clue in that silence— ) but time also allows for thoughts to sit and fester and the infection of them can grow to consume you. 

when silaqui had gone to trasnavda, min had chosen to not accompany her. trasnavda was an open wound in a festering mind and they knew that his focus would be as far from protecting the royal family as possible should he choose to return. there was a strange almost forgotten feeling of fear as well; a fear that should he return, he would have to solve that mystery, unable to compartmentalize it any longer. and for a while, he sticks to that decision... until he got bored. 

anyone who knows min-jun knows to expect such behavior. he’s arrived in trasnavda, to the keep where prisoners make a decent appetizer but the main courses move above— main courses and a path to justice for their family.
