HIGH chance of tropical development in NW Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico
A broad area of low pressure (Invest 97) in the NW Caribbean has a high chance of becoming a tropical storm then possibly a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico before making landfall late Thursday. The strike zone right now leans toward the Big Bend of Florida. There is still uncertainty since the system has not formed yet.

Mass exodus following evac orders ahead of upcoming hurricane milton.
The great migration of electrical line workers has begun.
Jim Cantore (weather channel) mentioned during one of his reports that's there's still tons of debris in the water from Helene, so that needs to be factored in to storm surge dangers, bc all that crap is gonna come in and beat the hell out of houses.

hurricane Milton and the after effects
Last year hurricane Milton hit Florida in October. This hurricane lasted from the fifth of October to the tenth and made landfall in Florida on October 10th. Major Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key at 8:30 PM EDT on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, as a category 3 hurricane. Milton approached Florida as an extremely dangerous category 5 hurricane before it encountered increasing wind shear. https://www.weather.gov/mlb/HurricaneMilton_Impacts.
Hurricane Milton hit Florida, Mexico, gulf Mexico and it was near Cuba. Hurricane Milton was an extremely destructive and powerful tropical cyclone which then become the second most intense Atlantic hurricane ever record over the Gulf of Mexico which is only behind hurricane Rita in 2005. Hurricane Milton made landfall on the west coast of the US state of Florida which was less than two weeks after hurricane Helene devastated the states big bend region. Hurricane was the thirteenth named storm, ninth hurricane, fourth major storm and second category five hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season hurricane Milton was the strongest tropical cyclone to occur worldwide in 2024. Hurricane Milton intensified rapidly into a category five hurricane the gulf of Mexico strongest late season storm on record. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/event-tracker/hurricane-milton-rapidly-intensifies-category-5-hurricane-becoming.
Hurricane Milton was the ninth hurricane of 2024 Atlantic hurricane season. It rapidly intensified into a category five storm in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday the 7th of October 2024. The storm exploded in strength and intensity  at a near record pace and becoming one of the most on record in the Atlantic basin. https://www.climate.gov/news-features/event-tracker/hurricane-milton-rapidly-intensifies-category-5-hurricane-becoming.
As the storm progressed people in Florida was told to evacuate and if they refused to leave or couldn’t leave, they were told to write their name date of birth and next of kin so the authorities knew who to contact if their bodies were found. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-florida-names-arms-bodies-b2627056.html.
Whilst they were told to get out some people couldn’t leave either because they didn’t have the money to get out or had to stay for their animals or that they couldn’t get out because gas stations were out of gas, or the roads were back upped so it would have taken more time to get out of Florida then it normally would. In one TikTok video a person in Florida said that a plane ticket out of Florida was 2000 dollars. Some of the people who couldn’t get put had livestock who couldn’t get them out of the state or to somewhere safe for them to leave. When telling people to leave joe Biden told the people of Florida that “it’s a matter of life and death and that’s not hyperbole” as he urged people those under evocation orders to leave “now now now”.  https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-florida-names-arms-bodies-b2627056.html.
Out of the sixty-seven counties in Florida fifteen of them issued evacuation orders to some of the residents stretching along much of the west coast from Collier County to Levy County.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-florida-names-arms-bodies-b2627056.html.
Even though the residents of Florida got told to leave some of the residents were determined to stay regardless of being told if they dint evacuate they would die and if they were refusing to leave or couldn’t leave they needed to write their names in permanent marker on their arms so that they could be identified when they were found after the hurricane Milton. As well as Biden urging people in Florida the attorney general of Florida Ashley moody also told people who were refusing to leave or who couldn’t leave “ you should probably find a permanent marker and write your name on so that people know who you are when they get to you afterwards”. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/09/floridians-refusing-flee-hurricane-told-write-names-arms/.
The evacuation order included many of the three point one million people who live in Tampa metropolitan area a dense cluster of low-lying communities along the coast and on the shelter islands of Tampa bay which has not been in a hurricane path in more than a century.  https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/09/floridians-refusing-flee-hurricane-told-write-names-arms/.
One man called matt heller who was 42 and a Tampa resident said he was planning to use his kayak and inflatable unicorn to ride out the storm with is girlfriend. “Better safe than sorry but this is where I plan to be.” He told CNN. “I have a life jacket I got some lights more battery packs I’m a lot more prepared and I’m hoping for the best so were just kind of hunkering down In place for the time being.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/09/floridians-refusing-flee-hurricane-told-write-names-arms/.
Another man in ST Petersburg Florida said he was panning to stay on his boat for the storm because he had nowhere else to go. “this is my home this is my everything this is all I have right now” he told CBS news. “as long as my mast don’t break or anything like that It will be alright. For the last one Helene I slept through the whole thing.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/09/floridians-refusing-flee-hurricane-told-write-names-arms/.
The mayor of Tampa also told the residents that if they dint evacuate the wouldn’t survive she also said “ Helene was a wake up call. This is literally catastrophic and I can say without any dramatization whatsoever if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas you’re going to die.” https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2024/10/09/floridians-refusing-flee-hurricane-told-write-names-arms/.
People were warned not to go sightseeing after hurricane Milton to help prevent more death due to hurricane Milton. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cglkd1l82g7t.
some of the people who were forced to leave Florida came back to their homes destroyed or badly flooded due to the hurricane and the debris that the storm picked up that was in its path. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cglkd1l82g7t.
After hurricane Milton the white house said that the US President Joe Biden would vest the areas in Florida that were affected by hurricane Milton. An emergency management official told the residents of Florida to stay clear as they don’t need them sightseeing as they are trying to clear the area. Also after hurricane Milton there were thousands of people who had to be rescued from flooded areas and over two million homes and business were out of power. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cglkd1l82g7t.
At least 16 people have been found dead after hurricane Milton passed through Florida all though the total number of deaths could rise as rescue workers make their way through the debris and flood waters from hurricane Milton. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cglkd1l82g7t.
As of the fifteenth of October 2024, hurricane Milton’s damages were still being unfolded this includes damages deaths and power outage but even with all this it was still the worse in the century. Hurricane Milton caused 3.4 million power outages and significant damage that still had to be determined by rescue crews and clean up crews and the residents as the got back to their homes after the hurricane. Amid the evacuation alerts for hurricane Milton people were warned this could be on of the most destructive and deadliest storms in recent years just as residents had started to pick up debris from the hurricane Helene that happened in September. Even though hurricane Milton strengthened over the Gulf of Mexico it did lessen before making landfall In Florida. Florida is no stranger to hurricanes with category four Helene wreaking havoc just a few weeks earlier. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-map-visuals-charts-figures-deaths-storm-damage-b2627468.html.
On Thursday the tenth of October the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis warned residents that they could see mire hurricane activity in the coming months. As the Atlantic hurricane season runs through to the end of November. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-map-visuals-charts-figures-deaths-storm-damage-b2627468.html/.
Whilst the storm decreases In October it is the third most active month of the season for tropical activity in the Atlantic basin according to FOX Weather. Hurricane Milton was the Gulf of Mexico strongest late season storm on record. It is also the strongest hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico since it got hit by hurricane rite in two thousand and five. Climate change has acted as a stimulant to marine heat weaves across the majority of the world and it ensures hurricanes to bring more intense rainfall which increases the storm surges that comes form the rising seas. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/hurricane-milton-map-visuals-charts-figures-deaths-storm-damage-b2627468.html.
When Cindy miller got back to her home in Florida she wasn’t sure on where to begin her cleanup at her home in Englewood Florida. This is because hurricane Milton had drenched her home and covered it in debris was everywhere. Much of the debris was not even hers. Some of the debris she came across was a sofa, doors, and shoes which littered her back yard along with debris left by hurricane Helene that had hit Florida a few weeks before Milton had hit.  She retired to Florida fifteen years ago and she is no seventy said “ you work all your life to live in paradise and a hurricane comes and kicks you right in the butt.” https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/13/us/hurricane-milton-helene-florida-north-carolina.html.
Because Florida is a sate where hurricanes are a normal part of life they avoided the worst case scenario unlike people who lived in north Carolina when it got hit by hurricane Helene as they are not used to dealing with hurricanes and so where much more un prepared for the storm. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/13/us/hurricane-milton-helene-florida-north-carolina.html.
Beth Zimmerman who led disaster operations for the federal emergency during the Obama administration and who is now an senior executive adviser with IEM and emergency management firm has said “hurricanes no longer hit the coast line and then die” “ everybody needs to be looking not what they experienced in the past but what is happening now in terms of hurricanes and extreme weather.” https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/13/us/hurricane-milton-helene-florida-north-carolina.html.
Both hurricane Milton and hurricane Helene tell a tale of how storms can be made more powerful by climate change can devastate regions with distinct hills valleys and rivers and varying levels of experience with hurricanes. And they can leave behind discrepant kinds of damage and dictate different trajectories of recovery after the storm hits. Also due to storms like Helene and Milton being stronger and longer due to hurricanes no longer dyeing when they hit landfall more people in states where they don’t usually get hurricanes need to start thinking about what ways they would need to prepare for a storm or hurricane to hit them regardless of if they don’t normal get them. Ms. Zimmerman Offred one example “Helene buckled and washed away many roads in Asheville and the surrounding rural mountain communities initially isolating storm victims and slowing assistance. Milton which made landfall late Wednesday the 8th of October downed trees and power lines and scattered debris but left most roads intact. Dr. Lackman saif “ if the storms are stronger because of climate change then they’re more likely to spread farther inland”. That he said will likely, mean rebuilding with flood resistant roads on the future. Whilst Florida’s budling codes have long been able to account for the rounds of powerful storms that lash the state every hurricane season they likely lessened the impact of Milton DR. Pilkington said Asheville and western North Carolina have not had to build with such high risk in mind.  Milton pummelled coastal and island communities but it spared the sates most densely populated regions. It also spawned a tornado out break including one that tore through a retirement community north of fort pierce killing six people. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/13/us/hurricane-milton-helene-florida-north-carolina.html.
More than one million customers were still without power on Saturday the eleventh. Floridians are now returning to their homes facing an uncertain recovery that has seen some grappling with damage from two storms In two weeks. In the days before Milton arrived officials issued a dire warning find a safe space either inside or outside of Florida prompting one of the largest evacuations in the state’s history. Officials across Florida said there were at least 10 deaths tied to hurricane Milton and the tornadoes that accompanied it as they surveyed the damage in their areas on Thursday third of October 2024 through republican Gov. Ron DeSantis cautioned there was not yet an official count. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mollybohannon/2024/10/10/hurricane-milton-caused-at-least-10-deaths-several-due-to-tornadoes/.
DeSantis said there were at least five confirmed deaths in St. Lucie County Florida which he said had the worst tornado damage in the state at a press conference shortly after noon EDT on the third of October, but he noted there was not yet an official statewide death toll. St. Petersburg chief of police Anthony Holloway said in a Thursday morning press conference there were two storm related deaths in the city one of which was a medical incident and the other was someone that was found in a park. https://www.forbes.com/sites/mollybohannon/2024/10/10/hurricane-milton-caused-at-least-10-deaths-several-due-to-tornadoes/.
The international medica corps UK are responding to hurricane Milton. There response is that the international medical corps deployed an emergency response to the state on Wednesday September 25th in advance of hurricane Helene’s arrival to coordinate closely with the department of health on response activities. Our teams has remained on the ground to help local healthcare partners including federally qualified health centres which serve low income and other vulnerable populations and we continue to provide humanitarian relief helping recover from Milton. https://internationalmedicalcorps.org.uk/emergency-response/hurricane-milton/.
In preparation for hurricane Milton’s landfall the Florida division of emergency management asked them to keep a mobile medical unit mission ready package on standby. As part of the standby procedures international medical corps readied all MRP assets including clinical and operational within 48 hours of a request by FDM. They also prepositioned medical equipment, and supplies continue to assess critical needs in communities and continue to work with out FQHC partners to support relief and recovery efforts. My sister's school (she's a teacher, not a student) kinda got screwed with the book fair this time. The book fair started with Hurricane Helene hitting, which didn't hit us but I'm sure affected many student's more extended families, and then we did get hit by Milton and many locals lost power for a while and thus food and stuff, so not much extra money for 'extras' like books.
Our family has paid for some of the books she had on her wish list for her students, but I'm relatively sure those are the only books anyone has bought using the digital store front. There's a tracker on the page showing the school's goal (they get a percentage or bonus or something) and it's only got the amount our family has bought. The fundraiser is over before most people will get paid again. It sucks for the school, they're at about 6% of the goal.

Storm Tracker: Tropical Storm Leslie weakens as the next system set to develop will be named Nadine
As west-central Florida deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton and the Southeast continues recovering from Helene, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring the next potential storm, which will be named Nadine.
Climate and Average Weather Year Round in 85249 Chandler AZ:
https://www.behance.net/gallery/202817943/Weather-Forecast-For-85249-Chandler-AZ
Forecasters had been tracking a developing system off Florida's east coast, but it dissipated before reaching tropical storm strength.
Attention is now on a system in the eastern tropical Atlantic, located a few hundred miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands off Africa's coast. The system is moving westward and could develop into a tropical depression. However, significant development isn't expected until at least mid-next week, with a 40% chance of formation over the next seven days, according to the NHC.
According to AccuWeather forecasters, the tropics near the U.S. could remain quiet for most of next week. However, there is a medium risk of tropical development forecasted for Thursday, Oct. 17, to Saturday, Oct. 19, in the western Caribbean—the same region where Helene and Milton formed.
A gyre, a large area of spinning air currents, is expected to develop over Central America next week. "Within this large, slowly rotating low-pressure area, a more defined zone of showers and thunderstorms may emerge, potentially leading to the formation of a tropical depression or storm," said Alex DaSilva, AccuWeather's lead hurricane expert.
youtube
Where is Tropical Storm Leslie? Tropical Storm Leslie was designated on Oct. 2 and briefly strengthened into Hurricane Leslie before weakening back to a tropical storm on Thursday. As of Saturday, the National Hurricane Center reported that Leslie, located about 975 miles west-southwest of the Azores, had degenerated into a trough and posed no threat to the U.S. Leslie is currently producing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph with higher gusts, and the NHC expects it to gradually weaken over the next few days. Tropical Storm Leslie Spaghetti Models: These models are various forecast tools, but not all are of equal accuracy. The National Hurricane Center relies on the top four or five highest-performing models to guide its forecasts.
When does the 2024 hurricane season end?
The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30, leaving just over seven weeks remaining. So far, 13 named storms have formed, with the next ones to be named Nadine and Oscar.
After a relatively quiet period of about five weeks, the 2024 season became above average with the arrival of hurricanes Helene and Milton, according to Colorado State University meteorologist Phil Klotzbach.

With an Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) index of 127—a metric that accounts for storm frequency, intensity, and duration—the 2024 season now "officially meets NOAA's definition of an above-normal season," Klotzbach noted on X Wednesday.

Another tropical storm had developed in the Caribbean and could potentially follow the same path that Helene did. Two back to back storms would be catastrophic.
Ryan Hall on Youtube is a really excellent sourse for storm coverage and has been posting updates on the storm's development and where it's likely to go. He’s also fundraising aid for Appalachia right now. Last I heard, they're looking into ways to airdrop supplies into areas that have been completely cut off by flooding.
I think they’re underreporting the sheer amount of damage Helene has caused. Entire towns are gone. 50 confirmed deaths already. Down power lines everywhere. Emergency responders are swamped. Stoplights are out. There’s a down live power line at the bottom of my mom’s mountain and the sheriff is like “yeah, I know. we called the power company and they’re not going shit.”

Hurricane Helene 2024: Will Florida Survive This Deadly Storm
Tumblr media
Tropical Storm Helene is strengthening rapidly and will possibly become a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico in the near future. Projections suggest Hurricane Helene will reach the landfall later this week, causing potentially lethal impacts to Florida and the Northern Gulf Coast. It is suggested that the people be ready for potentially harmful storm surges, intense rain, and powerful winds.
Helene's Track and Intensity
According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Helene is coming in west of Jamaica in the Western Caribbean Sea, and it is likely that it will transform into Hurricane Helene by Wednesday. Current models are projecting that she will make landfall along Big Bend or Panhandle in Florida by Thursday, yet further clarification on the track still poses uncertainty. The entire Gulf Coast is on alert because many spaghetti models indicate that the storm could affect areas from Florida to Louisiana.
Storm Surge and Heavy Rain: Effects of Storm Threat Impacts
The primary threats from Hurricane Helene include storm surge, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding. Areas from Florida's Gulf Coast should begin experiencing effects by Wednesday, as reported by the Florida hurricane tracker. According to the Florida hurricane tracker, the Keys, Tampa, and Orlando are expected as well to see major amounts of rain and wind. In specific regions, storms resulting in more than 12 inches of rain may cause floods. Flooding may become a problem as the storm moves inland, affecting not just the Gulf Coast but also the interior regions of Georgia, Alabama, and other Southeastern states.

Hurricane Helene 2024 Florida and Gulf Coast Prepare for Impact
Gulf Waters' Warmth Is Driving Hurricane Helene's Growth
Warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico, near a record high, are actually one of the main reasons why Hurricane Helene is likely to be a powerful hurricane. This warm water will probably help Hurricane Helene become at least a Category 3 hurricane. The NHC advises those in the Gulf Coast region to pay attention and prepare. Preparing for Hurricane Helene. Expect evacuations in Florida and along the Gulf Coast as storm surges are anticipated to strike in these locations; prepare with emergency kits and secure your property before these evacuations become necessary due to further orders. Check the NOAA Hurricane Tracker and other weather services for current conditions. For those interested, the following sources also have further advice on safe travel and preparation for every kind of weather. If you plan to travel during or after the storm, you may also want to read up on the  best time to visit Antigua.  .
Conclusion: Stay Safe and Informed
As Hurricane Helene approaches,Residents of Florida and any other state along the Gulf Coast have no reason at all to take this storm lightly, especially because it may make landfall on Thursday and is as likely to be a Category 3 hurricane. There's no time to put things off. One needs to be safe, informed, and act. (Source: The Weather Channel ) Read the full article

now that we're starting to see the aftermath and damage done throughout southern appalachia in places like chimney rock (which does not have the infrastructure for this kind of natural disaster. the last time something comparable like this happened was the flood in 1916) please be ready to combat this victim-blaming narrative that will no doubt be weaponized against the people suffering here.
mudslides and flooding will continue even though the storm has passed, and this time following natural disasters like this is the hardest as more people are lost or left struggling without power, aid, or any way to contact help or family.
we go through this every hurricane season but the way people will find any excuse to point the finger at the victims of natural disasters and say cruel shit like "fuck around and find out" like it's not horrifying having to leave behind your home and all your belongings and potentially your pets with the full knowledge that there might not be anything to come back to after... ignoring that there are people that don't have a car or the money to evacuate, ignoring disabled people who have no way to get out, ignoring people that can't find places for their pets to shelter, ignoring people that have medical equipment that can't be moved or replaced, etc... and even if someone stays behind solely because they want to, they still don't deserve to suffer.
as someone who worked extensively in disaster response previously, it is not easy to "just" evacuate, and the relief that comes afterwards is intentionally difficult to obtain. and already the forces that be are trying to spin this narrative that the victims are at fault, to put the blame on them so that if (probably when) people are forced to resort to looting (because the aid never comes) everyone will nod and agree that they're all bad people and deserved it... rather than acknowledging the fact that there was no attempt to make the evacuation accessible and safe for everyone, no guarantee that aid will be waiting for them when they return to a home that has been swept away... no empathy for the fact that these people's entire lives are potentially destroyed with no safety net to catch them.
