Truly one of the best character vid I've seen. Immaculately edited with a perfect song as the running track. This is Ling Buyi in his very essence; ruthless, brutal, cunning, and unhinged. His physicality and fighting efficiency is undeniable.
Brilliant no, @stirfriedgoddess ?

Aaaaaa, @dreamyklutzsblog linked me to this MV of LBY and I am dying.
Def my favorite character of 2022 so far!

The many names of Ling Buyi
I have been griping that on AO3, the tag for stupidface YSJ includes his birthname AND his courtesy name, but for Ling Buyi? Just that. A name not his with the name of the family he wanted to wipe off the face of the planet. On one hand, yay for a spoiler-free AO3, but on the other...what if I wanted to write or read a fic with A'Li? What am I supposed to do then?
I wanted to add another name, but here is the problem. THIS MAN HAS TOO MANY NAMES. I realize in cdramas this is a thing, but this man takes it to a whole new level.
Here is a list.
Ling Buyi (his cousin's name and assumed identity for most of the story)
Huo Wushang (his birth name)
A'Zheng (his childhood name)
Ling/Huo Zisheng (his courtesy name, which we'll be nice and call 1 name instead of 2)
A'Li (his cousin's birth name, which we hear used to refer to him several times before we realize it's not his)
Huo Buyi (his chosen name post-reveal)
Shiyi Lang (Eleventh Young Master, which some of the subs omitted, but also very much a thing people use to refer to him)
Anyway I'm thinking I'll just try to start pushing the tag "Ling Buyi | Huo Zisheng" to cover as much territory as possible without overwhelming the system

True revenge is ruthless, threw away everything including yourself, your happiness. Never regretting but feeling the pain, the conflicting emotions. Ling Buyi, Huo Wushang, Huo Buyi. These multitude of layers made my 2022. 👏

Masterfully done!
like a Greek Tragedy... an Operatic Death
This episode!!!.. even the drumming as Shaoshang tries to leave the manor, but most especially... from the moment they arrived to the banquet... the set, the lighting, the colours, the music score, the aural mood that greatly heightens the viewers emotions, the body movements... GLORIOUSLY SUBLIME!!!
Even the menacing laugh as he slowly walks towards Ling Yi... the syllable by syllable - clearly enunciated name, the crunch as the sword penetrates the flesh and the ‘schwing’ of the sword as it slices Ling Yi’s neck, the bodily attitude, the blurring and focusing again, the slow motion as he lets go of the Marquis’s head...  Devastatingly beautiful!
So unhinged, it’s perfect!
and at the end, a brief moment of disbelief and then, a cathartic release of emotion. It’s done! The slightest flash of joy immediately extinguished with sadness and grief. Unbridled tears come. The blood, tears, snot, saliva... it’s not pretty, but somehow very necessary!* It’s like being brought to a journey of complex emotions while the heart is being ripped out and at the same time awestruck as you watch.
*Apparently this was Wu Lei’s sugestion, don’t know if it’s true. Too lazy to look it up.
Tumblr media
At certain angles, his face looks gaunt, immaciated, skeletal even. Here he looks deranged... immaculately put together, not a hair out of place, controlled... but he looks deranged nevertheless.
I don’t know if this is by design... after all the carnage, he is still put together, just a few strands of hair out of place, a few rips on the clothes. I like the disparity of somehow still immaculate but with blood spatter everywhere.
Tumblr media
And can I just say, A’Fei and A’Qi’s sacrifice are no less than anybody elses! Such devotion! Such loyalty! I love them! I was bawlin’ when he told them, “Please stay alive.”  I’ve wondered if they knew for years who he really was, but that might have been too risky. I’m inclined to think that they didn’t until around Shaoshang knew or just slightly before/after. Judging from the Third Prince’s reaction when Shaoshang revealed to the court that he was Huo Chongs son, I don’t think he knew either.
A number times** I have watched this and still as impactful as the first time  when it was released back in mid(ish) August. Episode 48 was... just... firecrackers blowing up in my head!!!!... The freakin dramagods delivered!!! I was awestruck and still am after rewatching.
**I watch episodes on different websites. It gives me the option of different subtittles because some of the dialogues are interpreted so differently, some actually changes the narrative! By and by, I think subs on Viki gives more information especially on traditions, social ranks, what those ranks mean, refers to what litterature, colloquialisms, etc., etc. Little details that we would otherwise miss when only refering to the subs on other websites.

Infuriated by the absolute cold shoulder Wu Lei was given at the Weibo awards for his stunning and heart-shattering portrayal of Huo Wushang Ling Buyi. Like, what the ever-living nonsense is that? Zhao Lusi was marvelous, but LLTG wouldn't have been LLTG without Wu Lei /periodt.

Ling Buyi used the tiger seal without authorization, disrupted the military defense, and held the intention of treason. These are unpardonable crimes. Today, if he dares to take a step through this door… kill him without mercy!

Personal Impression: Love Like The Galaxy (2022).
Tumblr media
56 episode, with an happy ending.
I LOVE IT.
The story. The characters. The romance. The angst. The tears. The comedy. The action. The boldness. Straight to the point plot. The color tone. The soundtracks.
Everything are truly well done. Even the cringe romantic words exchanges that I don't mind at all. 😁
Just like in my early impression post, Love Like The Galaxy has shown me the beauty of love. About being loved and to be in love. The feeling to be cherished, to be trusted, to be care, to be listen, to be respected, to be what we are, to be protected.
Also, as the story goes, the beautiful changes from cheerful and playful Shaoshang to her soft and mature version. The changes from a stern and stoic Ling Buyi into his gentle and soft manner. Shaoshang has become stronger, while Buyi has become softer (in a good way). The changing because of love. 💚
The side characters were also quite entertaining, especially Emperor Wen. As an Emperor, it seemed he was more concerned about Buyi's love life than about the country. Emperor Wen is truly the president of Yishang's fandom (🤣). His Empress and Consort were also in good terms. They treat each other well (although the Empress has to hide her feelings whenever she sees the Emperor being more favor with Consort Yue). No confusing palace intrigue whatsoever.
I also come to understand Shaoshang's broken heart after Buyi's revenge plan. It's because she was left without knowing anything. What people said as an act of love from Buyi to Shaoshang were actually being carefully designed by Buyi for his revenge plan. No wonder Shaoshang felt so heart broken with Buyi--the one she trusted so much.
Being left behind without knowing anything, clueless, confused, and can only wild guessing ... it's really not a great feeling to have.
At the end of the episode, my impression for this drama are still the same. To be in love, to be loved, and to be protected are indeed beautiful feelings.
And, just like Wu Lei has said in his farewell video as Ling Buyi, hopefully we will find the person that will accompany us walk this world. Someone who would said, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."

The person who can channel the dark tormented soul that is Ling Buyi is actually cute and bubbly IRL. Fascinating.

Okay, I've calmed down a bit- but only a bit! I think I'm a little bit obsessed with how Zisheng cracks a very dangerous, teetering on the edge of madness smile before he unleashes his rage on his pretend-father-uncle? Just that one bit where he smirks when the old fart says "you haven't come all this way just to kill dear old daddy, have you?🥺"
I also don't know if I've ever experienced anything so gratifying as when he utters his name syllable by syllable, while he slowly, ever so slowly slices the uncle's throat? Most cathartic. Honestly, I wasn't feeling too bad about what LBY, forgive me, HBY did until we skipped to 5 years later and the pining and hurt hit like a mothertrucker. I really appreciate the portrayal of vengeance as something true and right, although not necessarily good and healthy- DECIDEDLY unhealthy, actually- but yeah, you get the point. I like that this narrative doesn't twist and go out of its way to go 'oh but what about moral high ground?' like, mydude's already out there being unfilial and scheming and cunning according to most of society - it would be out of character NOT to seek revenge, regardless of the reason.
I was extremely mad on Shao Sheng's behalf about the whole lying bit, because same. I got even more mad when the 3rd Price intervened? My guy, you may be a prince and slowly growing on me while I've also steadily begun to dislike the crown prince ever so steadily, but this is sooo not your place and you know this. Back to Zisheng- why lie when you clearly can't hide it? And it does shine a light from a very different angle on the whole dealio. Like, yes, we know BuYi's been sincere and opportunistic with Niaoniao but it really doesn't change the fact that in hindsight it would feel manipulative and untruthful, especially when she's clever enough to figure it out the moment the perspective shifts by a grain of rice. He really spun her world around- it's so simple like JUST! SAY IT! I'M AN IMPATIENT AND PRACTICAL PERSON THAT EXPECTS YOU TO DO THE CORRECT THING BECAUSE I WOULD, BECAUSE I THINK THE WORLD OF YOU- JUST FUCKING SAY IT- please gods don't lie to me I will puke, just confirm what I already know so the information will be MINE to deal with and you're not part of my personal decision making process anymore, don't leave me hanging by this fraying thread.
Okay clearly this got very personal, I'm certainly not as calm as I'd like to be
In other musings! Niaoniao and mumma make up! There is still hope and light in the world!
Oh wait! The Empress died and Zisheng's distant from the Emperor and A'Heng baby cried. FUCKING PULL THE BLINDS OVER THE LIGHT, I NEED ANOTHER SOB. MY FACE IS ALREADY SWOLLEN, WHAT'S A LITTLE MORE?

Guys...my inability to follow the complex family dynamics may have accidentally led to me uncovering the plot twist in Love Like the Galaxy...
So the version I watched pretty early on refers to Ling Buyi’s ‘foster father’. Now they were talking about the Emperor but I didn’t know that, so when Ling Yi shows up and everyone starts referring to him as Ling Buyi’s father, I assumed that he was the foster father.
And who did I think was Ling Buyi’s father? Well they kept talking about some guy named General Huo and he had that traumatic broken sword, bodies in the rain flashback so I was like aaah, he is General Huo’s son, who was adopted by his aunt and uncle after his death (and I was almost right).
(I figured out I was wrong like somewhere around the 15-20 mark, pls don’t judge me)

Hollow...
Desolate...
Wanting to die but too guilty to deserve death.
“When I was in the Northwest, I fought day and night in hope that my chest would be pierced by a sword so I could die on the battlefield. But I dared not to die. I haven’t been able to make her let go of her resentment. How could I just die?”
