open starter location: minnie's dance hall

The cup in his hand was filled with water; Lance really just felt more at ease holding something, and it seemed like most everyone else was drinking, so he preferred to keep up the illusion that he was fitting in with everyone else. Leaning casually against the bar as he watched others dance, observing thoughtfully until someone stepped up beside him.

"You think I'll look totally lame if I go and dance by myself?"

at 4:26pm, the ground began to shake.

many people feared that it was another earthquake, but instead, the crack down the center of main street exploded.

water shot out, twenty feet high, raining down on those gathered for the festival. the liquid sizzled upon contact, burning skin, not enough to kill or eat through, but enough to leave a red stinging mark. people scrambled for cover as the water continued to bubble up, covering the town streets like waves washing up onto shore before sliding back into the crack, only to bubble up again.

this continued for fifteen minutes, and the flooding continued from the amount of water that moved through town. those not quick enough to get to higher ground were sucked back toward the crack at alarming speeds in the retreating current. one such unfortunate individual was Andrew Richardson. the water pulled him down into the crack before anyone could grab him, and he did not resurface.

once the geyser finally stopped, the sucking stopped as well, and the standing water in the first floors and basements of various businesses and homes along the four roads of main street remained, three feet deep.

the sun was setting. there wasn't enough time to wade through the burning liquid to get home. communication throughout the town via telephone and walkie talkie recommended everyone shelter in place until the morning, when the water would hopefully have retreated into the crack or the town workers could find a way to drain the liquid.

the only homes left untouched were the ones far off the beaten path, including the Commune.

((the next morning, the water will be 2.5 feet deep. you can use a height comparison chart to see where that will land on your various characters. getting home will be difficult but not impossible. the water burns but does not eat through skin so it is survivable, it just hurts and skin that contacts will be red for a while. water damage has been done to every building on main street, which includes most if not all the businesses, including all of the vendor booths.

He's not attending to any sort of job, at least not for the ball it seems, instead dressed up like the other attendees, clad in black and a host of latex, furs and leather, October Roulette's old hat at being taken to parties like this- and not going home by himself afterward.

For the festival... Sol has been painting a lot since he arrived. He's willing to sell his work, but would rather trade it for another local artists work/some homemade handicraft or provision/in exchange for a service or, even, a good conversation. On all of Sol’s paintings theres a little poem written on the back, on the bottom right corner. Sometimes their longer, sometimes their very short, sometimes its not even a poem its just really pretty words… You can catch him at his booth with a mug of tea and a book. For the ball... Please keep in mind that while Sol knows he should be involved with community events when they happen (and as such would have come to the ball briefly), if it were not for Sydney insisting they match he would not have dressed as "nicely" (or spent as much time on the mask). They are both paying tribute to Grace Jones. Sol made the moon mask out of paper mache.

She had been so excited about the ball - but now Delphi just felt vulnerable and naked, standing alone in the dance hall. She hadn't thought to ask Denny to accompany her, but now she wishes she had.

"Are you here alone too?" Her voice wavered a little as she spoke up to the person who was standing closest to her. "I've never really been to anything like this before. I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake."

Welcome to Huntsville's first ever Art Festival! Please enjoy the various art stalls set up along main street, along with the art installations created by our very own residents. There will be live music and adult refreshments available.

The festival starts at 8am and will conclude at 5pm. However, there will also be a dance held at Minnie's Dancehall, starting at 3pm. The theme is Avant-Garde, and we look forward to seeing the outfits that everyone will wear. The bar will be open as well, of course. For anyone who wishes to stay past sunset, cots are available in the storage room of the dancehall.

We know that spirits may be low considering the recent tragedies, however we hope that everyone will enjoy each other's creativity in a way that is up-lifting.

((the event will takes place ooc from April 20th to May 4th. you can begin posting your characters' outfits from now until the end of the event, using the tag "huntsvilleattire." once the event starts, please use the tag "huntsvilleevent06" for open starters. the plot drop will take place on April 27th. the event ic will only be the day of the 20th.))

Wren has at least determined there's a handful of pros to her father's constant distraction and more prevalent want for her to be her own person, instead of his capable shadow- one of them certainly being that with him electing to stay home with Claire and Robin for the Ball- she can really dress however she wants. Clad in white, purple and gold, Wren handmade much of her costume herself, adorned in false 'porcelain' on her corset, ringing tall boots, and draping her neck, shoulders, and the perhaps far shorter than it should be skirt, she's eye catching- in a way that is clearly intentional, if she gets anything out of the ball, it'll be a good few drinks- and some well-deserved attention after what certainly feels like a lifetime trying to blend in.

For the festival... For once I have more to talk about with Sol than Sydney. Syd is not doing any day drag like he might want to. He's trying to save as much make up as he can given his current circumstances. He'll be buzzing around, enjoying the day (only occassionally bothering his brother) and chatting with any and everyone. For the ball... A more subdued look for Sydney, maybe because he hasn't been feeling himself. He twisted Sol's arm into coming to the ball with him for similar reasons, not wanting to be alone and what good was having a twin if you couldn't be ~the moment~ together... Still, he towers in his heels. As mentioned, they're both referencing Grace Jones. Though Sydney didn't help Sol with the construction of the actual garment, to his credit, he did make the hat all by himself. He can be crafty too (sometimes) tyvm.
