On this day, April 13, 2024, Jamie Brennan and Clara Jones came together in holy matrimony. The service and reception were held at Martha Mae's Bed and Breakfast, with a large group in attendance on both the bride and the groom's side. The party lasted well into the afternoon, with many having to stay at the B&B overnight. It's wonderful to see that in the midst of so much tragedy, there are still times of joy and laughter and our community coming together to celebrate love.
As many of the residents know, the romance between these two has not always been easy. However, they persevered and are a testament to the hope of enduring love. We wish them many happy years together. Congratulations!

It was chaos. Absolute chaos. Whatever creature of the deep that had decided to turn up was wrecking the whole point of a peaceful beach outing. Eliza quickly went to usher people out and told them to get into town and away from danger. She watched horrified though as Henry was whisked away and it seemed to cause more of a panic among everyone. She got knocked down while trying to help and groaned as she sat up. Someone had for sure trampled on her wrist. "Fuck, ok. Ok look we have to get into town," she said to her nearest company.

Chris had finally made his way to the bar, It wasn't the best idea but with Lach acting the way was Chris needed Something to help him loosen up. It was only fair that help himself loosen up, however in his quest to find his own he found himself alone. Talking stock of the people around he turned to the man near by and waved to him "Are you having hard time enjoying yourself as well?"

Ren Faire // Olivia Hart // @crazedhatesoul
It had been a while since he'd seen this woman stood staring blankly into the depths of the forest, and while he hadn't managed to comfort her as much as he wanted to back then, she at least seemed in higher spirits today at the faire, even if that joy was only performative. "Hey," he said, approaching her from the side and not wanting to startle her, "we uh...we met the other day. Just wanted to check on you, but didn't know how to find you before."

The whole ghosts of the past thing was real. Though sometimes, only one party wished to confront that kind of reunion. Clara had been avoiding Whitney for who knew how long by that point, and it was frustrating. So whenever the blonde noticed her childhood friend around the festival, she decided to take the chance. And hopefully Clara wouldn't just book it. "Hey," Whit greeted, managing a smile though their jaw tightened.
"So... are you still doing that thing?" The question came, and she raised an eyebrow. "You know, that thing you've been doing where you pretend not to know me and try to avoid me like I'm the embodiment of the plague?"

With the orchard coming back into season, the portion of the Romero clan patriarched by Duck Romero didn't have much time to work on a floral display, but with Wren in her late teens, Robin finally old enough to help out, and Duck wanting to at least try and keep his position of 'one of the more personable Romero siblings, all things considered' They haven't skipped out on making an appearance. Vending instead of presenting this year out of a modified trailer, Wren has spent much of her free time before the event making sweets, fruit tarts and drinks with edible flowers. They're not exactly free, as everything at the booth is for sale for either a donation to town, or a trade to the Romeros directly- but Wren's not above slipping a friend from town a free sample, here and there.
Brute and Robin Have filled their slot at the trailer with floral collars and crowns for the town's pets, the aging leonberger a gleeful model, and Robin a dutiful craftsman of paper flowers that won't immediately get destroyed when the pets shake off- they're premade, but most will find Robin still eagerly working away with scrapbook and construction paper, as well as little wooden beads and leather, provided by his father for the displays.
Duck himself hasn't skipped on finding something to occupy himself as well, though- selling brightly painted, carved wooden animals and sculptures with various additions (Leather cord for pendants/bracelets, some hollowed to rattle/on wheels for children to play with) and custom pencil and charcoal sketches of attendees of the festival in their spring best- simple and quick, but a reflection of a moment in time, nonetheless. He seems to be in higher spirits than usual, as well- his flask nowhere to be found on his person.

With Cabell being so down it took some convincing from Rosa and Co. to get him to start working on his display for the flower festival. Parked outside the church on Main, Cab flooded his old truck with flowers (with help from Marcel to keep him focused and see that he actually submitted his application for the judging). Out of the back he will be giving out small hand tied stems to folk on the condition that they pass it on and make someone else day.
Bojangles of course is there as well, in his flower crown.

Knightley wasn't planning on dressing up at all. Least till Xander caught him on the way out and dragged him into a room to get him dressed up. He spent his first day getting dragged around by Xander to quote 'have a chill day at the faire'. Other than when he's not still back at the Commune seeing patients, he's just wandering. "Think it look cool if we rolled your sleeves up." "Yea, I'm not doing that." "And I am rolling them right back down."

the party was nearly over when it came . . .
a massive undulating tentacle, at least five feet thick and twenty feet long, burst forth from the center of the square of buoys that sectioned off the portal in the lake. it was a deep blue, like the sky at sunset, and it swished around in a way that appeared it was searching. screams followed, as everyone scrambled to get out of the water and away from the shore. music abruptly stopped. families shouted each other's names. it was chaos.
the tip of the tentacle whipped out, sending people, canoes, and tubes flying as it swished back and forth and knocked them around. the lifeguards did their best to help people out of the water, as officers, rangers, first responders, and other volunteers helped guide people away from the lake and into the woods toward town before evacuating themselves.
during this valiant effort, the tentacle managed to find a victim. officer Hank MacGillivray was lifted off his feet, the tentacle wrapped around his waist, holding him tight. with incredible swiftness, the tentacle disappeared back into the water, pulling Hank down with it.
multiple lifeguards jumped in after him, but it was too late. the water settled and the portal lay dormant with no sign of Hank or the tentacle.
as quickly as it appeared, it was gone.
((the end of the event has been extended to sunday, august 4th, to account for the delay. if you choose to start any new event threads set after this plot drop, please post them before saturday 11:59pm pst. all event threads may continue until their natural conclusion, and you may transition them to post-plot drop without starting a new thread at any time.
if you wish one or a few of your characters to have been injured in the chaos and stampede to evacuate, that's fine but please keep them minor to moderate (for example: bumps, bruises, gashes (that require stitches or not), and broken bones are all fair game. near-drownings are also acceptable). if you wish one or a few of your characters to have been a volunteer helping people evacuate, that's also fine if it's something the character would've done.
the portal still leads to the cave if any of the lifeguards attempt to follow Hank. however, there will be no sign of Hank or the tentacle in the cave and nothing will look disturbed. it will be like it never happened, except Hank is definitely gone. rip.
we are now at the halfway mark.))

Freya was trying her best to enjoy herself, she was finally starting to get there. Grabbing another drink and making her way over to the group before running into a tall figure. "Oh my apologies ...I guess I better cut myself off..." she laughed before looking up to him and smiled softly "I didn't spill on you did I?"

Ren Faire // Dahlia Cruz-Dutton // @callofthxvoid
Dahlias truly were the most beautiful, both in terms of the flower and the person, easy to spot as she wandered through the booths at the faire. He took one last drag of his cigarette, stamping it out on the ground as he thought over his words carefully one last time, approaching the woman. "Dahlia, my darling," he smiled, placing a hand gentle against her back, "long time no see. How are you after-" a hesitant pause, "-everything?"

location: flower festival characters: wesley & whitney @ofxlilac
"Wesley Reeves. I literally just finished the Back to the Future series. Last night, mind you," Whitney pointed out, wearing a pretty flower crown someone gave her earlier as she peered across the table at her friend. "And you're telling me you already have a whole new list for me to watch?" A sigh was released at the exhausting thought, glancing back at the festival flyers in their hands. "Of course you do... I'm still not ranking everything in a tier list, though. So quit nagging me about it."
Whit rolled their eyes, but the smile that appeared was genuine and couldn't be hidden. It was hard for her to actually be annoyed with Wesley. He had a way of making her smile and laugh even during times she didn't want to.
