For some reason I decided to make a visual guide for potential influences for each of the Humblewood races.
I figured that people who are considering buying the setting on DnD Beyond that don't have access to the Variant Rule: Different Looks for Birdfolk and Humblefolk section of the book/PDF (pages 32 - 34) might like something like this. Most of these choices are either mentioned by name in these pages or are part of a family of animals mentioned.

Humblewood you say 👀
*cries for the forbidden redwall-themed adventures i will never have*
everyone wants to be a tiefling, no one wants to meet my mole npc Broi'emder Snufflemuck, or help them get a cargo of bread safely through the forest to feed the displaced humblefolk (and smuggle weapons to the bandits via very large baguettes)
they're also uninterested in Ruwan Berrybough, tall dumb jock lesbian stag former bandit, who had a religious experience and wants to be a druid now, but needs to go tell her raven tavern keeper girlfriend all about it first (and doesn't understand why anyone would still want to arrest her when she's going to go be a monk anyway)
and by "everyone" i mean the 4 ppl i have access to for table top experiments, bc they are related to me and live nearby ;_;

Story Time
Viv has a long history of talking enemies into better life decisions. From talking half the mooks in the first encounter into running away, to convincing a trio of cultist into openly betraying their leaders, to getting a necromancer to turn against their creations.
But the incident for today is the time that Viv stole an army.
I don't know how much of this is Humblewood standard and how much is the DM responding to player action, but I'll try to keep the set-up brief in either case. The game starts with what is simplest and most accurate to call a civil war. A civil war between four faction that people like to pretend is 3 factions that the regional government likes to pretend is 2 factions 1. the self reviving fire elemental burning up the north west 2. the rebel extremists who, at least by the end, are fully "fuck everyone who isn't us" 3. the rebel moderates whose primary concern is the Equity of Humblefolk 4. The overwhelmingly birdfolk regional government who have abjectly failed at dealing with any of this
One could argue that this story begins with the first encounter of the game when the party killed the future extremist leader allowing their transformation into a revenant and murder of their less devoted minions. One could also argue it began with Viv pushing for dedicated firefighting forces or a diplomat from the rebel moderates telling the party to fix the problem we caused.
But let us open in the war room. We had our destination, we had the backing of two guard companies, all we needed was a plan, and to pull it off. The Guard wanted to go in, hard and fast, and butcher them all.
Viv argued once, twice, thrice that we must give them an out. We must give the common people a way back to wider society. That a battle to extermination was a struggle we could ill afford.
The rest were less than convinced. insisting on a command to surrender issued by someone else. As if surrender is the same as a path to redemption. As if Surrender is the same as an offer to stand hand in hand in brotherhood against the end.
So we went, Viv down in the thick of it with the guard and the much more mobile rest of the party assaulting the revenant captain directly. The call to surrender predictably failed, and the battle was on.
Soon enough the rebel lieutenants were down and despite the revenant still fighting up above, moral was shaken and Viv saw their chance casting an illusion to amplify the speech they'd had ready the entire time and stepping forward to address not the captain, but the common people, "Humblefolk of the Humblewoods, [The Revenant Captain] would lead you to your deaths or else butcher you for daring to wish to survive."
The Captain noticed Viv then, and gave an order for their death that fell on deaf ears
Viv continued undaunted, "I call to you to throw down your arms and join me. Join me in fighting the fires that threaten our homes. The fires that threaten us all. Join me for Life. For love. For those we have lost and those who yet remain. Help Me. Help them. Help You. Help us all."
And it worked. Viv stole the revenant's army, and when an army of volunteers show up at your door, you put them to work.
Why you should vote for each of them and full art below!
Vivandere "Viv" Monteblac (by @aroace-sunbro for Dungeons & Dragons)
(image created by @aroace-sunbro with Hero Forge)
This fox kid* is four and a half feet of anti-authoritarian gremlin energy. Probably best know for almost single-handedly strong-arming the regional government into peace talks with a rebelling army, vetoing fights through clever tactics and superior mobility, and accidentally surviving saving the region. Also, their canon gender is "What are you, a cop?" Also, also, accidentally on purpose blew themself up magicking their sword. *technically an adult
Amalthea (by @dt75artblog for Dragon's Table)
(art by @dt75artblog)
Amalthea is a 15 year old pirate queen! Her armada is made of old sailboats, her ocean is a medium-sized lake, and her crewmates are all teens (or younger), but I assure you, the bloodshed is real. She values the little things in life, such as good food, riches beyond measure, and finding the guy who killed her parents when she was a baby (so she can rip him to shreds). She has a magic bracelet that turns people who wear it into sea slugs, so watch out competition!!!

Getting to know yoouuu, getting to know ALL about yoouuu!
The party, having vanquished the Sky Queen, sits down for almost 2 hours of rp in which they talk backstories & other character goodies with one another. It was great!

“I just did 200 practice problems. I forgot my own name.” - Rebecca
[ school starters || accepting !! ]
“Why, it’s Rebecca!” A smile crept on his face as he looked after the homework their parents had given them. Straight-forwardness in his reply was all but sincere, a jab he learned from others in school. “No worries, at least. I would hope our parents know who we are, anyhow.”
Pencil scribbled on his own practice problems with a long sigh as his smile faded. “Sadly, I still have...” Another sigh— “fifty. Over fifty, actually. Far too many.” His schoolwork still laid beside him as well. At least there was plenty of hours of the day still. “Perhaps it’s too rude to mention to our parents directly, but this many questions is a little bit... overkill?”

Welcome to Humblewood!
Humblewood is an exciting new Campaign Setting for 5e DND that includes original birdfolk player races, new monsters, magic items, and a compelling adventure for 1st to 5th level characters.
The World
In the world of Everden, nestled between the mighty Crest mountain range and the vast marshes of the Mokk Fields, lies a mystical forest known as Humblewood that hums with the Great Rhythm of nature. It has been ruled for generations by the birdfolk who inhabit the Great Tree-City of Alderheart. Humblewood has endured for centuries thanks to the industry and compassion of its people...
...but now the fires have come, and the Woods have been thrown into chaos. Flames ravage the land and destroy the homes of the humblefolk, stoking a growing resentment against the birdfolk, whose cities have managed to avoid the worst of the fires so far. Hatred burns in the hearts of those who have lost lives they cherished, and these once peaceful peoples now take up the sword and turn to banditry. The disaffected turn their gaze on Alderheart, and threaten to reduce an age of peace to ashes...
...yet there is still hope. Even in these dark times, brave heroes can be found within the Wood. Only they can quell the raging flames that have been unleashed upon the land, and restore balance to the realm. Will you answer the call?
Residents of Humblewood The Birdfolk
The birdfolk races have ruled over Humblewood from their canopy villages and fortified cities for as long as anyone can remember. Play as one of the five core birdfolk races:
The astute crow-like Corvum who safeguard Humblewood’s knowledge
The dignified fowl-like Gallus who have faith in the power of community
The aloof pidgeon-like Lumas who use their gifts to bring joy into the world
The agile hawk-like Raptors who blaze new trails through the forest
The powerful owl-like Strig who defend what they believe is right
The Humblefolk
The humblefolk live in small villages throughout the Wood, but are occasionally found in birdfolk cities. Play as one of the five core humblefolk races:
The hearty deer-like Cerva who strive to achieve their goals
The sensitive hedgehog-like Hedges whose empathy lets them see what others cannot
The brave mouse-like Jerbeen who inspire those around them with deeds of heroism
The resourceful raccoon-like Mapach who can craft a solution to any problem
The cunning fox-like Vulpin who are always one step ahead of their foes
The Bandits
Once a loosely organized confederacy of crime, its ranks have swelled with humblefolk displaced by the spreading fires who have turned to banditry to survive. Under the guidance of a new leader, they seek to exact retribution upon the birdfolk cities and sow discord throughout the Wood.
Monsters of Humblewood The Oozes
Deep within the murk of the Mokk Fields live several species of this most resilient life-form. Battle your way through caustic slimes whose touch is a deadly acid, sticky slimes that can suck a weapon right out of your hand, and the rare shifting slimes which feed on magical energies to become ever stronger.
The Beasts
Humblewood is home to a variety of beasts whose size, strength, and abilities can only have grown thanks to the Wood’s magic. Face craggy skinned mountain lions whose roar can summon rockslides, hunt the deadly forest prowlers in their woodland lair, and tangle with the giant sea monster (art coming soon!) in a battle on the high sea!
The Elements of Flame
The great calamity which produced the part of Humblewood known as the Scorched Grove also made the area an ideal home for fiery creatures. Withstand the searing heat of an emberbat swarm: a vortex of tiny flying creatures, each one a smouldering ember with wings! Confront the terrifying ashsnake and it’s deadly pyroclastic breath! Legends say there may even be a primal elemental force lurking within the Scorched Grove. Have you the courage to find out?
Our latest playtest v0.4 contains the first chapters of a full-length campaign, and the tools you’ll need to get started playing as birdfolk characters in this setting.

Went by the comic shop yesterday after many sad months of lockdown and discovered they’d got the Humblewood-campaign, including the miniatures!
I already had two sets , the main birdfolk and humblefolk sets... but I decided to buy two more; Citizens of Alderheart and the Bandit Coalition. Painted those today and took some photos along with the other figures.
This one might be my favorite out of the new ones. Pretty luma cleric.
Ow the edge. I may have used too much black?...nah. He looks fine.
Fancy peacock monk? Fancy peacock monk!
I already had a red fox and I thought this one’s ears looked rather big...so Frey is a fennec fox now. (Yes this might be the only one of these who’s name I actually memorized...)
From the older sets but he can never be shown off enough. This little strig is here to save the Alderheart and he’s doing his very best!
So is this little Jerbeen following in the footsteps of Reepicheep of Narnia. (Who’s name I totally didn’t have to google just now...its been a while since I read Narnia okay...)
And here’s Remus. My own vulpin wizard who recently got to resume his adventure after a long lockdown-related hiatus. He’s still wondering how wine tasting actually works.

yo let the characters introduce themselves. let them speak.
Lachol gives you a lazy smile from her place at the bar, only half-paying attention to the knives spinning over her fingers. She arches an eyebrow as you approach, questioning and challenging you to speak.
Isidore is going over his books, cross-referencing and murmuring quietly to himself. His golden claws tap on a line, and he plucks a quill with the other hand to make a note, ink-stained scales unheeded. You stand in silence, trying to catch his eye through his focus. After a few moments of rustling paper, he notices your presence. Green eyes meet yours through round lenses, and he seems to be awaiting your query.
Vetrya perches on a railing, long fingers playing with the strings of his violin. He hums a few melodies as he tunes the instrument, and smirks to some unspoken thought. As he brushes a stray lock of black hair out of his eyes, he notices your presence and tenses slightly, then relaxes in the manner of a performer - languid and easy.
Keli sits in the grass, white dress spread around her. She is picking wildflowers and weaving them together, and you can see a few decorations already planted into her dark frizzy curls. The dozens of crystals around her neck clink together as she moves, and you catch a glimpse of the largest, a chunk of rose quartz with black streaks through it like smoke. You clear your throat and she startles, whipping her head around and looking up at you with wide, scared brown eyes.
Harper is, as usual, in the marketplace, chatting amiably with some of the vendors. Eir wings are tucked neatly behind em, mottled feathers shining in the sun. You watch with a smile as Harper waves goodbye to the kindly rabbit woman behind the stall and turns into the center of the crowd. Ey notice you - a clear outlier among the crowd of Humblefolk - and ey tilt eir head, meeting your eyes with surprising determination for such a small and young creature.
Tritta doesn't notice you at all. She is headfirst in an engine, a complex-looking thing wrapped in coils of metal and glass that glow in strange and unnatural colors. Xyr ringed tail twitches as xe scrabbles in the depths of the machine, cursing in xyr rapid, chattering native tongue. Eventually she lets out a cry of success, and pulls herself out with an impressive show of force. Xyr whiskers are singed and xe is streaked with soot, but xe holds a still-smoking twist of metal aloft in triumph. Lifting her goggles to view her prize better, she catches sight of you standing in the corner of her workshop. Xe glares at you with sharp black eyes, and plants a small hand firmly on xyr hip.
So, what do you do?
