hey tell me why harry wasn't able to see thestrals before cedric

because, while he was a witness to lily’s death, he wasn’t able to comprehend what it was. harry had to be told that his parents were dead, harry had to be told how they died. and for a time, he believed the lie he was fed. even the moment with dementors backs some of this up:

harry more than likely watched his mother fall because he was standing, one hand gripped on the bars and the other extended to her. because he never had been left to scream and sob on his own before, because she was supposed to pick him up and sing to him but something was very wrong. because the man with the shrill voice was upsetting her and he just wanted his dad to come in and make her happy with the pretty lights as he had done for harry a short while ago. 

he’s not hearing lily’s final scream, harry is hearing the anguish of the worst moment of his mother’s life. babies can, absolutely, sense the emotions of their parents. it is locked in as a memory because he knew at the time that he had never heard her make those sounds before, not necessarily that it was the end of her.

honestly i wish there were more next gen blogs to interact with each other bc i can TOTALLY understand that, especially if it goes against your personal interpretations of your character. i just love the idea of expanding histories and world building beyond the original generation
