Transcript: Ts underswap is soooo good I love crossbones and it's characterization of everybody is just is so good. Ts!chara is so interesting and I can't wait to figure out what the deal with the temmies and flowey is. I'm not usually interest in fan projects with alot of ocs and that's the main reason I couldn't get into uty but tsunderswaps oc actually interact with the main characters and feel like they belong in the world. Harry and Larry my beloved ♥️ I also really like how ts!toriel didn't make a declaration to kill all humans and her promise with sans to make them not reach her is sooo 🥺. I also just love papyrus and sans in it easily my favorite au ever. They need to stop teasing asriel and let me see his nerdy ass in the next installment (biting on the edge of my enclosure)

Then again I love superheros and comics so the starlight isle was basically hand made for me to like it. PLAY TSUNDERSWAP YOU WONT REGRET IT!

I actually mostly just want to talk about the character writing for Sans and Papyrus because they are my favorite characters and my heart flutters when fancontent does them right. Ok first of all

Sans is scary :scared:

I feel like Sans is a character that has lost a lot of his edge when it comes to fancontent. What makes Sans intimidating is the fact that you don't see it coming when he's being serious with you; it's meant to catch you off guard. But nowadays everyone and their mom knows about Sans' secret super powerful scary side in the Undertale No-Mercy Run... and it doesn't have that same bite when fancontent tries to portray him as threatening.

TS!Underswap Sans is a very, very well done subversion of that. He comes right out of the gate letting you know that he hunts down bad people, and that he's not afraid to mess you up if you decide to do messed-up things. And you think that he's talking about his superhero persona, and he's putting on an act for you, but then you do a No Mercy run and find out that he is being 100% serious. You knew it was coming and yet it still blindsides you when he actually decides to hunt you down for being a weirdo murderer. It doesn't feel out of character and it doesn't feel unearned; Sans is a hero, and he will do what a hero needs to do. In every sense of the word.

Writing him to be a superhero was a really genius choice. You can have him be his normal lazy slacker self when he's out of costume, and therefore he can fill in Papyrus' role a la Underswap without it feeling OOC, because he's acting. But as I just pointed out--... he's not acting. He is, but he's not. He's an enigma of a guy, and you never know when you're supposed to be taking him seriously, and THAT is the mark of a very good Sans characterization.

Papyrus... we don't actually know that much about, I feel. I really wish I had more to say about him, but I think the fact that I don't makes it work all the more. He takes Sans' role, so it's sort of a given that he's mysterious. He's an inventor, too! What a fun little callback to Undertale Papyrus and all of those little gadgets he made.

His No Mercy characterization is really, really interesting. Despite taking Sans' role, he still comes at you with utmost compassion and understanding-- and it just makes me wonder all the more how everything will play out. I feel like NM final boss Papyrus is so, so often mischaracterized-- people write him as way too willing to fight, way too willing to get vengeance. That's not him! Papyrus is the one person who will stick with you to the end, and always believe that you can be better-- and dropping him into Sans' role with that in mind could be so so SO interesting! I have the utmost faith in Team Switched to do something clever here.

Also, Papyrus' reaction to Sans' death was heartbreaking.

Changing the subject, in this universe-- Frisk and Monster Kid take the role of the first fallen human and Asriel, respectively. I really, really doubt that Frisk has any ties to Chara's soul in this universe in the same way that Frisk and Chara were connected in Undertale. In fact, I have a good feeling that Frisk and MK were reincarnated into Flowey and Temmie, respectively.

Flowey specifically talks in a very neutral, unwavering tone. They don't have any strong opinions on any route you choose to take, and they'll follow and help you out regardless. They're outwardly friendly but also unsubtlely sarcastic and detatched. Kind of what we get from Frisk, using the very minuscule characterization given to us.

Also, I feel like Flowey being genderless in this universe is pretty significant. Haha.

I think that's all I have to say for right now. I didn't mean for Sans to take up half of this post-- in fact, I didn't really like his character until I played the NM route... and then everything clicked. Such good character writing

so I may or may not have FINALLY finalized the designs of my underswap take's characters. i ended up tweaking asgores design a bit bc it resembled ts!underswap asgore's too much, and im definitely editing it more in the future, but here we are!!!!!

URIEL is the eighth child to fall into the underground so far. Based on the unused human sprites in Undertale's code, they're now the child you guide back to the surface. They have a Cheap Yo-yo and Friendship Bracelet as their weapon and armor.

BUTTERCUP is a creepy little flower who is very, very detached and calm when they're feeling happy. Whenever they drop the facade, they are cold and calculating. They've gotten bored of the Underground's monotony, so when they see a new victim person, they can't wait to get their vines on a new soul...

ASGORE is the guardian of the Temples. After the events that lead to his unfortunate exile, he's stayed in the temples, guiding any lost or fallen humans along the way. He's very respected by most of the people living around the area. Despite his cheeriness most of the time, he deeply misses his wife and children.

HAPPSTABLOOK is a small performer who often struggles with creator's block. He lives in the Temples as well, but does stage plays and shows in Leaffall (idk what waterfall replacement is called) and has a small following there. He writes to his cousin occasionally, but his cousin is too busy with work to respond to most his letters.

sans is, well, sans. he's now the sherriff of sunbeam county. he lives with his brother papyrus and tries his best to make him happy. he judges everybody in sunbeam, and makes sure lawbreakers are locked up tight. most of the time. when he's not sleeping.

So I have Ideas now for an AU Concept from this image alone Bear with me.

Imagine Betatale (an Au I heard about with everyone looking and Acting Like their Beta Selves) but like Ts!Underswap.

Sounds ridiculous but Hear me out. Imagine in this reality The Monster Human War happened but Monsterkind Population was Cut in half: The criminals, who were Banished into the titular Mountain and Underground. And the Innocents those who wished to not provoke war and Signed documents saying they only wish for peace and all that Jazz. The Innocent monsters get to live their days on the surface with Humans which include a Sentient Sword and an Enby Teenager named Frisk.

The pair have a Dynamic that’s a Mix of Susie and Kris, Koffin-K and TS Chara, and Zoro and Mihawk. Pair of Dumbasses that like to Spar and put on a Show. One day the sword, Let’s call them Lam (pronounced like Lamb minus the B) and Frisk feel weirdly Drawn to the mountain Frisk more then Lam and decide to go explore it inevitably Falling in the Hole and that’s where the Story Begins.

The Characters in Undertale are like their Official Counterparts albeit a Bit Distorted specifically on their level of hate towards Humanity.

Absolutely Depsises Humanity: Most NPC Monsters that aren’t of the main Cast, The Ghosts not including Mettaton, Muffet, RG1&2, Grillby.

Neutral on Humanity: Asgore, Sans, Flowey, Gerson and the other shopkeepers, Gaster, Alphys (but you could say that about her and talking to literally anyone but the monsters closest to her like Sans Undyne And Mettaton), and NPC’s in New Home and Ruins.

Like Humanity: Undyne (She thinks they are really cool cause of Anime but still follows her duty as a Royal Guard), Papyrus, Some Members of Mettatons fan club (aka like 4 Hotland NPC’s), Mettaton himself, Mad Mew Mew (Character development/Mad Dummy wants a Round Two in this reality) Toriel.

Depends on the Individual to List: The UTY cast (Depends on what Beta Clover did. Does not include Chujin as I feel like he’s more neutral in this Beta Reality), Suzy (will cement herself in liking humanity after meeting Frisk), The Gaster Followers, Red (I don’t care I will count her as well), Temmies, Kappy (aka Kount Koffin-K but before He became a Bad Guy but since there is no Crossbones there can’t be a Kount so his “Beta” is him pre Super villainy. It’s my AU concept and I can add whoever I want Bite Me), Harry and Larry, Asriel, Chara, Kris (This one is a kind of a Joke but also I think Canonically Kris would try and get some Monster Scientists to make a Human to Monster Hormone Replacement Therapy Treatment. So thats what they would be doing in this Beta Reality and are a separate entity to Frisk)

Other things would include frisk having the unused Magic Action thanks to Lam, The time this would take would be during a Festival happening in the Underground, Robots 98 and 100 being part of a Robotics line Alphys Makes based on the Axis Line of the Late Chujin serving to help Repair the Core when Needed though they mostly just mess around, there would be like 28 other Robots to be seen ranging from 14-700 with a Gaster follower one being labeled 666, and Frisk’s Journey would be to Figure out what Catalyzed the Human monster war and unravel a several Century conspiracy of who actually started it, and if Half of Monsterkind deserved to be Banished.

Also it would be split into a few “Chapters” with a Prologue in the Town Frisk come from interacting with the Humans and Monsters living there getting some context to this reality. Each chapter is dedicated to each Zone and there would be multiple endings much like OG Undertale

Also why they are Friends with a Talking Sword Monster…that one stray pixel makes it look like it has an Eye and a random Tumblr Post gave me that Idea.

Undertale au are so intriguing for me, especially when you start looking at what makes an au work. there are so many au that have different quirks and ways they work but personally there is three Au that I adore.

Idustshane, La Jupo vania (don't know if that counts at all but hear me out) and TS!Underswap.

Let's start of with the funny, La jupo vania is what if you take shitpost of an au and then make it into a extremely deep and complex story about what makes you human and what makes you be in the right.

TS!Underswap is what happened when you take an underswap au and do it right, So much personality, So much emotion it's just so good.

Idustshane is just what dustale was meant to be. No edgy sans, No oneliners, No "You Made me do this!", No "I am you and you are me" type of anything. It's just a fucking monster doing there job to kill you. By any fucking means. The attacks are hard? They don't make sense? Yeah that's the point. He wants you dead.

So yeah. Play those fangames/au you will like them do, make sure to start of with La jupo vania it's not that hard of a fight and not that long.

to me, xpap is pretty close to a "perfect" swap papyrus by my own metrics. bc ill be honest, i personally have never liked the traditional "sans is now just papyrus, papyrus is now just sans" swap. ive always preferred swaps like ts underswap, where their roles (and maybe some aspects of their personalities) are swapped, but theyre still distinct characters rather than preexisting ones wearing a different shell. xpap is that to me.

he retains classic's positivity. he retains his energy and his motivation. pretty sure jakei has explicitly said that, like classic, xpapyrus has that belief in every single person, though id say he takes a different approach to it.

he's more violent. more likely to kill. classic is actually more violent than people give him credit for: sure, he wont kill you, but hell give you a pretty fucking brutal beating, and he's always stoked to spar with undyne, which as you can imagine is not a harmless process on eother side bc its fucking undyne. but he wont kill, because a huge facet of his character is his own moral code (his integrity if you will gets shot gets shot gets shot), and that includes not resorting to killing because of his belief that anyone can be a better person if they try! and you cant really try if youre dead.

xpapyrus has killed and will kill, most likely because thats something he has been trained for. not necessarily in the royal guard - i dont see them training to kill bc their whole thing was protecting frisk and not rlly agitating humanity too much?? which wouldnt work too well if they were killing them constantly. but i do see them resorting to it in extreme situations - i think xgaster and the way he raised them plus his own pushing his sons (and others) in certain directions to better suit his future wouldve contributed to that a lot more. however, we dont have much on that really (or if we do i havent seen it. sigh why must so much xtale content be deleted...)

despite his positivity, he is noticeably more jaded than classic, most likely because he knows the circumstances of his universe and his being. he's more laid-back, im pretty sure in the timeline x comic he tells cross to take a nap and says something implying that they have the classic swap thing of "now papyrus is the nap guy while sans hates naps and sleeping", which i think fits.

at least from what weve see so far, xpap seems less. "performative", lets say. because despite his morals, classic pap is also known for sort of. playing a role. he plays the confident cool guy who has lots of friends and admirers and therefore doesnt need any more, and thats not to say that he isnt cool and awesome, but that he feels the need to compensate for his insecurities via the "fake it til you make it" method. also, if you pay attention to things like his phone call dialogues, you see him constantly contradicting himself and switching what he does and doesnt know depending on who's with him. he has a delicately and deliberately crafted persona, tailored to the people around him so they can find him more likeable. i dont really see xpapyrus doing that.

he seems more open, less willing to be pushed around. thats not to say classic is a pushover - hed object to something like, that, too. but hes more likely to go along with certain things if he thinks itll make him more likeable. like his phonecall with undyne in grillbys. she says she fucking loves grease, so papyrus backtracks on his grease hate to talk about how much he loves it (but also, i believe if you talkto him in front of his house when undynes there too, he outright admits he doesnt like grease?? so idk what changes between that and the grillby's phonecall. maybe the fact that in the latter, undyne specifically expresses an opposition to his own opinion and he feels if they clash like that, their friendship will be tarnished?? idfk this man is a mystery to everyone but himself but probably himself also). i think if it was xpap instead, hed just agree to disagree, or maybe start a like. play-argument of sorts.

same thing i can see with a scene like the one where you see undyne for the first time - he tries to tell her that frisk is cool and friendly and they dont have to fight and she doesnt have to kill them!! but undyne is clearly unhappy w this idea and papyrus backs down pretty quickly (though he obviously still works to help you bc he wants to be friends rather than enemies). xpapyrus i think would not back down, at least not so easily.

and i think his belief in people is different from classic's in the way that, yes, he does believe people can be good. he does believe in choices and the ability to make the right ones. he also, however, believes that he doesnt have to stick around for that shit if he doesnt want to. he believes that sometimes, too much is too much, that anyone can make the right choice, and in this moment his right choice is getting rid of whoever has wronged him. "dont kill" isnt imprinted in his moral code like it seems to be for classic, so hes more. "flexible" in his options for dealing with people who just wont listen. he wont go out of his way to injure or kill, but hes not above doing those things for whatever reason he deems necessary (and i do believe it has to be a necessity for him, he wont do it otherwise).

like overall he very much still evokes "classic papyrus" - hes full of positivity and energy, he sticks to his morals and beliefs, he loves to fight, he believes in people. but hes also more "mature", a bit more mellow. he's laid-back. he's measured in his views and expectations of people. he's more "open", more willing to be himself no matter the situation or who hes around. honestly, id say hes a swap papyrus if, rather than the swap being in relation to being more "sans-like", it was more about being the opposite of being "papyrus-like", if you know what i mean.

idk theres a lot i dont know. what i do know, however, is that i love and care him. if he doesnt play a big role in 0.8, either part one or part 2 (or both) i will riot.

ok so. i talk a lot about how cross is a swap sans, and his au is a mashup of a classic and swap timeline, right?

well. xpapyrus also acts like a swap papyrus too i feel. obviously he’s not entirely a swap pap, given how he’s in the royal guard and has a lot of energy and more outgoing personality. he’s a blend of a classic and swap papyrus. given the outgoing ability and efficiency while keeping some swap papyrus traits. notably, how willing he is to harm others. obviously he’s not going around beating the shit out of people, but unlike classic papyri, he would hurt or even kill people. this includes cross, his brother. “he remembered the cruelty of xgaster”, classic papyrus in underverse after remembering all of the resets didn’t dare harm frisk, the person making his universe’s resets happen.

crazy how xpapyrus says this given he completely had the intention to kill cross. like he was 100% willing did you see those blasters. also stop deadnaming your brother :(

he’s also generally been a fairly snarky kid compared to cross. cross fears xgaster as a child (because xgaster is implied to beat the shit out of his kids. crazy how we ignore that one), and still does as an adult, but as a child it’s. it’s obvious yk? but papyrus never really gave a shit. xgaster can mistreat him all he wants but he’s going to call him out whenever applicable. in the ‘looks like we have to kill this guy steven’ meme, he would be garnet. he and 1-S would be friends as kids because both would most likely let their gasters die under certain circumstances, whilst 2-P and cross would be more similar (both want approval and acceptance from their fathers/gasters, and both defended him despite how there is literally no reason to not let him die, etc).

also, compared to classic papyrus, xtale papyrus is more laid back at times. there’s this comic jakei made ages ago which shows it really well and i’m trying to find it but god it’s so old and also deleted i think. i have it saved somewhere hold on. WDYM I DONT HAVE IT SAVED. hold on. wow ok 2 hours later and i have no idea where it is. but he’s chiller than the other papyri and more comparable to swap papyrus at timessigh

FRONTIER (RUINS)

The borderlands around one of the entrances to the underground. Chock to the brim with the strongest monsters in the game, though they’ve been weathered and weakened by the elements they brave, led by the old King Asgore, who is under self-exile in an attempt to move on without having to acknowledge his past. While tough, these monsters are not immune to kindness.

The old King himself has tried to harden his heart, promising to himself this is the last time he lets a human get past him… will it be enough?

SUNSPOT (SNOWDIN)

A harsh savannah constantly baking under warm crystals that shine with an unnatural force, enough to match sunlight… except for 24 hours a day. These folk are rowdy, used to conditions of extreme heat and brightness, and though they are hardened from the heat of the sun, they will not shy away from the gentle warmth of a beating heart. All of them, except perhaps their sheriff.

Sans is the head honcho around these parts, with the fastest slinging arm in the underground and a Gasterblaster ready to turn any humans he meets into nothing but SOUL, you’ll need help from someone kinder to get past him!

SANDSTILL (WATERFALL)

Before Sunspot was able to capitalize on its natural sunlight, it was nothing short of sand for miles. The area past it was once a crystal cavern, but it eventually became the repository for all of the sand Sunspot couldn’t use, creating an endless desert of soft sand, constantly churning from machines circulating them around the crystals at the bottom to distribute nutrients. These dunes are so soft that intrepid scientists and inventors have found ways to traverse them with boats, or sometimes over them entirely with flying machines.

Alphys is one of those renowned inventors, Grand Admiral of the Royal Navy and hardened veteran of encounters with humans. Having seen the damage these humans, be they young or old, are capable of, sparing her is entirely out of the question, her ears immune to your pleas as she fires at you distantly on the back of a steamship. You have to be crafty, you have to close the distance…

ICEWALL (HOTLAND)

Beyond the baking heat of Sunspot and the shifting dunes of Sandstill lies Icewall, a gigantic glacier that is the source of nearly all of the Underground’s precious water. Within this great reservoir is where some of the hardiest of all monsters live, second only to the frontiersmen employed by the King. They dedicate their lives living in these glaciers, carving their homes into the snowless ice and using the neverending cold to their advantage, one of them being the royal Smith Undyne, who has been using the endless cold to temper her weapons, and perfect her craft of sub-zero smithery.

Her greatest creation however is not one entirely of her own make, and the death robot DJ Blookster, her personal assistant and subordinate, was made in collaboration with the crown’s greatest scientists. The robot himself is an eccetric character, more interested in spreading mixtapes “hot enough to melt icewall’s glaciers” rather than actually killing humans!

And there's this part in the game where Muffet traps you and Papyrus and Crossbones in her webs and shes all like i'm gonna rip your soul out of your body and then bake your human corpse into a pie fuhuhu~ and so im like Lets kill her in front of the brothers and see what they say. And before I could land the final blow Crossbones jumps in like "woah woah hey dont pull that shit here i understand acting in self defense but there's no need to fight back" like WHAT!!! what do you think self defense means Sans

Today's post won't be an update about Corrupted Justice. Today's post will be about the disrespect some people have for the AU creators that bring us entertainment with their hard work.

Fist of all, @undertoad-au. Undertoad probably is one of the most disrespected AUs that is still going. They're trying so hard to make a story that's as unique as possible, but apparently all people want is a lazy Undertale reskin with minor changes. We all know the “Waluigi is Mettaton” thing, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Many people come up with their own ways to make the AU “better” while discarding any depth the AU has, and attack the creators one they're told their ideas aren't good. Then there's also the roles discussion. While you may use the term yourself, don't attack the Undertoad creators for not wanting to use them. Mario isn't Sans, Luigi isn't Papyrus, Peach isn't Toriel (even if there were roles she wouldn't be). They're Mario, Luigi and Peach. There are no Chain Chomp blasters, Mario isn't lazy and he doesn't say -a after every word.

Then @ut-storyshift. Storyshift suffers from the first problem of Undertoad as well. People only want a lazy reskin with minor changes while discarding any depth the AU has. For doG's sake, Mettaton is not a human with a knife. Chara isn't lazy like Sans. Alphys doesn't wear a sheet (anymore). Yet apparently you all want it to be like this. A lazy reskin.

@invertedfate. One of the greatest AUs i know of. A great story with lots of depth. Yet all people see in it is Underswap. Underswap did not invent role swaps. Inverted Fate is not Underswap because it has role swaps. Frisk and Chara don't swap. Flowey and Temmie don't swap. Only 6 people swap compared to the around 20 Underswap swaps. Calling this Underswap is once again, discarding all depth it has. Tell me, would Underswap Undyne be this crazy? Would Papyrus be your partner? Would it have a huge-ass fortress in Waterfall? Would Mettaton still be the world's sexiest rectangle?! NO! Inverted Fate is not Underswap, and calling it that is discarding all depth the AU has.

Last but not least, @tsunderswapofficial. While not crapped on as much, TS!Underswap still gets disrespect. Some people want it to be just battles, no overworld. So should the team just discard all their extremely hard work for some battles? Of course not. Battles don't contain as much fun character interactions. The project might even be bigger than Undertale! This deserves a lot of respect, not to be crapped upon. One-off battles are good if the AU already gets told through Another Medium, like Inverted Fate and its Sans battle. But it should not be all an AU has to offer.

Many AUs have been cancelled and deleted due to the disrespect of the community, and i hope these AUs won't end the same way, and that other AU creators won't have to go through this.

And if you still be disrespectful to these hard working people, you deserve to be locked up in a room with Jerry.
