i just finished watching dopesick, and i am so so heartbroken and aghast. the scene where the doctor asks to see billy again while in rehab and then tries to get pills from him made my mouth drop open. betsy’s family finding out about her death had me bawling. the actions of the sacklers and purdue pharma had me feeling like someone walked on my grace. not sure how much was real/embellished for the adaptation, but if even 1% of the purdue side of things was real, then fuck that company and that family and fuck the shitty regulations that allowed them to market such an addictive drug so easily. also fuck the way its made me wonder how much of the world around us is made up of shitty people willing to turn a blind eye for their own profit.

'Painkiller' vs. 'Dopesick': Which Series Tackles the Opioid Crisis Better?"
Painkiller is a show with a story that we have all heard before. Perhaps we have not heard the exact story of Purdue Pharma but we have heard about opiod addiction and those responsible for it.
Painkiller is the second attempt at this story. Dopesick did it first and frankly did it better. That does not make Painkiller a bad show. It is very informative, and the cast is very good, but Dopesick got to these dramatic beats first and handled them in a more resonating way.
Both series feature the Sackler family as they were the real-life family at the center of the crisis. Richard Sackler, to be precise, was the president of Purdue Pharma and the main push behind OxyContin. Played in Painkiller by Matthew Broderick and in Dopesick by Michael Stuhlbarg. It is Broderick who gets that edge simply because they explored the more sublte nuances, and the visions of his egomaniac uncle Arthur, played by Clark Gregg, helped heigten the performance.
As far as the rest of the story, Dopesick handled that better. In Dopesick, you have a young girl who receives an injury at a mine. Kaitlyn Dever is phenomenal in that role, and Michael Keaton starred as a doctor who himself got addicted to OxyContin. Keaton as Dr. Finnix had much more of a plot than any one doctor did in Painkiller. In Painkiller, they presented the doctors as easy to manipulate by the seduction and enticing of the beautiful young women who made up Purdue's sales force.
Both featured real-life prosecutor storylines, and Dopesick handled that much better as well. Dopesick was much better thought out as an individual story while tackling the larger issue with the Sacklers. Painkiller tried to rely on more striking visuals and less development pertaining to the characters that made up the overall narrative. The Sackler family is one component of the story. While Broderick turned in a great and memorable performance, the rest of the cast of Painkiller felt forgotten, and that is due in large part to Dopesick telling this story so well.
The real tragedy here was and still remains the staggering number of people who are addicted to prescription painkiller medicines. Purdue Pharma is one instance of big pharma greed, but we need more education on addiction itself. Both shows were not afraid to show you how bad it was on the streets and just how addictive OxyContin is. As it is referred to in the series, it was like selling "Heroine in a pill form" and the real sadness stems from the fact so many deaths went ignored so one family could line their pockets.

🚨 for Paul? I love your writing and hope you are doing well btw! <3
🚨 sex that sent me to the ER headcanon for Paul
(lol this prompt makes me giggle)
Everyone knows how much Paul loves to cook. And he's had more than his share of kitchen sex. Past and present partners always know he's easy to corner there, and half the time, is easy to distract. (The other half, he has exact timings going and you're going to need to wait or the food will be ruined, and he's not going to be distracted.)
One summer, in his 30s, he had planted an extensive vegetable garden in his yard. This garden included a huge bumper crop of all sorts of peppers... including some habaneros which had thrived. He had way too many to eat, so he decided to make homemade hot sauce.
He had made jams and jellies and other sauces before. He knew what to do and already had a list of friends and family who wanted a jar. He set aside a weekend, and started off prepping the peppers--coring, slicing, dicing, chopping....all with just his bare hands. No gloves, nothing.
And he's always had great arms... and watching him use those big, strong arms to slice and dice and chop... well, he's hard to resist and his girlfriend at the time was weak for it.
He laughed and tried to shake her off, but she was pressed up behind him, running her hands over him, and he couldn't resist. He got caught up in the moment, letting her tug his pants and briefs down and he, without thinking about anything other than fucking her, jerked his cock a handful of times to spread precome and make sure he was as hard as he could be.... with the hands he had just been handling the peppers with.
GOD. The burning. It was awful. He was actually crying. He was in so much pain. Rinsing off offered absolutely no relief. In the end, he caved and let his girlfriend bring him to the ER just to make it stop.
He had never been more mortified than when he had to haltingly explain why his dick felt like it was on fire. Luckily the ER doctor was mostly a professional and didn't laugh in his face. (Though, honestly, the guy could have laughed loudly at him and as long as he fixed it, Paul would have just rolled with it.)
Absolutely never again. He learned his lesson. Now -- he always wears gloves when chopping up hot peppers and he washes his hands thoroughly before sex. His partner too, if they had been handling the peppers. Even with wearing the gloves. He's taking absolutely no chances.

Anyone else watching the new series? I personally appreciate three series Hulu created more than Netflix adaptation... But they both highlights some serious issues & the start of the opioid epidemic in America.

Isabel was 17 years old when Rosario was born; she never married Rosario's biological father, Patrick C. Harris. When Dawson was a year old, Isabel married Greg Dawson, a construction worker. Isabel and Greg moved into a reclaimed building on East 13th Street after being approved as members of an affordable housing plan. The family later moved to Garland, Texas.
As a child, Dawson made a brief appearance on Sesame Street. At the age of 15, she was discovered on her front-porch step by photographer Larry Clark and Harmony Korine, with Korine deciding that she was perfect for a part he had written in his screenplay for the controversial 1995 film Kids.
Dawson had several roles in film and television adaptations of comic books. These include Gail in Sin City (2005) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014), Claire Temple in five of the Marvel Netflix series (2015–2018), and providing the voices of Diana Prince / Wonder Woman in the DC Animated Movie Universe and Space Jam: A New Legacy and Barbara Gordon / Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie. getting my first aid/cpr certification done at a fire station was a) half the price of the red cross, b)there were absolutely no videos, and c)at the end the firefighter running it brought out a truly robocop CPR machine that cost fifteen thousand dollars and hammers on your chest exactly two inches like a hydraulic press.
the first aid section was less regimented so it included putting a $40 military tourniquet on the firefighter instructor's arm - previous first aid classes usually talk about theory but he was like 'nah yeah go ahead and put it on my arm.' Also included, opiate overdose information, recommending we watch Dopesick (Hulu), and the firefighter finding a use for the fake arm and fake blood so after my traditional favorite part of first aid (wrapping my sibling's arm in gauze), we held the fake artery closed with a finger and stuffed gauze in a fake bullet hole.
I still remember watching first aid videos in school so old that they explained what 911 is. (help, help, call EMS, that's nine one one!)

Do you have any recs for books, films, or tv shows that are a comfort read/watch? Having a bit of a hard time rn and need an escape
For shows…
I’m currently watching The Last of Us (new episode day, YAY!) on HBO Max and I like it a lot. I’d also recommend The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel or The Boys on Amazon Prime. If you want a limited series (one and done) my two favorites have been Chernobyl on HBO Max and Dopesick on Hulu
I’ve read quite a few books this year already but my favorites have been the Lovelight Farms books by B.K. Borison, Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (which will be a show on Amazon next month!), What Lies in the Woods by Kate Alice Marshall, and Looking for Jane by Heather Marshall.
I haven’t watched movies in a while, I gotta get on that 😂🦎

VICIANTE! Só demorei pra assistir porque não aguentei ficar longe de lestat e louis por tanto tempo. A terceira temporada está chegando e a ansiedade segue aqui colada.

as we already know I’m a WHORE for paul, may I PLEASE PLEASE have dangerous sex with paul? I’ll love you froeever and ever and ever
For you?? Of course. Always.
🔪 dangerous sex with Paul
Paul will freely acknowledge, with a self-deprecating laugh and a half shrug, that his "dangerous" is not really all that dangerous.
There's some little things that might count as dangerous?
He's been known to fuck in the kitchen and will usually be distracted enough that he isn't paying attention to where knives and hot plates are when he's deep in it. (He nicked the side of his hand on a knife once, doing that. He was so in the moment though, he didn't notice until after when he looked down and there was blood across his palm.)
Shower sex is a personal favorite of his, and has almost led to falling more than once. He doesn't relish needing to explain any of those injuries to a doctor in the ER.
The bigger thing, the one that he does knowingly, pushing boundaries (well moderate boundaries?) is that he's always gotten a thrill with semi-public sex. He discovered this out of necessity as a teenager, when he'd drive out on deserted roads with girls and get in the back of his car....it would get him going even more when there was traffic on the road. And then the time the sheriff's deputy knocked on the window when they were in the middle of things.
His heyday of this was in college and just after. A bar bathroom or two, an alley out back of some shitty dive bar where his friends' band was playing a set. Now? He's not seeking it out really. He'll get a thrill when he realizes the two of you left the curtains and the windows open during... the possibility that someone heard or caught a glimpse. He is perhaps easy to convince while camping, knowing others are nearby. Or not all that far off the trail while out on a hike...
He's never actually be caught. And he doesn't think he'd want to actively put on a show. But the idea of being caught is hot.
Oh. And the gun thing. That... that he liked. A lot.
