Iman Vellani interpreta a Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, Saagar Shaikh, Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff y Mohan Kapur también protagonizan.
Spider-Man: No Way Home'
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness of Madness
Thor: Love and Thunder
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The Marvels
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special

Songs From 2019 (one per artist)
Another mixed bag of stuff i either enjoyed a lot, thought was excellent or interesting (regardless of taste… sort of), emerging artists to maybe look out for, and generally music that for whatever reason connected with me in some way, including the odd earworm i just couldn’t shake. Some artists are left off just to vary a little more from some other popular lists. Hope you enjoy some of this too and find something new to be taken by. Please do buy their music if you can and hopefully from a local independent record store if possible to support their work. There’s a spotify playlist (below) for easier listening but I’ve also posted a few links to extra things on some of them if you want to check them out. Spotify:

you took my heart and you had it in your mouth and, with a word, all my love came rushing out and, every whisper, it's the worst, empty though by a single word. there is a hollow in me
—Hoy es un día especial, ¿verdad?
—¿Especial?
—¡Buenas noticias! ¿Verdad? ¿Irás a verla?
Veremos… ¿Has hablado con Antonia últimamente?
—Bien.
—No.
—No. ¿Sabes?
No había agendado otra cita.

I Love Denver Comedy
I've been trying to write something about Denver for the last month—my two year anniversary in the city was October 5—and it's taken me this long to figure out what I really wanted to say.
When I decided to leave Des Moines, I didn't know where I would go. I knew I wanted to do comedy—I had been performing regularly for a year and a half—but that was about it. After a little research, my choices narrowed to Chicago and Denver: east to family, familiarity, and comedy or west to... well, just comedy.
From the handful of Denver comics I'd met (Omaha punkz Zach Reinert, Preston Tompkins, Georgia Rae, and Ian Douglas Terry. Pavement-pounder and folk legend Sam Tallent. Hulking funnyman Elliot Woolsey), Denver comedy seemed to be regularly churning out sharp, passionate comics. They said, "Hell yeah," a whole lot, but they seemed to be happy. And that's exactly what I wanted to be. I decided to find out what was on the other side of Nebraska.
The last two years have been everything I wanted and more. The Denver open mic scene is smart and hard-working. The comedy veterans are experienced, engaged, and encouraging. The clubs themselves are supportive and accessible. High Plains is among the best festivals in the country. But my favorite thing about Denver is that its comedy scene is rich with female talent.
When I started comedy, I was the only female comic in Des Moines. When I left Des Moines, there were only five, all with less than two years of experience.
Denver is lucky to have women, from professional, headlining comics, to brand-new, enthusiastic open-micers, and everything in between. Most often, there's a woman on every lineup. Sometimes, there are more than one. We host mics and shows; we crush headlining, feature, and opening spots; we bomb. We're out there and we're working.
SIDE NOTE: I'm of the belief that the growth of a scene's female comic population is directly related to how many female comics it already has. The more women, the safer and more welcome women feel, the more women stay. So, as a relatively new, female Denver comedian, I have so much gratitude for all the female Denver comics who did the heavier lifting before me. Christie, Timmi, Mara, Kristin, Nancy, Nora, Stephanie, I'm sure it was really hard for a while. Thank you.
Of course, things could be better. We could make more of an effort to bring out-of-town headliners who are women and/or POCs. We could try to listen to and appreciate the comedy of people that are different from us. We could give women the same benefit of the doubt that men get when moving from opener to feature or feature to headliner. We could book women on the road. We could just fucking listen to each other better. But that's the thing about this scene: I truly believe that Denver wants to be better. And that's why I moved here.
Lately, I've been thinking about comedy outside the walls of the Denver scene a lot. It's scary. The business seems impossibly big; the steps between levels seem impossibly high. There's thousands of talented comics, thousands more untalented ones. But. I'm trying not to think about it like Frodo and Sam before waltzing into Mordor. Instead, I think comedy is like a real cool bar.
There's a very long line and one old bouncer. He is very rude. If he likes you, you can come in. If he doesn't, you can get back in line tomorrow. Maybe he'll like you tomorrow. Some people ask him what he's looking for, but he just mumbles, "Eeeegh. I'll know it when I see it." From the outside, "it" is a clever, young men who isn't too challenging. Then again, most of the people in line are clever, young, and unchallenging men.
Of course, a lot of us hate the bouncer. We should. He's an asshole—a regressive, offensive, unfunny asshole. But some people love him. They're usually assholes as well. Fact is: You want in the door. And he works the door.
Now. Comedy is changing. These days, there are more bars with more lines and more bouncers who are different kinds of assholes. The lines are somehow even longer. So we end up camping out in line: making friends, drinking out of bottles in paper bags, telling jokes, building a scene.
As far as I know, these are the easy days, the fun days. Fighting will breakout from time to time, but at the end of the day, we're all just in line together, waiting for another asshole bouncer to tell us to come back tomorrow.
And we will.
For different reasons, we'll all wake up early in the mid-afternoon, and we'll stand in line again. Some of us will stand in line for the rest of our lives, and that'll be enough. Some of us will quit to have a family or get a real job. And maybe, just maybe, some of us will make it past the asshole bouncer and get to see the real cool bar.
I haven't been inside yet, but, from what I hear, there are even more lines in there.
A lot of shit has gone down on Facebook recently. And that's okay. We can fight. I love that we fight about stuff. I love that Denver comedy is something worth fighting about. I love that the scene is large and diverse enough that there are things to fight over. But every time a fight breaks out, I try to remind myself about the real cool bar with the long lines outside.
Look. You can book shows however you want. You can hang out with whoever you want. You can fight. But try to remember, at the end of the day, we're all still standing in line together. In the sunshine and in the snow and in the driving, freezing rain, we're all just a bunch of schmucks, waiting for the judgement of one old asshole. So be kind. Share your whiskey and your hand-warmers. Shake hands with strangers. Pat your friends on the back. We might be out here waiting for a really long time.

6 winners from Week 15 of the NFL season
Jameis Winston and Eli Manning headlined a great week for NFL interception leaders.
The NFL playoff picture is becoming clearer with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. In Week 15, the Patriots punched a ticket to their 11th straight postseason. The Bears saw their NFC North title hopes dashed out like a spent cigarette. The Chiefs strengthened their case as the world’s best snow football team.
The Rams’ blowout loss to the Cowboys somehow clinched playoff spots for the Packers, Seahawks, AND 49ers. The race to the top of the AFC South may have been decided by some delightful chaos.
But Week 15 was about more than just final scores, unlikely turnovers, and playoff fates. As always, Sunday’s action created a healthy backdrop for storylines to develop and crash into one another as the league careens toward Super Bowl 54. There were several winners across the NFL landscape, and they stretch beyond the box score.
So who were the week’s biggest winners?
It wasn’t: Josh Gordon, who is not a quarterback
Gordon has been a useful, if not stellar, acquisition for the Seahawks. The former Brown and Patriot only has seven catches in his five games as a member of the team, but he’s turned those opportunities into 19.9 yards per catch. On Sunday, he was responsible for a 58-yard catch on his lone target of the day.
That wasn’t the only time Gordon got a touch against the Panthers, though.
TREBO pic.twitter.com/HNClKN5ucP
— Carolina Panthers (@Panthers) December 15, 2019
Gordon, called into duty by an overthinking-it Pete Carroll, took a reverse roughly 12 yards behind the line of scrimmage before uncorking a deep ball to a covered DK Metcalf. He blanked safety Tre Boston in the process, and the underthrown ball was quickly scooped up and turned into a Panthers possession. Carolina couldn’t do anything with the opportunity — Kyle Allen would throw an interception of his own two plays later — but it snuffed out a potential scoring drive in a 30-24 Seattle victory that was a little closer than the Seahawks would have preferred.
Now on to ...
Week 15’s actual winners
6. Younghoe Koo, who is so good at onside kicks he can recover them with only 10 guys
Koo’s introduction to the NFL in 2017 was memorable for all the wrong reasons. He didn’t make an appearance in the 2018 regular season and wasn’t signed by the Falcons to replace Matt Bryant until Week 10. In that short span, however, the former Georgia Southern standout has been solid. He’s converted 17 of his 19 field goal attempts and has made all but one of his extra points.
More impressively, he’s been responsible for two of the league’s seven successful onside kicks in 2019. He would have made it three , but the Falcons decided they’d rather play Week 15 in hard mode.
Well here's a new one! The #Falcons recover a surprise onside kick … but are penalized because they don't have 5 men on either side of the ball. Why'd that happen? Because they only have 10 men on the field. pic.twitter.com/9xui3bVl4b
— Justin Felder (@Justin_FOX5) December 15, 2019
Atlanta’s inability to put the proper number of players on the field for the kick negated its recovery thanks to an illegal procedure penalty for not having enough men on the field. Even so, it was another brick added to the legacy the young kicker is building with the Falcons. The NFL’s onside kick may be a broken play, but if Koo’s behind it, your team somehow has better than 50/50 odds of landing on the ball.
The Falcons, by the way, are now 4-2 with Koo on the roster. They were 1-7 before he arrived.
5. Stephon Gilmore, who Andy Dalton was not prepared to face
Dalton’s return to the Bengals’ lineup was the catalyst behind his team’s lone win of the season. For two quarters, it looked like he may be able to pull off another upset when he led Cincinnati to an early 10-7 lead over the Patriots.
Then Gilmore took over.
Gilmore, a $65 million signing from the typically thrifty Pats back in 2017, has emerged as one of the game’s top defensive backs over the past three years. That was on full display in Ohio.
His first interception gave the Patriots the field position that led to their second touchdown of the day. On the ensuing drive, he decided to give his offense a drive off by jumping all over a lazily thrown out route and taking another Dalton pick all the way to the end zone.
2 + 4 = 6. @BumpNrunGilm0re PICK SIX. pic.twitter.com/GDYGBQf7ih
— New England Patriots (@Patriots) December 15, 2019
In less than eight minutes, Gilmore had forced two turnovers that turned a surprisingly tight game into the blowout most people had expected. He’s now got a career-high (and league-leading) six interceptions on the year and is cruising toward a second straight first-team All-Pro selection.
He’s one of three Patriot defenders with at least five INTs this fall, alongside Devin McCourty and J.C. Jackson — the latter of whom also picked off Dalton twice. On Sunday, that group lifted New England to a playoff spot and a 21-point win, even on a day where Tom Brady threw for just 128 yards.
4. The Cowboys, who finally look like they’d like to win the NFC East
Dallas ran through the first 14 weeks of the season without a single win over a team with a winning record and was 3-7 in its last 10 games. The Rams had primed themselves for a late playoff push by upending the Seahawks in Week 14 and had won five of their last seven. These factors conspired to make LA a slight favorite Sunday afternoon, even in the unfriendly confines of AT&T Stadium.
So of course the Cowboys boat-raced the Rams right off the field.
Dallas crumpled Los Angeles into a ball and then kicked it into the trash in a 44-21 de-pantsing that finally made the Cowboys look like contenders. An often underwhelming defense allowed just seven points in the first 56 minutes before easing up in garbage time. Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott ran for 248 yards and three touchdowns between them. Tavon Austin scored the easiest touchdown of his life:
Tavon Austin really turned the Rams secondary into a Keystone Kops routine pic.twitter.com/3ekskMAl9A
— Christian D'Andrea (@TrainIsland) December 15, 2019
The win keeps the Cowboys firmly entrenched atop the messy NFC East. A similar win next week against the Eagles would clinch the division title and cool the calls for head coach Jason Garrett’s firing. The question now is whether this can last. Was the 44-point explosion the catalyst to a December rally, or just the next data point in an inconsistent season that’s jumped from highs to lows like P.T. Barnum taking a polygraph?
We’ll know more next week, but for now the Cowboys are looking like they might be more than just a sad-to-watch home underdog in the Wild Card Round.
3. Travis Kelce, who left us all with a massive, unanswerable question
Did you know Travis Kelce, star of E! Network’s non-hit dating show Catching Kelce, also moonlights as a football player? A pretty good one, too!
Kelce was the star of Patrick Mahomes’ snow-bound revival Sunday, catching 11 passes (on 13 targets) for 142 yards in a 23-3 win that flaunted the full power of Kansas City’s passing offense. It was his first 100+ yard performance since Week 2, and it helped him to reach a notable milestone. He became the first tight end in league history to have four straight 1,000-yard seasons.
That leaves us with a very important question. Is Kelce the league’s best tight end? The only other player in his league at the moment is 49ers’ Hulk George Kittle, who at one point trucked Ricardo Allen so hard that it made him laugh hysterically.
George Kittle was laughing as he pancaked a Falcons defender pic.twitter.com/spiHRh72kn
— Kevin Jones (@Mr_KevinJones) December 15, 2019
He also had 13 catches for 134 yards (and a costly fumble).
Last year, Kelce totaled 1,336 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns to Kittle’s 1,377 and five. This year, Kelce’s got 1,131 yards to Kittle’s 888 thanks in part to the injuries that cost Kittle two games. On the other hand, Kittle has caught 79 percent of his targets to get there (Kelce’s at 70 percent). Per SIS, they’ve been similarly effective in run blocking as well.
So who gets the nod? There’s no wrong answer there. If you want youth and a little extra potential, Kittle’s your guy. If you want the game-changer who has put up 33 catches for 425 yards in six postseason games, then Kelce’s the right choice.
2. Eli Manning, who god willing will go down as the league’s perfect .500 quarterback
Coming into Week 15, Manning had a regular season record of 116-117. Daniel Jones’ ankle injury gave him a glorious opportunity to even things out against the Dolphins.
Manning restored balance to the universe when he led the Giants to a victory in what may have been his last appearance at MetLife Stadium. The 2004 No. 1 draft pick threw for 283 yards and a pair of touchdowns while balancing that out with, in true Eli fashion, the bad decisions that led to three interceptions. He started the game with a standing ovation from an appreciative crowd and ended it met by his family as he walked off the field a 36-20 winner.
Eli Manning coming off the field in his final home start and being greeted by his wife and kids. An emotional scene. pic.twitter.com/cuXEOIMyDy
— Jordan Raanan (@JordanRaanan) December 15, 2019
While that threw a wrench in the team’s hope for 2020’s top overall pick, New York’s course to the No. 2 selection and a shot at Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young remains intact. If Jones returns to the lineup and this was the last we saw of Eli, he got to leave his final game a winner while still leaving his team in place to improve in the future. That’s a win/win for the Giants — which is only one fewer win than they’ve had so far in 2019.
1. Jameis Winston, who was his truest self Sunday
For the second straight week and fourth time this season, Winston kicked off his day by throwing an interception on his very first drive. Then, he snapped back to form and threw for 308 yards and three touchdowns ... in the first half alone.
Winston, playing without human cheat code Mike Evans but with a chipped bone in the thumb of his throwing hand, shredded the Lions’ defense like Crock Pot pork in a thorough 38-17 pasting. With 8:15 left in the second quarter, he had more passing touchdowns (three) than the Lions had total yards (two). He finished his day with 458 passing yards and four scores — his second straight game with 450+ yards and four TDs.
No one profited more from Winston’s massive swing than Breshad Perriman. The former first-round pick’s three touchdown catches in Week 15 were as many as he had in his first two seasons in the league.
3️⃣ ➡️ 1️⃣9️⃣ For the third time today, Jameis hits Breshad for a score! pic.twitter.com/4sMnK0QP6m
— Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@Buccaneers) December 15, 2019
He’ll have to keep coming up big if Winston’s going to keep this pace. A late injury to Chris Godwin means Tampa Bay might have to play out the rest of 2019 without either of its Pro Bowl-caliber wideouts. That could be brutal for an offense whose running game averaged just 1.7 yards per carry against the Lions.
Winston is still a deeply flawed passer — that early interception was his league-high 24th of the season — but he’s showcasing his value as he plays out the final games of his rookie contract. Performances like Sunday’s shellacking could be enough to convince some needy GM to hand him $50 million in 2020. The way he’s played lately, he could even wind up strapping in for five more years in Tampa.

20 beautiful European cities with few tourists
(CNN) — With overtourism showing no signs of abating in Europe’s most famous destinations, there’s never been a better time to seek out wonderful options that attract fewer visitors. Keen to travel somewhere new without having to battle through huge crowds of selfie stick-wielding tourists in the likes of Venice, Paris and Amsterdam?
Here’s our pick of the most beautiful European cities with hardly any tourists:
Orange, France
While Avignon draws in thousands of tourists thanks to its summer festival and arresting Papal Palace, nearby Orange is usually overlooked.
Easier to navigate with far fewer visitors, the city’s key attraction is the vertiginous Roman theater, which was built in the first century C.E. Meanwhile the Orange Museum, set in a beautiful 17th-century mansion, is also well worth a visit.
Norwich, England
Norwich has one of England’s most impressive cathedrals.
Pixabay / Creative Commons
The saying goes that Norwich has a pub for every day of the year and a church for every Sunday.
While that’s perhaps stretching the truth, this most quintessential of English cities is certainly home to some of the most stunning medieval architecture in England.
Norwich Cathedral dates back to 1096 and the streets of Colegate and Elm Hill are home to picturesque, centuries-old homes.
The Adam and Eve pub, on Bishopsgate, is said to be the oldest pub in the country, dating back to 1249.
Aarhus, Denmark
Denmark’s second city has long been overshadowed by its alluring capital Copenhagen.
But Aarhus makes the perfect alternative for a Danish long weekend thanks to its pretty beaches, towering Domkirke and the superb ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, with its rainbow panorama walkway.
For those looking to splash out, Gastromé,based in the Latin Quarter, has a tasting menu that will satisfy the most demanding of foodies.
Antwerp, Belgium
The UNESCO-protected Cathedral of Our Lady dominates the Antwerp skyline, but there’s so much to this Belgian city than its most famous building.
Highlights include the diamond Square Mile, where travelers can get to the heart of an industry that’s been a core part of the city since the 15th century.
There’s also the Red Star Line museum, located on Antwerp’s old docks, which uncovers the city’s past as a hub for migration to the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Hague, Netherlands
Laid-back city The Hague is far less crowded than Amsterdam.
Pixabay/Creative Commons
As Amsterdam attempts to rein in tourists with plans to close its Red Light District and impose strict rules on short-term lets, the Hague serves as a fabulous, low-key alternative for those still keen on a Dutch break.
The city boasts some of the Netherlands’ finest architecture, a pretty network of canals and, in the Mauritshuis, a museum to rival Amsterdam’s behemoth Rijksmuseum.
It’s also just 15 minutes away from the gorgeous Scheveningen beach resort.
Sarajevo, Bosnia
Sarajevo is filled with stand-out architecture.
Pixabay, Creative Commons
Often snubbed for more popular destinations in neighboring Croatia, Sarajevo is a resurgent city brimful of culture and history.
At its heart is Baščaršija, the old market quarter that still buzzes with spice stalls, cafés and the fascinating Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque.
Visitors can learn about Sarajevo’s four-year-long siege during the 1990s civil war at the Tunnel of Hope and the War Childhood Museum. The derelict bobsled track from the 1984 Winter Olympics is also a stand-out sight — the nearby Pino Nature Hotel offers superb views and first-rate Bosnian food.
Pristina, Kosovo
Kosovo’s capital is a quirky city with plenty to see and do.
Shutterstock
The Kosovan capital isn’t usually at the top of many tourists’ destination wish lists, but that’s no reason not to visit this fascinating city.
While Pristina may have been synonymous with war 20 years ago, its undergone a major transformation since then, with various quirky buildings popping up.
The excellent Emin Gjiku Ethnographic Museum is well worth a morning of exploring, as is the superb National Museum of Kosovo.
Pristina University’s unique library will fascinate architecture buffs, while those looking to cool off can find solace in the vast pool tucked away in Germia Park, located just north of the city.
Malmo, Sweden
Malmo — the third largest city in Sweden after Stockholm and Gothenburg.
Shutterstock
Malmo is so much more than a day trip across the Oresund Bridge from Copenhagen.
The excellent Moderna Museet Malmo is one of the best contemporary art galleries in Europe, while culture fiends will find succor at Malmöhus Castle, home to several museums focusing on the local area. The city’s food scene rivals the nearby Danish capital — foodies should check out Bloom in the Park and its “no menu'”concept, as well as the global offerings at Malmö Saluhall.
Meanwhile Ribersborg beach, located just a short walk from the city center, is a wonderful haven from the heat in high summer.
Aberdeen, Scotland
Aberdeen is often referred to as “The Flower of Scotland” thanks to its greenery.
Shutterstock
The hordes visiting the Scottish capital can feel hugely oppressive, particularly during its annual festivals.
However, travelers keen to escape the crowds can simply head north to Aberdeen instead.
The city’s amazing architecture has given rise to the nickname “Granite City,” with fascinating buildings at every turn.
Aberdeen’s main art gallery is due to reopen in November 2019, while those keen to sample the local culture can head out to nearby Speyside for a tour of some of Scotland’s best single malt distilleries.
Bern, Switzerland
The Old Town of Bern — a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Shutterstock
While travelers often simply pass through the Swiss capital en route to a summer vacation or winter ski trip in Zurich or Geneva, Bern is definitely worthy of a few extra days of your trip.
When the heat rises, locals take to the River Aare for cooling dips and paddle board trips.
Elsewhere, the Museum of Fine Arts features works by Picasso and Klee, while hikers can tramp to the top of the Gurten, the mountain which overlooks the old city.
Wroclaw, Poland
Wroclaw is one of the oldest cities in Poland.
Sean Gallup/Getty Images
Few small cities in Europe pack a cultural punch like Wroclaw.
This western Polish city, on the banks of the Oder river, served as European Capital of Culture in 2016 and has plenty of attractions for art, architecture and history fanatics to marvel at.
Wroclaw’s main highlight is the 114-meter Panorama of Racławice, depicting the 1794 defeat of a Russian army by the Poles.
The beautiful Centennial Hall should also be on any itinerary, as should the Penitent Bridge between the towers of the Mary Magdalene Church.
No visit is complete without a day spent exploring the Gothic Old Town.
Tbilisi, Georgia
The name of Georgia’s capital comes from the Old Georgian word “tbili,” which means warm.
Pixabay/Creative Commons
The capital city of Georgia, which is actually positioned between Asia and Europe, derives its name from the hot springs that bubble beneath its surface.
Its sulfur baths are a magnet for visitors, albeit far fewer than those that head to the famous spas.
Tbilisi wears its multi-ethnic history with pride — the famous Metekhi Church, which dates back to the 13th century, sits close to the Narikala Fortress, built by the occupying Persians in the fourth century.
Meanwhile, the rambling alleyways and small shops of the Old Town are perfect for whiling away the hours.
Minsk, Belarus
The Belarusian capital of Minsk is another city that’s usually relatively crowd-free.
Dan Kitwood/Getty Images
Having been almost destroyed during World War II, the now Belarusian capital became fertile ground for Soviet redevelopment.
Today, the city’s buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era of brutalist buildings.
Travelers can wander around the vast, seven-hectare Independence Square before taking in the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, which looks at how Belarus overcame Nazi occupation.
Minsk’s bar scene is legendary, and if the acquired taste of local tipple Balsam doesn’t suit, the excellent Gambrinus has a variety of beers to try after a day’s sightseeing.
Yerevan, Armenia
Yerevan — one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
Maja Hitij/Getty Images
The Armenian capital’s position in the far eastern reaches of Europe means it’s easily forgotten by those on the tourist trail.
But with a history going back more than 2,800 years, there’s a palpable sense of the past here, without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of regular tourist hotspots.
Its downtown area is a mix of Beaux Arts buildings and hulking, Soviet-era blocks.
Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Cluj-Napoca is filled with fascinating Baroque and Gothic architecture.
Pixabay, Creative Commons
Romania’s second largest city is often seen as a stop off for travelers looking for outdoor adventures in the Apuseni Mountains, or those keen to witness Transylvania’s historic sights.
But the vast, Gothic St. Michael’s Church and the fascinating Fabrica de Pensule, a working gallery and art space in a former paintbrush factory, are just two attractions that make a longer stay essential.
Throw in a thriving café and bar scene and pretty squares, and Cluj-Napoca has all the trappings of the ideal city break destination.
Debrecen, Hungary
Debrecen is a less crowded alternative to Budapest.
Shutterstock
While Budapest has a deserved reputation as one of Europe’s most appealing cities, Debrecen is an excellent option for those seeking a less crowded Hungarian alternative.
Kossuth tér, the main square, is home to the impressive Calvinist Great Church and Grand Hotel Aranybika.
Yet it’s beyond these major sights that the real action takes place.
The Old Town rewards those looking to get lost with excellent cafés and people-watching spots.
Keep an eye out for smaller spa hotels, with a chance to soak in thermal waters before heading to the nearby Great Plains.
Ankara, Turkey
Ankara, formerly known as Angora, is the second largest city in Turkey after Istanbul.
Adem Altan/AFP/Getty Images
When it comes to city breaks, Istanbul tends to take all the plaudits.
But capital city Ankara is so much more than a stop off on the way to Cappadocia and the other delights of Anatolia.
Anitkabir, the mausoleum of modern Turkey founder Ataturk, is an obvious starting point, along with the Museum of the War of Independence.
The Kocatepe and Hacı Bayram Mosques are also key attractions, while the cafés of Kızılay are ideal spots to grab a kebab and watch the world go by.
Plovdiv, Bulgaria
Plovdiv — the first Bulgarian city chosen as European Capital of Culture.
Shutterstock
Currently enjoying its time in the limelight as a European Capital of Culture, Plovdiv is Europe’s longest inhabited city.
As a result, it’s imbued with an inescapable sense of history, especially in the colorful Old Town.
The main draw here is the astonishing second-century Roman amphitheater, which wasn’t uncovered until the 1970s.
Another highlight is the Thracian ruins of Eumolpias, located just outside town and dating back 5,000 years.
Trondheim, Norway
This historic city was Norway’s first capital.
Martin Bureau/AFP/Getty Images
Located on the fjord of the same name, Trondheim is Norway’s third largest city.
However, with fewer than 200,000 residents, it’s decidedly uncrowded and easy to explore.
The famous Gothic cathedral is perhaps its best known sight, but the views across the water and around its vibrant harbor are just as impressive.
Trondheim is also known for its excellent microbreweries — Den Gode Nabo is popular and a great place to start.
Turin, Italy
Turin is home to incredible sights like the Mole Antonelliana.
Pixabay/Creative Commons
Venice’s struggles with tourist numbers have been well documented, but while still popular with travelers, nearby Turin is decidedly less congested.
Travelers can simply sip a coffee on the sidewalk, indulge in some of the country’s best cuisine and enjoy being away from the hordes in the country’s hot spots.

STAN LEE | The Commemorative Collection
VIEW THE COLLECTION HERE
Stan Lee’s Marvel Revolution also extended beyond the characters and storylines, to the way in which comic books engaged the audience and created a community between the readers and the creators. Additionally, he pioneered and advocated the use of comic books to comment on social issues of the time, including bigotry, injustice and discrimination. This got him into some hot water with the rather conservative Comics Code Authority but Lee wouldn't yield, he continued to pursue what he believed in and what he knew his audience craved; thus the code changed. In summary, Stan Lee and his collaborations with some of the greatest comic book artists ever to have lived, changed the game.
In 1984, Stan Lee was awarded The National Medal of Arts by the United States Congress, the highest honour awarded to an individual artist in the United States. Previous recipients include Georgia O'Keefe, William de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein and Bob Dylan.
SUPERHEROES
Th instalment of Marvel ‘Superheroes’ specially curated to commemorate Stan Lee’s 95th year. These iconic comic book covers, created, orchestrated and masterminded by Stan Lee himself, pay homage to the original large scale art, penned and inked by some of the greatest artists to emerge from the comic book industry. Featuring six classic covers from Marvel’s unparalleled back catalogue, we present The Amazing Spider Man, Wolverine, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and The Invincible Iron Man.
Stan Lee’s career in comics began in 1939, and continues to this day in his current guise as Chairman Emeritus for Marvel. It is without hyperbole or exaggeration that we may refer to Lee as a living legend. He has played a pivotal role in changing the face of the comic book business, and the characters within this collection are testament to his legacy as founding father of this billion dollar industry.
The characters in this collection have been part of Stan Lee’s gift to the industry, dating back to 1941, whereupon Captain America made his rst appearance, followed in the 1960s and 1970s by his equally super counterparts. Whether Lee envisaged that this band of much needed superheroes, cutting a swathe through often dystopian times in global history, would have quite such longevity is purely academic, such is their achieved permanency in our collective consciousness.
The timing of their respective emergences onto the pages of Marvel comics arguably echoes world events happening as these now classic pages were being fed through the printing presses. From Captain America battling injustice at a time in the 1940s when Hitler’s politics were causing a miasma of fear to settle over Europe, to the world facing an unknown future thanks to the Cuban missile crisis in the 1960s, Lee’s illustrated progeny rose to the occasion to remind society that good will always triumph over evil, when power is leveraged to protect and further rather than to control and dominate.
Such is the legacy that Stan Lee has engendered, such is the relevance of his message that these timeless characters continue to impart and such is our honour to play our own small role in honouring him as a powerhouse of pop culture through this commemorative collection.
Stan Lee was editor and former president and chairman of Marvel Comics. Born Stanley Leiber in New York city December 28th 1922, he signed his name as Stan Lee when he wrote his firrst comic book script ‘Captain America Foils the Traitors Revenge’, in 1941.
Stan Lee had a gift for inventing plots with more depth and substance than the distinguished competition. He created characters with interesting personalities, who spoke like real people. They suffered personal hang-ups and the bad guys possessed previously unseen psychological complexity. Lee’s rst creation alongside Jack Kirby, launched under the Marvel brand, made history in November 1961. Lee added wit, subtlety and hidden morals to a genre that was previously locked into at portrayals of good versus evil; a style of story writing that endures to this day. He collaborated with several comic book artists, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, and went on to co-create Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, the Silver Surfer, The Avengers and many more fictional characters.

Media Round Up – November 2017 – Movies To See
The month of November is here and the movie season is back in full swing! The next few months will rival the summer blockbuster period and most of the action begins this Friday. So get ready for our trademark preview series, known as the Monthly Media Roundup, featuring the most intriguing options coming to your local cinema in the next four weeks. Enjoy!
November 1st
A Bad Moms Christmas
Stars: Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Jay Hernandez, Justin Hartley, Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon
Director: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Official Synopsis:
A Bad Moms Christmas follows our three under-appreciated and over-burdened women as they rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas. And if creating a more perfect holiday for their families wasn’t hard enough, they have to do all of that while hosting and entertaining their own mothers.
By the end of the journey, our moms will redefine how to make the holidays special for all and discover a closer relationship with their mothers.
The first movie was an unexpected hit, however this sequel is flying well below the radar. After the success of Girl’s Trip and the end of the month release of Daddy’s Home 2, it’s curious this doesn’t have more buzz, or at least marketing. It will be interesting to see how the counter-programming against Thor: Ragnarok works out for the new release. We will find out Monday morning…

November 3rd
Thor: Ragnarok
Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Tom Hiddleston, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban
Director: Taika Waititi
Official Synopsis:
In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk!
Judging from the early word, Thor: Ragnarok is Christmas come early for Marvel fans. The irreverent, yet relevant, third chapter of the Thor saga looks to give the franchise a makeover with eccentric filmmaker Taika Waititi at the helm. Getting to see Thor, Hulk, and even some surprise MCU characters in the same movie is like a Saturday morning cartoon dream made in reality. The entire industry will also be watching the unspoken showdown with DC Films’ Justice League which should add to intrigue of the release. This will be such fun!

LBJ
Stars: Woody Harrelson, Bill Pullman, Jennifer Jason Leigh
Director: Rob Reiner
Official Synopsis:
After powerful Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson (Woody Harrelson) loses the 1960 Democratic presidential nomination to Senator John F. Kennedy (Jeffrey Donovan), he agrees to be his young rival’s running mate. But once they win the election, despite his extensive legislative experience and shrewd political instincts, Johnson finds himself sidelined in the role of vice president. That all changes on Nov. 22, 1963, when Kennedy is assassinated and Johnson, with his devoted wife Lady Bird (Jennifer Jason Leigh) by his side, is suddenly thrust into the presidency. As the nation mourns, Johnson must contend with longtime adversary Attorney General Bobby Kennedy (Michael Stahl-David) and one-time mentor Georgia Senator Richard Russell (Richard Jenkins) as he seeks to honor JFK’s legacy by championing the historic Civil Rights Act of 1964.
2017 has taught us a lot of lessons about leadership, abuse of power, and the current state of race relations. Reiner is not a shrinking violet when it comes to his political leanings, so it will be interesting to see what his film has to say about the presidency. Woody Harrelson has long been one of my favorite actors and watching him disappear into the role of Lyndon B. Johnson is a solid dramatic ticket to balance out the whimsy of Thor: Ragnarok.

Last Flag Flying
Stars: Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne
Director: Richard Linklater
Official Synopsis:
In 2003, 30 years after they served together in the Vietnam War, former Navy Corps medic Larry “Doc” Shepherd (Steve Carell) re-unites with ex-Marine Sal Nealon (Bryan Cranston) and Reverend Richard Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) on a different type of mission: to bury Doc’s son, a young Marine killed in the Iraq War. Doc decides to forgo burial at Arlington Cemetery and, with the help of his old buddies, takes the casket on a bittersweet trip up the East Coast to his home in suburban New Hampshire. Along the way, Doc, Sal and Mueller reminisce and come to terms with shared memories of the war that continues to shape their lives.
Linklater has been known for making nostalgic movies about growing up and capturing the feeling of historical eras. However, with his latest effort he is dealing with the inherent sadness and bonds that come from old age. The cast is beyond impressive, so it’s hard to imagine how this won’t be the perfect drama for a mellow night.

November 10th
Murder On the Orient Express
Stars: Kenneth Branagh, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Michael Pena, Judi Dench, Tom Bateman, Josh Gad, Penelope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Leslie Odom Jr.
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Official Synopsis:
What starts out as a lavish train ride through Europe quickly unfolds into one of the most stylish, suspenseful and thrilling mysteries ever told. From the novel by best-selling author Agatha Christie, “Murder on the Orient Express” tells the tale of thirteen strangers stranded on a train, where everyone’s a suspect. One man must race against time to solve the puzzle before the murderer strikes again.
It’s hard to dismiss or ignore Murder on the Orient Express’ star power and I am never too good for an old-fashioned caper flick. The first trailer left a lot to be desired, however the latest looks have shown enough of the story and action to get me all into the mystery. Let’s see if there is enough steam behind this freight train of a movie.

Daddy’s Home 2
Stars: Mark Wahlberg, Will Ferrell, Mel Gibson, John Lithgow, John Cena
Director: Sean Anders
Official Synopsis:
In the sequel to the 2015 global smash, father and stepfather, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) have joined forces to provide their kids with the perfect Christmas. Their newfound partnership is put to the test when Dusty’s old-school, macho Dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad’s ultra-affectionate and emotional Dad (John Lithgow) arrive just in time to throw the holiday into complete chaos.
It’s rare when I get more enthusiastic about a comedy sequel than the original, however the casting of the Daddy’s Home 2 has me eagerly awaiting the upcoming follow-up. The trailer made me laugh out loud and watching Mel Gibson be a jerk…is well…perfect. The premise is standard 80’s fare, but it’s hard to imagine the film not being worth the price of admission.

November 17th
Justice League
Stars: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Ciaran Hinds, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J.K. Simmons, Amber Heard
Director: Zack Snyder (w/Joss Whedon)
Official Synopsis:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
This is the movie that will decide the entire future of the DC Films…so how could I not be there to find out for myself opening night. I unabashedly like the ambition of the flawed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and I’m eager to see what the Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon have come up with. Behind-the-scenes it will be interesting to see if the two directors have combined their powers to create an unexpected movie. Regardless, the kid in me who watched reruns of Superfriends and the Justice League cartoon can’t wait to see the team realized on the big screen.

Roman J. Israel
Stars: Denzel Washington, Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo
Director: Dan Gilroy
Official Synopsis:
“Roman J. Israel, Esq.” is a dramatic thriller set in the underbelly of the overburdened Los Angeles criminal court system. Denzel Washington stars as a driven, idealistic defense attorney whose life is upended when a turbulent series of events challenge the activism that has defined his career. Colin Farrell costars as the ambitious, monied lawyer who recruits Roman to his firm.
The premise of the movie speaks to my inner social activist and Denzel is one of the best in the biz. But for some reason the trailer for this doesn’t quite do it for me. However, it’s hard to imagine a bad flick from Mr. Washington and this seems like a movie with the right thing to say for today.

November 24th
Coco
Stars: Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Sofia Espinosa, Luis Valdez, Edward James Olmos, Selena Luna
Director: Lee Unkrich, Adrian Molina
Official Synopsis:
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
The new upcoming flick, Coco, hasn’t all gotten a ton of advanced hype, however there is little reason for concern. Pixar rarely fails (The Good Dinosaur aside) and is probably the most reliable studio in the entire film industry. Add to the fact that it’s been a slow year for animation along with the colorful Latin flavor and this should be a solid family watch.
