crowd vs. critic single take // EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE (2022)
Tumblr media
What do you do when everything in your life is dissatisfying everywhere you look?
For Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh), there’s little she loves about her life above the laundromat. For her husband Waymond (Ke Huy Quan), there’s little love left in the marriage he staked his whole life on. For their daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu), there’s little in her life to inspire her namesake. Their days are filled with laundry, taxes, and family tension, all dipped in a glaze of aching malaise. But everything changes during a meeting with the IRS when a man who looks like Waymond—but acts nothing like him—warns Evelyn of a battle to save the multiverse only she can win.
Tumblr media
CROWD // Nothing is not weird about Everything Everywhere All at Once. Fanny pack kung fu? Hot dog fingers? Center-of-the-multiverse bagels? I swear I’m not just squishing random words together. Though comic book heroes have leaned into multiverses for some time, it’s not the stuff of movies that want awards or even ones that want to branch out beyond sci-fi genre tropes. Everything throws you into its complicated plotting and its (at times) puerile humor with little explanation, and it gives you precious few moments to catch your breath. I have watched it three times, and I still can’t explain everything back to you.
Everything can be indiscriminately loud for its own sake, but it also feels like the brain child of a cast and crew obsessed with finding afflatus in every moment, which is makes it hard not to give them credit even if they don’t always achieve it. (What does achieve it: Raccacoonie!) The movie cares equally about dazzling the audience with fun ideas and about creating a catharsis for its characters, which come together in the symbol of an everything bagel of all things. In the bagel: joy, pain, compassion, loneliness, loyalty, nihilism, choice, fate, pride, fear, and…googly eyes? It may be literalizing the Second Law of Thermodynamics, but if you're willing to go for the ride, you'll have a blast.
POPCORN POTENTIAL: 8.5/10
Tumblr media
CRITIC // Nothing is weirder about Everything Everywhere All at Once than the fact that it won Best Picture—except maybe that it’s the third most-decorated Best Picture winner of the 21st century after The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (11 wins) and Slumdog Millionaire (8 wins). (2013’s Gravity didn’t win the top prize, but its seven wins are tied with Everything’s total.) Individually, its 11 nominations all make sense. Yeoh and Quan are undeniable, and Best Supporting Actress winner Jamie Lee Curtis is as delightful as ever. The script has no comparison in film history, the editing feels like watching a flawless Simone Biles routine, and good luck keeping track of all the changes in costumes and musical style. Somehow the Daniels directed it all into one package—that’s no easy feat!
If only the sum of Everything was as great as its parts. The line, “In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you,” is one of the most romantic lines in modern cinema, but the film’s shambolic energy lacks the focus and maturity to fully develop its ideas or world building. Like the title suggests, this film cares more about quantity than quality.
ARTISTIC TASTE: 8.5/10

Ji Kang, from Alchemists, Mediums, and Magicians: Stories of Taoist Mystics
Alchemists, Mediums, and Magicians: Stories of Taoist Mystics is a collection of biographies of 144 historical figures associated with Daoism, compiled under the title Xuanping lu 玄品錄 by daoist Zhang Tianyu 張天雨 (1279-1350) and translated by Thomas Cleary.
Ji Kang was styled Shuye. He was a man of Zhi prefecture in the state of Qiao.(9) He was orphaned early. He had extraordinary talent, far beyond the crowd. He was more than six feet three inches tall.(10) He was eloquent and handsome, but he made his appearance plain and didn’t dress up. People considered him distinguished and elegant, but it was innate, naturally so.
He studied without instruction from teachers, read widely and comprehended everything. He was married into the ruling family of Wei and was given a prestige title. He used to practice nurturing nature and ingesting elixirs. He played the lute and sang poetry, enough to comfort his heart.
He considered spiritual immortality to be an endowment from nature, not a product of learning. As for reasonable exercise and nutrition, the standards of Anqi(11) and Grandfather Peng(12) could be reached, so he wrote Discourse on Nurturing Life.
Those with whom he always considered spiritual communication genuine were only Ruan Ji of Chenliu and Shan Tao of Henei, while those who joined their set were Xiang Xiu, Liu Ling, Ji’s nephew Han, and Wang Ru, eventually making up the Bamboo Grove association.
Ru said he’d lived with Kang in Shenyang for twenty years and never once saw him either angry or joyful.
Kang used to gather herbs, roaming mountains and wetlands. When he’d get into a good mood, he’d become ecstatic and forget to return. The occasional woodcutter or thatch cutter who encountered him thought he was a spirit man.
He went to the mountains of Ji county,(13) where he saw Sun Deng and then went wandering along with him. Deng was sunk in silence and self-contained; he didn’t talk or say anything. When Kang was about to leave, he asked for a word of advice. Deng said, “Your talent is of a high order, but your way of preserving your body is inadequate.”
He also met Wang Lie, and they went into the mountains together. Lie once found some stone marrow like rock sugar. He ingested half and gave the rest to Kang. In both cases it crystallized.
Wang also once saw a silk text in a cavern and immediately called Kang to go get it, but suddenly it could no longer be seen. Lie lamented, “Shuye’s mentality is extraordinary, and yet even though he looked right away he couldn’t find it. That’s fate.”
When Shan Tao was about to leave, he was selected for office but recommended Kang in his stead. Kang then presented Shan Tao with a letter announcing termination of contact. In sum it said, “I have heard the sayings left by Taoists, that ingesting polygonatum and atractylodes enables people to prolong the life span, and I have a lot of confidence in this. Roaming the mountains and wilds, watching birds and fish, is a pleasure to my heart. Were I to become an official, I’d have to give all of this up. How can I abandon what I enjoy to pursue what I fear! Now I just want to stay in a humble neighborhood, raise my children and grandchildren, from time to time express my feelings about separation and distance from relatives and friends, talking about the old days. A cup of unfiltered wine, a tune on the lute—that’s the extent of my ambition!”
Now that this had been put in writing, it was obvious he couldn’t be compelled or constrained.
The governor of Nanhai, Bao Jing, was one in communion with the miraculous; Xu Ning of Donghai took him for his teacher. One night Ning heard the sound of a lute in Jing’s room; marveling at its refinement, he asked about it. Jing said, “That was Ji Shuye.” Ning said, “Ji was killed—how could he be here?”(14)
Jing said, “Shuye projected the appearance of dying, but in reality he just left the body.”
This appears in Gu Kaizhi’s(15) eulogy of Ji Kang.
Footnotes:
10. Seven chi eight cun: based on these measures as of Jin times, this would be somewhat more than six feet three inches. Presumably this was above average for his time and place.
11. Anqi Sheng is a legendary immortal associated with the island of Penglai. He is supposed to have lived more than a thousand years. The First Emperor of China, who was intensely interested in immortality, is said to have met Anqi on a journey east.
12. Grandfather Peng is supposed to have lived for eight hundred years. A manual on energy-induction exercises attributed to him can be found in the Baopuzi. See Daozang jiyao, vol. 20, p. 8686.
13. In Henan.
14. The Ming dynasty scholar Li Zhi recounts the story of Ji Kang’s murder in his Zangshu:
“Kang was poor and supported himself by working as a smith. In those days Zhong Hui, a friend of Sima Zhao, heard of Kang and went to visit him. Hui was a distinguished gentleman, esteemed for talent and ability, who rode on hefty horses and wore lightweight clothes, with a huge crowd of hangers-on. Kang kept working at his forge and didn’t pay attention. Hui was impressed with him.
“When Shan Tao was chosen to be a courtier, he nominated Kang instead. Kang wrote a letter refusing and cutting off contact, explaining that he personally could not stand current customs, not that he was slighting the example of sagacious kings of old. So when Sima Zhao heard of this, he hated Kang.
“Kang was on good terms with Lu Zhao and his younger brother An. An was smitten with Kang’s loftiness and would go to any lengths for him. Now, Lu Zhao had an illicit affair with An’s wife and then condemned An for disrespect and had him imprisoned. An called on Kang to testify for him. Kang’s sense of justice was not without appreciation, so he explained the matter.
“Like Kang, An was also very zealous in his will to save the world. Zhong Hui urged Lu Zhao to take this opportunity to get rid of him. So he killed An, and Kang too.”
15. Gu Kaizhi (345–406) was a poet, painter, and courtier.

1: What did you do in 2020 that you’d never done before?
2: Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
3: Did anyone close to you give birth?
Ikzelf dus.
4: Did anyone close to you die?
Nee.
5: What countries did you visit?
Zuid-Afrika.
6: What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019?
7: What dates from 2020 will remain etched upon your memory?
8: What was your biggest achievement of the year?
9: What was your biggest failure?
10: Did you suffer illness or injury?
Daarnaast was mijn zwangerschap zelf behoorlijk ziekte-vrij.
11: What was the best thing you bought?
12: Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Mijn man en mijn naaste omgeving, toen ik behoorlijk last had van zwangerschapshormonen.
13: Whose behaviour made you appalled?
14: Where did most of your money go?
15: What did you get really, really, really excited about?
16: What song will always remind you of 2020?
“Last Great American Dynasty” van Taylor Swift, van het album Folklore.
17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter?  c.) richer or poorer?
a.       Sadder
b.       Thinner
c.       Poorer
18: What do you wish you’d done more of?
19: What do you wish you’d done less of?
Klagen.
20: How did you spend Christmas?
21: Did you fall in love in 2020?
Op mijn zoontje.
22: What was your favourite TV program?
Wie is de Mol, de serie Parks and Recreation die we opnieuw zijn gaan kijken, Kamp van Koningsbrugge, The Queens Gambit, Tiger King en Draadstaal.
23: Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nee.
24: What was the best book you read?
25: What was your greatest musical discovery?
26: What did you want and get?
27: What did you want and not get?
28: What was your favourite film of this year?
29: What one thing made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
30: How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2020?
31: What kept you sane?
Slapen. Heel. Veel. Slapen.
32: Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Taylor Swift denk ik. En Sam Heugan?
33: What political issue stirred you the most?
34: Who did you miss?
35: Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2020.
36: Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Can I go, where you go? Can we always be this close? Forerver and ever…

That is the gentlest “it’s an order” ever because it’s a complete plea.
The fact that she still thinks she wants revenge after this scene and not realizes he’s a human golden retriever makes me wonder if she was dropped on the head a lot as a child.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, something has occurred to me - all the scheming families who are all “we are gonna make our kid queen and not her” - do they realize that in a polygamous society it’s not a zero sum game? If they make one of their evil daughters queen, what’s to prevent the King from making Eun Bo his concubine? Sure, it’s not the queen hat, but a concubine he is obsessed with can have a hell of a lot more power (and possibly produce the next king, becoming extra powerful) than a queen he doesn’t like. I mean, if she’s ruthless enough, remember Jang Hui Bin?

PENTAGON  META
PENTAGON TIME!!
Thoughts:
Self-produced
Choreo always matches songs well
Overall pretty talented
Good chemistry, all have same type of aura and musicality, but with enough differences to make diverse music
Refreshing, not overly cute
Why haven't they gotten a win yet? like literally everyone knows Shine and it's not even their best song :'(
Hui's composing is fantastic
Several members can play instruments too
Kino can choreograph
Members:
Hui: The charismatic leader. Undeniably incredible vocalist. Nice raspy voice with great range and control. Also a talented dancer, composes a LOT (all?) of their songs, as well as songs for other groups. Adorable, is cute a lot, does random acrobatics all the time (?), tries to rule as leader but often gets bullied by the other members lol.
Tumblr media
Jinho: Oldest yet cutest. All around capable: decent dancer, good rapper, spectacular vocalist. Clear voice but can get a rocker vibe and grit into when he wants, see Runaway, Can you feel it.
Tumblr media
Hongseok: Fitness buff, surreal washboard abs and overall MUSCLES. Also angelic voice, with a soft and gentle tone. Big corny dork, giggle is super high pitched lol. Good at English, pretty bad at dancing, but obviously practices really hard since he often dances other groups choreo and can do well on sped up versions of songs.
Tumblr media
Shinwon: Absolute dork. Hilarious and totally ridiculous most of the time. Talks and laughs a lot, trickster. Lovely low tone voice that is really rich, decent dancer too and overall enthusiastic. Can play piano. Short temper lol, screams.
Tumblr media
Yeo One: Passion guy! Low self-esteem and always thinks he can do better so tries super hard and is very intense. Basically a jukebox, can play guitar, decent dancer. MC of the group, good at speaking, acting, very sincere.
Tumblr media
Yanan: Shanghai prince. Unintentionally funny especially when angry. Doesn't put up with the other members bulls**t lol. Very sweet voice, legs for days. Entertaining ways of expressing himself and dealing with the other members. Also can play piano.
Tumblr media
Yuto: Shy, gets nervous and tight before stages. Low tone "serious" guy but in reality quite adorable. High pitched giggle from such a deep voice is disconcerting yet hilarious. Great rapper, good dancer, ABS lol. Very polite and kind. Iconic "Yutoda".
Tumblr media
Kino: Dance king, creates some of their choreo, girl group dances, freestyle, anything. Seems older than he is with his responsibility and maturity (most of the time). Very sensitive, gets teased by the other members for it a lot. Lots of stage presence.
Tumblr media
Wooseok: Giant maknae (though in reality a week or less younger than Yuto and Kino), super tall. Great rapper, but also decent singer. Is main in chorus a lot, silly, a lot goes over his head, likes to tease older members.

Un corpus derivativo che va a pescare da cose tipo Bloodsuckers from Outer Space, The Boneyard, La città verrà distrutta all’albae…

Two words sum up Jiang Ziya: upside down—— On "peaceful evolution" from ancient to modern times, Jiang Ziya's "Twelve cultural festivals" and the "Ten Commandments" of the CIA
Tibetan king Bodhisattva
Reality makes the intention of Jiang Ziya a joke! A COVID-19 stripped the American "Lighthouse" underwear, and the 40 year old twisted lie was stabbed. The system left over from the Mao Zedong era protects the Chinese nation, while the capitalist system in the United States, even the Pope, publicly claims that "the epidemic proves that the capitalist theory has failed", and religion will be cut off from "capitalism"! The Chinese started the reflection mode, market economics failed, and political economics has begun to return! The line of the first 30 years of Mao Zedong's era has been proved to be correct! Has been reversed
Two words sum up Jiang Ziya: upside down!
——On "peaceful evolution" from ancient to modern times, the CIA's "Ten Commandments" originated from Jiang Ziya's "Twelve festivals of literary criticism"
Two words can sum up the theme of the film Jiang Ziya - upside down! That is, use the trick of "reversing black and white" and the new edition of "exquisite and pale" to incite rebellion and spread the idea of "rebel system! Rebel leader! Rebel authority!"! Play a public opinion guidance role similar to "voice of America"!
Upside down! It is nothing more than the old method of "peaceful evolution" in the old era! For example, Yue Fei was not a national hero, so the traitor Qin Hui stood up, the traitor Li Hongzhang was portrayed as worrying about the country and the people, Chiang Kai Shek was beautified, the national army was beautified, and the Republic of China was beautified as a "golden decade", the first three decades of new China were vilified as "starving to death of 30 million", Mao Zedong was vilified and vilified, and the heroes Liu Hulan, Lei Feng Huang Jiguang and others have all been slandered by rumors. Those with poor efficiency of state-owned enterprises have been slandered as "zombie enterprises", and those with good efficiency of state-owned enterprises have been slandered as "monopoly". Privatization is the way out for state-owned enterprises (whether the efficiency of public ownership economy is good or bad, it is a sin?). The United States has been beautified as a "lighthouse

The United States has been beautified as a "lighthouse country", and the problems in China are "System problems, need to be in line with international standards and carry out political system reform", the party leading the way is glorious, patriots are vilified as "angry youth, losers and patriotic thieves", and pro american foreign slaves are beautified as "elite and public knowledge", so as to pollute the "public knowledge" This good word has become a derogatory word on the Internet... It is common to confuse black and white and peaceful evolution in the cultural field of the characteristic old era! The common people have long been "strange"!
So, what is the "upside down" routine of the film Jiang Ziya?
Let Jiang Ziya help Su Daji take revenge and help the Fox family of nine tail demon foxes take revenge. Draw a knife to kill their own system and the leader Tianzun - the film tells you that Su Daji is innocent. The film author named Su Daji "Xiao Jiu" and let Jiang Ziya and "Xiao Jiu" It's estimated that Jiang Ziya and Su Daji are just laughing at each other. The film tells you that the Nine Tailed Fox demon is the victim of the deception of the emperor, and the whole fox demon family is the victim; the villain Shen Gongbao is a hero; but the emperor who lives high in the temple, overthrows the old world of Shang and Zhou Dynasties and establishes a new world of Zhou Dynasty has been vilified! Just like Mao Zedong in the characteristic old era! The film The author repeatedly emphasizes that Tianzun is a liar. Although there is no convincing evidence in the film, Jiuwei fox told Jiang Ziya that Tianzun asked her to help destroy the business, promised to reward her after success, but actually killed the Fox family after success (it doesn't make sense logically. If Tianzun wants to kill the mouth, only one Jiuwei fox is enough. Why kill all innocent fox families?) , the new world established by the Heavenly Master is also rendered like hell. The only way to save the souls of the wronged ghosts in the world is the Xuanniao. When the Xuanniao appeared, the film featured its "one eye", suggesting that the "Masonic society" is the Xuanniao... The climax of the film is Jiang Ziya's final rebellion! After listening to the words of the Nine Tailed Fox, he "lit his sword" on his own system without verification ! wield the whip to kill Tianzun... The narrator said that Tianzun was subdued by his master (a higher-level immortal), and the situation of Tianzun was gone. Therefore, the style of the film was reversed, and the world that used to be like hell became sunny, singing birds and fragrant flowers. All these are the "credit" of Jiang Ziya's anti rebel system and rebellion against Tianzun.
If you want to destroy your country, destroy your history first; if you want to destroy your family, destroy your culture first! Just rely on the trick of "inversion"!
Jiang Ziya's technique is common and nothing new. It just continues the "old era of reform and opening up". After the "market-oriented reform" was manipulated by capital, the film and television field has become a "thug" in the "peaceful evolution" of the United States. - reversing black and white, history, reality and cultural traditions! Encouraging rebellion, sinking ships, pushing walls and leading the way in an attempt to subvert the system - no matter what Lust, caution upside down to discredit martyr Zheng pingru, or assembly upside down to discredit the system (there is only a charge number, there is no retreat number, and the retreat has always been a secret retreat. Where
