The Majority and Protests

This is quite an intriguing topic indeed, the majority. If you’re one of the people in the majority then you really have nothing to fear or even give a second thought to. But then again, nobody is that lucky to always be on the side of the majority every time right? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the majority is always oppressive and they curb or oppress the minority. Just know this, when people are in a huge group, sharing similar ideas, they tend to drift a lot closer to this goal of theirs and sideline a lot of the other things that the people in the minority would want. 

Suppose, for instance, a protest in an university, all the students unite for a common cause and everyone is passionate about the issues being raised. But there are still some dumbfucks who’re raising unrelated, irritating slogans and just doing things for their own fun (I don’t have a problem with people having fun either but there’s a time and a place for things and protests are NOT THE PLACE for such things). Because of this, the ones who are present solely for the issues to be addressed start to get irritated by the things happening and slowly begin to lose interest in the main cause. My opinion on the particular instance is that if these elements somehow start to have the influence on the majority then the main issue will be sidelined and the proceeding will turn into something else entirely.

Peer pressure, this too is something, that, like other things has its pros and cons, though recently I’ve just been seeing its cons. When you do not want to do something, do not want to be involved in it, you just do NOT do them. Even if it’s your friends pressuring you into smoking or drinking you’ll be able to reject them if you stand your ground and do what you want to do. You do not get ostracized when you refuse to drink or smoke with your friends. Sure, you might be made fun of for a while but that doesn’t really matter when you see them doing dumb things  in the state if intoxication that they would never otherwise do. But on the other hand if you want to go against the flow of something such as a protest going on and be the odd one out you’ll not only end up being ostracized but you might also end up facing other types of aggression. 

People like me, who like the peace and quiet might be a bit perturbed by this but if the cause is just we’ll support it until we find some dumb & unrelated shit being done by a bunch of unruly and rambunctious people. After that, our support may be a bit limited but we’ll not really do anything to go against the cause that we know is just. So, are we not to have the peace and freedom we deserve? Do the people we call our friends and allies have to judge us for not participating with as much enthusiasm and rigor as they are? Why can’t we resolve things like the rational human beings that we pride ourselves to be?
