131: RomildaHagrid
Romilda didn't mind rock cakes and rough living. She loved their adventures. Or, she used to.
Her eyes drifted to Hagrid across their campfire. The embers highlighted his size. But she thought how he was such a small man.
For being a half-giant, Hagrid had a talent for being down on himself, drawing in on himself. He came alive on an adventure, but it never lasted.
It was too much for Romilda, showing him that the world was the right size for him, for her, that he wasn't some insignificant Skrewt to be dismissed.
She wanted love, not a project.
132: DemelzaAngelina
Quidditch brought them together, but it would tear them apart, too.
Demelza and Angelina shared skills on the pitch and interests off it. Demelza thought it helped, them both having grown up with half-Muggle families. There was a certain charm about bewitching a Walkman to play the Weird Sisters' latest album while one flew around with the device tied to one's broom handle.
But Angelina's friend group never changed, and she preferred their company to her girlfriend's, never hiding her annoyance that the years between them meant there were memories and experiences she and Demelza simply wouldn't have in common.
133: PadmaErnie
Love in the post-war world wasn't a sure bet.
Many in their year made their pairs, of course. Hannah married Neville, Ernie settled for Padma (D.A. bonds were funny that way), and life moved on.
But then Hannah divorced Neville and landed herself on the Macmillans' doorstep for comfort. Hope was evident on Ernie's barely lined face, but it was Padma she sought out instead, because Padma understood loss better (Parvati in the war, Hannah's mum shortly before).
Padma's heart skipped a beat. Because she loved Ernie…
…but she'd settled, too, when sweet, dear Hannah Abbott had married someone else.
134: HugoViktor
Language barriers weren't a problem. Even if they were, there were Translation Charms to help.
Hugo frowned from behind his book as Viktor and those around them jumped to their feet to cheer over some call on the pitch. Hugo didn't know what caused the cheer. He never did. He wasn't as big into Quidditch as the rest of his family.
"An amazingk game, no, Hugo?" Viktor asked, beaming down at him. His face fell when he realized his young paramour read instead.
Viktor's disappointment hurt Hugo. He knew Viktor deserved someone who shared his interests…but so did Hugo.
135: ChoTonks
Cho flips through her letters with Tonks and debates the past, present, and future all at once.
After Cedric's death, Tonks was the Auror who interviewed Cho in the aftermath, but the witches stayed in touch once it was apparent the attack had been limited to the castle only. Cho's glad because she enjoys the witch's liveliness and wonders what life after Hogwarts awaits her (is Tonks in it?).
But the war is only heating up as Cho graduates, and she knows she doesn't want a life of waiting to hear the bad news about the next love she'll lose.
136: BlaisePercy
Truth be told, Blaise thought fondly of how they started, with Percy storming into his office for giving young Molly a middling mark on her Ancient Runes O.W.L. as though he were a single parent doing double duty and not a newly divorced (doting) dad.
But, fun though it was to see Percy get hot under the collar and try to rein it in, one thing about Percy Weasley never would change: He was too much about aspirations. Even with Blaise in front of him, he was obsessed with the wrong things.
For that, Blaise gave him a failing mark.
137: LunaRoger
House loyalties engendered a certain kinship. That was why Luna was curious and a touch thrilled to have Ginny reintroduce her to Roger when the latter two met again on the professional Quidditch pitch. Roger Davies was like some fantastical creature himself, the prince straight out of the books Muggles read to their children. The only difference was he had magic and his magic was real.
But there was no magic between him and Luna. He was a prince and he was kind, yes, but a House was all they had in common.
So Luna happily let him fly free.
138: HugoLysander
      "Lysander—"
      "Hugo—"
They chuckled at having spoken in unison. "You go first," Hugo insisted.
Lysander smiled. "I don't recall the last time I did that with someone who wasn't Lorcan," he joked as he leaned on his half of the couch in the Hufflepuff common room.
"Well, when you need a mate, you know where to find me," Hugo quipped. His smile fell, realizing how that sounded to the older boy, the very one who'd confessed to him earlier this year and whom Hugo supposedly was dating.
      "I do," Lysander agreed.
So…the feeling of friendship was mutual.
139: AstoriaAndromeda
Astoria sees a kind, welcoming woman when she thinks of or looks at Andromeda. It's more than the advice Andromeda gave her that helped Astoria avoid the disaster of marrying into the Malfoy family that bonds them. Astoria understands how Ted fell for this witch decades ago, and she cherishes that she can be around Andromeda now.
But the bitterness of two wars still lingers in Andromeda's home. It clings to her like a melancholic shawl, and sometimes Andromeda looks less like herself and more like her two very dangerous sisters.
And Astoria can't stomach the thought of staying anymore.
140: OliverAdrian
He can't stand the thought of Adrian not playing.
Adrian scratches the back of his head as he talks retirement. "I know it's early, but the time feels right, Oliver."
Oliver scrambles for words. "What" is all he can manage.
"Nothing changes between us," Adrian assures him, removing his hand from his hair, resting it on Oliver's chest. Any other time, the motion would be a comforting one of affection.
But tonight isn't any other time. And Oliver worries that, despite Adrian's words, this changes one of the biggest things about them, even if they've not said the words yet….
Remarks for—
Ch133: :O Love a little triangle with a femslash twist at the end! But this otherwise just makes my heart ache, *lol*.
Ch134: GAH. Vikugh's a srsly cute ship (go read "Some Die Young" and "Muggle-Like"), and I adore writing Viktor and his accent, hence that seeming typo (it's on purpose, I assure you). Writing this makes me wanna go write a happy Vikugh now, tho.
Ch138: Tmw you accidentally friend-zone yourself.
Ch139: Always impt to play up Andy's resemblance to her sisters (esp Bella). Rereading "New Life's Resolution" gave me an Astormeda hankering, hence this drabble.
Thanks for reading, and feel free to leave an anon/unsigned review via the FFN link or comment via the AO3 link at the top of the post, especially if you enjoyed this!
