Do you think there will be a SMTM this year? There hasn't been any announcements or anything yet.

No clue. There's been speculation that it was cancelled but mnet is still holding that nothing is confirmed yet when people ask if or claim it is cancelled.

My own personal speculation based on literally no evidence: If I was in the position of having a show like SMTM on my network, which has been largely successful over the last 11 years but has drastically dropped in ratings in more recent seasons, I would be taking this time to rethink the show and what new things we could do with it.

So I imagine that maybe they are doing just that. Maybe they are thinking up ways to get the general public more invested in the show, doing research on what is making other shows in Korea popular, maybe rethinking marketing and promotion, maybe getting some deals with other brands to bring more money to the show, and so on and so forth.

Season 11 was the lowest rated season ever. I think there's multiple reasons for this such as the Itaewon tragedy, general scheduling (the show was on the air until December 30th last year!!!!), a lot of people complaining that it was too obvious who was gonna win (in all fairness, people say this EVERY season LOL), and other things. So they definitely had incentive to take a step back and figure things out.

Another option is that maybe the staff of SMTM is in the background fighting HEAVILY for the show to stay on air but there could be others at Mnet who don't see it for the show anymore since it isn't as popular/profitable anymore. SMTM is very obviously a REALLY expensive show to film so I could see mnet execs wanting someone to justify the price. Mnet could realistically run just fine without SMTM as it has for decades so it'd have to be making the higher ups the money they want, you know?

Another option is that maybe they are just gonna lapse for one year like they did between HSR3 and 4. It turned out to be not that big of a deal.

But again, all speculation and overthinking on my part.

and yes !! i think she likes to lean into her variety side so much that people tend to forget that she's actually really good at her Main Job HEJFKD like i can't believe she's grown so much in such a short amount of time, especially since she was so new to rapping when she came onto hsr3 ! i'm literally gonna watch smtm11 just for her; and i always love seeing her have deeper conversations with people on her show like soobin and hoshi because i feel like she has such a good mindset! she's only a year older than me which is sooo wild for me to think about but :") i want more serious talks with youngji ngl NFJWKFK i almost like it more than the funny stuff... it lets me dissect their brains
