finally finished my 8 week rewatch of hsmtmts season 4 and currently sobbing again

so i just finished the final season of hsmtmts and i’m 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

that was an emotional rollercoaster

i can’t believe that season:

gave us the best written episode in this show which is 4x05 (nneka gerstle thank you for those beautifully written scenes)

and the most chaotic one (4x06)

made me kind of like rina???

gave us a portwell scene 😭😭😭😭😭 😭

gave us the most emotional speeches ever

gave us a credits scene of them sing born to be brave in a limo with the camera

an after credits scene of the cast singing for good from wicked 😭

there is sm more to talk about but that’s a little summary.

however i made notes while watching of my reactions so i’ll post those episode by episode at some point.

but anyways i’m still trying to process that this show is over but i feel so grateful that i discovered it. no matter whether i have liked or disliked certain choices the show has made i still love it to bits. i remember watching it for the first just as 2x01 came out and immediately fell in love with it. a couple months after i made some amazing friends in the fandom who i love sm! this show also made me discover the most wonderful cast ever (major props to the casting directors there) and they have the sweetest and most wholesome friendship with each other, and though this show is over i know that they are all going to do amazing things in the future bc they’re SO TALENTED and i will 1000% be supporting them every step of the way. this show has been a piece of comfort to me and honestly may always will be. my only regret with this show was not watching it sooner.

thank you to the incredible and talented cast and crew who brought this show to life, thank you to all the friends i’ve made in this fandom, thank you to my family and anyone i have added on snapchat for putting up with me freaking out over this show 24/7 for the past two years. don’t know how long it’ll be until my bio on multiple social media platforms isn’t “just a girl who fangirls over hsmtmts on the daily” but i am not ready for that day yet 😭💕

sofia wylie is an incredibly talented actress and performer that has been giving amazing monologues and acting performances like she gave in gina’s goodbye speech in 4x08 since forever and instead of appreciating her for that and also appreciating how far her singing has improved since s1 (when she’s never been a singer) half this fandom consistently tries to dim her light and overshadow her because they cannot let go of a Certain actress and a Certain real life relationship they still obsess over to this day. any time without fail she gets shine whether it be a performance of hers or a scene with ricky as character they come out of the woodworks talking about they miss olivia and it could have been her. every time she has a big scene and/or duet as gina with ricky they constantly bring up a duet or scene between rini and talk about how nothing can compare when we All know they’re talking about that certain real life relationship and not the actual characters; especially because the only scene they ever talk about is ricky’s confession and that’s because they’re obsessed with the fact it was improvised bc of that certain real life relationship.

and then they’ll pretend they like sofia and their comments aren’t in bad faith when it happens constantly in so many ways and has been since s1 (trying to convince people that joshua didn’t like her and sending her hate for liking rina being examples). they’ll get mad at you when you tell them to stop spamming every video of hers that has to do with hsmtmts that she “looks like olivia rodrigo” by saying it’s not that deep and it’s a compliment. would you want your comment section obnoxiously filled with how you look like someone else and that be the only thing they focus on? and we all know whenever they try to weirdly say it about gina they really just are trying to think of her as nini because they can’t let go of That relationship.

i love hsmtmts but one of the reasons i’m glad it’s ended is so sofia can eventually move on to a show or movie that doesn’t have a fandom (and unprofessional journalists and news outlets like entertainment weekly who literally is cutting her out of videos and the daily beast with their terrible s4 reviews) that is constantly trying to dim her light.

the contrast between hsmtmts 1x10 and 4x08 concerning Ricky is crazy.

in 1x10 he leaves the performance, quite literally hightails it off the stage because he thinks he’s not good enough for nini. He thinks he’s not gonna be able to help her get into YAC because of how badly he’s messing up (and I mean, he messed up one performance and nini wasn’t even there, so how would he know??) and gives the role away to ej because he thinks “ej is the right Troy for ninis Gabriella.”

then compare that to 4x08 (and by association, 4x07). Ricky has never been more ready for this musical in his entire life. Even after he finds out about Gina leaving (which is almost worse than finding out your mom has a new boyfriend, even though he’s known about Todd since thanksgiving, don’t hurt me ok) Ricky keeps his head in the game and continues to be there for Gina. because he knows her. he knows that he needs to be there for her, in part because of all of his character development and also because Gina is the one. Gina is his person. Gina’s the one who constantly supports him and gets him and is there for him. so he stays with it and absolutely slaps the entire second half of the show. and then and then and then - man literally SPRINTS to the real stage in order to catch Gina before she’s too late. Because while nini had to practically pull Ricky into the aisle to begin their performance (a bit dramatic, but I digress) Ricky runs for his life (after his life / future hehe) so he’s able to give “the audition” (and the performance) “of a lifetime.” (Direct quote from the leaked script, by the way. I didn’t make it up) I dunno I just thought it was interesting how Ricky was one foot in the door the whole first season with nini, never quite committing, but the whole fourth season Ricky is jumping around inside the house being the absolute best boyfriend ever and chasing his future wife down to sing her a song.

I have no idea if this made sense or even if anyone will know what I’m talking about but it’s been on my mind for a couple of hours and I just had to say it
