Bingo: Eridan
Tumblr media
this was a fun one because while eridan isnt quite anywhere near my favorite homestuck character, it sometimes feels like im the only mf with reading comprehension in regards to how hes not only written, but how hes presented as well.
homestuck's colorful cast of characters is definitely one of its greatest strengths, and i think eridan is an incredibly well-written character. he practically exemplifies troll tradition; kill with no remorse (pre-game with fef's lusus especially but also u know. feferi and half-dead-sollux) and pursue filling quadrants. the dude is drowning in upholding tradition (and im not surprised reading military history is listed as one of his hobbies). he goes on and on about his genocide complex and hating land dwellers, but when the chips are down he doesnt mean it and he doesnt want his land-dwelling friends dead at all. the dude bottles up so much and refuses to talk to his own moirail about his problems. hes just. an incredibly grumpy, sad boy, and i can see how he appeals to people, especially to fans who also feel suppressed in some way. lastly, i dont think eridan is a creep. everyone who disagrees can go back and read kanaya: return to the core. like. hes just a kid in his feelings and hes an ass most of the time but he doesnt keep pushing it with fef like everybody thinks for some reason lmao.
ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, while im here i want to say that karkat is the fucker that eridan actually talks with about his feelings and not even feferi time and time again, and honestly brings out the actual best in eridan. i would have really liked to see them go pale in canon, because karkat being burdened with gamzee as a moirail kind of just breaks my heart, but act 5 was a little too short for that. by homestuck standards i guess.
THANKS FOR THE ASK BYRD i enjoy dipping my fingers into the recesses of my mind to remember homestuck stuff.

it hasn't even been five minutes but hello. it's cherub talktime.
Caliborn redemption arc?? Is that possible?
Not really, no. Caliborn is very happy being Terrible™. he doesnt have a reason need nor want to be redeemed—and in the case of redemption for romance (which I've seen in a good number of fics) is unlikely at best, and is still a tangled mess of him doing what he Wants (and god forbid he loses control of himself and the things around him. He gets antsy when things don't go his way, through his plan, by his means).
on the topic of the cherubim, calliope.!! the shetheypogchamp. Calliope has a lot of her own flaws! Ignoring them in favour of keeping her as the "good" counterpart to caliborn (or even just as the good character in the story—Calliope did nothing wrong, sort of thing) is a terrible perversion of her character. Goodness, you can have a good character do terrible things! A good character can be wrong in some areas, or lacking, or just not be perfect. What makes them good isn't just that she's aligned with what's right and helps the heros win—it's also that Calliope is willing to change for the better, to learn from her mistakes and grow. That is what defines a good person.
Caliborn does not want to change, nor should he. He's a prime (and somewhat exaggerated) example of a person who is never going to change, and is perfectly content carrying out their malevolent deeds. He does not want redemption. Nor should he be given it.
That's all there really is to say on the matter.

Resources and Links!
Many of us cannot afford the rigorous SAT and ACT courses offered at school or outside of the household. Many of us can barely manage to afford the tests themselves. Here are some helpful links that we’ve gathered to help students like you study to your full potential. You can access every link we’ve ever posted on the menu to the left hand side.

Q. and A.: College Admissions from The New York Times
The Deans of Admissions from Yale, Pomona, Lawrence University, and University of Texas at Austin discuss a wide variety of college admissions questions - Are application essays all read? How important is the SAT Writing section? What’s the best way to stand out? Is there a bias against homeschooling?
You don’t want to miss this Q & A.
Admissions Advice from Students Who Have Overcome the Odds
This is a blog post that one of PhD teacher’s assistants had put together. It’s a collection of interviews with students from Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Duke, UC Berkeley, and UChicago. Each student shares his or her experience with the college admissions process - What would they have done differently? How did they structure their high school schedule? How did they prepare for the SAT/ACTs? What extracurricular activities made them stand out? What advice would they have for students currently in the trenches? Our Chapman University PhD teacher’s assistant has gathered all the information and put her comments at the end of the segment. Be sure to look over her suggestions and tips to get a full understanding of this interview!
How I Self-Studied for the SAT (and got a 2300+)
This is a 5-minute youtube video with some great advice for self-studying for the SAT. Definitely worth watching to learn: - her favorite reading sources for long-term reading prep - the specific method she used for learning vocabulary - keys to the SAT essay - how she avoided making silly mistakes on the SAT math - places to turn to for test-taking and college admissions advice

I think this can be taken outside of a Homestuck context, but my god is it fairly prevalent here due to the existence of FANSESSIONS, TROLLSONAS, and OTHER ORIGINAL CHARACTERS the use the HOMESTUCK CANON as a funky JUMPING BOARD. So, with that—–-
Making oc's and fan content is not bad! It is not cringe, it is not shameful, and it should not be shunned. There will always be a minority of terrible things made to be harmful, but for the overwhelming majority, this is all harmless fun that is used to express oneself through a media they enjoy. And due to the nature of Homestuck and it's characters and content, there is a lot to take from!
These ideas are special to the person making them, and is in many ways an extension and expression of themselves. Beating this down is just as bad as beating the person down!
I feel like due to the nature of canonicity, people are quick to accept characters that are canon in-universe, but it should really be noted that even canon is still, someone's oc(s). Andrew Hussie creates these characters, they're theirs, and they're their oc's! It is hardly different from a fan making fanon content.
Making your own creative content that shares a universe or common attributes with a pre-existing media or franchise is valid, because in the end, it's the same as making said media or franchise. The quality just depends on the person.
If it makes someone happy, and is entirely harmless, is it really worth being mean or rude? Aren't we all humans, making content we enjoy? How is making fan content any different from original content, and why does it have to be less than the original/inspired content?
