A Lass That Is Gone, Chapter I: Wedding Gone Wrong
Author’s Notes:
This is a mini series of the Pirate AU which was started by @camillejeaneshphm and that has been on my mind lately.
English is not my first language, so please forgive any typos/grammar mistakes
Georgia Coventry belongs to @camillejeaneshphm . OCs mentioned and that will appear soon: William Devlin @unfortunate-arrow Nadia Erbland @gcldensnitch and Laurent Yaxley @slytherindisaster
Summary: On her wedding day, Lady Primrose is abducted by a band of pirates, and a series of events changes her life forevermore
Word Count: 2.2k
TW: Violence, language, violence and misogyny of the era.
Taglist: @gaygryffindorgal @camillejeaneshphm
June, 1703
Lady Primrose Gray had her entire life planned out from the moment her birth revealed her sex: she’d be bred to be a submissive, pleasing, demure and quiet wife to her future husband. She’d learn to be a lady who’d do good for her family and do right by him by giving him as many sons as God blessed her with.
On her fifteenth birthday, she was betrothed to Mr. William Devlin, the ward of Lord Carlisle. Not the auspicious match the Viscountess hoped to make with the younger brother of the Lady Coventry, but it’d have to do.
Soon, a year later, Primrose was preparing for her wedding day. She had been dressed and was putting on some makeup and preparing her jewels with her Maids of Honour and ladies in waiting when the door knocked.
“Come in!” She beckoned, thinking it’d her mother. How she’d wish later she did not utter a word again.
“A present from your groom, madam.”
She picked the wooden box and opened to find… nothing. She was about to ask when Georgia’s voice woke her.
“Let go of me!” She cried.
She then noticed the gun on his hip and realised it too late. She picked a jar and tried to knock the man, but he was quicker and grabbed her arm, twisting it behind her and entrapping her. She screamed and kicked, trying to bite the man, but she was incredibly tight.
“Help me! Guards! Father! Hel—,”
Before she could finish the sentence, she was knocked out with a whack of the back of the pistol on her head.
Lord Vincent Gray paced around as he listened to the messenger “Abducted? How? By whom?”
“Pirates, sire. They took her alongside Lady Coventry, Miss Erbland, Miss Rosier, and many others.”
He sighed as his wife wept “My only child! Whoever will take care of the estate after we pass away?!”
“Not to mention Lord Carlisle still waits for an answer.” The Dowager Viscountess pointed out.
“I am very well aware, Alina. I have no option but tell the truth. It is best if I tell him on my own, man to man.”
They all nodded as they cried for the girl’s loss. Lord Carlisle was of course distraught and rather disappointed by the situation. The nuptials would’ve given him many allies in Parliament, not to mention that with the Gray fortune, his ward would be taken care of.
He wished him luck on finding his daughter and offered help, which he thanked.
As he exited the manor, he prayed that the king would be fond of his family well enough to find his little girl soon, for if he didn’t, this would result in the disappearance of Winbourne.
Primrose did not know how much time had passed: if hours, days, or months. She only relived remnants of her life that was slowly leaving behind. The engagement ball, the awkward talk of producing an heir with her mother, the night fallen and her scandalous rendezvous with Mr. Yaxley, the warm hug they had, the abduction… So much in a matter of months had passed, and she prayed that this was all a nightmare and she was on the ottoman of the church, all this nightmare as a result of a vanishment of her pre-wedding nerves.
“You there, the black-haired lass, wake up!”
She slowly started to open her eyes when a rotten stench invaded her nostrils and quickly recoiled. When her eyes opened, she found rotten, yellow teeth and a smirk on them “Will you look at that, Kendrick! That Devlin boy must be sorry for have missed such an opportunity to go down with this beauty!”
“Well,” one pirate remarked “her legs aren’t tied!”
They all cackled and Primrose realised, to her own horror, that indeed, her legs weren’t tied and tried to gather them as close as she could. They were toying with their belts when a grave voice spoke “There won’t be any of that here. The Lady Gray and Lady Coventry are to dine with me… and now belong to me, and myself alone.”
“I am the future Duchess of Coventry,” Georgia spitted “and I will bow myself to no man, less alone a criminal!”
He knelt down to look at Georgia and chuckled “Feisty. Just as I like them.” He then took a look at Primrose “This one though, this one is strikingly beautiful, and quiet enough—,” He was interrupted then by her spitting at his eye and kneeing him to the groin, which earned him a moan of pain.
“I would rather drown and be eaten by a shark than being your whore.” She spitted defiantly.
The man backed up, not expecting that move and grunted “You mangy little bitch!” He cried.
She smirked “I am. And that should scare you. I am not to be trifled with… Captain.” She spitted that last word.
“Kendrick! Take them down before I slit their throats meself.”
They were both taken down by a young boy, no more than 14, and he quickly closed the cells. Primrose didn’t miss a beat and grabbed gently his hand “Wait! What is your name, sailor?”
“Uh, name’s Kendrick, madam. My lady?”
“It is nice to meet you, Kendrick. I have a proposition for you.”
“I shouldn’t—,”
“Hear me out, Kendrick. I am the Lady of Winbourne, and my friend here is the next Duchess of Coventry. Do you know how handsomely our fathers would pay you if you gave us to the British authorities?”
Georgia quickly picked up the situation “Beyond your wildest imaginings. All you have to do is to hand us over to the navy and we’ll do the rest.”
“You could see your mother, marry well, live comfortably for the rest of your life.”
“Think about it, Kendrick. We are women of our word.” Georgia assured.
He seemed to be at loss of words, and bowed to them before running up, back to the crew. Georgia sighed.
“Do not despair, my friend. He’ll see reason.”
She sighed, leaning against the cold, dirty wall “I hope so. This place smells like death and piss.”
Some hours later
Primrose was to fall asleep when she heard some footsteps and rose up in hopes to see Kendrick, but instead saw the tool of the captain. He smirked ruefully “Hoped to see your potential rescuer, Lady Gray?” She opened her mouth, ready to retaliate, but he hushed “Hush. He told me from the moment he left these cells. You see, he is loyal to me. Everyone here is. It was a nice try, though. Very clever, trying to trick a small, clueless boy into giving you to the very authorities who raped and killed his mother and sister.” Primrose knew it was helpless, and simply stared at him, an icy glare that could kill him if she wanted “Have you gone mute, girl? Very well then. I request your presence for dinner tonight. I’ll have Keaton give you something nice his wife used to own… before she was killed by the navy as well.”
He bowed mockingly and left the cells, and Georgia whined “That’s it,” she said “I am going to die an old maid in a dirty pirate ship with the ugliest and rudest idiots ever.”
“Not if I have a saying about it.”
She looked at her friend “What are you plotting this time, Prim?”
“Just lower your voice, follow my lead and bide your time,” she looked at her “no matter what, do what you must to survive. Even if it means leaving me behind.”
“I—,”
“Give me your word, Georgia.”
She nodded “You have it.”
Minutes later, they heard footsteps and Prim began her scheme “I have something to confess.” She said to Georgia. She looked at her and observed her every move intently “I am no longer a maid,” she noticed how the sailor stopped on his tracks rather sloppily to eavesdrop, just like she had planned “before the wedding, I was with someone.”
Georgia gasped “Who? Do I know him?”
“You do. He was the Master of Horse of my estate. I did not wish to have my first time with my betrothed, so I paid him handsomely to lay with me.”
Before Georgia could utter a word, the sailor came in, chaining Primrose and beckoned Georgia to say goodbye to her friend, for there was a ‘change of plans’ with her. The two hugged and Primrose whispered “I wasn’t with the Master of Horse. It was Laurie.” Then, the man took Primrose upstairs.
Georgia was at first confused, and mulled over who ‘Laurie’ was until she realised, she meant Laurent Yaxley.
“Oh… my god.” She chuckled before laughing, slowly clapping her friend’s intelligence and cunning. If they ever found each other, she’d definitely ask for details.
Primrose was dressed with a blue brocade dress and given gloves, fully knowing her captors were watching and leering over her. What she was doing was against what she was taught, but the girl she was before being abducted in that chapel was gone. She was now a woman with no fiancé to protect her, her father far away from her and no clear future. If she had to use her feminine wiles and womanhood to survive, she would. She entered with poise the room where the captain dressed in his best clothes and beckoned her to sit.
“Ah, Lady Primrose. You humble me by dressing up for the event and accepting my invitation.”
“How could I not, Captain, with so little saying in the matter?”
He guffawed “Ah, ye’re a witty one. And feisty. Just how I like my women.”
She bit her tongue, flashing a fake smile “You… humble me, Captain.”
He signalled the chicken and wine in the table “Please. I put out my best stock just for you.”
She kept that smile “I thank you, my Captain.”
They ate for some minutes in uncomfortable silence until the captain looked at her “You know, there is talk about you, madam.”
She sipped her wine as she looked at him and batted her eyelashes innocently “I do not know what they could possibly gossip about, Captain.”
He leaned closer and Prim’s free hand discreetly grabbed her weapon “That despite your high birth, you are no longer a maid.”
“And do you believe such foul rumours?”
He crossed the distance and stroked her cheek “Should I, my lady?” He smirked.
She maintained her composure “Do you wish to believe it, my captain?”
Instead of responding, he grabbed her and placed her on the desk and was leaning towards her when she grabbed his neck and switched positions “I knew that you were a whore.” He smirked.
She grabbed his hand, pinned it down and stabbed it with a hairpin, making him scream in pain “I am. And this whore is commanding you to take us to the nearest shore and leave us be.”
He scoffed “Or what?”
She grabbed a knife and placed it on his neck menacingly “I will kill you and your entire crew and burn your ship to the ground after reaching land.”
He suddenly paled “Y-You’re bluffing.”
She smirked “Am I, though?” She sliced his eye, making scream further.
The sailors came into the room after hearing his captain’s screams and she placed the knife on his neck “One more step and I will kill him!” They stopped short, looking at each other, waiting for captain’s orders “What will it be, captain?”
He seethed “Take the hostages ashore. After that, they won’t be our problem and we won’t be theirs.”
They nodded and were about to leave before Prim added “If you wish your captain to marry and reproduce himself, you will also surrender your weapons.”
“But—,” One complained.
“Just do what she says, for fuck’s sake!”
They nodded before leaving. Primrose took the opportunity and grabbed his pistol and sword “I’m keeping these and your cabin, and if you try anything, I will cut your balls and hands.”
Before he could say anything, she left, leaving the man alone. She then saw the view of Georgia and her ladies being released and the men surrendering their weapons. Nadia threatened whomever could be hiding a weapon and Georgia got her knife back.
By nightfall, they had reached land, and the ladies got out of the ship with a bag full of their jewellery and other valuable things they owned and had gotten back from their captors. After selling their dresses and switch it for other more comfortable clothes and earning money for their trinkets and court secrets, they all reunited at the beach. Many professed their desire to discover who they were on their own, and Primrose bid goodbye to her friends, one of them being Georgia. Nadia and Prim were one of the few left and sighed as they looked at the sea “Whatever will we do now?” She asked.
“Honestly… I don’t really wish to go home yet. I want to see the world and what’s out there. I am not ready for polite society just yet.”
Nadia smiled and kissed her cheek “To be honest, neither do I. I want to see the world, and what’s more: I want to see it with you.”
Both women smiled at each other before getting up and going to the tavern, where upstairs there were some rooms they had rented. Tomorrow, they’d decide what to do on breakfast.

HPHL Pirate AU- Setting off
I finally wrote something! Yay!
This au was created by the wonderful @camillejeaneshphm !!
“This one’ll do,” Atticus said, pointing at a dark oak wood Brigantine on the far end of the dock. “It’s not the biggest, but it makes up for it in terms of speed.”
“Just like us, right?” Fred suggested, looking up at what was to be their vessel on the high seas. Atticus looked at him, with the expression of someone very much used to Fred.
“Quite. Well, what are we waiting for? Quick, up we go! You first, you’ve got most of the stuff.” “Aye aye, captain!” Fred exclaimed, heaving up the bags, which contained food, maps, as well as some black and gold paint, scaling the ladder next to the slightly worn writing on the ship, which revealed its name as The Shadow. Atticus followed after him.
“Hmm, I really am a captain now, aren’t I…” he mused as he climbed past the “w” of Shadow. He’d been preparing for this for a while now, finding the hat and coat he’d need, a decent cutlass for him and Fred, making sure to pick a day when the rest of his family were on the other side of the port town, celebrating something or other while his sister covered for him.
Atticus clambered over the fencing of the ship, seeing Fred twiddling his thumbs waiting for him. “What’s the matter?” he asked, adjusting his tricorn hat.
Fred pointed to the other side of the deck. “Someone’s over there.”
Atticus spun on the spot and saw a guard armed with a bayonet staring at the ships further down the port, specifically his older brother’s one, a full-rigged ship named The Obsidian. Atticus definitely would have been noticed if he had tried stealing that one.
“What do we do, captain?” Fred whispered. Atticus smiled, a hand on his cutlass. “Leave it to me.”
He walked over to the man, who he recognised as one of the many guards hired by his family to secure their ships. Usually each ship would have at least two guards, but since The Shadow wasn’t well-known, and almost invisible next to the larger ships, Atticus and Fred were most likely the only two people to ever consider it theft-worthy.
“Greetings, soldier,” Atticus began, “Any…trouble?”
“Ah! M-Master Doherty!” cried the man, standing to attention, “None, sir. None at all.”
“Good, good…” Atticus trailed off, before pretending to notice something. “I say, what’s wrong with the fencing over there?”
The man sported a confused look as he lumbered over to where Atticus had pointed, trying to move the fencing with his large hands. “Nothing seems wrong, Master Doherty…”
At that point, Fred, who’d been hidden behind one of the two masts, kicked a barrel that was stored near the trapdoor to the hull, sending it rolling. The poor man didn’t have the time to react as the barrel struck him, sending him flailing over the edge; he held on all he could but dropped down onto the wooden port with a muffled snap. The planks under him creaked, and for a moment Atticus wondered if they would break apart completely. Thankfully, it appeared it was made of stronger stuff than Atticus had anticipated. “Are you alright?” Atticus called out. “Uhh…” began the guard. “Why don’t you head over to the infirmary? Just in case?” He suggested, leaning over the side of the fencing.
The two watched the man hobble his way into town, grumbling to himself as he did so. “I thought you were going to throw him off.” Fred admitted. “I could have, but this makes it seem like more of an accident.” Atticus pointed out. “Right, time to set sail!”
Atticus practically sprinted to the very top of the ship, right up to the wheel. It was a beautiful summer’s day, seagulls were flying overhead, and Captain Atticus Doherty was about to begin a long and eventful career of piracy. “Now, Fred!” he yelled. With a heave, the young redhead began to pull at the anchor, the two both feeling the ship start to rock slightly more in the water. Seasickness be damned, Atticus thought, I’m doing this. “Raise the sails!”
Fred pulled on some ropes, and the sails caught the wind, the ship pushing forward out of the port.
“Atsy!!” Atticus heard someone yell. He turned around, and saw his younger sister, Josephine Doherty, waving from the port town. “Go be an amazing pirate, Atsy! Go steal everyone’s treasure and sink all their ships!” “Will do!” Atticus yelled back, “Write if you need rescuing!” It sort of took away from it originally being a stealth mission, but Atticus didn’t care. He turned around as the port town began to disappear, and the ship headed into open water. There was only one more thing to do. Fred dropped the anchor again and Atticus climbed down the ladder. He knew they’d come for him. It wasn’t about the ship however, more about the principle of the thing. They didn’t care what he did unless it was with them watching and knowing about it. He was going to get out from their shadow for good. Using the paint, he covered the words of The Shadow in darkness, and with delicate brush strokes, rechristened it as The Eclipse.

Oooh, some Aderva & William pirate au headcanons for FFWF?
— So, somehow Minerva either accidentally finds herself on Adonis’s ship or she’s kidnapped. Either way, she’s not there on purpose.
— This is very much inspired by a romance novel that I’ve read, but Adonis is undercover as a pirate to stop a war or something from happening. He’s not happy that Minerva’s there and jeopardizing his mission.
— Like in every universe, Minerva and Adonis don’t get on at first. They argue, bicker, and just generally don’t get on. But… along the way, their something turns romantic. Neither is quite sure how it starts, but one minute they’re arguing and the next they’re kissing.
— Eventually, Adonis gets Minerva home safely and then, they meet in proper circumstances. They still antagonize one another a little, but it still ends in an engagement.
— After Prim’s abduction, William flees. It’s not that he doesn’t care about her, but he’s just done. He can’t handle it anymore and so, he fled.
— Perhaps he ends up in an art school, despite his fears and stresses. But, he tries to make something of himself that doesn’t rely on other people’s charity.
— Sure, he keeps an ear out for any news of his ex-betrothed, but he cannot bring himself to fully regret how things turned out. He was never quite sure what value the Grays saw in him marrying their daughter.

Lewis is the only person on his ship that isn't seen when people try to board it, so most of the time they aren't even sure if the ship has a captain
Orla is now literally a 💫maneater💫 due to being a siren
The ship of Lewis is called Engel, which is Dutch for angel
The way it works for the ship and recruiting newly passed people is actually quite simple. The only rule is that the person's body must have been dumped into the ocean, so the Engel can come claim the spirit
Lewis is and always will be an anxious disaster when it comes to people he finds 💫pretty💫
I'd definitely like to think that the sirens work the same way that the mermaids do in POTC, beautiful above water, dangerous and more monstrous underwater

“Look, Commodore -- you may chase me around the world trying to hang me, and I may blow up your ships now and again, but I truly don’t hold any ill will. If this girl means something to you, shoot your shot -- it’d be her loss, if she turned up her nose.”
“...Are you seriously trying to give me romantic advice, Varney?”
“What can I say, I’m rooting for you. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got an appointment to keep, and it’s not with the gallows.”
“Correct. It’s with me, right here, right now. Now unsheathe your sword.”
“...Waiting for me to prepare myself before you attack. You’re as honorable as ever, Grim, old boy.”
“The King’s Men must differentiate ourselves from the pirates we hunt somehow, Bat. Besides simply bathing regularly and not drinking ourselves to a stupor, of course.”
x~x~x~x
Just...I blame that one Pirate Ask about Batticus, okay?? 😂
In a Pirates AU, Bat would be the (Captain!) Jack Sparrow to Grim’s Commodore Norrington, period, end of story. Though I’m sorry, Grim wouldn’t be killed off unceremoniously the way poor James Norrington did. (No, I will never not be bitter about that. 😒) Instead these two would have a constant cat-and-mouse style storyline, with British Commodore Atticus Grimsley @cursebreakerfarrier chasing “Captain Bat Varney” across the seven seas, only for them to end up having to team up now and again to face off against more dangerous enemies like Davy Jones and the Spanish Navy. And despite themselves, Atticus wouldn’t be able to completely resist the charms of the roguish, intelligent pirate captain, and Robert Harker (alias: Bat Varney) wouldn’t be able to completely resist matching wits with such a loyal, brave, and brilliant young officer. So these two would banter like hell every time they face off in battle against each other, as well as any time they had to battle side by side. In this situation, Bat’s caught wind that Commodore Grimsley is sweet on this maid (*cough* Flora *cough* 😉) from Port Royal, Jamaica -- and hey, Bat’s fond enough of old Grim in his own weird way that he’s nothing if not supportive. It’d be a shame if someone besides Grim was hunting him down, but Grim’s a good bloke -- he deserves a happy ending. Bat may be a pirate, and pirates don’t know much of anything about happy endings, but he knows this much.
Wub you, Sky honey! Hope this makes you smile! xoxo 🏴☠️💙
#my art#pirates au#bartholomew varney#atticus grimsley#au#art#hphl#hogwarts legacy#yay we get long-haired!bat AND wigged!atticus so...ponytails!!#I reckon atticus would have long enough hair to have it in a ponytail even without the wig on too just like norrington does#because hey this is the 17th century we're talking#all men had long hair#bat like jack also kind of says 'f*** it' to gender roles and wears a woman's earring plenty of rings and a scrap of lace around his hand#the last of which is a bandage but hey it was what he had available at the time#and yeah also plenty of scars because bad luck dogs bat's heals and it's only because of his brains that he survives a lot of the time

Hey there Joe! @amerrymystery thanks for sending in an ask! Since I'm hooked (no pun intended) to @camillejeaneshphm's Pirate AU for HPHL, I'll be expanding on Danny's story in it a bit!
For some context, he is an ex-Royal Navy privateer who grew disillusioned with both the service and fighting in battles between nations as a private contractor for England. The government put a price on his head after he handed in his letters of marque and fled the office. He had a feeling that resigning would not end well. The people in charge would not have wanted snot-nosed jackanapes running lose badmouthing the Crown. Such as those who called for the colonies' independence or discouraged new recruits in the military.
Until he could find someone that could take him in, Danny had to fend for himself. He survived in the woods, stealing food from gardens and farms, and drinking from other's wells. His inhibitions to theft did not matter much now since he was wanted dead anyway. It was either kill or be killed. Bounty hunters were sent after him and Danny was confronted numerous times over his flight. He managed to overcome the assassins by using the woods to his advantage. While he wasn't an expert at traps, he used the trees for stealth and managed to catch the first hunting party off guard. Ambushing them with a stolen dagger, Danny incapacitated them, stripped them of their weapons and commandeered a horse. This was what his life was like for those few months. It is likely the government had people tracking Danny, this would also reinforce the necessity to stay away from civilization.
In what would be the final month of running, he crossed paths with another hunting party determined to collect the bounty. Upon spotting Danny's camp, they split and approach it from either direction hoping to surprise him. These men knew to sneak around slowly like him, avoiding stepping on leaves and branches. But as flawless some people think they are, there is a constant margin for error some refuse to accept. Danny is sleeping and he wakes up when he hears a twig snap. It could mean only one thing. The assassins are close. He grabs his musket and storms out of his tent. He aims the gun at the two sword-wielders and taunts them on thinking they could get the drop on a seasoned lad. They drop their blades and flee. At the same time, a gunshot carves out a small chunk of a tree trunk right next to Danny. He turns back and sees another man armed with a gun trying reload behind another tree. Aiming his own gun and firing at the assassin's feet, Danny drops him to the ground, his blunderbuss laying beside him. He drops the musket and runs to the downed gunman. Seizing the blunderbuss off the forest floor, he aims it at it's owner, pressing him for information. From the assassin, Danny learns that there is a price on his head and that he is near coastal town with a port. With all that he needs to know, he packs up his things, and torches his camp before fleeing on horseback, headed towards the port town where he'd end up being taken in by a crew of pirates, most of who are fugitives like himself.

wrote something for the pirate au!
thanks to @beloved-bucky for letting me borrow adam <3
tw for some blood
boots clicked, threateningly, over the wooden deck of the ship.
georgia paid them no mind. she leafed through her book of poetry, ankles crossed. her other hand, though, drifted to the knife sheathed at her thigh.
when she deemed the footsteps close enough, she loosed the weapon, but still didn’t move.
still the man’s footsteps approached, and finally georgia chose to act.
her leather boots clicked once, twice, before she launched herself at him, pinning the man to the wall with a knife through the back of his shirt.
her face inches from his, she took a moment to observe him. shaggy black hair and sculpted features, with chocolate brown eyes staring back at her, filled with shock.
she brushed a golden curl back from her face, then unsheathed another knife and held it to the unfairly handsome man’s throat.
“well, now” georgia purred. “what have we here, hm?”
the man just breathed, staring back at georgia. subconsciously, her shoulders slumped a bit to cover her chest a touch more. her chin was still held high, the light catching her round face and illuminating the small spray of freckles.
she leaned in closer, lips practically to the dark-haired man’s ear. “well, then? are you here to take me away?”
he swallowed hard, blood beading around the edge of georgia’s blade. “i’ve been ordered to catch the fearsome pirates aboard this ship-“
she cut him off with a harsh laugh, though the deep velvet of his voice rang through her mind. “betcha weren’t expecting a woman, then, yeah?”
still, her knife moved away from his throat. just a bit.
he swallowed again, back still to the wall. the blood from the scratch against his throat dripped onto his white shirt, muscles rippling under it.
she scoffed. “not answering me, huh? pathetic.” the signet ring still on her middle finger glinted, catching the attention of the man.
his breath caught. “lady…lady georgia? the missing coventry daughter?”
georgia rolled her eyes. “tell the whole world, why don’t you?” she removed her knife fully from the man’s throat, though, and sheathed it, though he was still pinned.
confusion filled those deep-brown eyes as he brought a hand to his neck to wipe the blood from the wound. “your parents have said that you’re dead-“
“oh, of course they have!” she threw her hands into the air. “what other lies have they told to avoid the embarrassment of an independant daughter?”
the man bit his lip. “i don’t know completely…it’s not like i run in those circles. speaking of, though, is lady gray alright-“
georgia responded by stalking away to pick up her fallen book of poetry. she turned, though, and sighed.
“since you already know my name…i suppose i should know yours.” a hint of a smile crossed her face as she pulled her hair into a braid.
his eyes crinkled slightly as he smiled. “adam. adam ellis.”
she extended a hand, which he took and shook. “pleasure.”
