and off she ran, as far and fast as her feet carried her, to seek him.

The lips, softly quivering in a way only the most attentive could notice.

There had never been a moment where you felt more captive, and that was considering your unfaithful occupation and the lifestyle you had been thrown into. It was like coming face to face with the barrel, now knowing your fate at the other side of it. Your chest heaved up and down with the anticipation, of a scary nature this time, the outfit that was more of a necessity than choice not aiding your trembles.

It was the eyes.

It had always been the eyes. They were slowly lulling you into consciousness from your state of despair, of helplessness.

Pulling you back to reality, from the darkness surrounding your mind. It was as if your feet had carried you on the street that night, making their way to the Sheriff’s office. As if your being wanted you to step out, not being able to take it anymore. The steps became heavier with each approaching one towards the stairs of the apartments, heart dropping in anxiety with the knock of delicate hand against the worn doorframe.

Why were you here?

You had never been this close, standing right there at the entrance to his office, able to stare into the very depths of the brown amber hues - yet, you had heard the rumors whispered around the corners of brick and stone streets, often trailed with fearful exclamations.

They were everything they roamed about, and then some.

Better make a run for it when they shine bright and yellow, like an evil sun, they had said.

Not that you would make it alive.

Something deep inside of you kept telling you that it was worth a try.

If only you could talk without restriction.

If only the words would stutter out of your parted lips, ready and willing, yet the voice never came from within.

Another part of you nudged you that you should have never come to him.

Your being shook with a hand on your shoulder, a gentle reminder that everything was real, it was happening, and that he, of all people, was there.

It had taken you quite some time to learn to live with it - you did not know if you ever would. Hours and hours of contemplating, not being able to talk to anyone, helplessly reduced to echo your voice through the vast corners of your mind - the burden of knowledge, the inability to run to aid bringing your shoulders down inch by inch.

It did not matter - the horror you saw unfold in front of your eyes, the fragments of agony etched onto your soul, felt as if they were long lost in the void if your voice was silent. Lost in the void, unearthed, for all to forget.

The mouth could not utter what the eyes had witnessed, just like the spell bounding you to captivity intended to. Nothing got out if they did not want it to get out, if they had nothing to gain from it.

In fact, they had everything to lose this time around.

The sheriff’s gruff voice saying your name yet once more woke you up from your momentary aloofness, blinking twice in an attempt to catch his eyes again. You saw growing concern in them - curiosity, desire to help, to understand. To do good for once. The cigarette smoke continued a gentle path, the ashes lingering on the edge, threatening to fall off.

The smile that would normally be present to excuse yourself was nowhere to be seen, instead you opted in to hold onto the dusty old chair to help you catch your composure.

Bigby, realizing he should have invited you in way sooner, mumbled a small sorry, letting you in as he closed the door shut, making his way over to sit at his desk. The papers and folders rustled as he settled in quickly, his chair creaking as the ashes from his cigarette falling in a lazy snow upon the gentle tap of his finger to meet the others on the scratched wooden surface.

He remembered seeing you before, as a good sheriff who cared would - roaming around the streets, especially on the back alley corners, every so often trailing with a man in your arms. He had heard the clicks of your heels, the ever-so-pleasant whiff of your perfume even when he was across the street. Sometimes smoking a cigarette, a much-needed gasp for air, leaning against the very walls of the club you so desperately wanted to break free from.

Didn’t need to be a sheriff to remember her, he thought to himself.

He knew something was very, very wrong for you to be dragging yourself in his office this late at night, potentially when you were supposed to be working. He knew Georgie took no prisoners.

The Sheriff could only hope that he did not have to bash another Fable’s cheek in that night.

Or, would that be the least of his worries, rather?

A final drag later and he was pressing it on the ashtray, fingers scrambling to get another one as your frail yet kind voice filled the gap. The lingering hints of your anxiety attack were not ignored by his attentive eyes, however - your one hand clutching the armrest so tight your knuckles turned white, the long manicure pressing into your exposed thighs with the other.

The slight shake of your ankle in the platform heels.

The wetness of your eyes, threatening to escape the confinements of your eyeliner.

The gulps making the purple ribbon around your neck even tighter each time.

“Sheriff, I know I’m the last person you expected to see tonight.”

He waved that off with a soft grunt, instead opting to offer you a cigarette from the pack. Meeting his eyes, you muttered a thanks and your fingers grabbed one.

Your lips met the filter, and you let him light the death stick for you, as you inhaled - the faint orange glimmers turning into gray as smoke trailed, exhaling as he lit another one for himself.

The fluorescent light twinkled and buzzed in an unpleasant hum.

“Now, how about you tell me why you’re in my office at 4 in the morning?”

You knew exactly what you were there for.

What you knew, what you saw, but could not tell.

The blood you saw and the screams you heard, that would haunt you in your dreams to come.

“Sheriff, I, we, did - ” you started, and only then you were able to get a proper look of him that night. Disheveled, you dared say even more than you - or was it his usual attire, after a rough night teaching Fables around town a lesson? His long wavy brown hair untidy, yet kept in his own way. His dark tie loosened around his neck, couple buttons unbuttoned on his wrinkled shirt. His hands with traces of blood on his knuckles, clutching onto the cigarette as if a lot depended on it, yet his gaze was not wavering from yours. Waiting, patiently, like a wolf hunting for his prey - you knew that the patience could run out anytime now.

But they did not come out.

The words, the words you so desperately wanted to say would not escape your lips, no matter how much you tried. They kept the words sealed shut, locked down, and your mouth closed.

Moment like these, you would realize just how much control they had over you.

You looked at him in an apologetic way, your empty hand subconsciously finding your neck to touch the satin fabric ever so lightly, a made up habit of your own.

“I saw something. Something, something -” you stuttered, bringing the cigarette to your mouth with trembling fingers, taking a soft drag and out with a puff.

“What did you see?”

Bigby leaned forward, his regard doing turns between the ribbon around your neck and your pleading eyes, eager to understand more, eyebrows furrowing in anticipation of what you had to say.

A small tear trailing down your cheek did not give him any consolation.

“These lips are sealed.”

Oh, how much it shook you to your core every time you were forced to utter these words. Reduced to nothing but a vessel, your eyes losing the glimmer of hope with every passing gaze focused in his. The words lingered in the air, your delicate yet afraid voice mixing in with the smoke. Bigby did a double blink, confused, his head tilting to the right as his eyebrows furrowed, leaning back ever so slightly to catch his composure.

His mouth was parted as he looked at you in slight disbelief, trying to tie the pieces in his head, yet not succeeding.

Where did he hear that before?

It was now his mind playing tricks on him, thoughts running rampant, head whipping up as his door was knocked frantically yet another time that night. He ran a hand down his face, tossing you a look of “stay there” as he got up, but did not have to walk all the big two steps over since a frantic and scared Snow White’s worried expression peeked through the now parted door.

A newfound fear within he dared not name began awakening in him.

“Bigby, you need to see this.”

I'm really behind right now because I get really sucked into writing (and life, been very busy with my social calendar at the moment) but eventually I'll go through and catch up. Writing like this is for community, ya know? Engagement? Making friends, being crazy together, it's the vibe. (Plus every time a comment notification dings, an idea angel gets its wings lmao it's my fave part- talking to people)

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Unhappy ending? Don't know her. I guess you can make my wish come true just cuz it ends with them deciding to kidnap the president and cyclone being like oh my god

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? it's 2am and i'm cursing your name is pretty stupid sweet but also wanna be your left hand man/iwtby left off prettyyyyyyy sweet

One based off the Mummy, one that's a mummy/national treasure crossover LMAO, one off Jurassic Park, one off Twister, one off Beauty & the Beast kinda, one off princess & the frog, one kinda princess diaries 2/how to lose a guy BUT I actually have an insane idea I came up with recently that would be a uhhhhhhh crossover I guess........I'm giggling as I think about it

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? nope! but I love to riff with other writers. i'm way too particular about my own work to co-write probably tbh

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? if I post I am going to make myself finish but I have some I've never posted that I doubt I'll finish (one's a rivals fake dating destination wedding)

16. What are your writing strengths? I'd say melancholic fluffy humor and banter, others have told me world building and being lowkey emotional

17. What are your writing weaknesses? being concise and angst actually- I struggle with that sometimes

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Amazing when people can do it, but I tend to avoid writing it since I'm not fluent.

You have to be an equal opportunity employer in terms of who you're bringing over from the other side. Electricity attracts devils and demons. Other instruments attract other spirits. An acoustic guitar attracts Casper. A mandolin attracts Wendy. But an electric guitar attracts Beelzebub. 5. If you're guilty of thinking, you're out If your brain is part of the process, you're missing it. You should play like a drowning man, struggling to reach shore. He just stands there like the Statue of Liberty-making you want to look up her dress the whole time to see how he's doing it. 8. Don't wipe the sweat off your instrument You need that stink on there. Then you have to get that stink onto your music. 9. Keep your guitar in a dark place When you're not playing your guitar, cover it and keep it in a dark place. If you don't play your guitar for more than a day, be sure you put a saucer of water in with it. 10. You gotta have a hood for your engine Keep that hat on. A hat is a pressure cooker. Album Reviews: Jimi Hendrix Experience "Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967" / Scream "DC Special"

Jimi Hendrix Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967

Another year, another Jimi Hendrix Experience release just before the holiday season! Since beginning this blog, I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing loads of Hendrix albums including the posthumous album Both Sides of the Sky, the 50th anniversary Deluxe Edition of Electric Ladyland, the 50th anniversary re-release of his live album Band of Gypsys, his live box set Songs for Groovy Children: The Fillmore East Concerts, the live album and movie Live in Maui, 2021’s Record Store Day release Paris ‘67, and last year's Los Angeles Forum: April 26, 1969. This week Legacy is releasing a never-before-released (or bootlegged) live album of the Jimi Hendrix Experience's concert at Hollywood Bowl just before they became famous with Hollywood Bowl: August 18, 1967.

At this concert, the Experience were opening for The Mamas and the Papas. Attendees were mainly there to see the headliners. Jimi Hendrix Experience's debut album Are You Experienced would be released in the U.S. five days later on August 23, 1967 (it had been released in the U.K. on May 5, 1967). By this point, the band had played a legendary show at the Monterey Pop Festival and opened for The Monkees. This is literally the moment just before they got famous. The trio were bigger than the sum of their parts: Hendrix on guitar, Noel Redding on bass, and Mitch Mitchell on drums. There were quite a few songs from Are You Experienced, but there are also loads of covers including favorites by The Beatles (“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”), Howlin’ Wolf (“Killing Floor”), Bob Dylan (“Like a Rolling Stone”), The Troggs (“Wild Thing”) and Muddy Waters (“Catfish Blues”). A live album would pretty much be enough to please a lot of fans, but this one is cool because it's not some overly-bootlegged concert so there's a sense of discovery, but also the covers make this feel like you're getting something new and different. There's nothing like hearing a band the very second they became famous and here it is!

Scream DC Special

Bursting out the DC hardcore punk scene in the 80s was the legendary Scream. The Reagan administration gave the Washington DC punk community quite a bit to rant about in the 80s and Scream were among the biggest of that whole scene, along with Fugazi, Bad Brains and Henry Rollins (the list, of course, goes on). In my friend Scott Crawford's 2014 documentary Salad Days about the DC punk scene in the 80s, he interviewed multiple members of Scream. Singer Pete Stahl and his brother / guitarist Franz Stahl, bassist Skeeter Thompson were a tight knit unit with original drummer Kent Stax. After Stax left the band in 1986, his replacement was teenage drummer Dave Grohl, who truly brought it. I was a big fan of the band's albums No More Censorship and Fumble and I have them in my record collection. After the band broke up (as we all know), Grohl joined Nirvana and brought that punk energy he honed in Scream to the masses. The Fumble album had been recorded in 1989 but was finally released in 1993. There were a few reunions here and there and Grohl has continued to work with the members of Scream (i.e. Franz was in Foo Fighters from 1997-1999). In 2009, the original lineup of Scream reunited and they even recorded with Stax on drums at Grohl's Studio 606 for an EP. But we haven't actually had a studio album from Scream since Fumble, which was 30 years ago. This week, Dischord Records is releasing DC Special featuring the original lineup. In September Stax died at age 61, making this his final album with Scream.

With the Fumble album it felt like the band was really evolving. The punk sound was there, but there was also a post-punk sound coming through. With all of their collective outside projects, i.e. Franz in Foo Fighters and DYS, Pete and Franz in Wool, Pete in Goatsnake and Earthlings?, Skeeter's solo work, etc - this band is way more than just an 80s punk band. This album incorporates a lot more styles and even some melodic tendencies. It's a nice full circle moment that this album got recorded with Stax before he died and that Grohl made a guest appearance. There's loads of other DC punk veterans appearing here including Dischord Records founder and Fugazi / Minor Threat singer Ian MacKaye. This is album is a treat for fans and enough to make you want to, well, scream!

Description: When Y/N gets an unreal deal on her first home, she wonders why her neighbor scared away all the other buyers. Despite being cautious, she doesn’t fully understand what gave Bucky Barnes such a bad name.

After that morning, things got complicated. Everything seemed to change, yet somehow it still felt the same too.

Bucky still hadn’t made any move on Y/N. But he seemed so set on assuring she knew the truth about him. Even though he told her the story of just one arrest, an arrest where he offered himself as scapegoat to save Steve, Bucky had yet to disclose any other part of his past. In fact, he still hadn’t told Y/N how he’d gone from war veteran to the leader of The Howling Commandos.

It suddenly occurred to Y/N that maybe Bucky was trying to keep his distance from her too. But she couldn’t figure out his reasoning. She knew her own. But Y/N had yet to figure out what about her would make him try to stay away.

Y/N was brought out of her thoughts by her cellphone ringing.

She practically groaned when her mother’s name appeared on the screen.

“Hello?”

“Oh hi dear. So don’t get mad at me…” Y/N’s mother began, which was never a good sign.

“Mom, what did you do?” Y/N groaned.

“I was at the farmer’s market this morning. I ran into an old coworker of mine. She was with her son, Jared. Oh my goodness, Y/N. This man was just so handsome. Anyways, we started talking and he lives not too far from you. Can you believe it?”

Y/N knew where this was going already. “Mom, I’m not going on a date with him.” Her voice dark and warning.

“I know you asked me and your sister to stop setting you up…But Y/N I just think you two would really hit it off.”

“Mom! You say that every time!” Y/N yelled out.

“Y/N-” Her mom began but she was already cutting her off.

“No! I’ve had enough! Mom, did it ever occur to you that the reason I don’t have a boyfriend is because I don’t want one? If I wanted to go on a date, all it takes is a few swipes these days. Do you understand that? I’m not this pity party you need to go out and scavenge dates for.”

“Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N what has got into you?” Her mom scolded.

“Nothing has changed, mom. You just never listen to me.” Y/N sighed.

“Just this one last date, sweetheart. Then I’ll stop. I promise.” Her mom laid on the sweetness to soften the blow.

“You already gave him a time and my address, didn’t you?” Y/N stated in realization.

There was a beat of silence.

“Tonight. 8 o’clock.” Then she continued to name all of the great things about him. But it didn’t matter. Y/N wasn’t listening anymore. She hung up on her mom and grabbed a pillow from her couch to scream into.

Y/N contemplated all of the things she could say when the man got there. Maybe she could fake a good sickness and apologize profusely. It wasn’t a coincidence that Y/N’s mother and sister never gave her these men’s numbers. They knew she would just call and cancel if they did that.

After Y/N went through almost every option in her head, she knew there was no getting out of this date without feeling like a total asshole. So she fell into the dreaded routine of getting ready for a date she never wanted to go on.

Later that night, her doorbell was a patient knock on her front door.

“Hi. Wow…Sorry. Ugh…I wasn’t expecting you to be so beautiful.” Jared stuttered awkwardly in such a dorky way that his words came out genuine.

Y/N couldn’t help but blush at the compliment. She was human after all! And no man had ever stuttered over their words because of her looks alone.

The slightly awkward introductions ensued. But the flattery soon ended as he guided her down the porch and to the car.

Bucky just had to be pulling into his driveway right as she was leaving.

Fate was playing a cruel trick on her. Y/N knew it. Her eyes locked on him. What she didn’t realize was that she was giving Bucky the most pleading look possible. Her eyes were sad with a desperation; a desperation for him to be taking her out instead of this random man.

Her entire body language could not make it more clear that she wanted to run back inside her house.

Bucky had turned off his motorcycle and watched the interaction subtly. If he had noticed Y/N’s desperate expression, he didn’t show it. In fact, he was too busy eyeing Jared as he opened the car door with Y/N.

When they finally drove past, Bucky was casually walking to his mailbox at the end of his driveway. Y/N lowered her head in shame, too scared of seeing how he was watching this awkward and forced interaction.

This date was different.

As the night went on, Y/N got a sick feeling.

She realized her mother had been right: Jared was a cute, smart, kind, gentleman.

But it was too late.

Had the two of them been introduced a few months, maybe Y/N would’ve actually gone on a second date. But this was life after meeting Bucky Barnes.

It was this particular date with Jared that Y/N finally realized, or rather admitted to herself, that she’d officially fallen for Bucky. She thought it was some silly schoolgirl crush. But she knew now it was more than that.

Poor Jared was trying so hard to charm her and it was a rare date where Y/N wasn’t completely annoyed by it. She’d never felt guilty for these men until now.

The rest of the date was painless, yet Y/N’s terrible feeling in her gut got worse and worse as they got closer to her house.

As soon as they were in her driveway, she took in a deep breath. “Jared,” She started sweetly. He smirked at the way his name sounded coming from her. “I had a really lovely time tonight. But I just have to say something.”

His grin disappeared for a moment. Then he seemed to immediately realize where the conversation was going. He chuckled lightly and nodded his head. “I’m not getting another date here, am I?” He didn’t sound upset or angry with her, just disappointed. Which somehow made her feel even worse.

“It’s just…there’s actually someone else. My mother is oblivious and didn’t even know about him when she set this up. Because I didn’t really know about it…if that makes sense. I want to be honest with you, because you seem so great!” Y/N’s tone was desperate.

“Y/N…” Jared said gently as he grabbed her hand. “I get it. You don’t have to explain.”

Her jaw slackened slightly. “Really?”

Jared nodded with a sad smile. “Really. Whoever he is…I hope he realizes how lucky he is.” Then he took in a deep breath. “And if things don’t work out, I would really love it if you gave me another shot.”

Y/N smiled at his maturity and kindness, then found herself nodding at his offer. But this was her cue to leave the car now. She slowly made her way to the house in awe of how well that conversation ended.

But as soon as she heard Jared’s car pull away, she felt a spark of bravery.

Without changing out of her date clothes or putting her heels back on, Y/N stomped down her driveway and across the street barefoot.

Before she could lose the adrenaline, her hand knocked on Bucky’s front door.

She heard his heavy footsteps before he opened the door.

He swung open the door and had a look of surprise.

But before he could say anything, Y/N flung forward and captured his lips in the most passionate kiss she’d ever had.

His surprise instantly disappeared and he was kissing her back. In was only a matter of seconds before his hands gripped her waist and pulled her body even closer. Then his grip slid down the outside of her legs until it moved to the back of her thighs. In one swift motion, he lifted her body off the ground. Y/N yelped into the kiss but her body quickly recovered and she wrapped her legs around his waist.

Neither of them knew how long their lips had been attached. But eventually they had to separate to catch their breath. Bucky didn’t let her go far, still holding her up as if she weighed nothing. Their foreheads were pressed together and they both tried to steady their breathing.

“Bucky, who’s at the door?” A whiny voice came from the direction of his bedroom.

Y/N felt his entire body tense as she looked over his shoulder.

Standing in nothing but her lacy underwear and one of Bucky’s t-shirts was Dot. Her makeup was smeared and her hair was messily sexy.

Y/N felt like she was going to be sick.

She managed to wriggle out of Bucky’s grip even though he tried to keep hold of her.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck…” Y/N whispered under her breath as she started backing away.

“Y/N, wait a second.” Bucky rushed forward.

“I’m such a fucking idiot.” Y/N muttered to herself and her hands ran through her hair in utter distress. The one time she’d taken a risk, put herself out there for a guy and it had completely backfired on her.

“Bucky?” Dot practically cooed.

He turned around to look at her but he was so dumbfounded by the situation. He turned back around to see Y/N retreating.

“Y/N, please, just listen.” His voice was a plea.

“Don’t.” She instantly answered. “Please don’t, Bucky.”

There was no point in saying anything else, Y/N was already in the middle of the street. She walked as fast as she could to her house. Meanwhile, Dot continued to get Bucky’s attention.

As soon as he saw Y/N get inside, Bucky rubbed his face with dread.

“Goddammit!” He bellowed before marching back inside his house and slamming the door.

Y/N was resting her back against her front door. She was in between having an anxiety attack and throwing up. Her breathing was getting harder and harder control. How could she have been so naive? Bucky didn’t want her. She wasn’t his type. At best, he had just seen her as a slam piece or something to entertain him.

Y/N started toward her bedroom and started changing out of her clothes without actually thinking about what she was doing. A few minutes later, she was wearing her running shorts and a sports bra.

When she was utterly panicked and clueless of what to do, she ran.

With her running shoes on and her earbuds in, she peaked out the window to make sure the coast was clear. She wouldn’t be able to handle whatever excuses Bucky would try to throw if he was still out there.

But Bucky was nowhere to be found.

Locking her front door behind her, Y/N then broke into a full on sprint. The music was turned up all the way. She was desperately trying to drown out the thoughts and distract her body from the knot in her stomach. The image of Dot wearing nothing but Bucky’s clothes was enough to keep her adrenaline going.

Y/N didn’t know how long she was running. She wouldn’t let herself stop until her entire body ached and her lungs felt like they were about to burst.

She slowed to a walk and laced her hands together on top of her head. Everything hurt but it was better to feel physical pain than what Bucky did to her.

She must of run miles upon miles, for she didn’t have any idea where she was. The sun had gone down awhile ago, leaving her walking in darkness.

Y/N shrugged and turned around to go back the way she came. Maybe if she rested for a bit she’d be able to break into another jog the rest of the way home.

She’d been completely oblivious to the world around her until her ears were met with the sound of multiple motorcycles coming up behind her. Her entire body tensed. She begged a higher being that it was Bucky’s friends and not anyone else.

But tonight was just not her night.

“Well, well, well…Look who it is.” A dark voice greeted as their bike slowed down enough to match Y/N’s speed walking.

She didn’t need to look over to know it was Brock.

“Not so tough when you don’t have Barnes and his little gang to back you up, are you?” He taunted.

It wasn’t comforting to be reminded of all his friends trailing behind Y/N too.

She continued to ignore him and walk.

“Come on, Brock. Let’s just go.”

She recognized that voice and it made her accidentally look back to see Brent on one of the motorcycles behind them. There were still some bruises healing on his face from the night he picked a fight with Bucky.

“Look at her, Ward.” Brock answered. “Bucky let his little pet loose. Dumb move on his part…” Then he revved his engine forward but skid to the side to completely cut Y/N’s path off. She had to jump to a stop to assure he didn’t run her into the ditch.

Y/N tried to turn around to walk the other way, but his friends seem to follow his move and blocked her path that way too.

“I have no connection to Bucky. I hardly know him.” Y/N finally spoke. It bothered her that she didn’t actually know if she was lying or telling the truth.

Brock had a dark smirk. “I’m going to tell you a little story.” He dismounted his bike and started slowly closing the distance between them. “Our little strip club got raided by the feds the other night. Shut down some illegal operations that were making us a lot of money. Very few people could’ve tipped ‘em off. Barnes and his guys are some of the only people that have the balls to even think about it. That lot is just a bunch of good doers. I’ve suspected that Barnes works with the police for years now.”

“Well, it’s a good thing I’m not part of his gang.” Y/N tried to keep her voice as even as possible.

“Yeah, but it would send a message.”

Y/N swallowed. “What would? I have no part in any of this.”

Brock chuckled and it sent a shiver down Y/N’s back. He was barely a foot away from her now. “You really don’t see it, do you?” Her brow furrowed at his question. “You really don’t see the way he looks at you. Man’s started not one, but two, bar fights to make sure no one else gets you. Do you honestly think that’s a coincidence?”

It didn’t matter what she said anymore. Y/N could see it in Brock’s eyes that his mind was made up. She didn’t know what he planned to do. But she knew her life was in danger.

Without thinking, Y/N shoved Brock as hard as she could. It was enough force to give her a path past him. Despite her body’s exhaustion, she flew into a sprint. But it wasn’t enough. Before she could get to her peak speed, Brock tackled to the hard pavement of the road.

But she wasn’t giving up without a fight. Her mind raced through every self-defense tip she’d ever heard or read. She tensed the heel of her hand and did an upward thrust to his nose. She swore she felt a crunch and Brock let out a howl of pain.

“You stupid, fucking bitch!” He growled and slapped her across the face.

The sting felt like the whole left side of her face was on fire.

Y/N tried to punch him, but he caught her fist before it could make contact.

Brock threw his weight forward so her back slammed back to the pavement. It caused her head to slam back and she saw stars. He pinned both of her hands to the side of her body. She struggled with her knees and legs, managing to send a kick to his manhood.

Y/N continued to fight, but her strength was dying. Her mind tried to focus on surviving and getting away. But it just kept thinking of how her corpse would be found on the side of the road.

Bucky’s cellphone had been ringing for awhile. But he hadn’t noticed it until now.

“What?” He growled without bothering to look at the screen to see who was calling.

“Where the hell have you been?” Steve yelled. “I’ve been trying to call you for half an hour Bucky!”

“What is it, Steve?” Bucky sighed, not in the mood to deal with anything.

“Before I tell you, promise me that you won’t do anything stupid.” Steve’s voice was too careful.

Bucky straightened on his couch. “What? What is it?”

It wasn’t the first time he’d got a call from a member like this. Unfortunately, it was part of their lifestyle.

“Bucky!” Steve snapped. “Promise me!”

Bucky was on his feet pacing his living room now.  “Fine. Fine. I promise I won’t do anything stupid. What the fuck’s happened?”

“It’s Y/N. She’s in the hospital.”

Bucky had never driven his motorcycle faster in his life.

Everything about him must have screamed danger because people at the hospital were diving out of his way and averting any possible eye contact.

He immediately spotted Steve in the waiting room. Natasha, Wanda, Sam, and Thor were seated nearby. There was a radius of empty seats around them, making a clear separation from the rest of the family and friends waiting.

“Talk now.” Bucky growled low.

“It was Rumlow.” Steve sighed. There was no easy way to tell him. “I guess she had gone running or something. The whole Hydra gang must have crossed paths with her.”

Bucky rubbed his scruff to deal with his overwhelming guilt and helplessness. He shifted his weight, trying to control himself. “How bad is she?” He whispered.

Steve looked back at their friends. But none of their looks were giving him any sort of aid. “The doctors said she… she has a couple fractured ribs. Her right hand is broken. There were some cuts and bruises on her face-” Steve had to stop himself. “She’s pretty beat up, Buck.” He exhaled.

Bucky put his hands on his hips and bit his lip. The pain of it stopped himself from punching the first person that even glanced in his direction.

“Who found her?” He didn’t know what else to do, so he just kept asking questions.

“I did.” Thor stood up then and carefully walked over. Bucky’s only cue for him to speak was his glare. “I was on my way to the bar. They left her on the side of the road, unconscious.”

“This is my fault.” Bucky hissed.

“Buck, don’t do that.” Steve immediately started.

“Steve, look me in the eyes and tell me that Rumlow didn’t do this to get at me!” He snapped.

“You were careful.” Steve defended.

“Not careful enough!” Bucky barked back.

“Steve is right. This is not your fault, Bucky.” Thor vowed with more diction and sincerity. He gripped Bucky’s shoulder in comfort.

“What room is she in?” Bucky asked. He needed to see her.

Steve told him the number. “Her mom and sister are with her right now. I think you should wait until they leave for the night. Natasha already conned the doctor to let you in after visiting hours, especially with us not being related and all that.”

“Stay here. I’ll be back later.” Bucky ordered.

Steve’s face dropped. “Buck, don’t do it. That’s exactly what he wants.”

“Yeah, and he’s gonna get it.”

Sam jumped up to join Steve in racing after him. The three of them got on their motorcycles. There was only one place Rumlow could be. If this attack was meant as bait, Bucky knew Brock would be waiting at the bar.

Bucky’s motorcycle wasn’t even fully stopped when he jumped off of it and stomped through the doors of the bar.

Brock was there with his gang, but they hadn’t noticed his entrance.

Without stopping his stride, Bucky walked towards Brock who was innocently playing pool with his back to him.

Bucky picked up a nearby pool stick and flipped it so the narrow end was in his hands. “Hey Rumlow!” He barked.

Brock turned around to be met with Bucky slamming the pool stick across his face, like a baseball bat on steroids. Teeth and blood flew out of his mouth from the hit. Some of Brock’s gang tried to stop the attack, but Sam and Steve had made their way in and kept the fight between Bucky and Brock.

Rumlow was on the ground, spitting blood and loose teeth onto the dirty bar floor.

Bucky looked down at him to realize he was already beat up. Brock’s nose was swollen and definitely broken, there were two black eyes to match. But that wasn’t Bucky’s doing. If he wasn’t blinded by his anger, Bucky would be able to feel the sense of pride toward Y/N’s ability to defend herself.

“Your girl’s a real spitfire.” Brock spat, realizing Bucky was observing his other injuries.

Bucky’s anger flared up once again. His left hand held Rumlow in place as he started landing punch after punch. Bucky blacked out from his rage. And if it weren’t for Steve and Sam pulling him back, he surely would’ve killed him.

Bucky finally stepped back, chest heaving as he looked at the damage he’d done. The entire bar was silent. The patrons always eyed him wearily, but now their gazes were filled with utter terror.

Bucky eyed the rest of Brock’s gang, some of which were bruised and beaten from Steve and Sam. “Anyone else?” He offered sarcastically.

No one even breathed.

“That’s what I thought.” He growled.

Then he took a few steps towards Brock until he was hovering over his bloodied body, barely conscious. Steve and Sam shared a look, ready to jump in if Bucky tried to continue. “And you,” Bucky whispered in a hiss. “You even look at Y/N again and I’ll fucking kill you.”

Rumlow wasn’t even capable of speaking. But the message was heard loud and clear.

When the three men walked outside and returned to their bikes, Steve and Sam watched Bucky carefully. He was pacing back and forth with his hands on his hips. Steve swore he could see tears forming in his best friend’s eyes.

“I fucked everything up…” Bucky almost whimpered.

Steve and Sam just looked at each other. They’d never seen him like this and they had no idea how to handle it.

“Buck, Y/N’s going to recover. She’ll be okay.” Steve said softly.

But Bucky was already shaking his head. “She wouldn’t have been out if weren’t for me.” He took in a deep breath. “She…she came over earlier. I opened my door and she was just there and we kissed.” He was talking quickly now. “Then…God-fucking-damn-it… Dot was there. She drove to my house drunk right before Y/N got there. I made her stay and sober up before I would let her leave. Gave her my shirt to wear because she threw up.”

“Shit…” Sam muttered, fully understanding how it all ended. Anyone would’ve assumed  the same as Y/N.

“She went out running because she was upset. I know it.” Bucky mumbled at the ground.

Steve took in a deep breath and stepped to his friend. He gripped his shoulders tightly. “Bucky, we can’t change what happened. But you better get your ass back to that hospital and fix this.” His voice was demanding. “I���ve known you all my life and I’ve never seen you this way about any girl. So don’t mess it up.”

Wip Folder Tag Game Thingy

Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. I’m also counting art wips or whatever else you have, anything goes basically!!

Ok, I’ve been on vacation, so super late to the party. However, I’m eternally grateful to @aristocratic-otter, @letraspal , @palimpsessed , @creepyspice and @messofthejess  I admire y’all so much and am super honored that y’all thought of me. TBH I’ve been super blocked and kinda figured I’m done with fic writing but an idea hit me the other day + I have a few old WIPs so here’s what I could dig up. Also I don’t have an actual WIP folder, just a writing folder so. And thinking about it, this is kind of a list of shame because I’m not sure I’ll ever finish any of these :/ 

1. (Ficlet) (this is pretty much just some notes I wrote in my phone one night on vacation while I was falling asleep.) it has no title, it’s just an extension of the scene in AWTWB, chapter 52 where Simon runs away into the forest after telling Baz he can do anything to him & whatnot. It’s really nothing but a couple lines of dialogue. 

2. Howlin Forever Epilogue- yikes, a whopping 114 words. Maybe more in my phone???

3. Monopoly Fic Collab- I am the collab killer. The only reason I’m telling you this is that I had too many free drinks on my flight back from Florida. If I’m involved with a collab it will never see the light of day, but apparently I’ve got some paragraphs of one about the gang playing Monopoly (that was part of a long-dead collab that just didn’t make it.) 

4. The One With the Zombies- I started a zombie AU. I have zero recollection of any sort of plot so it sorta just fizzled out.

5. The Boy Next Door. Yikes, started that one for an exchange in 2020, started chapter 4, it’s supposed to be a subversion of the RomCom trope, but I totally ran out of plot so kinda just stopped.

I wonder what happen to dean? Why hasnt he let out new music? He has been working on the 2nd part of the 130 mood series for what is going to be 4 years now he said we would get lots of music in august but really we only got that really short song for that magazine and then a song he was featured on like he promotes everyone else music but his own, i love dean but im worried that people will lose interest in him if he doesnt release music soon its been 3 years since a whole album and 2 years since instagram plus he will be leaving soon to go into the military so we will have nothing out of the whole fancy child crew dean has the least music which is really why im confused on what happen he was just getting big like instagram was a huge song and then it was like he went radio silent for the longest i hope he is okay mind and body cause sometimes dean comes off very insecure about his music and thats why i think he hasnt given us anything

right.. I understand where you’re coming from but nothing “happened” to him. if he’s not releasing anything, that’s simply his prerogative

I get that it can be frustrating how he keeps postponing the album but he has been making, and putting out music. whether they’re features or not, that’s his music still (also yes, 3 years since instragram, but that’s not his latest single, both dayfly and Howlin’ happened)

but you’re right, he doesn’t have a very extensive catalog when it comes to his solo material but I don’t think that’s an issue. Dean managed to establish himself as a prominent figure in the Korean music scene, and even the international one to some extent, in spite of having such a limited repertoire. he is well-respected and admired among his peers and the general public, which has been proven times and times again

even now, despite being mia for the best part of the last two years, songs he’s featured on tend to perform best out of entire albums. I’ve seen that argument being made a few times, that he might lose his following, but he’s still a top-charting artist. people show up for him, they have and I think they will in the future

now, I’ve also seen quite a few people bring up how “he always promotes other people’s music” and... well, personally I don’t understand why people take an issue with that. he has the right to promote whoever and whatever he pleases that being said, not only has Dean been friends with most of the people he promotes for 6+ years, they’re also part of you.will.knovv which is Dean’s music label so yes of course he’s going to promote them

and that’s another thing I think most people tend to overlook. Dean is the CEO of his own company, that he built from the ground up over the past 3 years. they moved into a proper office last year, they started producing clothing and jewellery that he helped designed, he has employees, like all of that takes a lot of work my point being that he has a lot on his plate, not just RVNG

I don’t know how he feels about his music. you used the word insecure, I’d be more inclined to say that he probably feels very burdened and stressed both by the standard he’s set for himself and his deadline. but that’s all conjecture, at the end of the day, I do not know. and I don’t think there’s a point in speculating

if he doesn’t want to put out music then he shouldn’t feel pressured to and that’s all that needs to be said there. Dean has been in this industry for about 8 years, I’m sure he’s very much aware of the repercussion his actions have on his career. I mean if you’re worried, think about how it must feel for him. in any case, he can make his own decisions

what I do know is that he’s working hard to make this album happen and, as a fan, that’s all I need to know. and it’s what it all comes down to, is whether or not you’re willing to wait for it

Storia Di Musica #151 - The Doors, The Doors, 1967

La storia di oggi inizia a Los Angeles: un ragazzo appena diplomato alla scuola di cinematografia della UCLA incontra sui banchi dell’Università un altro ragazzo, che coltiva l’idea di fare il musicista, e gli racconta dei suoi sogni musicali, di cosa vorrebbe dire in un disco. I due giovani in questioni sono Jim Morrison e Ray Manzarek. Morrison è figlio di un ammiraglio della marina americana, Manzarek è di Chicago ed è a Los Angelesper studiare e per cercare fortuna con un piccolo gruppo blues, Rick & The Ravens, dove suona con i suoi due fratelli. Morrison gli parla di teatro, poeti francesi, cinema, ma Manzarek lo convince a mettere su una band. Scelgono un chitarrista, Robbie Krieger, appassionato di flamenco e di chitarre bottleneck (un cilindro cavo di metallo da infilare al dito e che, fatto scorrere sulle corde  conferisce un suono particolare) e un batterista, John Densmore, innamorato del jazz. Nasce così la nuova band a cui Morrison dà il nome The Doors, da un libro di di Aldous Huxley Le porte della percezione (The Doors of Perception) del 1954 in cui è citato William Blake :”Se le porte della percezione fossero purificate, ogni cosa apparirebbe all'uomo com'è: infinita”. Iniziano  nel 1965 a suonare nei locali, e il primo ingaggio importante è al Whisky A Go Go, locale di musica rock che terrà a battesimo alcune tra le più leggendarie band dell’area losangelina: i loro concerti sono ricordati soprattutto per una canzone, con una parte quasi teatrale, che parla dello strazio della guerra del Vietnam e che ricorda il mito di Edipo. La voce che ci sia una nuova sensazione in città arriva a Jac Holzamn, boss della Elektra, che ingaggia il gruppo. Li manda ai Sunset Boulevard Studios sotto le cure di Paul A. Rothchild: il 4 gennaio del 1967 esce The Doors, uno dei più grandi album di debutto di tutti i tempi. La band esprime un suono caldo, che sa di emozione e turbamento, sesso e poesia, allucinazioni e sogni, caratterizzata da tre fattori principali: per molti mesi cercarono un bassista, ma nessuno li convinse più di tanto, Manzarek aggiunse un Fender Rhodes sopra l’amplificatore delle tastiere e suonava “linee di basso”; le passioni personali, il flamenco di Krieger, la musica classica con una predilezione per Bach di Manzarek e il jazz modale di Densmore finirono tutte per influenzare struttura, assoli e composizione dei bravi; e poi c’era Jim, dalla voce calda e riconoscibile, piena di carisma, fascino, di Rimbaud, di miti e epiche leggende. L’album si apre con i tre minuti proto hard rock di Break On Through (To The Other Side), torrido e fantasmagorico, che ha echi di bossa nova (altra passione di Densmore); poi Soul Kitchen è già più calma, The Crystal Ship fu scritta da Morrison per una sua fidanzata, Mary Werbelow.  Twentieth Century Fox fa da apripista alla prima cover, Alabama Song del duo Bertolt Brecht e Kurt Weill, che spiega appieno la voglia anche di musica “recitativa” che aveva Morrison. Il lato a si chiude con una delle canzoni del secolo: Light My Fire, che trascinerà il disco in cima alle classifiche, è una ballad sensazionale che esprime appieno lo stile Doors: psichedelica, con una parte centrale di chiara influenza jazz, nella versione radiofonica fu pesantemente tagliata per favorirne i passaggi, perdendo però tutta la sua selvaggia forza espressiva e musicale. Il lato b è meno suggestivo, nonostante la ripresa di Back Door Man (Willie Dixon - Howlin’ Wolf), la perfettamente losangelina I Looked At You, End Of The Night, che nel testo si ispira a Viaggio al termine della notte di Celine, Take It As It Comes prelude invece ad altro brano clou, quello per cui nei club divennero famosi: The End è un raga rock di oltre undici, ipnotici, minuti, dove in pratica la band improvvisava e Morrison inventava un testo, nelle esibizioni dal vivo spesso cambiandolo ogni volta. Tra decadentismo, la poesia Beat, Blake, Nietzsche, urla, rumori e incubi, si apre con una invocazione “This is The End, my only friend The End” che rimanda a quelle dei cantori classici e che nel suo sviluppo diviene jam session, sogno, recitazione fin quando arriva la definitiva parte declamata: “L'assassino si svegliò prima dell'alba, si infilò gli stivali\Prese una maschera dall'antica galleria\E camminò lungo il corridoio\Entrò nella stanza dove viveva sua sorella e poi\Fece visita a suo fratello e poi\Proseguì lungo il corridoio\E giunse a una porta e guardò all'interno\Padre? Si figliolo? Voglio ucciderti\Madre, voglio...” e qui si apre il Mito: perchè sebbene censurata sul disco, dal vivo, rifacendosi al mito di Edipo Re, Morrison spesso declamava “fuck you all nite long”. La canzone tra l’altro ha uno dei più celeberrimi assoli di chitarra del rock, di Krieger, spesso messo in ombra dal duo Morrison \ Manzarek ma chitarrista sopraffino. Il successo è fragoroso, tanto che la Elektra li spinge in studio per partorire, è proprio il caso di dirlo, nove mesi dopo Strange Days. Rimane un esordio sconvolgente, che apre un anno, il 1967, per la musica eccezionale e irripetibile, di una band che segnerà il maniera decisiva lo sviluppo musicale del rock americano (i primi, con i Velvet Underground, ad avere una formazione scolastica superiore, e si vede nei testi e nei riferimenti): con quello che succederà verranno un po’ oscurati, dal punto di vista musicale, da quello iconico e iconoclasta di Morrison, anche per la sua prematura scomparsa: sono una band fondamentale e da riscoprire con più attenzione ai dettagli, lasciando da parte l’aura leggendaria che li circonda.

Questo è anche il mio augurio di Buon Natale, ma domenica prossima, per esorcizzare questo 2020, ci sarà un disco speciale. Auguri e buona musica a tutti!
