YokaiFell {Red X Frisk; Frans}
🌼Here is all the lore/ story for YokaiFell! This is one of my favorites so I hope you enjoy. It is pretty long as all of these are. If you like what I do please reblog to share it around! After my post earlier today I need to get away. I am doing my best and you know. It still hurts. Thank you to everyone that has reached out and said kind things. I will put a “keep reading” divider after a certain point as there are spoilers for the story. If you want to read the whole plot then be my guest but I want to put that warning.
Alternate “Nicknames” Info:
Sans: Ryutsuki (Ryou) 龍月 Papyrus: Kuro  黒
Yokai Masterlist:
Ryou- Kitsune (Kitsune Ebi- Shou & Rin)
Kuro- Gashadokuro
Doomfanger- Maneki neko (a variation of the bakeneko this kind brings good luck and fortune which I thought would be cute for the brothers. Hilariously Doomy was with Boss before he died coughs. Doomy is kind of like that cricket in Mulan supposed to be lucky but... questionable.)
Flowey: I am unsure if I am planning on putting Flowey in this or just have him as Asriel. Either way, he would most likely resemble the higanbana. These are also Red’s flower of choice, which is…ironic if you know the language of flowers.
The Dreemurrs: (this is a hard one. There are no Yokai as far as I can recall that are goat like, however there are some good candidates that could work. I have a few in mind right now and that is the kotobuki, hakutaku, shisa, Kirin or even the baku.
Undyne: Uni nyobo
Alphys: Honengyo (This is kind of the “Godzilla” idea she would just be mini XD)
Muffet: Jorogumo
Grillby: Onibi (this is a strange one because he would have to be a combination of onibi for this to work but don’t worry I am on it!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gerson: Kappa/ Genbu (due to his wisdom)
*{The lesser monsters would be a variation of yokai not exactly pertaining to their UT counterparts unless I can make that connection. The Underground/ Underworld, in this case, it basically the spirit realm so it’s not really necessary. They are not exactly trapped like in the original.}
Main Plot Synop:  Frisk is a foreigner trying to start a new life across the world in Japan. It is also modern day (I settled on Izumo). The people she moves to live among tell Frisk of their traditions and stories but her being from the West she has a hard time understanding. Frisk is told not to stay out too late and wander the nearby forest but hey who listens to reason? She ends up getting lost, alone, and afraid. That is until a series of flame like lights presumably show her the way back to the town. This happens a few times but she becomes more and more curious by them until they lead her deeper into the forest. She comes upon the entrance of an abandoned shrine stopping before a Torii Gate as the lights disappear. These are kitsunebi by the way. Only when she is hesitant to pass through it, do they appear on the opposite side.
She ends up being startled by a white-haired human that seems to have just appeared out of thin air. He tries to speak to her but she barely understands the language if only a few words. In frustration, the stranger steals a kiss from the shell shocked human girl only for her to suddenly be able to understand what he is saying. A still highly confused Frisk ends up learning that he is, in fact, a demon or rather her interpretation since she is from the West.
It turns out that in order to give her the ability for her to understand him a dose of his magic was required changing the physical makeup of her soul causing it to become desirable to other hungry yokai that roam both the spirit realm as well as the night. Not believing his claim and rather angry at his sudden advance she storms off heading back toward the village. She begins to see more than she should as spirits appear out of the woodwork.
An oni appears in front of her ready to devour the poor unsuspecting human in which she ends up running back to the gate in order to avoid the giant monster. At first, Ryou is not interested in saving the human girl but it is his fault that she has ended up in this situation. He saves her but not before she ends up accidentally running through the Torii Gate attempting to dodge an attack. The beast follows and Frisk ends up trapped in the spirit realm when the monster destroys the gateway. Kuro, Ryou’s older brother makes quick work of the beast.
The rest of the story revolves around Frisk trying to return home which requires a journey since a human does not belong in their realm and the gate to “leave” is on the opposite side of the realm. It is incredibly dangerous for someone like her to be there so she ends up in disguise with the help of Grillby and Red. Red is a kitsune so he is able to create the perfect illusion adding more magic to her soul to fool it into being a yokai. He is surprised to find she is the same kind as him, a kitsune.
Their journey takes them all the way across the spirit realm to find another gate and on the way, they run into a colorful cast of characters. Some are helpful spirits. Others are man-eating demons that are looking for a delicious human soul to devour. At first, Frisk is content staying with the brothers but a human does not belong in their realm and that causes complications.

Yokai Lore/ Spirit Realm world: The spirit realm is a dangerous place that few humans have ever set their eyes on. It the world between. A space that is home to various yokai. Humans cannot naturally see spirits as the modern setting has diminished the humans that still believe in them. They are not trapped but rather there is a hierarchy that is established. The more powerful the yokai the more they are able to interact with the human realm.
Hierarchy brief explanation (restrictions and interactions):
Servants of the gods- Yokai that can interact with the human world during the day or whenever they see fit. They are messengers for their respective deities. They are not known to be troublesome or mischievous.
Kitsune- A more rare type of yokai that can shift its appearance at will but mostly represented by that of a multi-tailed fox. Some of them are servants of the gods but those who have no alignment can walk among the living during the day for a duration of time. When the night comes they can walk freely and interact with humans as they see fit. They are mostly known for luring humans away with kitsune ebi or foxfire.
“Boss” Yokai- Yokai gain their status by either specific species or their prestige. That can either be obtained by LV gain or doing favors for the gods. Some are hostile and some are passive it depends on the encounter. They can walk freely during the night without hindrance but unlike the two prior they cannot take form during the day.
“Lesser?” Yokai- Yokai that are relatively weak and unable to hold a physical form in the human realm. They can move objects and possibly possess humans but they have no ability to interact on a substantial level. They can be seen by some humans as little dancing and vanishing lights. They can rarely pass the barrier as is.
Lost souls- Lost spirits that wander between realms. They cannot interact with humans but can be seen from time to time. They are what the west consider the typical ghost.
Tumblr media
Human Struggles Info {Plot}:
A human does not belong in their realm which also means that the world is also an enemy. The power of the soul plays a huge factor in this as weak souls are more susceptible to the worlds influence. There are three different outcomes that are possible for a human if they end up trapped in the spirit realm.
Dinner is served-  A large number of yokai are known for their man-eating tendencies finding human souls and flesh a kind of delicacy. Some are beasts that kill for pleasure but a humans worst outcome is being eaten or killed.
You’re one of us now- A strong human soul slowly can be changed. The soul decides what kind of yokai that human can become or will become. It is entirely possible that most of the yokai were once human but it is unknown. They are usually lesser yokai or spirits.
Lost soul- What the title implies. A soul unable to remember who they were. They wander for the rest of eternity searching for answers they will never receive. They are miserable creatures that pull others into their fate. Their depression is infectious and anyone already questioning themselves could easily find themselves among their ranks. They are not malicious only confused and desperate.
Symptoms of becoming a Lost Soul:
Confusion
Memory loss
Random emotional response
Physical weakness/ fatigue
SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE MAIN STORY
Relationship {Plot}:
Ryou and Frisk become close for a reason that they are both unsure about. They could be soul mates or his magic that is embedded in her soul begins to spread making her have feelings for him. Either way, her love for him never wavers. A human can never fall in love with a yokai. It is not only forbidden but also very dangerous. *whoops* Their soul bond only grows stronger as their outward feelings increase. They spend the night together not understanding the consequences of that kind of action.
Unfortunately, Frisk begins to show symptoms that her soul is not powerful enough for this world and she begins to lose herself and forget. In desperation, Ryou and Kuro make the decision to travel all the way to the end of the realm to get her back to the human world. When they get there she has a choice. She can stay and become a lost soul for the rest of eternity or leave and forget everything about them. Since Ryou and Frisk are soul bound she would feel loneliness for the rest of her life unable to understand why. It is like losing a part of yourself. It hurts but she chooses the second option returning to the human world a little bit changed from before.
Tumblr media
Epilogue {Plot}:
Though Frisk has forgotten about her soul mate and her time spent in the spirit realm she still has these feelings. She finds herself spending more and more time peacefully sitting by the gate or in the forests surrounding her home. It is calming and peaceful for her. What is even more curious is her new condition. She finds out by some miraculous way (not really she just doesn’t remember) that she is pregnant. When she has her children she finds them as normal children for the longest time until they turn 10. They start seeing things that they shouldn’t including dancing among little fire like lights that she swears she has seen before. She could swear she sometimes sees little fox creatures dancing in the flames. A trick of the light...right?
Frisk doesn’t know but Ryou’s ability to walk in the human realm has him visiting his children and her even though she is unable to see him any longer. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night feeling like someone is there. A kind of warmth that leaves her feeling cold when it’s gone. Her two children begin to show physical signs of being yokai including little fox ears and tails which she does not seem to question. It feels right to her for some inexplicable reason. Her children eventually see their father through the gate one day and Frisk is hesitant to step through it (for obvious reasons). She follows her children only to leave the human world behind once more meeting a stranger that to her is not so strange. Her memory slowly returns with Ryou’s help and they live happily together with their kids. It turns out that giving birth to two yokai children strengthened her soul from before giving her the ability to stay and become a yokai herself. As before she becomes a kitsune. Yay happy Kitsune family.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO ASTERIX’ BY DAVID LITCHFIELD
(This post was originally written for the website nerdybookclub.com on April 3rd 2019)
Tumblr media
One Saturday afternoon, many, many years ago, my nan bought home a book called ‘The Complete Guide To Asterix’. She picked the book up from Kempston Library thinking it was another narrative adventure in the series of books she knew I loved so much.  The book was in fact a detailed text book  written by Peter Kessler which offers a thorough behind the scenes breakdown of every Asterix book that had been created up to that point. There was also a number of features in the book that looked at the creators of these great characters- the writer René Goscinny and the illustrator Albert Uderzo.
The Asterix books were a big deal for me growing up.  They are essentially comedy books but there is something very emotive about them. Asterix and his fellow villagers have so much heart and soul and the companionship between Asterix and his best friend Obelix was a beautiful thing. This may sound odd but carrying an Asterix book around with me at school gave me a sort of weird confidence that is hard to explain.
The exquisite artwork made it very easy for me to escape into this different time and place and visit ancient Gaul.
Growing up in a small town in Bedfordshire, England, there was something magical about reading books that were written and drawn in a different country that- at the time- seemed so far away. This was in the late 80s/early 90’s, before the internet. In a funny way reading Asterix made me feel more connected to the world. I consumed as many of the stories as I could. The artwork was always what drew me in. I still find the Asterix books a real source of inspiration in terms of Uderzo’s drawing style
In fact, I think it is fair to say that  I learnt to draw by copying the illustrations in the Asterix books and spent hours trying to capture Uderzo’s distinctive style. I love how beautifully ‘French’ a lot of the gestures and mannerisms his characters have.
When my nan bought home ‘The Complete Guide To Asterix’ that Saturday I remember being initially disappointed that it wasn’t a new adventure to get lost in.  However, I soon forgot this disappointment and read the whole book that afternoon. I reveled in the background information it offered on how these fantastic, beautifully exotic and hilariously funny comic books were bought to life.
The reason that the moment my Nan bought this book home is so important to me is that I am pretty sure that this is the precise moment that I realized that an ‘Illustrator’ was an actual job that people did.
The book told me that the illustrator and co-creator of Asterix: Albert Uderzo got paid to draw everyday and create characters and worlds and come up with adventures.  I found out that  Uderzo didn’t have to go to school, or go to work- (or at least the type of ‘work’ that I was getting accustomed to through my parents moaning about their own jobs) – Uderzo went to an art studio everyday. In this studio he was surrounded by pens, paint, paper and inspirational books and colorful posters. And he got to create new things every day.
There were photographs of Uderzo in the book. One was of him in his studio at his drawing desk staring up at us smiling. Another was of him working, totally focused on the page he was drawing and the new adventure he was creating.  These photos were captivating.  Uderzo was an actual illustrator. And he did get to do this every single day.
The thought that it was someone’s job to come up with these characters and spend their days drawing them was hugely exciting. When I realised that I could possibly do something similar and that could be my job …well, that thought blew my mind.
The life of Albert Uderzo sounded like a really happy and wonderful life to lead.
We didn’t have a great deal of money when I was growing up and we didn’t have computer games or satellite TV anything like that. But a library card was a very important object indeed and the library was a very important place. One of the most important places in the world in fact. It was there after-all that, aged 5, I found my first Asterix book. ‘Asterix & Cleopatra’.
Every weekend my brother, sister and I along with my mum or my nan would head to Kempston library and I would grab me some more Asterix.
Another thing we did seem to have a lot of back then was paper. My mum was able to get hold of lots of blank paper from her workplace. And I just drew all of the time.
With that paper I made my very own Asterix books. There was ‘Asterix & The Giant’ ‘Asterix In Space’ ‘Asterix Back From the Future’ All these self-made books were around 4 pages in length and written and drawn by me, inspired by the creations of Goscinny and (especially) Uderzo.  This soon developed into me coming up with my own characters and brand-new stories not associated with Asterix. I started to make comics for my brother and sister and my friends. I remember, when I was around 7 or 8, that we had a comic club where me and a few other kids would create comics together in my friends shed. It was a really great time and further sparked the creative fire inside me. There was- and still is- a magic to creating an image or a whole story from nothing. Something that didn’t exist before and now it does. Although, I have no idea where most of these comics are now. There are probably some remnants of them in various attics, garden sheds and birds’ nests around the Bedfordshire area.
When I did grow up and I really committed to becoming a full-time illustrator I thought about what area I wanted to focus on. I kept thinking back to the joy I felt getting lost in the artwork of, not just Asterix, but ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ by Maurice Sendak and ‘The Moomins’ by Tove Jansen.  I thought about how much these books inspired me when I was young.
I thought about how great it would be to be given the opportunity to create my very own, real life picture books.
It is obviously a joy to be able to do what I do and I am incredibly lucky. Illustrating books for children is one of the greatest jobs in the world. But, this job does also comes with a lot of negative factors. The hours are long, the deadlines come around too quickly, being sensible with money is hard, there is no paid holiday leave or health insurance. Sometimes these things can make you feel overwhelmed and down into the dumps.
But when I do feel like that, I think back to those photographs of Uderzo looking happy and content, lost in a zen like state whilst drawing in his studio. I remember how those photos made me aspire to want to live that creative life and how his art made me feel.
I still can’t quite believe that I get to do that now. I draw giants, bears and aliens all day, every day in my very own art studio. Just like Uderzo. That is obviously incredible thing.
I have only been doing this full time for just over 4 years and I still feel very humbled by it all. I feel humbled when someone says that they enjoyed my book, when someone wants me to draw their book or when someone asks to buy some of my drawings.
One of the most humbling and rewarding aspects of this job however is talking to kids at signings or reading the letters they send me about how much they have enjoyed my book and that they read it every night. That is seriously one of the greatest feelings ever. It really does make me feel very honored. It’s such a privilege to have my books be- maybe just in a small, fleeting kind of way- a very small part of someone’s childhood.
I hope that I never lose that feeling of being humble. I hope that I feel humble forever.
Those Asterix books and Albert Uderzo’s illustrations meant so much to me when I was a child. The thought that maybe my own illustrations will maybe do the same and inspire a child today is one of the main reasons of why I do what I do.

______________________________________________________________
It was a good five minutes before anyone spoke. The skeletons were shocked; never before had they ever tasted such homemade cooking. Although Toriel’s butterscotch-cinnamon pie was in a significant amount of competition with the new spaghetti recipe, Sans chose to favor the pasta over the dessert.
He was never one for sweets, like Muffet’s spider bake sale; Papyrus really did enjoy all the sugar, however, but not enough that he’d go all the way to eating spiders. Frisk was always that person known to love sweets, like Temmie Flakes and Spider Donuts. Perhaps it was simply because they were a kid; sometimes, though, the human child got the overwhelming craving for chocolate...
You were stiff in your chair after licking your dish plate clean; you were so stuffed, you didn't think you had the ability to move. Papyrus and Sans looked the same; but, alas, someone had to clean the dishes. Paps took on the responsibility, as Sans was most definitely not going to do it and the taller skele-bro didn't want to trouble his “guest”. You asked him just in case, since you didn't want to come off as a freeloader. “(y/n), i think you did both of us solid by cooking that excellent meal.” Sans winked, and pat his stomach. You didn't feel like bothering to question how it was even possible that he had an “invisible gut”.
Papyrus began washing the pots and pans in the sink, while Sans grabbed something that resembled a toothpick and brought it up to his teeth. You watched in awe as he moved his hand around carefully, and how the holes between his phalanges creaked ever so slightly. His other hand was in his pocket, causing you to look directly towards it just by merely thinking about it. “so what’s on your mind, kid? thinking of how to get back home? to the surface?” Sans winked, and you grinned.
If we’re gonna talk about subjects like these, we have to use code words. Papyrus can't know about all the nonsense about my backstory between the game and how I got here. Really, I'm more interested in Sans and how he functions rather than getting home, but I suppose I’ll play along regardless.. You nod to yourself, and Sans grunt. “good luck with that. frisk met asgore, but now lives with toriel anyways and hasn't freed us just yet. that kid’s determination is the only way to leave, by breaking the barrier…” Sans gave you a knowing grin, and set the pick down. but you already knew that; right?
You gazed away from him, a pink tone warming your cheeks. He rapped his fingers on the table, and observed the kitchen awkwardly similar to a shy toddler. Papyrus chimed into the conversation, rinsing and scrubbing while speaking. “OH, FRISK! I LIKE THAT HUMAN. WE WENT ON A DATE ONCE.” Papyrus mentioned, and you snap out of your stupor. Oh yeah, I remember that. Huh. Can't deny I was a little disappointed when Paps rejected Frisk…
You froze, and your eyes grew wide from your own thoughts.
Your breathing quickened, and a tight tension filled the room. Sans noticed immediately how you were clamping down on the table, holding onto it for dear life. “uh…(y/n)? you good?” Sans asked, leaning forward anxiously. He started to sweat, fearing what had gotten you so stiff and frightened. was it the topic paps decided to bring up? Papyrus wiped his hands, drying his gloves off. He didn't seem to understand the situation you were going through; but how could he?
I think I'm about to have a mental breakdown...again… You shuddered, and cringed when Papyrus continued speaking. “YEAH, IT WAS WEIRD. AFTER ALL THE TROUBLE THE HUMAN WENT THROUGH TO LIKE ME, I COULDN’T HELP BUT FEEL MY LOVE FOR THEM WAS ONLY PLATONIC.” You grasped your head in one hand, tears on the verge of spilling. No. Don't cry. You can't think about him right now… Stay strong. You commanded yourself, but the attempts felt useless.
Sans was really concerned now. He was throwing signals at his brother to shut up, but Papyrus wasn't watching to see the signs. Sans whipped his attention back to (Y/N), and was tempted to shout in order for Paps to drop it.
Whatever he was saying was having a major effect on (Y/N); the poor girl looked like she was under a ton of emotional distress. Her whole body was shaking, and Sans could tell that she was about to burst into tears again. She was fighting so hard not to, which Sans admired and hated at the same time. He needed to have a long discussion with her soon about whatever was killing her from the inside out; but now was not the time.
“SO LONG STORY SHORT, I HAD TO REJECT THEIR OFFER.” Papyrus said simply, and (Y/N) gasped. Sans saw her bite down on her lip hard enough to spill blood, which finally made him lose his cool.
He shot out a hand to her own, and wrapped his fingers around hers comfortingly. “papyrus!” He snapped, and the innocent skeleton flinched. Sans never raised his voice; most certainly not at Papyrus. Sans scowled cruelly, burning daggers thrown towards the tall brother’s soul. Papyrus raised a hand, and covered his mouth with shock.
Paps didn't know that his words made your heart feel like it was being shredded into two, but he did know that what he said had triggered you in such a way that his own brother had yelled at him. Sans never told Papyrus off; meaning that he (the normally calm and collected comedian) was very panicked over your own behavior. You didn't blame him; you would’ve done the same if you saw someone acting like their worst fear was right in front of them.
Papyrus let out a quiet response, one that you almost didn’t hear. “I-...I apologize if I said something wrong. I'll leave now… I’m truly sorry.” He sadly hung his head, and trot out of the room, which only made you want to cry even more. You refused to, but your heart said otherwise now that Sans had his whole attention on you once more. “(y/n), holy crap. are you alright? talk to me! you look as if you were just hit by greater dog.” Sans squeezed your clammy hand, but you kept your other forcefully on your mouth. You were not going to let out a sob. You were determined not to.
But alas, your soul eventually transformed into a deep shade of blue and took control of your actions. You released a much needed cry, and flinched at how raw your voice instantly sounded. Your eyes widened, and tears spilled out. Sans cringed, and pulled his chair in closer to the table so he could reach over further. His pin pricks flicked back and forth, studying you. He kept quiet, waiting for you to answer.
After regaining your composure, you took in a shallow breath. “It’s...it’s about something that happened right before I fell into the Underground.” Sans held his breath, and stiffened. His hand warmly stayed intertwined with yours in a calming manner. In any other situation, you would have been blushing like crazy; but right now you were in a serious crisis, one where you could feel your soul trying to escape from your chest.
Sans didn’t know what was coming, for (Y/N)’s problems were very different from his own. She mentioned how this was all a video game; a world of codes and numbers. As hard as it was to believe that, Sans slightly understood. He’d always felt in some weird way that he often repeated the same things over and over to Frisk as they went along their journey; like a really bad case of deja vu. Sans didn’t originally want to believe about the many timelines and resets, since it sounded like one’s worst nightmare, but it was the truth. And the truth hurt.
“paps was talking about his date with frisk. does that topic sort of relate to whatever’s making you act like this?” Sans questioned politely, and you nod. “Well, sort of.” Your voice trailed off, and you suddenly felt very tired. The skeleton must have seen this, as he got up from his side of the table and walked to yours. He still held your hand, and rest the other on your shoulder.
“come on, (y/n). we can discuss this tomorrow, or the day after if you’d like. it’s late, and after all the drama that happened today, i think we could all use a long night’s rest. agreed?” The question was rhetorical; he had already started tugging at your shirt to get up. You wobbled up and out of your seat, and wiped your eyes with a tissue that Sans had gratefully provided.
