Brown Eyes and Buster Keaton in Go West (Buster Keaton, 1925)
Cast: Buster Keaton, Howard Truesdale, Kathleen Myers, Ray Thompson. Screenplay: Buster Keaton, Lex Neal, Raymond Cannon. Cinematography: Burt Haines, Elgin Lessley. Art direction: Fred Gabourie.
The stone-faced persona was Buster Keaton's trademark as a film comedian, alluded to in a scene in Go West in which Keaton's character, known only as Friendless, plays poker with a guy who cheats. When Friendless calls him on drawing from the bottom of the deck, the guy pulls out the familiar line from The Virginian: "Smile when you say that." Incapable of smiling, Friendless attempts the expression by poking up the corners of his mouth with two fingers, a device that Keaton borrowed from Lillian Gish in Broken Blossoms (D.W. Griffith, 1919). However frozen his facial expression might be, however, Keaton was a master of body language, able to communicate love or diffidence or fear with the very angle of his stance. No one ever did a pratfall better than Keaton, once he discovered that the trick is to keep your legs stiff when you land on your butt. Go West is one of the lesser Keaton features, not quite in the league of The Navigator (1924) or Seven Chances (1925) or the sublime The General (1926). The gags are plentiful but they're not set up quite as well as in those pictures, or as elaborate as the ones in Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928) and The Cameraman (1928). When the focus goes away from Keaton, as it does in the scenes in which he leads a cattle drive through the streets of downtown Los Angeles, causing much havoc, the film gets a little scattered. Keaton is at his best when he sets up a simple gag, as when he repeatedly arrives late for dinner with the other ranch hands, who get up and leave the table once he sits down, so that eventually he rushes in, sits down first, gobbles his dinner, and then gets up and leaves the moment they sit down. Friendless finally finds a friend: a cow named Brown Eyes -- an outcast like himself because she refuses to give milk. Rescued from the slaughterhouse, Brown Eyes climbs into an automobile with Friendless and, seated beside him, rides away. Fatty Arbuckle, incidentally, has a bit part in drag in Go West, as a woman in the department store invaded by the cattle.

The Seven Labors of Mokuba Kaiba - Easter Egg Explainer Pt. 2/7
I peppered The Seven Labors of Mokuba Kaiba, my recent 15-chapter, 60,450+ word Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic (written for YGOME and NaNoWriMo) with all kinds of references. Some of them are just for fun, while others can help you get a sneak peek into future chapters or elements of the world.
READ THE FIC HERE
See how many you spotted in Chapters 3-4!
Anzu (now) lives in the Minato ward of Tokyo. This is the same area where Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon takes place. This is important because of an Easter egg reference I make later on.
Anzu’s ex (who played Seto Kaiba during the Broadway run of Millennium) is a guy named Eric, named for Kaiba’s English voice actor, Eric Stuart. The guy he cheated on her with (who played Yuugi) is named Dan, for Dan Green, Yugi’s English VA.This is my “hat tip” to Prideshipping, because I couldn’t otherwise figure out how to add in a “fake dating AU” plot into this (which was one of the four prompts I received).
It’s a headcanon I keep coming back to, but it’s a favorite of mine simply for the drama: I’ve always believed Mokuba would reasonably develop a crush on Anzu. In the Schmoozeverse, it’s not reciprocated, but he’s still a charmer and hasn’t quite gotten over her.
I always knew I wanted Anzu to ask for a dress, but based on the timeline I created, I wasn’t sure what event it would be for. Thankfully the amount of time that passed between Hamilton’s Broadway opening and it receiving Laurence Olivier Awards for its West End production fit, and so Anzu’s dress is for those awards. There actually aren’t too many theatre awards out there, I learned! Or rather, there are lots of awards for which Hamilton broke tons of records (and thus Millennium did too, in the Schmoozeverse), but only a few are big-name, televised events.
Normally original cast members do not join touring casts, and touring casts might actually have “residencies” that last months or even years. For the sake of this story, Anzu leaves Broadway, joins the touring cast to San Francisco and Hollywood but NOT to Seattle, San Diego, or Chicago (which Hamilton had). She had to go to West End before those productions ended their residencies, so I had her feasibly audition someone else to play “her” at those shows.
This dress is the one Anzu is referring to having worn at the Met Gala (art by @mrn0093). In reality, Zendaya wore it. (Though personally I think this artistic rendition looks a bit better than the real thing!)
Mokuba revealing that Millennium isn’t just a Broadway show (starring Anzu) that he executive produced/invested in, but is actually about Atem, and Anzu helped write, produce, AND choreograph it is a set up for the second story in the Schmoozeverse: the aptly-titled Love and the Art of Schmoozing, the fic directly inspired by a thread @kaibacorpintern had about Kaiba Corporation holiday parties. Long story short: Anzu and Yuugi have not spoken in years.
The duelists on Seto’s contact list are as follows:
Phoenix = Edo Phoenix, a.k.a. Aster Phoenix in the dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
J. Manjoume = Jun Manjoume, a.k.a. Chazz Princeton in the dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX
R.O△ = Ryou Marufuji, a.k.a. Zane Truesdale in the dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Why O△? Because O is pronounced as “maru” in Japanese, while the △ is Seto Kaiba’s shorthand for “mountain” or “fuji,” (like Mt. Fuji) which is the second part of this duelist’s name.
X = Uh, literally his name is given as X. In the dub, he’s Howard X. Miller, and they randomly make him a lawyer who wanted to be a patissiere? Nah, he’s just a Pro Duelist who looks kinda scummy. He participates in the Genex Tournament at Duel Academia, which took place shortly before the events of this fanfic, in the GX timeline.
KKid = Kabukid, a.k.a. Orlando. Another Genex Tournament participant, and one who is a “Cosplay Duelist” who loves Kabuki theatre.
Math? = Mathematica. Same name in the dub, more or less. We see him later in the fic. Another Genex Tournament participant.
Parker = Sommelier Parker, a.k.a. Maitre’D in the dub. Another Genex Tournament participant.
Guerrero = Sangre Guerrero “Blood Warrior” but they renamed him Elroy Prescot in the dub and turned him into an Elvis impersonator. sigh. Another Genex Tournament participant.
KJ = Katsuya Jounouchi, as we end up learning in this chapter.
Jacques Mode is a corny fake French name that basically translates to “JACK FASHION” and with a franchise that has a character named “Jack Atlas” I thought it was only appropriate. He first appeared in my ongoing Azureshipping fanfic, What Doesn’t Kill You.
SV = Solid Vision; PR = Public Relations
Fashion Weeks held in the fall are for spring/summer fashion, while shows in the spring are for fall/winter fashion. The order goes New York → London → Milan → Paris. They’re generally for women during these times, as the menswear shows are during January and June/July, compared to September/October and February/March. Some designers change this up, though.
The “peacock lady” ends up being a reference to who will appear in chapter 4: Mai Kujaku (Kujaku meaning “peacock” in Japanese).
New York Fashion Week tends to feature more athleisure; Milan is ultra-stylish; London is avant-garde, and Paris is haute-couture. Considering what Anzu asked for, Mokuba is pretty well positioned to find a decent dress for her at Paris Fashion Week.
Imagine this outfit, but in dark purple instead of black, and the woman is Mai. That’s what she’s wearing when she discovers Mokuba backstage. (This is Sae Nijima from the video game Persona 5, by the way.)
The fic is littered with Hamilton references because of how the songs ultimately inspired Love and the Art of Schmoozing, the fic where I actually go in deep with Anzu creating Millennium and the fallout from it years later. Sometimes the reference is blatant, with lines like victory “from the jaws of defeat,” a direct reference to “Stay Alive” from the show.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time confirming the car Mai had in the anime and what she would need it upgraded to by the time of the fic. And then on Japanese vehicle law, used trade-ins, European car imports/exports, right-hand vs. left-hand steering and the countries that use it, and car paint colors. Yeah, I’m a bit extra.

I apparently accidentally deleted this list, so to avoid for it happening, I’m going to post this re-creation. This list features all the legacy characters who got major support in main sets and Duelist Packs since VRAINS era, and which of those are not in Duel Links yet. Original list had a huge disclaimer, so I might re-write it, but for the time being, you will only have the list itself.
Edit: The (Recreated) Disclaimer:
This list covers only VRAINS era onward Main Sets and Duelist Packs, all other sets and promos are ignored, as they are not as important.
For Main Sets and Duelist Packs, only Japanese versions are focused on. TCG versions do not matter.
This list only covers legacy characters who got major support. Characters and decks who got one-off support like Desmanian Devil(Chumley/Hayato) or Animadorned Archosaur(Hassleberry/Kenzan) are not listed, even if they got major support later on, like Chazz/Jun’s Ojama Duo. Same goes for one-off retrains like Dark Honest.
Only supports are listed if they are intended for a character specifically. For example, recent Monarch support isn’t listed for Sawatari, as it is not directly intended for him. Neither has Gladiator Beast support been listed for Battle Beast, even if they utilize slots reserved for animé archetypes.
Retrains not intended for a given character are not listed. So the Metaphys Tyrant Dragon is not listed for Rex Raptor/Dinosaur Ryozaki, neither has been the recent Red-Eyes Zombie Synchro for Joey/Katsuya.
VRAINS era characters are not listed in VRAINS era sets, since they are not legacy characters in their own series.
Both Japanese and localized English names are used for characters and sets, so romanizations and translations will vary. If you don’t like them, blame Konami’s customer service.
This list may or may not be periodically updated. We’ll see.

YOUR DATA, THEIR GREED: Cyber Boxing in America... by heidi siegmund cuda, aka @maewestside
As the volunteer activists of the #freepress #truthsquad pass the baton of knowledge 24/7 on our twitter threads, making reading hep again, one of our favorite Austrians with great compassion for America @euphoriceuler weighed in with this reminder today: if it’s free, you’re the product.
In other words, our data’s been auctioned by billionaire misanthropes with t’axes to grind aiming for an #roi of global domination, and quite frankly, those billions in free publicity that corporate controlled media gave the #meinshitshow (cuz rating$) have the fossilized globaldom set still winning right now.
As the #altwrong neodoosh trumpery paid for by billionaire creepers to run interference on truth continues, I do want to make one thing clear:
Our country’s immediate future comes down to the character of two men:
Robert Mueller III vs the Real Fake President (RFP).
So as altwrong info$lime efforts ramp up to discredit Mueller, the former director of the F.B.I. now appointed to investigate the Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and as those same efforts attempt to legitimize the RFP, I created this timeline so Americans can judge for themselves that thing that Eleanor Roosevelt taught us is so critical to a man’s true value: character.
ROBERT MUELLER III VS THE REAL FAKE PRESIDENT: A TIMELINE OF CHARACTER
1944 Robert Mueller III, born in Manhattan to Alice Truesdale and Robert Swan Mueller, a DuPont exec who was class president at Princeton before serving in the Navy during World War II.
1946 Real Fake President (RFP) born in Queens to Mary Anne MacLeod and Fred Trump, a real estate developer sued for housing discrimination, investigated for profiteering and an illegal bailout of his son’s casino; and the subject of eviscerating song lyrics by Woody Guthrie, a former Brooklyn tenant.
1966 Mueller graduates from Princeton, marries his teenage sweetheart Ann Cabell Standish, and would go on to earn a Master’s in International Relations from NYU (he resumes his education post-Vietnam at UVA).
1968 Mueller enlists in the Marine Corps to serve in the Vietnam War, where despite receiving a gunshot wound, returns to duty to lead his platoon. He receives a dozen medals of valor, including a Purple Heart.
1968 RFP graduates from University of Pennsylvania and goes to work in the family business. He avoids military service during Vietnam War with five deferrals, one for bone spurs in his heel.
1973 -1993 Earning a law degree from UVA, Mueller embarks on a career where he excels to become a top white collar crime litigator in both public and private sectors, specializing in international money laundering and public corruption; serving in the United States Attorneys office and the United States Justice Department, where he oversaw the prosecution of Manuel Noriega and the Gambino Crime Family boss John Gotti.
1972-1992 RFP marries Czech model Ivana Zelnickova; opens a tower in his name in 1983, publishes books, board games; in 1987, he’s turned down by Australia to build Sydney’s first casino due to alleged mob connections; and by 1990, is $900 million in debt; in 1992, three casinos go bankrupt and he and Ivana divorce.
1995-1999 Mueller returns to public service as senior litigator in the homicide section of the District of Columbia and in 1998 is named the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California.
1995-1999 RFP goes public with more casinos and hotels, buys the Miss Universe Organization and in 1999, forms a model management company and divorces second wife; in 1997, tells Howard Stern he was a “brave soldier” for avoiding STDs in the late ‘90s, a period he describes as his “personal Vietnam.”
2001-2013 Mueller becomes the sixth Director of the FBI, serving under both President Bush and President Obama, who asked him to stay on another two years past his ten-year term making him the longest serving FBI director since J. Edgar Hoover.
2004-2015 RFP becomes a Reality TV Star; opens a “university” (shut down amid lawsuits of it being a scam, prompting the first multimillion dollar settlement of his real fake presidency); marries the Slovene in 2005; becomes a spokesman for a multilevel marketing company accused by multiple states and countries for operating as an illegal pyramid scheme.
2016 Mueller wins the 2016 Thayer Award for Public Service from the United States Military Academy.
2016 RFP accepts the Republican nomination for President and is elected after a campaign rife with misogyny, bigotry and catchphrases that 62 million Americans thought were funny, despite losing the popular vote by about 3 million votes; investigative reporters work 24/7 proving RFP involved with an international crime syndicate that enabled cybertreason but depending on where you get your news, you might not have heard about it. Or you might not care.
2017 Mueller appointed Special Counsel for Russian Interference in the United States Elections of 2016, leading the investigation into Russian meddling in the election and ties to the RFP campaign; he’s joined by a team of the nation’s top experts in fraud, cyber crime, white collar crimes, public corruption and money laundering.
2017 RFP has weak turnout for the inaugural carny (cuz bots are fake), which was overshadowed by the Women’s March, and he struggles to keep press secretaries, cabinet members and advisors as #meinshitshow ratings wobble in the coveted 18 to 49 demo. Despite efforts to distract with fear mongering and fake patriotism, people are seeing the truth.
****
So there you have it. A tale of Two Americans. One is a man with a long history of integrity; the other a cunning carny, who in a previous era would have been charged with treason the first time he invited a foreign enemy to hack one of America’s leaders, a women he cheated out of the presidency.
No amount of infoslime thrown at Robert Mueller will distract from the fact that America is still capable of seeing the truth once the ratings dip, and truth becomes the only thing left to sell.
