HOW TO GET THERE?
Tumblr media
A few days before you arrive to the area, you’ll need to book a visit to Kalanggaman Island via Palompon’s Ecotours Office (the local tourism board). Here they control the number of people heading to the island, they collect fees and arrange boat transportation as well as accommodation for those planning to stay overnight.
The high season is from April to May. To travel to Kalanggaman during that time, you should arrange everything far in advance, just to make sure.
If you’re less than 15 people and want to save money on the pump boat by sharing it with others, enquire about it at the Ecotours office in advance.
BINALONAN TO MANILA - via Bus - 4h 40m (P310 - 480) - via private car - 2h 11m - via Gerona Bus - 4h 29m P372-454

What Makes Me Happy: Beach and a Dog.
I love going to the beach, it has blissful and soothing effect that makes my soul renewed every time I go. I don’t frequently get to it coz of time, funds and availability of friends/family, but whenever the universe allows, I’m there!  How I wish I’m there, at this very moment. But sadly, for now, I have to face reality. (Reality: Defense will start in two hours! I wanna vomit :| :( )
Tumblr media
Luckily, our country has the best beaches in the world. Don’t have to go overseas to see and experience a truly stunning beach.  I have been to Bali and Phuket, but I still love our very own Boracay a million times more because truth be told, the latter is so much more beautiful and serene. Gotta love our own, man! :)
But, of course, a beach lover like me wishes to see and experience all the beautiful beaches in the world. I want to go to Malapascua in Cebu, Kalanggaman Island in Leyte, Siargao, Santorini, Hawaii, Maldives and many more.
Tumblr media
Honestly, I don’t know how to swim. I’m just a sucker for beautiful waves, fine sands and sunsets.  I’d rather be shoveling sand than shoveling snow. That, for me, is happiness! :)
Tumblr media
Another beautiful creation from God that makes me genuinely and consistently happy is our family’s Shih Tzu Dog, which was named after the famous American rapper, singer, and songwriter, WIZ KHALIFA. (Weird, eh?)
I’m the youngest in the family but when Khalifa arrived three years ago, we had a new “bunso” in the family. We all treat him like a baby. We all love him. He’s our favorite family member. Haha. He goes wherever we go, he had been to Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Bicol, Ilocos, Masbate, Cagayan Valley, Leyte, Samar and many more. A vacation is never complete and happy without him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia: I had “cynophobia”, which means fear of dogs. I had a traumatic experience when I was a kid as I’ve witnessed someone being attacked by a dog.
Tumblr media
But, it all changed when Khalifa came. He made me believe the saying that Dogs are man’s best friend.  He is a protective and loyal friend.
Tumblr media
The image above, which I have stumbled upon Facebook recently, struck my heart and made me oddly emotional. The past few months had been the busiest and craziest moments, all I look forward to everyday was to go home and see him waiting for me, waiving his tail, and rushing on me to be cuddled. I feel like I’m healed from all my worries and fears brought about my job and studies when Khalifa is on my side.  With him around is where my comfort zone is.  With him around is where my happy place is.  What did I do to deserve this lovely dog? Uhmm.
Tumblr media
Hope that everyone around me has their own source of happiness. Whether a person, a pet, a thing, a place or an event. Because If you’re unhappy, what’s the sense?

Kalanggaman Island: Philippine’s Next Boracay-ish Destination
Kalanggaman Island is the pride of Palompon, Leyte. The island is reeking of adventure and exclusivity. The turqoise water and white sand of the island would totally make you love the island. Kalanggaman island tour isn’t that easy to book with since the day it gains popularity because only 500 people are allowed to enter the island in order to preserve its beauty and to keep the island from polluted.
The island is flat and surrounded by white sand with some rocky part. The eastern and western tips are sandbars that blend well with the color of the water. Dwarf coconut trees are scattered in the center, while rich and colorful marine life is resting underneath, unexploited. There’s no resort or hotel in the area, which is a good thing to most people since less buildings and establishments present is one way to preserve the beauty of the island and other things, but campers are welcome in the island.
How to get there?
From Cebu – There are boats in the town of Bogo that are accredited to transport tourists to Kalanggaman Island. Going there from Cebu City, catch a bus to Bogo from North Bus Terminal and proceed to Bantay Dagat near Siocon Elementary School to charter a boat to Kalanggaman Island.
From Leyte – Go to Ormoc City or Tacloban City in Leyte. And from Tacloban, catch a van to Palompon. Van leaves every hour from downtown, travel time is around 3 hours, the van fare is P160 ($3.1). And as for Ormoc, you may catch a local bus or van to Palompon for 2 hours travel time, van fare is P120 ($2.2).
In Palompon – Proceed to the Palompon Tourism Office and charter a pump boat to Kalanggaman Island thru the Ecotours Office. Boat rate is P3,000 for maximum of 15 passengers, P3,500 for maximum of 25 passengers and P4,000 for maximum of 30 passengers.
Having your kalanggaman island tour done by a tour agency is much easier and wiser rather than doing it yourself since they could book your tour smoothly and hassle-free and you don’t need to stress yourself. Reserve your strength for your coming adventure, you will surely need all of your energy on the day of your Kalanggaman Island Tour.

The Labor Day weekend altered the hushed atmosphere of Inopacan. Travelers and tourists flocked the boulevard to get a slot of the first batch of boat departures, which at that time, ran out really fast. It was still six in the morning, yet the dispatcher’s booth was overwhelmed with the swarm of excited as well as incited individuals. We were fortunate to be the first ones on the queue.
A stunning sunset at Digyo Island
Cuatro Islas: The Four Scenic Islands of Leyte
Immediately after our market quest to shop for our two-day survival provisions, we found ourselves navigating to Mahaba Island, one of the four scenic islands of Cuatro Islas.
Mahaba Island
The surface was almost placid. Only the fine ripples disturbed the clear view of the sea floor. If it wasn’t because of the outriggers approaching, the surrounding waters of Mahaba Island would appear as a vast, well-maintained aquarium.
Mahaba Island of Cuatros Islas
The white beach, the blue sky, the green foliage, and the aquamarine deep worked faultlessly to lure travelers into its dungeon, a gorgeous one. Sentineled with gentle underwater creatures, getting locked in the island seems a beautiful punishment—I would gladly commit a sin.
Apid Island
Apid Island was our next stop. A small fisherman village thrived there without hurting nature. The water around it looks translucent and unadulterated. The beach sand may not be as fine as your expectation, but is uniquely good-looking through any grateful eyes.
Apid Island of Cuatro Islas
Digyo Island
Third stop was Digyo Island. A white sandbar protrudes to its southeastern tip, which is why; it is a common favorite among the sojourners.
Digyo Island is the most popular among the four scenic islands of Cuatro Islas
The good mix of white sand and rocky shorelines added supplementary excitement. It wasn’t all about the white sand after all. The interesting beachrock, which was naturally cemented by the tide, adorns the other side of the island. And then, during good season, you’ll have an exceptional vantage of the stunning sunsets and sunrises. The underwater community around Digyo display extraordinary surprises as well.
The shallows of Mahaba Island with Himokilan Island in the background
Himokilan Island
From afar, Himokilan Island looks promising. It was a big frowner when our boatman said that we could not make a stop there. We can actually navigate closer to the island for an additional fee of ₱500. However, we found it not worth the time and money.
Himokilan is no longer part of Inopacan. Thus, if we want to visit the island, we need to book for a separate boat at Hindang, an adjacent municipality. We also heard that Inopacan enforces the same policy for guests coming from Hindang—that if you book a boat via Hindang, you are not allowed to visit Mahaba, Apid, and Digyo Islands, which are under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Inopacan.
I haven’t verified the truthfulness of the boatman’s story, but it appeared that it was the information communicated to them by the tourism proponents of Inopacan. They were more likely true, since they underwent seminars and accreditation before they can offer their services.
We were hoping that the Provincial government of Leyte will step in to settle the differences of these two municipalities and reach a memorandum of understanding. In the first place, we visited Cuatro Islas to experience, not just one, two, or three, but all the four islands.
The beachrock of Digyo Island provides a remarkable contrast to its powdery, white sand beach
How to Get There
From Manila, take a flight to Tacloban, and then transfer to a van bound for Inopacan. You can also take a Baybay-bound van, and then take another van from Baybay to Inopacan. Travel time is up to 2.5 hours and may cost you ₱250.
From Cebu, hop on a ferry to either Hilongos or Baybay in Leyte, and then take a jeepney to Inopacan. Roble Shipping leaves Cebu’s Pier 3 at 09PM and arrives in Hilongos or Baybay around three in the morning. The regular economy fare is ₱275.
You can also take a fast craft from Cebu City’s Pier 1 to Ormoc or Maasin, and then transfer to a van bound for Inopacan. The earliest trip, however, is 05:30AM for Super Cat or 06:00AM for OceanJet. Travel time is 3 hours and the one-way fare starts at ₱600.
Digyo Island Sandbar
From Kalanggaman Island, return to Palompon town proper, and then board a van to Ormoc. When in Ormoc, transfer to another van bound for Inopacan. Total travel time is up to 3 hours and it will cost you ₱250 for the transportation.
If you are coming from Canigao Island, Karap-Agan Falls, or Hitoog Cave, return to Matalom town proper, and then hop on a jeepney or bus to Inopacan. Note that there are very few public transport that ply this route. As an alternative, take a trike to Bato from Matalom, and then transfer to a Baybay-bound van. Make sure that you alight at Inopacan. Travel time is usually one hour.
Cuatro Islas Fees
Boat Rentals
₱2,500 – up to 10 persons (includes island hopping)
₱3,000 – 11 to 20 persons (includes island hopping)
₱4,000 – 21 to 30 persons (includes island hopping)
₱500 – overnight surcharge
Cottage Rentals
₱500 – closed cottage (day use)
₱300 – open cottage (day use)
₱200 – tent
₱50 – overnight surcharge
Entry Fees
₱50 – maintenance fee (LGU)
₱10 – environmental fee (DENR)
₱10 – maintenance fee (Barangay)
Other Fees
₱30 – Container of fresh water for bathing or cleaning
₱50 – Space for tent
₱50 – Cooking charge (if you hate the hassle of cooking your own food)
Notes, Tips, and Reminders
The fine and powdery white sand of Digyo Island stands out against the big crowd of campers
You can bring your own provisions that would suffice your entire stay. However, if you hate the peskiness associated with carrying too much stuff, you can buy your food and drinking water in the island at prices way higher than recommended.
Some fisher folks sell their fresh catch. They can also cook them for you for an additional fee of ₱50.
Cellular signal for basic services in the island is decent but connecting to the internet is completely sluggish.
If possible, travel on weekdays. Digyo Island, where most travelers spend the night, usually go really crowded on holidays and weekends. Big crowd means long queue on comfort rooms and shower areas and uncontrolled photo bombers.
If you still have time, you may include Canigao Island, Karap-agan Falls, and Hitoog Cave in your itinerary.
Though not an island policy, I suggest you bring your garbage with you back in the mainland for proper disposal.
BE A RESPONSIBLE TRAVELER OR TOURIST. Always remember to internalize and follow the “traveler’s creed”: Leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures, and kill nothing but time.

Leyte Trip with the Fam
I had four days and three nights vacay last Feb 14-17, 2019 with my family. It was one of the best trips I ever had so far.
Feb 14, 2019 - first day
Happy Valentines day everyone. I hope you all find a way to celebrate it with your loved ones. Remember: V-day is not only for couples. Time check - 11:00am. Our flight going to Tacloban is 3:30pm. We decided to take the UBE Bus going to terminal 3. We ate and waited for about an hour. Everyone seems excited - especially me. I’ve been waiting for this trip with them. Everyone is so busy with their own life and career. It’s difficult for us to find a time that will fit everyone’s schedule. I thought that it will be impossible. But, hey! here we are. I know how happy they are as I look and stare at them. I can only hear nothing but their laughs. What a beautiful day spending v-day with these sicko peeps at the airport.
Time to board! Sorry guys but I fell asleep in just a snap. We land around 5 to 6pm. The good thing is andun na yung sundo namin na maghahatid samin sa hotel. It was chaotic inside the van; full of peals of laughter and asaran - which is good. By the way, our hotel is just 20 minutes away from the airport. Kaya konting tambling lang nasa hotel na kami agad. Everyone is starving and we all decided to eat at Robinson's since we all need to buy some groceries for kalanggaman trip tomorrow.
Milktea sesh and more chickahan before bedtime is a must hahaha.
Feb 15, 2019 - second day (Kalanggaman trip)
Woke up at 5:00am to prepare for our overnight trip to Kalanggaman Island. I don’t want to lie but I’m still sleepy. But I know this will be a rip-roaring road trip so waking up early will be worth it. As the driver mention awhile ago it’s a 2-3 hours drive. I was already thinking paano ko lilibangin ang sarili ko sa loob ng tatlong oras. Tatlong oras mga beshy.
I was mesmerized with what am seeing. I was fascinated; it was enthralling at the same time of how beautiful the world is. I appreciate God’s creation a little more. Geez man! I hope everyone could see it.
As I sit in the van watching and observing the people in Tacloban wondering how were they able to survive and move on from the typhoon Yolanda. They were all over the news. The place was totally washout during that time. But now, as I look at them, I could see nothing but smile and contentment in their faces. Imagine the tragedy that they been through. Apir Tacloban peeps!!! I salute you guys for not giving up in life.
I want to sleep but I couldn’t because of this ravishing view. Three hours after we finally reach our destination. We were already in the port. We were instructed that we will ride the boat for about 45 minutes to reach Kalanggaman Island. Almost one hour in the sea in the middle of nowhere. I couldn’t contain my excitement and so I fell asleep. We were halfway there when I suddenly feel dozy. The next thing I knew when I opened my eyes is that we were about to get off the boat.
It is lunchtime. We decided to eat first before we change clothes and get ready. Of course right after we went for a walk at the beach to take some photos and just enjoy. Everyone’s having the best time. I can tell because I can see. I like the weather since it’s not that sunny nor gloomy and it was just perfect.
Drinking sesh alert! Any beach trip wouldn’t be complete without a little blend of booze in the body. We were drinking when it started to rain. The time was moving too slow and everything feels just right. I could stay here forever as long as I’m with them. My life would be dusty without these crazy bunch and that’s for sure. After our first drinking session (yes! there will be a second round) we walk for a while and had a quick dip at the beach. I could say that everyone’s dancing at the sound of the waves. Can’t blame them for everything was in the right tune.
We had dinner and clean ourselves right after. And then prepare for our drinking session round two. Well, on the other hand, it will be just us girls since the boys were already knockout. My tita prepared a game for us and it was fun and very engaging. It was not a normal game. It’s more of understanding, getting in touch, getting to know and just loving and accepting each and every one no matter what flaws; fragment they have in life. Drinking and playing that game was my favorite part. No pretentious, no sugarcoating, and no need to hide in the closet because it’s just us - no judgment.
Ending the day right.
Feb 16, 2019 - the third day
Time to fix our stuff and go back to the hotel. Another 45 minutes at the boat and another three hours road trip back to the hotel. Everyone is tired you can easily tell by looking at their faces.
It’s almost 3:30pm when we reach the hotel and we only have one hour to prepare for our tour (you got it right we still have a city tour to deal with). Although I can feel that my body is so drained I need to overcome it and just enjoy. I was shocked for 30 minutes after everyone is ready and energize again. Mga nakapag charge ha. Still alive and kicking. That’s what I love about this group, no matter how tired they are they can still manage to smile and enjoy and be full charge again.
We went to a lot of places. Including the mass grave, I was so devastated as I see the lists of the names in there. Those were the people who died in typhoon Yolanda. And then we went to Eva Jocelyn - the ship. Then the San Juanico bridge - Marcos decided to build a bridge for Imelda as a gift (a bridge of love I guess naks). I can’t remember every place that we visited. The last place that I remember was the pasalubong area.
My tita and her boyfriend treated as for dinner because it’s their anniversary - yaayyy!!!! we had a boodle fight. Seafood are my favorite. You can’t go wrong with it and of course, I ate a lot since some of us is not a big fan of seafood - which is sad. But, it’s okay.
It’s our last night here in Tacloban and we had milk tea sesh and more chickahan again before sleeping.
Feb 17, 2019 - last day
I guess we reached the end of our vacay.
P. S. Next adventure, please

5 Tranquil Getaways in the Philippines for a Peaceful Chinese New Year
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two kinds of people, first are those who celebrate their heart out with insane and loud rejoice with their friends and family no matter how much-crowded the place or the surroundings are. The second type of celebration is a more calm and composed way which looks to replenish the mind and body in peace and tranquillity at a place far from the crowded urban streets and markets. Such people are actually looking for something more creative and inspirational that could help in nurturing and rejuvenating the mind for the better. While you can find a lot of options that are renowned crowded destinations but it is rare to find the places which could give the calming and relaxing effect the second type of person would seek.
Here we will check and find out few such isolated islands reprieves that could give the desired calmer setting. As it is the time of Chinese New Year and you could easily manage to get the refreshing trip at an isolated island destination. You can also get some exciting discounts and offers with the hotels.com Promo Code to book a luxury boutique at premium resorts on the lowest prices. These are 5 such islands that not tourist magnets and always make for a quiet and tranquil place perfectly as those calmer people wish for…
Lake Cebu
Tumblr media
Cebu is not as famous as some of the popular tourist destinations of the Philippines such as Boracay and Palawan. Cebu is nothing short of spectacular by any means when it comes to charm and beauty. The place was certainly underrated by the tourism industry’s and there are very few visitors who visit this destination. This does not mean that there is nothing good about this island. It has a whole lot of things that will take your breath away with its locales filled with ubiquitous beauty and striking landscape. One could explore a variety of great sights such as a cluster of waterfalls, clean lakes and rocky terrains and lush green vegetation.
Kalanggaman Island
Tumblr media
This island is a very small territorial land that is stretched along its length but does not has any width as such. It is outrageously marvellous bar of sand that is often referred to as the crown jewel of the region. The supreme exotic sand beach was not popular a few years ago but it has surely gained popularity of late and it is only going to get more prominent tourist destination in near future. Therefore, you got to visit this place now, before it starts to get flocked by visitors in big numbers. You can also find some ultimate luxury resorts to relax and spend time on such an exotic creation of nature. You can book your resort in advance using these Zenrooms promo code and avail the cheapest deals on your bookings.
Catanduanes
Tumblr media
This place is completely out of the blue beauty and the locals have named it as the Land of Howling Winds’ due to the number of typhoons that this area has been known to get affected by. But there should be no doubt about the mind-blowing visual treat that these small islands have with the serenity of mountainous tops followed with the grasslands along the slope. The area is rocky and known for its unique black coloured rocks that many researchers find intriguing.
Mount Pulag
Tumblr media
This is probably the only place on this list that is not associated with the ocean. But have no doubt about its sheer incredible locales which weave magical feel to the landscape view all along these mountains. This is apparently one of the aptest places for hikers and trekkers as they could not only get to walk by the trails but also experience the mesmerizing views on offer throughout the whole trek. Do not miss out on the magical view of the sea of clouds from the top, because it is the most glorious sights that most people would suggest as the most scenic view that they have witnessed in their life.
Manjuyod Sandbar
Tumblr media
This island is known as the Maldives of the Philippines which I believe in itself speaks volumes about the enthralling and captivating divinity of this place. It is one of the best non-crowded beaches in the world where you would have a very refreshing and rejuvenating experience ever. The crystal clear blue coloured water with its shallow depth, serene white sand shores and superb sandbars actually make this place a very familiar setting that matches the Maldives in many aspects. This place is also a popular site for dolphin and whale sighting.

Kalanggaman Island
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peaceful Place. Palompon’s Paradise.
September 2016 a side trip risk going to Samar because we booked this trip during rainy season, so we prayed so much for a safe and wonderful weather for this trip.
Then, God heard us! Thank you!
Kalanggaman Island is one of the most beautiful sandbars in the Philippines. It gained popularity when a cruise ship named MV Europa Cruise Line drop it’s 400 passengers, then those witnesses of island’s beauty was easily passed and publicized the beauty of this island through social medias. The word “langgaman” means bird as it looked like a bird from aerial view with its two sandbars but only one remains after it got hit with typhoon Yolanda. It is located at Palompon, Leyte, composed of white sand, crystal clear blue water, fishes swimming together with you and the most capturing feature is its sandbars.
This is properly cared and maintained by Palompon City Government. It is evident on how they maintained the cleanliness in the island.
Tumblr media
How we went there:
We took a flight of MNL-TAC. Upon Arrival at Daniel Romualdez Airport you have to take a jeep or tricycle that will bring you to the van terminal going to palompon. In our case, we asked a trike to take us to the van terminal we just paid him 100 pesos. We were lucky that we reached the last van trip going to palompon, it took us 4 hours travel time. We arrived at palompon around 9pm and we stayed at Juan Titang’s Beach Resort to spent overnight. Every tourist must contact the Palompon Tourism before getting ahead to inform and make a schedule. They could also prepare a boat for you upon arrival. Below are the contacts that may help you:
+63(053)338-20894/053-55-9731
Daryl Roylo-+63 917-303-7269(67)
053-555-9010
Website: www.palompon-leyte.gov.ph
The next morning before we head to the city hall where we can rent a boat, we bought some cooked foods at the market for our stay in the island. Buy as much as you need, as there were no water, electricity, mobile signals and stores in the island. The market and the port was nearby each other so you won’t have to worry about the distance.
I was impressed on how they preserve rice in a coconut leaves. They called it “puso”. How sweet right?
Tumblr media
Due to we have our own timeline to follow and this is only a side trip, my boyfriend rented a whole boat instead of tagging along with other tourist, so we won’t have to worry considering other’s time. Renting a boat with max of 15 pax costs 3000 back and fort. You will have to tell them what is your best time of departure. To lessen your expenses, you can arrange with other tourist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, our boat ride took around 45 minutes to 1 hour going to island. There was a tour guide that oriented us the do’s and don’ts in the island. They will also give you 2 plastic bags for your garbage, one for biodegradable and the other one is for recyclable. Each boat have 2 gallons of water that you can use for your bath or wash.
Other tips:
Overnight is allowed
You can bring your own food
Yes it is allowed to cook in the island as there were readily available grilling stations
You can take a picture with the sandbar but only with the limited distance as it is dangerous to be near in the end of sandbar where there is strong current that is dangerous for tourists.
Water activities are allowed (Examples are Scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking)
They don’t allowed tourist taking home shells, corals, sands and even fish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kalanggaman is well taken care of that Palompon Government made it more convenient to the tourist to enjoy their stay in the island. They already made projects like a newly renovated CR and wood tents, more cottages. There is also a mini chapel, tree house and school of fish that you may want to visit.
This is indeed a peaceful place.
WHERE TO STAY:
You can either stay day tour to island or rent a tent or bring your own tent if you will stay overnight. There are other resort and mini hotel in the mainland that you can consider.

Virus scare hurts E. Visayas’ tourism businesses
#PHnews: Virus scare hurts E. Visayas’ tourism businesses
TACLOBAN CITY – Tourism business operators in Eastern Visayas are slowly feeling the pinch of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) due to the cancelation of bookings and events.
Oriental Leyte Hotel manager Anito Lanticse said in a meeting on Thursday that at least four meetings and seminars were canceled in February, along with two big events this month, all of which translates into millions of pesos in losses.
Lanticse added that aside from accommodations and event bookings, they also noticed a decline in walk-in diners. The usual number of 60 diners has been halved after the health department confirmed the local transmission of Covid-19.
“Our online booking also dropped from 22 percent to 15 percent,” he told hundreds of tourism-related business managers gathered at the Summit Hotel here.
Oriental Leyte Hotel, located in Palo town, is the only four-star hotel in Eastern Visayas and one of the biggest hotels in the region. It offers not only accommodation but also big halls for meetings, incentives, conferences, and events.
Tour operator Ludette Ruiz of Leyte Travel and Tours said they have been experiencing cancelation of bookings since last month.
Among those that backed out was an expedition cruise ship from Germany with more than 70 passengers scheduled to visit Limasawa Island in February. There were also cancellations of local tours, according to her.
Tourist transport provider Lemuel Honor said car rentals also declined due to the Covid-19.
“This is economically bad to me, considering that I acquired these tourist vans through bank loans. I need to pay the bank every month,” Honor said.
To mitigate the impact of the virus, business owners agreed on uniform promos, packages, and discounts for Eastern Visayas that are well-publicized and coordinated.
Tourism business operators also agreed to reassure the tourist market that all service providers in the region follow the standard sanitation practice, to make them feel safe when they spend their money while visiting the region.
“We’re coming up with this uniform promo rate that the DOT (Department of Tourism) wants us to. A promo package that is attractive for domestic travelers, to encourage them to travel locally instead of going out of the country,” Ruiz said.
The offering of the tour package was in partnership with airline companies, hotels, and the transport sector.
The highlight of the tour package is the visit to Kalanggaman, an islet in Palompon town, known for its nearly 1-km. sandbar and pristine waters.
Ruiz said they will also come up with tour packages for other tourist destinations in the region.
DOT 8 (Eastern Visayas) Director Karina Rosa Tiopes expressed optimism that this problem could be handled efficiently by the region, recalling how businesses recovered after Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
“Despite the fact that we are not among the Top 10 tourist destinations in the country, we are now feeling the effect of the problem as shared by our stakeholders,” Tiopes told reporters after the meeting.
“This may be a different situation, different circumstance, but I know we can always see that light, we can always see that direction on how we can get back on our feet and show that the tourism industry in Eastern Visayas is truly resilient and determine not to wallow in worries and won’t allow the concern to rule our everyday life. We’re determined to make the most out of this.”
She cited the difficulty of quantifying the amount of losses in the tourism sector, but the cancellations on bookings, events, and decline on transport rental already show the reduction in Eastern Visayas’ tourism receipts or income for the first quarter. (PNA)

DIY Cheap Travel Guide to Malapascua and Kalanggaman Island
Tumblr media
Have you ever planned a holiday perfectly and a sequence of unexpected events occurs when you're just about to leave from one place to your dream destination?
It happens! You only have two options, to go home, cry and regret everything, or to book another flight and let things fall into place. What we did was the second option, and the result was a bit stressful, but it was one of my most unforgettable vacation and the best destinations that I have ever visited. I must say that it was worth all the trouble.
Tumblr media
Our starting point is Malapascua. It is a small island that has eight villages located 6.8 kilometers across a narrow strait from Northern Cebu.  Some divers rated Malapascua's dive spots as some of the world's best diving.
How to get to Malapascua
Tumblr media
At the Northern Bus terminal ride a bus going to New Maya port. Travel time is approximately 4 hours. In the New Maya port, you will transfer to a public boat going to Malapascua Island. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes, and the schedule of the first boat trip is 6:00 AM and last is 3:00 PM. If ever you won’t make it on time, you can spend the night at D & N Lounge, or hire a private boat going to the Island.

Budget friendly Accommodation in Malapascua
There are plenty of choices to choose from, and for less hassle, I would recommend that you book your accommodations in advance, so you won’t need to decide where you will stay once you reached the Island. You can book a resort or hotel via TravelBook.
Tumblr media
Since we are on a tight budget, and we already booked our accommodation in advance, we stayed at Romantic Place Guesthouse. They have different types of rooms, and the cheapest is a fan room, and it cost 700/night. It was okay for the price, but it was 10-15 minutes walk from the beach front. The staff was helpful, and the place was quiet. They also have a pool, but we did not attempt to swim.
For a list of budget friendly hotels in Malapascua you can click here.
What to do in Malapascua
Tumblr media
Beach bumming
Visit the Malapascua Lighthouse
Beach sports: volleyball, frisbee
Arrange a trip  to Kalanggaman Island, the organizers usually packaged it with a lunch
Diving/snorkeling: The dive sites of Malapascua and surrounding waters include North Point, Monad Shoal, Gato Island, Lighthouse, Lapus Lapus, Chocolate Island, North Wall, Ka Osting, Sunken Island, Nunez Shoal, Kalanggaman Island, The East Side, The Sand Patch, Twins, House Reef, Maria’s Point, Buhoc Point, Maripipi, Chicken Curry Island, Shore Diving, Doña Marilyn Wreck, Don Macario Wreck, Tapilo Japanese Wreck and Pioneer Japanese Wreck.
Visit Bantayan Island
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since we need some low-cost activities, so we went to visit the Malapascua Lighthouse during our first day, then bummed around the beach until night. We met random locals, and all of them are nice and accommodating.
Our second day is our scheduled trip going to Kalanggaman Island. We were lucky to meet Kuya Glenn and his wife, and he is one of the tour guides who arrange tours around Kalanggaman, Malapascua and Bantayan Islands for a very worthy price. They were both genuinely kind, helpful and understanding. They will make sure that you will have the best time of your life. You can contact him through Facebook, his name is Glenn Isugan or text/call him at 09061421817.

Kalanggaman Island
Kalanggaman belongs to the municipality of Palompon. It is located between Cebu and Leyte, and an hour and a half boat ride from Malapascua. An island well known for its clear water and pure white sand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The island’s length is only 753m, but it was one of the most astonishing and peaceful Island that I have ever been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was a bit surprised when I saw this mini chapel. I couldn’t thank God enough for all the beautiful creations that he made, and that I was able to witness some of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They offer accommodations as well, you can rent a “Tippi house” for 1,500/night, and it is good for two pax. They also offer tent and huts rental.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tourists are allowed to bring their food. Our travel guides prepared a lunch buffet for all of us: our tour cost 950/heat that includes back and forth boat transfer, lunch and entrance fee.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If given a chance to stay here for a long time, I would. I want to watch as each wave overlaps one another, sending the white bubbling crests sliding and covering the shore with the clear fading water. The place was peaceful and quiet. It’s surreal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the best thing about this place is the beautiful sandbar located on both ends of the Island.
Tumblr media
They say that home is not a place, but a feeling. For me, home is where the sand and waves are.
Travel Tips
The island has toilets and a shower area, but the water is limited and comes from the sea.
No ATM machine is available, so bring cash.
There's no electricity on the island to bring flashlights and power banks.
The cellular signal is weak, but you can call / text.
Budget Breakdown
Food and Air transportation not Included.

To the person who turned me down. I thought at first loving you was the worst thing I've done but it turned out to be the best lesson for me to move forward. Thank you for breaking my heart because I found what I really love. Thank you for opening my eyes because I see the real beauty of the world now. Thank you for making me cry because I learned how to laugh. Thank you for turning me down because it made me realize that I need to stand up and get back on track. ✌🏻 (at Kalanggaman Island, Leyte)
