#how to clean the keyboard on my HP laptop

So.
I have had four laptops in my time. I am on my fourth laptop.
The middle two laptops were a joke. I got them because they were HP and my first HP laptop was good enough for me to like the brand to stick with it. But the hard drives kept having issues, and both of them had issues with the hinge popping out of the base. The second HP laptop went because the hinge wouldn't stay glued and my last attempt ended up pinching a wire to the screen. It would give me a cracked screen effect and not work. The third laptop had to have the hard drive replaced a couple of times (as did the second) and when it started showing signs that there was an issue with the hard drive again, I said screw it. I was going with a gaming laptop because with the expenses I was putting into those cheaper laptops just to keep a good hard drive going, I might as well splurge on something that can handle more. Also, light up keyboard.
But my first laptop.
Mind you, I've kept all the laptops. One will be going to my nephew so he can pull it apart and put it back together. The third is used to prop up the fourth, and is kind of a back up I don't want to use because it's so freaking slow.
My first one, though?
I had to get a new laptop. My first laptop is now ten years old. When I replaced it, it was dead pixeling if you didn't have the screen in a very specific spot, the battery was dead so it worked on charger only, the keyboard was in need of a very good clean, and closing and opening the lid was a procedure because the hinge kept getting banged up because of the way I would carry it (it would knock into door frames). It still worked, but it needed to be hooked up to a monitor if you wanted to see what you were doing. It lost the ability to be portable.
Mind you, that's the reason it had to be replaced. It didn't stop working. It just couldn't be moved around anymore. It had to be treated kind of like a desktop.
It runs Windows 8 and hasn't had an update in years. It's probably too old for Edge, so it still has Internet Explorer on it. For some reason, probably because it's old, it won't load up Civ VI. It now has a broken fan it tells you about before you can go to the login screen. Every time you turn it on.
It still runs faster than the third laptop. It's never had a hard drive replaced. It was cheaper than the middle laptops and has more processors. I'm pretty sure the CD drive still works.
A couple of weeks ago, though, I thought I ended its existence.
I accidentally spilled root beer on it. Liquid and sugar- the death of computers, right?
When the spill first occurred, it could turn on, but I was like, "That's because the damage hasn't settled yet." Within a couple of days, I noticed that the charging light was spazzing, as though it wanted to indicate the computer was plugged in and getting power, but it couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Laptop wouldn't turn on.
Ah well, I thought. I have been thinking of getting a tower, so I'd have more space for games and video editing programs and whatnot.
Today, I noticed that the charging light was solidly on.
????
Must be a fluke.
Pressed the on button anyways.
Computer turns on.
EDSR;OGAIHSR;GLAKDN;AOIDRNSG'Asdg????????
Now this is likely a false alarm, since I don't have it plugged into the monitor, so I don't know how far it can actually go and what kind of damage it sustained, but.. . .
IT TURNED ON????
IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD!!!!!
#zombie computer over here showing weaker newer laptops how it's done#what the crap#A lesser computer wouldn't survive half of this thing's been through#if I plug this into the monitor I 100% expect there to be an issue right off the bat

The Shitty Laptop: How Has It not Fucking Died Yet
Aka the story of this piece of shit, how it's doing, and why I want to mail it's life support to the sun. Also, warning for massive walls of text ahead.
The Specs
So, in case you haven't decided to stalk as much of my Tumblr account as you physically can, The Shitty Laptop is a 2016 HP ENVY x360 with an Intel i5 6200U CPU, an Intel HD 520 GPU (that I'm pretty sure is an integrated GPU which is kinda shit but eh), 12 GB of RAM, a 918 GB HDD, and a touchscreen with 10 touch points and some lighter spots around the edges and one that only appears on white for some reason. So in other words, it's actual garbage even disregarding some of the other weird issues I have with it!
Let me break that down: Some Intel i5's are decent, mine absolutely isn't. Integrated graphics are bad because corners have to be cut to keep the CPU small (which is kinda fine for modern shit but this is FAR from modern in terms of gaming). The RAM is fine, it'll run most things but 16 is probably better (Yes yes, bigger number better but I don't need 64 GB of RAM for anything other than opening Steam /s). An 8 year old HDD is REALLY bad though, it's not like, say, your Xbox where you need to replace that things hard drive like a decade ago, but it's an active bottle neck as far as I can tell. I LOVE the fact that this has a touchscreen but the screen issues (Okay, light spots aren't that big of a deal imo but this thing is NOT real color at all bc I opened TF2 and thought that they put a sepia filter over the bw images until the menu screen popped up lmfao) and the fact that this thing is GIANT (picture below) make this thing SUPER awkward to draw with (Not even mentioning the fact that I have no stylus sadly). Also this thing has a couple of dents (pictured below as well) and the left Ctrl key if fucked because I've tried cleaning this things crusty ass keyboard and I broke both of the plastic things on the key so it stopped staying secured (but it WAS fine cus I didn't move this thing around much) but then after the battery swap the thingy above the contact left like how my mom left me and so now the key sits flush with the keyboard and pressing the contact works like 50% of the time :(.
Anyways breaking up the wall of text with a wall of photos
Not copy and pasting the image descriptions here so read those for context or die idk I can't make you do shit lol.
Anyways, if you know fuck all about computers and their components like a goodish chunk of people, then basically nothing above the photos makes any sense to you, so let's look at the practical side of things:
How Shit Runs
Firefox (and any browser as per usual) eats up my resources, mostly my RAM. Roblox depends on the game, but it has crashed about 3 times, twice in TPRR (Please play it if you're into FNaF I beg you) and once in Royale High Campus 3, specifically the entrance, although both games are a bit demanding. Also note that I almost always keep my graphics settings on either the lowest they'll go manually or auto. Here's some 2 games you wouldn't expect an almost 14 year old to play or even know of; Koikatsu Party runs fine, it eats up my GPU and a good chunk of my CPU when in Chara editor, but according to the FPS plugin it runs at around 40-30fps. Koikatsu Sunshine on the other hand runs around 15-20fps in the Chara editor and also eats up my resources. I don't know why there's such a performance discrepancy when they're almost the same exact game, but since I've had Rivatunner running on Sunshine, my CPU hovers around the 170's to low 180's (Fahrenheit) or the mid 70's to low 80's (Celsius), with CPU usage being around 1/3 I think, and GPU probably hanging around over 50% but not over 75% (Source for these numbers: my shitty memory and estimates made from said shitty memory). I'll probably reblog this at some point with better specifics, but while my CPU isn't actually melting, I still like to say it is because I could probably cook something on it. Also, forgot to mention this earlier and feel like mentioning it now: PCGame Benchmark ranked my laptop at 8% which is very terrible.
Why I Want to Kill It With Hammers
Disclaimer: I don't actually want to kill it, but I definitely need a replacement.
I'm gonna be honest, I've been bitching and moaning about this hunk of junk for a while because it gets hot, it's too big, it runs terribly and even blue screened after trying to sign in once (It hung on this picture of seals for a couple of minutes before it decided to blue screen). It also used to be my Aunt's, where she got it for college, mostly used it for the Sims (Which CAS runs fine with higher settings and laptop mode but I currently need to fix my mods), then left it to rot in her closet for a couple of years until around June/July 2021 when she gave it to me as an early 11th birthday present. I, being an idiot 10 year old who didn't know that this was a TERRIBLE idea, decided to keep it plugged in ALL the time, which lead to it having an abysmal battery life which exacerbated the problem, which lead to it giving me the old blinking caps lock issue which rendered it literally useless for a little while until one Wednesday when my grandma brought the issue up to my uncle, a tech enthusiast, while babysitting his kid because he was sick, and he said that he had the right screw (A torx t5 if I remember correctly) so when she came over to see if I wanted food, I decided to go back with her to open this shithead up (Btw I did get sick bc of him, and considering the fact that I'm not hospitalized it wasn't COVID, probably just a head cold). I'll add the photos in a reblog because of the stupid 10 pic limit in the app, but this thing was FILTHY AS FUCK after it was opened. Of course the battery was a complete mess and a free fire hazard, but this thing was just dirty as shit. I forgot to bring my phone so I took photos with my grandma's phone and I learned that only 1/3 of the back vent thingy is functional, with the remaining 2/3 being blocked off for some reason. Also I got a free bootleg classic snes with stuck power buttons and the opening for the controller ports feels AWFUL to open, so that's fun I guess. So we went a week later on Friday to pick it up but when we got home it was still giving the same error. At least it served as a good power bank for my shitty tablet I got for my 8th birthday because my grandma takes away the electronics I usually use at night (Laptop, phone, chromebook) on school nights but the laptop wasn't actually booting and I don't usually use the tablet (It literally has 2gb of RAM, why the fuck would I lmao) so she didn't take away either of those. Anyways the next day we went over, he fixed it with a YouTube tutorial by force rebooting it with the power button (Yes I know that turning it off and on and holding the power button is basic IT knowledge but if my brain doesn't see a straightforward path to whatever I want to do then it gets really confused unless someone else helps) and then it pulled up the updating thing because it was doing that before the old battery decided to go fuck itself. The weirdest thing about the old battery though was that it was providing enough power to make the fan spin and for the caps lock light to blink but apparently not enough to properly boot I guess. Anyways uhh yeah the only thing I've really changed in relation to usage is to unplug it whenever I notice that the battery is full and plug it back in when the battery saver kicks on, it's still sitting on top of a plastic laptop cooler that's too small for it because my grandma forgot how to measure this shit (I love probably toxic fumes coming from the heated plastic/j) that needs cleaning again. Also, I usually keep the external cooler plugged in, but there's only 2 USB ports on this thing and I'd rather die than live the dongle life so it's either I sacrifice that or my wireless mouse and I would rather not navigate through Windows file explorer with ONLY a touch screen.
FAQ Except Nobody Asked These Questions and I Made Them the Fuck Up
Q: What laptop alternatives have you looked at?
A: Whatever is at display at the local Walmart and Best Buy (Though the former has had issues with there not being ANY display laptops), though it's not a "serious" browsing as anything decent (and some things that are absolutely garbage) are almost certainly out of me and my grandma's price range (Thank Charlotte for getting her own fur stick in her intestines twice).
Q: What about used laptops?
A: My first Chromebook used for online learning was a used Chromebook from Best Buy, but the E key force turned it off, a couple of the other keys were also fucked (One of the Ctrl keys also turned it off), And eventually the hinge died and fucked the screen, and I'd likely have to order a used laptop online which means that sellers could lie about it's condition and I don't wanna go through some shitty websites support because I got scammed, also used usually means that it's old, somethings (somewhat commonly) very wrong with it, or both so I think I'll pass. /nm
Q: Why not get a PC
A: Idk, I just prefer the keyboard being attached to the screen.
Q: Why not make The Shitty Laptop not shitty?
A: Because the CPU is soldered to the motherboard which either means get a new motherboard or let my uncle desolder it, and if I do get a new motherboard I'd have to make sure that it fits in the case. And again, this thing has other issues (Fucked screen, fucked left Ctrl key) and I'd just rather get a new one.
Q: Where can I give you money for a new laptop?
A: I do technically have a Patreon account but I haven't set up payment on it so you can't shove your money in my face sadly.
Q: Can I mail you a new laptop?
A: Fuck no, that would require either getting a PO box or giving you my address and if you're not in the immediate area one of us is gonna have to pay for shipping and/or gas.
I ran out of question ideas anyways uhh i took way too long to write this shit out lmao (I think it was around 3 hours as the first photos timestamp is 7:43)

oh no. I’m making a real post
this is what i would call.. a rant. Its main point is about laptops and shit being functional after more than 3 years before I conclude it by telling you to backup your shit.
it’s actually part 1 of 2 because I’m a fucking NERD
essentially, TL;DR the state of laptops and anti-repair sucks and i hate it, technological parts will fail eventually, and it should be easy for the consumer to fix the shit they bought. backup your shit bc things can fail at any moment.
i love computers. i love technology! I love seeing technology grow and people make bigger better things that are cool! yes I do! hell, even ai is interesting! ai art would be objectively fucking fascinating to see a machine learn how to mimic a human action EXCEPT FOR THE MINOR CAVEAT THAT WE, AS HUMANS, HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT STEALING! THAT’S THE ISSUE! and also some other stuff probably but that is SO NOT THE POINT
now that I’ve successfully avoided an ai tangent, let’s move on to what this post IS about
What in the actual FUCK are modern laptops. i don’t WANT a thin, ultra-flimsy piece of shit that is designed to break or be obsolete in less than 10 years
i have a laptop! From what, 2010? 2011? it needs probably more RAM and to be upgraded from windows 7 to 10. is it still usable, today, in 2024 for basic shit: ABSOLUTELY. It has problems, sure, but those are SOLVABLE PROBLEMS. I CAN REPAIR THIS FUCKING LAPTOP. YOU HEAR THAT? I CAN REPAIR IT. probably through finding replacement parts n shit but NOT THE POINT.
it probably has some other stuff that I can fix too! It probably needs basic maintenance because it’s a laptop and it’s never been opened or anything except for the time i went to replug-in the keyboard and maybe.. fucked it up worse. but hey, i tried and uh, probably should’ve done a bit more, but the keyboard was borderline unusable before anyway so if the tried and true unplug and plug back in didn’t work, it was already capital F Fucked. (hp pavilion g6)
oh, and general note: check your fucking batteries. consistently. you do not want to clean a Wii remote that’s had crusty ass AA batteries in it. if it is bigger than it used to be, or otherwise bulging, yes that is bad. the more you know.
2014 or 2015: meet the HP stream 13!
it was probably below average for its time. it sports 2 GB of RAM and I’ve made this fucker bluescreen thrice because of it. its a budget laptop. you want something that can do.. basic shit? perfect. it can do your taxes!
it cannot perfectly display a Google doc over 30 pages though with other things running! it will break shit. can’t blame it though, it’s trying its best. it’s also still running windows 8.1, though, not sure how much this affects it. no i will not be researching it for a tumblr post.
is it still usable: absolutely did you not fucking read. my mom uses it for her taxes! it’s hot pink, how snazzy.
my dad has a computer that’s newer with what’s that… 4 GB of RAM? It can with windows 10 but now has windows 11! and… oh. what’s that? I’m having the same amount of memory issues as A LAPTOP RUNNING WINDOWS 8.1 WITH HALF THE RAM. DID YOU HEAR THAT? HUH? actually i think the issues are WORSE but its not mine so i will not be knowing for certain. but it was at least on par or worse. Someone online told me that 4 GB is not enough for windows 11. i do not completely trust a stranger i met once but.. i can’t see anything in task manager that’s just hogging resources (other than antimalware from windows or whatever the fuck it’s called)
the point of that is: WHAT THE FUCK.
is it usable: yes. it can do work stuff. it can do your taxes. it’s not a snazzy hot pink though.
if you got to this point, I love you.
anyway.
for the record, I think that things should be easily repairable by the person who bought it. replacement parts should be provided and support should be offered for at least 5 years. it should not be more effective for me to buy a new laptop than to upgrade or fix the one i already have. not that I’m saying it’s the case (I’ve yet to do repairs OR upgrades)
but that is a problem. buying aftermarket and cloned versions that you have no real clue the quality of should not be something the consumer has to do to keep the thing working.
technical parts fail all the time. Files can corrupt, things can stop working. back up your shit and NEVER EVER rely on a perfectly working device to stay perfectly working forever. eventually, it will become obsolete. planned or no, eventually, it will have been made for a period of the past and technology advances all the time. games get bigger and beefier, operating systems give you software you didn’t ask for.
and i didn’t even talk about ports or CD drives or- fucking other shit.
#This is a long ass rant. i don’t want to know how long#technology#computers#specifically laptops in this case#im not so sure how many of these problems translate to PCs that aren’t laptops.#next time i talk about windows and design#i think that’s the next rant

Clean laptop keys
Clean laptop keys The keyboard cable is attached with a keyboard clip. When closing, make sure that the white line is covered. The four screws in the battery compartment are shorter than the rest and should not be confused. Remove the covers there, also unscrew the screws there, the upper housing shell must be disconnected, pay attention to the cables there. In case of doubt, you should also do without household cleaners, as these attack the plastic surface. The best way to clean inaccessible areas is with a damp cotton swab. Select the "Keyboard" tab on the left. Switch off the "stroke delay". If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the YouTube comments below the video.
In order to clean or replace the fan, almost the entire device has to be dismantled (with the exception of the display).
You can find these at the bottom left via [Ctrl] and [Shift]. li>
The workmanship and especially the keyboard is very good.
To HP, yes, but only printers and only business models, since we have no problems, we are very satisfied and sometimes reach astronomically high page numbers with problem-free wear and spare parts supply for about ten years. In any case, maintenance-friendly aspects hardly play a role for most buyers.

If you don't think you can, you can also clean the outside of the touchpad and keyboard. Before cleaning, switch off the notebook and remove the battery. With a brush attachment for the vacuum cleaner or a compressed air spray, you can remove coarse dirt and crumbs. As with most other models, Windows 10 was preinstalled as the operating system. This is the professional variant. If you do not like this, you can of course install a different operating system on the computer at any time. Unfortunately, the HP notebook does not offer any special features, but this should also be understandable in this price range. The laptop is very quiet in operation and makes hardly any audible noises, which is very pleasant when working. To do this, simply glue the sticky side of the sticky notes slowly through dust cleaning mud review individual buttons. Thereby, post-it requests are always moved easily.

Replace HP G72 laptop keyboard
Replace HP G72 laptop keyboard - never dealers again). That was a Compaq nx9105. I used it every day. After a year the battery was broken. It could only be started with mains operation and I did that until 2012. So if you want to write and work a lot with it, you should definitely be satisfied here. Only the touchpad is something we find special. Solnage held out. It was a bad buy. But you do a lot of things right and many things wrong in life. I have to revise myself yesterday. If the thermal paste has hardened, for example, it must be renewed urgently so that the heat transfer is guaranteed. Open the control panel and select the category "Time, language and region". By using this form, you consent to the storage and processing of your data by this website. Now you do not know what you have done with this notebook and this battery. Once you have done this, they also hold and are good.
Clean the LCD screen carefully with a soft dry cloth.
I have to revise my comment above.
What works best is permeate!
If you wipe the top of the screen, you shouldn't exert too much pressure to avoid damaging the display underneath.

Disassembling and Cleaning an HP Pavilion dv6000 Series & # 8211; PC Doc on Tour
Disassembling and Cleaning an HP Pavilion dv6000 Series & # 8211; PC Doc on Tour My own notebook, for example, also draws in air on the back and the warm air is emitted on the left side. I think this makes more sense, since the waste heat can flow out unhindered and less dust is drawn into the system. For safety reasons, the power pack must first be unplugged and the battery removed. the plug is clean and dry also the area around the plug. The resistance of the keys is still ok, but could be a little less. If you want to continue using your notebook, connect a USB keyboard to the USB port and restart the computer. It is also recommended to switch off the laptop and remove the battery before cleaning the surfaces. Avoid using hard brushes or sponges when cleaning and use a microfiber cloth instead for cleaning; for heavy soiling, you should use a plastic cleaner. I do not want to advertise only for a specific company here, we have had good experiences with the T, W and P series from Lenovo. These things are almost unbreakable, you can easily replace / replace parts yourself, clean fans, etc. But this way everyone can assess for themselves which restrictions they accept and which ones they avoid. Asus also had a suitable model range with ASUSPRO, but this seems to be running out. Thank goodness, dust cleaning mud review in System is up-to-date, and such a stupid battery that inflates does not disturb support.
But I think even less of “gaming” laptops than of “flat” laptops.
This error manifests itself through unstable operation and crashes with longer runtimes.
Overall, the devices are often indestructible, for example
A so-called dust carpet is not uncommon after a while.
Only 'keep your nerves and calm' helps, if the battery has been puffed up long enough, it will run out of air. Yesterday you will find the best keyboard mouse sets. Simply pull the sticky side of the sticky notes slowly through or over the individual keys. Thereby post-it requests are always moved easily. I had written it in a comment earlier that I was not delivered due to an additional installation part in which the panel was not delivered, that I complained to the management in Germany and that it was answered. In the ideal case, the fan does not draw its fresh air from below, of course you are right. But especially in the lower and middle class this is rather wishful thinking. With expensive and well thought out gaming laptops, however, I have seen such a construction several times. If you do not like this, you can of course install a different operating system on the computer at any time. Unfortunately, the HP notebook does not offer any special features, but this should also be understandable in this price range. The laptop is very quiet in operation and makes hardly any audible noises, which is very pleasant when working.
If a stuck key cannot be released or the key caps on the keyboard cannot be removed, have the computer repaired.
HP notebook keyboards for self-installation are new and used on eBay.
It's all very questionable.
The battery lasts approx.
I have reinstalled it now, and it is better but not perfect.

After cleaning the ventilation slots, use compressed air to remove any contamination in and around these connections. It is best to clean the fan yourself, but caution is advised, because depending on the manufacturer (e.g. if screws are missing), the warranty may be void. If you don't know what to do, don't force anything. The slats are most gently cleaned with a brush and air pressure. Keep your hands off cotton swabs or vacuum cleaners.

let’s look at all the electronics i’m pretty sure are in this room right now + celebrate a small success + complain about how technology was a mistake:
iphone 7 that i literally just replaced, younger than my godson,
ipad mini 2 that should really get a battery replacement/be replaced entirely but eh,
the hp pavilion a friend gave me out of pity after my beloved beautiful 17″ hp envy I bought in 2012 died permanently and dramatically the summer before last. despite a thorough cleaning and replacing the thermal paste (or the forbidden frosting) this pavilion is hilariously prone to overheating and the battery life is about half an hour. it lives on my desk. it doesn’t travel,
i don’t even know how many raspberry pis and arduinos and lilypads are kicking around or how many are functional,
there’s also a dead chromebook unless i gave it to my brother the last time i saw him but i have no memory of this,
come to think of it i haven’t seen my snowball mike since i moved out so he’s probably got that too,
at least two semi-functional-if-it-was-an-emergency shitty android phones kicking around somewhere,
also a couple mice,
one? two? cheap bluetooth keyboards,
and two g3 imac keyboards (bondi blue, if you must know), and the gutted shells of a corresponding monitor and desktop. the monitor will be a cat bed and i might make a sleeper pc out of the desktop case. it’s very pretty is the thing and i am a sucker for translucent plastic, but i would have to do so much custom fitting,
a multimeter i need to steal a new fuse for,
a thousand pairs of earbuds bc i am incapable of throwing any cords out,
an okay headset mike i stole from my old job,
approximately a billion USB sticks of varying size and quality,
a bag of mysterious cords,
a bag of useful cords,
a 1TB external/backup drive,
most importantly, this now operational acer aspire i won in a scholarship last winter.
this laptop’s display has been fucked since i got back to school/the september update and i have not had the brainspace to deal with it until now, as i’m frantically trying to do literally anything else other than finish this incomplete class.
so today, i made sure the nice computer engineering boy who builds PCs will be in the makerspace the same time as me. i let the battery charge overnight, bc it’s been sitting dead since the last time i checked it right before my birthday. i lug TWO laptops and my external drive across campus, all the important electronics i own in one very scary bag. if the display is really and truly borked at least i can snag the documents & pics with one of the eleven billion monitors we have lying around before i ship it off to get it fixed, bc display bullshit is generally beyond my poor amateur abilities. i get to the makerspace, boot it up, am in the middle of saying “yeah every time i turn it on it just flickers gray once” and it boots up perfectly. INFURIATING. but it is lighter and faster and holds a charge, unlike the half-hour battery life of the literally wheezing old hp, and it fits in the laptop pocket in my bag, so i think it’ll go back to being the main laptop after i finish consolidating everything on the pavilion + backup drive to here, and then make a new master backup + thoroughly update the offsite backup instead of just throwing loose docs and photos into my dropbox.
it’s been sitting in a corner updating itself since like 3 PM EST, and it still has a couple more to go, but it’s usable. i think. this is really a pretty good symptom of my general mental state these past six months. the only major electronic i own that has NOT had a severe issue in the past eight months is the elderly ipad mini 2 my aunt gave me. all i do is read comics and terrible romance novels from the library on there so it’s not like it sees hard use to begin with.
before i move, i need to quietly acquire a soldering iron setup and ditch some of this absolute garbage. there is no need to own so many semi-functional to flat out broken things. why am i like this. i do not want to turn into my old engineering boss, whose office is an absolute horror
