destroying the myth once and for all that taylor can’t tour internationally

hi guys! so, this is a post I’ve wanted to make for years to dispel all of the reasons people come up with as to why Taylor doesn’t tour more internationally. It’s going to be a long post, so I’ll include a TL;DR at the end.

1. “It’s not economically feasible for her to do” 

Alright, so first off, Taylor’s networth tops out at $360,000,000. Back in July, Forbes had reported that Taylor had already made 185 million dollars in 2019, and this is before Lover had even been released. (x) To compare, One Direction were worth 215 million around 2015 when they embarked on their final tour that took them to 22 countries. While one can argue that it’s up to the label to pay for tours and booking, it also falls on the artist to say that want to schedule a shows in certain places and talk about how far they’d like their tour to go. On that same note, it can’t be argued that Big Machine simply couldn’t afford to send Taylor to more Asian, European and South American countries because the Red Tour and the Speak Now tour both reached further into Europe and Asia than Taylor’s most recent tours. Whether Taylor herself pays for tours or UMG, it’s absolutely within their wealth to tour internationally. Hopefully, UMG sees Taylor visit more countries with her upcoming tour. Rihanna is also a UMG artist, and her ANTI world tour in 2016 had her embark on 75 shows, 36 were overseas, another UMG artist is Lana Del Rey whose LA to the Moon tour in 2018 had 4 shows in South America, 3 in Oceana and 8 in Europe. So, again, money (be it Taylor’s or her labels) isn’t the issue.

2. “She wouldn’t sell enough tickets, it wouldn’t make sense to come to more countries”

First, let’s take a look at Taylor’s streaming statistics by country, shall we? According to chartmasters.org, Taylor is one of the biggest streaming artists for Vietnam, Pakistan, India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia, among others. So, she isn’t without fans in other countries by any means. Last time Taylor visited South America, it was for a one-off show in Rio de Janeiro, where from what I’ve read was a sold out show. And just listen to that crowd! In fact, Taylor’s non-USA shows actually do incredibly well for a Western artist. The 1989 World tour show in Tokyo saw over 100,000 fans pour into the Tokyo dome two nights in a row, and while the 1989 shows in Cologne in Amsterdam saw smaller numbers, they were still significant in terms of an American artist playing, and absolutely worth doing again. On top of that, Taylor’s fans travel to multiple shows. So, playing one show in London and calling it good for Europe isn’t entirely reasonable when Taylor’s fans will follow her to more show in Europe afterwards. 

3. “If fans want to see Taylor, they can just travel”

If a South American fan wants to see Taylor in concert, they have to travel to the United States. Easier said than done. Let’s say a Brazilian fan wants to see Taylor on tour at her show in LA. Okay, they have to apply for a Visa. There’s costs that come with that. Then book a flight, book boarding in LA, and of course there’s the concert ticket fee and transportation to the stadium. Does that really seem overall fair to you for a fan to have to drain their savings to see their favourite artist just once? Meanwhile, in Europe where Taylor plays one show in London, a fan in, we’ll say Luxembourg, Germany, has to travel 6 hours to get to this show. A fan from Spain has to travel 16 hours unless they choose to take a plane. A fan in Auckland has to take a 3 hour flight to Sydney to attend a show in Australia. Fans in India’s best bet is an 8 hour flight to Japan when she tours there. This is starkly different from the US where Taylor has a show in almost every state, sometimes multiple shows & not only is this hard on international fans’ wallets when  they do attend, but many young fans don’t get a chance at all as they’re too young to travel just for a concert. You’re telling me she can’t go to South America once but she needs to play 3 shows in New Jersey every tour? Lmao.

TL;DR every excuse out there as to why Taylor can’t make her world tours actual world tours is easy to debunk and there’s... just no reason for Taylor to not give her international fans some love.
