How Long Does a Shroom Trip Last? A Complete Guide
A Complete Guide
If you’re considering taking magic mushrooms (commonly known as shrooms), one of the most important questions to ask is, “How long does a shrooms trip last?” Understanding the duration of a shroom trip is key to ensuring you’re prepared and have a positive experience. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the factors that influence the length of a shrooms trip, what you can expect during the journey, and how to manage the experience safely.
What Are Shrooms?
Shrooms, also referred to as magic mushrooms, contain the active compounds psilocybin and psilocin, which cause profound changes in perception, mood, and cognition. These compounds interact with the brain’s serotonin receptors, leading to visual and auditory hallucinations, a sense of time distortion, and deep introspective thoughts. Many people use shrooms for recreational purposes, personal insight, or spiritual experiences.
How Long Does a Shrooms Trip Last?
On average, a typical shrooms trip lasts between 4 and 6 hours. However, the actual duration can vary depending on several factors, such as the dose, type of mushrooms, and the individual’s unique physiology. Let’s break down the key elements that affect how long a shrooms trip lasts.
1. Dosage
The amount of shrooms you consume has a direct impact on how long the trip lasts. Smaller doses (often around 1 gram of dried mushrooms) tend to result in a shorter, more manageable trip, often lasting about 4 to 5 hours. Larger doses, ranging from 3 grams to 5 grams or more, can extend the trip and intensify the effects. With higher doses, you may experience a trip that lasts anywhere from 6 to 8 hours.
It’s essential to be mindful of your dosage, especially if you’re new to magic mushrooms. Taking too much can lead to an overwhelming experience that may last longer than expected, and potentially result in anxiety or confusion.
2. Type of Mushrooms
There are many different species of magic mushrooms, and some have higher concentrations of psilocybin than others. The most commonly consumed variety is Psilocybe cubensis, which typically leads to a trip lasting between 4 to 6 hours. However, more potent strains, such as Psilocybe azurescens or Psilocybe cyanescens, could result in longer-lasting trips, sometimes extending beyond 6 hours.
3. Method of Consumption
How you consume magic mushrooms also affects the trip’s onset and duration. Eating dried mushrooms directly typically leads to a slower onset, with the trip peaking around 1.5 to 2 hours after ingestion and lasting 4 to 6 hours in total.
If you prepare shrooms as a tea or liquid extract, the effects may kick in faster, and the trip may be slightly shorter in duration. This is because the psilocybin is absorbed more quickly into your bloodstream when it’s dissolved in liquid form. Shroom tea may lead to a trip that lasts closer to 3 to 4 hours, with the onset occurring more quickly than when eating whole mushrooms.
4. Individual Factors
Everyone’s body reacts differently to psychedelics, so it’s important to consider personal factors that may influence the length of your trip. For example, metabolism, body weight, mental health, and previous experience with psychedelics all play a role in how long the effects of shrooms last.
Faster Metabolism: Individuals with a faster metabolism tend to feel the effects of shrooms sooner, and their trip may last for a shorter duration.
Tolerance: People who use shrooms regularly may have a higher tolerance, which could lead to a trip that feels less intense or shorter in duration.
Mental State: If you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or in an unfamiliar environment, the trip may feel longer or more intense. Conversely, being in a calm, comfortable setting can make the experience more enjoyable and manageable.
What to Expect During a Shrooms Trip
A shrooms trip is typically divided into three stages: the onset, the peak, and the comedown. Understanding these stages will help you better navigate the experience and know what to expect.
1. Onset (0-60 Minutes)
The onset of a shrooms trip usually begins around 20 to 40 minutes after ingestion. During this time, you might feel a mild shift in perception, a slight increase in energy, or a sense of euphoria. Physical sensations may change, with users describing a tingling feeling or heightened awareness of their surroundings.
In this stage, your thoughts may start to feel different, and you might notice subtle visual distortions. Expect the onset to last about 30 to 60 minutes, during which the trip will gradually intensify.
2. Peak (1-3 Hours)
The peak of the shrooms trip typically occurs 1 to 2 hours after ingestion. During this time, the effects are the most intense. Visual and auditory hallucinations are common—colors may appear brighter, patterns may move, and everyday objects may seem distorted. You might also experience changes in your thinking, emotions, and sense of time.
For many people, the peak is the most profound part of the trip. The intensity can be overwhelming, especially with higher doses, but it is also the phase where users report having deep, introspective thoughts or experiencing a sense of spiritual awakening.
3. Come Down (3-6 Hours)
After the peak, the effects of the shrooms gradually begin to subside, and you enter the comedown phase. During this phase, the intensity of the trip lessens, and you may feel more grounded. Some users report feeling tired, reflective, or even peaceful as they come down from the high.
The comedown can last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, depending on the dose and individual factors. While the trip itself may be over, some people still experience lingering effects, such as heightened creativity or a sense of calm, for hours after the main effects have worn off.
How to Manage the Duration of a Shrooms Trip
If you’re wondering how to manage the length of your trip, here are a few helpful tips:
Start with a Low Dose: If it’s your first time using shrooms, it’s best to start with a low dose (1 gram or less) to gauge how your body reacts. Lower doses typically result in shorter trips, and you can always adjust for future experiences.
Be in a Comfortable Setting: Your environment plays a significant role in the overall experience. Being in a familiar, calm setting can help reduce anxiety and make the trip more enjoyable.
Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks: Drinking water, sitting or lying down, and having a light snack can help you feel more comfortable and hydrated during the trip. Avoiding heavy meals before your trip can also prevent nausea.
Have a Trip Sitter: If you’re new to shrooms or concerned about the experience, having a trusted trip sitter can help guide you through the journey. A sitter can provide reassurance and keep you safe in case the trip becomes overwhelming.

The absolute worst and ironically best turn of events happened to me in 2022 when my abuser started cheating on me. After investing a decade into molding me into the ideal victim who would never speak against him, he got bored with it. I didn't fight back anymore. I absorbed daily verbal attacks. The random violence he would perpetrate didn't spark a reaction. I would just accept it. I was numb. I was walled off. I had internalized the abuse so much and my depression fed into it.
He wanted to get caught. He didn't hide it at all and he let my paranoia over not being good enough (which he practically had told me daily for years) build and build until I was questioning him. He would reassure me he wasn't cheating and I think the way I was constantly anxious was fun for him. Then he essentially left hard evidence out so I'd find it. He wanted to break me and he did.
My multiple, rapid fire suicide attempts after finding out were largely due to the state of psychosis I was in. My 10 day stay in a psych facility did nothing to assist with my psychosis. It then persisted with varying amounts of lucidity for the next month, month and half that my abuser maintained contact with me after I was released into the care of my parents.
In a lot of ways, psychosis is a lot easier to live with than high reactivity PTSD. My path to mental health management post spousal abandonment in a psych facility has had greater volatility than the crypto market. Compulsive hypersexuality as a near impossible to control symptom of my PTSD was actively tearing my life apart at points. What I didn't expect as much was the transference of reactivity onto hobbies, places, and even people that were a major part of my life pre-psychosis.
I dated someone, who retrospectively a totally sane me would've only been friends with, for about a year and he introduced me to psilocybin. Which is something I have gained a tremendous amount of healing from. I dated someone, who retrospectively I just should've been fuck buddies with, for about 6 months who inadvertently helped me break my codependence. I met another abusive narcissist who love-bombed me and then dropped me when he decided to find another girl to cheat on his fiancée with. Which definitely launched me into a short period of psychosis and a longer period of out of control hypersexual compulsions, but which I didn't take lying down and did in fact do my best to ruin his life by contacting the "ex-girlfriend I'm roommates with" aka, fiancée.
You find out who you have real long-term compatibility with in quite a jarring way when you are at times going completely off the rails as a former abuse victim trying to restart their life. Some friendships go by the wayside as you unlearn personality mirroring and people discover they don't have as much in common with you. Others go down in flames mired by an inability to reconcile with the way severe trauma does not create a healthy person. New friendships emerge as you discover there exist people who resonate with those parts of your personality you thought were unlikeable, unlovable.
This time last year, I was about to experience a relapse of sorts. I got wrapped up with another abuser and the way that would end was far too familiar. I felt like I was reliving the night I was taken to the psych facility when I learned the truth of who that person was. I became suicidal and in trying to prevent myself from acting on that and take care of myself, I lost my job. A job I'd held for about a year and had really enjoyed.
At full speed, I went crashing into compulsive behaviors I knew would destroy me. I was sexually assaulted. I was cultivating a full "social calendar" and using sex to numb myself. I felt like it was all I had to offer anyway.
My low point was also miraculously how I met my other half. I was laying in the bed, well floor mattress, of a two strike violent felon. In the unfinished basement of his NA sponsor's house while he was on the phone with his drunk alcoholic ex-girlfriend. I opened Tinder and started swiping.
I had no idea the sad looking Navy boy I matched with would make me feel like I had reunited with the missing part of my soul. We married within 10 days of meeting, but kept that a secret for about a month after he'd left for his homeport.
For the first 18 year of my life, the thing that kept me alive was horses. During the decade I suffered physical, verbal, emotional, and sexual abuse it was my involvement with horses that kept me sane. Realizing I had to give up that part of who I was in order to start my new life has been incredibly painful. I don't know who I am without horses. I don't know how to keep my mental health in check without horses. I feel such immense guilt over failing to hold on to my dream horse and give her the life I imagined I could. I breakdown and I cry over the loss of Mia, the struggles but ultimately joy I found in Chevy, and just the compounding list of reasons Mitzy and I weren't ever meant to be.
The thing is, I would and will sacrifice anything for that sad looking Navy boy who turned out to be the most beautiful thing that's ever happened to me. The sweet southern gentleman who risked pneumonia while I drug him through every inch of my local zoo and had the courage to tell me about all the worst parts of himself without knowing if I'd accept them. The man I describe to our friends as "me but with a penis" who in turn reminds everyone I'm just "him with a vagina".
I know I haven't permanently closed the chapter of my life as an equestrian. I know because my husband reminds me when I'm breaking down in the shower about how lost I feel without horses that being without them is temporary. It's painful to be without something that I've felt has so defined me and that has been so instrumental in how I've managed my mental health.
Learning to navigate life as a military spouse, living so far from my family and my best friends (who so graciously kept my marriage a secret until I was ready to announce it), figuring out how to survive underways and an eventual deployment sucks so much ass now.
This period of feeling lost will pass.
One day I will again be popping over logs, hacking bareback, bemoaning the parts of a dressage test I'm struggling with, going foxhunting, midfielding in polocrosse, riding aside, and considering 3ft to be a big jump with a non-conventionally bred horse I love for its willingness to try anything with me.

Buy LSD. LSD is an initialism of the German chemical name “lysergic Sauer diethylamide”, which is “lysergic acid diethylamide” in English.
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), also known as “acid,” belongs to a class of drugs known as hallucinogens, which distort perceptions of reality. LSD is the most potent mood- and perception-altering drug known: doses as small as 30 micrograms can produce effects lasting six to 12 hours.
Effect Of LSD
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) has many side effects, several of which are related to the way that it affects the serotonin system in the brain. Here are some of the physical side effects of LSD:
-LSD dissolves one’s sense of self, in doing so it alters perception resulting in a loss of sense of time, increased awareness of details that can cross the senses.
-Psychologically speaking, it makes you see the world from a completely different lens, and that memory or understanding if you will, never goes away.
-LSD can also amplify or awaken dormant mental illnesses
The effects of LSD are typically felt around 20 to 45 after taking the drug and the trip or high can last between six to eight hours on average.
Depending on your tolerance, a typical dose of LSD is between 20 and 150 micrograms. Because of its extreme potency, you need only a small amount to experience its mind-altering effects. The effects usually begin 30 to 90 minutes after ingestion. Onset can vary depending on whether you’ve taken other substances or not, food in your stomach, and/or how long it has been since you last ate.
There are so many types of psychedelics but the most common used psychedelics are:
-LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) is made from a substance found in ergot, which is a fungus that infects rye.
-Psilocybin is a naturally occurring substance found in mushrooms and is found in many parts of the world.
-Mescaline is derived from the Mexican peyote and San Pedro cactus and produces similar effects to LSD.
-DMT (Dimethyltryptamine) is structurally similar to psilocin, an alkaloid found in psilocybin mushrooms. It can be synthesized in the laboratory but is also a naturally occurring component of several plants. What is Acid?
Key Terms of LSD for Sale
Acid — Common street name for LSD.
Cerebral cortex — Brain region responsible for reasoning, mood, and perception.
Hallucinogen — A drug that distorts sensory perceptions and disturbs emotion, judgment, and memory.
Hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD) — the recurrence of LSD effects after the drug experience has ended.
Locus cerulean — Brain region that processes sensory signals from all areas of the body.
Neurotransmitter — Chemical compound in the brain that transmits signals from one nerve cell to another.
Serotonin — A neurotransmitter that modulates the actions of other neurotransmitters in the brain.
According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN), the number of LSD-related hospital emergencies is low compared to those related to cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, and other illicit drugs. One reason for this trend may be that LSD currently sold on the black market is less potent than in the past. LSD does strengths tend to range from 20 to 80 micrograms today, compared to 100 to 200 micrograms reported during the 1960s and early 1970s.

Breaking the continuum of PTSD
What breaks the continuim of the trauma response from the past? Peyote? Psycilocybin? Ketamine? Counseling? Reading about PTSD? Ibuprofen? Social Media? Alcohol? Heroin? Fentanyl? THC? Gambling? Promiscuous sex? Time?
I mentioned Ibuprofen because I’d recently read that it is considered for emotional pain. Pain, as it is recorded in the brain, does not distinguish between physical or emotional pain. The neural pathways, areas of the brain, that record physical pain are also activated from emotional pain. When I read that, I thought, “wow, I’m in luck,” and I went out and bought some. (Not really sure if it worked for me).
I mentioned Ketamine because I thought this would also emancipate me from my emotional pain caused by my PTSD. I cancelled a treatment when I realized that I’d be sitting in a room, by myself, on an IV drip,(administered by a Nurse Practitioner.) This was not how I wanted to experience it.
I mentioned Peyote and psilocybin because psychedelics have been helpful for me. I don’t recommend these because the “set” and the “setting” are very important factors to consider and realize first. It’s not for everyone. People metabolize drugs differently. If you go into a session depressed, sad, angry, etc. a psychedelic is not a magic carpet ride. Your guide needs to be present and intent of use needs to be in place. Timothy Leary initiated pioneering work in the field of using a psychedelic (LSD) for therapeutic use. He actually proved it to be the most effective method/process to reduce recidivism amongst repeat offenders in prisons. It worked. But during that time, the Medical Students at Harvard, who were experiencing and utilizing LSD in the clinical studies Leary was developing, started having too much fun with it, shared it with friends, andword got out. Leary was fired and his already successful program ended. (A curious note; At that time, only two professors had ever been dismissed (fired) from Harvard; Timothy Leary and Ralph Waldo Emerson. (The latter for not toting the ecclesiastical dictates of Harvard’s theology biases.) Read the first three chapters of Leary’s autobiography, Flashbacks. Instead of listening to Leary about how to reduce prisoner recidivism, instead the country just built bigger prisons. And 60 years later….more and bigger prisons.
Also, MDMA (ecstasy) have been absolutely proven to be therapeutically beneficial. I could write more about this but it is easier for the reader to google it, it’s benifits, and why it’s illegality impacts it’s use. It really is a shame, and stain against psychiatric treatment protocols in mainstream healthcare. Another issue is time; The session lasts too long for an HMO to justify it’s use. Time is money, after all.
All the other’s I mentioned are coping mechanisms that can get you through a dark and stormy night.

Emerging Therapies in the Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Treatment Market

Introduction: As the understanding of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) deepens, the treatment landscape continues to evolve with the development of emerging therapies. These innovative approaches offer hope for patients who have not responded well to conventional treatments or are seeking more personalized solutions. In this blog, we will explore some of the promising emerging therapies that are transforming the Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Treatment Market.
1. _Ketamine and Esketamine: A New Hope: Ketamine and its derivative, Esketamine, have emerged as potential game-changers in the Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Treatment Market. Both drugs belong to the class of NMDA receptor antagonists and work differently from traditional antidepressants. They act rapidly, often providing relief within hours to days, compared to the weeks required for conventional treatments. Ketamine and Esketamine are particularly beneficial for individuals with treatment-resistant depression, offering a glimmer of hope to those who have not experienced relief from other medications. The development of intranasal Esketamine has made this treatment more accessible, revolutionizing the approach to MDD management.
2. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS): Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. This therapy has shown promise as a safe and effective option for MDD treatment, especially for patients who have not responded well to antidepressant medications. TMS is well-tolerated and does not require anesthesia, making it a viable alternative for individuals seeking non-pharmacological interventions. The growing popularity of TMS has led to the development of more advanced TMS devices, improving treatment outcomes and expanding its use in various healthcare settings.
3. Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy: Research into psychedelic substances has shown intriguing potential for managing Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Treatment Market . Psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, has been studied in conjunction with psychotherapy in a controlled clinical setting. Psilocybin-assisted therapy aims to provide a transformative and introspective experience for patients, leading to a shift in perception and emotional processing. Early studies suggest that psilocybin-assisted therapy can have profound and lasting effects on mood and mental well-being, but further research is necessary to understand its long-term benefits and safety.
4. Digital Therapeutics and Mobile Apps: The integration of digital technology in MDD treatment has opened new avenues for patient support and self-management. Digital therapeutics and mobile apps offer personalized interventions, cognitive-behavioral techniques, mindfulness exercises, and mood tracking tools to individuals with MDD. These applications empower patients to actively participate in their treatment journey and improve treatment adherence. Additionally, digital therapeutics can facilitate remote care, providing access to therapy resources and support even in geographically underserved areas.
The Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) Treatment Market is witnessing a wave of emerging therapies that are revolutionizing how depression is managed. Ketamine and Esketamine offer rapid relief, TMS provides a non-invasive option, psilocybin-assisted therapy explores new horizons, and digital therapeutics empower patients to take control of their well-being. As research and development continue in this field, these emerging therapies hold the promise of transforming the lives of millions of individuals living with MDD.

The recent burst of generative artificial intelligence is forcing the US Senate into a debate lawmakers have put off for years: privacy reform.
While Americans’ personal data is a commodity sold, traded, mined, and even “recycled,” passing from second party to third party to digital banana stand, some senators believe your personal data is siloed off from the earth-altering AI work those companies, like OpenAI and Google, are testing, tweaking, and deploying daily.
“They want to predict the future for purposes of marketing and selling products, and that’s already there,” says Florida Republican Marco Rubio, the vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, dismissing the need for an overhaul of federal privacy laws.
Rubio is far from an outlier. Ted Cruz of Texas, the top Republican on the Senate Commerce Committee, agrees. “I think if the Democrats push through restrictions on innovation and AI, it would be disastrous for America,” Cruz says. If the United States doesn’t lead, goes the GOP’s stock argument, an adversarial nation (read: China) will.
Still, there’s fear about AI’s potential to dramatically alter the world, which has kept senators mostly united over the need to do something. But with lawmakers beginning to write AI-related legislation, old and unresolved privacy debates are proving a major impediment—and there’s little room for error on the tightrope of bipartisanship in today’s Washington.
In our rapidly evolving world, Congress must debate the past, even as AI is statistically generating our future.
Lesson Not Learned
Before Congress left Washington for a month-long August recess, senators held their third and final all-senators AI briefing. Although not all 100 senators attended, the bipartisan, closed-door AI briefings were intended to provide a baseline framework for understanding artificial intelligence. If nothing else, the briefings surely got senators talking about AI. Almost instantly, the AI chatter resurrected data privacy debates that had died in each recent congressional session.
Rubio’s gut reaction is that he’s fine with American tech companies running unregulated through the frontiers of AI as they create even newer frontiers. Commerce, he says, is commerce. “They’ll take the data to try to predict what you’re going to buy tomorrow or where you want to travel to tomorrow or what you want to look at. It already does,” Rubio says. “We still have laws that govern things like privacy and property rights and all kinds of [areas]. Certainly, those things would still be prohibited whether it’s a human or a machine that’s violating it.”
Senators like Rubio and Cruz appear to forget what happened the last time Congress decided to just let the tech industry run wild. Google swallowed our ability to find information while collecting every bit of personal data it could. Facebook and Twitter created dossiers on everyone who touched them before dictating who and what can be said on social media. And Amazon consumed nearly 40 percent of the retail world (along with our data) while expanding into cloud storage, entertainment, satellite internet, and a bazillion other markets.
In short, the tentacles of US tech firms are everywhere—vaccines, food, cancer research, psilocybin centers, criminal justice reform, homelessness—the list could reach the moon. (Speaking of the moon, how could we forget commercial spaceflight?) And the AI boom is likely to further expand tech firms’ power and riches. Yet on Capitol Hill, some powerful Republicans are focused on one goal: ensuring American AI dominance.
On this front, Rubio generally sees any new regulation as a needless-to-harmful constraint on US technology giants and their AI experiments. One near-universal takeaway from the briefings is that America can’t afford to be number two.
“You’re dealing with a technology that knows no national borders, so even if we write laws that say a company can’t do that in America, it doesn’t mean some company in some other part of the world or some government in other parts of the world won’t innovate that, and use it, and deploy it against the US,” Rubio says.
Senator Mike Rounds, a South Dakota Republican and one of four senators who spearheaded the all-senators briefings, echoes this sentiment. “AI is gonna advance regardless of whether it happens here in the United States or elsewhere. We have to be advancing faster than our adversaries,” he says. “We have to advance it, but we also want to put in appropriate safeguards.”
Specifics remain impossible to pin down in most corners of the Capitol. Lawmakers are still taking in the potential of new language learning models, like ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, even as AI laps us all. Rounds maintains an openness to nebulous new parameters, on the one hand, but in a critical, fatherly way, he also faults Americans for signing over our data privacy.
“Here’s the deal, we voluntarily give it away,” Rounds says. “People don’t seem to realize that when they sign these agreements, they’re giving up a lot of their personal information.”
Recklessly handing over our data might be fine if it’s American tech companies that are grabbing it. But Rounds, like most lawmakers, decries the idea of giving our private data to Chinese-owned TikTok. It’s the one privacy matter everyone can agree on—excluding, perhaps, the 150 million US-based users the company claims to have.
“There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of concern about it by a significant amount of the American public, which is unfortunate because that’s helping to create the databases that eventually may be used against us,” Rounds says.
While Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and the others tried to steer the conversation around artificial intelligence clear of politics, AI now seems lodged in the age-old partisan debate that pits laissez-faire capitalism against Big Brother, which New Mexico Democrat Martin Heinrich says is regrettably shortsighted.
“We failed to regulate the internet when it was regulatable, and Republicans and Democrats today—for the most part—are going, ‘Holy cow, we subjected our entire teenage population to this experiment, and it’s not serving us well.’ So I just don't think it’s helpful to get hardened,” Heinrich says.
It’s not just Democrats who are voicing concern. There are some outspoken privacy hawks in the GOP, chief among them Senator Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican. When asked about Cruz and Rubio’s positions—that encroaching on the Silicon Valley data mining model could imperil America’s AI future—Hawley laughs.
“Ha. I don’t know that we’re gonna be able to hermetically seal it like that,” Hawleys says, before laughing uproariously. “This idea that we can just trust Google and Meta to be good actors, you know—not gonna happen.”
While his colleagues are almost solely focused on America’s adversaries, Hawley—who may be China’s biggest critic in the Senate—is unsettled by the thought of American tech companies plugging your private data into their AI language learning models right now.
“We need to just ban that. That’s the way to do it. Yeah, we just say no—in federal law,” Hawley says. “They wouldn’t let you sue if they didn’t. That’s the way to fix that, in my view.”
That’s Hawley’s number one priority. He’s the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology, and the Law and teamed up with its chair, Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, in introducing the No Section 230 Immunity for AI Act.
The bipartisan pair say the legislation is essential because it explicitly tacks an AI clause onto Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which shields online companies from liability for anything their users post on their platforms. While both senators have spent years trying to overhaul Section 230, they say there’s no time to waste in updating it to protect consumers from generative AI-powered deepfakes.
Point of No Return
This summer’s AI briefings also instilled the need for speed, and senators are finally moving—if at senatorially turtle-like speeds.
Before lawmakers left town for the summer, they passed their first generative AI amendments, tacking them onto the annual, must-pass National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). One such measure requires the Department of Defense to set up a “bug bounty program” so Pentagon officials can test American-made AI for security flaws.
Senators, led by Schumer, also tucked a nondefense AI amendment into their version of the defense bill, which still must be reconciled with the House version. It mandates that any AI “gap in knowledge” from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, National Credit Union Administration, or Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection must be reported to Congress.
Many Democrats agree with the GOP on the need to lead the AI race, though the details are devilish. On the left, the prescription is one of those much-decried government ones.
“We cannot put ourselves at a disadvantage compared to China or other adversaries or competitors. But just like in atomic energy, there needs to be some kind of international structure,” Blumenthal says.
He says that means international agreements, multilateral trust, and “one central agency or office that is responsible for AI and can conduct negotiations with other countries.”
Behind closed doors, senators were warned about an AI fiscal cliff on the horizon, and many seem acutely on edge over how easy replicating AI is now and will be tomorrow. “One of the things that was discussed—I don’t think it’s classified in any way—is, like in almost all technology, the price is going to come down dramatically,” says Senator John Hickenlooper, a Colorado Democrat. “Look at how many billionaires we have, they can create their own large language models.”
Senators are now engaged in many side debates, with a few focused on the technology’s impact on democracy.
“Frankly, I personally haven’t quite figured out what we ought to do,” says Senator Mazie Hirono, a Hawaii Democrat. “But you can see the damage that can be done in the political arena, and I think that there should be some disclosure requirements in the political arena.”
Others are looking at potential disclosure requirements, especially when it comes to AI making decisions on loans, insurance applications, and other consequential matters.
“If a decision is made about you based on AI making the decision, whether it’s an insurance company or your own government, you have a right to be able to know what’s the data set that’s behind that, whether it’s a valid data set,” says Senator James Lankford, an Oklahoma Republican. “And so that’s a bigger challenge.”
Some newer, younger senators left the private AI briefings more unsettled than when they entered. “The lack of specific detail in some of these briefings makes me a little bit worried about what both the Senate and maybe the Department of Defense know about where we are on AI relative to other countries,” says Republican JD Vance, the freshman senator from Ohio. “It’s not clear if they’re so substance-less because they think that you’re stupid or because they’re hiding something.”
While the Senate is now demanding an AI health checkup from an array of federal agencies, lawmakers are also getting in the weeds on their specific committees and hashing out targeted AI proposals.
There’s broad agreement that there’s no going back. “One thing I’m certain of is I know of no technological advance in human history that we’ve been able to roll back. It’s going to happen,” Rubio says. “The question is, how do we build guardrails and practices around it so that we can maximize its benefits and diminish its harms?”
The Senate, meanwhile, can’t go forward without first taking steps back—to the debate Congress never had. For Senators Hawley and Blumenthal, AI safeguards start with overhauling Section 230. “You’ve got to put that there, and then you can build around that,” Hawley says. “If people don’t have the right, you can tell them, ‘don’t use your data stores for generative AI,’ but then if they do it anyway, it’s like what, the FTC fines them $1 million? No, you have to let people sue and do class actions. Then they pay attention.”

HOW LONG DO SHROOMS STAY IN YOUR SYSTEM?
Magic mushrooms, also known as “shrooms,” have been used for centuries for their hallucinogenic properties. These mushrooms contain a psychoactive compound called psilocybin, which can induce profound alterations in perception, cognition, and mood. If you’re considering using magic mushrooms or have recently consumed them, you might be wondering how long does shingles last in your system.
The duration that shrooms remain detectable in the body can vary depending on several factors, such as the individual’s metabolism, dosage, frequency of use, and the type of drug test employed for detection. Understanding the timeframe during which psilocybin can be detected in the body can be helpful for individuals concerned about drug screenings or seeking a better grasp of the drug’s effects.

Do you think making everybody do mushrooms would fix anything?
I dont think drugs would fix everyones problems. Psilocybin is an interesting compound and i definately think it can have usages as a theraputic medication for a wide variety of mental health issues, it isn't a cureall. I at somepoint should absolutely look more into what research is being done. The last thing I remember seeing anything about was "The Hero's Dose" which was about an extremely high dosage that if you prepare yourself for, you have a 6 hour long high that allows you to deeply explore and reprogram yourself. It is a HIGHLY supervised event and done under extremely specific conditions so i wouldn't reccomend going out and getting a shit ton of mushrooms from some dealer who you dont know how potent their shit is. I will however say a nice mushroom pizza DOES fix a bad day for me :3

Perfuma: this is a mushroom that grows naturally in the woods that makes you trip balls
Entrapta: oh nice, I figured out how to make something that does that in a lab! the dosage is more predictable and it lasts twice as long. but it is a process to make it.
Literally just the two of them trading psilocybin mushrooms and LSD
ALSO AHAHAH I said this ages ago because of the 60's au fic I'm writing, but:
so a common experience on a high-enough dose of LSD is sense of connection/one-ness with the universe, yeah? And people generally describe this as a good experience.
But imagine Catra at any point in s3 or s4 on LSD and having to feel that. She would HATE IT SO MUCH and for some reason that's hilarious to me???
LSD: You are the universe experiencing existence! There is nothing that separates you from all other living things! :D
Catra: *shrieking in horror*
how I'm dealing with being worried about the election and unable to sleep:
did an edible
watching fave bits of she-ra
i swear i'm not gonna make long-ass screenshot posts this time okay
i'm just. amused at myself. bc i had a fucking. physical reaction to her in that god damned jacket okay nnhghgh
#spop#also imagine Perfuma saying 'trip balls' it is very funny#maybe that's just me#...I nearly did make Entrapta a manufacturer of LSD in that fic#my posts

Shades of grey, chapter 17 - High on Leo
warnings: 18+, graphic and mental effects of drugs use. DO NOT use drugs unsupervised! Do not use drugs when it’s illegal in your country!
@leosgirl82 @thelaundrybitch @roxosupreme @mysticboombox @turtle-babe83 @angelcatlowyn @raisin-shell @donniesdove @pheradream15 @sewerninno
Hee lovelies. New chapter and it’s my birthday. Leveling up to 40 today!
“I'm going to shower, feel free to join me”, she said to no one in particular. 'I really need to get this fart smell out of my hair..' she thought, still a bit disgusted. After she grabbed clean clothes from her room she walked towards the bathroom and she felt weird, like a little out of her body. Shrugging she pushed the feeling aside.
Standing under a nice warm shower she felt it again and it changed to a different feeling. Now she recognized it; it was the lift-off feeling when she used some drugs, the psilocybine kind of drugs. Although she only had good trips on that sclerotia, she was wondering from what substance she started tripping now. 'I was sober, I didn't eat or drink anything since dinner last night. I only had a few drops of Leo's blood..' Her eyes shot wide open in that realization. 'How ironic, I'm tripping on Leo's blood while he disapproves drug use..' she giggled. And laughed.. and laughed.. and laughed...
“Hey Ishtar, can you fill us in on your joke? So we can laugh too?” asked Mickey from the shower next to her. “I feel a bit left out.”
“Hahahahahaha...”
“Come on, spill it!” asked Mickey again.
Laughing out loud she got down on her knees unable to stand up straight anymore and kept laughing.
“Uhm Donnie, I think we might need your doctor skills here..” Raph said. He crawled in front of her and tried to get her attention. “Do you feel okay?”
“I'm feeling fiiineeeee...” she snickered.
Raph looked at Donny, “something is wrong.”
“Yes, I can see that. Let me try. Earth to Ishtar, can you tell me what's going on?”
She burst in laughter again.
“Ishtar, are you high on something?”
“Yup.. hahahahahahaha...”
Leonardo looked both worried and disapproving. “Ask her what she took”, he said with crossed arms and his signature stern look. Donnie repeated the question.
“Hahahahahaha... Leo's blood is a drug... hahahahahaha..”
“What?!”
“What else can it be?” she laughed. “Think about it Donnie.”
“Oh shell..” Donnie's mind was racing a mile per second. “Ishtar, do you recognize the effects, to which drug do these effects belong?”
“Psylocybine...”she snorted.
“Okay.. interesting..” Donnie said lost in thought.
Although Mickey had seen this look on Donnie's face many times before, it did worry him a little. “Is this contagious? Donnie? Talk to me, don't act so scary”, he whimpered.
“It's okay Mickey, this is not contagious. I was just thinking about magic truffels. That's the kind of drugs Ishtar is revering to.”
“Well, care to inform us too?” Leo said. “How can we help her get rid of these effects?”
Donnie sighed and tried again. “If she had taken the normal stuff, I only have to give her some sugar and the effects were off quickly.”
“The easiest way is to let her ride it out. I don't know how to stop this. If she just took the normal drug..”
“.. plant medicine..” interrupted Ishtar.
“Crash land back on earth you mean! Please don't!” Ishtar said. She had closed her eyes and was swaying a little. She also had a euphoric smile on her face.
“I won't Ishtar, don't worry.” He directed the next words to his brothers. “The effects may be the same, but what caused it, isn't. If I really need to end her trip, I need to do some research, draw some blood. All that might take the same amount of time for her trip in total. And there may also be a chance she'll get into a bad trip if I do the tests on her. I really would like to avoid that. Best to keep our emotions in check as well. Negative emotions can trigger her into a bad trip too.”
“Tell me Donnie, how long does her trip last?” Leo asked.
“There are several kind of stages. Ishtar experienced the familiar lift-off and the giggles. When did you feel the first effects, Ishtar?”
“When I waaalked.. to-o.. the.. ssshooowersssss..” she slurred.
“Okay, and now you're already in the slow speech stage. By my calculations, it will wear off in two hours.”
“Ssshortesst trii-P everr..”
“Wow, how deep is she in it?” asked Raphael in amazement.
“No more than when she had the giggles. I suggest we get her dressed and keep her in the living room until all the effects wear off. Oh, and mind your words guys. Even though her speech is slow, she can still hear and think on normal speed. Am I right, Ishtar?”
Nodding she only said “yup” and giggled at the sound she made.
“Do you mind we get you dressed?” asked Leonardo.
“Nooo..”
“Do you want something to eat?” asked Michaelangelo.
“Nooooo...”
“Do you..” started Raphael, but Ishtar broke in.
“No, noo.. no no no no... no no no no.. no no there's no limit..” she sang and laughed again.
“Ain't she a sight?” Raph said. “Maybe we should film her..”
“Yuou.. sshould..d.. wwaait... until.. the... next-t phase..” Ishtar slurred.
“Why?” Raph asked while he escorted her to the couch.
“Because that phase is the interesting one. It's when the brain works together with different areas, which can lead to fantastic insights, creativity, inventions and even genius.” Donnie spoke enthusiastic.
Bending down towards Ishtar, Raphael asked her, “even more genius than Donnie is already?”
“... possibly..” she said with lazy eyes.
“I like to see that!” Raph said. “Do you experience different colors too? Do you see things flying around?”
“No.. moooore.. thaaan.. uussuual,” she grinned.
'Wait, what? Normally you see things flying around too?' Raph thought.
“It iiissss... mooore.. a iinteeernaaaal ex..peeee...riencccee. But the musssic in my head-d tastess great.”
Leonardo and Raphael looked dumbstruck. “How can you taste music?” Leo asked. “And why is she so calm with these effects?”
“Tasting music isn't that hard, Leo” Ishtar said, who was able to speak relatively normal again. “Just stick your finger in the air and sniff the best songs out. This song tastes like blue..”
“She is probably so calm because she knows it is not a threat. And she has done this before..?” Donnie looked down at her and she nodded. She started swaying again and her head bobbed along with it. “Wheee, this is fun!”
“Better enjoy this Ishtar, while it lasts. Her senses flow over into other senses. That's why she can smell sound and hear colors. Also a sign that different brain areas are connected now.”
“Can we leave her unsupervised?” informed Leo.
“Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem. But we should inform dad, just in case..”
“And what caused it that she's high?” asked Splinter when they explained. Feeling uncomfortable to share this information, Leo kept it short. “Something in the bedroom” he said flushed face.
“Yes, I already understood that from your explanation. But of what exactly?”
“Er.. she drank some of my blood..” he stammered, looking down.
“Was it her intention to drink your blood?”
“No, she just bit me really hard and pierced my skin. It was in the heat of the moment..” Leo said, looking away again.
“And it has nothing to do with her being more dominant?” asked Splinter amused.
Unwilling to share, Leonardo looked away. 'Of course it had to do with their game, who could be more dominant. But this was private information. Shell, why is it so hard to talk about this?'
“You boys can go train, I'll look after her.” Splinter said.
Still distracted Leonardo bowed and thanked his father.
Meanwhile on the couch, Ishtar felt nature's call to use the bathroom. 'Oh, this is gonna be fun.' she thought. 'How do I walk again?' she wondered. She got up and swayed on her legs. Somehow it helped her to point in the direction she was going. At the corner of the couch she stopped. From there to the stairs was no support, no furniture to hold on to. “How to get there? … I could crawl on hands and knees.. Oh wait, I've got it. I do not have to think about it, I just walk..” she spoke without noticing she said it out loud.
Donnie walked by on his way to the dojo and saw her struggling. “Hey love, are you alright? Where are you going?”
“Hi Don... purge … need bathroom..”
“Do you need help? Seems like you got trouble walking.”
“Oh, I just walk forest trails in desert mirages and need to play drums in bathroom..”
“Yes, I thought so. Come on, I'll help you get there,” Donnie offered.
“Is this the part where she's smarter than you, Donnie?” asked Raphael. “She looks kinda lost in the world.”
“I'm experiencing all possibilities in a world who tends to keep order within chaos.” she answered.
“Okay... That doesn't make sense. Do you understand what she means, Donnie?”
“Most of it.”
“WHOOOW, mission accomplished!” Ishtar cheered.
Everybody laughed at her outburst. And for some reason the guys weren't able to leave her on her own while she was still tripping. Splinter looked approvingly at that and said “this is where you need to be, my sons.”
When Ishtar returned from the bathroom Raphael couldn't resist. “Tell us something smart, babe.”
“Don't feed me any chocolate. I really would like the pure cacao right now. But if you're going down a river at two miles per hour and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to ri-shingle your roof?”
“I don't know..” Raph said blinking. “How much?”
“Well, purple of course, because aliens don't wear hats!”
Even Michaelangelo was lost for words, it sounded so ridiculous. Smirking Ishtar gently slapped his cheek a few times and looked knowingly at him. And slumped back on the couch. It felt like a good idea to lie down. And she sat upright again. “I need to write this down! Give me something to write with!”
Leonardo had seen something on Ishtar's leg when she bounced up from the couch, but he didn't got the time to say it, for her attention was focused on writing things down. Donatello sprinted to his lab to get her a white board and markers. “Can you write already?”
Ishtar snorted, “watch me!”

“Yes, that is something Stephen Hawking said,” said Donnie.
“Wait, you can actually read this?” asked Raphael.
“Sure dude, this ain't hard to read.” said Mickey.

“Wow, really? You do realize that these are future predictions, right?” Mickey gasped.
“How do you do that, Ishtar?” asked Donnie. “These are amazing discoveries!”
“I'm tapping into the field of knowledge. The discoveries are already made, just not made public yet.”
“What are we talking about? I cannot read this”, Leo said annoyed.
“These are scientific discoveries who will be published within a month.” Ishtar said.
“And how do you know this?” Leo asked beyond believe.
Ishtar answered with a peaceful smile, “I just told you..”
“Yes, but... how does it work? It doesn't make sense.”
“Should it be? Not all things in the world is logical or explainable. There is a reason why this plant medicine is illegal in many countries. Not because you are a danger to yourself, but you are a danger to society.”
Leonardo frowned.
“As long as you are under the influence of these drugs, you experience the world differently. You find yourself in a different reality, which allows you to look at things in a different perspective. Asking questions about the most normal things in the world. Sometimes people find out that the system doesn't work the way they've been taught, for example the governmental system. And that poses a threat..”
“That does make sense..” Leo agreed. “Are you back on earth yet?”
“Yes and now I can enjoy the afterglow.”
Not understanding Leo looked at Donnie for an explanation.
“It's the opposite of a hangover. Common effects of afterglow are increased confidence, state of inner peace, feeling 'cleansed' and insomnia. A psychiatrist named Walter Pahnke described aftergow as an 'elevated and energetic mood with a relative freedom from concerns of the past and from guilt and anxiety'.”
“Too many words, Donnie. It feels like the hot coals after the fire has gone out. I feel peaceful and content.” She purred leaning against Leo's arm. Looking upwards to the blue clad turtle she still saw worry in his face. She nudged him, “hey, this isn't your fault. And nothing bad happened..”
Unconvinced and still feeling guilty Leo looked down at her. “Are you certain? You having this trip might have been a side effect. Pull up your trouser of your left leg.”
Doing so she reveals her leg, seeing scales... “What the fuck?!”
If it wasn't such a tricky situation it was just funny to see both Donnie's and Ishtar's facial expressions were the same, while putting all the facts together and coming to the same conclusion. They even said the same thing at the same time. “Leo's blood and probably yours / my brothers' blood acts as a catalyst to mutate even further. To become more of a mutant turtle-like appearance, scales in this case..”
“Yo Don, that was creepy, speaking simultaneously!” Raph exclaimed.
“Did we speak simultaneously? I didn't notice!” said Donnie. “That's awesome!”
Ishtar grinned, she wasn't surprised. She had experienced strange things before, partly because she was a witch. Because she's used to work with energy. Sometimes the word witch wasn't a right fit. But it was still a good introduction to the things she could manifest. The law of attraction, being able to communicate with spirits, performing Reiki and energetic healings were all part of her being. Some skills she had acquired in past lives, only to be reminded about it in this life to activate it again. Those were skills she learned very quickly. And other skills took a little longer to learn, but were just as dear to her. Hearing her surroundings again, Ishtar looked at her new family. Looking at each one in turn, she sighed content.
Mickey waved his hands in front of her, “earth to Ishtar, anyone awake in there?”
“Yeah, I'm here, just pondering..”
“It looked you were kinda out of it, you sure you're not spacing anymore?”
“Well, maybe I am, maybe I'm not,” she said sarcastically. She felt the afterglow fading away. Ready to get it over with, she asked Donnie to come with her to the lab, to perform the necessary tests. Though she wasn't looking forward to it all. Of all the things she should get from transforming more mutant turtle-like, she hadn't expected scales. Nor from drinking blood..

The Complete Guide to Shroom Trips
Introduction: What is a Shroom Trip?

A shroom trip is an experience that is caused by the consumption of psychoactive mushrooms. These mushrooms contain a compound called psilocybin, which is a psychedelic substance. When psilocybin is consumed, it causes changes in perception, thought, and emotion.
Psychedelic mushrooms have been used for centuries by many cultures for their mystical and spiritual properties. There has been a resurgence of interest in these mushrooms as a potential treatment for mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety in recent years.
Shroom trips can last for several hours, and the effects can vary depending on the person. Some people may experience mild changes in perception, while others may have more profound changes.
The most common effects of shroom trips include:
changes in perception of time
enhanced colors and sounds
increased feelings of creativity
increased feelings of well-being
mood changes
visual hallucinations
Shroom trips can also cause adverse effects, such as anxiety, confusion, delusions, fear, and paranoia psychosis. It is essential to note that shroom trips are not the same as magic mushroom trips. Magic mushrooms are a different
How to Prepare for a Shroom Trip
There are a few things you can do to prepare for a shroom trip:
1. Choose the right setting. Make sure you're in a comfortable place where you feel safe and can relax. This could be your home, a friend's house, or even a park.
2. Set your intention. Before you start, take a few minutes to sit down and think about what you want to get out of the experience. What do you wish to feel? What do you hope to learn?
3. Have a friend with you. It's always a good idea to have someone with you who can support you and make sure you're safe.
4. Eat a light meal.
You don't want to overeat before taking shrooms, but you also don't want to be hungry. A light meal or snack will help you feel more comfortable.
5. Drink lots of water.
Shrooms can cause dehydration, so it's essential to drink lots of water before, during, and after your trip.
What are the Dangers of Taking Shrooms?
Shrooms are a type of mushroom that contains psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound. When psilocybin is consumed, it is converted into psilocin, responsible for the psychoactive effects.
Short-term effects of shrooms include hallucinations, altered perception of time, and impaired judgment. These effects can be intense and may lead to an increased risk of accidents or injury. There is also a risk of developing psychotic symptoms, such as paranoia and delusions and experiencing a bad trip.
The long-term effects of shrooms are not well known, but there is some evidence to suggest that they may lead to persistent psychosis and hallucinations. There is also a risk of developing tolerance, which means that higher doses would be required to achieve the same effects.
What is the Difference Between Magic Mushrooms and Psilocybin Mushrooms?
The main difference between magic mushrooms and psilocybin mushrooms is that psilocybin mushrooms are more potent than magic mushrooms. Psilocybin mushrooms contain higher levels of psilocybin, which is the primary psychoactive compound responsible for the hallucinogenic effects.
Conclusion and Final Thoughts on Taking Shrooms
Magic mushrooms are among those substances demonized for a long time. However, if you are the type of person who does not like feeling high all the time, you may want to give them a try. In our opinion, shrooms are a great way to reduce stress and anxiety and a great way to relax and have fun. With the proper set and setting, they can be a great way to connect with yourself and the world around you.

What Importance Points you have to Know About Magic Mushroom Use
Magic mushrooms are wild or cultivated mushrooms that contain psilocybin, a naturally-occurring psychoactive and hallucinogenic compound. Psilocybin is considered one of the most well-known psychedelics, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administrations.1
Psilocybin is classified as a Schedule I drug, meaning that it has a high potential for misuse and has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
Although certain cultures have known to use some mushrooms' > hallucinogenic properties. for centuries, psilocybin was first isolated in 1958 by Dr. Albert Hofmann, who also discovered lysergic acid diethylamide .
Magic mushrooms are often prepared by drying and are eaten by being mixed into food or drinks, although some people eat freshly picked magic mushrooms.
Also Known As: Magic mushrooms are also known as shrooms, mushies, blue meanies, golden tops, liberty caps, philosopher's stones, liberties, amani, and agaric.

What Do Magic Mushrooms Do?
Magic mushrooms are hallucinogenic drugs, meaning they can cause you to see, hear, and feel sensations that seem real but are not. The effects of magic mushrooms, however, are highly variable and believed to be influenced by environmental factors.2
Shrooms have a long history of being associated with spiritual experiences and self-discovery. Many believe that naturally occurring drugs like magic mushrooms, weed.d, and mesca . are sacred herbs that enable people to attain superior mental states. Others take magic mushrooms to experience a sense of euphoria, connection, and a distorted sense of time.
The psilocybin found in shrooms is converted to psilocin in the body and is believed to influence serotonin levels in the brain, leading to altered and unusual perceptions. The effects take 20 to 40 minutes to begin and can last up to 6 hours—the same amount of time it takes for psilocin to be metabolized and excreted.3
A number of factors influence the effects of magic mushrooms, including dosage, age, weight, personality, emotional state, environment, and history of mental illness.
What the Experts Say?
While magic mushrooms are often sought out for a peaceful high, shrooms have been reported to induce anxiety, frightening hallucinations, paranoia, and confusion in some.4 In fact, most hospital admissions related to the use of magic mushrooms are connected to colloquially known as a "bad trip."
Off-Label or Recently Approved Uses
Magic mushrooms have been used for thousands of years for both spiritual and medicinal uses among indigenous people of America and Europe.
In 2018, researchers from John Hopkins University recommended reclassification of the drug from Schedule I to Schedule IV in order to allow for medical use. Studies suggest that psilocybin can be used to treat cancer-related psychiatric distress, depression, anxiety, nicotine addiction, and substance use disorders.3
In 2019, Denver became the first city to decriminalize mushrooms. Oakland became the second city less than a month later. This does not mean that shrooms are legal but that the city is not permitted to "spend resources to impose criminal penalties" on people in possession of the drug.

Common Side Effects
All hallucinogens carry the risk of triggering mental and emotional problems and causing accidents while under the influence. Among adolescents, magic mushrooms are frequently taken in combination with alcohol and other drugs, increasing the psychological and physical risks.
The amount of psilocybin and psilocin contained in any given magic mushroom is unknown, and mushrooms vary significantly in the amounts of psychoactive contents. This means it's tough to tell the length, intensity, and type of "trip" someone will experience.

Since magic mushrooms look similar to poisonous mushrooms, poisoning is yet another potential risk of taking these drugs. Mushroom poisoning can cause severe illness, organ damage, and even death.
It's also common for magic mushroom products to be contaminated. A study of 886 samples alleged to be psilocybin mushrooms analyzed by Pharm Chem Street Drug Laboratory showed that only 252 (28%) were hallucinogenic, while 275 (31%) were regular store-bought mushrooms laced with LSD or phencyclidine (PCP), and 328 (37%) contained no drug at all.6
Signs of Use

Myths & Common Questions.
There are many myths about magic mushrooms. Some people believe, for example, that magic mushrooms are "safer" and produce a "milder" trip than other hallucinogenics.
In fact, in addition to their potential to poison anyone who takes them, magic mushrooms are just as unpredictable in their effects as other drugs. Some people have reported much more intense and frightening hallucinations on magic mushrooms than on LSD.
Many people also confuse fly agaric mushrooms with psilocybin-containing mushrooms—but they are not the same. Fly agaric mushrooms contain the psychoactive chemicals ibotenic acid and muscimol, which are known to cause twitching, drooling, sweating, dizziness, vomiting, and delirium.7
Tolerance, Dependence, and Withdrawal
Like most drugs, the more you use magic mushrooms, the more tolerance you develop. Tolerance also develops quickly with regular use. This means that you need more of the drug to achieve the same effect.
Developing a tolerance can be especially risky with shrooms because consuming a large amount can result in overdose symptoms, which, while not fatal, can include agitation, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle weakness, panic or paranoia, psychosis, and seizures.

How Long Does Psilocybin Stay in Your System?
The short-term effects of magic mushrooms typically wear off in 6 to 12 hours.3, But users can experience long-term changes in personality and flashbacks long after taking the drugs.
The average half-life of psilocybin ranges from an hour to two, and it generally takes five to six half-lives for a substance to be eliminated from your system.
The regular urine drug screening for employment does not test for psilocybin, but there are specific tests that can be ordered to check for the powerful hallucinogen. Like many other drugs, magic mushrooms can be found in hair follicles for up to 90 days.8
Addiction
Psilocybin is not addictive and does not lead to compulsive use. This is partly because the drug can cause an intense “trip.” Plus, people can build a tolerance to psilocybin reasonably quickly, making it hard to have any effect after several days of repeated use.5
Withdrawal
While users rarely report physical symptoms of withdrawal when they stop using the drug, some experience psychological effects, including depression.
