A/N: I choose Foxy because he is my favorite both in the game and movie. Hope ya'll like this fic.

You were just gone for a moment, you had to use the bathroom, you thought that he'd be okay with the other kids. When you came out, he was nowhere to be seen. You looked for him everywhere, in the arcade, the ball pit, the bathroom. Then you heard that other kids also went missing. The police got called, you told your mom what happened. You were growing scared and desperate to find your brother. But weeks turned to months, and months turned to years. The police just stopped looking because they didn't find anything. No suspicious activities or of that sort. No one was found and they didn't even find one single body. It was as if they vanished like thin air. But you? You didn't stopped, you didn't plan on stopping until you found what happened to your brother.
Not only that, but your dreams got all sorts of weird. You had always dreamt of the same thing. You were at the Pizzeria, stepping out of the restroom, wearing the same clothes as you did that day, except the place would get darker and more sinister. The people around you have become faceless and the music sounded much more dimer. You'd spot your brother for a moment, then he'd vanish into thin air. Every time that would happen, you'd call out to him. Screaming his name around the pizzeria. You'd also hear a voice, it sounded robotic. It would always spell out something that you couldn't quite catch. But there were some letters that you could make out. 'C...O...M...E... F...I...N...D M...E...'. You were never able to hear it clearly, it sounded like a broken cassette tape. Then you'd wake up. The dream went on for years, you never really dreamt of anything else. If you did, it would always be something that happened in your childhood, evolving your brother. A lot has changed since he turned out missing.
Now it was the early 2000's, you were already an adult. Working a nine to five job at a Target at the mall and living with your mom still. That early morning, you've woken up from that dream. Again, that same dream. You walking out the bathroom, still wearing that outfit you wore that day and the place was full of faceless people and that music. God that music made shivers run down your spine. You did what you'd always do, look for your brother. It always ended with with you entering the main lobby, near the small single stage. And again, that voice. 'C...O...M...E... F...I...N...D M...E...'. You never could make out what he was saying. Then you'd wake up. You didn't understand it. You never understood it. You got ready for work. You put on your red polo shirt with your name tag and your light brown kaki pants. Before you left the room, you looked at a picture sitting in your night stand. It was of you and your brother, on his birthday. You remembered that summer how he had a pirate themed birthday party. He loved pirates. You remember how he would walk around with a black eyepatch and a hook on his right hand. You would even play with him when your mom would be out working late. You always choose to be a mermaid or the villain in his games. You missed those times.
Besides that, you never really planned on going to school for anything. That was the last thing you would be worried about. So you decided to work, maybe save up enough money to maybe hire a private investigator or someone who can help you find something. Now you were at work, doing what you'd normally do. Just helping customers and ringing them out. It was just a regular day. It felt slower than most days. You heard from your coworkers that a security guard got fired, before he punched a guy who he mistook as a kidnapper. If you were in his situation, you'd probably do the same. Now a-days you didn't know who you could trust or you couldn't even look away from a moment because something could happen with a blink of an eye. It was understandable, at least to you.
You've been invited to do things with your coworkers, except you've declined. Always telling them that you were busy or you just didn't feel like going out. It was hard for you to make friends, you had basically isolated yourself from everyone when your brother turned up missing. You never really tried to make friends again. This worried your mom. Since you'd only go to work, go home, eat and sleep. It was a repeated cycle. She had talked to you about going to see a therapist. But you always declined. You didn't want to go and talk to somebody about how after many years you're still on the hunt for your brother. They'll probably medicate you or get you committed into an asylum. You you avoided that topic.
After work, you were back home. In your room, looking through your book. This book had news paper articles, along with police reports, pictures and other things that you've kept for years. This was your kind of evidence that you kept. You'd study these stuff day and night, for the last couple of years. You never gave up. Not only that, but you've tried asking the owner of the place 'William Afton' if you could go into the place to investigate, except the guy never picked up the phone or responded to your letters. You've even tried to get the job as a security guard, but Steve Raglan, who was a career counselor didn't give you the job. He'd always say that. 'It wasn't good for your mental health' or that 'He needs someone who's more calm and collected'. What he probably meant was that he needed someone who wasn't crazy.
You were busy looking at the old, now yellow news paper. Re-reading the article about the missing kids. You've read it many times by now, you might even memorize it. Then you heard someone knock at your door, then they came in. It was your mom. Who had a face of worry. "Y/n? Have you ate anything?" She asked, looking over you saw that she still had her work uniform on, she must have got back. "No, not yet." You responded, then she got closer. Seen what you were reading. She let out a sigh, as if she was exhausted of some kind. "Again? Y/n, we've been over this." She said, then you looked over at her. "I know, but... I just got to find something." You added to her.
She looked at you, seen the dark circles under your eyes. Indicating that you didn't get much sleep. "Baby, it's been years." She said, while looking at you. "You just... have to accept that he isn't coming back." She said sadly, as if she didn't want to say it, but she did. "I know... I just... want to know what happened to him.. or at least who took him.." you added in defense. Your mom then fidgeted with your hair a bit, as if she was fixing it. "So do it, but... you have to stop this obsession. It's not good for you." She said to you. It went silent for a moment, then your mom let out a small sigh. "I'll get dinner started, I'll come to get you in a bit." She said, giving you a small squeeze to your shoulder and she left your room. You sighed, placing your hands on your cheeks and leaned on the desk. Trying to think of what your mom said. Then you looked at picture sitting on the night stand for a moment. After a whole silent minute, you got up from the desk and went into the kitchen where your mom was, to help her with dinner.
You were at the food court, you had taken your lunch break, now you were heading back. You weren't watching where you were going and you've bumped into somebody. Making them drop a book of theirs. "Shit, I'm sorry." You said, picking up the old looking small book with the title which read 'Dream Theory'. Interesting. "It's alright." He said, then you handed the book to the guy. He was cute. He had messy brown hair and slightly tired eyes. The same description as the security guy who got fired.
"Are you... the guy who got fired from security?" you asked him. He had a look of embarrassment, but he nodded. "Yeah, that's me." He said. It was quiet for a moment, but you spoke again. "What you did was understandable." You said, making him look at you with his eyes slightly wide by your words. "You think so?" He asked. "Yeah, now a-days, you don't even know people's intentions or motives. I would have probably done the same if I were you." You explained. He only nodded at your words, at least someone also thought like him. "Well, I better go, hopefully I'll see you around." You said with a small smile. He nodded and returned the smile. Afterwards, you headed back towards your work place, while he also left to his destination.
You were back home, counting the money you kept in a shoebox underneath your bed. It was enough to fire an investigator, but you knew that you'll need more. This would probably cover the bear bare minimum. It was frustrating. You've spent a whole year saving, yet it didn't feel like it was enough. You knew that you should have got a job sooner, than later. Again, you went through the same old articles and pictures. Trying to find something again. But nothing, it was the same old thing. The same words and the same people in the pictures. Of kids playing around the arcade and one of a person dressed as a yellow bunny. That was odd, you don't remember that bunny at the pizzeria. When was he added? When you looked at the picture of him posing with a girl with blonde hair in pick tails, it felt creepy in a way. Almost unsettling. You didn't really notice this picture or you probably didn't notice it at first.
It was another day, you were in the register, ringing people out. You sighed, in exhaustion. Your feet were hurting and time felt much slower than usual. Another costumer came to the register. You gave them the best smile. "Hello-" you were cut off guard, seen that it was that guy you met the other day. "Oh, it's you. Find everything alright?" You asked him, like you'd normally asked every costumer. You scanned the box of crayons and paper, along with a few things he had in his basket. "Yeah, thanks." He said, while grabbing his wallet. "Found a job yet?" You asked him, out of politeness. "If you haven't, I'm sure you could send in your application." You said. "I actually already did, but thank you for the offer." He responded. You nodded, as you placed the items in a white plastic bag with the red Target logo. "What did you find? If you don't mind me asking." You asked him. "A security guard, at some pizzeria. The pay isn't good, but it's something." He explained.
This caught your curiosity. "Really? What pizzeria?" you asked, putting the packet of bacon in the bag. "It's called, I think. Freddy's Fazbear's Pizza, something like that." He explained. No fucking way. You looked at him wide eyed. "For real?" You asked him, he only nodded. Then he gave you the amount of money that was due. As you handed him his receipt, you hesitated a bit. "When can I see you again?" You asked. "Hm, I don't know, maybe in half an hour while I still have time? Why?" He asked, now curious on why you'd want to see him. "It's cause... I'd like to talk to you about something. It'll be worth your while, I promise." You said, he thought of it for a minute, then he nodded. "Alright, I'll meet you in the food court... When does your shift in end?" he asked. "In about an hour, what's your name by the way?" You asked him. "It's Mike." He told kindly, as you hummed in response. Watching him leave in a bit of a hurry, you went back to work hoping that the time would go by fast.
After that hour, you were at the food court, waiting for Mike to arrive. He finally did. "Thanks for coming." You said almost shyly. "No problem, but just make it quick. I got to get back home to get ready for my first shift." He explained. You and him sat on a table. "Look, I know you've only known me for a bit. But, please hear me out." You said. Mike nodded, allowing you to processed. "Could you, maybe let me in the pizzeria, while you do your job. I'm just looking for something." You explained to him. He looked at you with a look of confusion. "Don't worry, I'm not going to steal anything, I'm just looking for something." You explained to him. But he wanted to know a bit more. "I don't know. What exactly are you looking for? Treasure of some kind?" He asked. "Well, almost something like that." You told him, but he still not very convinced. You didn't know whether you should tell him the whole story on why you're interested in going into the pizzeria. You just skipped the subject.
"Not only that, but I'll pay you for your troubles. I just want to go in and look, then I'm out." You added, as soon as you said 'paid' he looked at you with more reason. "How much?" he asked. "Two-hundred dollars per night. It'll just be this week and no more." You told him, seen the look of shock in his face. He thought for a minute. Then he nodded his head. "Alright deal, but, you have to pay first. I don't want to get scammed or anything." He said, then you grabbed your wallet and handed him two fifty dollar bills. He took the money and looked at it, in almost as if he'd never seen that amount in while. "That's all I have for now, but I'll give you the rest afterwards." You explained to him. Mike nodded, he seemed as if he was convinced. "Alright, it's a deal then." He said. After that was settled. "Before I go, here's my house number. Call me if anything." You explained to him, writing your house number on a piece of paper and gave it to him. You normally wouldn't give your number to anyone, but you knew that you'd be seen him for the next couple days.
Back home, you told your mom that you'd be going out at night for the whole week. For some kind of night shift and you'd be back at 6:00 am. You left home and headed to the pizzeria. It was 11:55 pm. You were sitting in your car, waiting for Mike to arrive. A few minutes passed and he had arrived at 12:00 am. On time. He told you to just be smooth and not make it seem as if you were here. He sounded as if he really needed this job. You nodded understandingly and went to search.
Like before, you searched everywhere that you could. Except you got to look more. In the kitchen, boiler room and in the back. But nothing. Despite not finding anything, you'll be back tomorrow night. When you got back to the main lobby, you heard strange movements coming from the single stage. It had dark purple curtains like the main one. You got a bit close, trying to listen and see closely on what was making the inside of the stage move. You reached out and tried to pull the curtains, until you heard the Mike called out to you. "Hey, it's 6:00, we gotta go." He said, you nodded at him, you looked back at the stage. Before you headed out. "Here's the rest." You told him, giving him the other two fifty bucks. He took them. "Thanks." He said, putting the money in his pocket. "No, thank you for letting me do this. I know it's risky." You said with a small smile. "It's nothing really, I just... really need the money and the pay here is not so great. From what I was told." He explained. You nodded. "I understand." You responded to him. "Well, I'll see you later tonight?" you asked him. "Yeah. See ya." He responded with a small awkward smile, then headed to his car. You did the same.
You went home, slept for a few hours. You had that dream once again. But, there was a slight change. When you got to the small single stage, the voice sounded much different than before. 'Y...O...U... F...O...U...N..D... M... E...' You could slightly make out the letters, but the words completely. Then you woke up again. Like always. You got ready and went to work and after work you went home, then you left to the pizzeria at the same time as you did before. Mike arrived, you paid him the while two hundred dollars and you got to doing what you were doing. You searched in the same places, but this time you looked more in the main lobby. It felt as if you were getting closer to finding something, and that something was in the main lobby. You looked under the tables, bathrooms and even in the trashcans, but nothing. But it still felt close. Looking over at the single stage, you noticed that the curtains were open. You walked over to it, and saw that it was empty. Dammit, you thought something would be in there, before you could leaned close to look inside. You heard a loud thud in the office.
Quickly you ran towards the office. "Mike?" You called out to him, seen that he was on the floor groaning in pain. Bleeding from his arm. You went over and helped him up from the floor. "You good? What happened?" you asked him, setting him back on the chair. "I think so, dunno how that happened." He said, referring to the wound on his arm. It looked nasty. You looked around the office, trying to find a first aid kit. When you found it, you helped him patch up his wound. "What did you do?" You asked him, as you tightened the bandages on his arm. "I have no idea, I just dreamed of this kid, with a pirate hook. I chased after him, then he slashed me." He said, this caught your attention. 'Boy with a pirate hook.' That must have been a sign somehow.
When you got back home, your mom was getting ready to leave. You talked for a bit before she left. When she did, you went to catch some sleep before work. You went back to that same dream, back at the pizzeria, except you were in the last place where it ended. At the single stage, it was open. But it was empty. You got close, leaning in to look inside, but it was dark. All most like a bottomless pit. You stoke your hand in to see if you might find something, inside but you felt something grabbing your hand in the process. You heard the voice again. 'Y...O...U... F...O...U...N..D... M... E...'. Then the house phone rang. Making you wake up with a loud gasp, a bit frightened. Groaning that you've been woken up. You got up and walked towards the living room. You picked up the phone and answered.
"Hello?" you asked through the phone. "Y/n? Hey it Mike, sorry to interrupt whatever you were doing, but. Did you break into the pizzeria earlier this morning?" He asked, sounding worried in a way. "No? I was home the whole time. Why what happened?" You asked him. "Apparently someone or a group of people broke in. I just wanted to conform something." He explained. "That was it, sorry for interrupting." He apologized. "It's alright, I get it. I'll see you later tonight." You said, then you hung up. Who the hell would break into the pizzeria? That was a bit suspicious. You looked at the time and saw that it was close to being time to go to work. You sighed, walking back to your room to get ready.
Later that night, you were back at the pizzeria, waiting for Michael. He arrived, once he parked and stepped out of the car, then he went to the passenger door and opened it. A little girl stepped out with a small back pack. They both approached you. "Sorry, I couldn't get a hold of the babysitter and I just couldn't leave her alone." He explained to you. "Are you Mike's girlfriend?" she asked. Making you giggle and her brother's face turned a slight red. "Nah, just a friend." You replied to her. "Hm, I didn't think he'd have any." She said, making you laugh and Michael's face becoming redder. After you had a small introduction, you went in.
The place was trashed and a mess. While Mike went to put Abby to sleep, you decided to get some cleaning supplies to help clean the mess. You went to the janitor's closet to find some things, you spotted how on the door there was a dark liquid that had been splattered on there. Weird, it looked almost similar to blood, it was probably an old stain of some sort. You got brooms, dustpans, a bucket, mop and cleaning products. Then headed back to the main lobby. When Michael arrived, you and him got to cleaning. You both swept, mopped and you stocked up the chair and tables. Afterward, he went back to the office while you went on your search. Trying to find any kind of new clues maybe, but nothing. Some 'evidence' must have been cleaned up. You headed back to the office and saw that Mike was asleep and Abby had woken up. "Can you take me to the bathroom please?" She asked. You looked over at her sleeping brother and back at her. "Yeah, lets go." You said, taking her hand and leading her to the restroom.
You were waiting outside of the restroom, waiting for her to finish so that she could go back to her brother. The door opened and she walked out. "Done." She said with a small smile. Then a small noise was heard in the stage. You and Abby looked over for a minute. "Stay behind me." You said, then you slowly walked towards the lobby, with Abby behind you. You saw how the stage slightly shook, you kept the younger kid behind you, grabbing a broom. To defend yourself. Then the curtains of both the stages opened, revealing the animatronics. Of a bunny, bear, and a chick. They were all in good condition, with a bit of dirt and dust on them. The single stage had a fox, a bright red one that was more tattered than the rest, also with some dust.
They all moved their heads, towards your direction. Then they began to walk towards you both. You don't remember them doing that. You held the broom tightly, and kept Abby behind you. Except she peaked and looked towards the animatronics. "Those are my friends." She said, removing herself from behind you and going up to the four animals. "Abby wait." You said, getting closer to them. She seemed as if she knew them. Did she? You kept your broom in hand, watching as Abby interacted with them as if she's known them all her life. You felt something touch your shoulder, looking over, you saw the red fox. He was moving his ears and hook for a hand excitedly. Instead of feeling scared, you felt some kind of attraction? "It's okay, he just wants to hug you." Abby said to you, now the animatronics were looking at you. "He does?" you asked her, she then nodded.
Turning to face the fox, that was twice your size. You set the broom aside, then you extended your arms and moved closer to him. He did the same. You wrapped your arms around the cold fur like robotic body. His arms were around your smaller body. It felt a bit odd, but the more you hugged him, it felt comforting. You felt his hook for a hand giving you small pats, as a way to ease you. This felt nice, then you pulled away from him. Looking at him in his single eye. He moved his jaw excitedly, as well as his ears. It was cute in way. You gave him a small smile. Out of nowhere Abby began to laugh, you looked over and saw how the others were tickling her. She just laughed, which lead to some playful screaming and her telling them to stop. It was all fun and games, until you heard Mike run in to see what was happening.
As soon as he got there, he assumed Abby and you were in some kind of danger, he then grabbed a chair and held it up, as Freddy approached him. About to fight him. "It's okay Freddy, he's my brother Mike." Abby said towards Freddy, who had seemed to have calmed down. Allowing him to let Mike pass. "Mike, this is Bonnie, Foxy and Chica. Everyone, this is Mike." Abby introduced everyone to on another. "This is... is a joke right?" He asked, looking confused at you. "I thought I was tripping, but no." You responded to him. "It's okay Mike, they just want to play." Abby told Mike, then Chica turned to her and gave her a wink, making her smile.
"Alright, it's time to go, come on." He encouraged Abby. "Hold on." She responded to him, then she grabbed her little notepad and a red marker from her pocket. She drew something real quick and tore it off the notepad. Bonnie held out his hand, letting Abby put the picture on his palm. He then showed the picture to Foxy who looked very interested in the heart drawn on the paper. "I had a lot of fun." Abby told them, she then walked towards Mike. But stopped and gave Freddy a nice hug. Freddy returned the hug back. You looked at Foxy, who was waving his ears and jaw rapidly again. Also waving his hook around as if he was waving at you. "I'll see you around?" you asked him, he nodded his head. Then you walked out of the place with Mike and Abby.
"That was something." Mike said, watching Abby get in his car. "Yeah, it was." You responded, looking back inside, seen that Foxy was near the door. You guessed to make sure that you would all leave. You turned back to Mike who was closing and locking the gate. "So, find something?" He asked again. "Not yet, but I'm much closer than before." You explained to him. After he finished locking up the door. "I better get going. I got work in a few hours." You told him. "Alright, I'll probably stop by." He teased, making smile. "Alright, don't be a stranger." You told him, then you looked at Abby. "Goodbye Abby." You said kindly to her and she gave you smile, then you headed to your car, turned on the engine to get home. Back home, your mom wasn't there. You assumed she went to work early. You took off your shoes and just jumped on the couch, getting comfortable. Taking yet another nap before work. Hopefully afterwards you could get some better sleep. You fell asleep shortly afterwards.
You back at the pizzeria, except wasn't almost scary looking and dark like before. It seemed more friendly and nice to be in. You were standing outside the bathroom, the same clothes as before. Looking around, you saw someone in front of the single stage, they were small, like a child. You got closer to see who it was. Your eyes widen when you saw the back of that person's back of his head. They slowly turned around. You saw that it was your brother, he looks just like how he did when he went missing. He had on his orange shirt with blue jeans, shoes and his pirate hook that he had made.
"You found me." He said, you felt your eyes watering. It's been so long since you've seen your brother. You almost forgot how he looked like. You said his name in a whisper, then you went over, getting on your knees and pulling him into a hug. "Oh...I'm so sorry, I was only gone for a minute. I knew I should have been more watchful of you." You said, as you cried more, hugging your brother. "It's okay. You found me" He responded to you, all you could do was hug him and cry. As much as you wanted to continue to hug and be with him, you couldn't. This was only a dream. You pulled away, and looked at him in the eyes. "Please... I have to know... who took you?" You asked him, hoping that he'd give you answer or a clue. He didn't say anything. "Please tell me, who took you from me and mom?" You asked him again, but again. Nothing. Before you could ask him again. You woke up.

Unique Magic: "Rattle the Stars" Summons exactly that in the palm of Joel's robotic hand: a star. However, this is not just any star, this star's life flashes before your eyes, resulting in a controlled supernova. It creates a burning hot flash bang, with tremors forming cracks in the ground depending on the magnitude of the star itself. The explosion knocks enemies away from Joel. The size of the star dictates how much magic they will use, as well as how much blot he will accumulate. He is unsure what the maximum size of a star he can create is, but he does know that he has gotten dangerously close to overblotting while trying. Summary: "Why does he even teach?" is a question that crosses the mind of almost every NRC student in one of Joel's classes. He's shameless, sarcastic, and finds entertainment in messing with students and staff alike. Teaching is only a side job for him, his real passions lie elsewhere. Nonetheless, he is highly skilled in a variety of subjects, making him indispensable.
He abuses that privilege, of course, taking the time to have as much fun as he can in what he calls a boring dump of a school and make sure everyone around him suffers for it. Though this usually just amounts to light teasing and pranks. They do not behave like an educator or mentor. He does not typically enjoy interacting with most of his students in a serious manner, and the ones they do enjoy talking with are treated more like casual, distant friends.
With the responsibility of teaching so many subjects heavy on their shoulders, he does make plenty of time to shrug it off to work on his true dream: getting as rich as possible. Now, now, there are plenty of figures at NRC who want that, yeah? But Joel wants the lottery. He wants to struggle, look high and low, and come out above everyone with something ancient, shiny, and, hopefully, covered in expensive jewels. Over everything and everyone, they enjoy the hunt of it. To the point where he values it above people and relationships. Hell, they'd fly to the moon to get it if they had to.

Author's Notes: JOEL. Ahhh Joel. I'll admit, this was harder to write compared to the others! Everyone else's development, personality, struggles, etc. came very naturally to me, while, with joel, I really had to sit and brainstorm for awhile. Though, I can now say that he has grown on me a lot, and I plan on giving him more of a role in TCOAV like Ezra! I have lots of plans for him! Old ass man <33 (affectionate, /j) this will probably be the last new TCOAV oc for a while! But just know, there will be more >:)

(Name) threw the last article of clothing into the washing machine before starting it. It was around 7:30 am, and the boys were in the kitchen eating breakfast as she did some last minute cleaning.
“Killua, will you put this load of laundry on when it’s done? Kurapika and I are going into town to run some errands.”
Killua nodded, his mouth full of some sugary cereal he’d picked out.
“Thank you. I’ll be sure to pick you up some more chocolate robots.”
His eyes widened and he nodded frantically, seemingly excited.
“I should get ready. We leave in 30 minutes!”
She turned on her heels and ran upstairs, tripping halfway up before running up the rest.
Killua snickered. “She always trips on the 6th step. I think it’s slightly taller than the others.”
Kurapika hummed in response. He wasn’t paying much attention, focused on his breakfast. Today it was a fluffy omelet with a side of mixed fruit.
Now that he wasn’t shoving the food into his mouth so fast he could choke, he had to admit it was pretty good.
Once he was finished, he left to get dressed. (Name) had laid out his tabard and his old shirt. The torn sleeve of his shirt had been messily sown up, but it would do until he could get another one today.
As he pulled the shirt over his head, he noticed how good his clothing smelled. Usually he would just wash it with scentless detergent, but now it smelt floral.
‘Mmm… I wonder what detergent she used.’
He pulled the tabard on and looked at himself in the mirror.
For the most part he looked… okay. His hair had grown out to graze his shoulders, in need of a trim. Kurapika rubbed a strand of his hair between his fingers.
The day before his hair had been dry, yet oily at the same time, but now it was soft and smooth. Her shampoo worked miracles for him, but it didn’t fix his hair entirely. There were still split ends, but overall he felt a lot… better. Slightly more put together than he had been in a while.
After quickly combing his hair, Kurapika left his room.
(Name) was waiting by the front door, and he had to admit, she looked awfully cute.
Today she wore a floral tank top and jean shorts. On her back was a hello kitty themed backpack, several keychains hanging from it.
He recognized one of the keychains, his chest tightening slightly.
“You ready?”
He gave a curt nod, (Name) opening the door. “Alright, let’s go!”

Kurapika climbed into the passenger seat of (Name)’s car. The front seat was clean and tidy, but one look in the backseat told him Killua had been there.
There were chocolate robot boxes strewn across the car floor along with random toys and gadgets.
“… does killua ride along with you often?”
(Name) laughed. “Yeah, he does. I take him wherever he needs to go, that includes to the airport when we pick up Gon or Alluka.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Gon stays with you as well?”
“Yeah, unlike Killua he has a loving home to return to, so he’s here less, but he visits for at least a week or two every other month. You should see the car when HE’S here.”
“I assume it’s worse?”
“You assumption is correct.”
The two laugh, (Name) cranking up the car and backing out of the driveway.
“What’s our plan for the day?” Kurapika asked, staring out the window as they drove through the neighborhood.
“First, we’re stopping at the nearest men’s clothing store and getting you some clothes.”
“Then?”
“Then we’ll stop and get you your own soap and toiletries.”
He nodded.
“We’ll grab some groceries, and should be home before lunch.”
Kurapika pulled his satchel into his lap and looked around. He still had his wallet, thank god. While running the other night, he’d dropped several of his personal items, including a pair of sunglasses, his portable soap, and his spare change of clothes.
“We’re pulling up!”
Kurapika glanced up to see they’d pulled into a small parking lot, (Name) parking before getting out and stretching.
“Ugh, I hate shopping so early in the morning, but I hate the crowds even more.”
“I second that.”
Kurapika joined her, making sure his weapon had been left in the car. He didn’t want to make a scene in case it were to fall from his satchel.
The two walked in, (Name) picking up a basket at the door.
“Hmm, Kurapika, what are you looking for exactly?”
“A few pairs of pants, shirts. Maybe a set of pajamas. I won’t be staying with you long.”
She nodded, grabbing his hand and leading him to where he needed to go.
Her hands were always so soft and warm, a sharp contrast to his cold and calloused ones. He looked down to where their hands connected, his eyes softening.
“Oh, here it is!”
She let go and pointed. “You should be able find everything you need over here. I’m going to go look at the kids section. Killua’s grown out of his favorite pair of shorts, so I’m going to get him a bigger size. He’s pretty particular about what he’ll wear. Not as bad as Gon, though.”
She giggled to herself. Kurapika nodded, making a fist with the hand she’d held in an attempt to keep her warmth from escaping.
“Alright. I’ll meet you back at the car in 15 minutes.”
(Name) left the store with a shopping bag full of clothes, Kurapika raising an eyebrow.
“Didn’t you say he only needed a new pair of shorts?”
She purses her lips. “Well, the more I thought about it, the more I realized he’s grown out of his dress pants, and several shirts. Oh, and he’s always losing his socks.”
He smiled. ‘She’s like a mother. It’s… sweet.’
“I see. Well, if we want to get back before lunch we should get going.”
Her eyes widened before she unlocked the car. “Crap, you’re right! Let’s go!”
He almost laughed at how fast she slipped into her seat, following behind her.

The next place they stopped at was a large grocery store. Kurapika and (Name) walked together to the hygiene care aisle.
“Mmm, are you okay with normal mint flavored tooth paste?”
“Yes. I’m not exactly picky.”
She nodded, placing a tube of toothpaste into the shopping cart, along with a red tooth brush and floss.
“Hmm.”
(Name) looked over the small selection of men’s hair and body wash. Between the 5in1 bottles to the soap that smelled too intense, (Name) was having trouble helping Kurapika pick.
“What do you usually use?”
“The scentless kind.”
She hummed in response. “Is there a specific scent you’re going for?”
“Not really, again I’m not picky.”
(Name) peeked at him, thinking of her next words carefully.
“So… you wouldn’t mind checking out the women’s selection then?”
He glanced at her. “I wouldn’t, but why do you ask?”
“Well…”
He knew exactly what she was thinking of.
While in York New together, the group of five had gone out to dinner. When the waiter stopped at their table, he hit on Kurapika, thinking he was a woman.
It was very awkward. Kurtapika didn’t hear the end of it the entire night, the other boys only stopping when (Name) put an end to it by saying they were jealous he was pretty enough to be hit on.
The memory of her words still made his heart flutter.
“No reason. The women’s section just has…”
She stared at the 5in1 bottle with a frown.
“Better options.”
He couldn’t argue with that.
The women’s section was something Kurapika had only ever looked at in passing, the man staring at all the options in shock.
“There’s more neutral scents down here. How about this one?”
She handed him a bottle, the man lifting the lid and taking a whiff.
It smelled tropical, like mango and coconuts. While smelling good, it wasn’t too intense.
“This is fine.”
She added it and a matching set of conditioner to the basket. “How about a body wash with a similar scent?”
He nodded, not paying much attention. Kurapika didn’t care too much about what she picked for him, knowing it would smell good and be good quality. She always worried about small details like that.
“Oh, wait.”
He blinked, staring down at her.
“I forgot, you had a bad reaction to this brand when we bought it in York New. Let’s try another one.”
Kurapika was surprised. He hadn’t even remembered that, how had she?
“Let’s do this brand instead. It’s a similar scent too!”
Kurapika grabbed the basket after she set the new set of hair wash in, the girl giving him a questioning look.
“… I’ll carry it for you.”
It was the least he could do.
She didn’t argue, only smiling up at him. “What a gentleman.”
His cheeks turned pink, the man quickly turning to walk toward the food section of the grocery store.
“Hehe, thank you sweetheart.”
That didn’t help his cheeks cool down at all.
(Name) walked along the aisles of food, tossing random items in.
“Mmm, we’re out of crackers… oh and Killua’s favorite cereal…”
She stopped suddenly, turning back to Kurapika with a grin. “If you see anything you like, just toss it in!”
The blonde nodded hesitantly, following behind her.
After a few minutes, he spotted the pretzels he would snack on the most often.
(Name) caught him looking, immediately grabbing the bag and dropping it into the cart.
“… thanks.”
She didn’t respond, but sent him a smile before throwing another item into the cart.
Kurapika began to notice that nothing she had gathered was for her. She’d say this or that was for Killua or Leorio, but not a single thing was just for her.
“Oh, I need to grab some more meat, used the last bit of chicken a few days ago.”
She was talking to herself, off in a different world as she left the snack aisle, leaving without something of her own.
“Ahh, finally.”
The two were back in her car, the girl groaning. “Grocery shopping is the worst.”
Kurapika buckled himself in, watching as she pulled out of the parking lot.
“We’ll get home just before lunch time. Anything you want?”
He shrugged. “I’m-“
“I get it, you’re not picky, but is there something you’d prefer?”
Kurapika thought for a moment. Was there a food he liked more than others? He knew there were, but nothing that she would be able to cook. They were all Kurtan recipes.
But one thing did come to mind.
“… sandwiches.”
She nodded. “Alright, we’ll have sandwiches for lunch!”
Kurapika stared out the window for the rest of the car ride. For the first time in a while, he was looking forward to lunch.

They pulled into (Name)’s driveway about 15 minutes later. Before getting out, she sent a text to Killua.
“Why are you texting him?” Kurapika asked.
‘She’s about to to inside, can’t she just tell him whatever she needs to then?’
His question was answered when killua came sprinting out of the house, throwing open the door to the car and grabbing grocery bags quicker than a normal person would be able to process.
“Was… was that-“
“Killua? Yeah. He takes the groceries inside in exchange for chocolate robots.”
The two leave the car, Kurapika opening the front door for her.
“(Name)!”
Killua stopped mid bite of a freshly unwrapped chocolate robot to jump up and smile. “What’s for lunch?”
(Name) hummed as she walked into the kitchen, Kurapika following behind. “We’re having sandwiches today.”
“I want ham and cheese!”
“Coming up!”
Kurapika watched from behind the kitchen counter awkwardly.
“Are you going to help her put up groceries, or are you just going to stand there looking dumb?”
Kurapika turned to see Killua staring at him with an annoyed expression.
“I was going to.”
Kurapika brushed past the boy, picking up a random item and staring at it.
“(Name), where does this go?”
“Oh, in the cabinet on the left!”
Killua snickered from his seat, Kurapika shooting him a look before putting the item away.
This went on until they were finished, (Name) patting him on the back.
“Thanks for the help! Now I can get lunch done faster.”
He just nodded in response, lingering in the kitchen. Kurapika wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself when he wasn’t busy. Should he sit and watch TV? Help (Name) with lunch? Go rest in his room?
His decision was made for him when (Name) grabbed his hand.
“Kurapika, why don’t you go sit down and I’ll bring you some lunch? You’re still not fully recovered, some rest will do you some good.”
Kurapika let out a relieved sigh. “Alright.”
He sat down on the couch, trying to relax. Kurapika wanted to recover as soon as possible. The faster he recovered, the faster he could get back to finding the scarlet eyes.
Killua jumped slightly when his side vibrated, patting his pocket and then pulling out his phone.
He put in his password before answering.
“Gon? Hey.”
Kurapika perked up. It had been a while since he’d seen Gon. He’d felt guilty about not being there for him when he’d nearly died around a year ago, so he’d been avoiding him along with (Name).
“Yeah. I’m sure she won’t mind. Hey, (Name)?”
The woman in question hummed in response, placing a finished sandwich on a plate.
“Gon’s asking if he can come over this week and stay for a month while his family renovates their house.”
“That’s fine, make sure he tells Aunt Mito I appreciate that basket she sent me after…”
She trailed off. Killua seemed to know what she was talking about, glancing at Kurapika with a frown.
“I will. I’ll be right back.”
Killua walked out of the room, continuing to talk to Gon while he did.
This interaction troubled Kurapika. Were they keeping something from him?
‘I’ll ask a few questions, perhaps it’s just my imagination.’
“She sent you a basket? What kind?”
(Name) paused, a piece of ham falling onto the floor. Kurapika noticed this, his eyes narrowing.
“Oh, just a gift basket. Nothing special.”
“Uh huh…”
He began to ask her another question, but Killua walked in beaming.
“He’s catching a flight tonight and will be here in the morning!”
(Name) composed herself, giving him a smile back. “Oh dear, I may have to do another grocery run if Gon is coming. I’ll call Leorio and see if he wants to meet up as well. It’s been a while since we’ve all been in one place!”
Kurapika froze, another memory flooding back.
“No… no (Name), you can’t. I won’t let you.”
The girl wrenched her wrist away from the rage filled blonde, wincing at the pain blooming beneath her skin.
“I can, and I will. Why won’t you let me help you? You had no issue with Gon and Killua-“
“That’s because they aren’t fucking weak like you!”
Kurapika would never forget the look on her face when he yelled at her for the first time. Leorio had to step in to make sure she was okay, saying Kurapika had fractured her wrist.
The man glanced at the girls arm, seeing no injury. It had been two years, of course she wasn’t still hurt, but the memory of the pain he’d caused her would haunt him forever.
He was torn from his thoughts when (Name) called for him. How she still managed to smile at him after he’d hurt her didn’t make sense to him.
Kurapika was still that same man, willing to do anything to fulfill his mission. He knew, if he had to, he could bring himself to hurt her again.
And that’s why he couldn’t stay for long. It was better if he was gone, where he couldn’t hurt anyone he loved.
The sandwich he’d been looking forward to sat in front of him, the crust cut off the ends.
She’d remembered he didn’t like the crust.
He took a bite, letting himself enjoy a meal with his friends by his side. Kurapika knew this wouldn’t last forever, but just for a moment (Name) was sitting next to him, and Killua was laughing away at something random on TV.
It was peaceful, not quiet, but… calm.

“Killua, I know you’re excited, but you should go to bed. We have to get up early to pick up Gon.”
Killua was currently pacing the hallways. He was in his new pajamas, staring up at the clock as it ticked away. (Name) flicked the light on and yawned, leading the boy into the kitchen.
“Let’s warm you up some milk. Should help you sleep.”
The sound of a door opening caused her to jump, the girl turning to see Kurapika rubbing his eyes from the doorway to his room.
“Is something the matter?”
(Name) tried not to react. The man was shirtless, only wearing a pair of baggy sweatpants.
“No, Killua is just having trouble sleeping.”
The boy pouted. “I can stay up for three days at a time you know.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean you should.”
She ruffled his hair, the boy swatting at her hands, but Kurapika could tell he didn’t mind it at all by the way Killua was smiling.
“Sorry for waking you. Would you like some tea? I’ll be back down in a minute.”
Kurapika nodded, opening his door all the way and walking out into the living room. Killua raised an eyebrow.
“Why are you half naked? (Name) is right here.”
The man looked down then back up. “The clothing I bought today is still being dried.”
(Name) waved her hand dismissively. “I promise I don’t mind. Come on Killua, let’s get you to bed.”
She rushed off, dragging the boy behind her.
Kurapika watched in mild amusement, leaning against the counter.
He looked down at his torso again, frowning lightly.
Kurapika had lost weight again. When alone, he only ate just enough to fuel himself, rarely eating a full meal.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to eat, he was just way too busy to have the time to. He’d get cranky in the middle of the day just to remember he had yet to have eaten anything.
A sigh escaped his lips. He ran his fingers through his hair. Kurapika didn’t want to worry her, he’d seen the way her smile faltered when he said he hadn’t been eating right.
He stood up and began to rummage through her cabinets.

“You’re too trusting of him.”
(Name) sighed, plopping down onto the rocking chair beside Killua’s bed. When he had trouble sleeping or the occasional nightmare, (Name) would stay by his side singing lullabies until he drifted off.
“He didn’t mean to hurt me, he just has trouble controlling his strength when he’s angry. He already apologized for that”
Killua scoffed. ‘Yeah, and for that only.’
“It could happen again. And if I did I would-“
“It won’t.”
She pushed back the hair on his forehead and planted a kiss. “He’s going through a lot, and I know that doesn’t excuse his actions, but let’s enjoy the time we have with him, alright?”
The boy sighed. “You’re too forgiving.”
“If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t let you live here,” she teased as she ruffled his hair. “I’m glad I don’t rent, with the amount of damage you’ve caused.”
He pouted, obviously embarrassed from the trouble he’d caused.
“Try to be nice, alright? He’s our guest.”
“As long as he’s nice to you.”
(Name) groaned. “No, Killua, you should be nice to him regardless. Even if-“
“Even if people are unkind, you shouldn’t let it influence your actions, blah blah blah. You’re being hypocritical. Didn’t you chew Illumi a new one during the final phase of the Hunter Exam?”
She pursed her lips. “That’s different. Adults stand up for children, not the other way around.”
She stood up, leaning down to tuck him in.
“Now, sleep. I’ll come check on you in an hour, come knock on my door if you need me.”
She stood up, making sure his nightlight was on before leaving the room. “Goodnight Killua, sleep tight.”
“Goodnight…”
She closed the door behind her.
(Name) began the decent downstairs, humming to herself. She could smell something, but couldn’t quite place the scent.
“(Name)? Perfect timing, the tea is almost ready.
(Name) peeled into the kitchen, seeing a tea kettle on the stove.
“Oh, thanks! You didn’t have to.”
He shook his head, placing two cups on the counter and inserting a tea bag into each.
“It’s… the least I could do.”
It was hard to look her in the eye now. He’d only been able to do it once during his stay, quickly shying away after.
He missed seeing the pretty (e/c) color of her eyes.
Kurapika set the cup of tea in front of her, (Name) inhaling the scent with a happy sigh. “Mmm, it smells amazing.”
She smiled up at him, those eyes staring right into his.
He looked away immediately, moving to sit right beside her to make eye contact harder to achieve.
“Have trouble sleeping?”
Kurapika took a moment to answer. “Yes. I get nightmares sometimes.”
He’d told her about that before, during the Hunter Exam. She placed her hand on top of his, pretending to not notice him flinch.
“We can watch a movie until you’re ready to sleep.”
He nodded. “Alright.”
He wanted to say no, to go back to his room and suffer in silence, but he couldn’t. He needed to be with another human being right now, to feel their warmth next to him.
It helped that it was (Name), one of the only people he could tolerate.
The two carried their cups to the couch, (Name) offering him a throw blanket before grabbing one of her own.
“Let’s see what’s on…”
(Name) turned on the TV, the last channel on being the news.
“It’s been reported that a member of The Phantom Troupe has been spotted downtown, causing havoc. Citizens are warned to stay indoors-“
(Name) changed the channel quickly.
“That’s unfortunate but-“
She was interrupted by the sound of his cup crashing onto the floor, the man standing up and rushing to the laundry room.
When he returned, she could see his eyes flowing a bright red.
“I’m leaving to check out that report.”
(Name) stood, grabbing his sleeve. “Kurapika, you shouldn’t, it’s late and you’re not fully recovered y-“
Kurapika whipped his head around, his enraged face enough to make her let go and shrink away. It he wasn’t so angry, he’d feel awful that he could cause such a reaction in her. Calming himself enough to talk without screaming, he gave her a small smile.
“… I’ll be careful. Don’t wait up for me.”
He left without another word.

Killua woke up to (Name) shaking him.
“Come on, get ready. We’ve got to be at the airport in 30 minutes.”
He sat up and rubbed his eyes, pausing.
“I don’t sense Kurapika. Did he leave or something?”
Killua finally got a good look at (Name). Her hair was a mess, and her eyes were red with dark bags decorating them.
“He… it was reported that a member of the Phantom Troupe was causing trouble down town, so he left to see if it was true.”
Killua jumped up. “When did he leave?”
(Name) sighed. “At around 1 am, so 6 hours ago. He…”
She wrapped her arms around herself. “He hasn’t answered my calls.”
“Did you get any sleep?”
(Name) shook her head. “No, but I just had a cup of coffee so I should be fine. I’m taking a nap after we pick up Gon, so don’t worry.”
Killua nodded, pulling out his phone to text Gon. The two may need to go searching for the blonde later.
The two got dressed, (Name) downing another cup of coffee before getting in her car.
“We’ll pick up some breakfast after getting Gon.”
“Alright. He said he’s getting his luggage now.”
The two sat in silence, the only sound a random pop song playing on the radio.
It didn’t take long for them to reach the airport. As they waited outside for Gon, (Name) attempted to call Kurapika again.
Killua frowned when she pocketed her phone.
“He’s still not answering?”
She shook her head. “No. He’s… he’s probably busy.”
This wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. Killua remembered the countless phone calls him and Leorio had made when Gon had been hospitalized.
If only Kurapika knew (Name) had been in critical condition too.
Killua hoped that if he had known, he would have come. That hope was the only reason he was able to allow Kurapika in (Name)’s home.
She’d begged them not to tell him, though she wouldn’t say why.
“Killua, (Name)!”
The two looked up to see Gon sprinting towards him, his luggage flying through the air behind him.
The boy jumped into the air, pulling them both into a hug so fast they all toppled over.
“Hey, careful! (Name) could of gotten hurt!” Killua scolded while squeezing Gon tight.
“I’m fine, Gon you’ve gotten taller!”
The three laughed, Gon pulling (Name) to her feet. “Aunt Mito says she’s going to put a brick on my head to keep me from getting taller than her.”
Killua stood as well, pausing when he stood in front of Gon.
“I have to agree with her. You’re taller than me now!”
It was true, Gon had grown to be an inch taller than his white haired friend.

He smacked a hand over her mouth.
“(Name)! I eat plenty of vegetables.”
“Do chocolate robots count as vegetables?” Gon asked, giving him a sly grin.
“Shut up, both of you.”

(Name) and the boys entered a small diner, Leorio waiting for them inside.
“(Name), Gon, Killua! It’s been forever!”
The man pulled them into another hug, Killua squirming free.
“It’s only been three months.”
“That’s way too long!”
(Name) laughed. “It’s going to be nice to finally have the whole gang back together!”
Killua and Leorio shared a look.
“I heard Kurapika was in town. Where’s he at now?”
Killua shot him a look, shaking his head.
“Ah. Did something happen?”
The three sat an a random booth, the boys sitting together on one side and the adults on the other.
“He… last night he saw the news reporting there was a member of the Phantom Troupe in town.”
Leorio groaned. “I saw that too, I was just hoping he wouldn’t. What, did he go to check it out?”
She nodded. “He left at around 1 am and hasn’t answered any of my calls.”
“I’m sure he’s fine, Kurapika is strong. We should try not to worry.”
Gon wasn’t wrong, but Leorio knew (Name) would worry anyways.
“Didn’t get much sleep last night?”
Leorio glanced from the dark circles under her eyes to her nails tapping against the table.
“Yeah. Was…”
“Waiting for him to get home?”
She nodded, picking up her menu. “I’m alright though. I’ll take a nap and be good as new.”
Gon noticed Killua frown. The boy nudged his friend.
“Is something up?”
“… no, just…”
He sighed. “Just worried about the current situation.”
Gon hummed, leaning his head against the table. “We can go look for him later if he doesn’t show up by lunch time.”
The waitress took their orders, leaving the group in silence.
“Hey, why don’t we have a get together to celebrate Kurapika being in town?”
Gon didn’t seem to get that the man was a sore subject right now.
“We can have a sleepover at (Name)’s! It’ll be just like the Hunter exam when we all slept together on the airship!”
(Name) grimaced. “Ugh, sleeping on the floor then made my back hurt so bad I thought I was going to die.”
“That’s because you’re a baby. We were fine.”
“Well I’m sorry I wasn’t raised to be an assassin that can sleep anywhere or a mountain boy that could sleep on a bed of nails and wake up refreshed.”
Killua snickered, Gon tilting his head. “I haven’t slept on a bed of nails, but I have slept on a bunch of rocks.”
“My point stands.”
The three laughed, Gon joining in their laughter after a moment.
“Alright, we’ll have a sleepover. How about tomorrow night?”
Leorio nodded. “That’s okay with me. I’m free the rest of the week.”
(Name) leaned against her seat, humming in thought. “I’ll have to go grocery shopping tomorrow morning, then. Everyone send me a list of what you want, including snacks and finger foods.”

Leorio joined the group at (Name)’s, following behind her in his car.
The boys requested to ride with him, Leorio saying he needed to stop to get gas before coming home.
(Name) exited her car, carrying a takeout box she’d ordered for Kurapika. When she reached her door, she paused.
It was open.
And there was a trail of blood leading through the doorway.
(Name) stared at it for a split second, her eyes going wide.
She set the box down by the door and walked in, careful not to step in the blood.
She could sense someone was here, but their presence was faint. (Name) followed the trail, her heart thumping against her chest as she climbed up the stairs.
She already knew who would be at the end of the trail, all could she do was hope he would be alive.
(Name) stopped in front of the bathroom door, the sound of the shower turning off causing her to pause.
She could hear someone approach the door, then walk away again. (Name) waited a few minutes before the door finally opened.
“(Name), you’re home.”
Kurapika stood before her, his hair still wet from his shower. She stared up at him, tears falling from her eyes.
“You… all that blood…”
“None of it was mine, if that’s what you’re wondering.”
An instant relief washed over her, the grip she’d had on her shirt relaxing.
“I see. You’re okay, then?”
“Mostly. Just… tired.”
(Name) leaned her head against his chest, the man becoming stiff as a board. His hands stayed at his sides as his eyes bore into her.
He wanted to embrace her and apologize for making her worry. From just one look he could tell she hadn’t listened and had stayed up waiting for him.
“You wouldn’t answer me, I was so scared…”
She gripped the front of his shirt, tears soaking into the fabric.
“I… it was hard to answer with my hands covered in blood.”
(Name) sniffled before pulling back and rubbing the tears from her eyes. He’d done it, he’d made her cry again. Just how many tears would he make her cry over him?
“(Name) we’re- HOLY SHIT IS THAT BLOOD!?”
The sound of several sets of footsteps running inside made (Name) sigh. “It’s okay, I’m upstairs.”
Killua was the first one there, grabbing (Name)’s arms and looking over her. “You’re not hurt? Wait is that Kurapika?”
“Kurapika!!!”
Gon launched into the air and hugged the blonde, who laughed and patted his head. (Name) watched with a halfhearted smile. She wish he’d give her some affection too.
Kurapika explained the situation to the other three, the boys nodding along.
“So, was it really a member of the Phantom Troupe.”
“No, just a copycat.”
(Name) walked downstairs carrying the bathroom laundry hamper. His clothes had been completely soaked with blood, and would need to be hand washed before going in the washing machine.
Kurapika sighed, rubbing his temple. “I dealt with them as quickly as possible, but… I needed a moment to calm down.”
“(Name) didn’t sleep last night, you know. Could have at least called her.”
Kurapika frowned. “I left my phone at home.”
“That’s…”
(Name) looked at him with confusion. “That’s not what you said earlier…”
The four stared at him.
“Why didn’t you call us? Be honest.”
Leorio put a hand on the blonde’s shoulder, his eyebrows furrowed.
“I… I couldn’t. I didn’t want to admit I was tricked into thinking a Troupe member was actually here.”
(Name) sat down next to him and squeezed his hand. “It’s alright. Just don’t do it in the future, okay?”
Gon and Killua shared a look. Kurapika hasn’t been completely honest, and they could tell.
‘If she knew I didn’t call her because I couldn’t stand to hear her worry over me, she’d think I was an asshole. Who the fuck gets angry over their loved ones caring about them?’
Kurapika ate his takeout silently as the others chatted, only stopping when they mentioned something about a sleepover. He coughed on his food, (Name) patting his back.
“A what?”
“A sleepover! Since you’re in town, we wanted to celebrate! We’re going to have a sleepover like we did on the airship.”
“That wasn’t really a sleepover, also I got drooled on by (Name).”
She gasped and smacked Kurapika’s shoulder. “You said you wouldn’t tell anyone!”
He tried to keep a neutral expression, but his eyes twinkled with amusement. “Did I? I don’t seem to remember that.”
She folded her arms to her chest and leaned against the couch with a huff.
The others laughed, even Kurapika joining in.
“Ugh. I’m going to take a nap, wake me up before 3 pm.”
She stood, leaving the four alone.

The group of four sat in silence for a while, Kurapika staring down at his lap with tired eyes.
“You’ve been MIA for a while.”
Leorio was the one to break the silence.
“(Name) wasn’t sure why you hadn’t updated her. She had to call me to get any kind of update on your well being.” Leorio stated, running his hands through his hair.
“I… I’ve been busy. It’s dangerous for me to be contacting too many people.”
“Is that the excuse you’re using?”
“We’ve all been really worried…”
Killua and Gon sat together in front of the TV, having turned around to face Kurapika.
“I know. I’m… sorry.”
Killua looked him up and down. “You should be saying that to (Name). I haven’t forgot what you said to her.”
Kurapika froze.
He hadn’t forgotten either. Not for a single day since.
“… I can’t apologize for that. It would be dishonest.”
“You didn’t have any trouble lying to her earlier.”
The blondes eyes widened.
“What was the real reason you didn’t call her, huh?”
Kurapika shook his head. “It’s none of your business.”
“If it’s affecting (Name), I think it is.”
Killua and Kurapika had a stand off, the two glaring at each other. Gon stepped in between the two.
“Hey, let’s not fight! Maybe Kurapika has his own reasons for not sharing why he couldn’t call her. Let’s just get along, okay?”
Killua huffed and sat back down. “Whatever.”
Kurapika stood up. “Im going to nap as well. Talk to you all later.”
He left, closing his bedroom door behind him.

Game Gear: keeps you busy till the train's here.
Full color screen, 8-bit graphics so vibrant they make your eyes tear. No one cared that it's just a smaller Master System, it had top tier games, so we put it into commission.
Stereo sound to listen, but only if you've got headphones: can't squeeze two speakers on something that predates iPhones.
Playing on the ride home - Dad's stuck in late night Brooklyn Bridge traffic, speed's a no-go: but I'm behind the wheel with Ayrton Senna racing in Monaco.
The glow of the screen, makes the back seat a party scene, the batteries running out now would be a bad dream - they drain faster than Sonic dying in "Sonic Spinball". Mom's got extra Duracells, she has it covered, so trust her.
Vanishing colored gems in "Columns" like Fruit Gushers.
"Fantasy Zone", a shooter with Lisa Frank syndrome, space combat so cute you don't wanna quit.
"Sonic the Hedgehog", where do I start with this? I admired Eggman's robot transformation gimmick, but roboticizing my animal friends is beyond my limit.
Doc mocks me with Cumming's Robotnik cartoon voice, because my head-canon for this game is multiple choice. Sally, Antione, Bunny,and Rotor are my back-up crew, gonna beat Robotnik, and all his Badniks too, and solve mechanical puzzles too tough for Nancy Drew.
The Doctor's sinister, his boss stages make my head spin, but in the name of great justice: I gotta fight him - powered by six double-A's of bottled lightning.
Loved my Game Gear, for playing in the dark; nothing came near, but its nemesis the Game Boy was one for Sega to fear. Nintendo's black-and-white screen made Sega get cocky, let their guard down, but Game Boy came swinging like Rocky.
Smaller price tag - which the parents loved. Needing less batteries fit budgets like a glove. Barely small enough to fit into a 90's kid's pocket, looks like a brick today, but back then, it was some hot kit. You know Mr. Yokoi's team was proud of it. And the batteries lasted a lot longer too, you could play all day hiding it under your desk at school.
And Sega boned their own ads by dissing Game Boy fans, instead of luring handheld gamers with an olive branch.
Wow. What a system, How could I not miss it? Nostalgia soaring high like "Space Harrier" missiles.
I showcase it on Twitch to help spread the word, sometimes it's new to even long-time Sega nerds. I'd talk forever on Game Gear, you know I like this. But my batteries are low, so it's time to split.

Fully Atlantean Aquaman: Pre COIE, Aquaman is as you probably know him from the movies: Born of Atlanna and lighthouse keeper Tom Curry. Post COIE, they introduce Aquaman as a character who was abandoned at birth for being blond. He was raised by dolphins before meeting Arthur Curry who taught him how to speak and do human stuff. Since new 52, this has been de-canonized and he is now movie-origin-aquaman again.
Titanseed Donna Troy: pre COIE, Wonder Girl was initially flashback Wonder Woman, then became a new character when the writer of the first Teen Titans comic didn't read Wonder Woman comics (and it showed). Eventually she was a girl Wonder Woman rescued from a fire who got powers from the other Amazons. Post COIE, Donna Troy has amnesia and does not know where she is from but it is revealed she is one of twelve children who were rescued by Titans of Myth, who gave them part of their powers and raised them on New Cronos in space, then took their memories away and jettisoned them to their original planets.
Fel Andar Hawkman: Pre COIE, silver age hawkman (the thanagarian) was a space cop from Thanagar coming to earth to capture Byth and also learn about police techniques. post COIE, katar was doing something else so he could not have taken place in silver age justice league adventures, so this was retconned to be Fel Andar, a thanagarian double agent who came to earth claiming he was Carter Hall (golden age hawkman)'s son. He betrays the JL during Invasion and also I think brainwashed his hawkgirl?
Literal-Fury powered Lyta Trevor and Helena Kosmatos: Pre COIE, Lyta was the daughter of Earth 2 Wonder woman and Steve Trevor (and helena did not exist). She had Amazon powers. Post COIE, Lyta gets her powers from the greek Furies, though she does not know that at first. They reveal that her biological mother (Helena Kosmatos) vowed revenge after she believed her nazi collaborator brother caused her mother's death, and she channeled Tisiphone. Helena at least can be fully taken over by Tisiphone, during which she is much more powerful, and also angry and murderous.
Byrne's Krypton: I was going to just say "Superman being literally the last son of Krypton" (no surviving Kryptonians besides him) but realized Byrne put in sooooooo many retcons. Anyway, he decided krypton was a very emotionless place and they didn't fuck, and superman was grown in a gestation chamber that literally birthed him on earth.
Atlantean Powergirl: In Earth 2, Kara (powergirl) is probably as you know her, she's from krypton but got to earth later. IIRC she was raised by Robots on a space ship but it's been a while since I read Infinity Inc. Post COIE, they have her be Arion's (a powerful mage from Atlantis in the past)... daughter? Grand daughter? Sadly I haven't read the comics that explained her origin.
Newbie Wonder Woman/George Perez's Wonder Woman and Themyscira: The main reason Donna's origin had to be changed was because Wonder Woman was completely relaunched - she was no longer around since Batman and Superman were, but came onto the scene as a superhero after Donna Troy as Wonder Girl was on Teen Titans. Perez also re-introduces Amazon lore, including the name Themyscira for paradise island.

1- What's the name of your AU if there is one? If no official name what would you call it?
Time Variant Authority/ Time Travel AU
2- What is the most prominent differing factor between your AU and the original source Material?
Time travel was discovered by The Creator, though he deemed it too powerful and catastrophic to use. Eclipse got his grubby little hands on it and just had it. Monty discovers it and is the first to use it.
3- What is your favorite character in the source material and who's your favorite character within your AU?
In canon I Miku is my favorite character xD, I just like the chaos she brings. In this AU my favorite character in this is Eclipse. He's more of an evil Solar actually and that's what's interesting to me.
4- Are any of the characters in a relationship (QPR, Romantic, Emotional, ect.)? If so what are the most defined ones you've built so far, and within the universe how did their bond come along?
There are canon romantic relationships. But I go into Eclipse's relationship with Puppet a lot, we see how they fell apart by his actions when he's time travelling. Monty and Moon's relationship is vital to the story, Moon is a kind of key character to the universe itself.
5-What 'fanfic tropes/fanfic tags' does your AU use?
Uhhhhhh I have no clue.
6-Do any characters within your AU have any disabilities (mental or physical)?
Monty has ADHD, Sun has anxiety and OCD, Moon is "eccentric", Eclipse is a sociopath, and Puppet has PTSD. Uhh idk what else.
7- Do any characters have familial bond amongst eachother? If so how strong are their bonds, and how did they come about?
The family bond is very important to this story. Eclipse is Lunar's father in this so their relationship is important. As the AU progresses Eclipse becomes addicted to time travel and the power he has being able to change time itself, he ends up isolating himself from Lunar and the rest of his family.
Sun and Moon were made by Creator, separating made Eclipse, he made Lunar, Earth is made by Creator. Bloodmoon and KC were never made/born, instead Moon, Eclipse, and Lunar have parts of the homicide code.
8- What are the ages of the characters in your au? Or are the ageless/immortal?
Robots (for the main variant of this AU). Everyone is adults except Lunar.
9- what's the general world like? Is it futuristic, modern, apocalyptic, post-apocalyptic, does it take place mainly in a coffee shop or something of the sort?
Starts out in the Pizzaplex, they're just doing their jobs. Moon dies actually, Monty time travels Eclipse follows him. Eclipse keeps doing it, changing the dimension as he pleases.
[Moon never invented portal travel, or doesn't until later. So nobody knew there were other dimensions, it was kinda just a theory Moon had.]
10 - are you working on any fanworks (fanfic, askblogs, rp blogs, animation, comics, ect.) about this au? If so link them!
I'd like to make a comic-type thing for this, but it will mostly be written out and released on Wattpad and AO3.
11 - What is the worst thing(s) that happened to a character(s)? Did they have a tough life, a loss, or anything of the sort? If so what? How did it affect them?
It starts out "happy". In the way of there isn't the craziness and adventures the canon has. There's just the Pizzaplex. I'll explain later in the story how the homicide code was an important thing earlier but is no longer as much anymore. Moon never fully trusts Eclipse, especially around people.
12 - what's the best thing(s) that happened to a character(s)? How did it affect them?
Uhhhh July 16th never happened. So yay. Maybe I'll add an adult Evelien. Creator doesn't appear as bad as he is in canon.
13 - Did you take any unique design choices for any of the characters? If so describe or show them off!
I plan to draw but for now have Gacha designs (the designs can/ might change)
14 - What character(s) in the AU have been worked on and built up the most and what are they like?
Eclipse is the main character, and kind of the villain in the story. I go into Lunar a lot too.
15 - What is your least favorite character in the source material, and what's your least favorite character in your au?
Vegeta. I love him, but I hate him. He's so cringe. Probably in the AU too, because I need some chaos.
16- Is there any major personality changes you made to the characters?
Lunar mostly. He's considered a kid but he matures a lot throughout the story. He's a lot more like his dad than he should be.
17 - What is the most 'out of character' thing in your AU?
Idk I try to keep them pretty close to the original scouse material?
18 - How long have you been working on this AU?
A few days tbh xD.
19 - Is there any OC's or self-inserts? If so what are they like and how do they affect the story?
I don't use OCs in fanfiction media.
20 - What inspired this AU?
There's somewhere in an Astral Spiff video (I think in a few) where he explains when doing tasks out of order in SB you have to be careful to not skip one of Moon's segments or he jumpscares you. That's been called TVA Moon, and the inspiration for this AU.
21 - Has your AU steered off of your original plan for it at all? If so do you like how its changed? If it stayed the same what's the base idea for it exactly?
I accidentally started writing it as a Human AU variant, so throughout the story you see two parallel dimensions. Both the Eclipses will technically meet.

Oh. Well, yeah, the human variant. And later when you're at the TVA you see hundreds of people time travelling.

No. It's very angst heavy. It starts with Moon's death, there is nothing comforting about this.

I have a bunch. I mostly write for my Main Human AU. I enjoyed working on it.

The reveal of TVA Moon. He just throws Eclipse on the ground and drags him through a portal. It's really funny, and the whole AU has always been about him even tho we follow Eclipse.

No. I just have only been working on this for a few days lol.

Dark probably. It's got angst, Eclipse destroying his life and dimension, hurting his family. Yeah :P

This is more so mentioned stobotnik, if you squint. But its sorta there so i though i'd use the tag regardless.
Anyways, heres a fic of robotnik not picking up on the fact that he's being flirted with:
Yes i work wood!... i'm a carpenter.
Robotnik was currently on a very important mission: social networking. A task he'd usually leave his assistant to take care of; but, considering the two of them needed money after his latest and greatest defeat stranded them in green hills, he'd have to do some of the work himself.
And working he went. He had already made several business cards for the handy service’s he had planned to provide, pinned down a social gathering where he could be given a chance to promote said business, and thanks to one annoyingly stupid deputy, he had gotten an invite.
It was a post wedding party where all invited guests were allowed to bring a plus one, and since Wade lacked a girlfriend, he was invited as his plus one.
Now all he had to do was socialize… which was immediately harder than he originally thought.
How stone could ever stand doing it was beyond him.
Robotnik was currently at the far end of the table the others were eating and drinking at, thinking. Planning a course of attack.
His last attempt to include himself in the conversation was a massive failure, with him having to go completely silent out of embarrassme- tactically retreat, but, it didn't dissuade him.
He was dr. Ivo fucking robotnik, a genuis, a revolutionary of the feild of robotics, hed figure it out… hopefully.
All he had to do was observed, plan, and strike when the time was ri-
Suddenly he felt a tap on his shoulder.
“Hey-”
“Ah!” Robotnik yelped, swirling around to see just who dared to touch him. It was a blond women, who looked to be somewhere in her 30’s. She was wearing a quite revealing black dress, and holding a glass of wine that looked untouched.
The two of them stared at each other for a moment.
“Are, you okay?” She queried.
Robotnik scoffed.
“More than fine.” He huffed, straightening up a bit as he smoothed out the lapels of his jacket. As much as he wanted to scream at her, he needed business, and she had come to him willingly… something he could definitely use.
For some reason she found his reaction funny as she chuckled a bit.
“Right…. Hey whats your name?” She looked him up and down.
“Uuh” robotnik struggled to think up a fake name. “Ee-vo.”
She snorted.
“Ee-vo huh? How exotic.”
Robotnik blinked at her for a moment.
“I suppose it is.”
The woman leaned in.
“Say, where are you from?”
The question caught robotnik off guard, as it was strangly personal, but this was the best conversation hes had for the whole party soo…
“ireland.” He lied.
“Oh so your a foreigner?” She raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips.
“uh, Not necessarily, no. I was born in Ireland, then raised in the United states.” He hoped his attempt to cover up his shitty lie didn't seem too suspicious.. and apparently it didn't as the woman leaned in closer, her hand holding her head up.
“Wow.” She slightly whispered, now taking a sip of her wine. “and what do you do for work?”
Robotnik paused, now wondering if she was a government spy sent by G.U.N, because of all the personal questions she was asking. But..
“Woodworker, plumber, electrician, mechanic, you name it, I do it.” He recited, finally glad that he got to use that stupid slogan stone made him make.
For some reason this made the woman grin.
“So you're good with your hands.” She said rather cheekily, taking a sip of her wine.
It was a rather odd question… but- “oh please, i'm more than just good, im perfect.”
“Oh Really?”
“Yes really. I've been in the game for decades.” He hoped listing his track record would make her more likely to hire him.
It worked like a charm, as the woman seemed to perk up a bit more at his answer.
“Can you prove it?” She asked with a raised eyebrow.
Robotnik tapped his chin. Shit, he simply couldn't let this chance slip by him… but, then again, how could he prove it?...
“I could show you.” He said in another, regular, moment of brilliance. “Give you a proper hands-on experience.”
The woman giggled at his offer.
“Oh my, and where would that be? In my bedroom?”
Robotnik blinked, and then blinked again. The people in this town were weird.
“Well.” He trailed off, tapping his chin. “I suppose if I could get my power tools in there I could make it work.”
The lady looked confused for a moment, but after a while, she seemed to perk back up. A massive grin on her face when she did.
“Wow, getting… “tools” involved so soon?” She snorted. “I like it. See you at my place at 12.” She winked, handing him her number on a piece of paper.
Honestly, robotnik didnt know what the fuck she was going on about, about “getting tools involved so soon,” but buissness was buissness.
He handed her his business card.
“See you then.”
The lady, rather quickly, snatched the card out of his hand and stuffed it in her bra. Robotnik was going to say something about it, but before he could, she was already gone like the wind. Giving him a little wink before she completely vanished.
“Weird.” Robotnik muttered to himself, before going back to planning on how he could convince more people at the rundown little party to hire him.
Not realizing he was going to have a loong conversation with Stone about what just happened afterwards.

johann chu wasn't the one to be expressive of his feelings, and understand his feelings. hence why he felt bemused about [name], they certainly made a huge imprint on him.
yet shavee had also had an impact on him. but [name]'s case was slightly different. even if he had missed an opportunity to have her, it was okay now. he was healing a bit.
when they were chatting and johann had slipped this information to [name] and some other emotional turmoil, he yet puts training first once again.
nonetheless, all was well in the end. it was night and johann thought of something. [name] was doing quite well in their training, but he heard from a little birdy that they weren't quite doing well in draconic history.
maybe stress was getting to them? either way, as their senior, he felt obligated to help them out. it wasn't in a negative light, but he somehow felt like it.
as they were conversing, he then brought up their history course. [name] surprisingly did mention how they were struggling to understand a little and he offered to help them.
they asked where the both of them should go and he bluntly said at his dorm. [name] was confused at first why they wouldn't be doing it at the library.
he simply said it might be a bit troublesome for them as to referring to the girls that swooned over him, even if some girls do have self-control, he still didn't want to risk it.
and he wanted to spend more time with [name] not in training. he wanted to know more about them. miscellaneous things would suffice.
as the day passed, it was finally the time they decided to meet up that johann proposed. he asked [name] to meet him at the basketball court so he could escort them to his dorm.
when they finally came, he started to escort [name]. it was a bit awkward at first, given how the girls they passed by would look at them in envy.
[name] would try and flip them off by either going to scratch their cheek, getting something out of their eyes, or tucking their hair behind their ear using the middle finger.
but johann caught on and said that it doesn't matter and just ignore them for the best. they slightly grumbled, but begrudgingly complied as he is their senior and they didn't want to hear a lecture from a certain someone.
johann sighed, slightly amused but it went unnoticed. as soon as they entered the lionheart's club base, there susie was. she exchanged words with johann until she spotted [name].
she then asked if they were going to join, but johann answered for [name] that they were just looking around and dismissed susie. that made them confused, but thankful either way for their senior for answering for them.
he then led [name] to his dorm, and there they both discussed where they were struggling a bit. they shyly confessed that even tho they could've said that they would just research it, they were thankful for his help.
they can, but it was much more understandable if someone was there teaching it because they could get their possible unanswered questions answered.
johann nodded understanding. it is preferred that most should have a study group so there's a chance someone knows the subject they're studying and can answer simple questions.
as time passed, [name] started to understand more. they scribbled in their notebook while listening to johann. "so.. only the light king, priest- 'inazami' possessed equal power to nidhogg?"
johann nodded, confirming the statement was true, [name] scribbled again and continued, "but she also failed to rebel and renounce his position.. right?"
"yes. you are correct, i must say i am impressed by you..- not only you are quite the fast learner when we train, but also a good listener." [name] scratched their head a bit, "eh.. haha. it's just that i- wait no, you're a good guide and tutor is all.."
'and i like hearing your voice..' [name] felt a bit awkward and looked at the time, it was getting a bit late. they then start to stand up from their comfortable position.
johann was a bit confused at this sudden action, he still wanted to ask some questions. the not-too-personal ones. he couldn't think straight this time and grabbed [name]'s wrist.
"where.. are you going?"
[name]'s eyes widened a bit and looked at him.
"johann?"
his grip on [name] wavered a bit, his action seemingly getting him off-guard. he then loosened his grip and backed away. he pondered about something.
"..i don't know what this feeling is… i feel a sense of euphoria when i see you or… sometimes everything's better when you're here."
"huh?" [name] looked at him dumbfoundedly.
"i'm really glad you're here, but at the same time, i'm not because i'm scared. i'm scared i might lose you too."
"johann senpai? what are you-"
"i hope you know how much you mean to me. i wish you could see in you what i see in you."
[name]'s eyes widen at the sudden statement. they stood in their place shocked. "i… i don't understand you johann.." they ask, their brows furrowing in confusion.
"i don't either. but.."
"i'll hear you out on this. but i don't want it to be too long."
"..why?"
"…"
johann looked at [name] in anticipation, yet they stayed quiet. he asked once again, and [name] suspired.
"because… i don't want to make more assumptions and fall harder."
"why would you fall harder..?-"
"johann senpai, i've had harboured feelings for you. it feels off sometimes. i don't know if- if it's okay given your circumstance and mine."
he looked at [name] expectantly, yet stunned. he didn't expect his junior to also like him. but his brows furrowed. when [name] decided to speak once more, as he had an unanswered question.
"it's not just an infatuation i have for you, it's not just any epitome that i admire. but the way, you are you senpai. i've never loved anyone the way i love you before..''
[name] then took a deep breath before continuing.
"i'd accept your flaws in any way possible, i'd try and understand you better with how you act and maybe i understand.. but i don't. i don't understand how you feel about me. i appreciate you for you-"
"and i do too."
the sudden intervention has [name] stunned. they decided to look at johann, just to see him furrowing his eyebrows. his grasp went back to [name]'s wrist and slightly pulled them closer, but not harshly.
"i like spending time with you. it's nice. i feel calmer when i’m with you. it’s weird. i never thought i could feel like this, but you showed up. now, it’s like i don’t wanna go on knowing i might lose the feeling. and i might end up losing you."
[name]'s hands slightly quivered as his voice wavered. he felt their hands slightly shaking and he held it with the hand he grasped their wrist with.
"..are you okay [name]?.."
[name]'s breath hitches for a bit before taking a deep breath from their mouth and shaking their head, "yeah.. i'm- i'm fine johann."
"no. you aren't fine, did.. did i say something wrong perhaps..?"
johann squeezed their hand gently and rubbed circles on it, this action made [name] tense but relaxed a bit after they snapped out of their trance.
"wha- no!- no, you didn't. i just-"
johann took both of [name]'s hands and held them close to his chest, making the both of them close to each other, but not too close.
"i'm sorry if that caught you off-guard. i just couldn't-"
he was cut off as [name] hugged him and nuzzled their head close. they hummed to themselves and hugged him tighter,
"i like spending time with you too.."
"..then spend the night with me"
"of course."

Marcia is my (french) 80s music inspired baby ! She's an engineer of the 327th and the exact definition of a party boy. Gender is just glitter they use as makeup and xey collect pronouns like pretty rocks. He's a bleeding heart chewing bumble gum and drinking the most colorful cocktails available.
I adore zir. She's always in my mind xD
They're loud but care with their entire heart. Vae can be brought into tinkering prank material, vae's a very talented engineer (but she's very expensive). And zir engineer siblings always keep strawberry and chocolate ice cream around because it's the heartbreak comfort food (Marcia falls in love very very easily. Alas she's not always lucky)
I want to write a meeting between her and some of our favorite Torrent troopers. Because there is no way she didn't hit it off with at least Fives. And I'm also thinking of finding Marcia a Corrie partner 🤔🤔
I sadly didn't found a satisfying picrew that was at the same time cute, with 80's vibes outfits, and having both a haircut similar to the one Marcia has and a moustache option :( I might be asking for too much, I know x'D (the closest I did for now was a cute picrew I shared here but it doesn't have Marcia's hair)

The Cantina Ghosts are a music band composed of Whistler (banjo and harmonica + "percussions", deployed with the Wolfpack, more country music, he/him), Ivory (medic in the 41st, pianist, more classic music, she/her), Lydian (Ivory's batchmate, was under Mace Windu's battalion but was the first of the three to desert, trumpet plus some others instruments, jazz music) and Hadil Ziveri, the orphaned Mirilian-Twi'lek girl that Lydian adopt.
During the Empire, they are a very mysterious and famous band that appears in various cantinas and bars across the Galaxy before disappearing again. Every spacer knew about them. Or at least knew the name of the band. Some even tell tales of the time they had been lucky enough to see them perform. An entire section of the holonet is dedicated at following their apparitions. The legends are very thick around them. Nobody knows their name, nobody knows who they are (especially not Lydian who even their pronouns are a complete mystery).
But back into the safety of their ship ? They're a family simply going through the days little by little. Hadil and Lydian learn to cook together, and both are pretty good at it. They love to test recipes from Hadil's different cultures and recreate as much as possible the flavors of her childhood. Sometimes Whistler or Ivory will try to learn too, but it's mostly their quiet moments for just the two of them.
Whistler took a liking to engineering while learning how to repair their pretty ship who's also their home. He's also the one that had created Lydian's earring aid. But regarding the prosthetics of his little siblings he doesn't really have much to do, Lydian doesn't really like to wear their aid (the sounds are all wrong, better to barely hear anything than hear robotic, flat sounds only), and Ivory can tuned her leg prosthetic herself, thank you very much.
And Ivory took a liking to piloting. It's more because she like the sight of the stars from the cockpit than she like piloting in itself (even if it feels meditative too). None of them end up really passionate about piloting really. Especially not when they have to swiftly escape from imperial patrols, but it doesn't happen often (they stay carefully out of the most troublesome areas).

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Boo! I come out of the blue to give you Star’s first day at the daycare.
Note: Star is using she/her pronouns in this one. But only because they’re 5 years old and don’t know what nonbinary is yet.

Star didn’t really like loud noises, or bright lights, or new people. So it was no surprise that as she stood in front of the daycare doors, after walking through the loudest, most colorful mall ever, she started bawling.
Her mother, Esperanza, leaned down to comfort her, wrapping her in a hug. “Don’t worry baby. I’ll be back to pick you up before dinner time, ok?”
Star shook her head. “I want you to stay!” She cried. “It’s scary here.”
Her mother sighed. Picking her up so she could look through the daycare window. “How about we pick someone safe for you to talk to first? That way you won’t be overwhelmed.”
Star rubbed her eyes. “O-ok.” She said, hiccuping slightly from how she’d been crying.
She glanced at the window, looking for a kid who looked nice. But she couldn’t focus on any one child for long. There were just too many. She couldn’t count them all. After a few seconds of looking over the kids, Star shifted her focus to look for adults instead. But to her surprise, she couldn’t see any. “Where are all the grown-ups?” Star said panicking slightly. Who was taking care of all these kids? Who was gonna take care of her? Was she gonna be stuck here all alone?!
Her mother simply smiled gently. “Don’t worry. This place has something even cooler than grown-ups.” She pointed to a corner of the daycare, where Star could just barely see a lanky yellow figure sitting at one of the craft tables with a couple of kids. It was really tall, and its face was surrounded by little triangles that made it look like one of those smiling suns that you would find in children’s coloring books. It certainly didn't look human.
She squinted at it. “Is that a robot?” she asked.
Her mother hummed affirmatively. “He sure is.”
Star peered at him curiously through the glass. “Can I say hi to him first?”
Her mother nodded. “That sounds like a great idea.” she set Star back down in front of the daycare doors. “You ready to go in?” she asked, swiping her daycare pass on the reader beside the door.
Star hesitated for a moment before nodding.
“Do you want me to stay with you for a few minutes?”
Star thought about that. On one hand, she really didn't want to be in this new place alone. But on the other hand, she had already kept her mother for long enough, she would probably end up late for work if she stayed any longer.
“I’ll be ok.” She said after a moment. Her mother opened the door for her and gave her one last hug before sending her through the wooden double doors. The doors closed with a heavy thunk behind her leaving her alone in a sea of strangers.
Star looked around searching for the yellow robot she’d seen. He had finished his craft activity and was now alone at the table, cleaning up. She walked over to him timidly, trying not to make eye contact with anyone.
He didn’t look at her and she had to gather her courage to say “Hi.” The word was little more than a squeak but the robot heard it, finally turning toward her.
“Why hello, new friend. I don’t think I’ve ever met you before. Is this your first time here?” He asked. His voice was bright and bubbly, but it was also calm enough that Star wasn’t unnerved by it.
Star nodded. Not saying anything quite yet.
Sun smiled, or well, he looked like he couldn’t do anything other than smile, but his body language showed he was excited to meet her. “I hope you like it here so far. What’s your name?”
Star shuffled her feet and gave him her name.
“That’s such a pretty name. You can call me Sun. Or Sundrop, or Sunny, or any other nickname you can think of!”
Star faltered at his enthusiasm. Although she supposed it made sense that a robot named Sun would be so sunny. “I think I’ll just stick to Sun.” Star said.
Sun nodded. “That’s a-ok. Do you like it here so far?”
Star looked down. “It’s ok I guess. It’s really bright, and loud. Hurts my head.” She didn’t know what she expected Sun to do about that. But she wanted to tell him anyway.
Sun covered his mouth with his hands, humming in thought. “Do you want to go to the quiet corner?” He asked.
Star tilted her head. “There’s a quiet corner?”
Sun nodded enthusiastically. “Of course, it’s also the naptime area. But I like to let kids rest in there if they need it."
Star hummed. "Where is it?"
Sun waved his hand. "Follow me he said, leading Star toward a corner that was filled with blankets, pillows, and other similarly soft things. It looked kind of like a blanket fort. Cozy, dim, quiet. Star sat down in the middle of it all, fidgeting with the edge of one of the blankets. "Can you stay?"
Sun covered his eternal smile with his hands. “I wish I could little star. But there are lots more little ones who need my attention." He uncovered his smile and touched his pinky to his forehead then flicked it away. “How about this?" He pulled something from his pocket and pushed it into Star’s hands. “It’s a little me plushie. That way you won't miss me too much.” He handed her a little yellow candy as well. “And here’s something to make you feel better!”
Star hugged the plushie to her chest and popped the candy in her mouth. It tasted like a batch of lemonade that someone had put way too much sugar in. “Thank you.” She muttered.
Sun nodded and then his attention was pulled away from her as two kids started fighting, causing a ruckus.
Star sat back against the pillows, running her hands over the soft texture of the Sun plush as she sucked on her lemon candy. The rays were crinkly, she liked that.
Star found she had a lot more energy after she finished her candy. She was still scared to leave but now she was having trouble sitting still. She ended up wandering over to the only empty corner. There was a shelf there that was empty save for a single box.
She pulled the box off the shelf, smiling when she opened it to find an assortment of legos. Her favorite, probably because really liked to make things, usually things that moved. Legos were perfect for that.
Star fiddled with the blocks for a bit not trying to make anything in particular. She ended up with a little car that would be able to move on its own if she had any rubber bands. She thought for a moment before taking her hair out of the low ponytail it had been in, letting it hang around her shoulders. She wrapped the tie around a mechanism on the bottom of the car before putting the whole thing on the floor, pulling it back, and letting go. It shot forward, bumping into the Lego box and flipping over.
Star heard someone clapping behind her. She turned, slightly started, to see Sun, praising her for her haphazardly thrown-together toy. "That was so cool! Glad to see you're feeling better!" He tapped his fingers to his mouth. "Do you want a snack? It's snack time!"
Star hummed, despite the candy giving her energy, it didn't actually fill her up. She nodded and Sun held out his hands, a silent request to pick her up. She shook her head at that and Sun shrugged, letting her follow him to the tables instead. The rest of the children were already there. It seemed Star was the last to know it was snack time.
She didn't really mind other than the fact that now she had to sit between two kids she didn't know. She just ignored them as Sun left to grab everyone’s snacks. She wasn't interested in making friends at the moment anyway. Maybe tomorrow.
Eventually, Sun came back and wiped all the kid's hands with wet wipes before giving each of them a Glamrock-themed Lunchable (Star’s was Sun-themed), along with some sort of fruit and a juice box.
As soon as Sun left Star grimaced. She didn't like lunchables. They always had weird textures. This one was the one where you could make ham and cheese sandwiches out of crackers. It came with an Oreo. Star sighed. She guessed the crackers and cookie were ok. She wasn't gonna touch the other stuff though.
She nibbled on her food and nearly finished her juice-box before snack time ended. She noticed it hadn't lasted very long. Maybe this one had started late or something. She quickly finished her juice-box as Sun came over to clean up the tables.
Once everything was clean Sun waved his hands above his head, raising his voice in order to get everyone's attention. "Do you all know what time it is?"
One kid raised their hand. "The end of snack time?"
Sun laughed. “Technically true. But not what I meant. I meant it’s time to say hello to Moon.”
There were scattered groans and a few replies of “I’m not tired.”
Sun wagged his finger. “Well that's not very nice to Moon now is it? He's been waiting to see you all, all day.”
Most of the kids who had complained said sorry and Sun looked satisfied with that. “Now, Moon seems to be sleeping right now. Do you all know how to wake him up?”
Another smattering of responses, most of them something along the lines of “Turn out the lights!” Or “Wake up Moon!”
Sun laughed. “That’s exactly right!” He said, clapping his hands. “But first we all have to be in the nap area, follow me little sunbeams!”
He led them all to the quiet corner, letting them settle down before shaking the bells on his wrists to grab everyone’s attention.
Star didn’t really like that sound, but she didn’t say anything about it.
“Are we ready to wake Moon, little sunbeams? Do you all know what to say?”
Only about half the kids knew what to say. “Wake up, Moon!” They yelled excitedly.
Sun nodded. “Now everyone together, on the count of three. One, two, three!”
“WAKE UP MOON!”
Star said it too, but didn’t yell like the rest of the kids seemed so fond of doing. And then she was blind. The lights had gone out.
She heard the clicking of grinding gears and then silence for a second as her vision adjusted slightly.
She saw red eyes.
Star stifled a sound of fear, although she did hear a couple of scared gasps from other children. She did make a sound a second later as the ceiling started glowing with stars and clouds. The previously red eyes shifted to a deep soft blue as the person they belonged to was illuminated by glow-in-the-dark stars.
“Hello, little nightlights,” Moon said. His voice was soft, calming. He sounded like he'd be good at singing lullabies.
Some of the kids said ‘Hello’ back. Star guessed those were the ones who had been here before. She noticed there weren’t very many.
“Were all my precious nightlights nice to Sunny today?” Moni asked. He was crouched low to the ground now, almost eye level with the children.
There was a chorus of yeses.
“Good, no naughty children today. How many of you aren’t tired? Not even the slightest bit sleepy.”
Everyone’s hands went up. Star raised hers hesitantly.
Moon chuckled. “I see nobody played very hard today. That’s just as well, makes it easier for Sunny.” He pulled out a handful of dark blue candies. “As a treat for being so nice to Sun, each of you can have a Moondrop.” He said, tilting his faceplate. “But only after you lay down.”
Kids rushed to find their friends and lay next to them, some even going the extra mile and pretending they were already asleep.
Star found a little beanbag that she made her own, huddling into it with a blanket she had found on the way there. Moon went around and handed each kid a Moondrop.
Star took hers with a thank you, popping the gummy candy into her mouth. It tasted like blue raspberry, but had an aftertaste like medicine. She ignored it. She was suddenly much too tired to worry about that anyway. She curled up on the beanbag she had chosen as a sleeping spot, closing her eyes as a soft song started playing. She didn’t bother checking where it came from, she was already fast asleep.

Star woke up to a pounding in her head. She whimpered, opening her eyes and seeing stars. Glow-in-the-dark stars. Where was she again? She sat up, looking around. Jungle gym, ball pit, aforementioned glowing stars…
The new daycare. She remembered now. She kind of wished she hadn’t, all this thinking was making her head hurt all the more.
She heard a voice behind her. “What are you doing awake little star? It’s past your bedtime.”
Star turned abruptly, sucking in a breath through her teeth when that sent spikes of pain through her head. Moon crouched next to her. His ever-present smile was kinda creepy in the dim light, but any unease Star may have felt about that was washed away with Moon’s next words.
“Are you ok, little star?” He looked her up and down, eyes glowing a little brighter for a second. “You have a temperature.” He said.
Star groaned. “Head hurts.” She told him helpfully.
Moon hummed. “Sun, how long ago did you give this child a sundrop?” He said. It didn’t sound like he was talking to Star anymore. He was silent for a second before making a frustrated sound. “That’s too close to naptime. We’ve talked about this.” Another pause. Moons huffed. You better be.” He said, finally turning his attention back to Star. She had her hands to her temples, trying to ease some of the pain.
Moon sighed. “Do you think you could get back to sleep?” He asked.
Star tapped her thumb to her index and middle finger, the sign for no. She knew plenty of simple signs for when she was having trouble talking.
Moon hummed. “Do you want a cold cloth?”
Star nodded with a mumbling hum of affirmation and Moon left for a couple minutes, coming back with an ice pack wrapped in a washcloth.
Star took it in one hand and pressed it to her head, sighing as the icy cold soothed her headache. She reached her free hand, making grabby hands at Moon. He was made of metal, and metal was usually cold. Cold cuddles sounded really nice right about now.
Moon obliged, taking Star into his arms and letting her lay in his lap and wrap her arms around his waist. He kept the cold cloth pressed against her head as his music box started up.
Star pressed her ear against Moon’s chassis. She knew this song. She hummed faintly as Moon sang along softly.
“Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.”
By the time the music box its last notes, Star has fallen back to sleep.

The next time Star woke up Moon was nowhere in sight. She has been placed back on her beanbag and tucked in. Her head didn’t hurt anymore and she might’ve thought the whole thing had been a dream if not for the now warm cold cloth that was lying next to her.
Star looked around. The lights were on again, but they must not have been on for long because Star was far from the last person to wake up. She could see 5 or six other kids who were still tucked in and snoring. As for the rest of the kids, Star could hear them playing and laughing and running around chasing each other. She saw one kid touch another and yell “TAG!” Before booting in the opposite direction.
Star laughed. So that’s what was going on. She got up from her place in the quiet corner. She wanted to play too. Maybe she could get Sun!
She tried to stay in the vicinity of whoever was it, hoping they’d notice her. She also kept a close eye on Sun, so when she did get tagged she’d be able to run straight for him.
Right now Sun was hiding behind one of the play structures with a couple of other kids. It was a straight shot if Star reached through the bars.
She just has to get tagged first.
She stepped a little closer to the kid who was currently it. A little boy who wasn’t very fast and looked like he wanted his turn at being it to be over already. “If you tag me, I could get Sun.” Star whispered, hoping Sun couldn’t hear her. The boy turned to look at her before smiling and nodding. He gave Star a high five and Star was already running before he could finish saying tag.
She made it to the play structure in record time, reaching through the bars to touch Sun early on the chest. “TAG!” She declared.
Sun gasped in surprise before looking down at the two kids who had been hiding with him. They shrieked and ran, laughing all the while.
Star ran too. She didn’t know if Sun allowed tag-backs and she wasn’t about to find out.
Sun stated it for a suspiciously long time, often getting almost close enough to tag a kid before letting them slip just out of his grasp. He did eventually tag someone, Star noticed it was someone who hadn't been tagged yet, and the game continued. Although Sun got tagged way more often than anyone else.
Star got tagged a couple of times too, but not on purpose anymore. She didn't go for Sun when she did, instead trying to get the number of kids that always seemed to be using him as a shield of some sort. He was, after all, the most popular person to tag, and if you were close enough to reach the people around him you might as well just tag him directly.
But Star had already tagged Sun, so instead they would only pretend to tag him before switching targets last minute to be of the kids beside him. It worked every time.
Eventually most kids got tired of running around and went to play quieter games by themselves, or in small groups. Star ended up drawing with a couple of other kids. She did a few doodles, huffing and crumpling up the paper when they all ended up lopsided.
She looked around at what everyone else was drawing and noticed that one kid had about ten drawings of Sundrop on their paper already. That looked like fun. Star rapped her pencil on the table to get their attention. “I bet I could draw Sun better than you.” She challenged.
The other kid looked up, shaking their head. “No way. You can't.” They peered at Star. “But what are you betting?”
Star hummed. She hadn’t meant to actually bet anything. She held up her wrist showing off a rainbow bead bracelet. “How about this?”
Star’s opponent nodded and Star placed the bracelet between them. “Who decides who wins?” Star asked.
Her opponent poked a little boy who was sitting right next to them. “Can you be the judge?”
The boy nodded. “Can I choose a challenge?”
Star nodded, wondering what he meant by that.
“You guys can’t make him a robot. That’s my challenge.” The boy said.
Star nodded. “Oh ok, that’s easy.” She grabbed a new paper and so did her opponent. “Onetwothreego.” She said quickly and they both began scribbling.
Star, thinking of the candy she had eaten earlier, decided to make a Candy Sun. With candy corn rays and sundrop eyes. She finished first, handing her drawing to the judge.
The judge muttered and wrote something on his paper that looked to Star like gibberish. Her opponent finished their drawing soon after. And the judge did some more humming and writing.
Eventually he passed both drawings back to their respective owners. “She won.” He said simply, pointing to Star.
Star’s opponent gasped. “That’s not fair.” They said, reaching across the table and snatching Star’s drawing. Star, in turn, took that opportunity to see what they had drawn.
They had taken a different approach. Making Sun human, sort of. They’d given him fluffy blond hair and a wiry tail with a tuft of fur at the end. They had written the word “little” in a corner with an arrow pointing to Sun. It looked like the word had been misspelled and rewritten multiple times.
Star’s opponent sighed and passed her drawing back. “I guess yours is better.”
Star smiled. “Yours is pretty good too.” She said. She gave the drawing back, and with it the rainbow bracelet. “Here you can have this. Even though you didn’t win. I can make another one later anyway.”
Star’s opponent grinned as they slipped the bracelet onto their wrist. “I could make you one.” They looked for Sun. “Sunny! Can we make friendship bracelets?” They yelled.
Sun looked over. “Of course.” He said. He was quite preoccupied but he pointed them in the direction of the craft corner. “You can find the supplies over there. Please make sure to clean up when you’re done.”
And so Star made bracelets with her newfound friends and when those were finished, she moved on to something else. She almost didn’t notice the time passing and a dozen games and a couple nap times later Star’s mother was back to pick her up.
Star hugged her as she swiped her pass beside the door to check Star out. “Did you have fun?” She asked.
Star nodded. “Lots.”
“Are you ready to go home?”
Star paused. “Can I say bye to Sun first?”
Her mom smiled. “I don’t see why not.”
Star smiled and ran over to Sun who was frantically cleaning up one of the many messes that kept spontaneously appearing. She tapped Sun on the shoulder. “I’m leaving Sun.”
Sum turned. “Oh, goodbye Starlight. Have a Faz-tastic day.”
Star laughed. “You don't have to use my whole name you know.”
Sun tilted his head, confused. “That was a-“ then he giggled. “Oh, I get it. What a coincidence.”
Star smiled. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” She said, giving Sun a hug.
Sun hugged her back. “See you Soon.” He said before letting her run back to her mother.
“I get to come again tomorrow right?” She asked.
Her mom sighed. “Of course the only daycare you like is the most expensive one.” She said to herself before looking to Star as she led her out of the pizzaplex. “Yes, you can come again tomorrow.”

2023 reading wrap up
sort sort sort i love to arbitrarily sort😌📚
*i decided to get even more creative this time and named the tiers after different things from the books featured on this list. see explanation below🙃 **the following series i read in full are represented only by the first book: the aurelian cycle, the radiant emperor, the winnowing flame, sorcery of thorns, monk & robot, lilywhite boys
so in 2023 my reading was heavily curated: i challenged myself to finish at least 5 series i started a long time ago, to start at least 5 new ones, to read at least 10 classics, at least 5 dark academia books, at least 10 books not in english and to re-read at least 5 books i've been meaning to re-read for some time - and i did well at all of these challenges except for the last two (missed the goal by one book in each case). it's still difficult for me to find books in languages i can read other than english which i actually want to read as well as prioritizing re-reads over new exciting books😒🤷♀️
but overall i would say this was a good way to organize my reading year. i like planning, i like structure, i like crossing things off different lists so completing these challenges gave me a great sense of accomplishment. but more importantly, i feel like they achieved their respective purpose: i returned to stories i fell in love with years ago and finally followed some of those journeys to their end. i discovered new fun journeys - some of them so exciting i had to finish the series immediately and some that will last me for a few more years to come. i finally feel like i trained my classics brain muscle back to its glory days and i can't express how pleasantly surprised i am to see one of those dusty tomes i read by the dozen as a teen on my top 5 again. i rediscovered my love for dark academia. i did read books in different languages and some of them ended up quite high on my tier list as well.
at the same time i had plenty of opportunities left to mood-read. boy parts, my favorite book of the year, for example wasn't a part of any challenge. the same goes for semantic error which i picked up at random during the bl manhwa revival i experienced at the end of 2023. so my top tiers ended up being a mix of different genres, the new and the old series and books, the expected and the unexpected faves.
i wasn't trying to read a certain amount of books this year but surprisingly i managed to read even more than last year (when it comes to the page count). and as for the quality, i do have a better feeling than i had in 2022 too. while i didn't manage to regain the heights of literary enjoyment from the golden era of 2019-2021, i think i'm on my way there :)
here's another curious wrap up thingy @magpiefngrl tagged me in! very representative of my reading tastes, though i must say i have only 6 unread kj charles books left and i'm starting to get concerned about what i'm going to do when i inevitably gobble them up in 2024😬

explanation of the tier titles under the cut (if you even care)
spermaceti is a precious substance derived from the head of the sperm whale that may or may not be the whale's sperm. these are the books i absolutely loved. the vibe is that scene from moby dick where they are all on deck slicking each other with spermaceti and chanting "sperm!🙌" (that's how i remember it anyways)
toy excavator is the source of his strongest positive feelings for the main character of semantic error chu sangwoo. these are the books that i loved too but not on the spermaceti level, you know. the vibe is that scene where sangwoo realizes he's in love with jaeyoung and is like,, damn. this feels exactly like that time they gifted me a toy excavator🤔😒 (he's autistic)
skyfish is the least cool type of dragon in the aurelian cycle. the hufflepuff dragon, if you will. but it's still a dragon so these were some good books i still enjoyed😌
defekta are sentient furniture in nino cipri's sci fi novella defekt. now, in this book the concept of defekta very much serves the purpose of questioning what things we see as defective and the ethics of of how we treat them. for the purposes of this tier list however defekta are the books which range from good to great but which at the same time have some big issue that made me want to throw them at a wall. that's why the radiant emperor is ranked twice lol it has to be on my top 5 bc i'm obsessed but also ragsghhjdsgjhjbbdsd
kerinne is a made up drink the characters of mca hogarth's cozy sci fi series the dreamhealers like to drink. in 2023 i found out that i am not immune to cozy sff but one genre-specific thing i will forever remain indifferent towards is foods & beverages - i don't care about them too much irl so when they're fictional i care even less. these are the books that were just whatever🤷♀️
holism is art's annoying coworker we're introduced to in system collapse. a totally overrated guy, just like these books🙄
green varnish is a resin-like substance a certain type of creature in the winnowing flame excretes after consuming everything it finds in its path so that entire towns together with their residents get entombed under it forever. it's also transparent so the areas attacked by these creatures basically turn into see-through graveyards brrrr. these were The Worst books i read in 2023😬

Storm the Hedgecat
OC ramble time for my pinned, in case people see him on @sonic-oc-showdown and end up wanting to know more without digging through lots of non context art and shitposts in my Storm tag! (Tho do that if you want anyways)
I’m gonna answer a buncha questions from an ask game now and since it’s kinda long + I might end up rambling anyway, I’m putting the rest under a readmore
✨- How did you come up with the OC’s name?
A long time ago before I was smart enough to know not to name my sonas or give them even a bit of OC backstory or they WILL become their own characters, Storm was meant to be my Sonic-sona. Back then I’d name my sonas Storm, or other words fused with ‘storm’. And since this was Sonic, I just named this one Storm. But it wasn’t long before he wasn’t my sona at all, and developed into his own standalone Sonic OC. But the name stuck.
In universe, his dad named him Storm because his bit of grey fur on blue reminded him of a clear sky with a storm cloud on it
🌼 - How old are they? (Or approximate age range)
In the ‘present’ time, Storm is 35. However due to shenanigans involving experiments, and an accident similar to a small contained super genesis wave, he is stuck forever looking like he did when he was 20, or younger considering he’s always had a baby face.
🌺- Do they have any love interest(s)?
Nope! Storm is acearo, and uninterested in romance! If any poor soul was stuck having a crush on him, he’d be none the wiser as flirting flies right over his head, as do any advances.
He is however a very affectionate person, and likes cuddling and being affectionate with his friends. I’m acearo and uninterested myself, so seeing stories like his where two (or more) people understand each other deeply, and would do anything for each other, and where they get to be affectionate without any of it developing into romance is very important to me
🍕 - What is their favorite food?
Waffles! He has good memories of his dad making them for him, and they have since developed into a comfort food for him
💼 - What do they do for a living?
He doesn’t need to do anything to get by, but he has made a company he kind of semi-runs that he makes very advanced prosthetics with. His patents come with clauses that they can’t go above a certain price, and sometimes he will just give them away to people anyway.
Nobody even knows he’s the owner save for his close circle, and if anyone else does know he’s with the company they think he’s just an engineer and the boss’ personal assistant. He’d prefer it stays that way, since he values his privacy
🎹 - Do they have any hobbies?
Yes! He participates in underground fights. He gets really frustrated sometimes, and he’d rather blow off steam that way. It also started out as a way for him to earn his own money on the side so he wouldn’t feel like he’s relying entirely on his brother.
He also likes tinkering with machines. It’s a good distraction and something he likes doing. He likes coming up with concepts for weaponized robotic arms (these are never for sale), whether they make it past the blueprints and prototypes depends entirely on if they hold his interest or not. Sometimes he makes ones he actually uses.
He plays guitar whenever the mood strikes also.
🎯 -What do they do best?
In his own opinion? Fighting!
Storm is an individual that isn’t very confident- but the one thing that’s an exception to this are his fighting skills! Even when he loses, he’s not hard on himself over it like with other things, and sees it instead as something that was fun and that he can learn from. He’s also an excellent swordsman
🥊 -What do they love to do? What do they hate to do?
Loves:
Fighting/sparring, tinkering with machines, eating homecooked food, cuddling with his closest friends, learning new things about other zones/dimensions and how they’re different from his, playing guitar, listening to friends talk about their interests, listening to loved ones sing, going on motorcycle joyrides with V, driving his truck, causing (non-malicious) chaos- especially in the lives of people he finds annoying
Hates:
Doing mathematical calculations, listening to arrogant people talk, eating spicy stuff, fighting people that were given no choice BUT to fight, looking up at tall people (friends are an exception), being surrounded by water/being on boats, going to the hospital
❤️ - What is one of your OC’s best memories?
Getting to watch/listen to his dad play the guitar just for him. It’s what made him want to learn it himself
✂️ - What is one of your OC’s worst memories?
The day he almost lost his brother. This memory only got worse down the line as he ran into an evil alternate of his- their lives/timelines had been the same up until that point. Storm is all too aware of exactly the moment his alternate chose his path, and that he himself had been seconds away from it, with the only thing saving him and everyone else around him being that his brother took in another breath and came back.
🧊 - Is their current design the first one?
It’s pretty close! Artistic growth aside, his quills used to be longer and less messy, his bangs were also less messy, he had no pants, his boots used to be shoes, and he had a triangular bandana. He still had the smaller back quill though, and though you can’t see it here he used to have a huge scar on his chest.
His color scheme has stayed relatively the same, it’s not as pale anymore now that I have a better grasp of colors and coloring digitally
🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?
The Sonic franchise obv- though he was also made as my first non recolor OC! I’d had plenty of recolor OCs, and I’d had a bit of a pause between making them and Storm. So when I decided to make another OC I decided to finally make one where I wouldn’t be recoloring a Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles base
The current iteration of Storm was inspired by me seeing the GUN truck from Generations in 2011, the one with the saws, and thinking ‘who would drive that truck?’ and then putting my blorbo in the drivers seat
Here’s a character inspiration meme I did some months ago that also puts together some of his inspirations-- not all of these are direct inspirations and are rather characters I found later on that were similar to Storm and that I could point to for people to better understand him like ‘see this thing this character does? That’s what Storm’s like’
(I’ve since watched the original ‘98 Trigun anime, and Vash would DEFINITELY go on there now. I didn’t know anything about him before, but there’s just so many parallels between him and Storm)
🌂 - What genre do they belong in?
I don’t really slot my OCs into genres, since I feel like that can get pretty limiting for me. Like I could say shonen, but even that only fits as far as ‘character getting stronger as the story progresses, also seemingly has willpower and friendship powers’
Maybe whatever Trigun ‘98 has going on?? SHDGSH A mix of tragedy and comedy, a story about a seemingly goofy that’s more than he seems, from his life to his skillset
💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?
Storm is cis but doesn’t care much for any gender roles or how he presents himself, and he’s acearo!
🙌 - How many sibling does your OC have?
He has no biological siblings, but has a few that are either adoptive siblings or adoptive sibling adjacent! Exe (who belongs to rMADA on FA) and is his oldest adoptive family (though Storm no longer remembers the early years before he met Exe again)
V (who belongs to riftclaw on here and is also part of the tournament!)- they both consider each other ‘pack’, but there’s enough sibling energy here that Storm can introduce himself like either Vs brother or weird sibling if it’s easier.
Luka (who also belongs to riftclaw) who he tends to have sibling “arguments” with a lot, even though at the end of the day they’ll cuddle together (while still “arguing”). It lets Luka let out a lot of pent up energy, and Storm finds the whole thing hilarious and to be familiar territory so he’s more than happy to play along
He also has a couple alternates that he’s ran into, or will run into along the course of his story, that he considers his brothers.
He has a whole adoptive family, but these are the people that he’d label ‘siblings’ if he has to put any label on them, though that they’re family is enough for him.
🍎 - What is the OC’s relationship w/their parents like?
OUGH. Storm’s relationship with his dad was shaping up to be a great one, before it was cut short in a tragic accident during a training session with Exe. Atos was a great dad. He wanted his son to have everything he couldn’t have as a child- normalcy, love, and no expectations that could never be met.
After he died, things went downhill fast with Storm’s mom. Storm’s terrified of her to this day even though she’s no longer alive either.
🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?
How long he’s stuck around, and how I can use him as an experiment to try out new art styles because I’m just so used to drawing him.
Story-wise I like that he can zone hop/travel dimensions, because I can fling him at whatever setting feels fitting, along with him meeting new people being no problem
✏️ - How often do you draw/write about the OC?
TOO MUCH PROBABLY. Even when I don’t do serious art I like doing little doodles of him with stuff that pops into my head.
He’s the character I draw the most, and the character I write about the most
💎 - Do you ever see yourself killing off the OC?
NOPE not the main version of him. There Is a verse where he’s ended up dead. But his main verse story hasn’t had him die
💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?
LORT for someone that flings himself at danger whenever he sees fit, he also fears a lot.
He’s terrified of deep water. He CAN swim, but would prefer not to. He’ll swim in the shallows if he has to cool off badly, but deep water makes him panic.
He’s afraid of clowns and also puppets He’s afraid of needles
Not quite a phobia, but he hates the sound of loud wind, especially when he knows a blizzard is happening outside.
He’ll panic if he wakes up to the sound of a drill
He hates the smell of whiskey
And again not a phobia, but a trigger- it’s activated if he’s sparring someone and they rest their foot on his back while he’s already down. It has to do with the day he lost his arm
🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?
He doesn’t quite have any! If anyone considers him a rival, it’s pretty one sided because he’s oblivious to it
His arch nemesis was the guy that took his arm, but through story progression he became his rival, and now their relationship is more of a friendship that neither will admit to. They’re sparring partners. Storm likes to annoy him

🎓 - How long have you had the OC?
Since 2011! I THINK I made the first iteration of him in either late 2010 or early 2011. But then Sonic Generations came out with THAT TRUCK, and me and my friends started doing a silly GUN Agent chat rp. So I made an au of Storm called ‘Agent Storm’ that drove the be-buzzsaw’d GUN truck. But then as the story progressed, I began to adore that version of the character so he just became the main verse for him
His story has remained fairly same-ish. Even though at the start you can see a definitive sign of that good ol ‘teenager writing angst’ type of story, I’ve left it fairly intact. I’ve only changed parts that were like ‘yeah this is too much’ or where I just couldn’t fit in some characters or storylines anymore. I like having it as a sort of timeline to how my storytelling has developed
🍥 - What age were you when you created the OC?
17!
SOME EXTRA FUN FACTS:
-Storm was the one that added the buzzsaws and jet boosters to the GUN truck. They didn’t let him do much but transport cargo, so he started reading up on engineering and robotics and tinkering in the abundance of spare time he had. He added those thing to the truck out of boredom, and didn’t think he’d ever really use them- cargo transport is rarely ever that exciting.
But then he was in the middle of a drive when he heard over the comms that Sonic the Hedgehog had escaped captivity near his area and. Well. The rest is history
-He’s since left GUN and stolen took the truck. He and his brother Exe have formed their own team through which they feel they can help the world more. Part of their activities include tracking down facilities (that are often GUN supported) that deal in Mobian experimentation, and shutting them down/destroying them (not with the experiments still in them)
-He’s Terrified of Shadow due to events in his universe. He’s trying to be better about it
-The ‘goofy clueless idiot’ behavior is all an act
-He has a fake southern accent as part of his facade. Yeehaw. A reminant of a childhood ‘dream job’ of being a cowboy that wanders around helping people where it’s needed
-Because he can zone hop, he has a few universes where he’s decided to stick around. One of them is a game/IDW verse. He went through the events of Forces there, and his initial plan was to just help out with the war and then leave forever. But then he became friends with that universe’s Sonic whoops.
He lowkey cursed the friendship when he also went through the zombot arc, but he’s never actually regretted it
-He platonically adores Rough and Tumble just from what he’s heard about them and what little he’s seen. He doesn’t take them seriously and thinks they’re so goofy and hilarious. He’s like “LOOK at them, they’re brothers! They got each other! They think they’re doin’ crimes!
-He often introduces himself as just a cat since it’s easier

Aqua - Transformers/HoSt/HiSw/Helltaker >Aqua (TF:Prime) is just some homeless dude that ended up discovering the Cybertronians. Depending on the affiliation depends on how secretive they are kept and different dynamics. However on the Autobot’s side they live on the base as they have nowhere else to be. She can be seen as acting as a voice of reason to the kids, and generally tries their hardest to help when possible. >Aqua (TF: Animated/R.I.D/G1) is just a chill guy minding their business. Turns out randomly discovering alien robots can be pretty fun if not possibly stressful as Hell. >Aqua (TF: Bayverse) has firmly been an Autobot supporter since the beginning and revels in getting to know these cool bots. His moral compass is more grey and just wants to pick fights with the government at any opportunity. >Aqua(HoSt/HiSw) takes place in those AUs from the old DeviantArt days where the trolls come to Earth are just vibing and adjusting to society. >Aqua (Helltaker) is a thrill seeker that likes to ghost hunt and just so happens to come across a portal to Hell. Upon falling in he meets The Helltaker and they team up for a demon girl ‘harem’. Let’s be real, it becomes a found family dynamic too quickly.
Azura - Kekkai Sensen >A bartender who works rather close to the agency and keeps an ear and eyes out for the agency for any info or leads. Their blood technique allows them to create crystalline structures, sharpened weapons, and if an enemy is distracted can even crystallize them for a short term. He’s an endless source of advice and loves to help those that come through the bar.
Blaze - Pokémon >Blaze is a simple trainer who constantly is getting put in situations by forces outside his control. He has a passion for battles and a fondness for competitions when the occasion arises. He’ll never miss a chance for a battle as he loves to show off his Pokémon's skills in battle.
Dusk - Friday Night Funkin' >Dusk is a close friend of GF(Roxanne) who eventually was adopted by the Dearest family as their odd-ball son. He can frequently be found tagging along with GF and BF when they aren’t on dates. Shockingly he can’t really sing, but instead claims to tag along for other’s battles as “Morale Support”. Has a 9 - 5, but his passion lies in art which they do pursue in their spare time. All the money he makes is easily more spent on his friends than himself, but that’s fine when your adoptive parents give you a monthly allowance that is basically your rent.
Myst - Splatoon >A friendly veteran squid by the name of Myst with the catch-all pronouns of He/They/She. From a nondescript town somewhere south of Inkopolis, but has seen most of Inkadia in his travels. Works at a local venue in Splatsville where they meet the latest musical talents. (Credit to @sleepyship for this excerpt)
Nova - Madness Combat >Nova awoke with very little memories of his life prior to the Madness over taking Nevada, but still he gets along in life as best he can. At first they spent many days just trying to get by until being come across by Sanford and Deimos. Once the two men decided he wasn’t a threat, and seemed more than competent to help, they let him tag along.
Rill - Pikmin >Rill works at the same company as Olimar and Louie, focusing more in the actual office/factory area. However, he also gets some jobs to transport from time to time. Especially with larger orders. Upon a trip to PNF-404 to assist Olimar and Louie on an odd job for more treasures and surveying. Rill enjoys the planet so much. Despite being mostly lonely when on the planet, they take great comfort with the Pikmin nearby.
"Spooks" - Horror Sona >-
Swift - No Straight Roads >Your average NSR worker busting their ass to make ends meet while pursuing their passion in the spare time they have. No one is quite sure what they are, and they seemingly refuse to elaborate upon being asked because they always seemingly get distracted. While they don’t agree with all of NSR’s protocols or general vibes, he can’t argue with the pay.

Mackenzie’s breathing is the only thing that she can feel her body doing at first. Then it’s the strong arms that wrap around her, the warmth of someone’s lithe, toned chest that presses against her shoulder. The fingers that grip hers. The upwards lurch of the elevator, the sensation of her leg muscles propelling her forward as she is guided down the quiet hallway.
The quiet feels comforting. Nice.
So does the embrace of the man who fumbles around in his pockets, searching for the key to open the door in front of him.
Mackenzie scowls. What is she doing here with this guy? Who is he again? While his name is on the tip of her tongue, just barely out of reach, she knows for certain that’s not Ari. He’s too pretty and well-dressed. He smells too good to be Ari..
Mackenzie feels a tugging at her brain. The man she’s with- his name was pretty weird, but he goes by something that sounds normal when you say it. Does it start with an A? Or maybe it was a R?
He holds the door open for her and she feels as if she is almost fully back in her body, but she needs an anchor. She needs to stop the emotional escalation before she is a quivering, sobbing mess on this man’s hotel room floor.
The gorgeous man cups his elegant hands gently beneath her face, looking down into her eyes to search them for answers.
“What is it that you need most?” He asks gently, like he’s in love with her. Like how she wishes Ari would speak to her.
“Cold water,” Mac hears herself say. She’s not sure why, but she knows it’ll help.
He raises a perfect silver eyebrow. “As in…to drink?”
“Shower,” Mackenzie says robotically, walking towards the bathroom. She places her palm face down on the countertop for support as she leans to the side. An arm that doesn’t feel like her own un-does the buckles on the ankle straps of her shoes and slips them off.
She steps into the combined shower and bathtub, fully clothed, staring blankly ahead at the chrome fixtures. Her hands hover above the knobs, trying to comprehend how to turn the thing on. The man steps in with her as she fiddles with the knobs- is his name Aaron? No, that’s not right…
“Are you quite sure you want to- GAH!” He yelps, his body tensing in shock at the cold water that rains down upon them. He clutches onto Mackenzie reflexively, looking up at the shower head in terror.
The contrast of the cool water tracing rivers between warmth of their wet bodies pressed together brings Mackenzie back within herself.
“S-shit, that’s cold,” she complains, her hands frantically turning and twisting the knobs to turn the shower off. It takes a few seconds too long, but she accomplishes it.
Her eyes flicker up with hesitation at the man whose name sounds-like-but-isn’t-actually Aaron, his perfectly styled silver curls slicked straight back, his carefully applied eye makeup running slightly down his cheeks.
She isn’t sure how to read the expression on his face, which is something she’s usually amazing at. Mackenzie can look into anyone’s eyes and know exactly what’s there, but this man’s walls are up high and tight, guarded with the utmost vigilance. Despite that, she can at least tell that whatever he’s feeling, it’s intense. His ruby irises form a thin band around his blown out pupils, his gaze half-lidded, darkened, and dangerous. His plush, flushed lips are slightly parted, his sweet, cool breath escaping him with an audible pant.
Is he mad at her? Mackenzie scrunches her eyes closed. She could kick herself. He’s probably not too happy about how she got him and their expensive clothing wet, Ari would have been pissed…
Mackenzie cringes, bracing herself to receive his well- deserved ire. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
He closes the small gap between them and cages her fully against the marble of the bathroom walls, pressing his lips firmly to hers.
Mackenzie tenses, frozen as he kisses her.
Oh.
Well…maybe he’s not mad at her, then?
His lips move against hers, teasing her, tempting her to play along. She briefly considers allowing him the chance to do so. Nobody’s ever kissed her like this before, with so much skill or passion. She’s intrigued by this display of his talents, but it’s not enough to quiet the demands of her conscience to resist.
When that doesn’t make her yield to him, he groans sinfully in pleasure, his eyes fluttering shut as his hips roll forward. She feels something hard in his pants poke into her groin and audibly gasps. Her open mouth is not an invitation but he interprets it as such, plunging his tongue between her lips. He makes a noise that Mackenzie can only describe as obscene as her body goes slack and surrenders to him.
This is wrong, so, so wrong. She should tell him to stop.
She is scandalized by her lack of self-control when she finds she cannot.
Their tongues glide together fervently now, Mackenzie enthusiastically kissing him back. He draws her tongue into his mouth and fellates it, using the lewdness of his actions to distract her from the hand gliding slowly up her thigh.
Rion (that’s his name!) swiftly rucks the hem of her dress up around her waist with a practiced hand, roughly yanking her exposed thigh towards him, her ankle hooking around the small of his back. His hips snap forward as she opens for him, grinding his fully erect, rock hard length against the sweet spot between her legs. She cries out, her blunt nails clawing at the cool marble behind her, desperate to find a surface on which she can steady herself.
“Rion,” she exhales as he kisses a searing trail along the hinge of her jaw. “We need to…we need,” she stutters breathily, the word ‘stop’ never reaching her lips as she imagines it flashing in bold, bright red letters.
“To get out of these wet clothes? What a splendid idea, my treasure…that is, after I taste your divine nectar. You’ll allow me this treat, won’t you?” he purrs sensually, his soft lips ghosting the words into the supple curve of her neck. Mackenzie nods eagerly as she huffs out her consent, feeling her sex flutter in anticipation of his filthy promise. It’s been ages since anyone’s gone down on her, and if how he kisses is any indication of what else that tongue of his can do…
Her thoughts are arrested as he licks a broad, diagonal line up from her throat to her jaw, drawing out a pathetic mewl from her. He huffs a hungry, shuddering breath when she tilts her head back, allowing him greater access to the fluttering of her pulse that thrums so deliciously for him.
Mackenzie feels the prick of two sharp points against her skin as his mouth opens wide.
An unexpected, jarring series of knocks is heard at the hotel room’s door, breaking the spell of his seduction.
Rion snaps his mouth shut and clenches his jaw, growling in irritation at the interruption. He takes a moment to cool his temper, mumbling a series of strange words to himself as he swiftly exits the bathroom, closing the door with care behind him.
Mackenzie heaves out a sigh of relief. She clings to the shower walls, overcome with gratitude…and disappointment. Partially from her inability to resist his temptations, but mostly that she didn’t want him to stop.
How in the hell had he aroused her nearly to ruin after being on the verge of a meltdown?! Aside from the fact that her dear husband was usually the cause of her anxiety episodes, after one of these she doesn’t want Ari to touch or perceive her, sometimes for days .
With Rion? She was ready to go in less than 60 seconds.
Her blood runs cold and her stomach turns as she realizes what would have happened if they had not been interrupted, it was too close of a call.
She knew she was nearing the point of no return when he turned his attention to her neck, hovering over her pulse like a sexy vampire. However, any and all willpower she possessed to resist him had abandoned her when the vibrations of his irritated growl sent a ripple of pleasure throughout her body. Slick warmth pooled low in her abdomen, her core aching to be filled with the velvety hardness confined within his trousers.
Had someone not come to the door, Mackenzie is certain beyond the shadow of a doubt they would have fucked right there and then, their wet clothes halfway peeled off in the shower stall.
And again in the shower, hot water running over them with Mackenzie lifted up against the marble shower walls, in the bathroom with her bent over the counter as he pounds into her from behind, her legs thrown over his shoulders while he takes her on the nearest flat surface in the hotel room, and finally with her knees pressed up to her ears when they make it to the bed…
It can’t happen. She won’t let it.
Mackenzie sees two clean, white robes hanging on the back of the bathroom door, hung invitingly on display. She slips one on as she hears Rion make polite small talk with the hotel staff person in their room. She takes a moment to examine herself in the mirror, comb fingers through her frizzy hair in an attempt to look presentable.
She's glad she didn’t wear more than a drop of foundation mixed into her sunscreen and some concealer to hide the dark circles under her eyes. She would have been a complete mess if she’d applied the amount of makeup Ari was always pressuring her to put on. She would often hold back from rolling her eyes when he would tell her she needed to be cuter, always hold her tongue when she wanted to reply ‘With what time and whose money?!’.
She cracks the door open when their visitor leaves, getting a better look at her surroundings.
Mackenzie’s mouth falls open in disbelief. Holy hotel suites, Batman. She knows what room they’re in and how much it comps for- it was just barely in budget for the anime convention’s guest hospitality room. What she doesn’t want to know is how much he paid the hotel staff to bring the dinner they’d ordered up to where he was staying.
Her heart flutters watching Rion busying himself while he waits for her to join him. He pops the cork on a bottle that is real champagne (not just sparkling wine), pulls out a chair for her to sit in, and places the extra tableware on an accent table to make room for the feast he’d had brought up to the room.
There’s one detail that’s out of place - how did he get dry and clean his makeup off so quickly? His clothes are clean and pressed, his gorgeous face clean of the heavy eye makeup that ran in the shower, the long, silver curls that he tucks behind his ear cascading over his shoulders in perfectly styled waves.
A flag of skepticism starts to nag Mackenzie. Curly hair takes so much longer than a few minutes to dry and style. She knows it personally, having abandoned her formerly copper waves that she used to wear naturally with pride. For the last year or two she’s fried her hair to Jesus with bleaching, toning, and straightening it into the long ash blonde that Ari prefers.
He spots her spying on him from around the corner, smiling at her softly as she steps out from behind the wall and makes her way over to him.
“Normally they don’t do...this,” Mackenzie says, inclining her head towards the meal laid out before them. “I’m shocked they didn’t have you order from the room service menu.”
Rion’s soft smile turns to a satisfied grin as he takes a seat, placing a white napkin atop his lap. “There’s benefits to being observant of the small print. A large amount of coin doesn’t hurt, either.”
Mackenzie joins him, mimicking his table manners. She stops mid-napkin placement when she sees the folded up note placed between them. She reaches for it, stopping before she touches it, looking up to Rion for permission to read it. He smiles warmly with a nod.
The contents read: “Thank you for getting my pronouns right. You’re the only guest who’s done that for the last month. The dysphoria has been real lately, and you’ve helped me find some joy today. Hope the meal is to your satisfaction. Enjoy! - R.H., Assistant Manager. PS - Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to make your stay more comfortable! Ext #4928”.
“The only person? What the hell?” Mackenzie exclaims as she looks over at Rion, who seems extremely pleased with himself.
“I’m as shocked as you are. It’s basic, darling. And they made it painfully obvious, what, with that little gold pin they had,” He says as he leans in as if to divulge a secret. He takes a sip of the bubbly, the drink getting caught in his throat as he motions before him. “Please, eat.”
Mackenzie was waiting for him to see how he does things, but she complies with his wishes, picking up her fork and knife, cutting into her scallops.
She spears a portion of the seafood on her fork, mulling over her current circumstances. She furrows her brow, taking a deep breath as she stares down at the impeccable searing on it.
“This is a date, isn’t it?” Mackenzie asks flatly, her eyes flicking up to Rion, catching him mid-bite. He sets the fork down soundlessly on his plate, his lips twisting into a smirk.
“Oh my, it seems the beautiful heroine has uncovered my wicked plans,” he drawls, ruby eyes sparkling with mischief at her from across the table.
“I do hope this doesn’t cause any issues between you and your…’ room-mate ’,” he enunciates the last word of his sentence in mockery of how the other server described the relationship between Mackenzie and Ari.
Mackenzie grimaces, feeling her appetite leave her. “The reason Ari’s given me for calling me his roommate is that he wants to appear single, so his streaming career isn’t impacted negatively.”
Rion huffs a laugh, rolling his eyes. “You must know that’s an excuse, and a poor one at that. One’s relationship status does not dissuade the other party from finding them entertaining.”
“And while we’re on the topic of the ridiculous. Streaming? What in the nine hells is that? Does he dance around with a ribbon for people’s enjoyment like a circus animal? Spend his days wading through rivers and creeks looking for the sense he’s lost?” He scrutinizes, making a sour face when he bites down upon the meat in his mouth.
“He streams video games on Twitch, and he’s done some consulting work for game companies, some play testing. He’s got a huge following with the 14-24 year old crowd doing Minecraft speed runs, but lately he’s trying to branch out into other things.” Mackenzie explains, twirling her fork with the scallop bit impaled on it in the air.
“This weekend he’d planned to start a playthrough of a game that he’d previously been under an NDA with for Larian Studios. I hadn’t heard of them before I met him,” She elaborates before she finally takes a bite of her entree, feeling her gag reflex kick in when the flavor of the food graces her tongue.
“I’m so sorry,” she mumbles, rising abruptly, looking for a place to spit the seafood out. She makes her way to the kitchenette and returns to see Rion looking down at his meal like it was crawling with bugs.
“If anyone should be apologizing, it should be the chef,” Rion sneers. “I’ve suffered much worse at a far greater price.”
“Now, where were we…ah, yes. Your useless roommate-slash-husband and his job sitting around playing games while you’re on your feet all day, slaving away at the physician’s office. Is his occupation at least fairly lucrative? Does he contribute any coin to your household?” Rion arches an eyebrow, drumming his fingers expectantly on the table.
Mackenzie sinks down into her chair. “So…that’s a sore spot between us. I pay rent, most of the utilities, my own cell phone, groceries, and the car stuff. He pays the internet bill- well, he doesn’t pay much, he has a sponsorship deal- and he pays for his own phone, the things he wants to buy. He said he’s saving up for his own car, but I’m not sure if that’s really true.”
Rion leans back with an unreadable expression, crossing his ankle over his thigh. “And what of the division of labor?”
“If I don’t do it, it doesn’t get done,” Mackenzie sighs out, sagging her shoulders.
Rion licks his lips, unimpressed. His next question would have been if Ari’s good in bed, but little does Mackenzie know that’s an answer he already has.
He rises, champagne glass in hand, the sudden movement startling Mackenzie. He drags a dining chair directly next to her, sits too close with their shoulders overlapping, his lean and strong legs entwining with hers.
“And then there’s the matter of how horrid he’s been to you,” He murmurs, lifting her left hand to scrutinize the ring that encircles the fourth digit.
Mackenzie’s throat tightens, the sting of tears filling her eyes.
“What did you mean earlier when you said he’s going to kill me?” She looks up at him, her eyes sparkling in the dwindling light of the evening.
Rion pauses, rubbing his thumb overtop the softness of the back of her hands.
“It wasn’t your exact situation, but I’ve been hi- with men like him. I too have been stuck in the cycle of heartbreak, promises made, and promises broken. The lies and the abuse only escalate. One day he’s upset because you’re not standing up straight enough, and then the next he’s trafficking-” Rion pauses mid-sentence when his voice gives out. His eyes shut tightly in pain for only a moment, his fingers interlacing with Mackenzie’s.
He sits up straight and sniffles, draining the champagne in his glass. He transforms then, his princely airs returning as he looks out over their barely eaten meal with contempt.
“You’re staying here tonight, with me. I won’t take no for an answer,” He commands, his furious eyes snapping up to meet Mackenzie’s.
Mackenzie gulps audibly as she feels his hand grip hers with calculated pressure, considering her options.
Option number one. Politely excuse herself to the bathroom, call Amanda to come pick her up and drive her back to her car. It’ll take awhile from Amanda to get in from where she lives in the middle of nowhere AKA Hobart, but she knows Amanda’s good for it. She can pretend she’s going to get ice when she slips out right as Amanda’s pulling up, jump into her car, and never see this man again. She’ll probably have to help clear a pile of half-finished SCA garb off the bed, but she’ll have a bed to sleep in, at least.
Option number two. Slip away using the same ice excuse, walk back to her car, drive to the parking garage at work. Sleep in her car, use the shower in the combination storage room/staff poop bathroom to get cleaned up before her shift starts, and go about whatever fresh hell her work day brings.
Option number three. Stay.
Normally, she would select option two, not wanting to inconvenience anyone.
Her mind drifts back to the latter. It’s definitely not the smart choice. If her current circumstances were part of a show she was watching, she’d be on the edge of her seat calling out, “Run, bitch, run!”. However. She really, really wants to see what happens with option three. Even if it’s the stupidest one.
Mackenzie nods stiffly. “Yeah, I think I’d like that,” she admits, her voice cracking as she speaks.
The look of approval on Rion’s face both scares and arouses her.
“Excellent. I knew it was an offer you couldn’t refuse,” he purrs, massaging comforting circles into the palm he had gripped so tightly.
Mackenzie feels her pocket inside the silk dress vibrate- she thought she turned that off?
She leans into Rion unintentionally as she reaches for her phone, which he takes as an excuse to haul her up to sit in his lap. Her ears turn hot. She could swear to God the butterflies in her stomach are actually the two bites of seafood she’s had, coming back with a vengeance.
The notification is from…Microsoft Teams?
Oh, it’s Rob!
“CHEEZY MY DUDE. Guess who has two thumbs and has more lumpia and pancit AND LECHON than they could eat????”
Mackenzie feels her mouth water at the mention of lechon, typing out a reply when his next message pops up.
“THIS GUY!!!!! /airhorn noises. Marisol really loaded me up. I got three huge takeout containers and it’s going to go bad before I eat it all. Do you want sum? I herd you liek Filipino foodz…” he types, following up with a picture of an animated Mudkip.
Rion snorts at the strange blue creature wiggling on the screen as he reads the messages with her. “Cute. An inside joke between you two, I assume?” he sighs, nuzzling his head against her shoulder like an overgrown cat.
Mackenzie could be shocked that Rion’s only five years older than her and doesn’t get the reference to the old memes, but with his refined manners and posh British accent she isn’t. Not everyone grew up and remains chronically online like her tiny circle of friends.
Her stomach grumbles loudly, protesting the excess of everything she’s imbibed this evening that isn’t a solid meal.
“More or less. Hey, are you hungry?” She cranes her head to look down at him.
“I could…go for a nibble,” Rion flirts, displaying a set of long canines that Mackenzie hadn’t noticed before. “A little something to whet my appetite for later. Any local delicacies you can recommend? Aside from yourself, of course.”
Rion smugly peers up at Mackenzie, flushed and uncomfortably squirming in his lap.
“Hmm. Perhaps a dish that isn’t also local to the Gate?” he offers without thinking about the context of his words.
“The Bay Area, huh?” Mackenzie muses, leaning away to get a better look at the mortified look on Rion’s face. Her Instagram feed is sometimes full of suggestions of all the delicious food available further down the west coast. She doesn’t know what else he could get in Seattle that he couldn’t get there…aside from the renowned Marisol’s home kitchen.
“I’m downtown right now at the Fairmont. Should I come to you? When’s your breaks/lunch?” she types back, hoping he doesn’t have anything to say about her current location.
“...Fairmont? Did you win the lottery and not tell me?!???! RUDE,” Rob messages. “Nah, the ole battleaxe canceled me and forgot to tell me and isn’t floating me anywhere else tonight THANK GOD. So I’m chillaxin here, collecting the fruits of last nights….shall we say…….deeiiirtay deeds.” Rob sends a message with a GIF from the movie “Joe Dirt”, immediately sending another GIF of chocolate soft serve being squeezed out of a tube.
“Gods, eugh! Is that what I think it is?” Rion angles Mackenzie’s phone towards him in disgust and fascination, Mackenzie lifting it above her head and out of his reach.
Mac’s backside starts to get that pins-and-needles feeling and she re-adjusts herself on Rion’s lap.
“I don’t wanna be that person who just invites other people over to a two-person party, but Marisol’s cookin’ is a local legend up the hill, and I’d love for you to meet Rob. You up for some company?”
Rion chuckles, a villainous sound that sends shivers up Mackenzie’s spine. “In the presence of a delightful treat such as yourself? It’s difficult to be anything else.”
