#how do i stop projecting my music taste onto my faves

Just finished re-watching Help! (The Beatles movie) as my birthday tradition (it's either the Yellow Submarine animated film or Help! every year since literal childhood even though I didn't understand anything they said at the time) and now I'm thinking that Ghost might actually like it a lot and find fucking hilarious. Like, sure, it's not the darkest shade of humor like he usually prefers, but it's the most absurd, silly and punny thing where every line is treated with the most seriousness (aka the best kind of humor imo lol).
It might be his mum's influence. She had good taste in music, maybe Beatles weren't her first choice, but I bet they had at least one vinyl. I bet Simon prefers them to many other things. I bet he takes the piss out of Johnny's music taste and has him over to watch Help! to teach this scottish mutt what real culture is. Even if they are goddamn Liverpool golden boys, Simon's Manchester pride can survive this.
Especially when Soap's sprawled right next to him on the couch, thighs spread, knee jiggling and laughter booming at every deadpan delivery of a silly (and yet clever) joke.
Hell, if Johnny's not in a hurry, maybe they can watch A Hard Day's Night too?
#how do i stop projecting my music taste onto my faves#i'm sorry but simon quietly humming hey you've got to hide your love away#he can probably do a nice lennon impression#i love ghost's humor it's literally my sister's#my sister's the coolest person so#sent me a goofy ghost birthday picture today lol#cod#call of duty#soap cod#john soap mactavish#simon ghost riley#ghost cod#ghoap#ghost x soap#soap x ghost#headcanon

when/how did you realize beatles music was amazing and something you couldn't live without?
I'm trying to not start off every answer with "OOF" but you people do keep sending me loaded questions lol. That's fine though, I enjoy it, keep it coming! My close attachment to the bug boys (both their music and them) is new. It more or less started at the beginnng of May of this year.
I've always known about them and known a good handful of songs. We sang Yellow Submarine and Hello Goodbye in school, I have memories of playing Beatles Rockband once at my cousin's house and also the Love album used to be relatively regular car music for my family. Also, I was in class with someone who was obsessed with their music and sometimes she'd be playing songs. My opinion on the music for most of my life has been kind of⊠middling. There were songs I really liked or loved (like Help! or Eleanor Rigby) songs I thought were fine but didn't take much note of (something like Being For The Benefit of Mr Kite) and ones I just really didn't get the hype for (A Hard Day's Night comes to mind [I love it now]). But I have a sort of kneejerk sceptic reaction to people hyping stuff up for no discernible reason sometimes, and so the more I'd hear older people with little knowledge of music theory and history call them the be-all end-all of music, the more I sort of developed a kind of aversion to them. I just hate being told to respect and/or like things without knowing why, y'know?
PSA to older Beatles fans: you will NOT convince younger people to listen to your music by telling them their music taste sucks actually.
On the other hand, I had also sort of gotten the idea I should maybe go through their entire discography and get behind the myth of it all. I sort of attempted this a few times over the years, like I started listening to Sgt. Pepper once and then for some reason had to stop halfway, and I listened to the This Is The Beatles playlist on spotify a few nights in a row in 2019 lol.
What actually made me commit to doing it was 1) I had seen a LOT of backlash against Taylor for breaking the Beatles' records for 3 number one albums within the least amount of time in the UK last April, and like the sheer stupidity of some of the arguments being made why "Actually She Didn't Break This Record" really set me off (for example talking about it being "more effort" to buy an album back in the day⊠But the Beatles weren't competing for number one against anyone who had it "easier" to sell their albums and Taylor wasn't competing against anyone who had it "harder" than her. Or talking about absolute pure sales numbers when that's not what going number one means?) and 2) in a Discord I was in, someone shared a link to an 8-Bit version of Sgt. Pepper at the beginning of May, which I decided to listen to cause it seemed like good study music and I rather enjoyed! I found it really let their talent for creating good melodies shine through.
WHY DO I KEEP COMPLETELY EXPOSING MYSELF IN MINIATURE ESSAYS WHEN ASKED STRAIGHTFORWARD QUESTIONS
Anyways, so all of that made me go okay! I'm gonna go through this motherfucking huge discography then I will know this music better than a LOT of the people who hype it up and then I will be able to be objective about all of this.
So I listened to Sgt. Pepper and Please Please Me and then the White Album. The first was enjoyable but I didn't really ~get the immense hype, Please Please Me bored me at first (I think their early style is something you kind of need to get into and need to hear a few times to fully appreciate. But also Love Me Do sucks and why a record label thought it would be a good debut single is absolutely BEYOND ME) and the last one REALLY caught me off guard. There was stuff in there I loved (Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is actually possibly my very first favourite song that wasn't a kids' song. I used to have to go to these psychomotor education classes and that song played there often and I adored it. Also Piggies slaps, send tweet) but also like a lot of stuff I found pretty weird and off-putting. And I still haven't warmed up to Yer Blues and Why Don't We Do It In The Road. That album did, however, get me very interested in the band. I think the weirdness of the album really just invited me to look into their history. I wanted to understand why they had broken up. That sent me down the rabbithole of the India trip history and I just kept reading more and more wikipedia articles related to all of it.
It was around this point I sort of came to realize that I'd had a lot of wrong preconceived notions about them, especially John. I was never someone like roaming around twitter, yelling for him to be cancelled, but he had simply never seemed sympathetic to me. For instance, IDK if I misunderstood what someone told me or if that person had misunderstood, but the story of John learning chords with Paul left-handed to follow him better (and maybe also Stuart not letting Paul change around the strings on his bass) had somehow been morphed into John finding Paul's left-handed playing off-putting and forcing Paul to play right-handed?? And I was like "Wow, what an asshole!" Also all the 1970 narrative that the two didn't like each other, plus I projected boomers' and gen-xers' Beatle snobism onto them and just got the impression they were pretentious narcissists. (I mean they were kind of that, but not to the extent or in the same way I imagined)
So I think learning these things opened me up to them more. Like I realized Hey! They were my age! And then at some point I found out about the Christmas albums and thought that was so fascinating, that that existed, (a huge part of my initial interest was my fascination with the marketing around them, which is why I watched AHDN and Help! super early on) so I listened to those and was like "Fuck! These guys are endearing!" and then I remember lurking on bug-tumblr and seeing that "Well that was very observant of them, because we aren't American actually" quote and I wanted to find the video of it and ended up finding this legendary video. And starting to actually like these guys and realizing they took all of this ten times less seriously than their Boomer fans do made me more excited to keep listening to the discography and look up more of the stories behind the songs and just kind of⊠Come to understand them better. I also found that once I accepted that some Boomers are just gonna hype up their fave music too much I'd enjoy it more. Like I'd listen to I Want To Hold Your Hand and get a bit defensive like "why do you love this so much??? the lyrics are so dumb??" but when I just kind of accepted that fact I realized no! It's an amazingly structured bop, which yes, has weak lyrics but it's fine!!! It's the Call Me Maybe of its day and that's NOT a bad thing!!
And in the end they have an amazingly versatile catalogue that covers most things you might be in the mood for. It is kind of hard (for me) not to like it.
There are still sort of two bands in my head: the archetype, the myth, the pretentious group of people who hate each other that I just sort of instinctively want to dislike and the band who sang all those songs I had NO IDEA existed and came into my life without any baggage or expectations from my part. I've pretty much never listened to say Hey Jude in the past months, even though I don't find it bad the outro is too fucking long because it's kind of got too much of that baggage to me still.
This was SUCH a ramble but I hope this makes sense to people to some extent. Anyways I'm a new fan, drag me, but maybe drag me more for how much I seem to know after three months. Seriously, this is a curse.

Eurovision 2010s: 45 - 41
45. Rasmussen - âHigher groundâ Denmark 2018
youtube
[2018 Review here]
FRIZ DEE YERRO, WINDY YERRRRR
But Iâm getting ahead of myself. Remember when Christer rejected âHigher groundâ from Melfest and it was the fucking WORST Melfest ever? Remember how Denmark recycled it and let it win DMGP? Well...
OOOOOOOOOOOOOWNED SO HARD!! and not just Sweden to be honest, because âHigher groundâ slaps, even a full year after the fact. Itâs a paragon of righteous scandi energy, conceived in a mancave over a keg of mead, inspired by a tale of medival pacifism (which actually makes it non-toxicly masculine), imprinted on by Game of Thrones (a wonderful tv series that ended when the White Walkers melted down the ice wall and murdered everybody in Westeros ^__^)
In a nutshell, an absolutely kick ass entry.
Truth be told, it is IMPOSSIBLE to not get up from my chair, pound my chest and march along with the Old Norse (đ) post-chorus chanting. Rasmussen DELIVERS a performance so intense it rips the space/time continuum and creates a portal to the good old Viking days. 100% deserving of being 2018âČs KEiiNO and the highest Danish entry on this ranking!

44. Pasha Parfeny -Â âLÄutarâ Moldova 2012
youtube
THIS DRAMPET MAKES U MIME GIRL
Pasha Parfeny looks like this now:
đŹÂ
Years of being awesome clearly took their toll on poor Pasha, but I will cherish him for the fountain of fun he has always been. âLÄutarâ  is such an uninhibited display for Moldovan FOLK, bringing out the dulcimers, horns and âdrampetsâ to bring a much-needed ethic palate cleanser after the musical genocide committed on the Baku Stage. It also features some of the best dance choreography found in this decade, in which Pasha and dancers hop around the stage like overexcited gerbils <3
(btw: the pink dancer SLAYS me every single time.)
Such a frivolous, playful, adorable act that radiates mirth from every pore. đ But wait, we arenât done, because â LÄutarâ also features some of the more memorable, hilarious, iconic butcherings of the English language found in this decade (âYou havenât seen before the looks like drampet. đ Butter sound go straight to ur soulâđ). It certainly helps that Pasha is like a male Ruslana, struggling to express himself and resulting some hilarious awkward interview gold (Eurovision.tv: âPasha, what is your secret for happinessâ Pasha: âMake good sex ^__^â Eurovision.tv: â. . .â đ)
Naturally, a Pasha write-up cannot be finished without noting how central he is to âMoldova in Eurovisionâ, almost as much as Moldovaâs staging is. This little manâs (literally. Heâs like 1.65m lol) musical legacy includes:
- writing and performing LÄutar in 2012 - being a former vocalist for Sunstroke Project - being the mentor of Aliona Moon and writing her 2013 song - being the original songwriter for DoReDoS before Kirkorov took over  In other words, he is ~CONNECTED~ to every epic, high-tier Moldovan entry. WHAT AN ICON. Stay Safe Pavel!!

43. Dino Merlin -Â âLove in rewindâ Bosnia - Herzegovina 2011
youtube
Finishing 6th place from the death slot when will ur faves...x Man I do love my narrative entries, and it doesnât get much better than an old man reflecting back on his lifeâs had, satisfied with its outcome. Itâs such a c00t premise and Dino Merlin plays the part of the adorable grandfather with conviction. đ Even manages to transform Maja Sar into a fun hume for once:
âLove in rewindâ really is all about the group effort. Dino himself is of course fantastic and makes this performance, but his troupe of ragtag troubadours carry a lot of weight as well, providing a wackadoodle wonderland for Dino to project his nostalgia onto. Â
And then thereâs the question of âLove in rewindâ itself. It is easy to lump it in with all the other frivolous folk, but in reality itâs an experimental avant garde song disguised as folk đ (exactly like âPutniciâ, in fact!). The song is made into an artform by a few unorthodox, sudden key changes. Key changes hated by the millennial wannabe pitchfork crew, but here at BorisBubbles we donât support weakness so letâs wave them all goodbye in celebration of what is easily Bosniaâs best Eurovision entry:

42. JOWST ft. Aleksander Wallman - âGrab the momentâ Norway 2017
youtube
[2017 Review here]
As a shameless EDM Hound, I have to admit that I am totally smitten by this piece of electronic undergroundness. A wonderful epileptic seizure of pitch black and lavender, executed to perfection by Aleksander Wallman. âGrab the momentâ offers show-stopping visual effects, great vocal execution and an additctive beat. THE TRIPLE THREAT OF LIVE MUSIC!
Fortunately, thereâs also a great underlying message. I havenât really talked about the Mental Health Anthem all that much in this ranking, but thatâs mostly because I havenât ranked most of them yet. Any song that inspires people to believe in themselves, that it is okay to be imperfect and that tackles social issues such as procrastination and neurosis HEAD ON and WITH RESPECT, deserves praise.
Which is exactly what JOWST & Aleksander do, specifically by addressing young heterosexual men. đ (ie: the demograph that is the least likely to reach out for a support when they need it). They do this very cleverly, by using teenspeak to discuss the ever-relatable theme crippling anxiety and how to lay it aside and get shit done. đ€đ€ so let us allÂ
KILL k177 K!ÂŁÂŁ

41. Ruth Lorenzo - âDancing in the Rain Spain 2014
youtube
THE RAIIIIIN THE RAIIIIN THE RAIIIIIN
Ruth. Yo quiero ser Ruth. Because Ruth is emblematic of Spainâs biggest (only) strength in Eurovision: the LOUD OVERDRAMATIC SCREECHING POWERBALLAD đ There are so many precedents to Ruth, from âĂlâ to âVuelve Conmigoâ to âBailar pegadosâ to âQuedate conmigoâ but âDancing in the rainâ may be my favourite of the lot. In part because Ruth is a GODDESS and I was *invested* in her success the second she won the NF:
Which she then followed up by forming a backstage bitch coven with Conchita and Suzy. đ Excuse me for a moment, I have to lay myself down and blow myself with a fan because that alliance contains so much awesomeness it gives me palpitations.Â
But I mostly love âDancing in the rainâ because of the performance. Itâs a great composition in its own right, providing intense screaminess, well-executed language changes and of course, literal stage rain. đ However, Ruth is SO intense in her delivery it becomes a moment of contemplation, of exaltation, and of stupefication as Ruthâs SONIC ENERGY washes over us like a tsunami of sound. DEJA CAER, DEJA LA LLUVIA CAER, THE RAIN THE RAIN THE RAIN
________________________________________________________________
and since this is the last update for Spain, Bosnia, Moldova and Denmark, Iâll include my overall thoughts below.Â
DENMARK
The only people who like Denmark in this decade are those with negative taste and no self-respect and those desperately wanting to be Swedes but never will be Swedes (ie: Danes)
MOLDOVA
Not a âperfectâ track record, but still an excellent showing for a country with so few resources. Moldova is one of my favourite countries in ESC and this chart should show you why.Â
BOSNIA - HERZEGOVINA
Bosnia - Herzegovina participated four times in this decade and were epic exactly once. Thank you for that... now I normally would add that I miss them but, nah. Bye.Â
SPAIN
I am honestly shocked Spain didnât do worse on my ranking?? I donât think theyâre like.. a âTERRIBLEâ esc country the way Ireland and Montenegro are, but jesus fuck out of the cavalcade of incompetent countries that have no idea what the fuck theyâre doing, Spain is the giantslewofincompetentcountriesthathavenoideawhatthefucktheyâredoingest. Which is puzzling given that all of their high results come from kickass female-fronted powerballads, ie: the easiest trope to nail. (case in point: Macedonia scored a top 10 with one. Macedonia.) JUST STICK TO THOSE and ditch the wannabe reggaetons.Â

Why You May Already Be A Unitarian Universalist! Or, a short guide to the goofy hippie aunt of the theological world (but the kind of aunt who has been to protests and Seen Some Shit)
Do any of these sound like you:
âIâd like a safe setting to explore my spiritual beliefs, but Iâve got baggage about organized religion!â
âI wish there was a church for atheists!â
âI wish there was a church for people who arenât sure if they believe in god or not!â
âOver the years Iâve slowly assembled a highly personal grab-bag of spiritual beliefs and practices, but I miss service projects and singing hymns and drinking coffee on Sundays!â
âI need a religious community that supports rights for people of all genders, races, religious beliefs, sexual or affectional orientations, ability statuses, and national origins!â
âI want to raise my kids in a church that offers an extremely comprehensive, LGBTQA-friendly, shame-free sex ed program to all teenagers!â
Or conversely,
âIâve already found a different personal belief system that feels right for me, but I am intellectually curious about where youâre going with this!â (Perfectly valid!)
If any of the above is true, or if you just feel like killing some time on the internet (also valid), read on!
âSo, what do you guys believe?â
Modern Unitarian Universalism is a religion without a creed. That means you can be UU while believing in as many or as few deities as you want (including none or âI donât knowâ or even âthe very question doesnât feel that important to meâ). There is no consensus within the church on an afterlife (if any), or a holy book (if any), or even which holidays to celebrate, other than presumably, like, the birthdays of your friends and loved ones.
Plenty of UUs identify as agnostic or atheist, but we also have members whose beliefs are informed by Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, earth-centered/Pagan traditions, and/or Humanism, among others.
Asking an individual UU about their beliefs is sort of like asking someone about their taste in music. Itâs meaningful to them, itâs shaped by their own history and experiences, and no two people will have exactly the same answer.
âWait, you guys donât agree on anything? What even brings you together?â
A DEEP AND EVERLASTING LOVE OF COMMITTEES.
No, sorry, that was a hilarious joke playing off an old Unitarian Universalist stereotype, which is that we are super into discussing things and then voting on them as a group.
Hilarious.
Itâs hard to speak for all Unitarian Universalists, and some of them might quibble with the exact wording Iâm about to use, but I feel like part of what makes us a bonafide religion is a deep shared conviction that trying your hardest to be kind, fair, and moral is itself sacred.
âIf you canât agree on a religious text, how in the world are you guys on the same page about what it means to be moral?â
I mean, sometimes weâre not? We like a good debate.
But although we donât have a creed, we do have a common set of principles we try to use as a guide. Here they are, straight from the Unitarian Universalist Association website:
The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
âUh, thatâs compatible with every world religion and also, like, Captain Planet.â
Listen, nobody in the Unitarian Universalist church is gonna stop you from using a nineties environmentalism cartoon as a holy text. Embrace your truths. As a group of young sages once said, âSaving our planet is the thing to do.â
âI already believe all of those principles. Am I a Unitarian Universalist?â
I mean, if you want to be!
âŠalthough the definition of a UU is broad enough these days that weâve got a quirky (and in retrospect maybe kind of problematic?) habit of retroactively claiming dead historical figures* who demonstrated a belief in the seven principles during their lives. Like, âThat person PROBABLY WOULDâVE BEEN Unitarian Universalist, given the chance! One of us! One of us!â
That said, if youâre reading this, youâre probably alive, so at least for the time being it is your call!
*I am now bound by ancient UU law to list to you some dead historical figures who actually self-identified as Unitarian Universalists (or Unitarians or Universalists, since the two didnât meld together until a series of meetings in the 1960âs):
Olympia Brown (the first fully ordained female minister in the U.S., also an abolitionist and feminist)
President John Quincy AdamsÂ
Joseph Priestley (18th century theologian credited with discovering oxygen)
Ralph Waldo Emerson and a number of the early American Transcendentalists
Louisa May Alcott
Elizabeth Gaskell (author of North and South, among others)
Rod Serling (Twilight Zone creator)
Beatrix Potter
Pete flippinâ Seeger, hell yeahhhhhh
âWho runs this show?â
Rife as it would be for comic possibility, there is no Unitarian Pope. There are no cardinals. Authority is for the most part pretty decentralized. Individual congregations govern themselves, through committees and elections. A minister has to be approved by their congregation before itâs official.
Those Seven Principles above came, like I said, from the Unitarian Universalist Association, which is made up of delegates from churches all over the country, and every year they get together and vote on major stuff. But yeah, congregation to congregation, things can vary pretty widely in terms of how they do stuff, or even whether to use the word âchurch.â (Some instead call themselves a âsociety,â or a âfellowship.â)
âWhat the heck does a UU hymn even sound like?â
Oh man, this reminds me of that classic Unitarian Universalist joke, âWhy are Unitarians so bad at hymns?â
Answer: âBecause theyâre too busy reading ahead to make sure they agree with all the lyrics!â
Priceless.
But in reality, some of our songs are, like, transcendentalist poems that have been awkwardly squeezed onto the melody of some older hymn or classical piece. Sometimes you sing John Lennonâs âImagine,â seemingly without a trace of irony. Sometimes youâve got old spirituals about justice (like I said, things can tip towards well-intentioned appropriation) or Christian hymns that have been revised to be nondenominational and gender-inclusive. Sometimes you break out the classics, like âThis Little Light of Mine.â
Hereâs one of my all-time faves, which is based on a translation of a poem by 13th century Persian philosopher and mystic Rumi. Youâve got to wait until the rounds kick in. So good.
âWhatâs the official stance on rights for the LGBTQ+ community?â
Itâs formally recognized by the UUA that our seven principles are totally incompatible with homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, or any other type of bigotry.
Because the power is so decentralized, I canât say that every congregation has always been enlightened, but as religions go, I think itâs pretty widely accepted that the UU church has long been on the forefront of LGBTQ+ rights. There have been UU ministers performing same-sex marriage ceremonies since at least the seventies, and thereâs a long history of activism within the church.
The UUA website has a section detailing our ongoing efforts to be inclusive of all genders and orientations. If youâre a member of the LGBTQ+ community and nervous about visiting a UU church for the first time, you might also want to aim for one of the churches thatâs specifically opted into our Welcoming Congregation Program, which requires the congregation to go through special training and to offer gender-neutral bathrooms, among other things. (Most UU churches at this point have opted in. If youâre trying to find the closest location thatâs also a Welcoming Congregation, thereâs a checkbox you can click on this handy look-up tool.)
âSo for decades when American politicians were arguing that same-sex couples couldnât marry because it âwent against religionâ, it literally went against this particular religion to discriminate against those same couples?â
Yes. Yes, it was. The Bush years were a weird time.
âWhatâs the official stance on racial justice?â
Weâre in favor of it. (Again: if you take those seven principles seriously, thereâs no pussyfooting around opposing racism.)
Iâm not gonna lie: at least in the suburban midwest UU churches Iâve attended, we are by and large, uh, pretty white. So I canât really speak to whether or not a person of color would feel comfortable there. Iâd imagine it would widely vary by individual and by congregation.
Our track record with Civil Rights is probably on par with any ultra-liberal, service-based American religion. We had a lot of early white abolitionists (given how low the bar was back then, Iâm sure many would be considered racist by todayâs standards), we had members active in the Civil Rights movement (if you saw Selma, that minister who gets killed by an angry mob was one of ours), and I think there was even a while pre-McCarthyism where we were closely allied with socialism and our members included some people of color who were key activists in confronting racism and supporting unions.
And then the Red Scare happened and our religion barely survived and we leaned away from socialism, and since then weâve always kinda been predominantly an upper to middle class white liberal thing, with all the blinders that implies.
But a lot of UU churches have expressed solidarity with Black Lives Matter and with the protests at Standing Rock, and there is a growing movement within the church to confront and examine any latent white supremacy in ourselves and in our congregations.
One of the things that endeared me to my current church was when the minister announced that we were all invited to a racial justice protest, which had been organized by a black Christian church in the Chicagoland area. And the minister said, essentially,
âListen, they are going to use religious wording that may not align with your personal beliefs. And what I need you to do is imagine youâve got a Universal Translator like in Star Trek. And if they say âthe glory of Godâ and it makes you uncomfortable, think âthe glory of human kindness.â If they say âthe spirit of the Lordâ, you can think âthe spirit of Life.â Because these Christians are out there doing the work that fits with our deepest values, and in the end, we have more in common than not. Sometimes we need to get over ourselves, and follow where they lead.â
At our worst, Iâd characterize us as well-meaning but clueless (i.e. using the stories or imagery of world religions as a metaphor, in a way that flirts with appropriation). At our best, weâve got some activists of color on the front lines, doing cool shit.
âThis all sounds...so incredibly Politically CorrectâŠâ
Yeah, we strive to be accepting of everyone but I should warn you upfront that if P.C. culture upsets you, Unitarian Universalism is probably not gonna be a good fit.
âDid you say something about comprehensive sex ed for teens? In church?â
I certainly did! Through the OWL (Our Whole Lives) program, specially trained adults teach the youths a multi-year curriculum about bodily autonomy, consent, respect, healthy communication, gender identity, sexual orientation, safe sex (including passing around condoms and dental dams), destigmatizing sexuality, and relationships, among other things. Also, you can anonymously submit questions at any point, and your teachers will do some research and provide an answer next week.
When I was young, this was seventh and eighth grade Sunday school. I think since then, they developed the program to include age-appropriate components for younger kids, and to focus more on high schoolers. Â
âSeriously?â
When my older brother went through an earlier iteration of the program, the curriculum included a slideshow with photos of actual naked people, who were just random UU volunteers from the seventies. By the time it was my turn, these had been replaced by tasteful charcoal drawings.
âSo on a scale from one to ten, how warped is your brother?â
Heâs doing great! Actually, heâs a member of his local UU church and a volunteer OWL teacher. Though if I had to guess, heâs probably pretty relieved he doesnât have to contend with those slides.
âWhere can I find out more about Unitarian Universalism?â
Hereâs the UUA website. Hereâs that nearest-church-finding tool I mentioned before. If you donât know if youâre ready to jump from 0 to physically stepping into a sanctuary, especially if youâve got a bit of that olâ social anxiety, hereâs the ask that reminded me to post this whole mess in the first place, about how to maybe ease yourself into things a little first.
âHang onâŠif you break these words down into their roots, âUnitarianâ implies existence of a single god, as opposed to the widely accepted Christian trinity, while âUniversalismâ surely refers to the notion of universal salvation, meaning that both terms seem to point to a specific concrete (if perhaps somewhat heretical) doctrine based around Christian concepts like God, Jesus, and Heavenâmeaning, in short, that the very name of your religion seems to belie the nigh-endless spiritual possibility youâve been describing in this blog postâŠwhat gives?â
Well, youâre not wrong. The name at this point is largely vestigial. But to understand how we ended up where we are today, and how we arrived there with this awkward polysyllabic soup of a name, Iâm gonna need to take you through a couple of centuries of heated theological debate.
âDo you NEED to?â
I mean, âneedâ is relative, but thatâs definitely my plan!
Stay tuned for part II, âA (Very Very Very) Informal History of Unitarians, Universalists, and their Unholy (or Possibly Very Holy) Meldingâ
#not tryin to push my faith but i do think plenty of folks are already secret UUs#and just need a word for it#and in times like these it can be really good to stand in a room of people with your values#who are sad and angry as you are and for the same reasons#and searching out hope and community despite it all

are u ready 4 me to b the meanest person yet bc i sure am lets fucking go
so theres this girl. and i know her (unfortunately) and ive known her since like 4 years ago and back then she was already pretty shit tbh
she cried bc she had to sit in between the âweirdâ and âdirtyâ girls in our class and she headass cried in front of them and everyone just bc she didnt like the arrangement?? shes called the âdirtyâ girl disgusting before and has made fun of her in front of everybody its just bad :-/
now. fast forward 3 years and in addition to still being disrespectful and rude, she now vocalizes her weird fantasies for her âoppasâ??? some examples:Â
âwhen i go watch __ perform im gonna climb onto stage and then my mother and my future husband will fight for meâ and she calls those kpop idols weird shit and basically sexualizes them/???? she says the weirdest fucking shit on her ig story and tags them???????Â
another thing. she went to korea nd took a picture of a complete stranger and posted it on her public ig and called him her âoppaâ and said that they had a âfun day togetherâ despite the guy not knowing her at all???? she posted the pic of him??? i still dont get it tbhÂ
she wasnt even being ironic at all??? she calls herself & classmates âautisticâ whenever she/others do smth dumb or mess up and its just sososososo fucking wrong
being one of the people to see how shes basically grown from bad to worse is something i dont fucking enjoy and i jsut want to leave my class already lmaoÂ
ok but there are times where i do appreciate her because sometimes the class will be rly quiet and the teacher is basically talking 2 themselves but sheâll always respond w/o fail so thats great but its only bc she talks so damn muchÂ
i just got a flashback to when she âjokinglyâ said she wanted to be a trainee for the rest of her life how do i just. god

đŽ opinion on day6?
ur rly gonna do this 2m e?
all alone just started playng this is terrible lets get it
so day6. a band i only found out about in late june (thank u boxy) and before this i only ever listened to bts and mx bc my friends stan them so i thought i was gonna expect boys dancing, the usual.Â
i clicked i smile and i lost my fucking shit as soon as i saw the instruments because prior to day6 i was a big 5sos fan so this was rly resonating to me tbh and i was just !!! so fukcng excited??? i never intended to even get into day6 honestly??? but after witnessing how good they are and watching about all of the available mvs at that point i was completely in awe so i caved a created a stan twitter for them.
now, this isnt even the most of it. after becoming a fan i realized how much more these 5 boys are. they compose (if im not wrong) and brian writes lyrics for the songs each month because of their everyday6 project and again, im wow-ed because??? the amount of dedication???? they went from releasing 2 title tracks in 2 years to releasing 12 title tracks and 12 bside tracks in a single year. they havent released the december song yet but haviing to work on 2 or more songs in 4 weeks is fucking amazing if you ask me.Â
theyre really talented and theyre just so versatile (am i using that word correctly) and each month their songs sound different. this project has given them the opportunity to try new things and you can hear the steady improvement in each of their vocals (dowoonie not so much since he barely gets lines, but we all know hes working hard) and if you listen to their debut song - kongchu and compare it to the version they released along with sunrise it just???? the drumming has even changed from the original version nd its so noticeable that whenever i hear kongchu from 2015 i know its the old ver
to add to those, they do vlives every week and although those vlives are always scheduled it still makes my day seeing them and watching them do the usual.Â
one thing im upset about is that how they barely promote themselves, they rarely get on variety shows (the most is individual schedules) and we, as mydays never really get to know the boys so its harder to fall for them as a whole. i dont know if its jyp or day6âČs decision but if this is how they want to be known for - their music only, then so be it. we still have jaeâs presence on youtube, music access and asc. thats the most we can get and it makes it difficult for us to learn about the rest but thats okay.
another thing. their concerts are something i always look forward to (even though my interest has died down a bit;) their concerts are just so fun to listen to?? thereâll always be mydays who stream the concert so everyone else can listen to them play and they sound so good live it drives me crazy. mydays are always so hyped and whenever mydays sing along it just gives me goosebumps??? bc theyre so???? good?????Â
tldr; day6 deserve more, following wise and promotions wise because they work so hard and once this project ends i hope theyâll manage to rest but still remain as a presence that will be known instead of returning to jypâs dungeon.
