Just heard the news about WB telling Misha Collins to pretend he's bisexual.
I mean there's token representation and then there's "okay no homos onscreen but maybe if we make the actor queer." 🤣🤣🤣

dsjhfjkdj winteriron with that fight prompt would be god tier please give us that gift
Here’s something that most know about Tony Stark: he doesn’t keep his mouth shut, and he likes to know everything. It took many deals to make sure he didn’t tell the US people exactly what was in Area 51.
(He made the sure the deal expires two years from now, there’s no way in fuck he’s not telling people about the whole North Dakota thing.)
Tony has grown up with power. He knows how to manipulate it, how others manipulate it, and he’s not afraid of it. That’s a dangerous thing, to not be afraid of power. But when you run an influential company that can make or break people at an alarming rate, but not that alarming because he doesn’t use it for evil, then it’s...well.
You’re not scared of threats. And if the people threatening you are smart, they’ll realize why.
This is why when Alexander Pierce walks into his office and charmingly tells him all about his plan to threaten Tony Stark with death and blackmail of the sexual kind involving two men, Tony snorts.
“Pierce, fire whoever the fuck got you that little blackmail. Half of America has seen my asshole before, it’s not anything new. It’ll just be more material that people see, and to be quite frank, I don’t think my sleeping with men will hurt literally anything besides some conservatives with children or community or whatever, but I couldn’t give less of a shit. Tell me, does my ass look good in that video? I wasn’t sure that time around...”
Pierce turns red with rage. Tony’s used to it.
“As for death,” he steamrolls on. “Go for it. I assume since I stopped creating weapons you have Hammer weapons now or some incredibly old Stark weaponry, which is hard to find given the fact that there’s an order to destroy all of it or donate it to a museum. And if it’s neither and you’re planning on a knife or anything, go right ahead. Try and kill me. I guarantee you won’t.”
“You have no idea who you’re going up against,” Pierce warns, voice turning low and gravelly.
Tony laughs. “I’m going up against an old leader of a mob named Hydra who had to hide because of my Aunt Peggy being the most terrifying leader around. You couldn’t make a move. And now you’re recruiting people, but you think you’re being so slick about it. I can and will make sure that you are burned along with the rest of your little game. That sound nice?”
“And how will you do that?” Pierce asks. “You think you can find all of us?”
“Yes,” Tony says easily. (He doesn’t know this, but like. It’s Hydra. How hard can it be?) “Because if you’re so reliant on your own power status, then how easily will it be for your organization to crumble?”
Pierce is sent away, and Tony tweets out that he got threatened. Casual Wednesday stuff. Then he says he’s flying away for safety.
This is a flat-out lie. Pepper knows it. Rhodey knows it. Maybe someone reading the tweet in the middle of Wisconsin knows it, hell if Tony can guess.
But the point is, no one else will think it’s a lie, especially when he sends a plane over somewhere tropical.
He’s staying put in New York. The best lie is one that is grand, multiple small holes in this lie, and one that doesn’t involve not going out in public. Everyone else will be looking for Pierce. Not Tony Stark.
Tony is looking for someone else--or rather, a group.
They call themselves the Avengers. A group of people that rival Pierce in power, although their group is smaller and more concentrated at getting people out of positions of power.
It’s understandable.
Tony walks right into their office building.
There’s a guy who he thinks is Clint? He spills his ramen.
“Oh fuck, my ramen,” he whines. “What the fuck are you doing here, Stark?”
“I have a favor to ask,” Tony says with a shrug. “Who do I talk to about favors? And your security? It lacks, to be completely honest. I expected more from you all.”
“Security is me,” comes a voice from behind. Tony side-steps a charge from a woman who was lunging for him.
“Ms. Romanov, I expected more from someone who worked for my company for six months.”
“You remember?” Natasha asks, surprised.
“Natasha I do love my scotch, but not enough to black out anymore,” Tony says. “Honestly, who do you take me for? A floozy?”
She smiles.
“Good to have you here, Stark. Wish the circumstances could be better. Let me take you to Barnes.”
Well. Tony Stark was not expecting Barnes to look like that. He wasn’t expecting any of them, to be completely honest.
“Is the expectation to be attractive and a model?” Tony asks. “Is this your interview process for new candidates? Wow. Okay.”
James Barnes stares at him.
“Why are you here?”
“Alexander Pierce,” Tony says. “He tried to threaten me in my own offices, and I’d like to destroy him. A bit of an impulsive project, but I bet he’s going to infest more things if we’re not careful. I want your help.”
“Consider it done,” Barnes says. No thought needed. Natasha looks at him. “What did you have in mind?”
“I am technologically gifted,” Tony says. “I already have gotten into some files that definitely are not for the public and I’ve found a lot of people that are Hydra. We need to round them up, encircle Pierce, and get him to break. Preferably on national television, but that’s just my own flair for the dramatic coming up.”
James nods. He reaches out his hand. The metal one.
It’s meant to intimidate people, tell them that that’s their fate if they fuck up the deal.
Tony stares at it almost with reverence, a bit of confusion, and then understanding.
“Your fingers need to be re-calibrated soon. And I’m going to replace something in your arm.”
“What?”
Tony laughs.
“Barnes, you’re wearing an arm I created. I know it as well as you do, maybe better. I want you to come down to my shop some time this week and have it worked on, if you’re comfortable with that.”
And so the deal starts.
“Do we think this is a good idea?” Steve asks cautiously. “Is this seriously just something he decides on a whim?”
“Steve, I’m going to pretend like you questioning the most famous billionaire of all time but not for shitty reasons is asking us for help,” Bruce says. “I am planning on taking full advantage of this and breaking into his labs for science reasons since I’m not trusted with a Bunsen burner here.”
“You used it to make soup and it ended horribly,” Clint reminds him. “And I know, because I supported you.”
“You’re the only one on this team who does,” Bruce says.
Bucky does bring Bruce along. He’s figuring that part of the deal can be that Bruce can actually use a real lab.
Tony’s focus zeroes in on Bruce, actually.
“So, this is where Dr. Banner’s been hiding,” Tony says. “I’ve been looking around for you for quite some time, Bruce.”
Bruce blushes.
“Well, thank you Dr. Stark.”
Bucky raises an eyebrow.
“Bruce here is a legend in the scientific community for two reasons,” Tony says. “He was the first to call Richard Reed a little bitch, and his scientific papers are the stuff of legend. I presume you want a lab?”
“If it’s not too much.”
“Nope, not at all. After everything is done, you’ll have a lab here.” Bruce gapes, and Bucky clears his throat.
Tony’s gaze returns to Bucky.
“So, what can I help you out with?”
“Strategy. And I’m wondering what kind of help you have.”
Tony nods, flipping a picture of a man on his desk.
“Thor. And his brother, but his brother is kind of...temperamental. I think he’ll most likely help because I told him that he could use crazy straws and shaving cream for unknown purposes.”
Bucky raises an eyebrow.
“Trust me, it’ll be worth it. But Thor is good at being discreet, also using an incredible amount of force.”
“His name is Thor,” Bucky states. “For real?”
“As far as I’ve found,” Tony mentions. “I’ve connected him to Rogers and Romanov, they’re already planning together tonight.”
“Then why have us here?” Bucky asks.
“Because I’m getting Bruce’s lab set up with input, and I’m fixing your arm,” Tony says. “So both of you, follow me to my home.”
Bruce is giddy. Beyond giddy. It’s the first time Bucky’s seen a smile on his face for longer than a minute.
(Okay well, a second time. The first time was when Steve tripped over three socks.)
Tony leads Bucky to his “garage” which is full of cars worth more than Bucky’s entire life, and they sit at two chairs as Tony gets out his tools.
“When’s the last time you had a maintenance check?”
“Uh...when I got the arm?” Bucky asks. “Wasn’t exactly aware of maintenance checks.”
“I bet you had Ted as your person,” Tony grumbles. “Hated that dude. Well you can always come and get it tuned up, no charge. They didn’t tell you that. I’ll have to remind them.”
Bucky’s surprised at Tony’s easy confidence, the way his shop is laid out.
He smiles at the robots that curiously come up to investigate.
“Dad has a couple of new friends,” Tony explains. “U and Dum-E, please don’t poke Bucky in the side, he might--”
Bucky laughs, flinching away as the screwdriver drops from Tony’s hand.
“Do that,” Tony says, bending down to pick up the screwdriver. He gets a random bolt, one of the larger ones.
“Go see if you can pick this up with your claws,” Tony says, throwing it in the opposite direction. The bots squeal after it. Tony sends a look to Bucky.
“Kids. They’re a mess.”
“You named them...that?” Bucky says.
“Yup,” Tony says. “The one that’s anxiously looking behind the couch is U, like the letter. He really liked pointing when he was first born and the first word he learned was ‘you.’ He’s a cutie. The charmer there who’s spinning and trying to show off his new tape that Pepper decorated him with is Dum-E. He’s a drama queen. I have no idea where he gets it from, honestly.”
Bucky laughs.
From then, Bucky and Tony work in close quarters together. It’s nice, honestly. They’ve been cracking down on Hydra, driving them into a smaller and smaller circle.
“You think after all this is over, you want to get dinner some time?” Tony asks.
Bucky smiles. “I’d love that. Where do you want to go?”
“Your choice,” Tony says. “As a thank you for helping.”
“Anything for you, doll.”
And then Tony gets kidnapped. By all accounts he’s not sure why he wasn’t expecting it. Maybe because it was a Sunday night, and you shouldn’t kidnap people on Sunday nights. It’s rude is what it is.
They also punch his mouth, which ugh. That just ruined his good days of not having any chapped lips. He was working hard on that particular aspect.
Bucky goes into overdrive. He didn’t think this would happen because Tony is a very central figure to the city, a figure to the US. To be this ballsy? It’s a death sentence.
He knows death sentences quite well. Been on a few himself.
Hydra should be quaking, because he’s getting his knives strapped.
Hydra is not quaking. Or in fear. It’s because they have quite the large ego, which no organization should have. But powerful men who have another powerful man in their grasp tend to think the world is bowing to them, when in fact the world does not give a shit but their enemies do.
This is why Bucky breaks into the building in two minutes (personal best), throat-punches six people, and finds Tony singing “Turn Back Time” as loudly as possible.
“Oh! You’re here!” Tony says. “I was beginning to think I’d have to drive the guards to insanity.”
“Who did this to you,” Bucky asks, tilting Tony’s chin up in his grasp. He can see dried blood on the corners. He hates that Tony had to go through with that.
“Bucky, it was Hydra, who else?” Tony says. “Pierce if we’re being specific. But you might want to stop doing that or I’m gonna get hot and bothered under the collar, which isn’t my style. You wanna break out of here or stay with me? I’m not fond of the last option.”
“Then why give it as an option?”
“I don’t know!” Tony yelps, grabbing one of Bucky’s knives and throwing it at a man’s leg. “But let’s get out of here. Or at least, to their file room. They keep files. What losers.”
Bucky laughs.
“Got it doll. Let’s go.”
For the record, it’s a huge success. Pierce gets taken away in handcuffs for roughly about life in prison, unless their prison system decides he’s been good after about ten years, and then he might get released. Who knows. Point is, Bucky and Tony will both be alive in ten years, prepared to make sure he goes to jail again or they’ve reformed the jail system by then. It’s all up in the air, really.
But they’re doing it together. Which is all the more important.

your secret // kara danvers
summary: It wasn't difficult to put two and two together - Kara was an alien and you knew that. Hiding the fact that you knew she was hiding this was much more difficult however...
warning/s: none.
masterlist
Tumblr media
Kara Danvers was strange ever since I first met her. University was full of weirdos (as I was kindly warned by my parents), but Kara was more 'strange' than 'weird'. Don't get me wrong, she was an amazing person, but certain things about her were... odd.
We were roommates at National City University and I remember meeting her and thinking "wow, this girl is always happy". As time went on, we became closer and closer and suddenly, we were best friends. But it was in all of that time, and more, that I noticed the little things about her that were different.
She could lift things heavier than herself, which certainly caught my attention. Then there was the fact that she would never wear oven gloves when taking things out of the oven. Or the fact that I sometimes witnessed her heating up her hot drink with lasers from her eyes.
Honestly, at first, it was shocking, mind-blowing, unbelievable and– well, you get the hint. I was very confused (to say the least), but I eventually got over that confusion and kinda got used to it. I never asked her about it because she was obviously trying to keep this power a secret. But I did have so many questions. Mostly along the lines of "is she even human?"
Despite the many pressing questions I had, I never pressured her or even made it noticeable that I knew of her powers. She was keeping them a secret for a reason and she would tell me when she was ready. If anything, it made her kind of adorable. She was this bundle of sunshine that was my best friend who I may or may not have had feelings for and she had powers that were beyond imaginable. Hm.
That brought me to now. Three years later and we were roommates, again. Except this time, we lived in an apartment in National City. She was a journalist at CatCo Media and I was an English teacher at our local high school. We kept each other sane in this grown up world and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
"Y/N, I'm leaving now!" I heard Kara call from the front door, and I immediately dropped my pencil and called back.
         "Wait! Lemme see you!"
I jumped off my bed and went to the living-area. Our apartment was an open space, so I could see her from here, hovering by the front door. She was wearing black skinny jeans, a blue jumper and a white leather jacket that made her look very attractive.
"Do I look okay?" she asked, biting her lower lip and glancing down at her outfit. "I'm hoping this won't be my first and last Tinder date."
I chuckled at her uneasiness and smiled reassuringly. "You look beautiful, Kara. I'm sure this Kevin guy will say the same."
Kara smiled bashfully and pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose – a nervous habit of hers.
"Thanks, Y/N," she said, her blue eyes meeting mine. "I honestly don't know what I'd do without you."
I glanced at the watch on my wrist before stepping forward and opening the door for her. "You'd be late. Now go on, Danvers. You don't wanna keep Kevin waiting!"
Her melodious laughter echoed around me and I felt the butterflies in my stomach swirl a storm at the sound of it. She leaned in to give me a quick hug before waving goodbye and leaving me alone in our apartment. When she was gone, I released a heavy sigh.
I was happy for her, I really was... but it didn't mean it didn't hurt me a little to know that she was going on a date with somebody else. She never was good with the whole dating thing. Even in university, she didn't really find anyone she connected with. That's why this was a big deal to her now and why I was showing my utmost support. But even so, I still wished I could suck it up and ask her out.
Barely an hour had passed when I saw something completely unexpected. I was sat in the living-room, on my laptop, planning a lesson. The TV was on, the news playing in the background. The sound of a presenter narrating a flight crashing caught my attention as I recognised the flight number as the same number Alex (Kara's sister) was flying on.
I fumbled around for the volume button on the remote before turning it up and watching the screen with wide eyes.
"It seems that the plane is slowing down and... wait a minute. That's a person holding it!"
The camera zoomed in on an individual directing the plane into the water. The crash didn't look like it had hurt anyone because it was slowed down. The same figure who seemed to be strong enough to carry it down emerged from the water and stepped onto the wing of the plane. Helicopters were flying above, directing spotlights on the anonymous girl. The news reporter was babbling on about a new superhero, meanwhile, my jaw had dropped.
         It was Kara.
The picture wasn't clear and it was dark outside, so it was hard to make out her face, but I knew it was her. She was wearing the same outfit, I recognised her hair and she was the only person I knew with super strength!
"Holy shit," I said, unable to believe my eyes. The whole world now knew that she existed. Maybe not who she was, but they knew she was there.
I stayed up that evening, until Kara returned from her date. As I was pacing, I realised how amazing Kara was. She saved all of those people, including Alex, and risked her life in the process. But she did it and now everything was okay. Nobody got hurt. She truly was a hero. And I was so proud of her.
I wondered if she would share with me who she really was when she came home. Maybe she knew that I knew? Would this be when she would finally reveal her secret?
When I heard keys rattling in the door, I sat at the kitchen counter and pulled out my phone, pretending to be using it. Kara soon walked in and squeaked with surprise when she saw me up.
I smiled and looked up, only to act confused when I saw her soaking wet from head to toe. Though, that confirmed my thoughts of her being the girl on our TV. She was the hero.
"Erm... bad date?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. I secretly hoped she would finally tell me the truth.
As she closed the door, I saw her smile awkwardly. "Yeah... the guy was an ass. So, I walked it home and it, uh, rained."
I stifled the urge to laugh at her bad excuse. I figured she wasn't going to share the truth with me just yet, and I respected that, so I allowed her to come up with an excuse, despite how terrible it was.
"Okay, well, I'll let you get cleaned up," I said, offering a small smile before heading to my room. It wasn't really private seeing as it was all open space, but it gave Kara time to think about everything.
After she sorted everything out, I remembered the two of us watching the news and talking about this 'mysterious saviour'. Kara obviously tried her best to hide the fact that it was her, but she was just so darn excited and I couldn't help but let her ramble freely about how amazing this 'person' must have felt.
She was bad at hiding things from me, but I let her have it because it was her secret to keep. Plus, I liked seeing her eyes light up with excitement as she recalled the events. She looked beautiful.
Alex stopped by that evening, too, probably to check on Kara. From the looks of it, she wasn't too happy with Kara's actions. I said I'd give them some space to talk, so I never actually heard their conversation, but I could only presume it was good. I mean, why wouldn't it be?
As time went on, Supergirl became the hero of National City. Everywhere I went, I saw the superhero that was my best friend, plastered on billboards, in magazines, on my television. She was saving people left, right and centre and I felt so proud of her. Though, she still hadn't told me the truth.
Everything I learnt about the real her was through interviews with 'Supergirl'. I learnt she was Kryptonian and Superman's cousin when Kara interviewed, well, herself, and accidentally revealed that information. It did hurt to learn these amazing things about her through secondary sources. It made me question whether she trusted me just as much as I trusted her. Did she really think I didn't know? But I wouldn't let that bother me because something was holding her back and I had to respect that and wait until the time was right. If it ever was.
A lot of things added up, though. She was adopted, which made sense because she was a literal alien. Whenever we were at university, she would get homesick and I would try to comfort her and make her feel better. That made sense now though. She didn't miss her home. She missed Krypton.
I remember coming home from work one evening and finding her curled up on the couch, staring ahead at nothing. I left my coat and bag by the door and headed towards her, sitting on the couch. She was wrapped in her fluffy blanket, and barely acknowledged my presence.
"Kara, you okay?" I asked gently, resting a hand on her lap.
She glanced at me before moving forward and laying on my lap. A shaky sigh escaped her lips and I frowned at her discomfort. I moved her hair from her eyes and ran my hands through it soothingly. I felt her shoulders relax as I did so.
"I miss home," was all she said.
I knew she was talking about Krypton. About her family there. I wondered what happened. Why she came here. How old she was when she came. If she wasn't too young, then having some memories of what she once had must have been hurting her inside. And so it hurt me.
But she didn't know I knew who she was. She didn't know, so I had to play dumb.
"You can visit anytime, Kara," I feigned reassurance, only causing her to sigh quietly. She thought I didn't understand. I wished she knew I did.
"It doesn't matter," she mumbled quietly.
I frowned and looked down at her. I wished she would talk to me and not bottle everything up. I truly wished she would trust me enough to share this important part of her life with me. Not for me, but for her.
I just wanted her to be okay.
Surprisingly, we still remained as close as we were. She skirted the topic of discussing Supergirl and managed to avoid slipping the truth out to me. We would hang out, spend time together (which we kind of had to since we lived together), but not once did she tell me the truth about her.
At this point, admittedly, I was growing self-conscious to our friendship. I was eighty percent sure that her close friend from work, Winn Schott, knew about her powers. There were times when I'd see the two privately discussing matters, acting secretive around me and blatantly hiding a secret which I could only presume was about her superhero status. James Olsen, another friend from her workplace, would sometimes be involved in their discussions, too. She began to spend a lot more time with the two, which made me feel a bit left out.
         Okay, a lot left out.
I figured she trusted them more than me, but it was when she returned home late in the evening when I realised that maybe she didn't tell me because she wanted at least one person to be just Kara around.
I was reading a book on the couch, settling in for the evening, when I heard the front door open. Presuming it was Kara, I called out to her, not looking up from my book.
"There's some leftovers in the fridge if you're hungry."
There was no response, so I looked up and saw the blonde hanging up her coat. It was unusual for her to not say anything; she was usually so outspoken and bubbly, so I tried to get her attention.
         "How was work?"
She finally turned around, managing to give me a forced smile and a little thumbs up. I instantly noticed the sadness in her red eyes. She'd been crying.
"Kara..." I dropped my book in a heartbeat and went to her, wanting to get a closer look and see if my eyes were betraying me. But no. Her eyes were glassy and the smile on her lips only showed sadness and regret.
"I'm okay," she lied, her voice hoarse and her hand shaking slightly as she tried to motion for me to step back. "I'm–"
"You're not okay," I breathed out, stepping forward.
She tried to shake her head, but obviously her emotions got the best of her and she covered her mouth with a shaking hand. Tears escaped her eyes and I couldn't help but move forward and pull her into a hug. She finally let it out, no longer hiding how she felt, and my heart ached as she sobbed into my arms.
"You're okay," I consoled her, rubbing circles on her back. "Everything is okay."
I never did find out why she was crying that night. What could have possibly been so horrible that it caused the girl of steel to crack? To break down horribly? But it did make me realise that at that moment, she wasn't the girl of steel at all. Not Supergirl.
She was Kara Danvers, my best friend, and she needed comforting.
***
As time went on, Supergirl's shifts at saving the world happened to be more and more frequent. Kara was rarely around, and when she was, she was tired or had to come up with some lame, unbelievable excuse as to why she had to leave again. Yes, it was very selfish of me to wish she wouldn't have to go save lives all the time... I just wanted my best friend back, was that too much to ask for?
But there was a time when she didn't come back. It was a Tuesday evening. I'd said my goodbye's to Kara in the morning at breakfast, as usual, before I went to work. I started earlier than her so she would make us breakfast and we'd eat together before I had to leave. But it was unusual because I hadn't heard from the blonde throughout the day. Usually she dropped a little text or gave me a call and we'd share stories of dumb things we'd done that day. But she hadn't this time.
When I returned home after work, the apartment was empty. I figured she was doing some Supergirl stuff so I continued my evening as usual, but it was almost midnight and she was nowhere to be seen or heard. So, of course, I worried. I rang and texted, but no response. I went to sleep nonetheless (with great difficulty) and decided to see if she'd show in the morning. But nothing.
Of course my mind thought the worst thoughts. She could have been hurt? Imprisoned? Tortured? She was Supergirl for crying out loud! Always putting herself before others. What if something terrible had happened?
However, it was that same morning, just as I was about to leave for work, when I opened the front door to reveal Kara, appearing unharmed and slightly nervous. Upon instinct, I pulled her in for a bone-crushing hug before pulling apart and glaring at her.
"Where on earth have you been?!" I asked angrily, though I felt slightly reassured to see she was fine.
She smiled awkwardly and walked in, taking a look around. I knew my best friend, so I knew something was different about her when she turned around and met my gaze.
"I had to run some, erm... errands," she blurted out unconvincingly.
         I narrowed my eyes suspiciously.
"I should have called," she admitted, but something was off. Her mannerisms were all different. They were only small details, but I could tell from them that this wasn't Kara. It couldn't be. Even if there was no logical explanation. "I'm going to be gone for a few days, Y/N."
I raised an eyebrow. "Where are you going?"
She chewed the inside of her cheek and avoided my eyes. "I'm heading to Eliza's. I need some time away for a bit. I hope that's okay."
I studied the person who looked suspiciously like Kara. "You've never needed my permission before."
'Kara' widened her eyes and smiled with embarrassment. "Right! I haven't." Her eyes wandered around before settling on the clock hung on the wall. "You should get going! You're going to be late."
I knew she was right, but I wanted to know what was happening here.
"I'll be gone when you're back, and I won't be using my phone much when I'm there, but I'll see you in a few days, yeah?" She leaned forward and pulled me in for a hug, but it was limp and forced and uncomfortable.
         This wasn't Kara.
Whoever it was though, was correct about being gone by the time I returned home that evening. Kara's things were still there though, including her suitcase. Something wasn't right. When I tried to contact Alex, she wasn't answering her calls or texts. She only sent a single text confirming what 'Kara' said this morning – she was at Eliza's. I refused to believe that though.
All I could do was wait and wonder where Kara was and whether she was okay. It wasn't a good feeling.
Few days had passed and it was the weekend. I was watching TV, barely paying attention to what was playing. I felt too anxious to focus on anything. Kara's well-being wouldn't escape my mind. I knew she was practically invincible, but that didn't help ease my nerves at all. Why hadn't she contacted me? At least let me know she was okay?
A knock on the door pulled me from my thoughts and I sighed as I got up to answer it. It was probably the delivery guy – I had no effort to cook today.
I pulled open the door and caught my breath when I saw Kara stood there. The real Kara. I knew it was her because she was smiling, only a small smile, but it reached her eyes and made her look beautiful. She was wearing a hoodie and some jeans – very unlike her. Her glasses weren't on her face and she seemed tired, but she wasn't hurt. Physically, anyway. I felt relieved.
"Y/N," she breathed out. "Hey... I forgot my key when I left," she said as she stepped inside. "And I've just seen your calls and texts... sorry I couldn't answer. I needed some space at Eliza's for a bit..."
I knew I was supposed to act as if nothing was out of the ordinary and as if I hadn't been worried sick about her. But I couldn't help myself as I pulled her in for a hug. She was alive and well and in my embrace.
My arms were wrapped tight around her shoulders and I tucked my face into her neck. Her familiar and comforting scent filled my senses and I knew it was her. No doubt about it.
"I know you were only gone for a few days at Eliza's," I mumbled into her hoodie, playing the part, but not very well, "but I missed you... a lot..."
I wasn't sure if she suspected anything, but I did feel her body relax as a sigh escaped her lips and she wrapped her arms around my waist.
"I missed you, too," she whispered quietly. "So, so much..."
I was curious to what happened to her and what she meant by that, but I knew it wasn't my business to ask. And I knew she wouldn't tell me either. So I suffered in silence and thanked God for bringing her back home safely.
***
I knew of Kara's secret. She thought I didn't know. Everyone thought I didn't know. But I guess I'd become so used to the fact that she did have powers that sometimes, I forgot to play the part of the oblivious best friend.
Kara wanted to host a dinner party at ours for her friends, and since I didn't really have a problem with that, I said yes. She'd invited James, Winn and Alex over.
It was a relatively normal evening, honestly, but certain things would occur that I guess I didn't realise were an issue till later on...
"Kara's been practicing, and it's actually not so terrible," I chirped, glancing at the Kryptonian with a teasing smile.
"Hey," she argued playfully, nudging me in the arm. "My cooking isn't even that bad!"
I raised an eyebrow and simply looked towards her sister and two friends. They all avoided Kara's threatening glare, which only proved me point.
"I hate you all," Kara said with a shrug of her shoulders.
"We're sorry, Kara, but Y/N is kinda right!" Winn tried to apologise. "Your cooking isn't exactly the best..."
Kara rolled her eyes, only making me laugh at her childishness. Just in time, the alarm from the oven went off, signalling the chicken had finished cooking.
"Come on, let's go see if you burnt it," I joked, dragging Kara to the kitchen with me. I heard her grumbling incoherently from behind which made me chuckle in response.
I bent down to the oven and opened it, feeling the heat escape and brushing over my face.
"Kara, can you pass us the oven gloves?" I asked, glancing up, but she merely bent down and grabbed the tray of chicken herself.
"It's okay, I got it," she assured, pulling out the tray with her bare hands.
I was used to this behaviour, since she was an alien and literally felt nothing, from a pinch to a burn. So used to this behaviour in fact, that I forgot it technically wasn't normal behaviour.
"It looks pretty good," Kara complimented herself, and when I stood up beside her, I saw she was grinning like a child.
Her smile was contagious and I found myself mirroring her expression, before checking out the chicken. Roasted to perfection, really.
"Wow, Kara, you've actually done a good job!" I said with sarcasm dripping from my voice.
Kara licked her lips before pouting ever-so-adorably. I gave her a knowing look.
"Oh, Kara, you know I'm kidding," I reassured, before putting an arm on her shoulder and directing our attention to the food. "But we do have to make sure it tastes good."
We called the others to help lay the chicken out with the rest of the food, and as we did, I couldn't help but notice the stare Alex was giving me. A puzzled expression was directed my way, and obviously, at this point, I had absolutely no idea why.
Dinner went by smoothly, and the food was delicious, courtesy of Kara. It was when we were all cleaning the dining table and taking the pots to the sink when another fault on my part came about.
I was washing the dishes when I heard a smash come from behind me. I turned around to see Winn (unsurprisingly), had accidentally dropped a wine glass on the floor. I rolled my eyes at his clumsiness and guilty smile.
         "Oops?"
I suppressed the urge to smile at his dismay before continuing with the washing.
"Kara, do you think you can–?" I began, but was cut off.
"Already on it," she responded, and I glanced over my shoulder to see she was picking up the bits of glass with her hands.
Another action, so simple and thoughtless that I was used to her doing. Many time, she'd cleaned up a mess, that I'd usually made, with her bare hands, so I was used to it. But once again, I forgot that this wasn't normal behaviour.
I finished off washing the last dish before drying my hands. I saw Kara putting the glass in the bin and when she looked up, we exchanged a quick smile. The two of us headed to the living-room, where the others were chatting mindlessly. Once again, Alex was staring at me with a puzzled expression.
The rest of the evening was pretty much that, and it was when we had said goodbye to everyone that Kara had pulled me aside.
"What's up?" I asked the concerned blonde.
She seemed nervous as she avoided my eyes. "Y/N..." She breathed in and out, slowly, before finally looking at me. "You know about me, don't you?"
I certainly wasn't expecting this. She'd made no sign that she was going to talk about her secret, so I was surprised to say the least.
         "Know about you?"
She gave me a knowing look. "C'mon, Y/N... at first, I didn't realise. But Alex noticed today. You know I have powers. You let me take the tray out of the oven without gloves. And you've done so in the past! You watched me clean that glass up and not get cut, just as you've done in the past. You've known this whole time, haven't you?"
I suddenly felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders as she spoke. I hadn't realised how hard it was pretending not to know until now.
"I knew," I admitted, offering a small smile. "I figured it out in university, Kara."
Her eyes widened at this revelation. "What– why didn't you tell me?"
Her blue eyes were glistening with confusion as she didn't look away once. I grew nervous as I shrugged my shoulders.
"I'm not sure?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow. "I don't know, Kara, I guess I just thought, well, it's your secret to tell, isn't it? I couldn't just reveal to you that I knew you were an alien when you were obviously trying so hard to hide it."
She seemed speechless as she finally looked away. She rubbed her head, trying to relieve some sort of tension that was building up.
"Kara, what's wrong?" I asked, resting a hand on her shoulder.
She spread her hands in defeat, a conflicted smile on her lips. "What did I do, Y/N?"
I furrowed my eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
She sighed heavily. "You know that Winn and James know, don't you?" I nodded. "And yet you stuck by me this whole time. You didn't get angry with me or pressure me, but I can only imagine how annoyed you would've been. Believing I didn't trust you with something like this. Especially when we tell each other everything."
I smiled with reassurance as I looked her in the eyes. "Kara, no... at first, maybe I felt a bit jealous that you chose them over me. But I grew to understand and I don't want you feeling bad about any of this."
         "But Y/N–"
"No," I interrupted firmly. "No more buts. Let's just move on. I know and you know I know. Everything is okay. Okay?"
She searched my eyes for any sign of hatred or annoyance or anger, but there was none. I had no hard feelings about any of this.
"Okay," she agreed, before smiling. "Thank you."
I merely nodded in return. "Now... since this is finally out in the open..."
I said nothing more as I rushed forward and hugged her as tightly as I could. She couldn't get hurt anyway, so I held her with all my strength and didn't let go.
"All those times on the news, when I would see you fighting aliens and criminals... I thought that you wouldn't..." I closed my eyes as she wrapped her arms around me. "You would always come back. And I couldn't say a thing about it."
         "I'm sorry," she whispered, regretfully.
I didn't know what else to say, so I just stayed there. Still and in her strong, safe embrace. Where I knew she would be okay.

[Reminder that cops are all scum.]
By Sunil Dutta
Sunil Dutta, Ph.D., is a 17-year-veteran police officer in Los Angeles. His book, “Blood Lines: the Imperial Roots of Terrorism in South Asia,” will be released in February, 2015. These are his personal opinions.
August 19, 2014 at 6:00 AM EDT
A teenager is fatally shot by a police officer; the police are accused of being bloodthirsty, trigger-happy murderers; riots erupt. This, we are led to believe, is the way of things in America.
It is also a terrible calumny; cops are not murderers. No officer goes out in the field wishing to shoot anyone, armed or unarmed. And while they’re unlikely to defend it quite as loudly during a time of national angst like this one, people who work in law enforcement know they are legally vested with the authority to detain suspects — an authority that must sometimes be enforced. Regardless of what happened with Mike Brown, in the overwhelming majority of cases it is not the cops, but the people they stop, who can prevent detentions from turning into tragedies.
Working the street, I can’t even count how many times I withstood curses, screaming tantrums, aggressive and menacing encroachments on my safety zone, and outright challenges to my authority. In the vast majority of such encounters, I was able to peacefully resolve the situation without using force. Cops deploy their training and their intuition creatively, and I wielded every trick in my arsenal, including verbal judo, humor, warnings and ostentatious displays of the lethal (and nonlethal) hardware resting in my duty belt. One time, for instance, my partner and I faced a belligerent man who had doused his car with gallons of gas and was about to create a firebomb at a busy mall filled with holiday shoppers. The potential for serious harm to the bystanders would have justified deadly force. Instead, I distracted him with a hook about his family and loved ones, and he disengaged without hurting anyone. Every day cops show similar restraint and resolve incidents that could easily end up in serious injuries or worse.
Sometimes, though, no amount of persuasion or warnings work on a belligerent person; that’s when cops have to use force, and the results can be tragic. We are still learning what transpired between Officer Darren Wilson and Brown, but in most cases it’s less ambiguous — and officers are rarely at fault. When they use force, they are defending their, or the public’s, safety.
Even though it might sound harsh and impolitic, here is the bottom line: if you don’t want to get shot, tased, pepper-sprayed, struck with a baton or thrown to the ground, just do what I tell you. Don’t argue with me, don’t call me names, don’t tell me that I can’t stop you, don’t say I’m a racist pig, don’t threaten that you’ll sue me and take away my badge. Don’t scream at me that you pay my salary, and don’t even think of aggressively walking towards me. Most field stops are complete in minutes. How difficult is it to cooperate for that long?
I know it is scary for people to be stopped by cops. I also understand the anger and frustration if people believe they have been stopped unjustly or without a reason. I am aware that corrupt and bully cops exist. When it comes to police misconduct, I side with the ACLU: Having worked as an internal affairs investigator, I know that some officers engage in unprofessional and arrogant behavior; sometimes they behave like criminals themselves. I also believe every cop should use a body camera to record interactions with the community at all times. Every police car should have a video recorder. (This will prevent a situation like Mike Brown’s shooting, about which conflicting and self-serving statements allow people to believe what they want.) And you don’t have to submit to an illegal stop or search. You can refuse consent to search your car or home if there’s no warrant (though a pat-down is still allowed if there is cause for suspicion). Always ask the officer whether you are under detention or are free to leave. Unless the officer has a legal basis to stop and search you, he or she must let you go. Finally, cops are legally prohibited from using excessive force: The moment a suspect submits and stops resisting, the officers must cease use of force.
But if you believe (or know) that the cop stopping you is violating your rights or is acting like a bully, I guarantee that the situation will not become easier if you show your anger and resentment. Worse, initiating a physical confrontation is a sure recipe for getting hurt. Police are legally permitted to use deadly force when they assess a serious threat to their or someone else’s life. Save your anger for later, and channel it appropriately. Do what the officer tells you to and it will end safely for both of you. We have a justice system in which you are presumed innocent; if a cop can do his or her job unmolested, that system can run its course. Later, you can ask for a supervisor, lodge a complaint or contact civil rights organizations if you believe your rights were violated. Feel free to sue the police! Just don’t challenge a cop during a stop.
An average person cannot comprehend the risks and has no true understanding of a cop’s job. Hollywood and television stereotypes of the police are cartoons in which fearless super cops singlehandedly defeat dozens of thugs, shooting guns out of their hands. Real life is different. An average cop is always concerned with his or her safety and tries to control every encounter. That is how we are trained. While most citizens are courteous and law abiding, the subset of people we generally interact with everyday are not the genteel types. You don’t know what is in my mind when I stop you. Did I just get a radio call of a shooting moments ago? Am I looking for a murderer or an armed fugitive? For you, this might be a “simple” traffic stop, for me each traffic stop is a potentially dangerous encounter. Show some empathy for an officer’s safety concerns. Don’t make our job more difficult than it already is.
Community members deserve courtesy, respect and professionalism from their officers. Every person stopped by a cop should feel safe instead of feeling that their wellbeing is in jeopardy. Shouldn’t the community members extend the same courtesy to their officers and project that the officer’s safety is not threatened by their actions?

King Kong vs Godzilla (1964) [US Version]
There’s a fundamental problem with this film from the outset: the two studios involved are making it for entirely different reasons. Universal International was cashing in on the ‘Big Monster’ / kaijiu craze (The Blob, The Thing, The Creature from the Black Lagoon) by combining RKO’s character ‘King Kong’ with something exciting and foreign in Toho Studios’ property ‘Godzilla.’ Meanwhile, Toho Studios was using its big anniversary as a studio as an excuse to cram all of its popular actors and intellectual properties into one film, scattering logic to the four winds to accomplish it (it’s a wonder we don’t have Toshiro Mifune come strutting through brandishing a katana at some point). While those two driving forces don’t have to be at odds with each other, the US version takes the original, Japanese version and attempts to frame it in some sense of rational predictability, an approach which is inherently flawed. I’m going to try to ignore that part as much as I can here, but a subsequent viewing found me unable to stick with this version past the ½-hour mark, as the ‘framing device’ is so incredibly wooden and clunky.
Be that as it may; on with the show!!
Tumblr media
COLOUR! WIDE SCREEN!! Questionable use of colour for lettering of credits!!!
We begin with a plate shot of Earth that looks a lot like the Universal International title card background did. While we slowly zoom in, we get… a Hamlet quote…? This seems a bit too much, but, okaaaaay…
Then we get a grainy UN building plate shot which we’ll see a couple of times, because this is also part of the ‘Americanization’ of the film. The UN has a News Service, and it’s telling us all about the various things happening in all the nations which are presumably united now. They beaming their broadcasts to us via the Universe Space Station in orbit around the planet. Shots of the USS are lifted from The Mysterians (1957), so we can also see alien flying saucers arriving at the station, but it’s never explained, so maybe this transfer is better than the film makers expected and we weren’t supposed to see them at all.
Hey, the Chilean reporter is Victor Millan, the young husband / boyfriend from A Touch of Evil!
There are earthquakes in Chile, plus melting ice floes in the Bearing Straight, so the world is having a rough time of it.
The last time we saw Godzilla, he was buried in an avalanche, so clearly that’s where the big lizard will emerge from here. A recent increase in water temperature in the Bering Straight causes a US submarine with some researchers to be sent to take a look, and they debate their course of action in a large control room on the sub, which comes complete with an “undersea periscope.” I doubt that is an Actual Thing.
Tumblr media
Buddy, you can call it any sort of exotic fruit from the Faroe Islands you feel like claiming it is, but it will still be a strawberry. — — — —
Meanwhile: King Kong is on Farou Island, where a berry is being grown which has non-addictive and narcotic properties that a Japanese pharmaceutical company wishes to incorporate into its product line (don’t ask, just accept it [we actually learned about this fruit during Mothra, but this is a different island near the Marshall Island H-Bomb testing range (I think)]). A team of Tokyo TeleVision people are sent to the island to get the berries plus the mighty Kong as a marketing stunt (ibid).
“Hokkaido” is not pronounced like that. At. All.
Repeatedly, the English dubbing has Japanese characters pronounce it as “hawk-eh-EYE-doh,” not only mangling the name but adding an extra syllable into the bargain. The Japanese UNTV reporter, played by James Yagi, pronounces it properly as “ho-KAI-doh.” You would think someone might think to themselves ‘hey, maybe the Asian guy’s pronunciation is the right one…?’
Tumblr media
The depiction of the natives of Faroe Island [above] are creations of racism. Not only are they in blackface, they carry African-style shields with similar markings, yet are South Sea Islanders located just off the Marshall Islands. Plus there is liberal use of feathers in headdresses which look remarkably similar to the people of the North American plains regions. Wow. There may have even been a bone through someone’s nose, I didn’t look that closely. Even allowing for early-60s comedy sensibilities, this is really bad; nearly “Andy Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s” territory. It’s important to view this as a stereotype of the time, as well as a depiction of a non-existent people (perhaps with the defence ‘so how could anyone be offended?’ well… uh…).
I’m stunned that Japanese trains not only do not have radios to receive a warning about Godzilla, they also lack a reverse gear to back away from him. Also, where did these buses to save all the rail passengers suddenly come from? If they were able to corral all of these motor coaches, couldn’t they have somehow got word to… never mind.
Must so many O-scale model trains be made to suffer?
I want many of these cars. Most of the suits, also.
There are massive leaps of ‘logic’ here that I’m positive make more sense in the original Japanese version. Then again, it may be like the material above and we should stop looking for that. This is the problem with the American sections: they keep trying to root the story in half-real science and logic, but that should be avoided with every effort! ‘When will the fools learn…‽’ etc.
Tumblr media
Kong looks more like an extremely badly made Sasquatch than King of the Apes. For one thing, his arms are (occasionally) much too long and the person inside clearly has their wrists at Kong’s elbows (but this detail oddly comes and goes). Also, he’s covered in some sort of steel wool or matted shag carpeting. His face is an awful excuse for any sort of simian form. It’s an embarrassment.
Tumblr media
Godzilla, on the other hand, is a happy, fun-filled dinosaur who is extra-mobile compared to his earlier appearances. He jumps up and down and claps his… paws? …claws? …hands? …front feet? He’s like a young child! Okay, a 300 foot tall child capable of throwing boulders bigger than houses, but he’s got that playful energy.
The model work is really uneven: the ships, trucks, earth movers, and so on look ‘good’ to ‘great,’ but the human figures look uniformly like little plastic objects which can only described as ‘human adjacent.’ It’s like you described human form to a blind and stupid person, and they carved a figure out of Jell-O using a spatula. On a warm day.
Why does the army try catching Godzilla in a pit and exploding dynamite around him when he survived an H-Bomb? They tried that with electricity-conductive nets in Mothra and he worked clear of them. Even with here adding an acid bath and burning gasoline, it seems…
Why does Godzilla now avoid encountering electrical lines when he basically conquered it before? Has he learned that it’s more hassle than it’s worth? Can Godzilla be considered this sentient?
Also, what’s that white guy doing in the Japanese army?
Sorry, I forgot that logic isn’t a part of these things… [:: heavy sigh ::]
When Kong grabs a girl and people shine lights at him, he does what he knows best: climbs to the top of the nearest building. In this case, it’s the Diet (Japan’s Parliament), and the top of the dome is about level with his shoulder, so it doesn’t really count as a huge visual statement or accomplishment. It would be like you standing on a chair: yes, you’re higher up, but it’s not exactly a K-2 level of accomplishment, is it?
Additionally, Godzilla actually destroyed that building in the first film, but they’ve had awhile to rebuild, I guess.
Where’d they get this awful quality of film showing people evacuating Tokyo (Chiba in the Japanese version) via the docks? Answer: Chikyû Bôeigun (1957), and there are a few other bits of footage that film supplies.
I swear the rocky area that’s supposed to be at the base of Mt Fujiyama was modelled on the big rock thing Star Trek TOS used all the time.
Am I supposed to be rooting for Kong? I’m rooting for Kong here. Godzilla just seems like a real dick, frankly.
Special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya deliberately gave King Kong a semi-comical personality, because he did not want Kong to frighten young children, and wanted the general audience to root for Kong over the more frightening Godzilla.
Ah. Good to know.
The film features the Davy Crockett, a portable missile-launched nuclear weapon developed by the United States. At the time, this weapon was still classified.
Who would have expected this film to be a source of military secrets?
Late on, we see Kong practicing gavage using a tree! It’s actually a call back to a bit in an early production still from King Kong (1933) showing him doing that to a Tyrannosaurus Rex.
Between Godzilla and King Kong, no historical monument will ever be left standing.
Thanks to the English dubbing laying it on with a shovel, dialogue provides a fair few repeated statements about ‘electricity makes Kong stronger’ near the end. Thank goodness they do, as I certainly didn’t remember that from a few scenes ago and missed it the first five times time here.
Godzilla disappears, presumed drowned…? Kong survives and we see him wading away from Japan, so the people of the Island Kingdom are safe once more!
The best thing about this version is it leaves one with a strong desire to see the original version.

One Who Went
Autobiography is a suspicious genre at best: generally speaking, the very last thing most people should be permitted to do is to tell their own stories. For one thing, people almost by definition tell their own stories from their personal vantage points, presenting as obvious truths details that others would see entirely differently. That must seem like an obvious truism, but it’s not that easy to keep in mind as you read along, enthralled by the story being told and forgetting to remember that every story, even the compelling one you are being told by the talented author of the book you are reading, has another side…and would sound entirely different if someone else were telling it, the author’s spouse, for example, or one of his or her parents, or one of the police officers the author is accusing of brutality. Nonetheless, it’s a popular genre. And one of the most popular of its sub-genres is constituted of exposés by escapees, by people who have escaped from…somewhere. From prison. From slavery. From a cult. From an oppressive home environment. From an abusive marriage. From a horrific boarding school. From somewhere!
Some of these books specifically chronicle their authors’ successful escape from the religious cults that earlier on had claimed their total allegiance, books like Jenna Miscavige Hill’s Beyond Belief or Carolyn Jessop’s Escape, both of which were New York Times bestsellers. And then there is a whole sub-category of Jewish authors who write about their “escape” from the hasidic (or super-frumm non-hasidic) communities in which they either were raised or ended up living.
There are a lot of these books, mostly by women. Leah Lax’s Uncovered: How I Left Hasidic Life and Finally Came Home, Hella Winston’s Unchosen: The Hidden Lives of Hasidic Rebels, Leah Vincent’s Cut Me Loose: Sin and Salvation After My Ultra-Orthodox Childhood, Judy Brown’s This Is Not a Love Story, Chaya Deitsch’s Here and There: Leaving Hasidism, Keeping My Family, and Deborah Feldman’s Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots are only some of the better-known examples, but there are others out there as well.  Some of you may have seen the only recently-made Yiddish-language movie I know of, Adam Vardy’s Mendy, which details its protagonist’s unexpectedly uninteresting journey from his insular community in Brooklyn to a community of hasidic escapees in Manhattan. The movie was irritating, actually—not well written, not well acted, and not particularly compelling. But at least it was a man’s story…which made it almost unique. (I suppose I will probably eventually read Shalom Auslander’s Foreskin’s Lament once I get past the vulgar title and the even more vulgar book jacket illustration. Or maybe not.)
And now I have just finished reading Shulem Deen’s memoir, All Who Go Do Not Return, the author’s account of his painful decision to leave the Skverer hasidic community in New Square, New York, and to re-invent himself more or less from top to bottom even though his decision ultimately cost him not only his marriage and his community, but any meaningful contact with his children as well. But rejection by his neighbors did not herald rejection by the reading public and the book was almost incredibly well received. It won a National Jewish Book Award in 2015. Far more improbably, it was named one of Star Magazine’s “Fab 5 Can’t-Miss Entertainment Picks.” And more improbably even than that (which is saying something), it was named one of the “forty-three books to read before you die” by the Independent, one of Britain’s leading online newspapers.
It is a painful read, and particularly for those of us who come to the topic with our own set of complicated biases and preconceptions.
Like many of my generation, I grew up imbued with a strangely idealized conception of the hasidic world, one developed without the benefit of having ever met an actual hasidic person or visited a hasidic community or synagogue. They were everywhere in my childhood, those people. The walls of one of best friend’s parents’ apartments featured a series of decorative plates, each emblazoned with the image of a sole hasid dancing in apparently ecstatic prayer. My own mother once needle-pointed a pillow cover featuring in silhouette some hasidic men holding open books. In the same vein but even more popular were pictures on black velvet, not of dogs playing poker, but of hasidim engaging in some sort of raucous discussion, presumably about some holy matter, and gesticulating dramatically with their hands.  During my two summers at the UAHC Eisner Summer Camp in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the words “hasidic prayer service” were used to denote a service without real (or any) liturgy—one more akin (I only realized years later how funny this was) to a Quaker meeting than anything a real hasid would recognize—in which people were asked to sit quietly in each other’s contemplative company until someone thought of something to say, something like the Shema or a line from a popular song. And, of course, there were the two volumes of Martin Buber’s hasidic tales that served as the basis for a thousand divrei torah at camp and back home in Junior Congregation as well.
Even my own parents fell under the spell occasionally, speaking reverentially of hasidim as the ones who would keep the embers glowing even after the rest of us lost interest and moved on.  But, even despite all of this worshipfulness, I don’t recall it ever striking me how odd it was that I hadn’t ever met an actual hasid despite the fact that the great hasidic communities of Brooklyn weren’t more than a thirty-minute drive from Forest Hills and could be visited easily. Nor do I recall it dawning on me that the people on the plates and pillows were depictions of actual human beings who, had anyone wished, could presumably have been easily located, encountered and enjoyed in person.  And so things remained until I actually did meet my first hasid, a fellow my age named Summy (short for Isumar) who occasionally davened at the same quasi-hasidic shtibl in Forest Hills in which I occasionally attended services during my JTS years when I was back home with my parents for Shabbat. (Why I chose to attend services there when I would have been far more warmly welcomed elsewhere is a different issue, one I’ll write about on some other occasion. The other worshipers, at any rate, weren’t hasidim at all—just the rabbi and his innumerable sons were, plus Cousin Summy who occasionally escaped—his word, not mine—from Brooklyn to have what he called “shabbos in the country.” That he thought of Forest Hills as “the country” should have been my first clue that our worldviews were not going to mesh easily. And yet we were, in some sense, friends: two young men who got along and liked each other…and each of whom was familiar with a part of the world regarding which the other was very curious.)
From Summy, I got a clear sense of the “other” side of the story…and it was not at all a pretty picture. Even after all these years, I hesitate to repeat much of what he told me on our Shabbos-afternoon walks. As I think back, I don’t recall it ever striking me to wonder if he was being fully honest with me. (Were there really Manhattan brothels that catered to hasidic young men eager to test things out before marriage? I certainly believed him then, but now I find myself less certain.) Still, that relationship provided me with my first inkling that hasidim were real people who existed in the real world. Since then, of course, I’ve met other hasidic types, some impressively learned and others childish and naïve. But none has ever made the impression on me that Summy did when I was in my early twenties and still trying, albeit not yet too successfully, to figure out the Jewish world and my place in it.
So that is the baggage I personally brought to Shulem Deen’s book. In some ways, his is an unusual story. Born to baal-teshuvah parents in Boro Park, he hardly came from a hasidic family at all…yet he was drawn to the hasidic life to which he was exposed in New Square and, after some dithering, he bought into it more or less holus-bolus. He married as a young man in the typical hasidic style, then went on to have five children in rapid succession. On the outside, he was a “regular” hasid, wearing the whole get-up, sporting sidelocks that if uncurled would have hung down as far as his waist (a point he makes in passing but which stays with me for some reason), expressing public disdain for even the slightly glimmer of modernity that somehow managed to pierce the community’s almost impermeable boundaries. But on the inside, the author was a work very much still in progress. Reading how he first became aware of the fact that anyone, even a hasid, may borrow books from a public library, and how he acquired a radio, then a television (which he kept hidden in a cupboard and only dared watch when his children were fast asleep), and then a computer, his story reads more like a traditional Bildungsroman than a prison escapee’s journal.
The depiction of hasidic life in the book is as unappealing as it is slightly charming. The community really does stick together. And its members are depicted positively as men and women of deep and unquestioning faith. To say that they take their observance seriously is to say almost nothing: these are people who have chosen to subjugate every aspect of their lives to the kind of punctilious religious observance that is the hallmark of traditional hasidic life. And yet…for all they are as strict as strict could be (and the Skverer hasidim are among the strictest in terms of their observance and their standards), they are depicted in the book as harsh and judgmental, as petty and meanspirited, and as capable of remarkably cruelty towards each other. In one of the book’s most shocking passages, the author openly admits to having participated personally in a criminal effort to defraud New York State out of serious sums of money by producing false reports regarding the standards that prevail in one of the community’s yeshivahs. All in all, and even despite the occasional rays of light that shine though, Deen’s is not an attractive portrait of hasidic life and, in the end, no reader will find it even slightly surprising that the author wanted out.
But reading from my personal perch, what struck me was how Deen, for all he was ready to abandon his community and his family, and fully to reject the hasidic lifestyle, was unable to shed his community’s fundamentalist worldview. In other words, his escape was from black to white, from the strictest level of observance possible to absolutely nothing at all: this man whose payos once hung down to his waist is depicted by the end of the book as blithely living outside even the most elemental norms of Jewish life and as having no level of discernible Jewish observance in his life at all. The possibility of living a rich, meaningful, satisfying Jewish life characterized by both intellectual and spiritual integrity seems not to have dawned on the author: he left everything and moved on to nothing without, it seems, even considering that his problem might be with the know-nothing fundamentalism that characterizes hasidism at its least appealing, not with the foundational stuff of Judaism itself upon which every Jewish community from the most to the least liberal rests…including many into which the author could easily fit.
It’s a good book and worth your time to read. It’s troubling and not a little sad. But it’s also provocative and very interesting. I resisted reading it when it first came out in 2015 for some reason, but a Shelter Rocker recommended it to me the other week and I decided to give it a chance after all. I’m glad that I did!

Are E-Sports Definitely Sports?
Are E-Sports Definitely Sports?
Very competitive pc gaming has been actually around a number of years on the Personal Computer along with specialist Starcraft games or tournaments for activities like Quake and also Counter-Strike. The Xbox 360 has helped make competitive pc gaming so much more well-known in the last few years with the pro-gaming console organization Major League Gaming, or MLG for brief, as well as has begun to be actually classified as a sporting activity through lots of gamers. Also sports information protection, such as ESPN, have approved this new craze gotten in touch with E-Sports (electronic sporting activities) and right now covers MLG activities on their website and also even often mentions it on Sportscenter. But is this focus validated? Are E-Sports definitely sports? The response is no and right here are actually main reason whies this is thus. How To Get Into Esports
Absence of vast natural skill-set space
I believed I will begin using this reason to ensure that any players who think this is the single reason for this post can be settled quickly. I am actually not saying that I might trump a Halo 3 player like Tsquared. He is better than me. An absence of intrinsic ability space indicates that, with dedication, almost any kind of player may come to be a pro at the video game they wish to complete in. This is actually not true for everyone and listed here is actually an example. When I utilized to play SOCOM II, a buddy of mine possessed over 2,000 hrs logged onto the activity online. I had lower than fifty hours, but I was actually by far a far better gamer than him. I presume that despite just how much he participated in, I would certainly have regularly been actually far better. But, alternatively, there are actually many gamers including on my own that are only naturally efficient video recording games. I have a 2.5 K/D proportion on Halo 3, but I hardly conform and carry out certainly not take it truly. I do not also like it. I sense, however, that if I played 8 hours a time or even more with the intent to take it quite truly, I might perhaps compete at the MLG amount. I possess an experiencing a large number of the players on Halo 3 that are actually dedicated to it, might contend at the MLG amount Esports Events.
This is actually certainly not therefore along with sporting activities like hockey, baseball, baseball, also golf or ping pong. I utilized to participate in hockey as a kid yet regardless of the amount of I played, there is a 99.999% odds I would certainly never ever create it right into the NHL. I presume the very same can be stated for thousands, maybe also countless athletes in primary sports. Yet not gaming. You have an extremely really good chance of managing to compete in the business of gaming just through training as well as staying committed to it.
Probably I could never ever beat TSquared but given that video gaming performs not entail physicality, the difference between us would certainly be simply commitment. He is actually a lot more specialized than I am, and also has actually been actually for an incredibly long opportunity. The specialist video gaming participates in computer game as his life. I selected a different progress pathway. Only like I definitely would not be actually as great a forensic private investigator as somebody that has 20 years experience, I would not be actually as excellent a player as TSquared if I contended versus him today.
 There is no looking combine
In many significant sporting activities leagues like the NBA, NHL, NFL, as well as MLB, there are minors or college amount play. This is actually how players create it approximately the majors, they play through university and afterwards acquire made to a team or play in the smalls, confirm themselves, and are actually phoned. In E-Sports, there is actually no smalls. You do not must show your own self to compete, you just spend to enter an occasion. I can't inform you the amount of opportunities I have actually seen a sports video game on TELEVISION to listen to a commentator claim something along free throw lines of 'You're in the Majors, you ought to be capable to create that play' or one thing identical. There is actually no stature being actually an MLG gamer, it's useless. Anyone can turn into one at anytime. Now, you may receive poorly defeated if you're no great, yet it's since you're competing at a degree you shouldn't be. There's a cause when big league gamers in MLB are sent out to the minors on a rehab assignment or even one thing that they dominate or that a gamer who could control at three-way An or even the AHL for hockey may trap the NHL or even MLB, it is actually an entirely different degree of play Esports Events.
E-Sports do not have degrees of play enjoy this (certain there's the CAL and CPL yet it doesn't operate similarly). Either you are actually completing or you're not. I believe to be considered a sport, MLG needs to correct this by combining a minors where players are cultivated coming from to competing in the majors. This would be the only technique to get involved in the majors is to become invited, not merely join and paying out a fee.
An absence of unity or company
There are a bunch of gaming games out there certainly. There's the MLG, CAL, CPL, GGL, Gamebattles (really a division of MLG), Starleagues, and also numerous others, some additional reputable or prominent than others. Sure there are different sporting activities organizations, however I don't assume anyone is going to state that in America there is actually a volleyball organization much more reputable or even prominent than the NFL or even a hockey organization much more legitimate and well-liked than the NHL. Why does not gaming possess one legit league? Why is it therefore ragged? If it was a true sporting activity, it must have an uniformity of association. As an alternative, leagues are simply confidentially possessed as well as operated which triggers many various ones. Are gamers in MLG far better than a gamer in CPL? That knows, they are different games along with different video games. I can with certainty say gamers in the NHL are much better than gamers in a European League.
This delivers me to one more factor, the institution of E-Sports is actually nothing at all like a sporting activity. There is no routine period, there are just celebrations as well as step ladders. Even the games that make believe to possess periods are actually simply managing ladders for a certain time-frame and also call it a period. Ladders don't function like times since you can sign up with or leave behind a ladder at any type of opportunity. If you go 0-5 on Gamebattles, delete your crew and also reprise it and you erase your negative begin. Staffs do not possess the same amount of activities participated in. You can easily challenge various other crews at your desire so you never ever need to play a group that you recognize can beat you unless you reach the Playoffs. True sporting activities may not be like this. There aren't only a handful of tournament-style celebrations throughout the time Esports Events.
 Making it much more sports-like
In general, E-Sports organizations seem to become using to make video gaming look a sporting activity without really creating it in to one. Like the enhancement of instructors in MLG activities like Gears of War and also Halo. That appears like a completely absurd enhancement to professional video gaming and one that doesn't also make it a lot more like a sporting activity. Why carries out a player need a trainer?
To produce video gaming in to a sport, they ought to help make business changes. Allow's proceed to utilize MLG as an instance. A Halo 3 team in MLG need to possess to be financed by an organization or individual. A supporter does not just spend for trips to Meadowlands as well as give you awesome pc gaming gears. That individual needs to possess the staff and also they create the roster changes. If Ogre 1 and also Ogre 2 don't such as Walshy any longer, too poor. They don't possess a say, the enroller carries out. Groups shouldn't be merely a team of buddies that met eventually and also have participated in together ever before because. They must be actually sound foundations that are going to exist years coming from now, along with our without it is actually present gamer lineup.
They need to implement a routine period. Rather of heading to a handful of competition contests or competing in some on the web step ladder, the teams involved in the season are actually evaluated the beginning of the season. Say goodbye to can staffs join or leave behind as soon as the time is underway. Thus, timetables are specified for every team. If you are scheduled to participate in a group, you head to that location and play them. Genuine sporting activities staffs and players take a trip a lot. It seems gamers rest at property training for the next event. You teach in the course of the off-season in a sport, and play during the time. Why will reasonable play be actually secured online when you have network concerns, prospective unfaithful, and lag? It doesn't produce sense. Therefore there is actually no factor they should not be actually journeying around the nation to play their following set up opponent.
Each staff will possess the same amount of games played. After the time mores than, playoffs would certainly be actually seeded and also played in the tournament-style occasions like Meadowlands. That need to be actually exactly how playoffs are carried out. Today it seems they have no relevance whatsoever apart from succeeding you amount of money and also providing you aspects Esports Events.
There need to likewise be a looking integrate. You can not just up and also join an MLG competitors one day. You will have to become part of a distinct organization and also complete there certainly till you are welcomed through a crew owner to sign up with an MLG group. That would provide authenticity to the game and additionally possibly extract a great deal of wish to-be's as well as posers since they aren't going to would like to contend and also take a trip a whole lot.
 eSports: What Exactly Is It?
Naturally, the majority of video games that are actually associated with these competitors involve a multiplier factor as the whole aspect of eSports is actually to connect with various other gamers. There are actually numerous choices right now accessible that gamers may play in various competitions and competitions. The key is to conform kind that you enjoy very most or even are well at.
Nearly all game styles are satisfied in eSports as well as our experts located that one of the most popular types were actually first person shooting (FPS), sporting activity and MMORPGs. Our company expect far more to be actually included in this checklist in the near future.
Currently, eSports are actually mostly consumed as well as taken pleasure in through guys with 85% of guys composing engagement of events. Business leaders are actually definitely trying to encourage female involvement and also we think our experts will see some development on this as our company advance in to 2017. Furthermore, the eSports market produced ₤ 258 million in 2015 and our experts anticipate this to become around ₤ 391 for 2016 which is fairly crazy!
 Where Can I View eSports?
All of it audios fairly thrilling, does not it? The market is predicted to proceed its own rapid development in 2017 and involvement goes to an all-time higher as a result of to the media platforms offered. You may see eSports on many different systems and also sites. Jerk as well as YouTube are one of the most noticeable ones with ESPN as well as Yahoo likewise having their own specialized eSports areas. Added sites that you may not have become aware of correspond to Twitch and also supply some great web content. These are Azubu and also MLG so inspect all of them out for some premium eSports streams.
Such is actually the growth of eSports that standard sporting activities websites (our team make use of ESPN above as an example) are beginning to serve their content to eSports followers. This is actually quite amazing and also definitely stresses to us exactly how very seriously sporting activities journalists are actually taking the eSports industry.
 The Success of LoL
So where carried out LoL come from?! Its smash hit the eSports world like a tsunami on Indonesia. I directly have actually played it on and off considering that beta as well as have watched it bloom into this lovely mature reasonable moba. It has been no easy pathway for Riot. There has been actually many mistakes reached that Riot have actually seemed to be to not merely hop over, but capitalise on and widen. Exactly how did they do it? Whats helped in LoL's growth?
The very early problem for Riot was actually verse HoN. This rivalry I assume has stressed only exactly how efficient the free of charge to participate in idea can easily be. Yet free of charge to participate in is not a brand-new idea and also its own important to keep in mind just how effectively Riot balanced it along with spent information. The possible web content as well as paid out content is so finely tuned that it sways good enough over informal gamers to maintain them going as well as preferring additional while committed gamers basically pay out by means of the nostrils to get every little thing they presume they need to play their greatest.
The other aspect of the HoN competition is actually that Riot marketed their activity specifically to become as accepting of all kinds of gamers as feasible, particularly the lay noob. You may observe the concept behind HoN was actually to possess an excessive very competitive emphasis, possibly in the ilk of how sc2 was released. It also ultimately brought in a variety of dota players.
At the same time Riot was actually noob pleasant, area concentrated and had their 'summoners code.' The the real world effects of the, imo, is quite unsubstantial. Folks still act like pricks as well as the areas attitudes etc are actually fairly identical. However people approve it, they think that their game has a various mindset in spite of whether they practice what they preach. Its own identical to hipster national politics that profess "conserve the globe guy" while electing republican politician.
Trouble determined to OWN their competitions. Probably the premier LoL tournament is what LoL itself owns/promotes/runs ingame. Now this is actually probably one thing never ever seen before in some other video game. Most activity programmers to time release a video game then allowed the neighborhood kept up it. Blizzard are one of minority developers in record that ever assist a game after release.
Good fortune is a vital aspect at the same time below, in a variety of regions. The very first is streaming went major around this time. sc2 visited and also got traits breaking on justin.tv > twitch as well as own3d. LoL promptly took this up and Riot kept up it. Situations were actually excellent for Riot to capitalise on reaching their target market in a whole brand-new method.
An additional factor is just how fracking aweasomley Riot acquired cultivating game caster skill. Was this an in-house choice? Given that it has compensated out handsomely for all of them. LoL on its own is actually a technical/descriptive/ backward and forward casters wet aspiration. To in other words, its an entertainers cash cow. Its like the cricket of eSports.
The second item of luck has been South Korea as well as the shift from sc1 to sc2. It couldn't have actually been actually timed better for Riot as well as I would certainly be actually amazed to recognize even more about the amount of Riot made an effort to promote LoL in Asia. sc2 emerged and also the whole of South Korea were actually adhered in this starcraft hangover rut, it resembled a giant economic climate folding large. sc2 only would not take off and Koreans went looking for a new activity. That new game was actually LoL.
Therefore right here our company are, LoL and also romp are at the cutting edge of competitive video gaming, on the precipice of a company brand-new time. They wrecked HoN, have burst out of the effective activity area and also are actually now right into the eSports transforming zone. Merely one problem stands just before all of them and its own dota2.
I'm attracted as well as excited to see just how they manage this difficulty. The video game motor is the following battlefield I assume. At the moment LoL has an excellent equilibrium in between being actually incredibly playable on all computer systems, yet demanding enough to create people acquire much better hardware to manage it. So it attracts the proper degree of supporters to events.

Phil Foden’s flying: Man City starlet on playing for Pep Guardiola
When Manchester City won the Premier League last season, Captain Vincent Kompany called up Phil Foden and told him to come to the pub.
It turned out to be a big night in Hale, but while Kompany and John Stones sang and danced with supporters, Foden was sitting in the dark by a lake in Stoke on Trent.
"I went fishing night with my dad instead," Foden tells Sportsmail this week. I just felt too young to party. I was 17. So I thought it was the most sensible thing to do and Vinny actually said it was the right call.
Phil Foden is in line for another league winners' medal if Manchester City beat Brighton
The 18-year- old has made 13 Premier League appearances under Pep Guardiola this year
It was night fishing. So we were there until the morning.
'Funnily enough we didn't talk much about the football, we just chatted about normal dad and son stuff. He is a United fan. He is finding it difficult this year… '
Win at Brighton on Sunday and Pep Guardiola's City will be champions again and Foden is in line for another medal. He was given one last year after making five appearances.
This season the number has jumped to 13 and resembles the steady progress promised him by his manager when he spoke to Foden last summer.
On Monday, Foden started against Leicester but was actually sitting on the bench when Kompany struck the remarkable long-range goal that cool City victory. Turns out it was perhaps not the fluke everybody presumed.
"It's funny because we've recently had a bit of shooting at the end of training and Vinny has suddenly decided to join in," Foden smiles.
It resembles the steady progress promised him by his manager when he spoke to Foden
When City won the Premier League title last year Foden went fishing with his dad
"He has got a bit, to be fair." He can hit "top bins" a few times so maybe that practice came in to play. It was made for him to score wasn't it? He's always there in the big moments showing his class.
'I saw the ball hit the top of the net. I was like, "Wow, did I just dream that?"
"It was such a special goal and the most important of the year."
Twenty-four hours later Foden was at Phil and Clare, girlfriend Rebecca Cooke and their baby son Ronnie, who was born in January, watching rivals Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 in the Champions League.
In a rather modern manner, Phil Snr and Jnr sat side by side in the kitchen watching on their mobile phones. "It was brilliant what they did," says the City midfielder. "It got me out of my seat as a fan.
" To do what they did without two key players just shows their heart and determination and shows how well we have done to be above a team as good as that . Our squad is obviously very special.
'We could have had them at Anfield and it would have been a different story now.
'There may have been some breathing space! But we know we can go to Brighton on Sunday and put in a job. We can beat anybody on our day. "
Foden has been kept largely hidden from the media during his emergence from City's system
It's a law and miserable Manchester afternoon and the player many have labeled as the future of English football is in a glorified warehouse near the M60 doing energetic keep-ups with some friends and a chap about to interview him for television.
Foden, dressed in a tracksuit and here on a day off, is smart and angular. He is good, but he is not flash and it seems deliberate. Unless you were watching really closely it wouldn't immediately be apparent who was the one with all the talent.
Still only 18, Foden has been kept largely hidden from the media during his emergence from the City system. Aware of the persistent narrative about his number of playing minutes at a time when other young English players are considering moves abroad, Guardiola has not wanted him vulnerable to all the fuss.
Now that he is a regular in City's Premier League squad, we are gradually being allowed to see a little more of him. This is his first clean chat with a national newspaper and has been arranged as part of the launch of the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series on the Nicktoons TV channel.
Advised in advance that Foden is a 'bit shy', it transpires isn't it. He is reserved, which is different. Wandering around Manchester, he is still surprised when people ask him for a photograph and admits he is working on his mental image of himself.
Foden is still surprised when people ask him for a photograph as he wanders around the city
Foden pictured alongside Guardiola and his baby son Ronnie, who was born in January
"I wake up every morning and think my career is just going so fast," he says, cradling am ug or tea. 'I am still young and trying to act normally but I think I need to start growing up.
"I go and play with David (Silva) and Kevin (De Bruyne) every day but still feel like a fan if you know what I mean?
" I feel like asking them to sign something for me but actually playing with them.
'I don't mean I don't want to stay normal because I do. But sometimes I get up in the morning and just think, "Wow."
On the pitch, the necessary mental shift has already taken place. After his two goals helped City win at Newport in the FA Cup, players from the Welsh club told him they had rarely observed such precocious talent.
"They wished me luck with my career," he reveals. "They were a great bunch of lads and it made me feel good."
Physically he has some growing to do. The Premier League is a place for athletes and Foden has not yet developed the power that will come with age. But he was always small and, because of his talent, was always asked to play with older boys. So he is used to the challenge.
"Sometimes I feel leggy and off balance and I know it's a growth spurt that's underway," he says. 'My legs are long and my body needs to catch up. It will happen in time.
'I look at some players and wish I was a bit stronger to look after myself but there is now I can do from a bit of gym and look after my body right.
'I was very underdeveloped and small when I was young but they used to tell me I had the technical ability to play up.
The teenager celebrates after scoring an early winner against Tottenham last month
Foden doesn't drive yet and takes a taxi to City's training ground every day
'They said I had the brain of an older person so they would challenge me by playing me up against lads much bigger than me.
'To this day I feel like I am still doing it and I think those experiences got me ready.
' I used to get kicked a lot and still do. You can't complain. You just have to get up and get on with it. And I am not the only one. Bernardo [Silva] is tiny but he has a brain and that is the main thing.
'Still quiet to win the ball off other people. You don't need to be massive. You just need to know what you are doing on the pitch. "
Those who know Foden well will tell you about the influence of his parents and it is apparent. Foden has manners and remains boyish. He doesn't drive and takes a taxi to and from training every day.
Some young footballers seem too good for their careers to move fast while others can seem daunted by quick progress. It is a fine line and Foden seems to be on the right side of it.
"Life has definitely changed but I still like to play football," he explains. "I will go to the Trafford Center and people will ask for a picture and I will be like," Oh yeah, this is who I am now ". I don't always realize.
"I hope they now know what it's possible to achieve in the game.
" Some kids don't think it's possible because or the team we have at City but anything is possible and you have to believe and work hard. If I can do it then anyone can. '
Foden (right) scored twice as England won the Under 17 World Cup final in India in 2017
After Foden scored twice as England won the Under 17 World Cup final in India in 2017, his father cried on the phone. "He doesn't normally show emotion as he is quite a serious guy," recalls Foden.
"But he cried that day. He said: "I can't believe what you have done". I didn't really get that until I came home. "
For the Foden family, it was a major staging post on a journey that ground when City academy scout Terry John spotted six-year-old Phil at his primary school in Stockport.
'I remember it like it was yesterday, "Foden says. "He was looking at year seven kids and I was year four or five.
" Luckily my teacher said he had seen me in the playground and I seemed all right.
"So they asked me to do this little session on my own, dribbling round cones. I was thinking, "What's this?" but thought I would try my best.
'I was a bit young to really realize what it meant and who he was. He just gave me a number for my parents to call him and I am smooth they did. "
Foden's formative City spent years in the pre-Abu Dhabi era when training for kids took place at the old Platt Lane site adjacent to Manchester's 'curry mile'.
Foden admits he still feels like asking for team mate Kevin De Bruyne's autograph
A facility shared with the public, nevertheless produced players such as Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge.
Foden idolized them simply because they were exactly what he aspired to be: young, English and successful.
'You see the under 8s training on perfect grass pitches at our place now and you think how amazing it would have been when to have that child or facility when I was that age, 'he laughs.
'We were old-fashioned AstroTurf that left you with loads of grazes. But it's great to see the training ground we have now. It shows where we are going. "
City would appear to be heading towards another league title, maybe even a domestic treble. Foden, meanwhile, has the talent to go wherever he wishes.
"There is always talk about me not playing enough but I don't listen," he says.
"I am only 18 but people are trying to judge me now.
"Pep believes in me and I know he will give me the opportunities.
" What he said to me last summer has actually come true. Every year I have played a bit more. "
If catastrophe is avoided at Brighton on Sunday, the chances are there will be another big party but no guarantee the youngest member of the City squad will attend.
Ronnie, hey, doesn't drink and is just as likely to head home to see. Either that or the fishing rods will be out again.
He reckons his dad is' part-Blue 'now and his mum has always been leg of that persuasion.
' There will always be pressure on you if you are a young player in a team like ours, "he says, when asked if his home life shields him from some of the glare.
" When you play you have to play well and show people what you can do. I try not to feel it. It's been a good season for me and for the team.
'It's a successful season if we get two or three trophies.
"Obviously we would have liked to go further in the Champions League and it was a little unlucky how we got out.
" But I think we have done brilliantly on the whole. If we win the league I will be so proud. "
Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is on Nicktoons and Milkshake! and the latest toys are available at all major retailers.

Over the final few years I have actually ended up being a significant supporter from concealed item games, also finding on my own a frequent consumer at the Big wheel Games internet site. Various plan strategies can aid, both to lower consumption and also to increase the reveal of renewables in the electricity mix. While I definitely would not expect the very same degree of investing from Silicon Valley in energy as happened in the course of the cleantech years, this's guaranteeing to see a few of these strong beginning companies bring in a few of these riskier wagers. For instance my partner possesses a brand new imac with a 250 SSD footwear ride as well as a 2 TB 2nd inner travel as well as I desire to support both to opportunity maker. There are a many thousand various other areas I would certainly have Apple invest it is actually time just before I pushed for a TimeMachine update. I am actually still on a regular basis getting back to a Brand new Video game+ playthrough from Person 4 Golden, and I remain in the center from my third opportunity via The Witcher 3. I have a continuous activity from Half-Life 2 that does not a great deal conclusion as this carries out endlessly repetitive as well as freshen. The R-1 is actually lightweight as well as comfortable and although its own cable television is actually microphonic, this is actually a pretty resistant affair which will definitely lose. With the help of the iLife collection, lots of thousands of images and also hours of videos that I've shot are held and also arranged.
Tumblr media
This simply power performs something: This analyzes OS X's device logs to find simply the relevant information relating to your Time Maker back-ups; layouts that info for simpler analysis; as well as offers the data to you in a browsable user interface. Nike+ Relocate was actually highlighted on phase along with the apple iphone SIX. It combines the relevant information from the M7 along with a curious and exciting way to feature health and fitness information, while additionally attempting to be inspirational. If our company are actually to take possession of the ability of power effectiveness, I feel cooperation is completely important.

I think I knew this during Call from Task: Dark Ops 3 however failed to would like to admit it. I didn't end up the initiative and also hardly contacted the multiplayer. So much to make sure that I've had that on at least nine various devices over the years, from the previously mentioned Apple to very most just recently holding around the boosted version with me on my iPad so I may play this at any time. Simply do not overdo it and use up all your power excavating via these spots, due to the fact that they abound. What's needed is actually one thing a little a lot more ... intrusive-- as well as by time our company hit the 2100s our experts'll possess discovered a technique to make a virtual truth adventure that is actually same off the actual factor. Apple really did not wish to acquire energy storing specialist for the photo voltaic websites, as that would bump up the price from tidy power notably. I presume this is actually a great factor of Apple to do. Apple have utilized their Believe Various" branding/campaign of Rosa Parks in the past, when she lived, and now that she is actually gone this's perfect to provide her one more memorial. Again, I assume this was actually a wonderful contact as that makes viewing reports a handful of measures easier. I am regularly chasing her attention just like I am always chasing her to the following bannered objective, by means of the spots where our company never ever handle to spend time. The solution can be an affordable, mobile, a lot more flexible way to solve the power storage space problem making use of currently accessible basic parts and equipment. I possess a bootable CCC backup too; yet fortunately have never actually required it. The only HD failing I have had given that the release of Time Maker was rescued through TM. The initial one I am actually focusing on is a method which puts you in the center from the chart along with one target, do not perish. You could develop every week opportunity finances as well as review your task history with a touch from a button. The power savings would protect against greater than 4 million tons of garden greenhouse gasoline emission, comparable to the ordinary emissions from 700,000 cars and trucks, the organization stated. And although it is actually at times possible to make use of MobileMe's Back to My Macintosh attribute to access a Time Pill on a remote system, Opportunity Equipment's high data transfer demands create such a plan challenging for most users. You are actually additionally entrusted a distinctive lack from motivation to invest the video game's significant freemium unit, as that's a great deal tougher to persuade the typical player to spend amount of money for a character that they don't know. Probably this is actually simply my history and I am actually responsible from projection, but when I hear challenging convention, I do not assume non-traditional, non-nuclear households, I think hostility toward non-traditional, non-nuclear families. Given that Tesla pointed out the factory will be web energy absolutely no," the company might end up getting renewable resource debts (RECs) to cover any clean electrical power that it can not buy or produce on its own. There are actually so many very easy means to use less power that Americans do not do that there is actually still a large amount from efficiency financial savings to be had in this country. Equally as you ought to hesitate just before printing everything, look at whether you truly should burn records to a disk-- and possibly use multiple-use electronic media instead. The center part of the display could be changed in between an opportunity scenery as well as a profits view, along with the present day consistently being the final to become presented to the much ideal. They are time-consuming as well as expensive to deploy, and also an obstacle to take care of, particularly in atmospheres that transform regularly. For these cord cutters, an advertisement such as this might in fact be a brilliant factor: Instead of making them feel like they are actually registering for an expensive TV package, Time Warner Cable television is actually placing the focus squarely on Netflix, a company Internet-only customers most likely already delight in.
