I made a mess and she is repotted!
I know Hoyas like being root bound. But it’s been 5 years and she was in super cheap soil with no drainage. I also wrapped one of her training vines back up around to the hoop (in case anyone wonders what happened to the length).
This is my 5yr old Hoya Carnosa and today she is getting a repot!

Philodendron Birkin: A Mesmerizing Beauty Among Houseplants
In recent years, houseplants have experienced a renaissance in interior design and home decor. From lush tropical beauties to charming succulents, plant enthusiasts have explored a wide variety of flora to bring life and vibrancy into their living spaces. One plant that has captured the hearts of many plant lovers and enthusiasts is the Philodendron Birkin.
Introduction to the Philodendron Birkin
The Philodendron Birkin is a stunning cultivar of the Philodendron family, renowned for its striking foliage and elegant appearance. With its captivating green and white-striped leaves, the Birkin stands out as an eye-catching centerpiece, effortlessly elevating any indoor setting. This tropical plant is native to the rainforests of South and Central America, where it thrives under the canopy of larger trees.
Aesthetic Appeal: The Beauty of Philodendron Birkin
The most striking feature of the Philodendron Birkin is undoubtedly its leaves. Each leaf boasts a mesmerizing combination of deep green hues and creamy white pinstripes, resembling an artist's brush strokes across the foliage. The variegation is truly a sight to behold, and no two leaves are exactly the same, adding an element of uniqueness to every Birkin plant.
The Birkin's leaves start off with a more compact appearance, but as the plant matures, the foliage develops into broader and more dramatic shapes, creating a visually appealing contrast. Its compact growth habit makes it a perfect choice for smaller spaces or as part of a collection of houseplants.
Caring for Philodendron Birkin
One of the reasons for the Philodendron Birkin's popularity is its relatively easy care requirements. While it appreciates a bit of attention, it is generally forgiving, making it suitable for both experienced and novice plant parents.
Light: Philodendron Birkin prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can scorch the delicate leaves.
Watering: Allow the top inch or two of the soil to dry out before watering the plant again. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's essential to strike the right balance. Consider using a well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogged roots.
Humidity: As a tropical plant, the Philodendron Birkin enjoys higher humidity levels. Regular misting or placing a humidifier nearby can help create a favorable environment.
Temperature: The Birkin thrives in temperatures ranging from 65°F to 85°F (18°C to 29°C). Protect it from cold drafts and sudden temperature fluctuations.
Fertilizing: During the growing season (spring and summer), you can feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer every two to four weeks. In winter, when growth slows down, reduce or suspend fertilization.
Propagation: Sharing the Beauty
If you want to share the beauty of your Philodendron Birkin or expand your collection, propagation is a simple and rewarding process. You can propagate your Birkin through stem cuttings, making sure each cutting has at least one node. Place the cutting in water or a moist growing medium until it develops roots, then transfer it to a pot with well-draining soil.
Benefits Beyond Aesthetics
Beyond its visual appeal, the Philodendron Birkin also offers benefits to its surroundings. Like other houseplants, it helps purify the air by removing harmful toxins and impurities, promoting a healthier indoor environment. Additionally, having plants around has been linked to reduced stress, improved mood, and increased productivity, making the Philodendron Birkin an excellent companion for your living or working space.
A Word of Caution
While the Philodendron Birkin is a beautiful addition to any home, it's essential to keep it away from pets and small children. Like many plants in the Philodendron family, it contains calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation or discomfort if ingested.
In Conclusion
The Philodendron Birkin is more than just a houseplant; it's a conversation starter, a work of art, and a delightful companion that brings joy and tranquility to any indoor space. Its striking appearance, easy care requirements, and air-purifying abilities make it a perfect choice for both seasoned plant enthusiasts and those just beginning to explore the world of indoor gardening. So, whether you're a seasoned green thumb or a first-time plant parent, consider inviting the beauty of the Philodendron Birkin into your home and witness the magic it brings to your surroundings.

How to Care for Parlor Palm?
The easiest tropical plant you can keep at home is Parlor Palm (Chamaedorea Elegans). While many tropical plants do not like the indoor environment, Parlor Palm can easily stay fresh indoors and does not require much care. From Victorian times to the present day, Parlor Palm has been a popular home-grown plant. These palms have even made their way to work offices, schools and shopping malls.
It is very easy to understand why this plant is so popular. It is beautiful, evergreen and thick, and it also usually form bamboo-like ridges along the trunk as they age. In fact, if you are looking for a plant that looks like bamboo, Parlor Palm is the right choice, and if you want to experience a tropical paradise indoors and need a plant that does not take much time, then it is better to go to Parlor Palm.
If you meet the minimum needs of this plant, you will see that Chamaedorea Elegans is not a strict plant at all, and even the most novice gardeners can cope with it.
If Chamaedorea Elegans flower is planted outside the house, it can grow more than two meters and when it is indoors, it can grow up to one meter. The growth rate of this plant is low, so you should not worry about continuous repot. If you want to grow this plant outdoors, you should note that Parlor Palm does not like cold and frost at all.
Essential Tips to Care for Parlor Palm
The best methods of how to care for Parlor Palm include as follows:
What light is best for Parlor Palm?
One of the best features of Parlor Palm is that it can stay fresh in low light or artificial light. A feature that most houseplants do not have. In any case, the best light condition for the better growth of this plant is to place it in a bright environment where light reaches it indirectly.
If Parlor Palm is to be by the window, it is better to have the west or east windows that reach the evening or morning sun. Of course, the northern windows are also suitable for this plant. When you see that the branches of the plant are too big and have small waves, it is a sign that the location of the plant is dark.
If you want to move the plant outside for a while, it is better in the hot season, you just have to be careful not to place it where direct light reaches it because it will burn the leaves. So it is better to put the plant in the shade and do not forget to bring Chamaedorea Elegans inside the house before the cold autumn or winter winds start. One of the advantages of Parlor Palm houseplants is that they can stay fresh under artificial light or low light.
How often should you water a Parlor Palm?
During the growing season, which is from spring to summer, you should usually water the plant once a week. When the plant is asleep and resting and growing more slowly in winter, it is better to give the relevant material every two weeks.
You can easily determine the time of watering yourself, to do this, dip your finger in the soil, and if you notice that a few inches above the soil is dry, you should water the plant. Pour the water until it comes out from under the pot.
Water is suitable for this plant:
Do not be too cold. The water should be in constant contact with the environment.
Does not contain sediment. If you think the water contains chemicals and sediments, it is better to let it rest for a while until the sediments settle.
In this way, to care for Parlor Palm, watering is considered to be of great significance.
What is the best soil for a Parlor Palm?
To create the best conditions and performance, plant Chamaedorea Elegans in well-drained soil. If the plant soil is too heavy or retains too much water, the roots of the plant will suffer and you will lose your plant. The Parlor Palm indoor plant needs rich, well-drained soil, and when the topsoil dries a few inches, we need to water it again.
What is the best fertilizer for a Parlor Palm?
In addition to the nutrient-rich soil of Parlor Palm, proper and regular fertilization is also an important factor in caring for Chamaedorea Elegans houseplants.
If you initially chose soil that contained fertilizer, do not worry about re-fertilizing for about three months. These soils contain a type of fertilizer that slowly decomposes in the soil and provides the plant with nutrients each time it is hydrated.
If you want your plant to be fresh and healthy, it is better to fertilize your plant with water every three or four weeks. Just mix the fertilizer in your drainage container and then add it to the soil.
Another way to fertilize Chamaedorea Elegans indoor plants is to add granules to the soil. It is enough to scatter the granules on the soil surface and water them as usual. This causes the fertilizer to decompose slowly in the soil and meet the soil needs for about three months. Parlor Palm only needs fertilizer between spring and summer, which is the growing season. In autumn and winter, the plant needs sleep and rest, so there is no reason to fertilize it.
Parlor Palm is non-toxic to children and pets.
