On This Day In History . 9 November 1389 . Isabella of Valois was born . Isabella was Queen consort of England as the second spouse of King Richard II. . Her parents were King Charles VI of France and Isabeau of Bavaria. . She married the king at the age of seven and was widowed three years later. About Catherine; . ◼ Catherine of Valois (born.27 October 1401) was the Queen consort of England from 1420 until 1422. . ◼ She was the descendant, consort, and ancestor of kings. A daughter of Charles VI of France, she married Henry V of England, and gave birth to his heir Henry VI of England. . ◼ Her liaison (and possible secret marriage) with Owen Tudor proved the springboard of that family’s fortunes, eventually leading to their grandson’s elevation as Henry VII of England. . ◼ Catherine’s older sister Isabella was queen of England from 1396 until 1399, as the child bride of Richard II. . On This Day In History . 9 October 1514 . 👑 Mary Tudor married Louis XII of France . ◼ Cardinal Wolsey negotiated a peace treaty between England & France, & on 9 October 1514, at the age of 18, Mary married the 52-year-old King Louis XII of France at Abbeville. . ◼ One of the Maids of Honour who attended her in France was Anne Boleyn. . ◼ Despite two previous marriages, Louis had no living sons, & sought to produce an heir; but he died on 1 January 1515, less than three months after marrying Mary, reputedly worn out by his exertions in the bedchamber. . ◼ Their union produced no children.  Following Louis' death, the new King Francis I made attempts to arrange a second marriage for the beautiful widow. . ◼ Mary later married Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. . About Mary; . Mary Tudor (b.18 March 1496 – d.25 June 1533), the third daughter of Henry VII of England & Elizabeth of York, was an English princess. Mary became the third wife of Louis XII of France, more than 30 years her senior. Following his death, she married Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk. The marriage, which was performed secretly in France, took place without her brother's consent. This necessitated the intervention of Thomas Wolsey & although the couple were eventually pardoned by Henry VIII, they were forced to pay a large fine. . Mary's second marriage produced four children; & through her eldest daughter Frances, Mary was the maternal grandmother of Lady Jane Grey, who was the de facto monarch of England for a little over a week in July 1553. . About Louis X; . Louis XII (b.27 June 1462 – d.1 January 1515) was a monarch of the House of Valois who ruled as King of France from 1498 to 1515 & King of Naples from 1501 to 1504.
