Hey guys! Hope quarantine is treating you well. After a very long time, I'm back with many new compositions! I've missed performing for a live audience, so here are my upcoming performances! I’m hosting an event with @myscoot.in starting this 6 September, 7:00pm - 8:00pm. So, there’s gonna be music and lots of interaction in that session. It’s gonna be a paid session of Rs. 125 only per session and 350 Rs. for 4 session Pass. Why should you join a session that you have to pay for online? I get your point but this session is more like House gig where we all sit together, talk, sing songs, play games and CHILL. A basic amount of Rs. "One hundred and twenty five" for an amazing therapeutic session. Need your support and blessings, Hope to see you all there. 🙏 Go book your slot now- *LINK IN BIO* OR www.myscoot.in website. *Season Pass | 6 Sep - https://tinyurl.com/y6rehx4c* *Sub Events* 6 Sep | https://tinyurl.com/y6cp8fvf 12 Sep | https://tinyurl.com/y6huxms9 20 Sep | https://tinyurl.com/y2kekp3s #livemusic #IndieMusic #performance #originalcomposition #housegig #duringpandemic #musicianlife #handpanplayer #cajonplayer #sarodplayer #instruments #instrumental #handpan #cajon #sarod #rabab #stayhome #staysafe #india (at Zoom-Online) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEm1RR_lf13/?igshid=1950s4v1qds21

❤️A r e. W e. T h e r e. Y e t ? ❤️ Good morning , before I switch off for 2 days with beautiful family. I'm celebrating everything we've achieved so far. I can't say thankyou enough to those of you who send messages of encouragement , even just the slightest nod to let me know you're with me on this journey Cos I realised a long time ago, if I can have fun and find meaning on the journey , then it doesn't matter HOW long it takes to reach the destination! #thankyou #milestone #arewethereyet #independentartist #sofarsounds #vinyls #patreon #journey #destination #berlin #clubnight #housegig #hotnewartists #coldoldartists #radiox #absoluteradio #bbcintroducing #6music #bbcradio2 #newyork #losangeles #musicsupervisors #syncnow #european #🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 #🎸🎸🎸 (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CfODlODDanU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

At Sofar With... Postcards
Tumblr media
Postcards is a folk rock band from Beirut, Lebanon formed in 2012. The group consists of Julia Sabra (ukulele, mandolin, guitar and vocals), Marwan Tohme (guitars and vocals), Pascal Semerdjian (drums, harmonica and vocals) and Rany Bechara (bass, keyboard and vocals). They have two EPs: Lakehouse, released on September 2013 and What Lies So Still which came out last year in July. The release date for their debut album is scheduled for early next year. Before they continued their european tour, Postcards made a last stop in Sofar Sounds Lisbon and they brought with them the best of indie folk. After the concert we talked with them about how music can save lives, the growing musical scene in Lebanon and their forthcoming album.
How was your experience on Sofar Sounds Lisbon?
Julia: It was great.
Pascal: Yeah, it was great because we went to Sofar in Beirut and it was in a really tiny apartment, there were like 20 people, so that was what we had in mind. This place is amazing, there were really amazing people…
Marwan: We didn’t expected this at all.
Julia: And it’s so intimate, it’s cool. These are the best type of shows.
And are you enjoying Portugal? We read that you love this country.
Pascal: Yeah, we love Portugal! Especially Lisbon.
Julia: I think that at some point we are moving here.
Your debut album is coming out next year. Black and White sounded different from your other works, more pop-ish and electric. What can you tell us about this forthcoming album?
Pascal: Black and White was a song that came out in a very different way. It happened very fast.
Julia: We were just starting to record.
Pascal: Yeah, and usually we go back and forth with our songs but Black and White was really fast-forward. We normally don’t write songs that are that pop-ish but we enjoyed it, so we just started recording it because it sounded cool and we would work later on the album.
Julia: But the album is a bit more pop-ish though it still has this element of folk.
Pascal: Black and White does not completely predict the album though.
Julia: Yeah, it’s not exactly the album, but it is more pop-ish. It is still rooted in folk and rock but not as much as before.
Pascal: We’re more relaxed writing songs, so we don’t think about details anymore. We just write songs and see what fits.

In this single, you also talk about these golden days before the war. How has the conflict affected you as musicians and as a band?
Julia: The war ended in early 90’s and we didn’t experienced it because we were born around that time, but we still feel the effect of the war in Lebanon. This idea of the golden days is that everything was better before the war, like in the 60’s where we were the Paris of the Middle East and Lebanon was going through the Golden Age. This is true in some aspects, but it still wasn’t politically stable and there were a lot of problems. People look back at the period before the war as if it was the best period ever.
Pascal: Also, in the 60’s the photographs were way more expensive than now, so I guess they only planned to take photos of the nice places like the downtown with the good buses and stuff. Not everyone had an iPhone.
Julia: (laughs) Yeah, that’s a good point! But personally it didn’t really affect us much as we were the generation that was born after the war, we don’t really know how it was before it and we didn’t go through the war so we’re not as traumatized but we’re used to live in weird conditions and we just go with it and adapt.
Pascal: But post-war syndromes are everywhere in Lebanon because we didn’t get closure after the war.
Julia: Yes, but we’re the generation that adapts and just keeps going no matter what. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad because you ignore the bad things that are happening as you know they are always happening. But it is what it is.
We read a really interesting passage that said that your music creates a place of peace and safety in the middle of all the rush and violence that there is in the world. Do you feel like your music could be this safe place where we feel peace?
Marwan: Personally, music has been an escape since I was really young and I think it is to all of of the band as well, so maybe this is an unconsciously translation of this feeling.
Julia: People expect the music of the region to be all about the social problems. The most famous bands like Mashrou’ Leila, I don’t know if you’ve heard of them but they talk about all the problems but in our case people feel like our music doesn’t really represents the way we live and I don’t think it has to do it. Even if we talk about the country and sometimes we talk about the its problems, our music is more an escape from that.
Pascal: But I think unconsciously it really does [represent how they live] because we kind of ignore the situation so that we have good lives and we also are really inspired by artists from abroad so this bubble that we create comforts us and it takes us away from our country. People who watch us also feel that for 20 or 30 minutes they’ll be able to disconnect from the country because the music reminds them of something else, like american bands. I think this is a reaction to the whole situation as well.
Tumblr media
What artist or group of artists from Lebanon we should definitely know?
Julia: Well there are a lot. There’s a growing music scene actually. The most famous ones are Mashrou’ Leila, they sing in arabic this type of indie rock.
Pascal: Mashrou ‘Leila are like the first indie band that made it in Lebanon.
Julia: And outside the country, they are on tour, they are everywhere.
Marwan: There’s a band called The Incompetents that I personally like.
Julia: The Scrambled Eggs!
Pascal: Yes, Scrambled Eggs it’s like post-punk.
Julia: There’s Charlie Rayne who is a folk artist really cool and Interbellum but it is a temporary project. The music scene is kind of small in Lebanon and there’s a shortage of drummers so Pascal plays with a lot of bands like Interbellum and The Wanton Bishops. He records a lot with the Bunny Tylers also.
Pascal: We also have Fadi Tabbal who produces everyone and he has many bands, he’s a really great guitarrist.
Marwan: He’s our producer aswell.
Pascal: And Charbel Haber who is the experimental artist, for me. We have a really good experimental scene going on.
Marwan: You should google more bands, we can’t name all the good ones.
