Description

The portrait shows Marie Antoinette, the youngest daughter of Emperor Francis I Stephen and Maria Theresa, with an elaborate tower hairstyle and a robe à l'anglaise. At the top is the bust of Louis XVI, to whom she was married in 1770. The painting was made as an intimate portrait of the young queen for her mother in Vienna. "Your large portrait delights me!" Maria Theresa replied to her daughter and had the painting displayed in the Hofburg.

Brazilian Novelas (Telenovelas): Novo Mundo (2017) (New World) In Lisbon, Portugal, 1817, Caroline Josepha Leopoldine Franziska Ferdinanda, archduchess of Austria from the house of Hasburg-Lorraine, has her goodbye party from Europe. Later known as Maria Leopoldina,  the princess of the Portuguese Empire is going to Brazil to be with her new husband, the prince Dom Pedro de Alcântara and the royal family. At the party, a little misunderstanding happens and Joaquim, a young actor, is arrested as a thief. He manages to escape and enters the princess’s ship, the one that goes to Brazil. In the ship, he poses as a sailor and falls in love with the princess’s portuguese teacher, the englishwoman Anna Millman. They have a love affair, but the princess’ ship is attacked by pirates. In the confusion Joaquim manages to save the princess, but falls at sea. He’s presume dead but is thrown by waves at the coast of Bahia and rescued by a native tribe. Leopoldina arrives at Rio de Janeiro to meet her new husband, but finds a rude man without manners, a ladies’ man with several lovers. Four years pass by and Napoleon has fallen in Europe. The portuguese royal family is safe and can go back to Lisbon. But the king Dom João IV, decides that the prince Dom Pedro should stay in Brazil as a regent. The tension inside the colony is rising, and several groups are whispering words of independence. The prince, a rude man, needs the support of his wife and several other historical figures, as Domitila de Castro, his lover, and José Bonifácio de Andrada, the main voice of independence, to balance his wishes and his love for the brazilian land and the wishes of the portuguese nobles.
