Don’t mind the shadow here, folks! Just came back from a Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Fantasy just today. Not a Yuletide Disney Cruise without a particular pipe organ who is always bolted to the wall - or rather, BLINGED ON A FISH EXTENDER!
The materials are scrap black fabric I found in the converted van and DMC rhinestones, the only ones bought for this FE. (Found the applicator wand while I organized my storage unit over a month ago!)

@lenacraft so I’m not sure of the jacket name parts, but it’s a jean jacket (so I’m not sure if lapel is the right word? Because it doesn’t really fold?) and the buttons strip and button hole strip are bedazzled, as is one cuff and then half of the other cuff (ran out of rhinestones. crying.)
It’s just me and my 1% bedazzled jacket against the world
#it’s gonna take so long and so many rhinestones 😭#that was 300 rhinestones#which actually I thought I was ordering way more#cause 300 is kinda a small amount#but also not a small number of times to use that goddamn hotfix tool#reblog

Hello!! Your bodysuit looks so amazing so far! I am trying to do the same outfit for my show and was wondering if you have any tips? I'm planning to make strings of beads and sew them down to my base but im always interested in how other people have done it
tysm! ive been using hotfix rhinestones & a dedicated tool for it on a premade bodysuit. i would DEFINITELY recommend drawing the outline using sewing chalk on a dress form or (and this is what i did) the bodysuit while you wear it. even a general outline using references will help with gemstone placement. those rhinestones will outline where sequins & beads will go too!
as for the fringe: definitely put your beads in a bowl. double up your thread and use a thin beading needle (this is also true for your embroidery on the suit, since single thread snaps easily). i use three larger beads on the fringe to secure them since they’ll snap.
be prepared for it to get very heavy.
i can create an amazon list of products i used if it’ll help out?

Lots of progress this weekend.
Firstly, the shoes are finished. I'd love it if I never have to make gladiator sandals again, personally. I had to redo the top of each one several times for fit, and I completely depleted the scrap fabric I was using to make these.
I also went ahead and finished the necklace. I've have the prism part done since about November or so but I was putting off doing the necklace because I hate foamwork. I really love the resin gem. I added glitter to the bottom when I cast it which creates a nice depth when the light hits it.
I managed to get it to work as a solid band around the back of the neck - not particularly important for Dimitri, who has hair that will cover that spot, but important for Felix, who my wife is cosplaying and who has a ponytail and will continue to have a ponytail as a genderbend.
Ugly seam is ugly, but it can be because it's hidden. The closure is magnetic and nestles behind the gem. The 5 mm foam is thick enough to hold its shape when pressed together, so I didn't need another stabilization point. Ideally, I would have liked to match the color on this for the felt, but it's hidden anyway and that was the closest color I had on hand that wouldn't give me an allergic reaction (I have wool felt in that color, but it would cause me trouble on my neck).
I got a chunk of beading done on the tabard sides, and added the last of the trim that it needed. Hopefully I can finish the beading on the tabard today. I also want to go in on the silver part of the skirt and add some silver preciosa bicones at some point.
I think I finished everything that I wanted to do with my Cricut Maker as well. I cut 12+ crests for each of us in holographic vinyl (blue for me, transparent blue for her... they're both blue and transparent though). These will be on our dangles as an embellishment.
I also cut my rhinestone flock template. This will be used to add hotfix rhinestones to the bottom of the skirt. I'm planning to color match so it should be subtle.
In case you also have a Maker, I cut this flock without the paper backing, flock side up on a standard grip mat with the bonded wool felt setting, and ran it through twice. Once probably would have worked fine but I wanted to make sure it would work.
If you want to do anything with rhinestone templates, I can't recommend flock enough. It was pretty easy to design (I just went over the Blaiddyd Crest with dots the right size), mirrored and flipped pieces as needed, and cut it in my cricut. It worked on the first try with how I'd spaced everything. This is so much faster and precise than placing everything by hand would have been.
And here's the test on a scrap piece of dupioni with scrap rhinestones in the same size that came with my rhinestone brush. Unimpressed dog in background is unimpressed. 20 seconds at 320 F with my heat press at about 30 lbs of pressure did the job and caused no problem with the silk. Only one rhinestone of the entire design got displaced, which I adhered with gem tac (I didn't want to get my hotfix tool out).
👀 And not because I know from experience or anything, but don't use cricut transfer tape for rhinestone transfers. It isn't heat resistant and will try to melt on your heat press (I got it off in time).
Thankfully I figured out my rhinestone flock came with transfer tape so I'm all set tor doing this on my actual costume.
I won't be getting as much done this coming weekend because I'm going out of town Thursday night - Friday midday, then I have a friend coming in that afternoon from out of town, and on Saturday, I get my Byleth tattoo on my leg so I won't really feel like doing much after that.

Okay let me get a little heated for the art/beauty/fashion community for a second:
S/war0vski used to be a huge supporter of smaller artists—there was a massive line of beading, hotfix, sewing crystals etc and they could even be used by nail techs for nail art.
Most artists loved the brand and products they provided. I even was able to get my hands on Aurora Borealis teardrops for some stained glass snowflakes.
In 2020, however, the company began pulling away from the public market. They stopped making lighting fixtures and crystals for artisans.
Here’s part of the letter sent to a former supplier of their products:
If you want access to their products (like I attempted through a bead company and got rejected) you have to now submit an application, show them your website or social media, and you CANNOT use their brand name if approved so as to not attach svski to small creators.
They also absolutely will not let any nail techs use their products any more.
So then I saw this today:
30,000 rhinestones. Which nail techs and creators can’t use. Approved because it’s a celebrity. And the brand name attached to the project and tagged in the post.
So I guess the brand name and product use is okay if you’re famous 🤷🏼♀️ screw smaller artists /s
#art history#crystal#rhinestone#idk this just makes me so upset#screw over creators but this is okay????

Well, I got this far
But now I'm out of 6mm rhinestones until the ones I ordered arrives *cries in waiting for packige*
Gotta wait for the hotfixing tool to cool down so I can swap the tip out and start filling in the smaller rhinestones, and I'll finish the outline when I get back home next week. At least this is something I can do anywhere, since unlike the backdrop it doesn't involve the risks wet paint + 4 cats poses. XD

My 6th grade project was sewing sachets of treats for the troops. Hadn’t I done that, I wouldn’t have made 3 Fish Extenders for my 3 of 5 Disney Cruise Line voyages so far.
Here’s my latest, specially made for a voyage on the Disney Fantasy last December. Because it was a Very Merrytime Cruise, I went with a hotfix rhinestone design of Maestro Forte from Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.
Note: You don't have to know how to make anything fancy. Just do you know the basics well enough to at least get started?
(Please reblog for a larger sample size)

So I’m bedazzling a jacket for a costume (I’m so cooked, the contest is on Tuesday, I’m never gonna get this done in time), and this is my first time bedazzling something so I decided to write my thoughts on it in case one of y’all wants it for like. a reference for fics. or something. (totally not procrastinating going to sleep):
• Idk if bedazzling is like a trademark or something cause all I could find was a “hotfix” tool
• You cannot just use any rhinestones, they have to be hotfix rhinestones, which is rhinestones that already have glue on the back, and what your tool does is just heats up that glue (ask me how I know, ask me about the bag of pink rhinestones that are useless to me and I have no idea what to do with them)
• Also it’s weirdly difficult to find these rhinestones, the only hotfix ones I could find in stores were these hella expensive ones that were like. $10 for 15 rhinestones, that’s almost a dollar a rhinestone. what the fuck. bought some online, but it’s definitely not gonna cover the whole jacket, gonna have to check out a couple more stores tomorrow before probably giving up and going online again
• You’re not gonna get them into straight lines. Or maybe that’s just me. But these rhinestones are not in perfect lines and honestly I don’t give a fuck, what’s the point of doing something by hand if it just looks as perfect as a machine made one anyways
• You’re gonna try to avoid looking at all the parts of your project you still have left, it’s gonna be a lot and it’s gonna make you cry if you think about it for too long
• You’re gonna keep telling yourself not to touch the rhinestones to make sure they’re actually glued on, and you’re gonna keep failing and burning your fingers on them
• You’re supposed to hold the tool on each stone for 30-40 seconds. You will quickly stop counting and just start holding it till you feel like it’s done (hence why you keep touching them also to make sure they’re glued) (not to self: buy an hourglass that counts 30 seconds)
• Back hurts from leaning over it
• Takes forever
• Seriously
• Maybe it’s on me tho for trying to do an entire jacket
• There’s still so much left to do I’m gonna start crying
• Save me
