Enchanted - chapter 1 sneak peek
There was a distant ping that made him sit up and blink away the sleep he was coaxing with booze and pills. He flipped the covers off and threw his legs over the side of the bed with a faint creak in his left knee and a twinge in his back. God, he wasnât even 32 yet and his body was already falling apart. He began walking towards his duffel bag near the entrance to his bedroom. Well, not his bedroom, but it was his for tonight. He made the creepy old fuck pay for two nights on top of his commission.
He dug through the bag and checked 3 of his burner phones before he found the one that pinged. He opened his messages and let out a huff â theyâd gone to the trouble of reaching out to him, why the fuck couldnât they just make it straightforward? Coordinates reminded him of his dad though and that made him crack a smile as he opened his laptop and typed in the two strings of numbers: 45.0522° N, 82.4851° W. Fuck. Canada.
3:00. Well, at least he still had his snazzy Manhattan hotel room for tonight. Just as he was about to throw himself back onto the high thread count sheets, another message came through.
Donât be late.
UA278
It was a hyperlink to a flight from JFK to bum-fuck nowhere Canada, leaving in 1 hour. So much for enjoying the expensive high-rise. He heard another ping and saw that he had been wired $7,000. Finally, he texted back.
Thatâs below my rate, buddy. I donât get out of bed for less than $10,000.
Another ping. $5,000.
Get your ass to the airport, now. You need to be at the location at 8 am.
Even in this line of work, he hates being told what to do but for the extra $2,000, he was willing to let it slide.
It better be a first-class ticket.
He waited for a response before starting to pack his duffel.
Obviously.

City Airport Transfers
Navigating City Airport Transfers: Tips for Smooth Urban Travel
When traveling to or from a bustling city, the experience of navigating city airport transfers can be a challenge. Whether you're a frequent business traveler or heading on a much-anticipated holiday, ensuring a smooth transfer between the airport and your destination is essential for a stress-free journey. This guide offers essential tips for making your city airport transfers as seamless and efficient as possible.
Why City Airport Transfers Matter
Urban areas are often characterized by dense traffic, complex public transportation networks, and busy airports. With major airports located in or near cities, such as Heathrow in London or JFK in New York, the need for well-organized city airport transfers becomes crucial. A well-planned transfer ensures timely arrival and departure, reducing travel stress, and giving you peace of mind.
City airport transfers offer a variety of transportation options, including private taxis, shuttle services, and public transport links, catering to every type of traveler. Whether you prefer comfort, speed, or budget-friendly solutions, choosing the right mode of transport for your journey can significantly enhance your travel experience.
Choosing the Right City Airport Transfer Option
The key to a smooth city airport transfer lies in selecting the right option for your needs. Here are some of the most popular transfer methods, each offering distinct advantages:
1. Private Car Transfers
If you prioritize comfort and convenience, booking a private car transfer might be the best choice. Private transfers allow you to enjoy a personalized travel experience, often with door-to-door service. This option is perfect for those who value privacy or are traveling with a lot of luggage. Private cars are available for pre-booking, making it easy to arrange a vehicle before you arrive at your destination.
Tip: Always pre-book your transfer to avoid long waiting times and ensure the vehicle is available upon your arrival.
2. Airport Shuttle Services
Shuttle services offer a cost-effective solution for city airport transfers. Typically shared with other passengers, these services provide transport to various city locations or designated hubs, such as hotels or city centers. While less private than a taxi or private car, shuttles often operate on a fixed schedule, making them reliable for both pick-up and drop-off.
Tip: Check the shuttle schedule ahead of time to align it with your flight's arrival or departure time. This will prevent any unnecessary delays.
3. Public Transportation
In many major cities, public transportation systems are designed to connect the airport with the city center or key districts. Options such as trains, buses, or metro services provide budget-friendly alternatives to private transport. Although public transportation may require a bit more planning and patience, it can be a great way to avoid heavy traffic and experience the local culture.
Tip: Research public transport routes and timetables before your trip. Some cities offer special airport train services that are faster and more convenient than regular lines.
4. Rideshare Apps
Rideshare services like Uber or Lyft are widely available in urban areas, offering a flexible and convenient way to arrange city airport transfers. With the tap of a button, you can summon a ride directly to the airport terminal or your accommodation. This option often offers lower costs compared to traditional taxis but can vary depending on demand.
Tip: Be aware of surge pricing during peak hours. If your travel time coincides with high demand, the cost of rideshare services may increase significantly.
Factors to Consider for Smooth City Airport Transfers
To make the most of your city airport transfer, itâs important to plan ahead and consider the following factors:
1. Traffic Conditions
Urban areas are notorious for heavy traffic, particularly during rush hours. When planning your city airport transfer, account for potential traffic delays by leaving extra time for your journey. This is especially important when traveling to the airport, as missing your flight could lead to unnecessary stress and additional costs.
Tip: Use real-time traffic apps or services to monitor congestion on your route and choose the quickest path to your destination.
2. Distance Between Airport and City Center
The distance between the airport and the city center can vary greatly depending on the location. Some airports, like London City Airport, are conveniently located near the city, while others, such as Charles de Gaulle in Paris, are much farther out. Understanding the distance involved will help you estimate travel time and determine the most efficient transfer option.
Tip: If youâre in a hurry, consider opting for a high-speed train or direct shuttle that connects the airport to the city center without multiple stops.
3. Budget Constraints
Your budget will play a significant role in deciding how to navigate city airport transfers. While private cars offer luxury and convenience, public transportation may be the best option for travelers on a tighter budget. Balancing your need for comfort and efficiency with your available funds is essential for a smooth travel experience.
Tip: Check for discounts, promotions, or package deals that some airport transfer services may offer. Many cities provide passes or special rates for tourists.
4. Group Size and Luggage
Traveling in a group or with heavy luggage may limit your transfer options. Public transport may not be ideal if youâre carrying large suitcases, while private transfers or shuttle services often accommodate bigger parties and more luggage.
Tip: If youâre traveling with others, consider booking a van or larger vehicle to ensure everyone has enough space. This can often be more cost-effective than booking multiple smaller cars.
Maximizing Comfort and Efficiency
When it comes to city airport transfers, comfort and efficiency should be top priorities. Here are some additional tips to ensure your transfer is hassle-free:
Pre-book your transfer: Booking your transfer in advance ensures you wonât have to wait upon arrival. It also allows you to lock in a fixed price, avoiding any last-minute surprises.
Stay connected: Keep your phone charged and have access to Wi-Fi or mobile data. This will help you communicate with your driver or check real-time updates on your chosen transfer method.
Confirm your pick-up point: Large airports often have multiple exits, so make sure you confirm the correct pick-up point with your driver or service provider to avoid any confusion.
Allow extra time: Always build in extra time to account for unexpected delays, such as flight changes, traffic, or long lines at customs.
Conclusion
City airport transfers are a crucial part of urban travel, and with the right planning and knowledge, you can ensure a smooth and stress-free experience. Whether you opt for a private car, shuttle service, or public transport, selecting the most suitable option for your needs and budget is key to a successful journey.
By following these tips and carefully considering your transfer options, you'll be well-prepared to navigate any city airport transfer with ease. Make your next trip seamless by planning ahead and choosing the transfer method that best suits your urban travel needs.

Hotel vs. Office: The Battle for Residential Conversions
Two Solutions to the Housing Shortage
The housing crisis looms large, and creative solutions are in high demand. Enter the conversion of underutilized spacesâspecifically, hotels and office buildingsâinto residential havens. But each path has its unique challenges, and developers must tread carefully.
Hotels: A Practical Pathway
Advantages:
Existing Infrastructure: Hotels come with a ready-made floorplan, complete with water and waste lines. Converting them into apartments is often straightforward and cost-effective.
Speedy Transformation: Hotel-to-residential projects can be completed swiftly, saving time and money.
Challenges:
Location Matters: While some hotels sit in prime city centers, others languish near airports or highways. These less desirable spots can dampen the appeal of residential conversions.
Affordability Focus: Hotel conversions shine when repurposed for affordable or supportive housing. Case in point: the former JFK Airport Hilton Hotel in Queens, now the Baisley Pond Park Residencesâa 318-unit multifamily building serving low-income families and individuals.
Offices: A Design Dilemma
Advantages:
Urban Appeal: Office buildings, often nestled in city centers, offer proximity to work and public transportation. Their conversion potential is alluring.
Challenges:
Sunlight Starvation: Office layouts, designed for work efficiency, often lack natural light. Innovative solutionsâlike central atriumsâcan mitigate this issue.
Costly Adjustments: Elevators, stairways, and water risers are typically centralized in office cores. Retrofitting these for residential use increases expenses and construction timelines².
In the battle of hotel vs. office, both contenders vie for the title of best residential conversion. Which will prevail? Only timeâand creative designâwill tell. đ˘đ¨

21 Day Europe Adventure September 2023
On 9/1 we took a 7pm Aer lingus direct flight from JFK to fly directly to Dublin Ireland. With a 8 yo I thought I would give a night time flight to try sleeping on the plane so we could gain an extra day of site seeing.
The plan was to get to the airport early so we didnât have to rush, but we got there too early and had to wait an hour before checking in our bags in and able to go thru security. Once we go thru security we where able to get dinner inside.
Insider tip: bring water bottles to grab filter water from the airport at no extra charge!
We grab burgers because we didnât get dinner until 9pm. The plan was to go to sleep on the plane but due to so many babies crying we were unable to sleep. Def was not excepting this! Lesson learned! My son manage to sleep for 3 hours, he was so happy playing with the planeâs features, it kept him very entertained with games and movies. However I did download lots of shows and movies on Disney plus and Netflixâs on his iPad as a backup. He did not even asked for his iPad which was a plus during the flight!
ARRIVAL
When arrived the next morning ( 8 hours ) it was 8am in Ireland but 4am in est time zone. We went directly to the car rentals in the airport assuming that our rental would be there. To my surprise it wasnât. I was able to get wifi and get into my emails where I read the instructions from the rental. It instructed us to go to terminal 1 shuttle area and to call when we arrived so that a shuttle would pick us up. Since I could only use my data with my esim I purchase online via Airalo I could not make calls. I tried using my google voice but since it was not a US number I could not call the number. I had to ask one of the airport works to call for us, which they did and we were able to let them know we where waiting.
Once our shuttle came were where taken 5 mins away to a rental location where we waited to pay the balance our our rental. I was sure that our rental came with insurance but it didnât. We were given a choice to leave a credit card with a 1,000 euros block or to add insurance for 500 euros. Since this was my first time driving on the left side we opt for the 500 euro option so we would be covered. Luckily we did not have any accidents just a few scares along the way đ.
Hereâs what the rental cost 10 days 9/2-9/11
$787 deposit( $164.47 ) plus insurance $651 total $1438
As we where waiting we found out that the apple play was not working properly so we had to wait for a different car. After 3 hours they where able to get us a car with a working gps, which Iâm not a fan off but it would be good for a backup Incase my gps lost connection. To my surprise the usb iPhone connectors worked and the car was able to connect to apple play but found that it drained my esim data to quickly.
Trick: One trick I learned was to place my phone on airplane mode once I got the directions so that the data from the esim would not drain so quickly. I was able to do 10 days off 3gb.
Trip Start:
1st Hotel, Day 1 Glashaus Hotel right outside of Dublinin Tallaght. The hotel was extremely comfortable, clean and had access to transit. The hotel is very well located near a mall and an Aldi to purchase gallon of waters. Luas train is a 1 minute walk away and makes getting to Central Dublin quick and inexpensive. Since we had a rent a car we did not take the transit but we could see it right outside of our hotel room. The hotel did provided onsite parking.
We had arrived an hour early then checkin so we left our luggage there and went into the restaurant to have a late lunch. The food was delicious!
Although breakfast was not included we where able to purchase it after 9am at the restaurant right in the hotel. We checked out early, the first day was going to be a long drive. We checked out at 7am and headed to Northern Ireland.
Day 2 Here where our stops:
Stop 1: Malahide Castle
Stop 2: Breakfast at Cafe Provence Malahide
Stop 3: Titanic Belfast The Titanic Experience is the worldâs most authentic retelling of the iconic story. The self-guided tour extends over nine interactive galleries where you discover the sights, sounds, smells and stories of the ship, as well as the people and city that made her.
Close by Titanic Belfast, two important titans of naval history are on view. SS Nomadic is the last remaining White Star Line ship in the world and was built alongside Titanic in 1911 to ferry passengers to the great liner from shore. A self-guided tour is included in your ticket to Titanic Belfast.
Lunch at the Titanic Hotel Belfast right beside Titanic Belfast. This luxury hotel is located in the old Harland and Wolff Headquarters and Drawing Offices and is filled with Titanic heritage.
Stop 4: Causeway hotel
If you'd like to explore the Giantâs Causeway, you canât stay any closer than the Causeway Hotel. During your stay, you can discover this UNESCO World Heritage site for free â all from the comfortable base of this Grade II listed hotel. enjoy this dramatic landscape from the comfort of the Causeway Hotel â offers 28 suite rooms, all with views of the Atlantic Ocean, or with a private terrace to enjoy the sun setting in this magical landscape.
We checked into our hotel at 8pm booked dinner reservations for 8:45pm. The brought our bags to our room and we freshened up and went down to dinner then went to bed directly after dinner so that we could wake up at 7am to do an early morning hike to the causeways.
Day 3 Northern Island 7 am hike to the causeways
Tip: The earlier you go the better opportunity you get for photo ops. Less crowds!
The Giant's Causeway lies at the foot of the basalt cliffs along the sea coast on the edge of the Antrim plateau in Northern Ireland. It is made up of some 40,000 massive black basalt columns sticking out of the sea. The dramatic sight has inspired legends of giants striding over the sea to Scotland. Geological studies of these formations over the last 300 years have greatly contributed to the development of the earth sciences.
Stop 1 carrick a rede rope bridge
Stop 2 Ballintoy harbour
Stop 3 Bushmills Inn for lunch in the town of Bushmills.
Stop 4 Dunluce Castle / castle rock
stop 5 Mussenden Temple
stop 6 Dark hedges
stop 7 back to Causeway Hotel
Day 4 breakfast at the causeway hotel
Then we headed to the UNESCO MUSEUM: The Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast site was inscribed as a World Heritage Site (WHS) by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1988.
Took the trail down the causeway for one last view!
Below is a map of the places we visited while we stayed at the causeway hotel. The last image is a map of our hotels while we road tripped around Ireland!
My first blog was 3 whole days and the morning of our 4th day. Please go to the next blog post for part 2 of our Ireland Adventure Road TripâŚ. Day 4 continues with our lunch stop in The town of Derry/Londonderry and afternoon tea ashford castle!

You getting stuck in the aiport made me realize we have never had a meet cute with Sonny there. So HC for Sonny+reader stuck in the airport. Write it whenever you feel like it. No rush. And take careâ¤
(Being stuck in an airport for over 12 hours was the worst and I wish I had a meet cute with Sonny đ)
"No, no--fuck!" you cursed under your breath as you looked at the display of departures. Sure enough, the one heading for JFK was cancelled...as were all the ones going to New York. The snow must be terrible.
Others voiced their dismay at the cancelled flights, and soon enough, it was a mass migration to the airline desk. The line took forever and you heard more and more people agree to taking the free hotel stay, leaving tomorrow instead. But you hadn't been on vacation--you were at a work conference for the past week. And now, you just wanted to be home.
When you finally made it to a representative, you pleaded your case, begging for any flight. "I'll even go to Boston, or Canada! As long as I'm on a flight today--I can get home from there."
"Let's see.... It looks like there's one more flight to Boston, but it's not until 9pm," the man said. You glanced at your watch; it was 3:30.
"I'll take it. Please. Just anything to get home."
Boston plane ticket in your hand, you left the desk and glanced around, trying to find a restaurant where you could plant yourself for the next five hours. The only place with an available seat was up at a bar. Figuring you could move to a table once one was free, you sidled up to the bar.
There was a man next to you drinking beer. He glanced at you when you sat down, blue eyes bright and a soft, polite smile on his face, before he went back to the sports game he was watching.
The bartender swung by, and you ordered, "a Jack and coke, please. I'm gonna be here the next five hours--might as well have a nice buzz."
"You got it," the bartender said, giving you an apologetic look at the time stuck there.
"JFK cancelled and catching the flight to Boston?" the man sipping his beer asked.
You blinked. "Uh, yeah. I didn't want to stay in the hotel here--I just want to be home in New York."
"Me too," he replied. Once you had your drink, he raised his glass in a mock toast. "To Boston."
"To sleeping in my own bed tonight, no matter what time I get home," you said, clinking your glass to his. The flight to Boston was going to be two hours and change, and then you had to find a bus ride home.
"My name is Sonny, by the way," the man commented, bringing you out of your thoughts.
You mentally shook yourself before giving him your name. "How're you planning on getting home after landing in Boston?" you asked. You weren't sure why you were interested, but he seemed trustworthy. Maybe that was a sign to stay away.... Wasn't Ted Bundy said to be charming?
"I have a friend picking me up from the airport," he scoffed, "he's the one that sent me to the stupid DNA conference in his place; it's the least he could do."
You perked up. "DNA conference? The one in LA?"
"Oh, uh...yeah?"
You were both sitting in the Nashville, Tennessee airport, having come from California. What were the chances?
"I was there, too! For work!" you said.
That made him sit up straighter. "Oh yeah? What do you do?"
You both fell to talking easily, and the five hours stuck in the airport suddenly seemed too short. Eventually, the plane started to board. You walked together onto the plane, but you were dismayed when you sat near the front, and he kept going, sitting a few rows behind you.
But you took the card that he had given you from your pocket, and you texted him. He wrote back instantly, and just before take off, he asked if you needed a ride back to the city. Against your better judgement, you agreed, smiling to yourself as the plane sped across the runway, then launched into the air.

All Over Again - Chapter 13
Summary: What was lost can be found.Â
Warning: 18+ Smut, Language, Violence.Â
Final Chapter!!
Ch. 12
* * * * * *Â
Thereâs a brilliant smile on your face as the aerial view of New York breaks through the clouds. The multitude of skyscrapers in the city with lights on casts a glow on your face that takes Lenaâs breath away.Â
Sheâs so utterly in love with you and while sheâs seen you happy, this light in your eyes at being back in New York is brighter than ever.Â
-Ladies and gentlemen, we have just been cleared to land at the JFK airport. Please make sure one last time that your seatbelt is securely fastened. The flight attendants are currently passing around the cabin to make a final compliance check and pick up any remaining cups and glasses. Thank you.-
After having grabbed yours and Lenaâs carry ons, you walk off the airplane with her. Going through the airport to baggage claim and then leaving out to the awaiting car.Â
Over the past couple months, with how busy youâve been with prep meetings for the meeting with the UN, the actual UN meeting, the DEO, and spending time with Lena, youâd only been able to come back to New York three times.
The first time was for a mission with only a few members of the team. The second time was for the UN meeting so you hadnât been able to see your friends and family. And now your third time. For Bruceâs and Natashaâs wedding.
Your limited visits is why, the second you RSVPâd, Natasha asked that you and Lena stay at the compound for your visit as opposed to a hotel.
You werenât sure about asking Lena to but you missed your family so you asked. And lucky you, she said yes.
With a bright smile on your face, you lean forward to the driver and tell him the address.
You scoot closer to Lena, adjusting so that your arm is around her shoulders,â is it weird that Iâm a little nervous?âÂ
Itâs a bit of a rhetorical question but Lena answers it anyway.
âNot really. Youâve been gone a while, it makes sense to worry if things have changed or how theyâll react to seeing you again.â Her thumb runs over the back of your hand in a comforting way,â especially with our reason for being back.âÂ
Admittedly, you werenât expecting Bruce and Natasha to get married so soon. Well itâs been months but with them having dated for all those years, part of you thought theyâd stay engaged for a while.
Either way, youâre incredibly happy for both of them. Especially Natasha.
You and the redhead had spoken occasionally over your time in NC and while she mentioned Bruce, almost as much as you mentioned Lena, most of your conversations were just about each other: your mental well beings, random thoughts, and at times the memories you share.Â
Even though itâd mainly been phone calls, you could tell how happy she is. That alone made you smile.
âYeah, youâre right. Iâve just missed them you know, it almost feels like itâs been forever.â You sigh, looking out at the wide expanse of greenery, which is how you know youâre close to your destination.Â
Lena smiles softly at you, then leans over to kiss your cheek,â Iâm sure theyâve missed you just as much.âÂ
Shortly after that, the driver pulls to a stop at the gate and you already know you have to unlock it.Â
âHope this still works,â you mumble to yourself as you approach the lock pad. Placing your hand on the print scanner you say,â Artemis.â When it doesnât move forward to the retinal scan you get worried, then you nearly panic when it rejects the authorization.Â
With a frown you stand up straight, thinking of what to do next. Just before the thought to call someone hits you, you remember whoâs in control of the compounds security system.Â
Rolling your eyes, you place your palm on the scanner and say,â traitor,â which prompts the retinal scan.Â
You shouldnât have expected anything less.
âAlright, letâs go.â You say, leaning into the car and grabbing your bag.Â
Lenaâs eyebrows raise at your words in confusion.
Noting that, you tell her,â this place doesn't have top of the line security cause we let just anyone in you know.â Your eyes flicker to the back of the driver's seat.â Itâs like ten steps to the door, come on.âÂ
With slight reluctance, Lena follows suit. Before she can even reach for her bag, you grab it. You wait for the gate to close then turn. Lenaâs eyes follow you while you carry the bags up the pavement, fingers gripping the handles of the bags as you bite your lip.Â
âY/n,â she places her hand on your arm, both of you stopping a couple feet before the entrance,â relax. Everythingâs going to be fine.â
You take a deep breath and nod,â youâre right. I have noth-â
âY/n!â
At the sound of her voice, you turn to the building.Â
She runs out, a huge grin on her face, auburn tresses flying behind her as she nears you. Dropping the bags you catch her just as her body collides with yours. Her natural scent of rose and vanilla surrounds you as you bury your face in her neck.Â
âGod Iâve missed you,â you sigh.
When you pull away, Wanda cups your face in her hands, teary green eyes taking you in with a smile on her face,â I missed you too.âÂ
Your best friend hugs you one more time, a little shorter than the last one, before pulling away and moving to Lena.Â
âHi.â They both say through short laughs as they hug.Â
Picking the bags back up, Wanda excitedly drags you and Lena into the compound. The second youâre inside, you set the bags down in the hallway, and head into the common room.
As expected everyone is in there. What is unexpected, is seeing all of them setting up decorations: golden letters spelling out âCongratulationsâ, gold and silver ceiling swirls, gold and silver balloons, etc.Â
âWell I certainly wasnât expecting a welcome back party.âÂ
Everyone freezes at the sound of your voice, almost everyone. Just like Wanda had, Natasha speeds over to wrap you in a hug.
You chuckle and hug her back with a brief squeeze that she returns. And when you pull away you smile at her,â missed me huh?â You ask teasingly.Â
âMaybe a little.â She shrugs, with a smile as sweet as yours.
âWhatâs all this?â A nod of your head towards everyone and everything.
Natasha, after a brief but polite greeting to Lena, answers you.â Bruce and I decided, instead of bachelor and bachelorette parties, weâd just do a big movie night. Tony wouldnât let us get away without a party.â
âDamn right I wouldnât.â Said billionaireâs voice joins the conversation and you turn around to see him, as well as Pepper and Morgan.Â
âMorgan!â You exclaim, a little more excitement in your voice than had been with anyone else. You rarely saw the girl when you lived in New York, moving meant not seeing her at all. The smaller girlâs face lights up at the sight of you and she runs over, throwing herself into your arms.Â
âY/n! Whereâve you been? Mommy said you moved away.âÂ
Nodding, you smile apologetically at her,â yeah I did. But Iâm back for a few days and I promise Iâm gonna visit more.â
âYou better.â Both Natasha and Wanda say at the same time.Â
You chuckle softly, eyebrows raised at them in a playful challenge, before you stand up and turn to Tony and Pepper. The woman smiles warmly and opens her arms for a hug that you instantly accept.
âItâs so good to see you.â She says once having pulled away and you return the words.
Leaning over a little, you catch Tonyâs gaze over Pepperâs shoulder.Â
âSup T.â You head nod, feigning scared.Â
A brow is raised at you and you step around Pepper. Your hands slap and he pulls you into a one armed hug, telling you that if you donât start visiting more heâs going to bring you back for good.Â
With a laugh and a promise to come back more often, you all head over to the couches.Â
E/c eyes scan the appearance of everyone,â oh this is a pajama movie night?â Your eyebrows raise,â cause if so I got the couch.âÂ
âHow do you know the bride-to-be doesnât want the couch?â Natasha challenges, with a quirked brow.Â
You frown,â you donât need a couch, youâve got Jolly Green.â A finger is pointed to her fiance.
Said man nods, digging his spoon into a tub of ice cream,â sheâs got a point. And Iâm very comfy.âÂ
His words pull a laugh from everyone. Your best friend being the first to speak.
âIf Y/nâs got the couch I got Y/n.â Her smile slipping after a moment as she looks at the brunette by your side,â oh wait, nevermind.âÂ
A little sigh falls from your lips that Lena catches. You excuse yourself and Lena, once again grabbing your bags and then directing her through the compound to the room that was and seems to still be yours.Â
Laying the bags on the bed, you unzip yours in search of your pajamas. You grab them and turn to Lena as you start to change.Â
âHey, would you mind if me and Wan shared the couch?â You ask, adding,â itâs cool if you do, you know I love sleeping with you.â A teasing tone is laced through your honest words.
Your girlfriend shakes her head with a soft laugh,â I donât mind. Really you havenât seen each other in weeks. Besides Iâll probably sneak back here anyway, you know Iâm not one for sleeping on the floor.âÂ
âYes Iâm well aware.â Then stepping closer to her, your hands find her hips,â youâre the best by the way. I love you.âÂ
âI try,â she mumbles right before your lips meet in a short sweet kiss. Pulling away she says,â I love you too.â
From there the two of you leave out your room and head back to the common room. Everyone seems to be waiting on you, snacks and drinks spread on the table, blankets and pillows spread and piled across the floor.
Squeezing Lenaâs hand, you kiss her cheek, not noticing that mostly everyone had looked at you upon entry, until they all started making kissy noises to tease you.Â
You roll your eyes, flipping them off, and kissing Lena once again just cause. With a blush on her cheeks, she walks ahead of you and gets situated on the floor in front of the couch beside Sam who smirked and gave her a head nod.Â
Knowing that smirk all too well, you smack the side of his head while stepping over him and he returns the good natured action with a light punch to your thigh.Â
With a chuckle, you plop down on the couch, kicking your feet up and then looking to Wanda. Opening your arms, you smile and ask,â cuddle?âÂ
An excited little sound leaves her lips as she hops up and hastens over to you. Falling into your open arms, she cuddles closer to you on your lap, pulling her incredibly soft red blanket over both of you.Â
Admittedly, even though she had been calming your nerves, Lena is also nervous about spending time with the people. This isnât some stranger filled investment dinner or a Christmas party. This is their comfort zone, no one around for them to put their walls up with.Â
She finds, as the night progresses, that her worry was unnecessary. As the team letâs their guard down she finds that theyâre just as awkward, goofy, and well, normal as any other human.Â
You all tease each other, childishly throwing popcorn and making food combinations that no one would think of, and just showing love to each other in your own way.Â
By the time everyone starts to wind down, Lena is convinced that this is indeed a family.Â
Lena had indeed snuck away in the middle of the night, but not without leaving a little kiss on your forehead.Â
While you all are still asleep, the guys sneak away. Natasha and Bruce may not be doing things completely traditionally but they decided to stick to not seeing each other the day of until the ceremony.Â
In the morning, everyoneâs focused on getting ready and assisting Natasha in whatever way possible. Tony has breakfast brought to the compound, a large spread set up in the kitchen that you all dig into, filling glasses with champagne and orange juice.
A pleasant surprise comes to everyone when Pepper declines the alcohol with an avoiding gaze. It didnât take much to get the woman to admit to being pregnant again and when she does, it brings even brighter smiles to your faces and congratulations sound from all of you. She apologized to Natasha about partly stealing her day but the redhead was far too happy for her friend and herself.Â
Things seem to move pretty quickly from there, you all break off to get ready, Wanda and Pepper finishing first so they can help Natasha.Â
Itâs as youâre hanging in the kitchen, sipping more champagne with Lena, complimenting her and Morgan who both look beautiful, that Wanda rushes in.Â
Her cheeks are slightly flushed and she makes eye contact with you and sighs,â could you um-â she points behind her and you nod.Â
Setting the glass down, you follow after her,â whatâs wrong?â
âNatashaâs getting a little-â she canât find the word,â weâre trying to calm her down but she isn't exactly listening.â
You simply nod, rounding the corner to see Pepper speaking to Natasha from outside the door. She looks up as she hears you approaching and her shoulders drop.Â
Giving her a small smile, you step to the door and rap your knuckles against the door.
âPepper I already said I donât want to talk.â Natashaâs muffled voice says.Â
âWhat if Pepper isnât the one that wants to talk.â You reply.Â
Itâs quiet, then the knob twists, and the door opens a smidge. Green eyes peek through the crack, trailing over your form, before she disappears. A hesitant look is shared between the three of you before you slip inside.Â
Looking around the room, your eyes land on the ex-assassin who stands beside a window, looking out silently. You canât control the hitch of your breath as you take her in. She looks incredible in her wedding dress, an opinion you decide to share.
âYou look amazing Tash.â You say, taking small steps towards her.Â
Her fingers wring as she looks up at you,â you look great too Y/n.â
With a sigh, you pull a chair over and sit down, pulling your leg up to rest your ankle over your knee,â talk to me Tash, whatâs wrong?â
She swallows thickly,â I am terrified.â She admits after looking into your sincerely worried eyes.â I never, ever, thought I would be doing this. And then there was you and I thought that would be it and now with Bruce and itâs all so new and I wasnât made for this.âÂ
The meaning behind her words hits you hard,â hey, no, donât go down that path.â Now standing, you take her hands in yours,â you are human Natasha. You were made to love and be loved, to have happiness just like everyone else. What they forced you to believe you are is so far from who you truly are. I saw it when we were together and I see it with you and Bruce. You have a big beautiful heart Tash, your tough as nails but compassionate and understanding. Youâve been through so much and itâs made you the incredible woman you are right now.âÂ
Her eyes start to pool with tears as she listens. Taking a deep breath in and out.
âHave faith in yourself, believe that you deserve all the good thatâs about to come to you.â Squeezing her hands, you pull her into a hug.
She rests her head against your chest. Hearing your heartbeat calms her as does taking in your words.â Thank you,â she whispers,â for loving me and supporting me even when things werenât always the best between us.â
Pulling away slightly, you look down into her eyes and smile,â I told you you wouldnât lose me Nat and I meant that. Iâm always gonna be there for you.â
And itâs true. You and Natasha had hurt each other unintentionally over and over again and forgave each other over and over again. But there was and will always be love between you. Something neither of you would run away from or disregard.
Your honest words and comfort gives Natasha every bit of the courage and push she needs to move forward.Â
It carries her to the doors of the compound and down the aisle on Nick Furyâs arm. But itâs Bruceâs affirmation of love through his vows that continues to encourage her.Â
When they seal their union with a kiss youâre smiling and clapping alongside everyone else who came to support the two.Â
Through the ceremony into the reception you love seeing how happy Natasha is. A beautiful smile stays plastered on her face.Â
Leaning against the bar, you signal for the tender to get a refill on your scotch and Lenaâs Merlot.Â
âI hear youâre the reason Nat walked down the aisle today.âÂ
Bruceâs deep voice grabs your attention and you look to your side at the freshly shaven, normal sized, man in his tux.Â
âFirst off, congratulations Mr. Banner,â you clap a hand onto his shoulder,â second of all you are the reason she walked down that aisle. She was just nervous and I lended some encouraging words but her love for you man, thatâs why she said âI doâ.â
A soft chuckle leaves his lips and he nods, looking down at the bartop,â yeah youâre right. Even though she said âI doâ I still canât believe sheâs mine ya know.âÂ
You laugh as well, accepting the drinks and turning to look at Lena. Youâd done so without thought, when it came to being lucky with love sheâs the first thing that comes to mind.Â
No, the two of you arenât getting married any time soon, but every time she tells you she loves you, or kisses you, or even looks at you with adoration, you canât believe sheâs yours.
âI know exactly what you mean buddy.â Your gaze shifts and you nudge his arm with your elbow, nodding to the woman standing in the middle of the dance floor.â Think your wife wants a dance.â You look over and tell him.Â
He turns around, gaze passing yours to look to the dance floor,â yeah from you.â
Your eyebrows raise and you look back to Natasha who smiles and points to you.Â
âOh, weâll talk later.â Bruce nods to you before you walk away. Making a quick detour, you drop Lenaâs wine off, kiss her cheek, sip your drink, and jog over to Natasha.Â
Over exaggeratedly, you wave your hand and bow, waiting for her to slip her hand into yours with a loud laugh. Pulling her into your embrace you both sway to the song that plays.
The conversation between you two canât be heard over the music and youâre glad. She thanks you for everything and an affirmation of platonic love is exchanged between you. Laughter flowing as you joke around afterwards.
About three songs in, Bruce approaches, asking for a dance and you gladly step away. Turning to find Lena.
The curl of your finger beckons her over to the dance floor and she smiles while approaching. Her arms wrap around your neck and yours around her waist.Â
Itâs a silent dance, kisses exchanged in between gazes full of love and admiration.
But in a room full of your chaotically loveable family, you know it wonât last.
Being the best friend that she is, Wanda appears damn near out of nowhere. From beside you, she wraps her arms around both yourself and Lena and sways along to the music with you.Â
Your girlfriend and best friend laugh out loud, eyes crinkling as the musical sounds fill the air around you. All the while you canât help but stare, an adoringly cute smile on your face.
Admittedly you never thought youâd make it to this point. Had you been asked almost a year ago if this sort of big, bold, beautiful happiness was achievable, you wouldâve said no or given the longest explanation as to why it wasnât.
Right now though, with both women that youâd give your life for in your arms and your family and friends around you, you canât imagine where you'd be without it.
Without Lena.Â
You arenât sure if she knows how greatly sheâs changed your outlook on things. Itâs not like you told her, but if you could, you donât know how you would say it.Â
Lena came into your life and made you smile again. Sheâs shown you a trust that you donât think youâve ever experienced. The green eyed woman gave you every reason to crawl from that dark space youâd been in to see the light on the other side.
While you would never discredit all that Natasha had taught you about love and partnership, because it was indeed a life changing story between you and the ex-assassin, this is entirely different.
Honestly, youâd forgotten this kind of love and Lena retaught it to you. Itâs your gorgeous and brilliant love with her that reaffirmed for you what love is. With Lena youâve been given what you thought you lost. And itâs because of that that you have no problem falling in love with her all over again everyday. Â

Takarazuka Revue â Torodoki Yuuâs retirement press conference: as herself to the end
I donât usually post content on here directly, but I decided to cross post this translation of coverage of Todoroki Yuuâs retirement press conference in order to make it as visible as possible. I will put a link to the wordpress version, which contains the original sources, in a reply.
Takarazuka Revue â Torodoki Yuuâs retirement press conference: as herself to the end
Todoroki Yuu, Takarazuka Revue special advisor and Senka member, held a press conference in Osaka on the 18th, after announcing her retirement on October 1 of this year. With an open expression as if everything was as usual she said âAs I have until now, I want to keep enjoying myself onstage to the end while working together with my fellow performers.â
Todoroki was born in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture. She discovered Takarazuka when she saw it on television, though it seemed so distant that she even thought âit was a bunch of foreign men acting in fluent Japaneseâ*. However, her fire of longing to join that dazzling world would not be extinguished, and when she entered middle school she decided to enter Takarazuka.
Todoroki said that she asked her middle school music teacher to play the sheet music of the repertory songs included with the application papers for the Takarazuka Music School, so she could figure out what the melodies were like. She was sure she failed the exam, but as she was in a taxi back to the airport, she told the driver âIâll just go and see for memoryâs sake,â and went to the results announcement. She said she was shocked when she found her own test number. âThat driver was the first one to tell me âCongratulations!â so I still remember that even nowâ
She debuted in March of 1985 with the Moon Troupe production If Thereâs Love Iâll Live Forever. In 1988 she transferred to Snow Troupe, becoming Top Star in 1997, and in 2002 she transferred to Senka as the successor to Kasugano Yachiyo, who has been described as âthe greatest pride of otokoyakuâ. As Senka star, she appeared in many productions, leading her juniors along. She excels in singing, dance, and acting, and the overwhelming presence she exudes on stage captured the hearts of many fans.
â35 years is really too long, so itâs hard to pick shows that stand out in my memory,â she said, but looking back she said that roles such as Rhett Butler in Gone With the Wind, which has been called her masterpiece, and Reverend King in JFK, are âmemorable rolesâ for her.
She decided on her retirement around September of last year. There was no particular inciting incident: âI realized in my heart that the time had come,â she said. âIâm grateful to Chairman Ogawa Tomotsugu, and everyone else who respected my wishes. She has no plans to continue as an actress, and what she will do post retirement is undecided.
In July, she will star in the Star Troupe performance âGesakuâ: Heir of Basara, which will be produced in the Umeda Arts Theatre Drama City and Tokyo Arts Theatre Playhouse. In the play, written and directed by Ueda Shinji, she will play a man full of a sense of justice, living in the Edo era. After that, the end of her career will be decorated with hotel dinner shows held first in Osaka in August and then in Tokyo in September. This is because of her desire to âsay farewell to the fans properly from close upâ.
When she moved to Senka, âI thought that I wouldnât have a farewell recital or a descent down the Grand Stairs,â said Todoroki. âI want to be myself to the end and welcome the last moments.â
Finally, when the reporters asked âDo you have marriage plans?â, she said jokingly âWell, actually, itâs a non-celebrity, so as for the name, I canât reallyâŚthatâs as far as I thought that one through**âŚIâm taking applications.â The hall was filled with laughter.
* From the time this would have occurred, most likely this was a Rose of Versailles production.
** Todoroki is riffing on the near-obligatory âmarriage questionâ of retirement interviews here, rather than expressing any earnest plan to marry.

A fucking mechanical issue.Â
This is just what Beca needed. She guesses she might have manifested it by thinking thereâs no way this day is getting worse a few times since this morning, when she stepped into dog poop, cracked her phone screen, and got into an argument with her manager, for example.Â
And now, she is freaking stranded at JFK for a yet undetermined amount of time.Â
She plops down in a vacant seat with a heavy sigh and takes her phone out of her coat pocket to check on her social media. The five percent battery level glares at her reproachfully, and she reaches for her large handbag to fish out her charger.Â
âFuck,â she mutters when, after emptying its contents on the seat next to her, her charger is nowhere to be found. âThis is perfect. Abso-fucking-lutely perfect.âÂ
âAre you okay?âÂ
Beca glances up in surprise, her jaw damn near falling out of its hinges when sheâs met with the most vibrant blue eyes sheâs ever seen. Answer the damn question, Beca. You look like a creep. âUm.â Beca blinks, shaking her head. âYes, yeah. I just⌠forgot my phone charger in my hotel room, I guess.âÂ
The woman sitting one seat over to her left winces. âOh, no. What kind of phone is it?âÂ
âAn iPhone 5.â She points a warning finger towards the stranger when she notices her lips curling up slightly. âDonât make fun of me. I know. Iâm a dinosaur.âÂ
The redhead chuckles and unplugs her own phone, handing her charger to Beca a few seconds later. âHere.âÂ
Beca hesitantly takes it, eyeing the other woman. âYou sure you donât need it?âÂ
âIâm at 56%, so Iâll be fine for a bit. We can just switch on and off, it seems like weâre going to be here for a while.âÂ
Beca releases a groan as she tilts her head back. âUgh. This day couldnât get any worse.âÂ
Fuck. She better keep her mouth shut or a snowstorm might hit them next.

Grounded
Pairing: Henry Cavill x Fem!Reader
Prompt:Â
Rating: PG, Fluff
Being grounded in the JFK terminal was not Henryâs ideal way to spend Christmas Eve, yet here he was stranded with the other passengers that found themselves as unlucky as he did. With the roads near blocked and all the hotels full. He and his fellow travelers were forced to stay in the airport for the night. His stomach growled and he scowled when he glanced around to see all the food kioskâs closed for the night. Spotting a vending machine in the corner, he heads toward it to see what he might be able to find.
As heâs perusing the measly selections, he decides on a protein bar and an the small apple that they have left. He slips in the cash, watches the machine fetch his things and bends down to fetch them from the collection bin.
He hears a small groan from behind him and turns to see you, looking over his shoulder at the small overpriced selection of snacks.
âI know itâs quite pathetic isnât it?â he asks, with a chuckle.
You nod and step forward, eyes glancing over the offerings before settling on 2 packages of poptarts. âHey arenât you Superman?â You ask, turning back to him.
       He chuckles, âGuilty.â
âthatâs so cool, Iâm (y/n). Itâs nice to meet you ever under these circumstances,â you murmur, offering him your hand.
He smiles and shakes your outstretched hand, âItâs nice to meet you, please call me Henry.â
You smile. âHenry,â you repeat with a soft smile. âSo where were you headed when we were grounded?â You ask, falling into step next him as you returned to the terminal.
âEh, back home, actually. Iâve been filming in the states for a while now and I was hoping to be home for Christmas to surprise my family but I guess that wonât happen now.â
You chew at the inside of your cheek. âIâm sorry, Iâm sure that it must be very hard to be away from your family at this time of year.â
He nods, âIt is. Uh, what about you?â
âUm, I was headed home from a work trip,â you say, breaking apart your poptart.
âWhat about your family?â he asks, biting into his apple.
You shrug, ââItâs complicated.â
He sighs, âah, forgive me. I donât mean to pry.â
You smile, âitâs okay. No harm done.â
Henry flashes you a brilliant smile and even travel worn, the man is gorgeous. You repress the urge to shiver and instead force yourself to smile back at him.
âSo can I ask you what you were in New York working on?â
He smiles, âI was actually auditioning for a play.â
âoh my god, Superman is going to be on Broadway,â you tease, with a smile.
He shakes is head, ânothing is set in stone, but it would be an interesting change of pace for me.â
You smile, âI bet it will, I mean how could you not get it though? Youâre very talented.â
He blushes, the literal god in front of you blushes. âThank you,â he says, softly.
âItâs true,â you say, smiling at him. âDo you want to know what my favorite thing is that Iâve seen you in?â you ask, feeling your cheeks warm.
He chuckles, âIâm curious now.â He says, leaning back against the seat and kicking his feet up.
âThe Count of Monte Cristo,â you murmur, locking eyes with him.
       He chuckles, âChrist! Really?â
You nod, âItâs been one of my favorite movies since I was, like, 10.â
He runs a hand over his face and laughs, âWhy?â
You shrug, âI like the story and I always thought your character was cute,â you admit.
       He smirks, âOh really?â
You shake your head and cover your face with your hands. âI donât know what possessed me to tell you that.â
He chuckles, âI think itâs sweet.â
You pass the evening in conversation, sharing your thoughts and dreams with this man. It nears midnight and you feel yourself beginning to fade as exhaustion sets in.
âYou doing alright?â he asks as yet another yawn takes hold of you.
You chuckle and rub your eyes. âIâm just getting tired.â
Henry pats the seat next to him, âCome rest your head. Iâve got a movie on my phone if you want to watch it with me.â
You smile and lift yourself out of your seat and place yourself next to him.
âAre you warm enough? I have an extra sweater.â
You smile, âI can do us one better.â You lean forward and fetch a blanket from your backpack and spread it over the two of you.
âAh, so youâve been holding out on me,,â he teases, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and pulling you in.
âI honestly had forgotten about it,â you murmur, bashfully, resting your head gently on his shoulder.
       He chuckles, âSure, sure.â
You smile and rest against him, eyes growing heavy as he starts up one of the lord of the rings movies. âAmazing, choice,â you murmur, sleepily.
âYeah? You like lord of the rings?â he asks, smiling.
You nod sleepily, âItâs one of my favorites.â
âmine too,â he murmurs, lips brushing against your hairline.
You smile softly and tilt back to look up at him, tired eyes admiring the angles and artistry of his face.
He glances down at his watch and turns back to you with a smile. âHappy Christmas, (y/n),â he murmurs.
âHappy Christmas, Henry,â you reply, meeting his blue eyes with yours.
His gaze flicks down to your lips and back up to meet your gaze before he leans in to press a kiss against yours.
Your eyes flutter closed as you bring your hand up to cup his face as he deepens the kiss. Time slows down around you as your lips meld with his. When he parts, he rests his forehead against yours and closes his eyes.
âIâve been wanting to do that for a while now,â he murmurs.
You smile and tilt your face up to kiss him again. âIâm glad that you did.â
He smiles brightly at you again, lighting up your world with one smile and you sigh.
âGuess this wasnât such a bad Christmas was it?â
He shakes his head, âNot at all, darling.â

{you know the meme}
The ficus stares him in the face with a thousand years of dread judgment.
It knows.
âI said I wasnât gonna,â he mutters in its general direction.
Had been a thought, but once it was assured that this was, in fact, a real plantâŚwell, itâs just immensely thoughtless to go pissing on plants. Probably worse if theyâre potted, even if he canât say why that would be, itâs not like unpotted {is that even a termâŚ} ones are capable of getting up and moving either. No, itâs just a bad thing all together, pissing on plants.
But itâs also a bad thing to have to explain to Beth when she gets out of the shower that the police are at the hotel because there may or may not have been an incident involving indecent exposure and-his train of thought temporarily stalls on the tracks at wondering what sort of exposure was decent. Legally. If thereâs indecent, that implies there is the opposite, decent.
âProb'ly strippers.â
Heâs muttered this to the plant again, with a noncommittal shrug, as though the plant may have a better idea it can suggest. If it does, it does not share it with him. But then, he wouldnât share it either if he knew the plant had been intending to pee on him, so itâs acceptable.
He also might be slightly more drunk than usual. Not that things like conversing with plants and wondering about decent vs indecent exposures is irregular for him. Particularly not when alone, and that he is. Save for the plant.
Technically, Beth is here too, but the suite really is rather large, and sheâs in the bathroom. That makes it feel like being in a house when someone else is in another room. Heâs functionally alone.
Well, noâŚno, there is another very active presence, and though it indeed be haunting, it isnât that sort of Presence. Itâs the immense mistake of not realizing he had to pee before Beth left, then making it worse by trying not to fixate on this mistake after she had. He is rather horrible at doing the opposite of fixating on literally anything while trying not to do exactly that, itâs a bit of a promise that he is going to fail spectacularlyâŚand he is.
Additionally, he is intoxicated enough to officially be on Drunk Time, and Drunk Time is like no other expanse of time. It might have been five minutes or two hours or yesterday that she left. He is only certain that this span of time has included having a cigarette, contemplating the plant, contemplating hitting unfortunate human targets below the balcony, talking to the plant, and continuing to drink. Just a little bit. It was obviously necessary, toâŚpass the time.
It hasnât helped to pass the time, only to make the issue more present, and with the plant giving no new ideas, there truly is only one.
So, heâs at the bathroom door, and wondering why the fuck it is that he isnât alright with simply going on a stealth mission here. Really, itâs extremely possible, in his mind and only his mind, that heâd get away with it. AndâŚheâŚjust canât. At least this sort of ridiculous behavior, and the combined honesty and respect for her that tends to drive it, means that he isnât at all lying when he comes tentatively creeping through the steam. Eyes closed, mouth open and going.
âSorry, Beth, swear I ainât lookinâ an not even like, listeninâ close. Just really, serious'ly gonna die if I donât piss âmediately, an not inna plant, talked to the plant, it agrees thatâs not cool.â

Squeaky Clean || -
Presenting a paper to the medical community, and in particular members of the CDC, on infectious diseases suffered by indigent people especially in areas where hurricanes decimate resources, fresh water, and shelter⌠is a rewarding and somewhat terrifying prospect. Beth knows very well how to speak properly in social circles the likes of which she might compare to a feeding frenzy of various shark slews, and academically she has a reputation for being a thoughtful and respected voice for the less fortunate. It is one of the things she takes pride in, actually making a difference where the Admiral only pretends to. He practices a very different kind of medicine, and belongs to a world that Beth has never been comfortable in, doesnât want to be a part of, and refuses at every opportunity. The old man would be utterly appalled that not only had she taken in a 'young wastrelâ which is the politest thing he would say about Anakin, but gave him a job, a stable roof, was determined to see him be better off than his current situation would allow. Or that sheâd drag him along on this trip, booking a single suite for them both. But truth be told, thereâs more to it than appearances would suggest.
She doesnât even know if Anakin himself really understands. Beth hates flying. She had never done very well with heights, something sheâd learned as a kid when she tried practising cliff-diving. The air plane ride to the mainland when she was sixteen had been a nightmare and sheâd been sick the entire ten hour, non-stop flight from O'ahu to JFK airport, in New York. He tried books, he tried singing to her, heâd tried music and in flight movies, he tried medicating her with drinks. Eventually he could do nothing but hold back her hair as she continuously expelled all of her stomach contents, rubbed her back when it was nothing but dry-heaving. Eventually, she simply curled up in her seat and leaned into him, too exhausted to be okay, too terrified to sleep. He rubbed small circles against her back and promised she never had to fly again. And then he ran off to join the Air Force, and jumped out of planes for a living. That was something about her brother that Beth could never understand even if he could have explained it to her. She had sat on the lanai, trying to decide if she was brave enough to chance the Louis Armstrong airport ~ ~ âMSY.â Anakinâs grin had sprawled slowly across his lips and his head had dipped down, though she had been certain it was to watch Bug nap in a sunbeam.
Or to take a chance on one of the familyâs private planes over at Metairie~
~"Metry...on the Big Ass Lake.â She hadnât been sure if that was Anakinâs specific drawl or if sheâd simply been mispronouncing that word the entire time sheâs been here {which, honestly was more likely} because it looked like Met-prairie to her.
But even on the sofa, even with him reading his book ~a dog-eared and margin-notation copy of Ovidâs Metamorphosis~ on the opposite side of it, feet buried under her leg, she hadnât been able to bring herself to book the flight.
Instead, sheâd looked over, a little green around the gills, and in a surprisingly tremulous voice, sheâd asked him if heâd be okay going on a road trip with her. After all, it was only a seven to eight hour drive, including stops to stretch, use the facilities, and food. She added to that the fact that sheâd feel safer driving through that bit of Mississippi and almost diagonally across Alabama just to get there, if he would be willing to escort her.
Thereâd been discussion about what to do with Bug, and what not to do, which largely consisted of Anakin not really wanting to leave him on his lonesome and Beth arranging for the nurses to take turns {and hazard pay} to ensure meal times were kept to their schedule, and their housekeeper to ensure companionship and play time. And of course the discussion he had with Bug which she was politely not privy too, but she would have given anything to actually have heard even snippets of conversation.
And now, a few days later, here they are.
The humidity and heat in Atlanta is very different from that of New Orleans, which in Bethâs mind is more like home, where here itâs...sticky. A thin film of sweat has been clinging to her since their arrival in the wee hours when by all rights it should have been cooler at the very least. Because of the conference, sheâd had to book them a single suite and though sheâd apologise profusely, she didnât think Anakin was very heart-broken about it. The air conditioner in the room had been running and it wasnât so bad when theyâd finally set their bags down.
Beth ordered breakfast from room service, had given Anakin that look, and like the rumoured pirates in her ancestry {sea-wooves, she called them not recognising her mispronunciation} had plundered the full bar. Miniatures were things one gave away to adults come Halloween, and full-size bottles were specifically requested. So it was drinks on the balcony and pastries, fluffy omelettes, and a very sudden urge to sleep.
Sheâd pressed a strawberry and Merlot kiss to his forehead and had only enough grace to fall onto her side of of the king bed, clothes and all. Which didnât really help the situation. She also didnât know how long Anakin had stayed up and what heâd consumed during that time. The moral of the story being she needs this shower. And thereâs enough trust and enough love between them that she doesnât think twice about leaving the door slightly ajar in case he needs the facilities. And maybe she stays in a little too long, letting the near volcanic temperature of the water ease away at her muscles in a haze of tropical scented soap, shampoo, conditioner.
She didnât know that the ficus was a traitor. Or a victim. Or that it would eventually be going home with them.
She finds herself grinning when he makes his apologies and his platitudes. â...âSâfine, really. I trusâ you anâ besides...I promise no have any kine ya nevah seen before. Because weâre âway from home, anâ sleepers...all ovah da place here. Worse dan haole summers back home, worse dan deer tick. Anâ maybe ya plant wiser dan all of dem put togeddah.â She hates that sheâs suddenly become an Awakened psa, a reminder that they have to be on their best behaviour and any magick has to be disguised under the auspices of coincidence.
âStill got an eternity of hot waddah if ya wanna come in anâ grab a shower fâ yaself. But Iâll knife fight ya ovah dis loofah.â
