I’m so personally conflicted about Alysmond like both of them are interesting characters in their own right but the power imbalance and age difference makes me so uncomfortable I wont ever be able to root for them as a couple. And yeah it’s not like GRRM (or maybe HOTD? seeing Aemond’s current portrayal in the show) wants us to like them together (I don’t think GRRM ever cared about ships anyway cuz he’s not that kind of writer lol) but still. And as someone who saw their close friend in a relationship with someone 15 years older than them, Alysmond makes me kind of sick. HOWEVER if they make Alys the witch of Harrenhal that she’s rumored to be? I’m all for an “evil” sorceress (maybe really bewitching him) instead of a grown ass woman warming a boy’s bed (even tho she was told to be his ear prize 😬).
Sorry for these ramblings but that what I love about GRRM’s writing! Basically all of his characters are complex individuals (and all of F&B is written by people who don’t really know the truth which makes this more complicated), so I just hope HOTD writers don’t screw anything up more than they already did in S1 🤞🏻
im going to answer this is good faith you didn't realize this probably was not the ask to send someone whose blog makes it clear I am an alysmond enjoyer. in the future if you want to talk about why you don't like alysmond please make your own post. not trying to be rude but I don't want to open Tumblr and read an ask about someone not liking a dynamic I enjoy.
but I will clarify a few things.
on one hand, I do not think any pairing in hotd (or GRRM's works) is meant to be romantic, especially in hotd. alysmond is not the first unhealthy dynamic nor is it the last in the book and show. these characters are all morally grey and complex, which makes it very interesting character wise and with ships.
fire and blood is written as a history book and not even as a credible source so honestly, I like a lot of the changes they've made so far. they didn't make aemond a psychopath in the show, giving him complexities and more depth, which I loved. I hope they do the same for alys. point is, we don't know how alysmond will look dynamic wise but if s1 is anything to go off of I think we will get a more complex and interesting dynamic.
the age thing is murky because Aemond is 19 when the war starts and 20 when he dies in fire and blood, but in the show Ewan Mitchell is about 25 and no one can say how old he is. I won't bother arguing that because Ewan looks a lot older than the 19 years Aemond is meant to be in ep10. Gayle is 33 I believe, so the age difference between them will look a lot smaller than it is in the book. but like the show different changed is Alicent and Rhaenyra's ages and dynamics, I would not be upset if they did change this dynamic of Alys and Aemond a little.
like other people who enjoy alysmond, I like this ship not for super romantic purposes (sure, I enjoy the fanart and cannot wait to see them on screen), but because they are just interesting characters. it is the same reason I find helaegon intriguing, but don't ship them romantically. I think looking for romantic pairings without fault, canon or otherwise, in hotd will lead to conflicts. these are not real people, they are fictional characters who were not written to be moral characters without fault.
there is lots more I could add but im tired and going to leave it at that.

Yeah, guys.... i agree. They're set on destroying DAEMYRA and DAEMON as a character and they're not even trying to pretend they like them/him. They've been heard saying they don't understand the Daemon 'hype', they don't understand why he's popular or being called hubby/daddy, and therefore they'll try to prove us wrong writing their own bullshit only so that they can tell us they were right and 'told you so'. Hess and Condal are HotD's curse, true disaster... They're just destrying HotD cuz they can. Bye bye, common sense, bye, GRRM's vision. Hess and Condal ignore book reality, they ignore GRRM's vision, they are writing their very own fanfic- making Daemon choke Rhaenyra, Aemond accidentally kill Luce, Alicent and Rhaenyra being platonically in love, Daemon being in love with Viserys, Rhaenyra viewing Otto as a father figure in ep10 - i mean, at this point it's almost a PARODY :D
What good can we expect from these clowns???
I have no hopes at this point. Srsly.
I will not watch S2. For me S1 ep1-ep8 exist and that's it. I'll rather read GRRM's books or HotD fanfics cuz at this point they're all way more logical than Hess and Condal's bullshit
Audition tape for Alys Rivers where she’s talking to Daemon, taunting him, questioning his loyalty to Rhaenyra: “Perhaps you want to prove yourself to her.” — @VSVNYA on Twitter
I will not watch season 2 because these producers/writers/showrunners screwed up right from the start. I mean, why would they pitch the idea of Alicent and Rhaenyra being best friends? 🤷🏻♀️
Also, why would Daemon be talking to Alys? Did they interact in the book? If not, then, the producers are desperate for Daemon to cheat on Rhaenyra with literally anyone.
#daemyra#daemyra s2#daemyra vs. showrunners#hotd vs. showrunners#daemon vs. showrunners#the disaster that will be s2 with hess and condal#the horrors i will never watch#poor Matt - i feel so sorry for him for having to be a part of the parody that is to unfold

This is not related to Aemond but I just want to say that in episode 10
I hated Daemon
Him grabbing Rhaenyra by the throat, not supporting her even though she just lost a child and a father, trying to take over as if it is his right and bringing up his ambitions about sitting in the iron throne, among others, are the reasons that just made me dislike him so much.
Tbh I appreciated his character before (but wasn't really a fan, also knowing some facts about the future) but now the guy has become plain abnoxious.
Not cool dude...

Thinking about HOTD's future seasons and the Dance of the Dragons...
OK. So GRRM said he thinks they need 4 seasons (40 episodes) to properly tell the story of the Dance. Last I heard, "while nothing is carved in stone, the current Targaryen storyline is currently plotted to run only about three or four seasons" -- that is, they didn't know at the time how many seasons HBO will grant them. Hopefully it's four; the way they were renewed for a second season within the first week of broadcast, and that each episode had such high viewership and gained viewers each week, would make it more probable that HBO would be willing to invest the money.
Anyway, here's the major events of the Dance of the Dragons and how I think they could line up with each season (under the cut for major spoilers, all the spoilers in the world):
So. Season 2 could end with the the Battle of Rook's Rest... or the Battle of the Gullet. It really depends on if they want to have the ending trauma episode Rhaenys's death or Jace's… either way the whole season should involve a major build up for both characters. Jace in particular will be in the Vale and the North for a while at the start of the season before returning home, so bookending with his ending could work well on a character arc level.
On the other hand, to have two ep10s with the death of one of Rhaenyra's sons? It might be too on the nose. But also I can't see the Battle of the Gullet as anything but an enormous setpiece -- big ocean battle, little Aegon riding his dragon for the first (and last) time, dragonseeds firing on the ships, Myrish archers firing back, Vermax getting pulled down by a grapnel, Driftmark attacked, High Tide burned... that's a Battle of the Blackwater -level kind of episode. Maybe it could be S3 ep 2 or 5? But I really can't help but feel it's an ep9 or 10 kind of thing. But then, so's Rook's Rest, with a 2-on-1 dragon battle and all... 🤔
But either way, I'm pretty damn sure they won't go as far as the Fall of King's Landing as a season 2 ender. Only if they're only given 3 seasons... and ugh, the time compression involved there, it would make S1's timejumps look like amateur hour, so let's pray not.
Assuming 4 seasons, if I were doing it, I'd put the Sowing of the Seeds mid s2 followed shortly by Rook's Rest, end S2 with the Gullet (major loss for Blacks, Jace dies), and end S3 with the Butcher's Ball (major loss for Greens, Criston dies). That would likely put the Fall of KL in mid-S3, a good audience-grabber episode, lots of dragons. And then the episode after, so many executions! Tyland gets tortured! (paging @mylestoyne) Probably what happened to Maelor... happens. 😭 But I definitely wouldn't want to end s3 with the Gods Eye, as HBO will need Daemon and Aemond to carry into the last season... can you imagine the S4 trailer? Oh.
Anyway, the Gods Eye and the KL riots happen so close to each other, and they both definitely are last season material. So, I'd make S4 start with First Tumbleton and the Two Betrayers -- that would lead to Rhaenyra turning on the rest of the dragonseeds -- which is what makes Corlys defect and also is what makes Daemon decide to just go mano-a-mano with Aemond -- and that leads to her downfall and the riots and escape back to Dragonstone etc. This would also give a core arc to the first part of S4 of Addam needing to prove his loyalty, etc, as well as the arc of Ulf and Hugh turning traitor at the beginning but getting theirs by halfway/75% through the season at Second Tumbleton. (Keeping these secondary character plots within one season would be ideal, as watchers forget their investment during hiatuses.)
But I would for sure move Rhaenyra's final scene to after Second Tumbleton for irony purposes (she doesn't know that the tide is turning in her favor, but it's too late for her anyway), as well as prioritizing emotional investment. Not to mention the deaths of the dragons in 2T would lead to showing Sunfyre's horrifying state at Dragonstone.
And again, if it were my choice, the last 2 or 3 episodes would have Aegon II's brief reign and murder, Aegon III's crowning, and the Hour of the Wolf. (Even more executions!) If they want to end downbeat, the last scene could be a focus of little Aegon all alone on the Iron Throne. But if upbeat (my ideal scenario) then there will be a last episode after the Hour of the Wolf with a swift pass through Corlys's death from old age, the Regents doing their thing, and the Winter Fever (Alicent's & Tyland's deaths)... and finally end with Alyn bringing Viserys home to the embrace of his family. (Like @naomimakesart's perfect artwork.)
Or at least, I'd include the Winter Fever in the final episode, since I'd like to keep Alicent's death the same (mourning her lost children and her lost innocent childhood (and in HOTD, her love of Rhaenyra)), and also include it in the show. But I don't know if they'll do that. 🤷♀️
But then who knows how many of these battles they'll keep in this adaptation, or if they'll keep them in order at all. Still, I hope you all enjoyed my fantasy booking anyway!
