Kindergarten!ateez

Pairing: kindergarten teacher!Y/N x Seonghwa Word count: around 2k  Genre: PURE FLUFF (i busted uwu all over the place while writing it, especially with Yeosang, asdfjasdlf I’m still not over it) A/N: All the members are kindergarteners except for Seonghwa, who’s a good friend of yours. I imagined that the members were around 4-6 years old and Seonghwa 23-24 years old. I know it’s long but I got carried away... 

Doing crafts with children could become chaotic if you were only one teacher to supervise everything. That was your current situation since your co-worker just gave you a call since she needed to stay home to take care of her sick daughter. 

Nothing had started that you were already out of your mind. You had called your mom and another friend to ask them to help you, but both were unavailable. Your only last hope was Seonghwa, one of your closest friends, but you doubted that he’d be free at this time of the year. “Hello?” You heard a low voice on the other side of the phone, “hi, it’s Y/N!” you happily said, relieved that your friend picked up. “Oh hi Y/N! Are you okay, you sound stressed.” “I’m okay but not really. Are you free right now?” “Uhm, I’m free in 10 minutes. Why?” “To make it quick, I’m in trouble. I’m making Easter crafts with the children and it’s hard for me to keep an eye on everything, they need to be careful with scissors and the hot glue. You’re my last hope Seonghwa, do you think you could come and help me?” You sounded desperate but you couldn’t care, your friend would probably understand your struggle. “Give me 15 minutes and I’ll be there.” “You’re my lifesaver, thank you so so much.”

15 minutes later, as promised, Seonghwa appeared in the school playground with two bags in his hand. You rushed outside to welcome him and hug him. “Thank you so much, you don’t realise how helpless I felt.” “It’s okay Y/N, it’s nothing. Let’s get outside, you’ll catch a cold only wearing your shirt. The air is still quite chilly.”

The children excitedly welcomed Seonghwa when you introduced him to them. Some were shy when he bent to shake their tiny extended hands, especially a boy that hid behind you as soon as Seonghwa approached him. You could see on your friend’s face that he was a bit sad, so you picked up the boy and neared your friend. “Yeosang, Seonghwa is very kind, you know? He’s here to help me with the crafts we’re going to make together. He’s one of my friends, you don’t need to worry.” You whispered to him but he still looked away from the young man. Seonghwa shrugged and smiled when the little boy ran to his friends as soon as you put him down. You smiled at your friend but it quickly faded. “Mingi, no!! Do not touch that, you’re going to burn yourself!” The young boy was near the hot glue gun, his finger dangerously hovering near the tip of the gun. He pulled his finger back as soon as he heard your voice. He looked at the ground, embarrassed to have been caught red-handed. “I’m taking care of it Y/N, alright? Take care of the scissors and punches, we’ll be fine like that.” Seonghwa put a reassuring hand on your shoulder, a friendly smile decorating his lips. You nodded and took Mingi’s hand to guide him towards the scissors. You helped the children cut the paper when they were struggling, healed a few paper cuts and gave a better pair to the left-handed children that were trying to use right-handed scissors. 

“Teacher, look!” “Yeah Teacher, look at what we’ve done!” Two small voices appeared in front of you, two nearly identical red hearts decorated with what seemed to be Easter eggs. “San, Wooyoung, it’s beautiful! Now go to Seonghwa to glue it with your other hearts!” The two children both eagerly nodded and smiled, a small dimple appearing on San’s face. They ran towards your friend, who seemed to get along with every child. You felt a slight tug on your sleeve when Yeosang showed you his finished artwork with a shy smile. “Yeosang, it’s wonderful!” You ruffled his hair as his ears turned red and saw that he was squeezing his work very hard as if it wasn’t glued. “Is it glued, Yeosang?” you beamed at him when he nodded. “You went to Seonghwa alone?” you were shocked that not too long ago, he was terrified to even look at your friend. “He, he told me to, to squeeze it tightly, like this.” Yeosang always stumbled on his words when he dared to open his mouth and you found him adorable. “I’m proud of you Yeosang! Now press it tightly as Seonghwa told you to!” He nodded again, sitting down next to you, holding the papers close with his small hands. As all the kids were done with the cutting and punching holes in their artworks, you began to clean up while keeping an eye on your friend and the kindergarteners. You called Yunho, Jongho and Hongjoong over, asking them to help you cut strings to hang the crafts across the classroom. Yunho and Hongjoong were pretty comfortable doing it but you paid more attention to Jongho since he was one of the youngest children you had in this class. They had set up a mechanism: Yunho was holding the string straight while Hongjoong cuts it, passing it to Jongho, who passed you the string with his small hands, tip-toeing to reach your hand.

From the corner of your eye, you could see Wooyoung and his partner in crime, San, curiously wandering around the bags Seonghwa had brought here. You playfully frowned at them and shook your forefinger in the air, telling them to be careful about their foolishness. They giggled and ran back to observing Seonghwa, who was sticking the last artworks together. You felt a wave of relief washing over you as you saw your friend gladly helping the children. You were a bit scared that he was doing it only because you had asked him to, but he seemed to enjoy it. You had always wondered how Seonghwa was with children and let’s be honest here, you were surprised and touched at how caring and thoughtful he was with them. When Jongho passed you the last string with the last artwork hanging, all the children and Seonghwa applauded. “Great job, kids!” your friend said. “To reward you for your hard work and your great behaviour, I bought something for you.” The children cheered when Seonghwa pulled out a box of each bag with two bottles of orange juice and laid them on the table. They all huddled around and stared in surprise when he opened the lids, revealing homemade cookies to their shining eyes. “Your teacher invited me the other night and we made cookies together. They are all yours now. And, I also bought small Easter eggs!” Seonghwa wriggled a bag filled with small decorated chocolate Easter eggs. “Thank you, Teacher!! Thank you, Seonghwa!!” All the kids cheered again, turning to Seonghwa and then you. You smiled at them, telling them not to eat too much. You went to grab plastic cups as your friend opened the bottles, giving a child a cookie, a chocolate egg and a cup of juice. You all sat down in a circle and talked with the children for a while. Not long later, parents began to come to pick up their child for lunch and you sat down on the carpeted floor, Seonghwa joining you in the following second. “It’s tiring to work with children, they have too much energy. I don’t know how you do this every single day.” “That’s what I chose to do, you know. I love to make children happy, it makes me feel important and great.” “Yeah, they looked so cute once I glued their craft together. It warmed my heart, but I cannot see myself doing this every single day.” “It was tough the first few days but then you get used to it.” You stared at each other and smiled, cheeks heating up when he caught your hand. “Wanna grab lunch together? I’m starving.” He asked, your hand still in his. “Sure. Let me grab my purse and coat.”

Some parents stayed behind to let the children play and talk together. You noticed San, Mingi and another child running around, screaming. San and Mingi stopped in their tracks when they saw both of you walking together, hands still linked. The dimpled boy mischievously smiled and started screaming. “Mingi!! Look! Teacher and Seonghwa are dating!” You suddenly felt very hot, trying to get out of Seonghwa’s hold, but he kept your hand in his, a smirk decorating his face. You tried to shush your kindergartners but it was no use. “Do you think they kissed while making cookies last night?” Mingi giggled at his suggestion, “Maybe they did! Oh my god, Teacher is in love.” Seonghwa was now laughing while you dragged him towards his car. He finally lets go of your hand as you ran to the passenger seat, waiting for him to unlock the car. 

You sat in the car and slammed the door, looking away from Seonghwa. Giggling, he tried to push a strand of hair behind your ear but you pushed him away. “Come on, Y/N, they are kids. You’re allowed to have a romantic life outside your job.” “You don’t understand! San is a little tease! When they’ll come back this afternoon he’ll never let me live! Why did you not let go of my hand when I wanted to?” “Y/N, he’s 5 years old, you’re like his second mom to him, he’s happy for you.” “Yeah, yeah, whatever, let’s go eat.” “Put your seatbelt on, then.” “No.” Seonghwa sighed and leant towards you, startling you a bit with his closeness. He caught the seatbelt on your right and slid it across your body, fastening it swiftly. “Just because you work with children doesn’t mean that you need to act like one,” he mumbled, earning a scoff and a slap on the arm from you. “I was thinking about paying your lunch to thank you but now it’s in your dreams.” you sighed as he started the car. “You can always thank me in another way.” He answered while adjusting the car mirrors. “Oh yeah, you want me to invite you over again to make cookies and when I bring them to the kids they’ll ask me if we made them together?” “No, no,” he said, laughing, “there’s an easier way.” “Tell me then.” You exasperatedly sighed. “Kiss me.” You whipped your head to him, eyes going wide. It was his turn to be shy, red decorating his neck and ears. You chuckled, looking towards the school, not moving an inch. You didn’t know that he had this kind of feelings towards you, you had always thought of him as a friend and that’s it. However, for the past few weeks, when you were telling him stories that happened during work when you sometimes shared dinner, he carefully paid attention to every single detail, asking questions about anything related to you and your work. You also noticed that he was smiling more when he was with you, always taking care of you when you needed it, he was always there for you. He was right, you were allowed to have a romantic life outside of work, and why not with him?

Seonghwa took your silence as your way of rejecting him, he cleared his throat to break the silence. When he was about to reverse the car, you grabbed the back of his neck and pressed your lips against his. It took him about two seconds to realise what was happening and he started to kiss you back. He tugged on his seatbelt to get closer to you and deepened the kiss, lips moving in sync. When you pulled away, Seonghwa pressed his forehead against yours, breathing heavily. You closed your eyes and enjoyed the moment, reaching for his hand. He kissed it and linked your lips one last time before actually reversing the car. "I wanted to do that for a long time," he stated, smiling at you. "You told me about having a romantic life..." "Can I be the reason for it?" "Please." You smiled and giggled as he winked at you.
