Summary

Mysteries are always enshrined in shadows, often never seeing the light no matter how much you try to shine into it. Oftentimes, the mysteries tend to take prisoners with them, whether physically or mentally–or even both. Josie and her Circle are tasked to investigate the disappearance of another Circle after they cut off all forms of contact with Candela. She figures this will be like all the other assignments she's been on, steadfast and quick–unfortunately, she is wrong.

i think i am not going to split any chapters into two or more, mostly because I want to keep one "session" as one whole chapter, which unfortunately means much longer chapters and mayhaps 9k+ words

Summary of ideas:

Hope and Josie are from different Candela circles but are brought together to form a new circle (with a few others) to go on an assignment to figure out why there has been a leak in magick, and to deal with whoever or whatever is responsible for it.

Josie and her circle are tasked with hunting down Hope–someone who has been giving Candela Obscura trouble for as long as they can remember. They encounter Hope but things do not go well as most of Josie’s circle end up incapacitated when trying to subdue Hope.

Hope and Josie are from different Candela circles. Josie’s circle is tasked with investigating what happened to Hope’s circle after an assignment they were on goes wrong. Josie finds Hope–the sole survivor of her circle, and discovers that Hope killed the others.

Assignment #51118: The Beast Within

Josie cycles through her thoughts. She makes sure that she is going to be ready for whatever is going to come. Double checks that she is mentally and emotionally prepared for whatever horrors will await. But then her thoughts of preparedness fade into the background and she thinks about the members of the other Circle. A face flashes in her head and Josie reacts so violently that she startles the rest of her friends.

This chapter is a beast, and I mean that in both the spoopy sense and that it's around 14k words total.

Assignment number #102518: A Struggle At The Crossroads

“We have gotten other Circles to help with tracking down Hope,” Emma starts. “Freya has also offered her assistance to find her as well as she believed it is still her fault. She's currently out scouring The Endless Descent with a few others from her family.  They've been down there ever since the incident at the Hospital.” Emma and Josie lock eyes.

Looks like ideas #2 and #3 are tied!

I'm not going to do another poll to pick between the two because I think I can find a way to incorporate both ideas into this story. And with how I set up the two ideas, I think it'll work pretty well! It's now just about how to execute it in a way that I have envisioned it because Candela Obscura is a horror ttrpg game and I have zero experience in writing horror but would love to play my hand at writing it because it'll be a nice skill to have for other purposes.

So this Hosie Candela Obscura AU is going to have a lot of lore and worldbuilding from Candela Obscura because why not and also because I said so. I've already began planning a little bit of the plot as well as who the playing characters will be aside from Hope and Josie. I'm also figuring out a little bit of backstory for each character and also planning out a prologue chapter just to set the stage for the fic and so I can have it posted on my ao3 for easy access.

I'm pretty excited about this AU and I hope people will look forward to the spoopy scary. And like, I know I have a whole bunch of other Hosie fics in reserve, but also: hyperfixation will do what hyperfixation will do lol

you know what would be an interesting Hosie AU?

Candela Obscura Hosie AU (Candela Obscura is a ttrpg that's pretty much low-magic and high horror. like eldritchy type horror. it's a fun game and honestly I have Candela brain rot rn so thus this AU is born--also the mechanics of this game is you and players create a circle, which is like a secret organization that are given assignments to investigate some spoopy shit)

where maybe they both run in different Candela circles and somehow encounter each other on a mission? Maybe something happened to Josie's Circle so Hope and her Circle have to go find out what happened and save them? I think Josie being a Doctor would be really nice, and Hope maybe be either a Soldier, Occultist, or even Magician--or maybe a little of each? Though I'm leaning a bit more toward Hope being an Occultist and/or Magician--just a way to still bring in Hope's link to the supernatural world from TVDU. I did also contemplate Josie being a Magician as well, but I think Doctor might be a better fit (or, again, a little mix of Magician and Doctor would also be pretty good too and would still keep that tie into her Siphoner stuff from TVDU).

Or maybe Hope is the person that Candela wants to track down because she's been causing a lot of problems around New Faire (if we were to bring in NH!Hope or even the version of Hope in one of the AU worlds from that one episode with Lizzie where she wished the Salvatore school didn't exist), so Josie's Circle is tasked to locating Hope and neutralizing her. But things go awry really quickly when they find Hope, like she almost nearly kills everyone in Josie's Circle. I think for this version, Josie being a Doctor would suit her very well still. Maybe Hope sees Josie trying to tend to her friend's/Circle mate's wounds and realizes she is useful and like idk kidnaps her or something? Either that or Hope leaves Josie and her Circle, which prompts Josie to want to go after her once she helps and gets help for her friends.

Idk, this AU isn't quite thought out as much because I'm just too excited about mayhaps being able to play Candela Obscura lol. (Are there any Candela Obscura/Critical Role Hosies out there 👀 let's nerd out together!)

Rika's Hosie Fics Priority Update List

I'm purely writing this post out so I don't have to keep repeating myself in the author's notes or replies to comments about why certain fics haven't been updated or when they'll be updated again.

I'm also not writing this post because I'm not grateful for all the support and love from Hosies on my fics--I'm incredibly grateful and appreciative to the Hosies out there who read and love my silly little stories, but it's just that...

I'm tired. I'm not a ""content creator"" or a robot. I'm just a dork writing fanfic for fun because it's been a hobby of mine since I was thirteen. And sometimes things happen that make me not want to update a fic anymore, and I just can't do anything about that sadly. And I'm truly sorry that some of my fics have not been updated in a while as well, there's nothing more I'd love to do than to update some of them because of the initial passion and excitement for them, but I can't bring myself to do that, not now anyway, so I hope this clears up a few things, no matter how vague.

Anyway, my fic priority update list will have 3 categories, High Priority, Mid Priority, and Low Priority. High being I have a consistent update for it, and low being a mystery because I honestly can't look at those fics without wanting to throw a pillow at the wall. Mid is just very sporadic updates whenever I see fit or whatever.
