The Y Malom (Literally, Cyan Bigtooth) is a species on Ternual, found primarily along a coastal plain. A middlingly sized mesocarnivore, that gets by on ambush predation and scavenging. On Ternual, this completely independent evolutionary tree has converged on something familiarly canine-like. At first look.

As you can see, their lower jaws can split slightly. They're not actually all that powerful though, since they mostly bite down with their top jaw, as their spine is on the bottom! Basically, they open their mouth like those bins with the pedal, you know the ones. This is honestly really inconvenient for hunting, but they're stuck with it! This is one reason for the enormous teeth; its imperative that if they bite something, they really, really bite it. In combination with the slight opening of their lower jaw, they can open their mouth reeaaally wide.

Their nose probably looks fairly typical at first glance, but its actually a single nostril on the top jaw, and two pseudo nostrils on the bottom jaws. (Internally, they join together, only a bit of flesh separates them, so they can still inhale while the jaws are out) They branch out to the eyes as their sensory lines, which are repurposed lateral lines. They keep the eyes and noses moist, detect air pressure, balance, and enhance the senses, particularly smell and chemical detection.

Along the inner mouth, parallel to the lines, are the 'teeth'. Comparatively its more like a beak, with tooth-like serrations. It grows out of the bone, coated in a hard sheath. While the inner part stops growing, the sheath is shed periodically and regrows. As such, they remain extremely sharp, and are much less prone to infection and decay.

Notice that its eyes are concave, shaped like a bowl, rather than a sphere. (It still has a convex cornea though, that covers it entirely, and is much tougher) I can't really speak on the effectiveness of it, but it is an ancestral trait; its stuck with it. It can actually rotate them slightly, but not much. Like birds, it alters its visual range more so by moving its neck. It probably stabilises its head like one too!

Speaking of, on its neck is a cobra-like frill. The inside of it is lined with glands, which collect energy from the surroundings, and store it. This energy is specifically ice/cold energy, which it can release through its teeth or claws (mostly teeth) for a freezing bite. If the fangs weren't enough to keep prey down, injecting the energy into somethings' muscles would almost certainly make it unable to move.

Its neck is also pretty flexible. However, since the spine is on the bottom, its range of motion is sort of flipped, being able to swing its neck very far backwards, but not as much forwards. It would struggle to look in between its legs, but would comfortably curl its neck onto its 'back' to rest!

Said legs as you can see are pretty odd looking. Anatomically there's not actually much to say here; I see no reason they'd function any different from our legs! They have a different range of motion, and probably a more horse-like gait, on account of the long 'wrists'.

They have 3 toes, which are symmetrical. Underneath the skin however are probably vestigial extra toes, from its ancestors, who had a toe on each joint. You will see what I mean in my other creatures someday. :]

Their colouring probably seems very out there, but in its natural environment, it blends in perfectly. It has countershading on its underside and feet, to blend in the shadows and the lighter soil, while the varied pinks blend into equally pink foliage. The white spots on its back are also to blend in, as dotted throughout its natural habitat are round white 'flowers', sort of like puffball mushrooms.

Its tail is split, as you can see. Actually technically its entire spine is, but the two halves are long fused. Only the tip, which house the ears, remain separated. There's not much to say here, they're just ears! They're derived from a tail fin, and function much the same as ours, aside from the odd location. Their tail is very flexible, so it can turn in any direction to listen.

To finish, I think you'd love to hear that it reproduces entirely with its mouth. As its oceanic ancestors were mouthbrooders, it evolved to do much the same on land. Aside from the location, they aren't too inventive. Lots of posturing and displaying, fluid exchanging, and in a few months, a moderately developed puppy gets vomited out. They aren't parental much, but the pre-adults live in the forest rather than the open plains, to avoid competition and make use of different niches. Oh, the same goes for digestion. Food in... Food out. Probably why the split jaw stays around, opening it makes things much less messy.

Here I'm beating the corpse of a horse, but I do find ODD how no one in MHA is even interested in understanding their own quirk bar the basic of basic.

Granted some powers are so simplist that you dont need to waste too much time. Like, Mirko's power doesnt need to be heavily analyzed in the story. She has super strenght and it is ok.

But others? No. I want some explanation, especially and Shig's case. Decay is so powerful (and I do have a thought about afo sabotaging shig in a way. "If he cant know how to use his quirk, better for me" but is a sentiment Hori never dwell well enough bc you know, my abuser academy) but no one has any plan or idea of this quirk.

We have tecnhology to make a clothe to Mirio(not for Toohru of course) why not developed smth it cant be decayed?

And now it makes me back to Izu. Our poor mc. He has a powerful quirk and 0 thought about this. Like he was quirkless and now has the power of a god(ignoring the bone crushing thing) and we get 0 introspection. And Izu never analysed his quirk.

I mean, maybe he did as he handles well...but to me it was more of a gamble than anything. No one helped him, Izu doesnt comments about his own quirk ...

And the users doesnt even offer some help...(not bashing them, maybe the second but bc he is BK 3.0)

Hori loves to kill any potential in his story. Its quiete fascinating, its like seeing a captain purposely sinking his own ship for no reason.

I think I've mentioned before how odd I find this that not more people are like early story Izuku - eagerly analysing their own and others abilities to explore what they can secretly do.

Even powers that seem simple for example Miriko's rabbit that you mentioned - I've looked this up recently for a fic I'm planning on writing and she doesn't just have super strength* and speed* she has:

Enhanced flexibility*

Enhanced hearing

High pain tolerance*

Animalistically high intuition*

All of these things would be awesome to explore more. Particularly as with her broad array of abilities (the ones I've placed a * by actually are similar to some of the abilities given to Izuku by OFA or high pain tolerance which he had built up through excessive exposure to an explosively abusive BKG growing up) she could have been an excellent mentor to Izuku. She also could have helped Izuku gain confidence by Hori wastes all this potential by turning her into... A stick for his gore porn fetish it seems...

As for the technology to do with quirks and how unequal it seems that could have also been explored narratively. With Shig it's easy to see that as AFO not wanting him to know too much about what he can do and keep him under control.

But why can't Momo and Hagakure have a costume that works with them if Mirio can? It would be interesting if that was sexism, HPSC corruption, the over sexualisation and celebrity nature of heroes but Hori... gave us all this set up then nothing.

To conclude, Izuku over time has been whittled away at - things like his analysis - which I actually enjoyed, vanished. Part of me thinks this is due to Hori's laziness and lack of being bothered to think through every quirk of the people he puts later into the story like Nejire (what happens if she overuses her quirk? Can she die from it?)

But Izuku's lack of analysis into OFA, is that Hori literally can't be bothered so is just shoving out content at this point, seems in universe like he doesn't feel like he deserves to, this doesn't feel like his quirk, it feels like All Mights and Izuku could feel unworthy of analysing it.

The Northern Ireland protocol is the last outpost of the once mighty manufacturing empire that produced, in industrial quantities, self-pitying narratives of Britons oppressed by Brussels. Now, perhaps, that assembly line has finally juddered to a halt.

The paradox of the Brexit project for its own advocates is that its very success has cut off the pipeline of complaint that fed their teeming springs of outrage. The protocol was the last excuse for throwing the old shapes, the one remaining arena in which the grand game of Euro-bashing could be played. It is not surprising that there are those – Boris Johnson, much of the European Research Group (ERG), part of the Democratic Unionist party – who can’t bear to part with it.

The most obvious thing about the deal announced at Windsor on Monday is that it shows that there was always a deal to be done. As far back as October 2021, the EU formally accepted that the way the protocol was being implemented had to be changed. It made no sense for goods destined to stay in Northern Ireland to be subjected to the same checks as those that were going on to the Republic and hence entering the EU.

Pretty much everything that has now been agreed was there to be negotiated two years ago: the sharing of advance data on exports, red and green lanes, flexibility on VAT and state aid rules, an enhanced role for the assembly in Belfast in scrutinising new single market regulations. All that was ever required was normal diplomacy at the high level and nerds lower down to do the nuts-and-bolts stuff.

So why was this not done? Why was this row allowed to become a standoff that paralysed politics in Northern Ireland, when everyone knows from bitter experience that its political vacuums are filled by malign forces?

First, because of the inability of the Brexit ultras to wean themselves off the “Those Eurocrats don’t like it up ’em” mode of international relations. The complete failure of bluster and posturing in the negotiation of the overall withdrawal agreement taught them nothing. They remained convinced that the way to get foreigners to do what you want is to shout louder.

Hence Boris Johnson’s idiotic Northern Ireland protocol bill. It said, in essence: scrap the protocol that Johnson himself begged you for or the UK will start a trade war with the EU, alienate the US, override its own most basic democratic procedures and declare its contempt for international law even while attacking Vladimir Putin for the same sin. This was never going to work, but it gave the zealots the thrill of one more excursion to the cliffs at Dover to shake their fists at the continent.

There was, though, an even more profound reason to avoid realistic negotiations on the protocol. The miasma of craziness that occludes this whole terrain emanates from the inconvenient truth that the protocol is, in horse-breeding parlance, by Johnson, out of the DUP. It was the DUP that made it inevitable by helping to bring down Theresa May, whose “backstop” agreement would have prevented the need for any controls on goods crossing the Irish Sea. And it was Johnson who, with his usual mastery of cynical opportunism, double-crossed the DUP, created the protocol, and used it to win an election.

But all of this had to be denied. The Frankensteins had to disown their monster. And the way to do that was to indulge in the fantasy that what they had done could somehow be undone. This mirage was conjured from two impossible demands: that the protocol be scrapped and that the European court of justice should cease to be the final arbiter of EU law as it applied to Northern Ireland’s operation of the single market. The beauty of these demands, for those who wished to drown the whole story in obfuscation and amnesia, was that they were so fantastical. They pushed the reality of what Johnson and the DUP had achieved – a serious weakening of the union – into a parallel universe of high dudgeon and glorious defiance.

Rishi Sunak deserves credit for rejoining the reality-based community. The relative speed with which the deal has been done shows the benefits of trying to function like a normal government and seek mutually beneficial solutions to common problems. But part of the reality he has faced is that one part of the UK – Northern Ireland – has a very different kind of Brexit to all the others. Agreeing to make the protocol work is accepting the immutable fact that a hard Brexit means that Northern Ireland will become ever more a place apart within the UK.

That’s very difficult for the DUP to accept and all the more so because it is to a very large extent its own doing. It is hard to think of a worse strategic error by any political party in these islands in modern times than the defenders of the union doing so much to undermine it. It is tough to come to terms with this outcome and reasonable to give the DUP time to adjust to the fact that it has been fighting, not a losing battle, but a battle that was irretrievably lost when it put its fate in the hands of Johnson.

Yet what alternative does it have? The deal is a very good one for Northern Ireland, most of whose people will have little patience with a rearguard action against it. Sunak has called the bluff of the DUP’s allies in the ERG and their hand is in fact very weak – not least because, in the end, few people in Britain care very much about the protocol. The prospect of a Labour government will further diminish the DUP’s influence at Westminster.

The only place it can exercise power is in Belfast. The protocol deal, with its “Stormont brake” on new EU regulations, gives the assembly real powers to block EU regulations – but only if there is an assembly in the first place. There are a thousand other reasons why the DUP should fulfil its responsibilities and allow Northern Ireland’s political institutions to get back to work – but that has to be, from its own point of view, the most compelling.

Exporting Brexit grievances to Belfast was always much madder and more pernicious than sending coals to Newcastle. Northern Ireland has its own superabundant supply, flowing through both green and orange lanes. The heedless exploitation of that trade has been one of the ugliest aspects of the Brexit debacle. Now that the last drops of performative affront have been squeezed out of this tawdry drama, perhaps Britain and Ireland can get back to the slow and undramatic business of reconciliation.
